What A Riot!

Summary:

[A Quirkless Omegaverse Prison AU]

At sixteen years old, Todoroki Touya is tried as an adult and sentenced to eight years in prison after committing arson and aggravated assault on a police officer. He spends five years in a high security omega facility, but gets transferred to a coed medium security facility due to good behavior.

Seven months out from Touya being released, an alpha inmate starts a riot that threatens everyone’s impending freedom, but especially threatens Touya who is trapped in the alpha/beta ward of the facility with no easy way to escape.

With a reputation for sleeping around, Touya knows he is in trouble. Will the corrections officer who helps hide him be able to come back for him? Or will Keigo be too late? Will any of Touya’s past flings want to protect him as the prison turns to anarchy and chaos?

Chapter 1

Notes:

So I found this fanfic half written in my notes and was like???? Imma edit that and post it.

I don’t imagine this will be a very long fanfic- just something short and dramatic. And by short, I mean under 100k

So this does have non-con elements, like the fear of being assaulted and also the usual consent argument with omegas and heat, but, spoiler alert, I will not be writing anything graphic like that. So, I did not add the rape/non-con as an archive warning.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Touya is in the infirmary when the gunshots echo through the hallways.

A new medication he has been placed on for his mental health has kept him from sleeping much and it has resulted in him sleeping through meals and subsequently losing weight. He has list too much weight in a single week and is exhausted, and when he couldn’t get out of bed that morning it resulted in the correctional officer dragging him to the infirmary to be assessed.

The prison is divided into two facilities with a shared yard- the male omega section and the beta and alpha section. Besides the yard, they also share the infirmary and psych ward, but otherwise the two populations are kept separate. Touya tends to spend quite a bit of time in both the infirmary and the psych ward of the prison, and he actually likes being in the infirmary because he can get decent sleep there without the noises of other inmates bothering him and keeping him up. However, he hates the psych ward with a passion, and it happens to be next door to the infirmary.

Shuzenji Chiyo is the aging nurse practitioner who runs the infirmary, and Touya appreciates her almost motherly concern and the care she has for the inmates who frequent her ward. She hooks Touya up to an IV to begin giving him fluids as she deems he is very dehydrated.

Touya is much less pleased when Aizawa Shouta shows up to check on him. He is the psychologist for the prison, and Touya is far too familiar with the man after a year in this prison. At the sight of him, Touya rolls over and turns his back to the other omega.

“Don’t be like that.” Aizawa says with a sigh, grabbing a chair and bringing it over to Touya’s bedside. “Talk to me, Todoroki. You’re not sleeping and you’re not eating. All of that can’t be because of the Prozac.”

Touya tugs the thin hospital blanket further up to his head, refusing to speak. Their last conversation had not gone well, and Touya is one to hold grudges.

“If this is in protest to your disciplinary actions, then you’re going to spend more time in psych, Todoroki.” Aizawa informs him, but sighs again. “Actions have consequences. You have repeatedly managed to get ahold of both cigarettes and a lighter, and you’re a convicted arsonist, Todoroki. Your next infraction involving you and a lighter could extend your time in here or get you sent back to high security. You have already spent years in there, but you’re supposed to get out of here in seven months. Don’t be stupid and waste more of your life in prison.”

Touya burrows beneath the blanket, his jaw clenched. He doesn’t feel well enough to deal with this conversation. “I just feel like shit.” He replies, voice muffled from beneath the blanket. “No ulterior motives.”

Aizawa clicks his tongue, pulling out his phone and rereading the email he received. “Your correctional officers seem to think you’re on a hunger strike in retaliation for having your yard privileges and commissary privileges revoked.”

“It’s the meds.” Touya insists.

Aizawa looks up from his phone, staring at the lump that is Todoroki Touya. “You have been on Prozac for four days, Todoroki. They have recorded that you started skipping breakfast six days ago, the day after your privileges were revoked. Since you started the Prozac you stopped going to both breakfast and lunch, and yesterday you didn’t go to a single meal. Don’t blame it all on the medication.”

“Aren’t I innocent until proven guilty?” Touya mutters, curling his legs towards his chest.

“You’re not in court.” Aizawa retorts. “Please take this seriously, Todoroki. Do you want to end up handcuffed to a bed with a tube shoved down your nose to force feed you?”

“No.” Touya mumbles.

Aizawa sighs again, shifting in his seat. “You cannot refuse to eat because you got in trouble. You will be put back in psych if you don’t willingly go to dinner tonight.” He says. “I will have you spend the day here in the infirmary getting your banana bag through the IV and resting, but tonight you will go to dinner. We can stop the Prozac if it really is decreasing your appetite and giving you insomnia, but we will start you on something else for the anxiety and depression.”

“Hurray.” Touya deadpans.

“We will find the right drug combination for you.” Aizawa tries to assure him. “But you know it takes about a month for them to-“

The gunshots ring out then, and then the sounds of shouting and screaming come from the hallway. Aizawa and Chiyo turn wide eyed toward the door at the sounds of running footsteps. There is a small window on the door and they see people sprint past.

“What the fuck?” Touya pushes himself up with his forearm, looking toward the door.

Aizawa is too nervous to move, and Chiyo rolls her chair toward her desk and reaches for the phone. She lifts the receiver to her ear and taps in a certain extension, and her thin eyebrows furrow as the line rings and rings but no one answers.

Abruptly the door swings open, startling all three of them, and one of the correctional officers shoves his way inside while dragging along one of the inmates. Touya recognizes both of them- Takami Keigo often works in the psych ward and the alpha inmate with him is named Bubaigawara Jin and is a frequent flyer in the psych ward. Keigo shoves Jin into the infirmary and Jin goes sprawling across the floor before he gets on his hands and knees and scrambles over toward the corner near Chiyo’s desk.

Keigo slams the door shut and locks it, then leans his back against it as his chest heaves. His face is flushed pink as he harshly pants.

“What the hell is going on?” Aizawa asks as he stands from his chair.

Keigo’s wild eyes dart toward Aizawa but then toward Chiyo. “It’s a riot.” He tells them, his voice trembling. “They released Shigaraki from solitary and he started a riot. They took out two guards and have their guns, and it’s fucking chaos out there. Can you reach Warden Yagi? I think Sasaki managed to radio the omega facility and lock it down so the alphas can’t get in there, but we are going to struggle with regaining control here when they have guns.”

Chiyo taps away on her phone, and they’re all hold their breath in anticipation until she sighs with relief as she gets an answer. “Yagi-san!”

As Chiyo speaks with the warden, Aizawa looks at Jin curled up in a ball in the corner. “Bubaigawara? Are you injured?” Aizawa asks, slowly approaching him as if he is an injured animal.

“No.” Jin replies, but then contradicts himself and yells, “Yes!” He slaps his hands over his ears and squeezes his eyes shut.

Keigo slides down until he sits on the floor, back still to the door. “We were on our way to the cafeteria when the fight broke out. I don’t know how Shigaraki managed to gather so many inmates to his side so fast. They literally let him out an hour again.” Keigo looks toward Jin. “Everyone else in psych ran, but Bubaigawara stuck with me. We saw the guard get shot from down the hall, and I dragged Bubaigawara here with me. We could hear Shigaraki talking about rounding up the COs and taking over both sides of the prison. I really hope Sasaki got the omega facility shut down.”

Touya sits up in bed, glancing toward Jin. “Yo, Jin-kun!” He calls out to him.

Jin’s head snaps up, and he completely ignores Aizawa as he glances past him toward the hospital beds. “Touya-kun?” He says, momentarily snapping out of his episode. “I haven’t seen you in a month!”

“I was staying out of trouble until recently.” Touya tells him, trying to distract Jin from the situation that is stressing him out. “I might be joining you back in psych, though. When did you get sent back?”

“Two weeks ago.” Jin answers, slowly unfurling his legs. Jin left psych around the same time that Touya did, so it sounds as if he was barely back in general population before he went back to psych. “I tried splitting open my head again with a plastic knife.” He points his thumb as the cut down the center of his forehead that is mostly healed but adding another layer of scar tissue to his forehead.

“Yikes.” Touya replies, unfazed by the violence. “I got busted for smoking again, and this time they took my outside time and commissary funds.”

“Bastards!” Jin shouts, but then immediately calms down. “So are you more mad about losing your lighter or losing your socializing time with the alphas in the yard?”

Aizawa raises his eyebrows at that but Touya barks out a laugh. “Fuck you, Jin. I’m mad about the commissary more than anything. My Dad might have helped put me in prison, but he makes sure I have as much money as I can every month. Now that’s fucking gone and I can’t pay these other bitches off to leave me the fuck alone.”

Jin laughs, head bowed and shoulders shaking. “I bet your ass would be happy in solitary.” He remarks.

“Fuck no. I don’t wanna share a wall with a freak like baby Shigaraki.” Touya replies with a scoff. “I’d rather go back to psych.”

Jin exhales slowly, beginning to relax. He pushes himself to his feet and gives Chiyo an apologetic look for having invaded her space. He also glances at both Aizawa and Keigo before he walks toward the hospital beds.

“Oi! Remember personal space!” Keigo calls out to them as Jin sits at the end of Touya’s bed. “Do not make me tase either of you! We have enough stress with the riot.”

Touya rolls his eyes, but makes no move closer to Jin. It is the same rules as in psych where there are not many barriers between the alphas and omegas.

They are supposedly watched closely by the guards and security cameras to make sure nothing sexual happens, although it barely keeps stuff from still happening. Touya has lost count of the amount of alphas he has been with in the past year and a half since he transferred to this prison, all while he was supposed to be under supervision. Whether in the yard or in psych, the alphas will find a way to make sexual favors possible if Touya is willing. Keigo is most likely worried because he has in fact caught Touya and Jin in a compromising position before in psych, although it was a little over a year ago. Touya finds it a tad hypocritical, though, considering what he has also done with Keigo before.

“You sick?” Jin asks, eyeing the IV. “Withdrawals or something?”

Touya shakes his head. “Starving myself, according to the COs.” Touya tells him, holding out his arm for Jin to see where it is inserted in the crook of his arms. “I’m definitely not just nauseated because they took me off my old medication and put me on a new one. Nope. Can’t be that.”

Jin smirks at the sass, but then the sound of more running and another gunshot ring out from the hallway. Everyone in the room flinches again. They hear someone scream and then the sound of a body hitting the ground. Keigo jumps to his feet and peeks through the small square window that is barely the size of his head, and he curses beneath his breath and jerks away from the window.

“Is this bullet proof?” He asks, looking to Chiyo as he taps against the glass window.

“It should be.” Chiyo says, the phone still held to her ear. “Yagi-san said they have called for additional help. Did someone else get shot?”

Keigo peeks through the window again. “Yeah, but I can’t tell who it is because they’re face down.” He says, and his voice cracks. “Fuck. That’s a lot of blood. There’s already a puddle.”

There are more rapid footsteps, and Touya hears laughter from the hallway. Keigo ducks away from the window so he isn’t seen, but just a moment later the door handle rattles.

“Oi! Chiyo-san!” Someone calls out in a sing-song voice, barely holding back laughter.

“The drugs are kept in the infirmary, right?” Another voice asks from outside.

“Maybe in psych.” Some other inmate suggests.

The door handle rattles again and then someone pounds on the door. “Open up, you old bitch! We won’t hurt you! Just give us the key to the medicine cabinet!”

Chiyo does not seem the slightest bit worried as she glances to Keigo, but the corrections officer is visibly sweating.

Abruptly, all the power in the building goes off, and there are shouts of surprise from the hallway. Touya reaches for Jin, gripping his upper arm as they both stare at the door, worried it might have a power lock, but then the alarm begins blaring and the bright emergency lights turn on above the door, and all the emergency lights throughout the prison light up red.

“Get off the ground, you fucking idiots! There aren’t any guards around to make us prone out and go into lockdown!” One of the inmates outside shouts at the others, and Touya can guess that the others all dropped to the ground as is the standard protocol for inmates when the alarm sounds.

A voice crackles to life over the intercom, announcing that the prison is under lockdown and telling the inmates to return to their cells or else they risk additional time added to their sentences as well as further physical punishment. The message is repeated two more times, and then the intercom turns off. The alarm stops, but only the emergency power remains on.

“Bullshit!” One of the inmates in the hallway shouts toward the ceiling. “We are in charge now!”

“Where are the omegas?!” Someone else shouts, and his buddies laugh along with him.

Keigo gathers his courage and looks through the window. “Get back to your cells.” He tells the inmates. “You’re not getting into the medicine closet, and you’re not going to bother Chiyo anymore.”

“Eh?!” The inmates crowd closer to the window, squinting to see through the darkness.

“Oh, it’s little Takami!” An inmate crows in delight, and the others laugh.

“Aw, are you gonna tase us if we misbehave?” Another inmate taunts him.

“You see this, little alpha?” The first inmate says, tapping the side of his gun against the window. “You can’t do shit to us when I have this. If you come out of that room I’m shooting your ass and taking your damn keys to get into psych.”

“Get back to your cells.” Keigo repeats himself. “You’re going to get charged with attempted assault on an officer if you don’t.”

“Do you not see the dead CO right there?” The inmate asks, gesturing to the floor. “We are past ‘attempted’ anything.”

“Let us in and we might not kill you, little Takami!” The second inmate says to him. “Baby Shigaraki is hunting down all the COs, so we will put in a good word for you if you let us into the drugs closet!”

“You’re all insane if you think this will go in your favor after this all settles down.” Keigo tells them. “I already told you I’m not letting you in. Now fuck off back to your cells before they send the police into the prison to arrest all of your asses again.”

The inmate raises the gun and shoots at the glass, and Keigo violently flinches back at the sound of the gunshot. The bullet fractures the window but doesn’t completely break it. Touya and Jin also flinch, and Chiyo gasps while clutching the phone.

“Fuck you, Takami!” The inmate shouts and then shoots again. Keigo drops down onto the floor and covers his head, and Jin grabs Touya and climbs on top of him to protect him as the small window further breaks.

A fourth gunshots is all it takes to completely shatter the window, and an arm reaches through the now mostly glass-less window and tries to blindly find the deadbolt and the door handle.

Keigo does not hesitate to jump up and grab the arm, yanking the inmate against the door and making him cry out. He takes out his taser and jabs at the inmate’s bare hand, and the man screams as he is electrocuted. His arm disappears from the hole as he drops to the floor outside the door.

The gun comes through the hole next, firing wildly twice, and Jin shrieks in surprise as they hear the bullets whistle by. Keigo panics, but manages to smash the inmate’s hand against the side of the window, slicing it through their orange jumpsuit on the ridges of glass still there and making him drop the gun out of pain.

“Fuck!” The inmate screams.

“You dropped the gun?!”

“Shigaraki is gonna kill you!”

“Go! We gotta fucking go! We were never here! Takami always had a gun!”

There are multiple footsteps as the inmates run off, and Keigo slumps to the ground again, cradling the handgun on his lap. He flips the safety on and heaves a heavy sigh.

“Everyone okay?” Keigo calls out.

Aizawa is against the desk with Chiyo, having tried to protect her. Jin lifts himself up on his forearms and glances around, and Touya peeks out from beneath him.

“Oi! Personal space, Todoroki! Bubaigawara!” Keigo shouts at them.

“Really?! That’s what you care about right now?!” Touya shouts back to him, but Jin climbs off of him and they both sit up.

Keigo looks down at the gun in his hands and he quickly checks the amount of bullets still left in the magazine. “There’s nine bullets left.” He states.

“I thought guards weren’t allowed to carry guns.” Aizawa says, helping Chiyo back onto her chair.

“We have guns in a few select places like the dining room and guard towers. If an officer had a gun on them inside the prison, it’s because they felt the need to get a gun.” Keigo replies. “There’s not that many guns inside the prison, though. This is only supposed to be medium security, so we only have handguns, and I think there were five at max in this facility. We now have one of them.”

Aizawa glances toward the broken window in the infirmary door. “We should evacuate.” He states, his posture betraying his nerves.

Keigo continues to stare at the gun and he swallows thickly, but nods his head. “I think I can get the two of you out of here.” He says, looking to Chiyo and Aizawa. “I just need to bring Todoroki and Bubaigawara to psych. You guys will be safe in there if you keep the main door locked. I doubt the cells can lock with the power off like this.” He gestures to the emergency lighting.

“What the fuck? No! Take us out with you! I don’t want to be the only omega in here with these crazies!” Touya says, standing to his feet. He grabs at the IV stand so that it doesn’t tug on the insertion in his arm.

“You don’t have a choice in this, Todoroki.” Keigo says, locking eyes with him. “Stay in psych and you will be safe. Protocol for a lockdown is everyone goes back to their cell, and since we can’t get you back to the omega side then you’re going to your cell in psych.”

“This is bullshit, Takami!” Touya shouts at him, his entire body trembling as his low blood sugar and adrenaline rush crash together. “What if this takes longer than a day? What if they break into psych?”

“Then I’ll come back for you after I get them to safety first!” Keigo snaps back at him, his expression turning pleading. “Please, Touya, we don’t have time to waste! They could come back.”

Touya narrows his eyes, holding Keigo’s gaze for a long moment. “If you don’t come back….” He says, and the threat clear in his voice. He sees that Keigo understands, sees the way the alpha’s posture changes, and he knows that Keigo knows he will tell whoever will listen to him about what Keigo and Touya have gotten up to in the greenhouse.

“I’ll come back.” Keigo tries to reassure him. “Just trust me and come on. We need to go.”

Chapter 2

Notes:

This one is short, but I should have another chapter ready later today.

Chapter Text

Touya is pissed, to mildly put it. Keigo slams the cell door shut in his face, but is unable to lock it. He gives Jin the same treatment, and then he locks the door to psych behind him and leaves them alone. Touya sits on his bunk for all of two minutes in the silence before he gets up and pushes open his door.

“Jin?” He calls out, knowing which cell they usually put him in. He goes down three doors and knocks on the cell door.

“Enter!” Jin calls out, but then shouts, “I don’t want to get in trouble!”

Touya pushes the door open easily and finds Jin curled up on a blanket beneath his bunk rather than on it. “There aren’t any COs around to get us in trouble.” He tells the alpha, bending over to look at Jin. “Comfortable down there?”

“No!” Jin shouts, but then adds more softly, “It’s nice, I guess.”

Touya drops down onto his haunches to be on the same level as the alpha. “I used to make my nest under my bed when I was a kid.” He tells him. “Sometimes it just felt safer underneath.”

“I’m not any good at making a nest.” Jin murmurs, stroking a part of the blanket with his thumb. “They only give alphas one blanket. Can’t make a nest with only one blanket.”

Touya frowns at that. “Yeah, they give the omegas two blankets, but we can buy more nesting stuff at the commissary.” He says. “I think I have almost a dozen blankets, to be honest, and multiple pillows. I’m a nester, though. The reason why I hate coming to psych is because they don’t let me bring my nest.”

“Bastards.” Jin grumbles, bringing the blanket close to his cheek and nuzzling the softness.

The smell of Jin’s scent is thick in the cell, and Touya feels comfortable surrounded by it. “I hope this all blows over soon.” He says. “I’m stressing out and miss my nest. Fuck Tomura for starting shit. They should have left his crazy ass in solitary another week.”

“Shigaraki can be nice.” Jin mumbles, eyes shut as he self soothingly nuzzles the blanket. “He cares a lot about all of us here in psych. He doesn’t want us getting mistreated and sent to solitary.”

Touya clicks his tongue, because he knows Jin is right about that. “Well, he’s gonna get sent to max for this. We probably won’t see him again.” He tells the alpha. “Doesn’t matter how much he cares when he started a damn riot that got someone killed already. I don’t feel particularly cared for by him right now.”

Jin opens his eyes and looks at Touya. “You’re in danger.” He states the fact.

Touya sighs through his nose. “I know.” He says. “This side of the clink is full of horny bastards, and if they can’t get into the omega side then my ass is about to be highly sought after. It’s best that we hide out here and hope Takami comes back for us.”

Jin frowns, and he climbs out from beneath the bunk. He looks back at his very meager nest and then back to Touya. “Maybe they have more blankets we can steal behind the guard station.” He suggests. “We can make a bigger nest, and I’ll protect you.”

Touya smiles at that, touched by Jin’s thoughtfulness and care. “Thanks, Jin.” He genuinely says, and looks toward the cell door. “You know, this would be my one chance to actually meet up with one of my wannabe alphas, but I’m not risking being caught by some psycho.”

Jin cracks a smile. “Still talking to the yakuza boss in the kennels everyday?”

“When I’m not in psych and have my privileges, yeah. Been a couple weeks, though.” Touya says and stands up. He stretches his arms above his head and cracks his back. “Goddamn, I would kill for a cigarette.”

Jin joins Touya’s side and he cautiously peeks out of the cell and toward the main door that leads into the rest of the prison. “If you want, I could go get you one.” He tells him. “I’m hungry anyways, and I doubt anyone involved in the riot would want anything to do with me.”

Touya motions for Jin to follow him as he steps out into the hallway and goes toward the glass encased guard station. Jin obediently follows him. “I’m not gonna ask you to put yourself at risk for getting into trouble, Jin.” He says. “Not for a cigarette.”

“I’m starving, though.” Jin says, trailing after him. “This could take all night! I don’t wanna go hungry for that long.”

Touya cannot relate since he has barely eaten in days. “Then, sure. If you’re gonna go out anyways, see if you can get me a cigarette and lighter.” He reaches the guard station, but the door is locked. He rattles it loudly and then clicks his tongue. “This glass is probably bullet proof too.” He mutters, but bends over to take a closer look at the lock. “It’s just a simple doorknob lock. I could probably pick it, but I don’t have any of the shit for that. They took my damn hair clips the last time I went to psych and never gave them back, but I bet one of those and a bobby pin could work on this.” He mutters to himself. “This is too much damn effort for blankets. So much for making a nest.”

Jin also pouts. “What are we going to do?!”

Touya shrugs, genuinely clueless as to what their next move should be. “Suffer, I guess.” He bluntly replies. “This is all so stupid. Tomura is just ruining it for the rest of us. The COs are going to be such hard asses even after Tomura and those other idiots get thrown into max. My only hope is we are lucky and Shigaraki Zen also does something stupid and gets sent to max with them.” He turns to look at Jin. “Be careful if you’re going out there, Jin. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”

“I’ll be careful!” Jin replies and gives him two thumbs up.

Touya doesn’t really think before he acts. He reaches forward and rubs his wrist against Jin’s neck, scenting him with his suppressant reduced scent. Jin goes wide eyed, but doesn’t push Touya away. The omega takes it another step further and bounces on his toes to briefly peck Jin on the lips.

“There. For good luck.” He tells Jin, and he softly smiles. “Bring me back something to drink, yeah? Whatever you can find. I’m not picky about drinks.”

Jin suddenly grins at him, full of energy from the affection. “I’ll be right back!” He promises.

Chapter Text

Jin is gone for hours, and Touya spends the time snooping through other people’s things in the psych ward without any locks to prevent him from doing so. He finds absolutely no contraband, which is pretty typical for the psych ward since they are much more thoroughly searched than in their regular cells.

There is a common room in the psych ward with a small bookshelf and a television set, but without power Touya cannot watch tv or even properly read with the terrible lighting from the emergency lights. The windows have that frosted film on them that is meant for privacy but is just a hindrance to Touya’s dreams of reading with the amount of lighting that it doesn’t allow to trickle into the ward.

After a couple hours, he just wanders aimlessly around the ward and hopes that Jin is okay and that everything is being resolved. He only has seven months left in prison, and he doesn’t want something like this to mess with his release date, or worse. If he dies because of this then he is going to come back as a pissed ghost to haunt Tomura for the entirety of the life sentence he no doubt will be getting in maximum security.

A few times he hears footsteps in the hallway leading past the psych ward, and after some time Touya just sits against the locked door and patiently waits and listens for Jin’s return. Every time he hears footsteps he tenses, but they always pass without stopping. He wonders if the other psych ward inmates will come back soon, but he doubts it. Everyone keeps their regular cell when they get sent to psych, and Touya would undoubtedly return to his own cell rather than his psych ward cell in this situation if he could. Jin is just the one weirdo who spends more time in psych than anywhere else and it probably feels more like home to him than his regular general population cell.

It is late afternoon and Touya is half asleep when he hears footsteps again, and he jolts himself awake when he hears them rapidly rushing down the hallway. He hasn’t heard shouting or gunshots in hours, but he doesn’t doubt it will take the smallest thing to start another problem.

Rapid pounding bangs on the door to the psych ward, and Touya scrambles away backwards, staring wide eyed at it as his heart leaps into his throat.

“Touya-kun! Open up!”

He recognizes Jin’s voice and sags with relief for a moment, but then clambers to his feet and unlocks the door by lifting the heavy manual latch. The door squeaks as it opens, and Touya stares at Jin.

“Can you not shout my name? I know I’m not the only Touya, but I am the Touya who ends up in the psych ward the most.” Touya bemusedly says to the alpha.

“We gotta go!” Jin tells him, grabbing him by the forearm. The alpha is in a panicked state.

Touya goes wide eyed as Jin easily pulls him out of the ward with his alpha strength. “Whoa! Fuck, no, Jin! What the actual fuck? I’m not safe out here!” He exclaims in a harsh whisper, glancing around wildly for anyone else.

“They have the keys, Touya!” Jin tells him, wild eyed. “I heard- I heard the Shigaraki’s talking! They have keys to everything in this side of the prison. Most of the staff has been evacuated and they’re evacuating the omegas from the other side of the prison, but I found a good hiding spot for you! I promise!”

Touya still resists as Jin tries to drag him along. He really likes Jin, but he is very aware of how paranoid and insane the alpha also is. “Where the hell are we going? I don’t know this side of the prison, Jin! I know the psych ward and the infirmary and that’s it!”

Jin reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a ring of keys. “Look!” He shows the omega. “There are only two sets of keys! The Shigaraki’s have the other set, but I stole this second set while they were in the cafeteria! The prison is dividing into factions already. The Shigaraki’s have two guns and a set of keys and are taking over the cell blocks, the yakuza have two guns and have taken over the library and the yard, and that orange haired creep Yotsubashi has taken over the front of the prison. The only places considered neutral ground are the commissary and the showers, and I have these keys so we can hide in the commissary! We can padlock the door so that the Shigaraki’s can’t get in, too! It has a small bathroom and a private storage room attached!”

“They will go to the commissary when they start getting hungry, Jin! The kitchen only keeps enough for a week! There’s weekly deliveries, and it’s Wednesday! Deliveries are on Saturdays!” Touya reminds the alpha. There’s no way the riot will last that long, right? But he worries about it anyways. He wants to be prepared for all possibilities so that he can survive this mess.

“I’m sure the police will come for you by then!” Jin tries to assure him, still tugging on his hand. “Let’s go! Hurry! The halls were clear when I came this way, but I don’t know where everyone is! We need to run!”

Touya is not completely sure that he can run much with how lightheaded he has gotten from not eating, but it seems as if he has no choice. He cannot stay in psych because either Shigaraki Zen or Shigaraki Tomura or maybe even some of their lackeys might come for psych sooner than later. They can’t wait for Keigo to come save him, and he has to run or else he will be caught by the Shigaraki’s and who knows what will happen after that.

“Okay.” Touya hesitantly says, and Jin tightens his grip on Touya’s wrist and they take off in a sprint. Touya has no idea where they are going, but he tries to keep pace with the larger and faster alpha inmate.

They sprint past an entrance to a cell block, and before they can even turn the corner Touya hears whistling.

“Oi! Was that a fucking omega?”

“The omega unit is locked, idiot!”

“I just saw someone run by in a blue jumpsuit!”

Jin tightens his grip on Touya’s wrist, and Touya winces, knowing that will leave bruises hidden beneath his tattoos. He barely feels the pain, focused entirely on keeping up with Jin and not tripping over his own feet. His heartbeat pounds in his ears, adrenaline surging and making him feel woozy.

“This way!” Jin pulls Touya down a different hallway, past the bathrooms where a couple of men are walking out. Jin roughly shoulder checks the one alpha that accidentally steps in their way.

“What the fuck, Bubaigawara?!”

“Holy shit! Why does he have an omega?”

“Huh?! An omega?!”

Touya chances a glance back as they continue their run, and he sees more people coming out of the bathrooms as more attention is called to him. He sees the orange jumpsuits of alpha inmates and the tan jumpsuits of beta inmates, and all of them glance around for the aforementioned omega.

Luckily, the rest of the way to the commissary is clear, but Touya hears the clamoring of voices from the hallway behind them as they are followed. He hears yelling and even whistling and catcalling as more and more of the men realize that an omega is amongst them somewhere in the prison.

Touya and Jin reach the locked door to the commissary, and Touya notes that the security shade is pulled down behind the bullet proof glass and he cannot see inside. Jin fiddles with the keys.

“Fuck, I think it was this one or this one.” Jin mutters, shoving a key into the lock but being unable to twist it.

Touya turns his back to Jin, watching the hallway leading down to the commissary. He hears people, but doesn’t see them yet. “Hurry the fuck up, Jin!” Touya snaps at him, beginning to panic as the seconds tick by.

“I am!” Jin replies, also panicking as he shoves another key into the lock but it also doesn’t twist. “Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” He pulls out that key and tries the next. “Fucking finally!” He exclaims as it twists and the door clicks unlocked. He yanks the key out and grabs Touya just as the other inmates round the corner and pour into the hallway.

“Where you going, sweetheart?!”

“Bubaigawara! Introduce us to your friend!”

“You can’t keep him for yourself, Bubaigawara!”

Jin yanks Touya into the commissary and quickly closes and locks the door. The door is built like a cell door with a heavy deadbolt that can slid into place, and Jin makes sure it is in place before he rushes over to the many shelves of food and random items that the inmates are allowed to have.

Touya leans against the door and slides down to the floor, chest heaving as he tries to catch his breath while black spots cloud his vision. He is trembling, especially as he hears the sounds of catcalling coming closer until they are just on the other side of the door. They pound on the metal door, jingling the handle but unable to open it. There is no window for them to peek through or shoot through, and the metal door is bulletproof.

“Open the door, Bubaigawara!”

“Someone get one of the Shigaraki’s! They have a set of keys!”

“You can’t hide forever, bitch!”

“Come on out, little omega!”

“We don’t bite!” Someone exclaims, which elicits laughter from many of the others.

Jin rushes back over to the door with a padlock in hand, and he clamps it into place so that even if it is unlocked it cannot be opened. Once it is in place, he tries to pull Touya away from the door but the omega has become deadweight as his dizziness overpowers his ability to stand.

“Come on!” Jin does not hesitate to gather Touya into his arms and carry him bridal style over to the storage room. He kicks the door open, and inside there are shelves and crates full of extra products, but it is mostly empty of anything else besides some folded up cardboard boxes being the door. “Just relax here, okay? There’s blankets and pillows in the commissary. I’ll bring you some.”

As soon as Jin disappears again, Touya curls up on his side on the floor, allowing the cold tile agaisnt his cheek to distract him and calm him down. The bite of the cold makes him focus on that rather than the ruckus outside the door that has also spread to them banging on the bulletproof glass of the sale window.

Jin is very concerned when he returns to find Touya practically facedown on the floor, and he quickly helps him sit up. “Don’t pass out on me.” He begs, propping Touya up with the two pillows he brought from the other room.

“These are nice.” Touya mumbles, leaning against one pillow and pulling the other to his chest to hug.

Jin rushes out of the storage room but then swiftly returns with several rolled up blankets beneath his arms. He shakes them out and drapes them around Touya in a half assed nest, but immediately Touya begins moving the pillows and blankets around to make a more comfortable nest. He meticulously scents everything, and he gestures for Jin to join him.

Jin drops down cross legged in the nest, and Touya does not hesitate to cuddle up to him and seek comfort in the alpha. They can still hear the shouting and banging on the window and door, but they ignore it. Touya focuses on Jin- the smell of his scent and the strength of his body as the alpha’s arms wrap around him. He tries to convince himself that he is safe.

The alphas seem to tire themselves out after about ten minutes, and by then Touya feels a little better. Jin goes to fetch him a sports drink, and Touya slowly sips at it to not accidentally upset his weak stomach.

“I think they got bored.” Jin remarks as the banging and threats have finally stopped.

Jin leans against the wall and Touya leans against Jin’s chest, closing his eyes as the alpha plays with his hair. “Thanks for saving me, Jin.” He murmurs to him.

“I won’t let them touch you.” Jin promises the omega.

After a few more minutes of resting after their ordeal, Touya feels well enough to crawl out of his new nest and Jin dutifully follows him into the commissary. Touya begins rummaging around, looking to see what all the larger side of the prison has compared to the omega side. The snacks and drinks appear to be mostly the same stuff, but there are some more items that Touya knows they don’t have in the omega commissary.

“You guys can have razors with multiple blades? This is bullshit.” Touya says, dumping the box of razors onto the sale counter. “Four blades? Do they think alphas just have tougher hair or something? Fuck this. I haven’t shaved in over a month because the last time I did I got the worst razor rash. I’m making a shiv with one of these just to be spiteful and prove them right.” Touya declares, which makes Jin laugh.

“And you guys get tape?!” Touya continues rummaging through the many shelves. He goes to the shelf with the hygiene products and riffles through everything available besides the razors. He grabs a tube of deodorant and uncaps it to smell it. “And you guys get the good deodorant! This is really some sexist bullshit. We get that off brand shit, and I swear it’s the worst thing I have ever put on my skin. It barely works and the omega ward always smells ripe.”

He continues around the commissary, getting excited over every new find. Jin hops up to sit on the counter, smiling as he watches Touya wander between shelves.

“I’m restricted from having anything that can cause fires.” He tells Jin as he grabs a pack of batteries and a pack of gum. “Do you know you can make a fire with AA batteries and tin foil gum wrappers?”

Jin raises his eyebrows and goes wide eyed. “Are we starting a fire?” He asks.

“Not now. Maybe later.” Touya replies with a noncommittal shrug, pocketing the batteries and the pack of gum.

He sorts through the clothing items for sale, his nose wrinkling as he cannot find his size. “Why is there nothing under a size large? There are obviously small alphas. Look at fucking Takami. I bet he wears a medium at most.”

Jin snorts at the jab at the corrections officer. “Most of the guys in here are pretty big.”

Touya finds a large white sweatshirt and pulls it over his head anyways. Being so weak has him easily cold, and it is winter outside. With only emergency power the prison will grow cold eventually, and Touya is already cold enough. He will layer up as he needs to.

Touya also finds pair of sunglasses, and without hesitation puts a plain black pair of them onto his face. The room is far too dark with only the emergency light above the door illuminating the area, so Touya pushes the sunglasses back on top of his head.

A ruckus comes from the hallway outside the commissary, the sound of loud voices returning. Touya rolls his eyes and turns toward the basket full of towels for sale, and he rubs his thumb over the fabric as he grabs one.

“This is so soft, too! What the fuck, this is so unfair.” He exclaims, and he drapes the towel around his neck as if he is about to go off to shower. “Our towels are rough as hell so that we don’t nest with them.”

“Are you going to add that to your nest?” Jin asks with a knowing smile.

“Of course I am!” Touya replies with a scoff. He turns toward the shelf with the over the counter medication for sale. “You guys get cough syrup?! Like a whole bottle? I used to steal this shit when I was a kid. We can get high off this.” He considers pocketing a whole bottle of the medicine.

A loud banging rattles the bulletproof window and Touya startles and turns to glare at it. “Fuck off!” He screams, pissed that he was scared by the noise.

“Open the damn shutter!” A familiar raspy voice shouts in their alpha tone.

Touya heaves a sigh and rolls his eyes toward the ceiling. “I said to fuck off, Tomura!” He shouts back. “Your damn alpha tone doesn’t work on me, asshole! Go suck a dick!”

“Who the fuck is this?” Tomura asks someone near him in his regular voice, sounding confused at being addressed by his given name so casually.

Touya heaves another sigh and exchanges a bemused look with Jin before he walks over to the sale counter. There’s no way for him to be hurt through the glass, even with the sliding door that is used to pass items back and forth. It is latched shut from the inside of the commissary.

Touya grabs the metal shutter and lifts it, pushing it all the way to the top of the window where it latches in place. He is greeted by the sight of Tomura flanked by a few of his usual lackeys, but there are a bunch of curious inmates behind him trying to get a peek at the omega in the commissary.

“What the hell? Touya?” Tomura says, eyebrows furrowed. “Were you in psych?”

“In the infirmary, actually.” Touya replies, gripping both ends of the towel draped around his shoulders. “Thanks for ruining my day by starting a riot. I love having to dodge bullets and run for my life from wannabe murderers and rapists while I’m sick.”

Tomura glances behind Touya, but cannot see Jin from where he is hiding behind a shelf. “How the hell did you get in there? It was locked.”

“It’s a mystery.” Touya replies with a shrug, and he revels in the way that Tomura scowls at him. “I feel pretty safe in here, though. None of you idiots have broken in yet.”

“I have keys.” Tomura states, locking eyes with Touya.

“Is that supposed to be a threat?” Touya asks him with a roll of his eyes. “I’m not afraid of you, Tomura. I padlocked the door from the inside. Your keys can’t help you with that lock, and your gun can’t help you with this glass.” Touya reaches forward and knocks his knuckle against the glass that is much thicker than the window in the infirmary.”

Tomura narrows his eyes. “I wanted control of the commissary.” He says, petulantly.

“Too bad. It’s mine.” Touya taunts, and he lazily leans forward with his forearms on the counter. “If you’re really nice and ask politely then I might give you some stuff.”

“You don’t have to hide in there, Touya.” Tomura tells him, changing tactics. “You can come with me and I could keep you safe.”

“I’ll pass on that offer, as I’ve heard you’re working with your adopted daddy already.” Touya says, drumming his fingers on the countertop. “You will say anything to get the commissary, and once I’m out of here I know that Zen will easily go back on your word since he wasn’t the one to make promises of safety, and I’m not eager to get passed around as the community sex doll.”

“You’re a friend, Touya. I wouldn’t let him do that.” Tomura tries to assure him. “I wouldn’t let anyone touch you.”

Touya raises his eyebrows. “You and your gun against a hundred horny alphas?” He asks him. “You have like max fifteen bullets, Tomura.”

“I have two guns.” Tomura tells him.

“No, you have one.” Touya says, holding eye contact with the alpha. “Some of your idiots lost your second to Takami and just haven’t told you yet.”

Tomura goes wide eyed at that. “What?”

Touya shrugs again and then sighs. “I don’t imagine this riot lasting long, Tomura. It was nice knowing you before you got sent to max.” He says. “I’m going to ride this shit show out in here, where I’m safe. If you get hungry, just come knock on the glass and I’ll give you a snack, okay?” Touya stands upright and reaches for the shutter.

“Wait!” Tomura exclaims, and Touya pauses and looks at him. “What if you just let me in the commissary?”

Touya scoffs at that suggestion. “I’m not stupid, Tomura. You care more about your little riot than me.” He says. “If I let you in here then you’re going to easily be able to overpower me and take my keys and take over the whole commissary.”

“You have keys?” Tomura furrows his eyebrows again.

“Yup.” Touya tells him, his expression bored. “You can fuck off now, yeah? I’ll see you later if you need anything to eat, but I was in the middle of building a nest when you interrupted.”

“Wait!” Tomura shouts again as Touya tries to lower the shutter.

Touya heaves a sigh, holding up the shutter. “What?” He snaps at him.

Tomura clenches his jaw for a second. “Last time in psych, I heard you and Jin talking. You’re fucking with someone in the yakuza, aren’t you?”

Touya rolls his eyes. “Goddamn eavesdropper.” He insults the alpha. “Are you trying to manipulate me into giving you what you want by threatening him? You’re dumb as fuck if you try that, Tomura. Even Zen wouldn’t mess with the yakuza.”

“We have the prison locked down and we have COs as hostages. It could be days before the police get in here.” Tomura tells him, eyes narrowing at Touya insulting him. “I know the omegas are given suppressants daily, and I would bet you don’t have any spare pills on you. If this ‘shit show’ as you put it lasts more than a day then you’re going into heat.”

“What’s your point?” Touya bluntly asks, giving him a deadpan look. “If you’re offering your stud services, then I’m going to politely decline. I’ve ridden that ride before, and I’m not interested.”

“I won’t let anyone else near the commissary.” Tomura replies, leaning forward on the counter. “Do you want to spend your heat in here suffering while we keep trying to break into the commissary?”

Touya barks out a laugh at his threat. “That’s the stupidest plan, Tomura. Get the fuck out of here. Everyone around you knows I’m the omega now, and I’m guessing by morning the yakuza will make their way over here after hearing it’s me in the commissary.” He tells the alpha. “Maybe then I’ll let Chisaki in and his gang can have the commissary. I heard others have guns, too. You’re not the boss in here, Tomura, but I’m starting to think whoever takes over the commissary while having a gun will be in charge. I think Zen would also advise you to be nicer to me since I seem to have a bit more power at the moment.”

He slams the shutter down in the alpha’s face, and immediately Tomura begins shouting at him demanding to open it again while banging his fist on the window and making it rattle loudly.

Touya turns to see Jin peeking at him from around the shelving unit. “Fuck, he’s noisy.” He remarks, and glances toward the shelf that Jin hides behind. He spies containers of chips and candy there. “Wanna grab some snacks and go hide until he wears himself out?”

Jin hesitates to move. “Are you really going to let the yakuza in here?” He asks him, not keen on the idea.

“Huh? Probably not, Jin.” Touya replies with a shrug of his shoulders. “I mean, yeah, I think my yakuza boss lover boy would protect me, but I don’t trust he wouldn’t use me for the commissary. He also wouldn’t be happy about you hiding out with me, and I’m not risking your life after you saved me, Jin.”

The tension in Jin’s shoulders eases. “Yeah. Right.” He says, but then exclaims, “Don’t screw me over, Touya!”

Touya cracks a smile, tugging the towel off his shoulders. “Don’t worry about it, Jin. I owe you for saving me, and you’re my friend.” He tells the alpha. “Besides, I don’t need Chisaki when I’ve got you if I go into heat, yeah?”

Jin straightens up at that, going wide eyed at the implication. “Oh-! Yeah! Yes! Absolutely!” He proclaims, and Touya chuckles as Jin looks like an overly excited puppy. The alpha rushes over to him, and Touya hops up onto the countertop and wraps his legs around Jin’s hips as he comes to stand between his spread legs. ”I’ll take care of you!”

Chapter Text

Night falls and the prison goes dark, illuminated only by the red lights in the hallways and the bright white emergency exit lights above certain doors. Besides the occasional shout or sound of running, Touya does not hear much from the hallway for several hours.

He snacks on some chips to get his strength up, realizing that Tomura is correct and he will most likely be going into heat very soon since he didn’t take his suppressants earlier that day either. He never has an appetite during his heat, and he will no doubt be half starved by the end of it if he doesn’t at least snack now and try to get some calories in him.

They find a shogi board amongst the random things in the commissary, and Touya wastes a couple hours trying to teach Jin how to play before ultimately giving up. He curls up in his nest while Jin begins sorting through some of the things in the storage bins beneath their meager light.

Touya is startled out of his nap by the sound of a gunshot and screaming and running, and he bolts upright in his nest. He pulls one of his blankets around his shoulders as the sound of chaos in the halls continues, and he peeks his head out of the storage room when he hears a rattling sound.

He spies Jin slightly lifting the metal shutter to see outside the commissary. “Do you see anything?” He asks, making Jin startle and drop the shutter with a loud bang.

Jin whirls around to look at the omega with wide eyes. “There’s some people ducking down and hiding in the hallway.” He answers. “That didn’t sound far away, though.”

“I knew it would get crazy when it got dark.” Touya remarks, standing to his feet and shuffling over to Jin.

Another gunshot rings out, and then more screaming and shouting. Some doors slam shut, the sound of metal clanging against metal as people dart into random rooms to hide.

One more gunshot and then there is the sound of someone running down the hallway quickly toward the commissary. They run past the front sale counter and around to the side door, fists pounding fast on the metal door. “Bubaigawara! Todoroki! Let me in!”

Touya goes wide eyed as he recognizes Keigo’s voice, and he doesn’t hesitate to rush over to the door and remove the padlock and unlock it. Jin is right behind him, anxiously glancing toward the shuttered window as he hears the distant sounds of other inmates approaching. Touya wrenches the heavy door open and Keigo half falls half stumbles into the room, but Touya doesn’t have the chance to check on him as he needs to slam the door shut to lock and then padlock it.

His heartbeat is pounding loud in his ears as he turns to stare owlishly at Keigo who is sprawled out on his back with his hand clutching at his shirt over his heart. Jin squats down next to him, eyebrows furrowed as he looks the other alpha up and down.

“You all right, buddy?” Jin asks the guard. “You look like you have been through hell.”

Keigo is missing his usual uniform top, the long sleeved button down and his badge both gone, leaving him in just his white undershirt that is half soaked in stress sweat. He still has his utility belt, although his baton is also missing.

Keigo struggles to catch his breath, but he squints his eyes open at Jin leaning over him. “Hey, there, pal. Thanks for letting me in.” He says.

“I let you in, asshole.” Touya speaks up, but rather than going over to Keigo he goes toward the shutter. He can hear loud voices, and he suspects they are looking for the guard. “Were you chased here?”

“Uh…. Yeah. Kinda. They saw me and I ran.” Keigo says, and huffs out a laugh as if it was a funny experience. “But! I came back like I said! I’m glad you didn’t stay in psych, though. This place seems much safer.” He pushes himself upright with a grunt and a wince, and Jin stands then offers his hand to Keigo to help him to his feet. Jin helps dust off Keigo’s back.

Touya doesn’t know whether to be relieved or not yet. “Do you still have the gun?” He asks him.

“Uh, yeah.” Keigo admits, still breathless. He reaches toward his hip and unclips the handgun from his belt. “Only ten bullets left. The Shigaraki’s had a whole blockade setup to keep people from coming this way, but some other group was coming to confront them. I didn’t stick around for long when they started shooting and I finally could run this way to get to you two.” He sheepishly rubs at the back of his neck. “I’m sorry, Touya. You were right about them going crazy about you being here. The omegas have all been evacuated and you’re the only one left in the prison, and everyone knows that.”

Touya sneers his nose, but isn’t surprised. “Yeah, thanks for that, asshole. You should have gotten me out with the rest of the staff.” He snaps at him.

Keigo glances away with a guilty look on his face. “It was protocol. I’m sorry.” He replies.

“Oh, and what’s the protocol now?” Touya asks, his tone mocking and taunting. “Does your boss have a plan?”

Keigo reaches a hand toward the silent walkie talkie at his hip. “I don’t know. I never left the prison, so I’m not sure what’s happening outside.” He answers, honestly. “But you’re my priority now, Touya. I’ll protect you.”

Touya cannot help but roll his eyes, as touching as the statement is to him. “Great. Join the alpha protectors party with Jin.” He says, gesturing at the other alpha. “So now that you’re here and everyone suspects you’re here, what do we do?”

“Lay low until they send in reinforcements.” Keigo instantly has an answer for him. “The door is locked and I have a gun. The two of you are safe with me, and we just need to wait it out.”

A knock comes on the bulletproof glass, and all three of them jolt and whirl around to stare at the shutter, but now Touya can clearly hear the sounds of inmates in the hallway. Whatever shootout was happening seems to have stopped.

Touya exchanges glances with Jin and then motions for them to hide. Keigo’s eyebrows furrow as Jin grabs him by the arm and pulls him down to duck beneath the countertop under the shuttered window. Some people might know that Jin is with him and they might also suspect that Keigo came this way, but Touya doesn’t want that being confirmed and becoming common knowledge. He wants Jin to be able to live a normal life in prison after the fallout of the riot, and he doesn’t want Keigo getting in trouble or hurt either. He quite likes the guard, despite the way that he treats the alpha sometimes.

Touya hears impatient voices whispering just outside the shuttered window. He clutches his blanket tightly around his shoulders and exhales his anxiety, knowing he needs to prepare himself for whoever is going to make an attempt next to get into the commissary. He allows a few more seconds to pass as he steels himself before he grabs the shutter and heaves it up and to the top.

Coming face to face with his favorite yakuza boss is not entirely unexpected, but his eyes still widen for a second before he calms himself down. He glances at the other more unfamiliar faces behind him. Many of them are just in their tank tops with the sleeves of their jumpsuits tied around their waists, the tattoos on their arms and shoulders proudly displaying they are yakuza.

“You’re interrupting my beauty sleep. How may I help you?” Touya says to him, playing nonchalant.

Chisaki Kai wears a disposable face mask and gloves, and he is the only one of the men in his group who wears the short sleeved version of his jumpsuit properly with a white long sleeved shirt beneath it.

“I heard you told off Shigaraki.” Kai remarks, and Touya feels butterflies in his belly because Kai is only separated from him by the glass rather than the cage of the kennels outside in the yard. “He tried to barricade us from getting here.”

“If you have come just to ask for my set of keys and the commissary, then I’m going to tell you off, too.” Touya bluntly tells him, a warning in his tone. “I’m safe here, and you shouldn’t jeopardize your impending release from prison just for a power grab during a riot.”

“I just came to see you.” Kai replies, unbothered by Touya’s tone, although the men behind him seem offended on behalf of their boss. “I wanted to make sure you were safe and that no one is bothering you.”

“Plenty of people keep trying to bother me.” Touya tells him, and he leans forward on the countertop. “I was chased all the way here to the commissary, but no one can really bother me now. I can always slam the shutter down in their faces.”

“Did you recognize anyone who has been bothering you?” Kai asks him.

Touya raises his eyebrows, realizing that Kai is offering to kill anyone who bothered him on his behalf. It sends a thrill through him, which he blames on his lack of suppressants affecting his hormone output. “No. The shutter was down when the alphas were all yelling what they would like to do to me. I didn’t see anyone I recognize and they all sounded the same to me.”

Kai’s eyebrows pull together for a moment and he hums. “Was Tomura one of them?”

Touya shakes his head. “He was just pissed I wouldn’t let him in.” He says with a roll of his eyes. “Tomura was really pissing me off, though. He knew you would come for me and that why he setup that barricade.”

“Oh, just for me?” Kai asks, bemused.

“Yeah, and he threatened me because I don’t have suppressants, so if this whole riot thing last longer than tomorrow morning then I might be going into heat sooner than later. Been a while, you know? They don’t let us have heats but once a year, and I think my last one was almost a year ago.” Touya says, pursing his lips in a pout for a moment. “I’m not looking forward to that. Alphas trying to kick my door down while I’m in heat? That sounds like a nightmare.”

“Don’t worry about that. No one will bother you.” Kai tells him. “We will keep the Shigaraki’s from coming here again. They just lost a man trying to keep us away, so Shigaraki Tomura is off licking his wounds anyways.”

Touya locks eyes with Kai. “Don’t do anything stupid that will get you in trouble, alpha.” He says, very aware of Keigo hiding by his legs and no doubt listening in.

“I haven’t touched a gun once.” Kai informs him. “If any of my friends here happen to have a gun and shoot someone then that’s not my fault. They’re just being protective.”

Touya barks out a laugh at that. “Well, thank you for the offer of protection. I really appreciate it.” He says. “But I’m well aware that people don’t offer shit like that without a catch, so what is it? I’m serious about not handing over the keys or the commissary. I’m safer in here than I would be out there with you since so many psychos have guns.”

“I protect my own.” Kai simply replies to him, and Touya almost kicks his feet excitedly as he stays leaning forward on his forearms. “Like you said, I shouldn’t jeopardize my impending freedom. I would appreciate your help since the Shigaraki’s have control of the cafeteria and aren’t letting anyone eat unless they join their ‘gang’ as Tomura calls it.” Kai rolls his eyes. “That idiot really wants to get sent to max. He’s going to cause a different kind of riot and it will be directed at him if he thinks he can starve people to get them to obey him. I’m surprised Zen is letting him do something as stupid as that.”

Touya clicks his tongue and looks toward the shelves behind him. There is plenty of stuff to eat, and some of it would even need to be heated in a microwave which they cannot use with the main power out. “How many people do you want to feed?” Touya looks back to Kai. “There’s a fridge in here that I haven’t opened since the power is out. I could give you all of that so that it gets eaten before it goes bad. If you start a fire you can heat some of the stuff up since the kitchen is off limits to you guys.”

“Whatever you are willing to give us.” Kai tells him.

Touya looks at the fridge with a sigh. “This will take forever to push through this little slot.” He remarks, fiddling with the slotted hatch door meant for passing items back and forth. “I have a box I could fill and pass to you through the door, but I need some reassurance that you and your guys won’t try anything.”

Keigo aggressively pokes Touya’s thigh, informing him that he does not approve of this idea. Touya ignores him.

Kai’s eyebrows twitch together for a second. “What do you suggest I do to prove you can trust me?”

Touya glances to the other yakuza members then back to Kai, turquoise eyes meeting gold. “Pass me the gun through this.” He taps on the slot. “Give me the gun, we do business at the door, and then I pass the gun back to you through the slot.”

The other yakuza members exchange glances, unsure of the heavy demand.

“How are you going to pass me a box while holding a gun?” Kai questions him, his eyes not once leaving Touya’s gaze.

Touya raises his eyebrows as Kai pokes holes in his plan. “I won’t hand you the box. Jin-kun will.” He decides to say.

At the sound of his name, Jin pops up and slams the top of his head against the underside of the counter. Keigo slaps a hand over his mouth to keep from snorting aloud in surprised amusement, and Jin mutters a curse as he slowly pulls himself out from his hiding spot and rubs his head while standing beside Touya.

“As you can see, I already have some protection.” Touya says, gesturing to Jin. He kicks at Keigo to tell the guard to stay still. “He saved me by getting me to the commissary, and we have teamed up together to survive this damn riot. Jin will pass you the box, just you will come to the door, and Jin will give it to you. Try any funny business, and I shoot.”

Kai stares at Touya for a long moment, as if deciding what he wants to do, but then he looks at one of his men. “Give him the gun.”

The lackey doesn’t even attempt to question Kai. He obeys without hesitation, stepping forward as Touya slides open the slot. The yakuza member pushes the gun through the slot and Touya quickly grabs it and slams the slot shut again. He lifts up the gun, checking the safety before he expertly checks the amount of bullets in the magazine.

“Someone has been trigger happy.” Touya remarks, tucking the gun into the back of his waistband. “Only six bullets left?” He asks, ignoring the way that Keigo pokes insistently at his leg again, no doubt wanting the gun. Touya has no plans of handing the gun over to the guard.

“We have another gun that is fully loaded.” Kai tells him. “Nemoto has it back at the library.”

Touya looks to Jin and nods toward the fridge. “Let’s fill a box for them.” He says.

It doesn’t take long. Once they open the fridge, they just unload everything food related they find because otherwise it will go to waste anyways. Jin grabs a box from the storage room, and they completely fill it with as much as they can from the fridge and the shelves while Keigo stays in hiding.

“This is heavy!” Jin strains to carry it to the door. “Light as a feather!” He then contradicts himself.

Touya fiddles with the padlock, putting in the code before removing it. He briefly returns to the window to gesture for Kai to come around to the door, and then he returns to Jin’s side.

“I think this is a bad idea.” Jin whispers to him, glancing back toward Keigo’s obscured hiding spot. Shelves block their view of him.

“We gotta help them out, Jin. Stay on their good side, you know?” Touya whispers back. “Besides, the refrigerator food will go bad soon anyways.”

He grabs the door and undoes the manual lock with one hand while holding the gun in the other hand. He heaves the door open and immediately aims the gun at Kai who quickly raises his hands as if in surrender.

“Easy, Touya.” He says, his voice a deep rumble. “I won’t hurt you or Bubaigawara.”

Jin steps forward and passes him the box, and Kai quickly turns and sets the heavy box on the ground. When he turns back to face Jin and Touya, Touya is unsure of what to do next.

Touya gestures to the box with his gun. “Take your shit and go.” He says. “Jin, close the door.”

“Wait.” Kai says, and Jin hesitates, quickly glancing from the alpha to Touya then back to the alpha.

“What?” Touya asks, feeling his nerves beginning to make him shake. He struggles to keep the gun aimed at the alpha. “Please don’t start shit, Kai. I really want to trust you, but I’m in a really bad position right now.”

“I know.” Kai says. “I’m sorry to make you nervous, but this is the first time I’ve seen you without some kind of barrier between us in months.”

Touya cannot help the scoff that comes out of his mouth. He is truly stunned by what the alpha seems to be hinting at. “You’re a damn germaphobe, Kai.” He reminds the alpha.

Often the only time they get to spend together is when Kai is let outside to be in the kennels, which are outdoor cages for the most ‘unstable’ inmates who are deemed to pose too much of a risk to others to be allowed outside unsupervised. Their relationship began when Touya started teasing and flirting with the alpha through the cage, unable to touch each other, but it hadn’t taken much finagling for Kai to arrange them to be alone in the greenhouse together. Kai’s germaphobic ways kept them from being intimate very often, but Touya suspects the alpha has been missing him since his yard privileges were revoked a week ago. Absence seems to have made the heart grow fonder, if not a tad possessive.

“If you’re going to be my omega I need to get over that regarding you.” Kai replies, and Touya is further stunned by how bluntly forward he is being.

To Touya’s surprise, Kai removes his gloves and tucks them in his pockets. “That’s very presumptuous of you.” Touya mumbles, slightly lowering the gun.

“How is it presumptuous when you literally told me you wanted this several times?” Kai asks him. “Why don’t you give Bubaigawara the gun? I’m not going to hurt either of you. I just want to scent you, if that’s okay with you.”

Touya hesitates, Jin and him exchanging brief glances. He swallows thickly and nods his head at the other alpha, and he passes the gun to Jin. Touya wipes his sweaty palms on his sweatshirt and slowly exhales, lifting his eyes to meet Kai’s gaze.

“You come in here.” Touya abruptly decides. “Tell your guard dogs to wait out there or whatever you want, but you will come in here and we will close and lock the door. I don’t trust them.”

“Okay.” Kai holds up his hands placatingly when Jin aims the gun at him. He takes a half step back and looks toward his men. “Hojo, bring this box back to the library with Setsuno. Rappa, go with them. Katsukame will stay and guard me. Return when you are done dropping off.”

“Yes, boss.” Three voices chorus together. They hear footsteps recede down the hallway as Kai’s men hurry off to obey his orders.

Kai cautiously steps forward into the commissary, and Jin keeps the gun aimed at the other alpha.

“You can lower the gun.” Kai tries to tell Jin. “It’s very unlikely I can overpower the both of you and then somehow find the keys.”

Jin looks at Touya. “You should pat him down and make sure he doesn’t have anything on him.” He suggests.

“Uh….” Touya and Kai lock eyes again. “Okay.” He says. He has never been in a situation like this so he isn’t sure what he should or shouldn’t do. “I mean, I kinda trust him at this point, Jin-“

“Stop!”

All of them go rigid as Keigo makes himself known, gun raised and pointed at Touya and Kai. Touya turns slowly to stare wide eyed at the corrections officer. “Takami, don’t do this.” Touya shakes his head.

“This is really stupid, Touya.” Keigo tells him, eyes focused on Chisaki Kai, the very dangerous young head of the Shie Hassaiaki.

“You’re right it’s fucking stupid!” Touya exclaims, scowling at the guard. “What the hell are you doing-“

Touya doesn’t have the chance to react as suddenly Kai grabs him, one arm wrapping around him and the other holding a switchblade against the underside of Touya’s chin. Touya makes a squeaking sound and goes rigid in Kai’s grasp, and Jin makes a matching distressed noise as he lowers the gun to deescalate the situation.

“Kai-“ Touya has gone wide eyed, his arms effortlessly pinned to his sides by the strength in the alpha’s one arm curled tightly around him.

“Play along.” Kai’s whisper is almost too soft to hear, muffled and hidden by his mask, but he knows the omega has heard him by the way that Touya stops fighting against his hold. He raises his voice to address the situation. “You’re hiding a guard in here? And he has a gun?” Kai inquires, staring Takami down.

“Where did you get the knife, Chisaki?” Keigo asks, taking a half step forward.

“Stop!” Jin barks at Keigo, beginning to panic at the chaos unfolding.

There are loud footsteps in the hallway leading toward the door, but Kai raises his voice again. “Stay right there for now, Katsukame. It’s fine.” He calls out to his subordinate who obediently stops.

“Let him go. Don’t do anything drastic, Chisaki.” Keigo says, but stops approaching. “Put down the knife and let Todoroki go.”

“No.” Kai simply replies, and Touya squeezes his eyes shut at the knife briefly pokes him.

“Please!” Jin exclaims, and without hesitation he drops the gun to the ground and kicks it past Touya and Kai through the doorway without needing to be asked to do so. This isn’t his first hostage situation.

“Bubaigawara!” Keigo exclaims in shock, but him briefly glancing at Jin is all the opportunity that Kai needs.

Touya is yanked backwards through the doorway, and Keigo snaps his shocked gaze back to the duo just as Katsukame grabs the door and slams it shut without being told to.

“Touya!” Jin screeches after him.

“Don’t, Bubaigawara!” Touya hears Keigo shout at him. There is the sound of a scuffle, as if Keigo is struggling to stop Jin from chasing after them.

Touya is released by Kai, and immediately he crumbles and holds a hand to his throat, staring at Kai as he tugs his gloves back on before he snatches up the gun from the ground. “Take this.” Kai tosses it at Katsukame who catches it and immediately aims it at the doorway just in case.

“No!” Touya exclaims, rushing toward the door and throwing himself against it to block any shot the yakuza member might have on Jin or Keigo if they come through the door. “Don’t shoot him! Please!” He begs, and he hates begging with every fiber of his being, but he can swallow his pride when he owes Jin his life. He looks to Kai who has furrowed his eyebrows as he watches what is happening. “He’s been trying to protect me since the riot began. Please, Kai. Don’t hurt Jin.”

Kai narrows his eyes. “You did mention that earlier.” He says, and he glances behind Touya as he notices that the noises inside the commissary have stopped. “Why didn’t you mention Takami was there?”

“Because he was under the counter with a gun the whole time.” Touya doesn’t hesitate to slightly botch the truth. Yes, Keigo had been underneath the counter and technically had a gun the entire time, but he didn’t have it pointed at him like Touya’s wording implies.

Kai hums at that, expression turning stormy. “Come here, Touya. We won’t touch Bubaigawara. He’s a good guy and I owe him for protecting you.”

Touya doesn’t relax, but he does obey. Outside the commissary, he is dependent on the yakuza for protection now. He will play whatever part necessary to survive this riot as unscathed as possible, and he does genuinely like the alpha and the attention that he gives him. He knows Kai will do his best to protect him, even if the yakuza boss is rather unhinged.

Kai wraps his arm around him as the omega snuggles up to him, tentatively leaning his head against Touya’s fluffy hair. “We can worry about Takami and the commissary later.” He states. “Let’s get you cleaned up and then somewhere safe for your heat.”

Touya nods his head, obediently playing along. “Can we ask Jin to pass my blankets through the hatch? I want my nest.”

“Of course.” Kai easily gives in to that request. “But make it quick. Word will spread fast that you’re out of the commissary and with me now.”

Katsukame and Kai give Touya space as he goes around to the glass window, and the shutter still isn’t closed all the way. Touya turns sideways as he peeks through the gap. “Jin!” He calls out.

Jin scrambles over to the sale counter, his eyes wide and wild as he yanks the shutter up and stares at the omega now exposed out in the open. His expression twists into something that is terrified on the omega’s behalf. “Touya!” He exclaims, sounding pained.

“I’m okay, Jin.” Touya says, and his eyes flick toward Keigo who is half hidden behind a shelf and also looking pained by the omega’s absence from inside the commissary. “Can you pass me my blankets and a pillow, Jin? You can keep one of them for yourself.”

Jin’s chin wobbles, eyes teary. “You can’t come back inside?” He asks, sounding almost like a little kid.

Touya’s expression softens. “I’ll come back later, okay?” He tries to assuage the alpha’s grief and worry. “I’m gonna be all right. I just need my nest stuff for my heat, okay?”

“Okay.” Jin says with a sniffle, reluctantly turning away and going toward the storage room.

Touya turns his gaze to Keigo and his expression hardens again. “Don’t you dare do anything stupid to get him killed.” He tells the guard. “This is your fault, birdbrain.”

“I’ll watch out for Bubaigawara.” Keigo promises, and his eyes flick toward the corner of the window, as he is unable to see Kai or Katsukame but knows they are nearby listening. “Come back whenever you need food.”

“Don’t let Jin leave the commissary.” Touya tells Keigo, his anxiety beginning to kickstart his heat as he feels the first coil of a cramp in his lower belly. “Please.”

“I won’t.” Keigo says, clenching his jaw for a moment. The regret is blatant on his face, but there is nothing he can do without risking their lives further. “I’m sorry.”

Touya closes his eyes and sighs slowly, then turns and faces Kai who has been watching closely from just out of view. He gives the alpha a small smile, trying to keep that cynical mindset of his suppressed. Kai doesn’t return the smile, not that Touya would even be able to see it since Kai is wearing a mask.

Jin returns with the blankets and opens the hatch, shoving each of them through one at a time. Touya quickly folds and rolls them up, and he accepts the pillow last. He is oddly reminded of being a kid and packing up his overnight bag before going to a sleepover.

Sure. He can convince himself that’s what this is. Just a casual sleepover with a yakuza boss.

Notes:

Poor Jin and Keigo. Kai is such an opportunist.
