Chapter 1: Admission
Chapter Text
Katsuki slowly opened his eyes, though even just that process in general felt excruciating, like two whole three hundred pound refrigerators were sitting on top of his eyelids, so he decided the best course of action was to keep them closed. It’s not like he needed to see, anyways. He knows where he is, he’s been here more times than he can count.
He doesn’t need his eyes to smell the peracetic acid and the sterilized chemicals coating the small room. He doesn’t need his eyes to hear the all-too-mocking sound of his own heartbeat monitor, or the feeling of the IV drip attached to his left arm, he knows where he is, whether he wants too or not. So his best course of action is to just go back to sleep, go back to the state of blissful ignorance that was ever-so peaceful.
However, the rustling of paper to the right of him gives him a large indication that he’s not going back to sleep anytime soon.
“Katsuki , I know you’re awake.” A sharp voice cuts through the quiet air, like a drop of a penny in a calm lake, creating ripples through the room.
The blonde tries to push his luck, “no, I’m not,” He says, voice cracking due to the dryness of his throat. It feels like sandpaper, he didn’t even recognise the feeling until he opened his mouth, this is why it’s better to just go back to sleep.
The figure beside him lets out a deep sigh, he can hear the tapping of their manicured hands on the metal frame of the bed.
“Katsuki, I’m not fighting you on this ,” his mother sighs, tired.
He doesn’t need his eyes to know she’s sagging in her chair with eye bags so vibrantly purple people will start making wrongful assumptions.
He doesn’t need his eyes to know these things, not anymore.
“The doctor will be in here, soon.” She says, “it’d be wise to get up now.” She warns , voice soft, yet stern.
With a heavy sigh, he slowly opens his eyes.
The weight is still there, almost crushing , but the bright light he’s immediately exposed to keeps him awake. It’s not a warm, yellow, comforting light. Its white, harsh, clinical, telling,
He didn’t need his eyes to know that he is in a hospital.
Katsuki hated hospitals , ever since he was a brat , he has absolutely despised them.
But he doesn’t know what he despises more, hospitals— or his heart that makes him practically live in them every single waking second.
There’s a lot of things katsuki hates , people, loud noises, people making loud noises, bratty children, the list could go on, but what’s on the top of ‘shitty things Katsuki hates’ is Katsuki’s heart.
That makes him sound suicidal, but he’s not. He likes living, likes seeing, likes smelling, likes feeling, likes tasting— but he just hates his heart.
It’s a lazy, faulty, broken piece of junk that doesn’t know how to work, Katsuki likes— no, loves being the best, he’s usually the best at everything, but just his luck he’s stuck with the one thing everybody’s the best at except him: having a good heart.
The blonde's head lulls to the side, away from his mother, he can’t look at her right now, not in this shitty bed and his mouth feeling like sandpaper and this stupid heart monitor and—
A warm hand settles on top of his, a familiar touch, one that used to run through his hair when he was sick or smack the shit out of him when he was out of line, it’s warm, very warm, or maybe he’s just really cold. He doesn’t know, he doesn’t think he wants too, cold hands are never a good sign.
“Kats,” his mother pleads, “look at me.” She says, soft yet begging.
And he does.
It takes strength, but his head turns over to the other side and he locks eyes with dark ruby, he tries not to look at her greying hair, or her purple eyebags, or her frown, he just looks at ruby.
“Hi, son.” She smiles, he doesn’t know if he’s giving a small smile back or just staring blankly at her, he hopes it’s the former.
“Where’s dad?” He croaks out, and tries to ignore the gruffness in his voice or that damn heart monitor that plays constantly in the background.
She smiles again but it doesn’t reach her eyes, he doesn’t expect it too. With a son like hers, she never smiles anymore.
“He went to go get some ice chips for you , I know you’re probably dehydrated and hungry..” she trails off, her smile slowly fading away as she looks at him with a gaze he can’t describe.
“I ain’t shit,” he hisses, though it doesn’t sound as threatening with a voice equivalent to a 60-year-old chain smoker people see in commercials with that breathing hole in their throat.
The room falls silent for a moment, Katsuki usually likes quiet, finds serenity in it, but it’s not quiet , not anymore. Not with the mocking beeping of the monitor beside him, he doesn’t dare to look at it. He can’t. Instead, he looks down, where his mothers warm hand is encapsulating his cold one.
“…do you wanna talk about it?” She tries, voice high and almost nervous.
“No, “ he shuts down immediately. He doesn’t want to talk about how he just wanted to feel normal for one fucking minute of his goddamned life.
“Okay,” she says, curtly. “If you don’t, then i will.”
His mothers voice became stern, cold, detached. It was only after she removed her hand from his to clench it onto the fabric of her skirt did he look up, her face looked furious, her eyes looked tired. So, so tired.
“That-“ she inhaled a deep breath, trying to compose herself. How Katsuki wished he could do the same.
“That was really fucking stupid. Katsuki .” She said, compsure shattering as her voice quivered with an intensity he could only describe as a mothers grief.
His mom always yelled, always screamed, that’s just how they worked. Katsuki didn’t mind it. He knew he was in trouble when his mother yelled, it didn’t really have an affect on him anymore.
But what did, was when his mother got quiet.
Mitsuki never got quiet, the only time she did was when his grandma died when he was eight, and when he almost died when he was eleven.
He has made his mother go quiet twice now.
It’s not a good feeling, seeing your mother so defeated like this, it’s not a good feeling at all.
“I know.” He admits, quietly. “I know.” He says again, because he felt like the weight of his sincerity wasn’t heavy enough the first time.
“I know, you know.” His mother says after a pause. There’s nothing left to talk about, nothing left to be said, there’s nothing they can do. Katsuki’s sorry, Mitsuki’s sorry, but it doesn’t change a damn thing.
The blonde grits his teeth and looks away. The urge to cry builds up in his chest but he pushes it down, like a dam waiting to burst.
The door creaks open and both him and his mother’s gaze shift towards it, Katsuki sees his father , rough hand on the door, waiting to close it as quietly as possible. His brown, honey eyes meet Katsuki’s red ones and his face immediately relaxes, he smiles, warm and inviting.
“Hi, kats,” he says calmly, “How are you holding up?” He asks, almost timid, like he’s stepping on glass.
My hearts still beating, he wants to bite, but holds his tongue. “‘m fine.” He says slowly.
“He’s still a little out of it from the medication,” his mom remarks, talking as if he’s not here, as if he’s not lucid.
His fathers gaze shifts back to Katsuki and looks at him with a look he can only describe as pity before he takes a seat in the empty chair next to his mother and holds out a plain white paper cup.
“You wouldn’t believe the line for ice chips,” he tries to make a joke, but it falls flat.
Sorry dad, nothing you can say will make this better.
He takes the cup with shaking hands, the cup feels colder than he expected, he blames that on the ice. As he said, cold hands are never a good sign.
Chapter Text
Not everyone is special.
Katsuki learned that from a very early age.
Some people are just better than others, some are weaker, some are stronger.
It’s not fair, but it’s life.
——————————
“Pass it here!” Katsuki bellows, his feet hit the ground with soft thumps against the plush grass as he runs at full speed. “I’m open!” He says once again.
It’s recess , he’s with some loser extras that don’t know how to play football apparently because none of the idiots are looking his way!
Finally someone , he can’t remember their name but someone gains some sense of clarity and throws the ball a couple feet towards Katsuki. He catches it, effortlessly, he always does.
He already a good meter ahead of the extras behind him so he books it, he’s gonna make it, hes gonna score a touchdown, he can almost feel it— almost taste it——
It goes black.
His vision goes dark before he feels his body fall with the weight of a thousand pounds, he feels his head smack against the hard soil as what feels like bees in his head swarm around him.
————————————
“Katsuki..? Kats, kat— wake up.” A voice from above tells him , he’s never been good at following orders, infact, he has half a mind to just pretend to be asleep.
“Katsuki, I’m serious.” The voice says again, a voice he now recognises as his mother. He slowly opens his eyes, expecting to see a bright blue sky and his playmates surrounding him.
Instead, he’s met with a bright white light and the smell of clean chemicals.
What?
His eyes dart around the room, unfocused, before he can gather his bearings- his mother speaks up.
“Katsuki! Oh , thank god.” She says, hugging him tightly. She feels warm, too warm.. is she okay?
“Mom?” He mutters, disoriented.
“Hi, baby.” She muffles into the crook of his neck. He furrows his brow in confusion, his ma never acts like this, he’d prefer it if she just called him a brat or something… this.. this is unnatural.
“Mom,” he says, squirming under her smothering, “stop,” he complains.
She stops hugging him like a koala to look down at him, her eyebrows furrowed but she smiles anyway, rubbing her well manicured hand down his face . “You’re okay.” She says, almost like a whisper.
“Uh, yeah?” He says in an almost ‘duh’ tone. “‘Course I am.”
She stares at him, for a long, hard moment before sitting down in the chair next to him.
With his mother’s overbearing body out of the way, he’s finally able to assess his surroundings, looking around the white, professional room.
This is a hospital.
Katsuki hates hospitals.
“Mom,” he says, looking over to her. “Why am i here? Why are we here?”
Katsuki’s mother has never been one to sugarcoat, when he was 6 he asked if Santa Claus was real, his mother told him the truth.
Well, to be fair after that day katsuki came to school calling everyone losers for believing in Santa Claus, making half the kids cry, including dumb Deku. His mom had to have a sit down talk with him and made him apologise to all his dumb classmates.
It was humiliating, but his mom always told the truth.
But with the way she’s looking at him right now, as if she’s contemplating— no. hesitating on what to say to him, freaks him out more than he’d like to admit.
“You fell down at recess, hun.” She says, tone soft, yet sure.
Katsuki goes silent for a moment, thinking hard to remember how that happened, but- he can’t.
“I don’t remember.” He says, simply.
“I know.” His mother whispers, almost desperate. “Pa and me had to take you here to figure out why, “
“Oh , okay.” He says, shifting in his bed that’s really uncomfortable. “Where's dad?” He asks, facing away from her to look out the window at the hospital courtyard, it looks quite nice , actually. He wishes he was playing out there , right now
“Dad is talking to the doctors.” The blonde says in a lighthearted tone, but she’s as stiff as a board.
Before katsuki can ask anything else, the door creaks open, as a tall, blonde headed man comes in, he has a smile plastered on his face.
“Mrs Bakugou,” he starts, before his blue eyes dart over to Katsuki, the man’s smile grows wider , Katsuki just stares.
“Ah! Young Bakugou!” He says ecstatically, practically running over to give him a handshake to which bakugou returns weakly, it’s kinda hard when the mans whole hand encapsulates one finger. “It’s such a pleasure to meet you,” he says, grin as sharp as ever.
“Who are you?” Katsuki says, clipped. He didn’t mean for it to come out that way but as he said before, he hates hospitals. But by the searing look his mother gives him he knows it would’ve been smarter just to keep his moutn shut.
The man lets out a hearty, chest filled guffaw. Yet Katsuki can’t figure out why. He was just asking a question?
“You are a feisty boy, young man,” he says, before leaning down to whisper in his ear. “A strong one, too.”
That admission and the serious look in the man’s eyes made a flutter of pride fill through his chest. But he tried not to show it, darting his eyes away quickly. “Yeah, I know.” He says, full of attitude.
The obnoxious blonde doesn’t seem deterred by this, though. He keeps his smile plastered on his face , “of course , you do” he says, but his tone didn’t have any malice or sarcasm , it was just a genuine admission.
Before katsuki can say anything else, the man turns on his heel to face his mother. He sees the two exchange words that he can’t make out before he sees his mother nod, a tone of seriousness comes across her features before the blonde headed man turns back around.
“Young bakugou,” he addresses, “your mother and me are going to go out in the hallway to discuss adult talk, okay?” He says, voice chipper as ever, he pulls out what looks like a lollipop from the pocket of his white coat, “take this, will you?” He says, “we’ll be right back!” He gives an obnoxious thumbs up.
All of the building respect Katsuki had for this man shattered at that moment. How dare he bribe Katsuki with something as stupid as a fucking lollipop? He’s eleven years old, he can take whatever you throw at him. He scowls, crossing his arms over his chest.
“No,” he barks, tone clipped.
The room goes silent for a moment, the loud man looks almost laughable with his mouth gaping open and the lollipop still in his ginormous hand, if Katsuki was a meaner person, he would’ve smacked that candy right out of the pads of his fingertips.
“No?” The man says, voice high and mouth open almost as if in disbelief, but his eyes look amused. Who doesn’t , is Katsuki’s mother. He’s sure if the doctor wasn’t right there she would’ve popped him in the mouth so hard he would’ve had another thing to treat.
“Don’t do that,” he hisses, trying not to blow up on this man, but he makes it pretty hard. “Don’t go out there when I know you’re just gonna talk about me, I’m not stupid.” He says, looking down at his hands, almost embarrassed.
He can’t face his mother, not right now. He knows the look she’s giving him is enough to cause a category 5 hurricane but he has to know what’s going on.
A loud sigh filters through the room. “Young bakugou, I know you want to know but these are very adult matters, things someone at your youth shouldn’t worry abou—“
“You just said I was brave.” He cuts him off, quite rudely. “Whatever you say, I can handle it, I promise. You don’t have to treat me like some wounded animal and you don’t have to bribe me with a lollipop.” He says with a finality in his tone. Finally finding the courage to lift his head up and take a look at the man’s expression.
His signature smile is gone, instead placed with furrowed brows and sharp eyes. He lets out a defeated sigh, “you’re right, young bakugou.” He says, before giving a weak smile “you’re an old soul, you know that?” He chuckles to himself before turning around to face his mother. “If it’s alright with you, Mrs. Bakugou, I could bring your husband in here and we could discuss these matters in front of your son.” He says, Katsuki can’t see his face but his tone is less cheerful, so he’s sure that fake, plastic smile is long gone.
There’s a moment of silence and he watches his mother bite her lip, her calculating eyes dart between Katsuki and the doctor before whispering a soft, “Okay.”
Her gaze turns back towards Katsuki, “ I’m sorry about him, he’s a brat who doesn’t know when to shut up,” she says, defeatedly. And katsuki wants to bark something back but it’s what she says afterwards that makes him hold his tongue. “But he’s also an incredibly bright kid, levelheaded and strong, too.” She admits, “whatever it is you have to say, he can take it.” She reaches over and squeezes his hand, one tight, warm squeeze. “We can take it.”
Katsuki bites back a smile.
—————————
“Bradycardia,” the doctor— now known as Dr. Yagi states.
The word itself doesn’t hold much weight on the room, no one really knows what that is, including Katsuki.
“Cardia,” his mother says, contemplating. “As in cardio? Like the heart?” She asks, crossing her leg over her knee.
“Yes,” The giant says, “as in the heart.” He confirms, before continuing. “Bradycardia just means your son has a lower heartbeat rate than most, around 30-40 beats per minute.” He says, slowly yet surely, tapping his pen against his clipboard.
“40 to 30.. that’s , that’s pretty low, isn’t it?” His father chimes in, looking nervous. He wishes he could say that he’s fine, and that it’s alright , but he needs to hear what highlighter hair says before he comes to that conclusion.
“Yes Sir,” Dr. Yagi confirms once again. “It’s quite normal to see bradycardia , lower heart rates are often very treatable , but this.. this is severe.” He says, grimly. Before giving them any time to process the weight of his words, he continues. “The problem with this condition is not the heart beat itself but the fact that it reduces blood flow to the heart, preventing enough oxygen to get to the body’s organs and muscles.” He explains fast, like he needed to get this out in one breath.
The room is silent for a moment, before his mother speakers up, quiet and shallow.
“So what does this mean for him? “ she asks, before taking a deep breath, reaching over to squeeze her husbands hand tightly.
“It means that as of right now, this condition is manageable. We can give him medication orally to keep his heart rate up, but there’s no guarantee that will work by itself, your son will need an extensive diet and exercise daily. “
You feel the tension in the room esse just a little. Katsuki’s fathers shoulders sag and he sees his mother let out a breath. “Okay.. “ she says, “okay.” This time more sure.
It’s Katsuki's dads turn to speak now. “Mr. Yagi…” he starts, “Why did this happen in the first place? I mean one moment our son was fine… playing football… then… he’s on the ground?”
“It’s… actually quite bizarre,” the doctor says, biting his lip between his teeth, “ some people are just born with bradycardia , but the fact this wasn’t caught until now is….” He trails off, looking down for a moment before lifting it up again. “I’m sure your son is a very active kid,”
“He is.” His mother cuts in, quite rudely, though Katsuki’s not sure if she intended it to be that way or not.
Dr. Yagi pays no mind and continues “but, he can’t play like this, not anymore , at least.” He says, quickly. “It’s too rough.”
Now it’s Katsuki’s turn to be confused, what is this man saying? Now he can’t play with his friends anymore? What kind of bullshit is this?
“You just said exercising would be good for me.” Katsuki bites, a tone of underlying bitter in his voice.
“It’s a .. fine line.” The doctor clarifies, running a hand down his face. “Braydcardia has a tendency to fluctuate , we would have to run more tests to figure out a sustainable routine for you and your heart, young bakugou.” He says, tiredly. “Right now, your heart is beating at 30-40 beats per minute, if you tried to exercise right now, your heart would be pumping too slow to be sustainable. But if your heart rate increases with the medication we provided, your heart may be able to take some cardio, such as walking or running.” He explains.
Within that entire monologue, Katsuki only heard one thing.
“Walking or running?” He hisses, “that’s not exercise!” He huffs, crossing his arms over his chest. “This is so stupid. I won’t be able to play with my friends because of my dumb, loser of a heart?” Katsuki bites out, looking down at his chest with disdain.
Katsuki lifts his head to see the doctor and his parents exchange a look Katsuki can’t quite make out, it’s like an unspoken conversation is happening between them. He hates it when people do that.
Dr. Yagi clears his throat, before saying one final thing. “Again, mr. And Mrs. Bakugou, this is all very new, we will need to run some more tests to get a better understanding of what this condition looks like on his heart but one thing Is for sure,”
Katsuki feels everyone in the room hold their breath.
“With your sons condition , it’s going to be a hard, long , battle. Especially something this severe.” He runs a Hand through his hair. “Normally I wouldn’t be so blunt, but I’m only telling you this because it’s urgent that you get your son on the heart transplant list as soon as possible.”
If the tension in the room was heavy before, it is now. Katsuki watches his mother squeeze his fathers hand so tight it starts to turn purple. “Heart Transplant list? But… but you said it was manageable! That he was okay!” She yells, resisting the urge to stand up and claw this doctor to death right where he stands.
“Yes ma’am, and I didn’t lie about that.” He explains, “but the waitlist for a new heart will take years, and your sons condition is only going to get worse, so it’s better if you put him on the list now.” He explains, almost coldly. Not cruel, but cold. Faux sympathy. Though Katsuki guesses it must come with the job.
Then , something strange happened.
His mother started to cry.
He’s never seen his mother cry, not in his eleven years of living, he’s seen his father cry, sure, but never his mother.
But she did, today.
Katsuki hoped it wouldn’t be a recurring thing.
But something inside him just knew deep down that that wasn’t gonna be the case.

Chapter Text
Izuku had a really, really, long day.
He’s been in surgery for over eight hours, who knew the cardio department could be so extensive? He wasn’t even operating either, he was observing, as the doctors said, but all he really felt like he was doing was fetching a bone when the surgeons threw one to him.
Maybe, twelve hours ago he would’ve said he's motivated, and even excited to go into this surgery, but that was Izuku twelve hours ago, twelve hours ago when the patient about to go in for surgery was still alive, twelve hours ago where the patients family and Izuku, had hope.
The patient was a forty-five year old male, he had two children, divorced for nine years and split custody. His two girls were the highlight of his life, he didn’t even know he needed heart surgery until yesterday.
He wasn’t scared, putting on a brave face for his little girls, even as they put him under anaesthesia, he was calm, how Izuku wishes he had his composure.
The man died due to a blood clot in a massive artery during surgery, they couldn’t remove the clot, not around the heart. There was nothing they could do.
There was nothing he could do.
So , yeah. He’s not feeling very motivated, not right now.
———————
Izuku exited the operation room and sighed, pulling his scrub cap off with a loud snap and running a hand through his hair.
His legs felt numb, he was covered in blood.
Fuck.
He didn’t even realise he had put his hands under water until the light wash hit his fingers. His shoulders relaxed as he watched with tired eyes as the water flowed off his hands and into the drain. He didn’t know how long he had been standing there, he didn’t really care.
“Midoriya,” a clear cut voice breaks him out of his spiralling stupor. It’s Aizawa.
Aizaw is his resident , training him since he first started his internship. He had a notorious reputation for cutting people out of the program not even a month in, it was hard, rigorous work, and honestly Izukus surprised he’s even made it this far.
“Yes, sir?” He asks, not daring to look up, not right now. Not at this moment. If he just keeps washing his hands—
“Stop washing your hands, Midoriya.” He orders, voice cold as ice.
It takes a second, or maybe a minute, but Izuku slowly reaches over and turns off the water, awkwardly wiping his hands on his scrubs. He turns to face aizawa, and with as much strength as he could muster in that moment, lifts his head.
“Midoriya.” He sighs, leaning his hip against the counter sink. “What happened today.. It wasn't your fault. It wasn’t anyone’s fault.”
Izuku scrunches his eyebrows in confusion , “I.. uh,” he starts, then falters. “I know, sir.” He says weakly, though he’s not sure if he believes it, and by the calculating look aizawa gives him, he doesn’t believe it either.
“You have to stop caring for your patients so much, Midoriya. It’s not healthy.” He says, a finality in his tone.
Okay, now Izukus really confused. “But.. that’s my.. that’s my job sir—“
“No it’s not.” He cuts of sharply, before leaning closer, one hand on his hip. “Your job as an intern is to deliver news and do periodic checkups, not look at baby photos with a dying patient.” He declares.
Izuku stands there for a moment, taking in what he just said. The intern clenches his fists in his gloves, anger rising within him. “He needed someone in that moment, it was only for a second—“
“I’m sure he did need someone, “ aizawa agrees, giving a slow nod. “But that person wasn’t you.” He hisses, pointing a finger to Midoriya’s chest.
Izukus fuming. Wasn’t him? That man had no one once visiting hours were over, he— he was alone and even though he didn’t show it Izuku knows he was scared. He was human. Actually, Izukus pretty sure aizawa must be a robot because what in the actual fuck?
Izuku bites his cheek, trying not to yell, or scream or hurt his resident, yeah— that wouldn’t be very good at all.
So the next thing he can think of his to walk away. Without a word, Izuku turns on his heel and practically stomps towards the door, he can’t look back— he— he won’t.
“Wait,” aizawa calls out, Izuku stops without meaning too, he silently curses himself in his head before saying a low “what.”
Aizawa seems to not notice the anger in his tone, either that or he just doesn’t care because then he says “make sure you check on one of you’re new patients , room 218 please.” He says, tone lighthearted as ever, like he doesn’t even care.
Izuku walks away and slams the door behind him. Not looking back.
Like he said, he wasn’t feeling very motivated today.
—————————
After changing into different scrubs and washing all the blood off of him, he feels a little better.
A little.
His legs still ache, the bottom of his feet feel numb due to the constant pressure. His forearms burn from constant use, and he can feel his mind beating within his skull.
“5 hours,” he whispers to himself, almost like a prayer. “5 hours.” He repeats, because he didn’t believe it the first time he said it.
“5 hours till what?” A chipper voice comes from behind him.
Izuku turns around, sluggishly. It’s Ochako, one of the interns studying along side him. He quite likes her, she’s sweet, yet has a fire in her eyes Izuku wishes he had.
“Till I finally leave.” He says in a low, rough voice. Ochako just stares at him, as if calculating— he can see the gears turning in her head before she says, “Izuku, you look awful!” She says in her obnoxiously high voice.
The intern pinches his fingers between the bridge of his nose. “I know.” He says quietly.
Ochako runs a hand through her short hair before saying “aizawa wanted me to ask you if you’ve checked on 218 yet.”
“218?” He shoots his head up, eyes wide, before his mouth falls open. “Fuck,” he says quietly, before turning on his heel and sprinting down the hallway.
“So that’s a no?” Ochako shouts, but he doesn’t answer, he just keeps running.
————————————
Izuku bursts open the patients door with much more force than intended. He doesn’t even have time to look down at his clipboard and assess the patient.
“Fuckin’ finally.” A rough , all too familiar voice says. “I’ve waited all fuckin’ day for a doctor to come in here.”
Izukus blood runs cold. All feeling in his body numbs , he stops in his tracks and looks directly towards the patient. The man is looking out the window, but from his blonde hair and rough voice there’s no mistaking—
“Kacchan?” He asks, in an almost high pitched voice.
The blonde whips his head around , Izuku watches as the man’s eyes go wide with relalization.
He’s much older now— Izuku notes. Much- much older. His jawline is defined and he has filled out quite a bit, he’s always been a bit stronger then the other kids but by the way his biceps are straining against the fabric of his sleeve, this is no laughing matter.
Izuku almost can’t believe it.
Kacchan is here, a boy who he thought he’d never see again. Is here.
“Deku?” The blonde whispers in a hoarse voice, and Izuku feels his heart stop.
Izuku sucks in a breath, he feels his toes curl around his scrubs, his body stiffens. “Hi, kacchan.” He says, tapping his pen against his clipboard.
He doesn’t want to look down at it— the charts. He doesn’t want to know what has his Kacchan on a fucking breathing machine with IV’s plugged into him.
He’s in the cardio unit.
That’s— that’s scary.
“Oi, nerd,” the man says, snapping his fingers, weak, but there. It’s enough to get him out of his inner monologue.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” He spits, erratically.
Izuku swallows “I should be asking you the same thing, kacchan.”
