Chapter Text

Sonic was more than thrilled. He was ecstatic. Why is that, you ask? [Watch all of Sonic Prime and you'll find ou-]

Green Hill is back! His friends are back. He's home.

Sonic gave everyone nice long hugs, picking Amy up and twirling her around, squeezing Tails so hard that the poor kid might've burst right then and there- then Rouge, who accepted the hug happily, despite having never hugged the blue blur before. And then he hugged Knuckles, toppling the echidna over and having the hug last a bit too long. Did either mobian mind? Not in the slightest.

There was something that Sonic saw in the echidna's gaze that caught his eye, but as quickly as he noticed it, it was gone.

Everyone was curious as to why Sonic had a sudden change of behavior- his choice to fight with them rather than solo-ing during a fight where they're all supposed to be working together- and the sudden clinginess. Amy asked what happened, but Sonic just brushed it off as a realization for how grateful he is to have such awesome friends. And they were grateful to have him all the same.

After their little picnic celebration (organized by Amy an Tails), Sonic ran around, laughing as he finally felt the Green Hill wind in his sapphire quills once again. He wished he could share this with Nine, but he shook off that thought. Nine should be happier in The Grim, with no Chaos Council to worry about. Sonic chuckled at the memory of his new friends kicking the Chaos Councils' butts into the Void as he ran the Loop-de-Loop countless times, never growing tired of doing so.

Nothing made the hedgehog happier than running. Being the fastest thing alive, he has a constat need for being on the move. In an uncomfortable situation? Go for a run. Feeling tired? Go for a run. Bump into te black and red hedgehog that helped you put the universe back together and saved your life? Go for a-

Wait a minute.

Wait a damn minute-

Sonic fell on his ass right in front of the Ultimate Lifeform himself, who was smirking down at him. Oh great, Sonic thought. My rival having another reason to be better than me...

"You should be more careful, hedgehog." Shadow said, holding out a hand to help Sonic get up.

"Wh- I was! In fact, I was busy being so careful that I just didn't see you there!" Sonic exclaimed, taking the other hedgehog's hand and allowed himself to be pulled up.

Shadow snorted and rolled his eyes. "Sure you were. It looked like you were more focused on having fun rather than paying attention to where you were going."

"Yeah, yeah, but so what? We're home, Shadow! Now that we fixed the shatterspaces, we can relish our time and take everything in. Green Hill is a beautiful place after all!" Sonic quipped. As he continued yapping, Shadow zoned out and got lost in his own thoughts. Any place is beautiful with you in it, he thought, but pushed it away, knowing he could never, ever-

"What was that, Shads?"

Shadow snapped out of his thoughts, his ruby eyes widening. Did he say that out loud? Oh dear, that was bad. Really bad.

Shadow cleared his throat. "I don't remember saying anything just now." He stated blankly.

"Aw, come on~ I heard you say somethin'~" Sonic teased, poking Shadow's chest playfully.

Shadow growled and removed Sonic's hand from his chest, before turning around and beginning to walk away.

Sonic wasn't going to give up that easily, though. He was known for being persistent, to the point of getting on his enemies nerves. Not just enemies, but Shadow as well. The blue hedgehog walked backwards next to Shadow, arms beind his head as he tried to read the other hedgehog's expression. It was an emotionless one at that- but with the way his eyebrows were always furrowed as if he were in deep thought, Shadow always looked pissed.

"Soo, Shads-"

"What did I tell you about calling me that?" He snapped at the blue blur, who rolled his green eyes in response.

"Easy there, faker. It's just a nickname." Sonic winked, causing Shadow to groan. "But seriously, dude. I genuinely wanna know what you said before-"

"And I genuinely want you to stop asking me about it. I already told you that I don't remember-"

"Well I genuinely want you to stop lying to me and just-" Sonic gasped as he was slammed against a nearby tree, with Shadow's strong hands on either side of the blue hedgehog. He could easily slip out from underneath his arms, but he made Shadow mad- he didn't want to make it worse.

"You just don't know when to quit, do you?" Shadow hissed, glaring daggers into the blue blur's emerald eyes. Although he was royally pissed at the hedgehog, he could neverbring himself to punch him like he so desperately wanted to right now. Curse him- curse him for being so...so pretty. Cute, even. But with the way he was looking at Sonic right now, the other hedgehog would never guess that those kinds of thoughts were lurking about in the brain of the Ultimate Lifeform.

Sonic gulped, and opened his mouth to speak, but was silenced with Shadow's next words.

"I don't like you, and I never will. You may think we're friends now because we worked together, but that changes nothing between us." Shadow closed his eyes as he continued to speak- mainly so he could escape seeing the hurt in Sonic's eyes. Those gorgeous eyes just might shed tears because of him...

"And me saving you was just so I didn't have the weight of another unnecessary death on my hands. I have more important things to worry about than you." Shadow let go of the tree and took a step back, opening his eyes- only to be met with the trembling form of the Hero of Mobius. He felt a pang of guilt, but it had to be done. He can't ever get close like that to someone again. Not after-

"So you can be friends with Amy and Rouge and Silver, but not me?" Sonic said, but it came out as a mere whisper, the pain evident in his shaky voice. Shadow's ears drooped with shame, ultimately betraying his angered expression.

"They-"

"What's so wrong with me? Am I that annoying to you?"

"Yes." Shadow answered with no hesitation. Sonic knew it was true, but it still felt like a punch to his gut, knowing that the one he admired most found him to be a nuisance. He looked at his feet, feeling the lowest he's felt since the Paradox Prism incident...since hurting Nine...

"If you must know, Silver needed a role-model and a friendship developed over time. Rouge and I work together, and she proved herself to be worthy of my time. Cream reminds me of someone I lost, so I feel the need to protect her. And Amy kept pushing herself, so we went to a concert together and got along surprisingly well."

Sonic saw Shadow smile a bit while talking about the others, and his heart ached. Why couldn't he talk about him like that? Angry tears stung his eyes as he tried to think of a reason for Shadow to give him a chance.

He blinked. "Wait, so Amy's allowed to push herself onto you, but when I do it, you act like the world is ending." He spat.

"She's not nearly as annoying as you are. And none of them pester me about private things, let alone get in my way." Shadow spat back.

"So rather than even giving me a chance, you're just gonna throw me away and forget about me?" Sonic choked out, stopping Shadow in his tracks. He turned around to see Sonic's face contorted with emotional pain, tears of hurt and anger streaming down his face. This was the first time Shadow had ever seen the blue blur cry.

"Am I nothing to you, Shadow?"

That was the hardest question anyone's ever asked him. He could go about it two ways: Chaos Control the hell out of there, or hurt Sonic even more.

He had to ensure that Sonic would leave him alone, though. The feelings he held towards the hedgehog scared him- and he couldn't afford to feel for someone so reckless- always putting himself in danger. Not after Maria.

Shadow huffed. "What a stupid question..." He glanced at the horrified hedgehog once more before taking out his green Chaos Emerald.

"Chaos Control!"

And then he was gone.

Sonic was curled up in Tails' garage. Not one of his friends had ever seen him like this before, not even Tails.

Amy felt so bad for him. She had seen him bump into Shadow when she was out picking flowers for Rouge's house. Something bad must have went down for Sonic to be this upset.

"What's the matter big blue? Did you almost drown again?" Rouge cooed cautiously. She turned around for a moment, signaling for everyone (Tails and Knuckles) to leave. Amy stayed, though- her best friend needed her right now.

Sonic finally looked up, his eyes puffy due to how long he'd been crying. He wiped his eyes with his arm, and before he could even get a word out, he started sobbing again.

Rouge and Amy took him into their warm embrace, shushing him and rubbing his back as he choked on his own tears.

"Shadow-" He gasped, sniffling as he tried to calm down. "H-He hates me-"

The girls expressions turned serious.

"Darling, I don't think he hates you-"

"You don't understand. He pinned me to a tree just to berate me about how I'm always in his way, I'll never be his friend, he'll never like me..." Sonic trailed off.

"Are you sure you're not overthinking this?" Amy asked, cupping Sonic's face.

"Would I be this upset if I was lying? The last thing that bastard did before leaving was after I asked him if I was nothing to him. He told me that it was a stupid question, and then he used the Chaos Emerald to get away from me...I'm probably disgusting to him or something-"

"That's enough, Sonic." Rouge hissed. "I won't stand here and allow one of my best friends to talk about himself like this." She rubbed his forehead and kissed it, pulling back to smile down at him.

Sonic blew his nose with a tissue provided by the pink hedgehog. "Why does he push me away every time I think we're getting close, but with you guys he gets all buddy-buddy with?" Sonic cried. The girls looked at each other. It was severely out of character for Sonic to be this devastated over someone not wanting to be his friend...unless-

"Blue...do you-" Rouge tried to stop herself from smiling at the reaization. "Do you like him-?"

Sonic stopped crying, and he stared at her for a good minute before turning even redder than he already was from crying.

"Rouge, maybe we should talk about that another time, he's really upset right now-" Amy protested, but to no avail-

Rouge sighed while Amy held his hand. "Shadow- he pushes people away when he doesn't understand his feelings towards them. Especially after what happened with the friend he lost. It's his weird way of protecting them from him." Rouge started. "Believe me, blue, it wasn't easy for either of us to get this close to him either. But he never went as far as to hurt us to get us to stay away. I'll go talk to him-" The bat was stopped by a small tug on her hand. She smiled softly and understood what the blue blur wanted.

"Alright, blue. I'll stay here with you and Pinky over here." Rouge ruffled Amy's quills, causing the girl to giggle and playfully swat her hand away. "But later I'm going to kick his ass for bringing you to tears, mkay?" Rouge promised, managing to make Sonic chuckle.

"Alright, Rouge..." He whispered, before passing out from all the crying in Amy's arms.

Little did the trio know, the ebony hedgehog heard everything they discussed, then chaos controlled to Rouge's house.

"We need to talk. Now." Rouge flew down to the front of her house where Shadow stood.

"So I heard." Shadow fiddled with his gloves.

"You were there the whole time, and you didn't fucking think to step in and say something? Do you know how much you hurt him?!" Rouge yelled, swinging her leg around to kick him in the side. He did nothing to stop her from knocking him to the ground, as he allowed her to take out her rage on him quite often. He was able to withstand it and heal quickly, and he didn't tell her his other reasoning for letting her do it- he felt that he deserved every blow.

"I did what had to be done."

"You could've just talked to him about how you feel around him-"

"No."

"Why?"

"He can't know. That puts him in danger. I would break him."

"No you wouldn't, drama queen. You're a sweetheart deep down, Shadow." Rouge said. "And in danger of what?"

Shadow realized that Rouge wasn't going to let up, and he let out an exasperated sigh. "In danger of dying. Anyone I've ever cared about is dead-"

"Why are you talking as if there were others besides Maria?"

"Why can't you ever leave me alone?"

"Alright, kids, that's enough." Amy suddenly chimed in. She cupped Shadow's face and stared at him with a serious gaze. Amy was one of very few people he allowed to hold him- or have any sort of physical contact with, for that matter.

"Look at me and tell me you don't care about Sonic." Amy demanded. When Shadow averted his eyes and opened his mouth to speak, she wasn't having it.

"No. You will look me in the eyes and say it. If you can't, then we know you're lying." Amy said sternly.

After a few moments, Shadow grunted a furrowed his eyebrows even more than they already were. He began anxiously fidgeting with his hands.

"I...can't." Amy smirked triumphantly at the ebony hedgehog- but he wasn't done speaking yet.

"How...do I fix this?" Shadow asked quietly.

"I dunno, you fucked up royally this time." Rouge jerked her thumb towards Tails' garage, and there sat Sonic, with Knuckles holding his hand while the poor thing sobbed into the echidna's shoulder. Seeing Sonic so broken tugged at Shadow's heartstrings- even more so knowing that he was the cause of it. But seeing someone else hold Sonic's hand?

Shadow growled, causing Rouge to chuckle. "What's the matter, honey? Isn't he just a rival?"

"Now, don't do anything stupid, Shadow. Think rationally about this-" Amy cut herself off as she watched Shadow get up.

"Oh, I'm thinking quite rationally, Rose. I just don't appreciate it when others touch what's mine."

Instead of grabbing the speedster and marking his pretty neck up for all to see, he took Amy's advice and waited by the Loop-de-Loop. Sonic always runs when he's emotional-

A sudden gust of blue wind had Shadow's quills all over the place. As he was fixing them up, the gust of wind came back, causing him to growl- until he realized that said gust of wind wasn't wind at all, but the very blue blur he was waiting for.

He reached a hand out at the perfect time- enclosing his hand around Sonic's arm, stopping the younger hedgehog in his tracks.

"Let. Go." Sonic hissed, glaring at Shadow.

"Give me a chance to explain myself and I'll let you go." Shadow said calmly.

Sonic yanked his arm away and crossed his arms, scoffing. "Why should I give you a chance when you couldn't even bother to give me one- Wh-What are you doing-" Sonic had his back pressed up against a tree for the second time today, but this time, Shadow's arms were limp at his sides.

Both hedgehogs hearts were racing as Shadow stepped closer, their bodies pressing together.

"Sha-Shadow?" Sonic sputtered. "I-I don't think this is explaining yourself. You literally proved that I mean nothing to you, Shadow." Sonic put his hads on Shadow's chest, preparing to push the other hedgehog away. As he did so, he could have sworn that he heard Shadow's breath hitch at the contact.

Shadow didn't budge. Instead, he looked at Sonic in a way that made thr younger hedgehog's knees weak.

No! Why...am I still so weak for him? I'm supposed to be strong in front of him, not- Sonic yelped as he felt Shadow snake a hand around his waist, resting on the small of his back. He turned red- either from being flustered or angry, he didn't know- when Shadow smirked at his reaction.

"No. N-No! You can't just leave me at my lowest, which you were also the cause of, and then come back doing, what-whatever the hell this i-" He let out a gasp-like moan as Shadow went for Plan B. Sonic's knees wobbled as he gripped onto Shadow's chest fluff to pull himself deeper into the kiss- causing Shadow to grunt.

Shadow lifted Sonic and held his legs around his waist. Sonic let out an unnaturally high-pitched moan when he felt Shadow's crotch press against his own, and bucked his hips against the other hedgehog.

Shadow pulled away to allow the both of them to breathe- but it only lasted for a few seconds, because Shadow roughly yanked his head back, exposing the blue hedgehog's neck.

"Wha-WHat are you-" Sonic arched his back and his eyes widened as he moaned, savoring the delicious feeling of Shadow's teeth on his skin. "Mnah- Sh-Shads-" He let out a surprised moan when Shadow grabbed his quills and yanked his head back further. "What did I say about you calling me that?" Shadow growled into his shoulder.

"Shit...that was hot..." Sonic mumbled. "A-And what am I supposed to call you, 'Daddy'? 'Sir'? 'Master'-" He gulped as he felt Shadow's deep chuckle rumble into his shoulder, smirking as he pulled back to look down at him.

"I don't know, but it seems to me that you've had these ideas in your head for a while now, hmm?" Shadow admired his handiwork- the marks on the blue hedgehog's shoulder, his flushed and trembling form- and the way he was looking at the black and red hedgehog with those eyes-

"Wh- N-Nooo-" Sonic laughed nervously, his green eyes darting every which way so he could avoid those piercing red eyes.

"You're a terrible liar," Shadow mused.

"I'm not lyi-"

"I'm liking the idea of you screaming my actual name rather than calling me your suggestions, as appealing as some of them sound," Shadow interrupted, lifting Sonic's chin with his index finger, causing the younger to ellicit a high-pitched squeak.

"But, I am...sorry for...how I treated you today. I don't...exactly handle feelings too well and usually resort to pushing people away when I think they're getting too close." Shadow held Sonic's hands in his own. "I...hope you can forgive m-" Sonic crashed his lips against Shadow's, earning a soft-but-now-muffled gasp from Shadow.

"You've got a lot of damage to repair if I'm going to forgive you, mister." Sonic puffed out his cheeks and crossed his arms in a childish manner as he pulled back from the kiss.

"...but nothing's broken-?" Shadow tilted his head in confusion.

"I meant emotional pain, Shadow, not physical. And if you really want me to be yours, you have to repair the damage you caused today. Can you promise me that?"

Shadow sighed, and smiled softly at Sonic. "I promise."

"Promise you're never gonna do that to me again?"

"Are you insinuating that I have problems with anger management?"

"Wh- I said nothing remotely close to that, and those are your words, not mine." Sonic pointed out.

Shadow smiled again. That damn smile made Sonic's heart do cartwheels every time he saw it. "I promise."

The two talked for a good two hours, laughing and telling really shitty jokes to each other.

It was towards sunset when Shadow got up and held a hand out to the blue blur.

"You're not mad at me, are you?" Sonic asked, taking his hand and pulled himself up.

"Why would I be?"

"You said we can't date yet...but you never told me why," Sonic pouted.

Shadow sighed and smoothed a hand over his face. "This is the third time I'm telling you this, it's because of our age gap-"

"Is that also the reason why you won't claim me?" Sonic leaned forward, pressing his nose against Shadow's nose and wrapping his arms around his neck.

Shadow forgot how to breathe in those few moments. Once he recomposed himself, he growled animalistically and pinned Sonic to the ground.

"Don't tempt me, hedgehog."

"Mhmhmhm~ That's more like it~" Sonic purred, wrapping his legs around Shadow's waist so their pelvises met, and began to softly grind.

Shadow groaned and bit down hard on Sonic's chest, grinding down on the younger's crotch with enough pressure to make Sonic's eyes roll into the back of his head.

"Ffffuuck, Shads- M-More-" Sonic squirmed when Shadow stopped, leaving trails of kisses and bite marks in his wake.

"Shadoow~ Don't stop, pleeease~"

"Awh, I'd hate to leave you like this, but I can't indulge until you're eighteen." Shadow flicked his nose. "Don't tempt me if you want to make this work between us, or I promise you that once I'm able to, I will punish you so hard that you won't be able to sit without thinking about me buried inside that sweet ass of yours, Sonic." Shadow growled lowly in the blue hedgehog's ear, causing him to sputter flustered nonsense.

"I- uh- D-Don't threaten me with a good time-?" Sonic blurted out the first thing that came to his mind, causing Shadow to chuckle as he helped Sonic get up once again.

"Can't you ever take anything seriously?"

Sonic smiled, and shrugged. "Most of the time- no. Certain times, yes."

Shadow sighed. "Oh, I forgot one last thing. Keep the teasing to a minimum. If you push my buttons far past my limit, I'll snap and say things that I mean in those moments of rage, but I will never truly mean it and regret it later."

Sonic nodded his head, and held Shadow's hand, rubbing his gloved palm with his thumb.

"I'll try not to get on your nerves too much, Shads." He shot the Ultimate Lifeform a wink.

"We really have to change that nickname." Shadow sighed.

"Oh come on, it'll grow on you!"

"I highly doubt it, hedgehog."

Sonic and Shadow raced back to the little town that was the home to Sonic and his friends, and Shadow won.

"Aw, c'mon! No fair, you had a head start-" He let out a muffled squeak as he was sileced with a firm yet gentle kiss.

They both pulled away when they heard girlish squealing from behind them. Amy was happily stimming and Rouge gave Shadow a thumbs up.

"How does it feel that you're both on good terms now?" Tails asked his brother. "I think he feels just fine, kit." Rouge purred, winking at Sonic after seeing his marked up neck and chest.

The blue hedgehog turned red at the bat's gesture.

"Hey, kit, Cream should be arriving with Silver and Blaze any minute now. You should go greet them." Rouge stated, jerking her thumb towards Tails' garage.

"You could've just told me you were gonna have an adult conversation..." Tails grumbled as he picked himself up with his namesakes and flew over to his garage.

"They really are coming, though, hon!" Rouge shouted.

"That's what she said!" Tails shouted back, causing Amy to fumble over her words in utter shock, Sonic to choke on his saliva, and in a very rare moment- caused Shadow to burst out laughing, and Rouge joined in.

Sonic and Amy stared at him while he laughed- in both shock and awe.

"I- I think I'm starting to like this kid. Not bad for a twelve-year old." Shadow wheezed.

"Wh- HEY! What's that supposed to mean?!" Amy puffed out her cheeks and whined like a child.

"Calm your quills, Ames, it's a compliment." Sonic chuckled. He smiled lovingly at Shadow as the ebony hedgehog calmed down.

"So...how was the sex?"

"Rouge!!" Amy gasped, smacking the bat's arm while looking at Sonic, who turned a bright shade of crimson.

Shadow facepalmed and groaned. "Oh for Chaos sake, Rouge- he is fifteen. We did not have intercour-"

"So what's all that on him then?" The bat gestred to the love marks.

Shadow blushed and averted his gaze. "Things...got out of hand. But it's not sex, so it's okay...right? I mean, not that I care about what anyone thinks about us, but it doesn't hurt to know."

"Technically it's considered a sexual act, so you could get in trouble...if he or his family members reported you. But since we are his family, and we know you, we won't be doing that." Amy stated proudly.

"Well that's a relief," Sonic exhaled.

"But, why the visible marks, handsome?" Rouge asked on behalf of genuine curiosity, but there was a teasing lilt to her voice.

"Because he's mine." Shadow claimed, tugging Sonic towards him by his hip, causing the younger to squeak in surprise.

"Damn. What if Knuckles wanted to...sha-" Rouge cut herself off the moment she recieved the daggers that were being sent her way with her best friend's ruby gaze.

"Aaand that answers my question!" Rouge laughed nervously.

Sonic, however, felt uneasy. He'd been feeling for both the echidna and the other hedgehog for quite a while now, but he didn't know how to approach it. He'd always been told how poly relationships are unhealthy and weird and wrong- but he liked weird. He liked trying to prove others wrong. He also wanted to follow his heart, as cheesy as that sounds. Maybe he'd deal with it closer to his birthday...

He looked at his friends and observed their smiling faces and and playful banter.

Yeah.

For now, let's just embrace the time we have together, he thought with a smile.

Nearly a year later... [Sonic's 16th Birthday]

Everyone already sang to him and cut the cake, that was in the shape of a giant chili dog and was chocolate and vanilla flavored.

It's been almost a year since the Paradox Prism incident, and life has been...mostly fantastic. Tails has been working on new devices that have been more efficient in taking down Eggman, Amy and Silver opened up a flower shop, Blaze had a house built here for when she and Silver visit- Rouge nearly got scammed out of all of her money (So much for being careful, Shadow had remarked-), Cream and Charmy turned seven and Tails is thirteen now- and Shadow and Knuckles have grown surprisingly close.

Now Sonic will admit that he wishes he could have had it easier with getting to know Shadow, but even the biggest challenges are worth getting through if it means you get to look forward to spending your day with someone like Shadow.

Meanwhile, Knuckles was on another one of his tangents about the Echidna Tribe, his eyes sparkling vibrantly as he did so. Shadow listened, leaning against the wall with a piece of the delicious cake on a plate in his hand.

Being around Knuckles made him feel as safe as he did when he was around Sonic, which was weird because he shouldn't have to have a 'need' to feel 'safe'. But with them he felt it in a comforting way, not in a way in which he was in danger, and needed to be comforted.

Shadow looked at the echidna as he spoke, and he noticed all the things that he hadn't noticed before. His incredibly fluffy fur, and he knew Knuckles was strong, but this was the first time that the Ultimate Lifeform actually took some time to admire and, although he would deny it- appreciate the echidna's toned figure. And the way his amethyst eyes sparkled when he reminisced about his tribe ans life on Angel Island made Shadow smile without realizing it.

"Hey, Knuckles! Amy wants to plan your next birthday party and wants your input on some things!" A voice called out to the echidna, who whipped his head around to see who called for his attention. He spotted the white hedgehog waving at him with one of the biggest grins possible. Silver had just turned fifteen recently, but he was still a rambunctious kid.

"Ah, it seems that I am needed elsewhere, Shadow." Knuckles stated, straigtening his posture.

"So it seems." Shadow nodded his head at him.

Knuckles reached behind himself to scratch the back of his head nervously. "You know, Shadow, I...really wanted to thank you."

Shadow tilted his head like a confused Earth-dog or cat, and the sight caused Knuckles' heart to stutter with how cute Shadow was being- and without even realizing it! "Thank me for what, exactly?"

"For being here. For listening to me. For taking care of my best friend when I didn't have the balls to-"

"I would certainly hope you still have them." Shadow said seriously, a hint of concern creeping into his voice.

Knuckles blinked, and then his chest rumbled with laughter. "Oh boy, Shadow, it's a saying. You still have a lot to learn..." He placed a hand on Shadow's shoulder. "...my friend."

Shadow's heart skipped a beat at the sudden contact, but relaxed and smiled.

"Why haven't you told him yet? You're well within the age range for him." Shadow's sudden comment after the brief silence caused the echidna to turn a deep shade of crimson.

"I...it's of my understanding that you are pursuing him...and I saw him on that day when you staked your claim on him. I don't mess with others...uhm...well, you claimed him as yours, and I don't want to screw that up-" Knuckles stopped himself once he noticed Shadow was trembling- but he relaxed once he realized why.

"You have it in your mind that you'd screw us up?" Shadow chuckled. "If you asked me if I thought that you would a year ago, I would think yes, you would."

"Ouch," Knuckles playfully jabbed.

"But-" Shadow continued. "After seeing the way you two interact with each other...how much you really do care for him- I...don't think I would be opposed to sharing. After all, I don't believe it would be fair to keep such a rambunctious hedgehog confined to one person when I know very well he has feelings for you as well, even if he hasn't told me. I may not be the best at handling and identifying my own emotions, I have this strange ability to detect others emotions, especially when it comes to things like this." Shadow shrugged. "He doesn't necessarily hide it well, either."

Knuckles' eyes widened as he took in all of what Shadow was telling him.

"So what I'm hearing from you is that if Sonic doesn't mind, he could have the both of us?"

Shadow nodded. "If he wants."

"If he wants..." Knuckles repeated slowly, as if tasting the words on his tongue. "So...what would that mean for us?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, would we be just two friends sharing a boyfriend, or would we also be..."

Shadow blinked, and blushed slightly. "We...can figure that out if we get to that point."

Knuckles felt a surge of excitement course through his veins, his heart thumping in his chest while his mind was swimming with possibilities, not just for him and Sonic, but for him and Shadow as well. He tried his best not to show his excitement, but a satisfied-yet-giddy grin crawled onto his face.

Cute, Shadow thought. If things went well today, then everything between the trio should turn out fine.

"Knuckles? You comin'?" Rouge called, causing Knuckles to sigh.

"I better, uh-" Knuckles started.

"Yeah-" Shadow nodded.

"-get goin', then-" Knuckles finished.

They both stood there awkwardly before Knuckles gave Shadow a quick kiss on the cheek- then proceeding to walk away while waving to Shadow.

Shadow closed his eyes and smirked, leaning against the wall as he listened to the sounds of the party- Team Chaotix chatting it up with Tails and Cream, the music, Blaze and Amy laughing while dancing together as Rouge took over her party-planning for Knuckles' party, someone sneaking up behind him-

Wait. Shadow surveyed the room, rolling his eyes and chuckling as he immediately realized who it was.

"Having fun, Sonic?" Shadow grinned. Sonic threw his arms around Shadow's neck from behind and began whining. "Oh come on, Shads! You always ruin the fun for me! Can't a guy have a good time?"

"I can show you a real good time in exactly two years from today, that is...if you're willing to be a good boy for Daddy until then~" Shadow purred, inwardly cringing at his use of the dominant name for himself. Oh well, he thought. I'll get used to the damn name if he likes it.

Sonic practically fell off of Shadow's back as he shrieked in an incredibly flustered manner.

"What's the matter, pet? I figured you would like that one," Shadow chuckled.

Sonic looked up at Shadow from where he was on the ground, and his brain conjured up an image of Shadow's face between his thighs, and then one of Shadow forcing his legs to spread open as he-

Uh oh. Oh no. Oh my. Oh dear Chaos-

Sonic had a problem. He needed Shadow, and fast. But he's not the legal age yet-

Sonic gulped and let out a flustered 'eep!' when he registered just what Shadow called him.

"I-I need to use the restroom-!" Sonic scrambled to get up and then he ran to the bathroom.

Shadow was still smirking when Knuckles walked up to him.

"What'd you do to the poor guy, Shadow?" Knuckles chuckled.

Shadow let out a 'hmph' of satisfaction before speaking. "I used one of those 'dominant partner' names when referring to myself and he fell apart- in a flustered way."

"Huh..I bet his reaction was adorable." Knuckles grinned.

"You'd bet correctly then." Shadow smiled.

Around fifteen minutes later, Sonic came back. "I-I'm back-!" His hands were on his knees, and he was wheezing. His face was flushed and sweaty, as if-

Shadow and Knuckles looked at each other, and then back at Sonic, and then back at each other again. Their faces were now tinted red- with one trying to put the thought of what might have went down out of his head, while the other couldn't stop thinking about it.

"What..What're you guys lookin' at...?" Sonic raised an eyebrow.

"Uhh...you?" Knuckles said with a nervous grin.

"Awh, I'm just that irresistable, huh?~" Sonic struck a cutesy/innocent-looking pose as he batted his eyes.

Knuckles snorted and tried his best not to laugh while Shadow groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Sonic, there's something we have to ask you."

"Funnily enough, there's something I have to tell you," Sonic replied without missing a beat.

"Then uh- oh, you want me to say it?" Shadow asked, and Knuckles gave him a shy thumbs up.

"Let's say it on the count of three then. One...two-" Sonic paused, and then-

"Three-!"

"Will you be our boyfriend?" was asked at the same time Sonic sputtered- "I really really like the both of you and I'm poly and I want you two to be my boyfriends-"

Knuckles grinned widely as he walked over to Sonic, picking him up and spinning him around, laughing because-

"Yes!" All three of them answered in unison.

And there they had it. Knuckles looked at Sonic for a while with such adoration in his eyes before kissing him passionately in the corner of Amy's house. Once they pulled away, Knuckles allowed Sonic to pounce on Shadow, giving his face numerous amounts of kisses.

"Does Mister Sonic love Mister Knuckles AND Mister Shadow?" Cream asked Tails while holding his hand.

"I think so, Cream. I really think he does." Tails smiled.

"LET'S FUCKING GOOO- I'M EIGHTEEN NOW, BITCHES!" Sonic yelled as soon as he walked out of Tails' house.

"Was that really necessary, Sonic-" Tails yawned, removing his nightcap. The poor thing finally got actual sleep and was woken up at six in the morning to his older brother's valid enthusiasm.

"Yes, yes it was, little buddy." Sonic said proudly.

"SOONIIIC!!" Amy came running up to Sonic, throwing herself onto him- enveloping him in a big hug. "Happy Birthday, bestie!"

Sonic laughed and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Their relationship with each other is 100% platonic, kind of like a brother-sister relationship.

Amy just recently turned fifteen along with Tails and Sticks, so the three of them have almost hit their milestone marks of turning sixteen. While Amy hasn't grown much, and probably won't anymore- Tails' height skyrocketed. He's nearly as tall as Sonic now.

Speaking of the boy, he was currently opening his garage to retrieve Sonic's present.

"So I wanted to give you your birthday present now rather than later, 'cause I'm going out today." Tails flew over to the hidden object and pulled off the cover, revealing Sonic's racecar- looking pristine as always. Sonic's dramatic gasp was all he needed to hear to know that his brother absolutely loved it.

"Look at her, in all of her glory! I can't believe you fixed her up for me!" Sonic gushed.

"She's also got a chili dog dispenser now. There's a button with a chili dog sticker on it-"

Sonic tumbled into his racecar and pressed the button immediately, two fresh chili dogs coming out of the side of the car being held by a robotic arm. Sonic practically inhaled them, moaning in delight at the wonderful taste.

"Where do the ingredients come from? Do you store them somewhere in the vehicle, do you have to replenish them, or do they just never run out or expire?" Amy asked while Sonic finished off the last bite of his chili dog.

Tails laughed. "Don't ask." He said with a deadpan expression.

"You don't know, do you?" Amy sighed.

"No, I do, it's just that the location and where I got them from isn't important."

"Do you really want your brother eating moldy food?"

"It's not gonna get moldy! The reason it stays fresh is a secret!" Tails explained, already exasperated. He took a deep breath before speaking again. "Anyway, I also had a little help from a certain someone," Tails explained to Sonic, wiggling his eyebrows. Sonic raised an eyebrow in confusion, but his eyes widened as he heard the familiar rumble of a motor engine get closer to the garage. His heart fluttered and his stomach flipped at the realization as to who it was- and he darted outside as soon as he heard the ignition turn off.

"SHADOOW!!" Sonic toppled the other hedgehog off of his bike, flooding him with kisses.

Shadow began laughing a lot more after he got with Sonic- which meant he was growing more comfortable as time went on. He still has his trust issues, and is constantly worried that something might happen to him (as much as he tries not to show it-) if Sonic continues to be so reckless.

Shadow was the first to say 'I love you', which shocked everyone when it happened. He proclaimed his undying love to Sonic on his 17th birthday party (in a lot of words) causing Sonic to giggle and respond with- "I love you too, but you didn't have to get on your knees for that, Shads- that's marriage-" to which Shadow replied- "...Marry me then...?" The question made Sonic's heart stop, but he explained to Shadow that he was only 17 and wasn't legally allowed to marry yet, but also that it was far too early in their relationship to get married. Shadow took this information and held it close, letting his boyfriend know that he understood and respected the information given to him.

Shadow accepted the flood of kisses with a satisfied grin. Shadow didn't have to be verbal with Sonic for the blue blur to know that his boyfriend truly loved physical affection the most. Verbal affection came as a close second.

"Okay, okay, that's enough for now, sweetheart- let me at least get your birthday presents-" Shadow grunted as Sonic jumped off of him. "Shit...I feel old-"

"That's 'cause you are. You were made over fifty years ago-" Tails said, matter-of-factly.

"Why you- Go fly somewhere else-" Shadow groaned.

"Now now, Shads, be nice to my little brother. He's sensitive-" Sonic giggled.

"Wh- Sonic, I am not!"

"Anyway- you said presents? As in multiple gifts?" Sonic gasped dramatically, choosing to ignore his brother's protests. "Shads, honey, you didn't have to do that! Your presence on my birthday is more than enough!" Sonic kissed the elder hedgehog's cheek.

"Oh come on, blue. You two have been over this aready- hell, we've all been over this with you. Not only are the gifts from the heart, but they're also keepsakes from each of your birthdays, hon."

"Rouge!" Sonic beamed as the bat flew down to hug him. She had just turned twenty-one along with Shadow, and although neither friend had the same birthday, Rouge insisted that Amy throw one big birthday bash for her's and Shadiw's birthdays.

Rouge gave him a bone-crushing hug and a motherly kiss on the forehead.

"Hey, blue- Want me to tell you a secret about one of the gifts Shadow got for you, dear?" Rouge asked, her suggestive tone evident in the way she spoke.

"Rouge, don't you dare-" Shadow growled, the heat rising in his cheeks.

"Normally I'd say that I'd like to keep it a surprise, buut I'm especially curious now that Shads is all riled up about it~" Sonicpurred, making Shadow's stomach flutter.

"Haha! Bet," Rouge grinned, rubbing her hands together mischeivously. She beckoned for Sonic to come closer, and then whispered in his ear-

"He took a trip with me to that 'funny' store and I helped him pick something out for you, since I have more experience in that department~"

It seemed that every part of the now eighteen year-old hedgehog turned red- his face, the tips of his ears, and oddly enough, his tail. When he looked at his boyfriend, the black and red hedgehog was covering his face out of embarrassment.

Sonic recomposed himself and walked over to Shadow. "You know, Shads, I could definitely try thing out for you tonight...if you wanna come home with me~?" He said lowly so only Shadow would hear.

"Rouge and Omega helped me build a house here, so you and I have plans after the party," Shadow growled in Sonic's ear.

"For Gaia's sake, GET A ROOM, YOU TWO!" Tails groaned loudly. "And not in my house, Sonic. I don't need to hear my brother getting plowed while I'm working."

Everyone stared at Tails for a good minute. Amy was more shocked than the rest of them, Rouge was sickering like an immature teenage boy, Shadow didn't say anything, and Sonic was as red as-

"How's my favorite sister doing?"

"GAH- Knuckles, don't scare me like that! And I'm your only sister-" Amy grumbled.

-as red as Sonic's echidna boyfriend.

Knuckles smiled at Sonic. "And how's my emerald doing? Happy Birthday, by the way!" Knuckles kissed him briefly before hading him a gift box.

"Oh, come on! I'm gonna go back to my room so I don't have to see this-" Tails complained.

"Jeez, a little P.D.A. nevr bothered you this much before, bro. What's eatin' at you?" Sonic asked, leaning on Shadow while holding Knuckles' hand.

"It's not fair that you have two people that love you, meanwhile I can't even get the guy I like to look my way- at least in THAT way-"

Sonic blinked. "You're- into guys?"

"I'm honestly not even surprised it took you this long to figure it out. I figured you would at least pick up some signs, but that ADHD of yours really fucks up your attention span." Tails sighed.

"Ouch-" Then it registered inside the blue hedgehog's head what his brother had just said. "Woah, woah- WOAH- Easy with the language, bud!" Sonic shrieked.

"Gee, I wonder who I get it from." Tails smirked.

Everyone stared at Sonic.

"It's Shadow's fault-" Sonic sputtered.

"Bullshit." Shadow chuckled.

"See?" Sonic gestured to his ruby-eyed boyfriend. Not one of his friends believed him.

"Who is your interest in, if you don't mind me asking?" Amy asked the two-tailed fox with a caring smile.

Tails' namesakes began whirring just at the mere thought of his yellow, slightly older friend.

"...Ray-"

"Awh that's- actually perfect, not gonna lie," Sonic grinned.

"Not like you could anyway, you're a terrible liar," Shadow mused, eliciting a playfully offended 'Hey!' from the blue blur.

"'The couple that could fly'! I can totally see it!" Amy beamed.

The six of them kept chatting as they began to walk towards Amy's house to set up for the party. Friends arrived early to help out, and to keep Sonic from eating the (once again-) chili dog cake. It's become a tradition at this point-

When the time came, Sonic opened his eyes to blue and green decorations, and a big sign that read 'Happy Birthday, Sonic!'

Sonic loved that they re-used the sign from his tenth birthday, because every year, his friends would sign it again and again, kind of like a school yearbook.

Everyone began bombarding him with gifts, and Sonic laughed once he realized it was going to be a busy day.

Sonic and Shadow said their goodbyes to Amy after everyone had left, with Amy kissing both hedgehogs on their cheeks.

Sonic had gotten so many gifts that Big let him use his fishing wagon to carry all of the presents back to Tails' house. Amy had worked with the girls to make him a few flower crowns and got him some cute femme clothes, Mighty and Ray got him a set of comfy crystallized gloves and sneakers (they felt like regular gloves and shoes, just infused with crystals), Silver made him a woven necklace that had an amethyst, an emerald, and a ruby secured into it. Silver made it so that the emerald represents Sonic, and the other two represent Shadow (ruby) and Knuckles (amethyst). "I'll add more gems if you get any more partners in the future!" Silver had said.

Knuckles had something similar in mind, but it wasn't quite the same. He made a vine crown embedded with jewels from Angel Island- blue and green ones to match Sonic's fur and eyes. Charmy, Espio, and Vector pitched in with E-123 OMEGA to build a house that was connected to Tails' house (for easier transporting with all of Sonic's stuff-)

Sonia and Manic HAD to come see their baby brother for their birthday- all three of them were eighteen now! They got to meet Shadow and Knuckles, and gave their approvals- (although Sonia did threaten to end Shadow if he hurt Sonic ever again- like any good big sister would for one of her triplet brothers-) And they got him a framed photograph of the three hedgehog siblings, Tails, and their late mother, Queen Aleena. Sonic had nearly cried at the sight of it, and held it close after embracing his fellow triplets into a tight embrace. They were flabbergasted at how big Tails was now, and once Sonic boasted that his little brother has a crush now, Sonia was all over that info- asking questions left and right, turning the yellow fox's white muzzle red.

Lanolin had arrived with Jet, Wave, Bean, Barry, Bark, and Storm- and they got him a wide variety of comic books from different Earth countries, translated into English (since that's oddly what Mobians speak) just for him. He gave each of them hugs and fist-bumps, minus Lanolin since she wasn't much of a hugger or a fist-bumper. Jet was busy being full of himself, boasting about how he knew exactly what Sonic wanted, warranting a not-too-hard kick to the groin, delivered by Wave herself.

Marine, Trip, and Sticks are like sisters. Sticks didn't participate in the clothes shopping with the other girls because she believed that shopping malls are haunted, and credit card machines are meant for doxxing people. Yes, she is Green Hill's local conspiracy theorist. She got Sonic a bunch of non-GMO plants, and a bunch of odd gear that she made to help him avoid being mind-controlled during the inevitable apocalypse. Marine, however, being the little adventurer she's been since she was five, the now ten year-old raccoon gifted Sonic a hand-sewn pirates costume. "For when you get over your Thalassaphobia and Aquaphobia! Then you can finally join me when I build my ship!" The youngin had exclaimed. Trip had used her allowance money to buy him an Earth-made gaming console- much to Sticks' dismay and protests- so that he could play all sorts of video games! Even ones that were made with his name in the title!

Cream had participated in the flower-crown making with the help of her mother and the other girls, but Cream felt that Sonic deserved something more. So she and her mother, Vanilla, worked together to decorate his new house that Team Chaotix built, and with Vanilla's help, Cream even made a hand-made plushie of Sonic and Tails for him! Honey the Cat and Jewel the Beetle even helped out and chose a memory foam bed with a bigger racecar frame.

And Shadow? Shadow and Amy got tickets for an upcoming concert for the three of them, but Shadow practically spoiled his boyfriend with the amount of shit he got for him. He got him his own helmet for when they ride together, one of Shadow's sweaters, a few pride bracelets from the store Rouge called 'The Edgelord's Palace', a watch to match Shadow's, and the secret gift that Sonic still has to open.

Surge the Tenrec surprised everyone with her visit, despite not being invited (it's not that Amy didn't want to invite her, kt's that she didn't think to invite her, but it's not like she was going to tell her that-), and had a birthday gift ready for him. When he opened it, it was a customized photo album, decorated with chili dog and ring stickers on it. The very first picture was on the inside cover's first page, and it was a picture of Surge, Scourge the Hedgehog, and Kit the Fennec. There was a caption at the bottom of the picture that read: 'Hope you have a rad 1st year as an adult! Happy Birthday, Speedster!'

Shadow was highly overprtective of Sonic when Surge arrived due to her past as a villain, so no one really blamed him for his heavy amount of distrust towards her for that specific reason. 

A light blue fennec fox who was about fifteen years old suddenly stepped out from behind Surge, baring his teeth at the space-hedgehog who dared to doubt his sister in front of him. "Excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are? You certainly don't know a damn thing about us!" He growled.

"Easy, Kit." Surge said while resting a hand on her adopted brother's shoulder, causing him to relax. "To counter your doubts, Shadow, people can change. It's not always easy for people like us...to uh...change...but, we're trying."

Everyone watched as the green and black tenrec moved her hand to rest on her stomach with a soft smile.

"No way-" Sonic breathed, eyes widening at Surge's subtle implications.

"You're not- No way-!" Tails broke into a big grin.

"OH MY DEAR CHAOS- ARE YOU HAVING A BABY?!" Amy squealed, rushing up to kiss Surge's cheek. Surge blushed and looked away, cearly unused to receiving physical affection from anyone other than Scourge.

"Hon, she's clearly pregnant. How far along are you, dear?" Rouge asked, rubbing a hand on Amy's shoulder. As she let her turquoise eyes wander, her ears perked up with curiosity as she noticed something glistening on Surge's left hand. "No way..." She breathed, breaking into a smug grin. "Is that what I think it is?"

Surge's ear flicked with confusion, but then she lifted her left hand and immediately realized what the bat was referring to. She turned redder. "It is. And I'm one month in, I have aout twenty-eight days left." Kit groaned. "Not agaiiin...this is like the fifth time this week that others are fawning over your ring!"
