Chapter 1: Meeting Jay

Chapter Text

Zarina runs out of Ursula's Fish and chips heading towards school. She had gotten off her shift later than usual and was close to being late for school. She was almost there when she bumped into someone. “Can’t you watch where you’re going,” The person said, turning around. It was Jay.

“Well then don’t stand in the way,” Zarina snapped back at him, already annoyed. Jay was surprised that she wasn’t scared of him because he was clearly taller than her. He saw her face and immediately realized who she was

“Hey aren’t you Harry’s kid? The one that I see-”

“My name is Zarina. Now excuse me,” Zarina said, walking away from him. She didn’t like being told she was Harry’s daughter. Jay just followed her.

“I’m Jay, Jafar’s son. I thought you were the nice one of his kids though. Or is that-”

“Say my sister’s name and you will have a black eye,” Zarina said, walking quicker. Jay grabbed Zarina’s arm, making her stop and turn around. “What do you want?!?”

“To know why you’re rushing to school while no one cares about it.”

“My father will kill me if I’m late,” Zarina said, trying to pull her arm away.

“Really?” Jay said, smirking. “Even though you do-”

“A lot of things for him already? Yeah, but I’m still not his favorite. That’s can’t do anything wrong Livina.”

“Got it,” Jay said, as the bell rang from the school. He let go of Zarina’s arm and she took off running. Jay watches as she goes.

_______

Zarina left the school, not in a really big hurry to go home. She knew that Harry will already be mad. It wasn’t even her fault. She had even gotten halfway back to the shop when Jay caught up to her. This time, he had Mal with him. “I thought you said being late would get you in trouble. Or was it only for school?” Jay asked, smirking. Zarina turned around.

“Why does it matter to you?!?” Zarina said, wanting Jay to leave her alone.

“Hey, I’m just asking. Some questions that I might be able to use against you and your father.”

“You want dirt on my dad?” Zarina asked, chuckling. “I have enough to make him deemed an idiot.”

“So you’re not useless,” Mal said, smirking. “Like what Jay described.”

“Even though he barely knows me?”

“Shut up,” Jay said, rolling his eyes. “I thought you-”

“Were talking with our father’s enemy?” Someone said behind Zarina. She turned around to see Livina standing there smiling. “He will be super happy to hear about this.” With that Livina turned around and ran towards the shop.

“Oh well,” Zarina said, turning around to face Mal and Jay. “I have to go.”

“Come hang out with us tonight,” Jay said. “You won’t have to worry about your sibling interrupting the conversation.”

“Sure, bye,” Zarina said, running after her sister.

Chapter Text

A few years later...

Zarina walked into Ursula’s fish and chips shop after school to see Uma behind the counter. When Uma saw her, she tried to stop her from going to the pirate ship. “Your sister is in trouble,” She said, pushing Zarina back. “I wouldn't go back there right now.”

“Livina is actually in trouble for once?” Uma nodded her head. “I’m sorry, but this is something that I got to see a little of.” Uma reluctantly let Zarina go past her. Zarina tried to quickly and quietly get around her father yelling for once at her sister. But with her luck, Harry noticed her. He yelled at her for not trying to help Livina out of trouble and stuff. Then he bans her from going out at night, which then Zarina runs to her room and locks the door. She ignores any pounding on it as she does homework. Then she hears light tapping on the window. She looks up and sees Jay outside. She opens the window and Jay comes inside. “What are you doing here?” She asked, putting stuff over the window so no one sees in.

“I heard yelling and wanted to see what it was about. So you still not taking my offer of leaving this dump?”

“I told you, I’ll think about it Jay,” Zarina said, turning around to face him. He took a step back with his hands up.

“Okay, okay, don’t have to get angry at me for it,” he said, smiling. Another round of knocking came and Harry’s voice came from the other side of the door.

“Zarina, do you have someone in your room?” He asked, jiggling the handle to her door. Jay quickly left and Zarina opened the door. Harry looked around then left.

__________

Zarina finished packing her stuff and extra spray paint into her bag. She looked around and then quickly left. The only one in the Fish and Chips shop was Uma. “You know when to be back by,” was all she said. Zarina nodded and left, planning on never returning there again. She hid in an alley and took off her pirate clothes revealing her jacket and ripped jeans. She left the clothes there and headed to the normal meet-up spot but someone grabbed her bag and ripped it away from her. It was Jay.

“What do we have here?” Jay said, looking through the bag.

“Give it back, Jay,” Zarina said, turning around. Jay, surprised, dropped the bag. Zarina picked it up and put it on.

    “I thought you could-”

“Who cares about if I could or couldn’t do something? I’m done with living there.”

    “So you’re taking my offer?”

“Yes,” Zarina said. Jay grabbed her arm and brought her to his dad’s shop. He brought her into the shop. Jafar wasn’t in the shop, but Zarina put her things next to where Jay slept. They head back out. Jay brought her to Lady Tremaine’s curl and dye, and they went inside. Dizzy was inside, sweeping. She looked at Jay and Zarina, surprised.

“Hey, you’re Zarina right?” Dizzy asked, leaning into her broom a little.

“Yeah,” Zarina said, smiling a little.

“I’m surprised to see you here. Your dad said-”

“I don’t care what he said, anymore,” Zarina said, smirking. “I left that life behind me. So can you my hair in a way, you think. Makes me, me?”

“Yes!” Dizzy said, grabbing Zarina’s hand and dragging her to a chair. An hour later, Zarina’s hair is now a darker shade of pink than her jacket. Zarina looked in the broken mirror and smiled. She handed Dizzy the money she owed and left. Jay and Zarina headed to where they usually meet up with everyone else.

Chapter Text

3 years later...

Mal starts singing “They say I'm trouble, they say I'm bad. They say I'm evil, and that makes me glad.”

Zarina joins in “They say I was kind, they say I was good-hearted, well now she’s gone for good!”

“A dirty no good down to the bone? Your worst nightmare can’t take me home,” Jay sings.

“So I've got some mischief in my blood. Can you blame me? I never got no love,” Evie added.

“They think I'm callous, A low-life hood. I feel so useless, Misunderstood!”

“Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who's the baddest of them all? Welcome to my wicked world, wicked world,” Zarina, Mal, and Evie sang.

“I'm rotten to the core, core. Rotten to the core, I'm rotten to the core, core. Who could ask for more? I'm nothing like the kid next—like the kid next door. I'm rotten to the (core), I'm rotten to the (core), I'm rotten to the core,” All of them sang and danced.

“Call me a schemer, call me a freak. How can you say that? I'm just unique,” Zarina and Mal sang together.

“What, me? A traitor? Ain't got your back? Are we not friends? What's up with that?” Jay added.

“So I'm a misfit, So I'm a flirt. I broke your heart? I made you hurt?” Evie sang.

“The past is past. Forgive, forget. The truth is… You ain't seen nothing yet!” Carlos added last.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who's the baddest of them all? Welcome to my wicked world, wicked world,” Zarina, Mal, and Evie sang.

“I'm rotten to the core, core. Rotten to the core. I'm rotten to the core, core. Who could ask for more? I'm nothing like the kid next—like the kid next door. I'm rotten to the (core), I'm rotten to the (core), I'm rotten to the core,” they finished. Mal took candy from a kid and everyone cheered. Then they ran away. Mal already knowing who it is turned around and said: “Hi mom.”

“Stealing candy Mal. So disappointed.” Maleficent replied.

“It was from a baby,” Mal replied proudly.

“That’s my nasty little girl,” She said. Maleficent took the lollipop and spat on it. Then she put it under her armpit. “Give this back to the dreadful creature,” She said, handing it to one of her henchmen. When they leave she turns back to us. “You five have been invited to go to a different school. In Auradon.” Everyone except Mal try to get away but Maleficent’s henchman held us in place.

“Mom we’re not going to a school filled to the brim with pretty pink princesses-”

“And perfect princes,” Evie interrupted. Mal shot her a look and Evie quickly changed her attitude. “Ew.”

“And I don’t do uniforms unless they’re leather,” Jay added as he put his hand up for a high-five. No one accepted.

“And I’ve heard they allow dogs at Auradon. Mom said that they eat little boys who don’t listen.” Carlos added. Jay barked at Carlos making him jump.

“And I rather not go to the place I wanted to go to when I was younger,” Zarina added. Jay nodded at that.

“Yeah mom, we’re not going,” Mal said.

“Oh you think it’s small, pumpkin,” Maleficent said walking back to the house. Everyone’s bag was already packed. The villains fought a little until they heard a car honk. The kids grabbed their bags and ran outside. They got in and Zarina sat next to Jay. Carlos and Jay started fighting over some candy. Finally, the limo stopped and everyone hopped out. Fairy Godmother was waiting for them.

“Hello, and welcome to Auradon Prep,” She said. “I’m Fairy Godmother.” Two more people came into view.

“Hello I’m Ben,” The boy said.

“Prince Ben,” This annoying pink princess interrupted. “Soon to be king. I’m Princess Audrey. His girlfriend. Right, Benny Boo?” Ben started shaking everyone’s hands instead of answering. When he got to Zarina, he said: “I was hoping that you didn’t become like this. I guess I was wrong.”

“Probably not the first and probably won’t be the last,” Zarina answered. Audrey looked a little pissed at that. But turned to Mal.

“Hey, you’re Maleficent’s daughter, right? Yeah, I totally don’t blame your mom for trying to kill my parents.”

“Yeah and I totally don’t blame your parents for inviting the entire world except my mother to their stupid christening,” Mal replied.

“Totes,” Audrey said. They faked laughed.

“How about a tour?” Ben asked. They started walking. “Auradon prep, originally a castle built 300 years ago but was turned into high school by my father when he became king,” Ben said as they walked by the statue of his dad. When Ben clapped the statue turned into his father in his beast form. Carlos jumped into Jay’s arms, scared. “Carlos it’s okay. My father wanted his statue to represent how anything is possible.

“Does he shed?” Zarina asked jokingly.

“Yeah my mom won’t let him on the couch,” Ben said, all serious. When the kids entered the prince and princess's school. Ben turned around and told the villain kids more about it.

“So is there magic here?” Mal asked.

“Yeah but it’s pretty much retired,” Ben answered. “We are just ordinary mortals.”

“Who just happens to be kings and queens,” Zarina said.

“Yeah. our royal bloodline goes for thousands of years,” Audrey said, annoyingly. She kept staring at Zarina and Mal as she put her arm around Ben. A teen came down the stairs and Ben called him over.

“Doug. Doug, come down here,” Ben said. Everyone started looking at the new schedules. After they were done, Mal asked about the rooms.

“That way,” Doug said pointing in the direction of the rooms.

“If you have any questions, you can ask me or anyone here,” Ben said to all of the kids. They headed up to their rooms, Zarina having her own since there were an odd number of villain kids who came from the isle. Zarina closed the curtains in her room as the others came in.

“It looks like our room, except it has two beds,” Mal said, looking around. “Don’t even need to change a thing

“Nah, it’s a little too pink for my liking,” Zarina said, turning around to face them.

“I never thought you would say that,” Carlos said, sitting at the desk. “Since you like-”

“Not this much though. Besides, it’s too light of a shade of pink,” Zarina interrupted.

“Okay, let’s deal with that later,” Mal said, annoyed. “We need to figure out how to get the wand.”

“We need to figure out where it is in the first place,” Jay said. There was a moment of silence when Jay said: “The mirror.” Evie whipped it out of her pocket very quickly.

“Okay, mirror, mirror, on- in my hand. Where does Fairy Godmother’s wand… stand?” Evie asked. “In the museum.” She said after she adjusted the picture on the mirror just right.

“How far?” Zarina asked Carlos as he looked it up on his computer.

“2.3 miles,” Carlos answered. They all nodded. They ran out of the room with Mal leading.

Chapter Text

“Jay, that was stupid,” Zarina said as she walked with her friends to their second-to-last class.

“How was I supposed to know there was going to be an alarm around it?”

“Using your brain. It’s one of the most powerful things in Auradon. Why wouldn’t they have an alarm around it?”

“She has a point,” Carlos said.

“Oh!” Jay said, angrily. He started chasing Carlos.

“Boys,” Mal said, rolling her eyes.

“Boys,” Evie said, dreamily as she watched Chad Charming.

“Evie no. He’s too dumb for you,” Zarina said and Mal agreed. They split ways as Evie and Zarina went to Chemistry. The teacher looked up.

“Ok, Zarina, Evie new kids from the Isle. Zarina, you sit next to Chad, and Evie you sit next to Doug,” Mr. Delay said. Zarina rolled her eyes and sat down. Evie just sat down. “Okay class, so today we are going to find out what happens when you mix an acid dissociation with an electromotive force.” Everyone’s eyes except Zarina’s went wide. Zarina had learned this in dragon hall, but Evie was homeschooled. She wrote down Molar attenuation coefficients and handed it to the teacher. He let her leave early. While she was walking in the hallway, she bumped into Ben.

“What are you doing? I thought you had chemistry.”

“Got the question right and I was allowed to leave,” Zarina said, turning to face him.

“Oh, nice. Ummm… do you have any questions for me?”

“Yeah, one. When you shook my hand, you said that you hoped that I didn’t change. How did you even know what I was like before?”

“My father had put cameras around the isle before the villains were put in there. Only my family and Audrey have access to them though.”

“So you guys spied on us anytime you wanted to?”

“Yeah, but we didn’t use it that much.”

“That’s still creepy. And I live with villains.”

“Which is why it’s not open to the public.”

“It doesn’t make it less creepy.”

“Don’t blame you for thinking it’s creepy.” Audrey walked up to the group.

“Zarina! Just the girl I was looking for!” She said, joining the group. “I know how you need help adjusting here so I was thinking we could go shopping!”

“Like now?”

“Yeah. You have remanal goodness class next, right? I don’t think you need that.”

“But that’s the only class I have with all of my friends. So I rather not skip-”

“Just this one time. I promise. Okay, so I think we could change the hair. Keep the pink in your outfits…”

“I have a stylist on the isle who says that the hair matches my personality. I would rather not change it.”

“You sure? I think brown-”

“Yes, I’m sure.” Audrey pulled Zarina away from Ben. She took Zarina to stores where she got her Aurodanian clothes. Zarina made a mental note to ask Evie to help make them more her style. Audrey kept trying to get Zarina to change her hair color but she declined. Zarina got back to her dorm and put away the clothes. For now, she's sticking with her old clothes. The others walked into Zarina's dorm as she finished.

“I know that you hate school but skipping class will make people suspicious,” Mal said, sitting on her bed.

“Oh, I would’ve rather been in class than dragged to stores by Audrey,” Zarina said, leaning against the wall.

“Well, that sucks,” Jay said, smirking. She punched Jay in the arm. They talked until Ben knocked on Zarina's door.

“Hey, I know I already asked Zarina but I was wondering if you guys had any questions.”

“No,” Mal said, looking at everyone. “Actually I have one. Is it true that the wand will be at your coronation?”

“Yes, it is true.”

“Could we sit in the front row? To soak up all that goodness.”

“I’m sorry but the only ones who can be up there are my parents and my girlfriend.”

“Okay thank bye!” Mal shut the door on Ben who started to say something. “I think it’s time for Benny-Boo to get a new girlfriend.”

Notes:

Hello, my lovely readers. So I have been getting so many messages about people wanting to sketch my stories. And as much as I love supporting artists, I'M A BROKE COLLEGE STUDENT! If your artwork is going to cost me more than $40 in TOTAL, PLEASE let me know upfront. I don't have hundreds of dollars lying around to use on artwork. The two rules of asking to draw my story, you have to let me know if you're a commission artist. And HOW MUCH IT WILL BE! I'm working for minimum wage, and my employers are only putting me in twice a week. Thank you all for understanding, and if you don't, too bad. Those are my rules, and I'm sticking with them.
