Comment on Cuckoo's Nest

  1. I can't wait for more! Homunculus Ed Au's are my bread and butter!
I'm especially excited to see how he'll meet Ed, considering that in Blue Bird's Illusion, Ed is the secretary of the Führer.

I'm really interested on how you'll tie that stuff in, if at all because I think blue birds illusion has some interesting stuff like Hohenheim taking the role of Father.I'm speculating a lot right now and I'm anticipating for what will come next and how botched human transmutation Ed will turn into Pride Ed.

It also makes for interesting challenges for Al since he's so alone, (—.... Side tangent... How will Al get to the Rockbells after the transmutation? In the Manga IIRC it was Al in the armor who carried Ed after his double amputation to the Rockbell house to even alert them..) in the beginning and especially here Al seems more dependent on others and Ed especially, it's not like he's helpless, but it seems like he has major abandonment issues, constantly seeking warmth and to replace the gaping hole that Trisha left.

The tragedy of it all being that as Ed still strives to bring back their mother even after years pass, never taking the time to mourn and face reality, Al (slowly) for the first time perhaps gets comfortable with how life is, especially after meeting Izumi.

But he loves Ed too much to even consider questioning him and deep down he wishes to have Trisha back too.

It's sad how Al is depicted to be the more mature one in the brothers dynamic, having been forced to grow up early to protect Ed, his only remaining family because Eds too much of a chaotic little shit to be the voice of reason at times, despite being he older one.

(one of Eds flaws as a character that I think is overlooked. It's not really a flaw because Ed does have his moments, like how he saves Al from Greed and the fight with scar, but for the most part while Al is equally of a little shit he gets to not express it as much as Ed :P....)

It's also sad to think that all of it could've been avoided if they only appreciated what they had instead of looking for more, maybe Eds real sin is greed or sloth, since sloth isn't strictly laziness but Also being aloof, as he's detached in a way from the real world, instead of facing death and coming to terms with his grief, he runs and avoids the issue by telling himself he can just bring her back. (which is a bit of a spoiler if you haven't watched 03, like it explores how sloth could've been Ed's sin)
I feel like the 03 version of the anime did a great job on exploring Ed as an character and how disturbing the thought process is to even consider committing human transmutation, messing with the dead in such a warped way.

Feel like I lost the plot some point in my own comment.... Anyway-
Great first chapter!! I will be subscribing and patiently be waiting for chapter two! Yipeee new reason to log into Ao3 again <33

    1. Aaah thank you! I haven't watched 03, but from what I've heard it takes a more serious approach than brotherhood, which sounds really cool! Im not really tying much of BBI into this fic tbh, because I actually just do not know how it goes at all. I read a summary and saw some art and got excited lol.

And yeah I feel like Al is one of those characters that is just really social in that he needs people around him who he cares about so they can take care of each other. Like the opposite of a lone wolf, I guess? Makes for all the more angst potential :)
