There’s a lot Ed doesn’t know, lying exhausted and sweaty in a bed too small for two as the crew continues to celebrate above deck. He doesn’t know if this—him and Stede, doing this, right now—was smart. He doesn’t know, either, if he would take it back if he had a chance, or if he’ll even care about the circumstances of their first time after they’ve had their second, their third, their hundredth.

But what he does know—and it’s a real fucking kicker of a knowing, a months-old wound jammed under his ribs that aches and stings and wants with every breath he takes—that he loves Stede Bonnet.
