Summary
It strikes Iruka then that in depriving Naruto of the knowledge of his parents' identities, the village did Naruto a grave injustice. And did the Yondaime and Kushina-san a great disservice.
Iruka has never thought twice about what it must be like for Naruto who doesn’t know anything about the identity of his parents save for the last name he carries. But now, in his apartment, when Naruto shyly asks if there is something he can do to honor them, the way Iruka does his, it really hits him that Naruto is a lonely child who has been... left behind by the village. No, not left behind, but...neglected by them.
Iruka can never imagine going a day without lighting the incense in front of his parents’ photo and bowing to their photo in the morning.
He can’t imagine how Naruto must feel to be deprived of such a thing.
“I think you don’t have to worry about your parents Naruto.” He whispers. “But, if you want, we can see if we can make a little memorial for them so that you can honor them too.”
And as he says it, Iruka realizes that he means it. He will somehow find a way to give Naruto this small thing when so much has been taken from him.

Summary
Sakura knew that Tsunade trusted her, would have felt it was unnecessary to reiterate to Sakura that war was harsh, and Sakura needed to be prepared mentally and emotionally for what lay ahead. But, nothing she had ever done or prepared for in Konoha could have helped her here. Not when her hands, her actions, were deciding which shinobi to save and which to sentence to death.
Sakura had lost patients before, knew when a patient was beyond saving, and she had to stop. But, here, on the battlefield, as shinobi crowded into the tents and medical fields, and her colleagues struggled around her, it was different. In a hospital, where there weren’t so many casualties, she didn’t have to decide who to save and who to leave. She could heal the Sand kunoichi with a head wound in an OR while someone else took care of the kunoichi’s teammates.
It wasn’t the same in war though.
She had to make decisions on who to save and who to ignore. Who to spend her chakra and medical resources on and who to leave behind.
War was brutal in that way.

Summary
Iruka smiled as he realized that their bed would be invaded soon. He loved Metal and Sarada both, but there was a special place in his heart for the little girl. Yamato teased him and said it was likely because she was a cuddler. A small part of Iruka agreed.
There was something special about being one of the few that Sarada always sought out to cuddle with. Knowing that she, as a tiny child who needed protection, sought out him when it was naptime or she was sleepy, made love swell in Iruka’s heart. Sarada wasn’t yet a Shinobi, she didn’t understand how important it was to be able to trust someone to relax in their presence and sleep when they were around.
But when she’d first toddled up to him two years ago, arms outstretched, and had fallen asleep on his shoulder, Iruka knew it was special. And that Sarada was precious. And that he would do everything in his power to show her that.
And if that included cuddling up with her and having her small body wriggling its way under the covers of the futon he shared with Yamato, snuggling up against his side, he would welcome it.

Summary
“How did you know she was teething?”
“Ah,” Gai-sensei entertained Metal with his hands while answering, “Kakashi was wondering why you had taken off from the hospital yesterday and today so he made some inquiries.”
“Oh.”
And Sakura stood there, Sarada clutched in her arms, still sniffling fussily, and not sure what to make of this. Finally, it was Iruka who took the decision out of her hands. He had finished putting away the food in the kitchen and approached Sakura.
Two warm hands settled on her shoulders. She found herself leaning into the support they provided. And then Lee’s hands reached down, picking Sarada out of the little cradle she had created from her arms. He rocked her expertly, having had months of practice doing the same with Metal. And then, Iruka-sensei’s hands were guiding her towards her bedroom.
“Sleep.” Iruka told her once they reached the threshold of her bedroom. “We’ll come wake you up in a while. Get some rest. Between the three of us, you know we can handle Sarada.”

Yamato left the stove for a moment, the flame low as whatever curry he was cooking simmered gently. He took Sakura by the shoulders leading her into the kitchen and ushering her to sit on the ground by Gai’s chair. Iruka grinned at her, and tickled Sarada’s feet again.
“Okay Sarada-chan, let’s try one more thing hmm? I’m Iruka, and you’re sitting with Gai, but who is that?” He pointed to Sakura who got a four-toothed smile from her daughter.
Sarada frowned, her face set in concentration once again. “Ma.” She said, her smile lighting up her face. “Ma-ma!”

Summary
Sakura and Lee walked towards the children’s room warily. It was too quiet in that corner of the house, and they were rightfully worried about the lack of sound coming from the toddlers. Especially since Kakashi was the one left in charge of them.
They had left the children with Hinata today, but had been informed that Himawari had gotten sick and she’d had to send the kids back home.
Back home to be with the only other available adult in their family: Kakashi.
Kakashi, who, when they entered the toddlers’ room, was sprawled on the floor, Hokage robes acting as a blanket for him and the kids. Sarada was draped over his chest, legs dangling on the floor while Metal laid next to him, his little head tucked in between Kakashi’s shoulder and throat. Kakashi--mask still in place--held a book in his hands, reading the story out loud to the kids, pitching his voice differently for each character depicted.

Summary
It was rare that Yamato and Iruka found themselves alone with the babies that had come into their lives.
But there was also twice the amount of joy in everyone’s lives when the little girl in Iruka’s arms giggled at Yamato’s hand puppets. Or when Metal crawled over to Yamato and then stood on shaky legs, jumping up and down, and up and down, on legs that weren’t yet sturdy.
He’d always been happy with Iruka and whatever family they’d been building with Team Seven, but this...helping raise these children, with all of his family around, baby laughs and giggles punctuating the air, spit-ups and formula staining more than a few shirts, was even better.
It felt like he was really raising his family.
