The locals here only know that the woman with Vauban in the photograph was a friend who went missing a long time ago. (Missing, not dead, and a small part of Vauban still hopes some days that Rouge will come barging in her bar like she owns the damn place.)
(Hope is a powerful thing, but it can also be crushing.)
No one ever made the connection to the infamous pirate Captain who destroyed so much buildings and institutions while cackling like a maniac and the woman smiling so widely on that photo.
