It's All About the Journey

Summary:

Victor reflects on finally finding enjoyment in the little things in life (& love)

Notes:

Here's my short little blurb for day 2 of Viktuuri Week because I'm still a day behind...Oops

Day 2: Travel

Work Text:

“You sure you don’t want the window seat, Vitya?” Yuuri asked before stepping into their row on the plane.

“I’m sure, my love. All the view I will ever need is right here.” Victor said as he booped Yuuri’s nose.

“Victorrr.” Yuuri groaned as his cheeks turned pink.

Victor gave his husband a kiss on the cheek as they got themselves situated in their seats. They were on their way back to Japan to visit Yuuri’s family. Victor was excited to see his in-laws again. They were such a lovely bunch and he missed them dearly when they got too busy to schedule a visit.

“Are you excited to see everyone?” Victor asked.

“Yup, I can’t wait to be able to soak in the hot springs, and eat my mom’s cooking.”

“Me too, and I can’t wait to ask Mama Katuski for more baby Yuuri pictures!”

“Victor, why? Haven’t you seen enough of them?”

“Absolutely not! I will always desire more Yuuri content from all times of his life.”

Yuuri rolled his eyes, “If you say so.”

“I do.”

As the plane took off the couple decided to watch a movie together before dinner was served. Yuuri leaned on Victor’s shoulder as they shared a pair of earbuds. Victor rested his cheek on his beloved’s head and couldn’t help but sigh in contentment.

For so long Victor despised the “traveling” part of traveling. He always just wanted to be at his destination and not have to waste time in the cramped seats of an airplane. He was always looking forward to the next thing. He was so focused on doing a new jump, going to a new place, reimagining himself to keep everyone interested that he forgot to really live in the moment and enjoy the little things.

He enjoyed every little thing now that he had Yuuri in his life. Trading in spacious first class seats for cozy economy ones. Sharing earbuds and a screen instead of using their own. He had really learned to see the beauty in the journey of getting where you were going instead of just focusing on whatever was waiting at the end. He loved the way Yuuri would curl up on him to take a mid-flight nap. Even though his shoulder might go numb from Yuuri sleeping on it, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

He loved the deep conversations they would get into thousands of miles from the ground. The secret kisses they would share if Yuuri was feeling bold enough. The silly games they would come up with, and his favorite, the many names they would give to their herd of poodles he would hopefully convince Yuuri to get someday.

Although he was very excited to go home to Yuuri’s family. He was so happy to live in this moment now with his husband by his side and his heart full of love.
