Chapter Text

Chapter 1

Up high across the City of New York, inside the form Baxter building. Now the head coordinates for Parker Industries, New York branch sat Peter Parker, and his mind was racing. His uncle-in-law's organs were all failing because of a genetic disease, and Peter was trying to find a way to save him. Peter had been looking over the New-U medical procedure, and it seemed promising, but he couldn’t do this, not after what happened at one of the Parker industry’s powers. One of his employees was in critical organ failure, and the only way to save him was to use the New-U procedure, so Peter signed off on it and waited for Jarry to come out the other end alive. And he did his family got him back and he thanked Peter and everything froze. As Jerry shook Peter’s hand it sent Peter’s spider-sense into overdrive. Whatever the New-U had done, Peter’s Spider-sense didn’t like it, and if Jerry was a danger, what could that mean if he did this to Jay? Well lost in thought, his Webware began to beep. He looked over and answered the call.

“Hey, Aunt May,” He said.

“Hey, honey. How are you doing with your research,” She said with a sad smile on her face.

“It’s going, but I still don’t think it’s safe. I,” he paused, trying to find the right words. “I just need more time,” he said.

“Ok, dear, I trust you. Love you, honey,” May said, hanging up.

Peter just sat at his desk, knowing that if he didn’t find a genuine reason for Jay not to go through with this, he would die. He needed a friend, so activating his suit from his Webware, he swung to the one person he knew he could always go to.

Swinging from his web, he made his way towards her. He could never explain it. The pull she had on him allowed him to be Spider-man at some of the lowest points in his life. Mary Jane Watson. He threw himself off his web and flipped mid-air, then shot two webs and pulled himself to the side of her building. He crawled along the wall, making it to her window, to see her sitting peacefully on her couch. He gingerly knocked on her window to catch her attention. MJ turned her head and saw the Mask of her ex-fiance. Mary Jane found this odd Peter and herself hadn’t spoken to each other since before the Regent attack. She went over and watched as he climbed through the window she just opened and saw his body language that something was wrong.

“Peter,” she said. “What’s wrong?” She asked, her beautiful green eyes sparkling with concern and worry.

“It’s Jay. He’s dying, and I don’t know what to do,” he said as he pulled off his mask. She just looked and saw the pain he hid behind his eyes and wrapped her arms around him.

“So let’s start from what happened at the Coffee Bean,” MJ asked as she placed some tea between the two.

Peter began to explain what had transpired in the last two weeks, Jay, Jerry and New-U and the over-added weight of being Spider-Man and CEO Peter Parker, being hated by some for being one or the other, and it hurt. “MJ, I-I don’t know what to do. Jay’s dying, May’s at risk of losing another husband and Jonah is trying to force Jay to have that procedure after all, I’ve done to build my life back up after what Otto did. It feels like the good old Parker luck has finally caught up with me,” Peter said with a tone of discernment. He felt like a failure to everyone in his company and his family.

Mary Jane couldn’t stand this intervene in Peter’s pity party. “Peter, out of everyone I know who you are. A person who never gives up when everyone doubts, so I believe that no matter what people say or do to you. You’ll always find a way to protect those who need it. That’s one of the many things that made me fall in love with you,” She said, smiling.

Peter chuckled back. But when he looked into her eyes, he saw the love and care, and here he was, feeling like he was back in college, falling in love with her all over again. He put his hands on her cheeks and pulled her in for a soft and sweet kiss. It started slow, two old lovers getting reacquainted with each other, but soon it got more heated tongues battling for dominance. Peter picked MJ up and carried her to her bedroom shutting the door with his foot, all that could be heard for the rest of the night was two people making sweet and passionate love together.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Summary:

Peter needs to make a decision. Subject Jay to the treatments of New-U or let his Step uncle continue to suffer in pain. Well spending the night with MJ has left him with more conviction in his decision. He still needs to break the news to Aunt May and Jonah, but of course nothing in his life ever goes as planned.

Chapter Text

Mary Jane has always known she was an independent person and always thought that if she never fell in love, she would be okay with that truth. But then she met Peter Parker, and all those thoughts went away. She could never picture life without him; every time they fought, they always came back to each other, so when she called off the engagement, she could never shake the feeling that someone had taken the decision out of her hands. She felt two hands wrapped around her waist, and she knew from how quickly she fit into his arms that it was Peter Parker. She held a soft smile as she leaned into him. They both felt more at ease whenever they were together. The world seemed brighter when they were together. Peter heard his Webware buzz beside him. He growled as he grabbed it and saw a message from his aunt. He sat up and read. Jay’s condition had deteriorated to the point that if he didn’t get the multiple organ transplants he needed, he would die. Mary Jane read over his shoulder and knew he had to leave. She smiled.

“Go, we’ll talk later,” he said. He looked at her, gave her a quick kiss and activated his suit.

Back at the hospital, we see Jay Jamason and May Parker in their hospital room, in the middle of a conversation.

“Oh, and the condo association approved our bathroom remodel. Finally,” May told her husband.

“About time. Don’t let the contractor lay the tile, though. I’m going to do it myself,” Jay said, giving a weak but happy time to his wife.

“Dear, there isn’t anyone else in the world I’d want doing it,” She said. She got up and brought up Peter’s contact. “Excuse me, honey. I want to check in with Peter. He said he was coming by. You know how I worry about him,” She said as she walked to get some privacy.

“Ha. He’s a grown man, May...and a busy one at that. I’m sure everything’s fine,” May just smiled and turned her head away. “Peter? Where are you? Jay’s taken a turn for the worse. We-we need you here,” she said with a shaky voice.

“On my way, Aunt May. Just fighting traffic,” Peter said, letting go of his line and going into a free fall before grabbing onto a flag pole and flipping onto a bus. He jumped off the bus and shot a web out with his right hand. “And traffic hasn’t got a chance. I’ll be there, whatever it takes,” He said, tugging the web as hard as he could. As Peter was getting closer, he heard someone call out. “STOP! THIEF!” “Great,” Peter thought. “Take care of Jay, May. I’ll see you soon.” Peter was about to turn around and help when a black and red blur caught his eye.

“Hey, man, didn’t mama ever teach stealing was bad?” Peter knew that it was Miles, so he called back as he continued to swing forward. “Thanks, bro. I have somewhere important to be.” He said, grateful to the teen who was like the younger brother he always wanted.

“No problem, man, I got it,” Miles yelled.

And once again, I give New York a reason to hate me for, well… leaving criminals that could be dangerous to a kid. I can’t blame’em. But right now...My problems need to take a back seat. Jay is fighting for his life there. And because I’m the scientific genius of the family, he and Aunt May trust me to tell them what to do. Conventional treatments have a solid success rate. But New-U seems like a sure thing, except Spider-sense says it isn’t. But there’s no way I can, Aunt May, that! Or Jay! Or… Peter was pulled from his thoughts as he saw his brother-in-law.

“Jonah,” Peter said, surprised.

“Parker! How many times have I told you!? The room’s this way, now listen- he’s my father! I don’t know what’s worse: that you keep telling him not to use New-U, or that he listens to you!” Jonah snarled.

“It’s experimental, and there are good, established treatments. I don’t want to do anything we can’t undo. I’ve had Parker Industries’ top minds look into this. They have concerns,” Peter said, trying to make his point to Jonah.

“Which I’m sure I could alley if you let me talk to them... Or review their data. I don’t understand this, Mr. Parker. You paid for us to use New-U on your employee, Mr. Salteres. He’s doing wonderful,” The New-U doctor said.

Yeah, Peter thought. Except I can’t tell them my genuine concern. Every time I’m near him, my Spider-sense goes to eleven. Peter spoke up and voiced his best lie.

I’m sorry, Dr. Clarkson, but the data uses proprietary Parker Industries tech. I can’t give any more details. Look, I understand how you both feel, but can we put this aside for a few minutes? Jay needs us now...and so, does Aunt,” Peter didn’t even get to finish his sentence before Aunt May opened the door.

“Boys! I’m so happy you’re here. And Jay will be too. Come in, come in,” May said happily that Jay was surrounded.

 “HRMPH,” Jonah said upset.

Both men walk into the room and see his uncle-in-law hooked up to all these machines, it made Peter’s stomach turn.

“Well, look what the cat dragged in. You both need a shave,” Jay said to the men.

“Hello, Dad. You’re looking well,” Jonah said.

“Yeah, your-your colour’s improved,” Peter said. He then asked. “How are you feeling,” Peter said, smiling at Jay.

Jay chuckled. “Like a million bucks,” he said with a small weak smile.

“That’s it,” Jonah said angrily. “I can’t do this anymore! Tell him, Parker! Tell him to go with New-U RIGHT NOW! Can’t you see you’re prolonging his suffering? And TORTURING YOUR AUNT!” Jonah said, anger laced in his voice. As he was about to start another rant, Jay stepped in.

“Son, calm down! I’m f--,” Jay didn’t get to finish before he had another attack, causing Aunt May to yell for a doctor to come and help. Doctors began to work on him, asking if he wanted the New-U or the conventional procedure. Jay and Peter chose the conventional, seeing as it had a better track record, then Jay asked Peter for a favour.

“I’ve Stayed upbeat for May. but I’m no fool. I might not have much time here. I need someone to run an errand, and I’d like my wife and son here in case know,” Jay finished, holding his hand for Peter to take. He took it as Jay continued.

“What can I do?” Peter asked.

“In the safe in our apartment, there’s an old family heirloom. A clock that the first Jameson in America brought over from Ireland. My father gave it to me. I want to give it to Jonah. And one day, he can pass it on to his son, John,” he said, closing his eyes to try and collect himself and continue. “I’d like to tell him the as my father told me. While there’s still time. The combination is May’s Birthday. Could you--?” Jay said weakly.

“It’d be an honour. You rest, Jay. I’ll be back before you know it,” Peter said, walking out. He opened his Webware and pulled up MJ’s contact.

“Hey, Pete, how’s Jay,” She asked as she walked into Stark.

“He’s not doing great, and I know we need to talk, and we will. But could you come and sit with May I think it would help if she had another person who loves her,” He asked.

“Yes, of course, tiger. I’ll be there as soon as I can,” She said, hanging up, with a quick text to Tony. She was already out of the building and on her way to the hospital. In church connected to the hospital, Jonah was talking to the clone of his dead wife, asking what he should do, well she was being fed, answers Miles Warren in his classic suit; he knew that the more people that were in Parker’s life that he could control he could finally destroy Parker’s life.

Peter swung his way to May and Jay’s apartment, he opened the safe and pulled the box out. “Wow,” Peter thought, looking over the box. “Pristine condition---it’d mean everything to me, to have something like this from my father. Stay strong, Jay.” Peter thought, webbing the box to his back and jumping out the window. He shot off a web and made his way towards the hospital. “I’m coming.”

Peter ran across a wall, shot a spiderweb forward, and continued to make his way towards the hospital. He shot another line out and was passing a construction site when all of a sudden, he saw the braces snap.

“No, no, no, no,” He said, throwing himself towards the crane.

He heard someone call out the name. He saw someone sitting in the crane and spoke.

“I’m gonna guess you’re Eric. Stay calm. I got you,” he said after he had webbed the crane and sat on the building it originally was secured to.

“And nothing’s got me,” he thought as the glass he was holding broke away.

“Exterior wasn’t strong enough, let’s pray that glider is,” he thought. As soon as his web tightened, screaming in pain, he continued to pull the crane into an upright position.

“Yeah, it can handle the weight all right. Way better than me,” Spidey thought.

“ERIC! HEAR THOSE SIRENS? FIREMEN ARE ON THE WAY. HOLD ON A LITTLE LONGER! Peter said, trying to keep calm and telling Eric he was going to be okay. Bedeep, his Webware, used his mask to filter the call.

 “Aunt May? What?!”

“PETER! Jay’s gotten worse. Jonah says to go with New-U--I don’t know what to do!” His Aunt said in a panic as he could hear the tears in her voice.

“You heard Jay! Th-the conventional procedure,” Peter said to his aunt, straining his voice a little.

“But it was good enough for one of your employees?! You signed off, then! WHY ISN’T IT RIGHT FOR MY HUSBAND?!” Aunt May yelled into her WebWare.

“Mr. Salteres had no other options. Jay does. I--I can’t talk right now...I’m trying to get to you,” Peter said, feeling the muscle fibres in his arms begin to tear.

“You can’t talk? How can you say that? Go on camera, I want to see you!” She said, upset.

“I’m sorry, Aunt May--more than I could ever say, but I just can’t,” He said. May turned back to the doctors and spoke.

“THE CONVENTIONAL PROCEDURE. Please let him be right,” she said the last sentence in a whisper.

Spidey pulled more, just trying to hold on. He heard the firefighters get closer. His WebWare came alive with the voice of his stepbrother. “Parker! Pick up RIGHT NOW! The NewU people are in the hospital! There’s still time! You have to convince your aunt! WE KNOW IT WORKS!” Jonah says, his anger boiling over to the point that he doesn’t care anymore. “Damn it, Parker, this is my FATHER! What if it were your father? Or your UNCLE BEN? WOULD YOU GAMBLE WITH THEIR LIVES LIKE THIS? WOULD YOU?” He screamed in pain as his physical and emotional states got.

“Hurry! My webs only last an hour. And that’s almost up!” Then it hit him that the hour was almost up. “Oh, no--.” He then watched helplessly as Jay’s box fell and crashed to the ground.

“Ziplines secure! Go! Go!” the firefighter says.

 “HURRY!” Spidey said.

“Gotcha!” He said

“And I got you,” Peter said, letting go of his web lines before firing another one and pulling and watching.

“Just in time,” Spidey said as he put them both down

. “My wife thanks you and my kids.

“SORRYGOTTAGO!” Peter said, interrupting the man.

“Where is it--Where. His eyes were pulled to the slightly open gold box. He grabbed and shot a web up and made his way back to the hospital.

“Aunt May! I was wrong! Use New-U! Damn it. Call Jonah Jameson! Jonah go with New-U! Tell Aunt May I said so! Fuck call Mary Jane! MJ, you're my last chance. Tell Aunt May and Jonah to go with New-U!” Peter said, throwing another web out towards the hospital.

He ran through the door and saw his Aunt, who was crying. Jonah was, too. Peter couldn’t even look any of them in the face; it hurt so much. He walked to the table in front of May and Jonah, set the open box down and thought about how he had failed his family again.

Chapter Text

Two weeks later, after Jay’s death, they held a funeral, and all Peter could think about was how he failed. “For all my great power. There is one that I can never stop. Death.”

“Today we say goodbye to Jay Jameson Sr., Author, philanthropist, anti-war activist, husband, father, grandfather and friend. We shall not see his like again,” the priest’s words drowned out to Peter, and his mind wandered to the loss he had experienced throughout his life.

“I’ve lost so many people, I’ve cared about over time. Many on my watch. Some because I failed to do enough… or the right thing at the right time. And now Jay. I know it was from natural causes. For me, that’s rare, but for all of us, it still hurts.”

“Aunt May,” Peter says.

“We were lucky to know him. And for all the time we had with him,” Peter said, doing his best to comfort his grieving aunt.

“I know, dear. I’m just going to miss Jay so. Every day with him was wonderful,” After May said this, Peter felt an arm grab him roughly and the anger that was laced in Jonah’s voice.

“And he would have had more! If it wasn’t FOR YOU Parker! YOU’RE THE ONE WHO TALKED HIM OUT OF TREATMENTS THAT COULD HAVE SAVED HIS LIFE!” John Jameson, Jonah’s son put a hand on his shoulder.

“Dad, don’t, not right now.”

“Jonah, please,” May said, trying to calm the grieving son down.

“I did what I thought was right. I--,” Peter didn’t get to finish before Jonah interrupted.

“Right?! My father suffered needlessly because of YOU! This is on your head, Parker! YOURS!”

“Dad, come on,” John said, pulling away.

“Don’t worry, Pete. We’ll look after Aunt May,” MJ said, guiding May towards the funeral home.

“Thanks, MJ,” Peter said. Then he thought. “This is all my fault.”

He stood still, hands in his pockets, head hung low. “Pete?” MJ asked softly, taking his hand into hers. “Anna took May, and I thought you could use someone to talk to,” She could see the sadness in his eyes and the self-loathing coming to his mind. “Pete, whatever you're thinking, stop it. None of this is your fault. Jay made his decision based on what you thought was right,” She said, cupping his cheek so she would turn and look at him.

“Mj…I need to tell you something,”

Peter began to explain everything, starting with his not wanting to use Jay as a guinea pig. Then he tells her what he did after Jerry and how he signed off on the treatments, then how his spider sense went utterly whack.

“That’s wired. Has it ever worked that way before?” Mary Jane asked, knowing just as much about Peter's powers as Peter did.

“Not really. It only kicks in when I’m in danger; even then, it’s not specific. I wish it were sometimes,” Peter continued to explain about how Jay’s doctors kept pushing for him to get the treatment and how he talked May and Jay out of it, with the excuse that he didn’t believe in the science behind it.

“It was all because I had a Spider-related feeling. I couldn’t tell anyone that. Well except for you,” He whispered the last part before continuing from his last point.

“And now I can’t live with myself crazy right,” Peter said sarcastically.

“Only if you obsess over it. And don’t do anything about it.” MJ said, knowing this song and dance all to well

“Okay, Watson. Spill what should I do?” Peter asked his former lover.

“Get some answers. If Jerry Salteres set off your spider-sense, then you need to follow that lead to wherever it takes you, tiger,” Mary Jane finished, flashing her trademark smirk.

Peter chuckles as he looks at Mary Jane. “I’ve missed you, red. My life hasn’t been the same without you,” He said sincerely.

MJ softly kissed his cheek and laid her head on his shoulder. “Me too Tiger. Me too.”

After the funeral, Peter walked his aunt home, knowing that after losing Jay, she would need time and love. Peter made dinner and carried his aunt to bed. She was silent, tried and cold. Looking into her eyes, he saw the same cold, blank stare the night after Uncle Ben’s, and he was the only one who could take care of her. He was about to close the door when May spoke up. “Thank you, sweetheart.” Peter smiled back at her.

“Your welcome, Aunt May,” Peter said with a smile before closing the door fully.

He looked around and saw the mess sink full of dishes. He smiled and began to fill the sink with soapy water.

Peter locked May’s apartment, activated his suit, and jumped out the window. He swung his way through the city, taking down minor crimes, muggings, drive-bys, attempted break-ins and all the low-level stuff he never gets to deal with anymore. As he gets to the pinnacle of his swing he closes his and lets go. He falls, but to him, everything is standing still. It brings him peace to everything that has happened in the last month and a half. He missed Jay so much. He wished he could bring him back. But Jay wouldn’t want that, and it would cause more pain than good. Shooting out another web from his right hand, he pulled himself forward, wrapped the webbing around his hand and shot one beneath his leg, going towards SOHO. Landing, he looked out on the city, seeing how peaceful it was.

“And here I was thinking it was Miles leaving every Bad guy from here to the Upper East Side wrapped up for the police. But the one thing that tipped me off was the note.” As the voice finished, Peter turned around with a smile.

“Hey Jess,” Peter said with a small smile. They hadn’t talked much since the Spider-verse and Battle World, and that was his fault. He was her friend, and she had to deal with a baby all alone.

“So, what’s a bigshot superhero doing in my neck of the woods?” She asked him.

“Just need to clear my head,” He said.

“Yeah, I heard from Miles about Jay and New-U. I’m sorry.” she said, rubbing the back of her work husband.

 “Thanks,” he said.

“So, I’m guessing that your being back in New York has something to do with New-U technologies,” she asked.

“Yeah,” he said, then his head plucked up in confusion.

“Wait, how did you know?” he asked.

“Pete, I’m a private investigator. People come to me who have had those procedures for their family, and then they all of a sudden disappear after they forget their meds,” she explained.

“Ok, I know I’m asking a lot, but I need you to head down to San Francisco and help protect Horizon University. If New-U isn’t as legitimate as I think it is, then I need someone I can trust. I will pay you.”

“Peter, I don’t want your money,” Peter smiled, but he spoke a bit too soon. ‘I want free babysitting service,” she said with a smug smile.

 “Ok, that can be done.”

The next day after, Peter was in San Francisco, web-swinging his way to New-U technologies.

He shot a web covering a security camera and, using his enhanced agility, jumped up to a vent and began crawling into the building.

Alright, so New-U. There's not much really to go on other than they showed up out of nowhere, only patting their technology last year. Suspiciously, the name on the Patton doesn’t exist. No social security. No enrollment at a university. Nothing, and from the videos Jess has shown me of what happened to the New-U patients who have forgotten their meds, I know who is behind all of this,”

“MJ? I’m in. How's everything on your end? Have Anna and Jess been able to break down the chemical makeup of the New-U meds?” Peter Asked, using his acid webbing to cut himself an exit from the ventilation shaft.

Mary Jane paused as she looked back at the two women arguing over who was the better “Work Wife,” as they had dubbed it, and gave her the best smile and voice she could.

“It's going great, Tiger. They are working wonderfully together.”

“They are arguing over who my real work wife is, aren’t they?” Peter deadpanned.

MJ sighed. “Yeah. Yeah they are. But how did you even know where this place is? New-U is on the very, very down low. Even I couldn’t hack into their servers using Stark Satellites.”

“After My spider-sense went off around Jerry, I snuck a micro-Spider-tracer on him. Lead me straight here,” He said as he repelled from his webbing hanging upside down. The way this room was set up made the hairs on his neck stand on end. He knew what this reminded him of…Warren. Peter hopped that Jackel had died when he and Ben brought down the baseball stadium, and he dropped Ben in the smoke stack.

“Pe-peter?! You-a-break-“ The line cut out, leaving Peter on his own.

“MJ?” he sighed. “Great. Just like when Hobby broke in last week,” Peter continued to walk across the lab, coming up to a tube. His lenses widened as his head showed him that this was where the tracer's signal was coming from.

“Jerry…” Peter felt sick.

“Those eyes, no,” Peter said in his head as he watched the eyes move. “he’s still alive in there…” His spider senses went nuts as he turned his head and saw the man who had caused him so much pain in his life. “Warren?!” Peter jumped from where he was standing and pinned him down to the ground grabbing him by the throat. “I should have known it was you. You sick, twisted FUCK!” Peter threw him into a metal wall, not caring what he broke.

Miles Warren tried to distance himself from Spider-Man, but Peter wasn’t letting him get away this time.

Spider-Man activated his Concrete webbing and stuck him to the ground as he punched him square in the face, causing some teeth to go flying. “Alright Warren what sick game are you pl-“ Peter didn’t finish as he was hit by a blast of lighting sending him flying into the wall. “What the he-“ Peter then felt something metal wrap around his neck as he groaned feeling it tighten. “Oc-ock?!”

“Yes you dolt! Your Greatest advisory has returned!”

Chapter 4: Chapter 4

Summary:

Doc Ock and back and crazy as ever, whatever warren was planning couldn't be good and if he brought back more then one of peters greatest enemies who else did he bring back, is our friendly neighbourhood hero in for a beating or will he be able to stop the jackel and his crazed goons. Meanwhile Mary Jane and the team at horizon University try their best to figure out what makes these clones unstable and how the drugs affect this process while also dealing with a shocking revilation as someone she thought was dead returns

Chapter Text

Peter flexed his muscles as he yelled, flipping back and kicking Doc Ock in the jaw.

“So Warren cloned you, too? Making more cheap knockoffs of my villains,” Peter said as he landed away from Ock.

“Come on, Peter, you know better than that. Don’t think you think its odd I know your secret identity?” Otto asked the angry spider.

Peter didn’t answer as he let lose a hay maker and layed Ock out as he crashed through the wall. “Doesn’t matter, ock, I’ll beat you anyway.”

“Peter?”

Parker froze upon hearing that voice. He had heard it so many times. The voice of his first love. “No, I don’t care how many times he brings you back. Your not Gwen,” he said.

“wait…shes not setting of my spider-sense? Is she not a clone?” Spidey thought to himself as it clicked in his head, and he put his guard down. “Hey Gweny,” He said softly, smiling.

Gwen shook her head as Miles Warren walked into the room wearing a Blood red suit and an Anubis mask.

“Peter its so good to see you my boy. We have so much we need to discuss. Thank you dear Gwen for calming our guest down,” Jackel said with a sick smile.

Gwen cringed softly as she leaned close to Peter. “Follow my lead.”

Peter nodded as Warren lead him through the New-U building. His spider-sense was on fire as he walked past all the clones in the building. Whatever was going on with these clones he knew that they were a danger and he needed to stop whatever Warren was planning.

“You’ve been awfully quiet Peter, You would think seeing the people who died for you would make you happy,” Warren said as he kept leading Peter through the facility.

Peter clenched his fists as he looked around. Hobbie was talking to Jean DeWolf and he felt someone grab his shoulder forcefully turning him around. “Ne-Ned?”

“Spidey, I need to see Betty. I need her to know that I am ok. Please?!” Ned said, pleading with Spider-Man as he grips onto his shoulder.

“Ne-Ned I can’t…”

“Don’ worry Ned. We will make sure you and your wife are reunited soon. I promise,” Jackel said.

Ned nodded as Robert Kingsley pulled Ned away.

“What sick game are you playing Warren. Bringing the people I have lost back to life?” Peter said angrily.

Warren smiled softly. “No trick, just a second chance. For all your sins to be erased,” Warren opened a large steel door, revealing the people they cared about the most. “As today these people are Dead No More,” Jackal said as he began to crackle manically.

Peter’s eyes widened, seeing the people he had lost over the years. George Stacy, Farley Stilwey, Bennet Brant, Fredrick Foswell, Crime Master… Barton Hamilton. “what have you done?!” Peter could hear his heart beating in his ears.

“Hessssss given usssss sssssecond Chancessssss,” Curt Conners said in his lizard form as he walked with his wife and son.

Peter felt his heart ache seeing Billy again. After what happened in his last fight with the lizard. He knew how much Curt regretted killing his son. “Curt? You, of all people, should know what Miles Warren is capable of. He’ll give you what you want and then take it away when you least expect it,” Spidey said to his old friend as he was still reeling from the revelation that the jackal had been cloning everyone who had ever died in his life and bringing them back on a leash.

Gwen looked at Spidey, seeing his rage building. She walked over to her father and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. “Everything okay, Daddy?” she asked sweetly.

George smiled and rubbed her hair. “Everything is perfect, sweetheart. Jackal just had me run a job for him. He's a new person to bring back to life.”

Peter felt his blood run cold as he looked at the coffin the rhino had been brought into the cloning lab.

“So what do you say, Parker? We should join forces. We can bring an end to death. Reverse all of your sins,” Jackal’s smirk became dark. “We could bring back your daughter, your brother, and your un-“ Peter didn’t let Warren finish as he slugged the crazed scientist back over the jaw, sending him flying through a house.

“DON’T YOU FUCKING SAY THEIR NAMES!” Spidey screamed as the Villains rushed at him. He didn’t hold back, activating his Z metal and shocking Rhino and Jack-o-Lantern; he then acted his concrete web and stuck both Barton and Kingsley together, then shot acid webbing at Electro as he sing-shotted himself through a vent and escaped through the vents.

Jackal broke through the rubble as his teeth clenched and began to scream out orders, “GET HIM YOU IDIOTS! NOW!”

Peter crawled through the vent as his Spider-sense went off and he dodged the lizards claws. “Curt, you can’t trust him!”

“He’ssssssss given me a sssssssecond chance with my family Ssssssspider-Man. I finally have a them back,” Lizard hissed.

Peter slips and kicks Lizard in the jaw, sending him down the shaft and webbing him to the wall. “I’m sorry, Curt. I promise I’ll find a way to save Martha and Billy,” Peter continued to crawl his way out of the building.

Horizon University

MJ sighed as she rubbed her eyes. She was trying to keep morale up, but everyone was starting to get tired and burnt out. Anna and Horizen University weren’t getting anywhere with the meds, and she wasn’t anywhere close to finding out where Peter was or where Hobbie was either. She sighed and heard her phone buzz as she looked at her phone and answered. “Peter?! Where are you? Y-,”

“MJ, it’s the Jackal. He’s back!”

Mary Jane froze as she took in Peter's words, his hand shaking softly. “Ar-are you safe? Where are you? I’ll come pick you up,” MJ said, going to grab her jacket.

“No, stay with Anna and Jess. I called Miles. He is going to meet me on the bridge and figure out our next move,”

Mary Jane sighed as she looked around. “OK, Tiger, Stay safe,”

“Will do red,” Peter hung up the phone as Mary Jane turned to Anna. “Any luck with the meds?”

Anna sighed. “Whatever these things are, they’re keeping the clones from breaking down at the cellular level. From the DNA Jess brought back from one of her clients. Their DNA is a mess. Without these meds, their bodies will fall apart and spread a virus. Possible killing us all.”

MJ sighed, looking around. “OK, keep working on it. When Peter gets back, we’ll figure out what we need to do to fix this.” Anna nodded and turned back to her work. She sighed and rubbed her eyes, looking back at the data she had collected.

Rooftops

Peter landed on the roof as he dodged pumpkin bombs and razor bats from the two goblins chasing him. “Come on, Hobby. You and Barton can do better than that. Or are your clone bodies a little slow and decaying?” Peter quipped as he shot his ricochet web, sticking a bomb onto the hobgoblins' glider and causing it to blow up.

The Green goblin sneered as he charged at Peter, using his glider to trap Him to the wall and stabbing him in the shoulder. “Now I’ve got you, Spider,” the Goblin said, raising his knife before he felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Hey man, sorry this is going to hurt,” Peter recognized that voice as Miles. He decamouflaged himself and used his bio-electricity punch to knock the green goblin to the floor. “Sorry, it took so long, Pete. Trying to sneak away from my mum was a pain,” The Younger spider said as he helped Peter up.

“No problem, Miles. Did Jess text you and update you on what’s going on?” Peter asked.

“Clones, Possible apocalypses, dead people back alive. Yep, that sounds like a Thursday for us,” Miles said, chuckling a little.

“Yeah, Anna is working on a possible cure, and MJ is trying to get Tony to pull some strings and quarantine everyone who had a New-U procedure from the general public.” Miles felt a little uncomfortable hearing this plan.

“You sure that’s the right thing to do, man? Even if they are clones, they're still people,” Miles said.

“Miles, I know they are. But they're a danger to their loved ones and the world. I hate having to do this, but it's what needs to be done. At least until we can find a way to fix these people's imperfect bodies or find a way to cure whatever was inflicting them before New-U came into the picture,” Peter said, holding his shoulder. “Also, Gwen is here. Not my Gwen, but the Gwen from Earth 65.”

“What?! Are you sure it was her?!” Miles asked, confused and a little hurt that Gwen wouldn’t call him or text him to tell her she was there.

“I'm pretty sure. Our spider senses linked up for a second. It's her man,” Peter said, walking to the edge of the roof they were on. Look, we’ll save her when we can. Right now, we need to focus on getting to Horizen and coming up with a game plan,” Peter said, shooting out a web, pulling it tight, and swinging to Horizen University.

Miles shot out his own web following his mentor to Horizen University muttering to himself. “Stay Safe, Gwen.”

New-U Technologies Building

Gwen walked through the building as the villains returned from hunting for Peter looking For George as she sighed. Even if this wasn’t her earth or her dad she didn’t want him to get hurt. Sneaking away into a house she pulled out her communicator and called her partner on this mission.

‘Stacy?! That you? Jesus fuck, you missed our check-in. I thought you were found out,” Gwen sighed as he rubbed her forehead.

“I’m fine, Kaine. We,” She sighed. “Peter was here, and he knows about Warren, and he knows that I am here,” She said, making sure no one was listening.

“Shit. That fucks up our plan. Ok, well we got a problem. I’m almost out of clone meds and have no way to get more,” Kaine said over the comm as he rubbed his chin.

Gwen perked up as he eyes lit up. “Kaine, go to Horizon University. Peter said Jess was able to get some from a client,” Gwen said as she heard someone coming. “Shit, Kaine, hurry and get there,” she pulled off her communicator as one of Warrens’s clones came around the corner.

“Gwendolyn? What are you doing back here?” The clone asked.

“Nothing Miles. Just thought I would take a walk,” Gwen would softly kiss the clone’s cheek and bolt away. “Fuck that was too close,” she said to herself, making her way back to her doppelganger’s house.

Horizon University

Kaine Landed in front of Horizon University with the clone. Gwen’s mouth webbed closed as she kicked and squirmed in his grip. Jess, MJ, and Anna walked out to meet him. “Hurry up. She needs to get those meds inside her now, or we’re all fucked!” Kaine said quickly, walking forward and dropping Gwen onto the ground harshly.

Jessica rushed to Gwen’s side, pulling the webbing from Gwen’s mouth. “Are you fucking insane, Kaine? She could suffocate,” she said, helping Gwen up.

“The Jackal will find me, and all of you will be in big trouble,” Gwen said as she glared at Kaine.

MJ was in shock as she looked at her best friend, tears gathering in her eyes. This clone of her friend was acting so unlike Gwen, and it made her heart ache.

“wait, what? This guy in a red Spider-Man suit shows up. Drops a girl on our doorstep and we’re expected to give her experimental drugs?” Aribella asked as she looked at everyone like they were crazy.

“I agree with Aribella Spider-dude. We have no idea what's in these things, and we’re running low on our supply,” Anna said.

“Give her a half-dose, then. It's just something to stop her from zombing out,” Kaine said heatedly as he looked around.

“Ok, scarlet, follow me. Now!” MJ said as she grabbed his arm and pulled him away.

“What Mary Ja-“ Kaine felt Mary Jane’s hand contact with his as he held his cheek. “What the fuck?!”

“For once, shut the fuck up and listen, Parker. I don’t care if that girl is a clone of my best friend. She is still Gwen. My best friend and the first person any of you Parker boys loved. So from now on, you're going to treat her right. Also, where is Peter? Did he get in contact with you?” Mj said in one go of anger.

Kaine sighed, looking at MJ. “No, Mary, he didn’t. Peter doesn’t even know I’m alive,” He said. “Also, I don’t want Peter involved in this,”

“Why?” MJ asked.

“Because in every universe where this has happened, he joins the Jackal and causes the end of the world,” Kaine said.

MJ would scoff at Kaine. “That’s not the Peter you and I know. Especially after what Warren did to the two of us,” MJ would turn on her heel, leaving Kaine behind.

Kaine sighed. “Women. What goes through their fucking heads.”

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Summary:

Peter and Miles arrive at Horizon University to see what progress their friends have made. Well this happens our heroes are attacked and Peter goes to end things

Chapter Text

Peter and Miles landed in front of Horizon University and walked in through the roof entrance as the scientists, Jess and MJ, worked on solving the different problems they were facing.

Miles’s eyes widened at how crazy the atmosphere was. Jess was on the phone talking to the families of some of the clones, trying to explain what had happened to them and how much longer she needed to bring their loved ones home. Mary Jane was staring at the clone of Gwen, not able to speak or express how she was feeling. How was she supposed to be able to talk to her best friend when she had come to terms with her death?

Peter sighed, looking at MJ and walked up to her softly taking her hand in his as he sat beside her. “I know how you're feeling right now, red. You think you’ve finally dealt with the pain, but…then it just comes back,” He said, sighing as he looked around, making sure they were alone before he pulled off his mask. “The way Warren spoke of these clones…like they are reanimated and the real person…but I still can’t see her as I saw Gwen…”

MJ sighed and leaned her head onto Peter’s costumed shoulder. “In a sense Petey. She is the girl we grew up with. But she’s also a different person.”

Gwen lifted her head up to see Peter and MJ holding hands and being close together. It made her heartbreak, unable to comprehend the fact that Peter had moved on from her and gotten together with her best friend. From what she was able to learn about the aftermath of her death. Spider-man disappeared for a few months. People blamed him for her death, and she was buried beside her father and Peter’s Uncle Ben.

Peter sighed as he looked at Gwen getting up. He walked away slowly and held his head in his hands as he pulled off his mask, looking at MJ after they got somewhere private.

MJ could see it. The way his shoulders sagged and how his body and hands shook. “Peter? What's wrong?” She would say, cupping his cheeks as she made him look her in the eyes.

Peter would be trying to keep it together as his mind would be reeling. The thought of bringing Ben back. Little May. “Warren…he’s going to try and bring our baby back to life,” He said.

Mary Jane’s eyes widened with shock as she choked back a sob, feeling the anger and sadness hit her like a truck. “No…no god please no not her…”

Peter cupped her cheeks looking at her. “I won’t let him MJ. I promise I won’t let him get the chance.”

MJ didn’t like the way he said that. Peter was usually calm, cool, and collected, and made jokes. This version she was seeing was scary.

“Tiger please tell me you're just going to stop him. Not kill him,” she said softly to him.

Peter stopped and nodded sighing as he was about to pull her closer when his spider-senses went off. “EVERYONE GE-“ Peter didn’t get to finish that sentence as he was blown backwards into the wall knocking him to the ground.

“BAHAHAHA HAVE AT THEM BOYS. WE HAVE SPIDERS TO TAKE OUT!” Said the green goblin as he flew into the building with Jack-o'-Lantern and Hobgoblin in tow. Peter groaned, pulling on his mask and hitting the alarm closest to him as he looked back to make sure MJ was ok.

“Red, are you red hurt?” He asked with concern.

“I’m fine but you need to get out there and help miles!” she said seeing the young spider-man struggling to get up.

Peter’s lenses widen as he jump from where he was shooting out two webs as he webbed up Jack’s hand causing the bomb to explode and blow up his hand and he kicked green goblin in the jaw not caring to hold back anymore as he used a flying piece of debre and threw it right at Kingsley’s head sending the goblin flying into the wall and for his head to get cut open slightly and bleed. Peter landed and turned to Miles. “Miles, you ok?!” Peter asked, worried, helping him up.

Miles nodded as he groaned softly, shaking his head. “yeah, getting blown up or stabbed has become pretty normal for me over the last two years,” The young spider said with a smirk under his mask.

Peter rolled his eyes. “Maybe I haven’t been as mature as I should be with you. My never-say attitude is rubbing off on you, and I don’t think your mum would like that.” At that time, both the Spider-Men felt the familiar tingle of their spider senses. They both jumped out of the way as metal tendrils shot toward them at blinding speed, and they landed on opposite walls.

Ock growled as he looked around for Parker. He needed that body; he needed the spider’s powers to make his plan to betray Warren come true.

Kanie growled as he attacked the super villain invading the labs, as he looked around trying to find Gwen. If she got away and didn’t have those drugs soon she was a walking plague-carrying monster who could end the world as they knew it. He activated his web warrior communicator and called Spider-Gwen. “STACY WHAT THE FUCK?! WE’RE BEING ATTACK BY THE JACKEL’S CORNIES. WHY WEREN’T WE TOLD HE WAS PLANNING TO ATTACK US?!” He shouted into his wrist as he shot out, webbing to one of the clone villain's mouths cutting off their air supply.

Meanwhile

Gwen was panicking as she rushed down the hallway she was compromised. During peters escape they figured out she was a spy. Apparently, one of the clones that she had passed by saw her communicator and alerted Warren Prime about the switch, which was why she was left out of the loop about the Horizon University attack. “I’ve been compromised, Kaine. I’m making my way to you now,” Gwen dodged as her spider senses flared, warning her of an energy blast from molten man.

“You can’t run lady! Tell us where Miss Stacy is!” Molten Man said shooting another blast of lava at gwen.

“Bite my shiny metal as lava brain!” Gwen said, shooting webbing into the villain's eyes as she jumped through the vents and out of the building, swinging to the horizon.

Back to action

Peter groaned as Hydro Man threw him backwards into the wall. The older spider tried to stand up but was blasted again by the water villain. “Morey…good to see you again. Hey, could I maybe get a five-second breather? There’s thirty of you here and only two of us,” Hydro man seethed as he turned into pure water and sent Spider-Man and himself through the wall out of the building. At the same time, Miles was punched and thrown to the ground by a tech-powered enforcer.

Miles groaned as he spoke. “Spidey is it me or are the enforcers tougher then you said?”

“Well, yeah, they have New-U backing them and giving them high-tech weapons to beat us. Come on, Spider-Man, you know this. Its like bad guy 101.” Peter chuckled, activating his acid webbing, shooting it into Hydro Man as it caused the villain to panic as his molecules separated and created a new compound. Miles activated his camouflage power and moved behind each villain and webbed up Ox and Montana together before shooting out orange venom energy into the Hydro-Man puddle, shocking the last two into unconsciousness.

Peter and Miles looked around at the chaos. All the civilians and professors had been evacuated to a safe area, and the Villains were slowly falling back.

Kaine Parker, the Scarlet Spider, let out a snarl as he broke one of the clone’s necks with his bare hands, his suit torn and cut up in multiple sections, exposing his skin. He was tired, running low on energy and honestly sick of how often he had to deal with Warren. He swore on Ben Riley’s grave when he got his hands on Warren that he would put him six feet under. Kaine was so focused in his anger that he didn’t notice Ock’s tentacle slither around his body and around his neck sticking a needle into him and drawing blood.

Ock smirked as Scarlett thrashed around violently. “No use spider these new arms were created to hold the hulk himself.” As he finished, he threw him to the side, laughing as the other spiders tried to rush him.

“So long dolts, the glory of the Superior Spider-Man shall live once again.” With the protection of his arms, he threw himself upwards and through the crumbling building.

“Um, Pete, we need to move, man. Like yesterday!” Miles yelled as Peter wrapped his arms around his brother.

“I know Miles, I know. Get moving, I’m right behind you.” Peter told his protégé, watching the young spider shoot two webs upwards and swing himself to safety. The older spider grunted, throwing his brother over his shoulder, shooting a web up, and pulling himself to safety.

Mary Jane watched as the building fell apart, her heart pounding in her ears as she kept her eyes out for the red and blue suit she knew. As her hopes fell, she saw the blur come zinging past and land in the crowd. Not caring about what the public saw, she rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him.

“Are you ok?” She said, checking every cut, bruise and gash layering his body.

Peter laughed softly as his hands fell to her back, hugging her just as tightly. “Oh, you know, usually a few broken ribs, a fractured spleen.” He said, smiling under his broken mask as a cut around his cheek was bleeding, and his lenses were cracked.

She smiled softly and shook her head, looking at Kaine. “What are we going to have to do with him?”

Peter sighed as he let the paramedics lift Kaine onto a gurney. “I labelled all spider-people as employees of Parker Industries. No one will take off his mask or run blood without the risk of a lawsuit.”

Mary Jane nodded, looking at his destroyed suit and shaking her head. “You need a fresh costume, Tiger.”

Peter sighed going to tap his webware to fix his suit but she stopped him pulling something from a…backpack?

“Red? What i-.” He didn’t finish as what he saw stopped him. It was his classic red and blue suit. He hadn’t worn this thing in a year and just looking at it got him a bit choked up.

“Peter I am going to say this because I love you. I love you with all my heart and that’s never going to stop. But you look like a damn fool in that suit. This high-tech stuff has never been you. Sure you build things and make gadgets. But this suit isn’t you. It never has been.” She smiled as she said this, pulling his mask off his face and cupping his cheek looking deeply into his eyes as she slowly leaned in and kissed him.

Peter leaned into the kiss his hands tightening on her waist as he pulled back and pulled his old suit on as he swung away to stop Warren.

Warren panicked as he packed up his equipment and began to load it into trucks, his planned had failed. He needed to get out of here before the clones started to break down. One of his biggest failures with this batch was that he had mutated the cellular degeneration within these clones, and if his calculations were correct. They wouldn’t make it much longer on those drugs. He walked over to a pin pad about to activate the two tanks against the wall when he dodged the attack of Doc Ock. “I should have known Octavius,” Warren said with a snarl.

Otto smirked as he circled the jackal, seeing the two tanks. “So my theories were correct. You have been able to create a perfected clone body, “He said, seething.

Jackel laughed darkly as he moved around Ock. “Wouldn’t you like to know,” he said as he attacked the super villain, both of them battling for control of the body currently growing inside the tube as the one beside it had a consistent heartbeat and vital signs.

Peter crashed through the window into the New U Labs to chaos, a video of Warren was playing on the screen as the clones around him melted and burned, crumbling into dust. “Oh my god…” Peter said, shocked, every single person that had been brought back was dying all over again….and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Peter’s blood turned cold as he heard the familiar scream of the woman he once loved with all his heart.

Gwen sobbed as her father died in her arms, his body slowly turning into dust as her own skin yellowed and became leather-like, tears ran down her cheeks as she accepted her fate…she wasn’t real. Just an afterimage of her former self, and sooner or later, death would catch up with her.

Peter felt his chest tighten as he saw this. Memories of both their past deaths flashed through his mind, but he couldn’t stop to help. He needed to save the people outside the complex and ensure this didn’t spread. Shooting out a web, he swung his way up the building, landing in the lab, just as he landed, his spider senses screamed in his mind as he dodged the oncoming tentacle and rubble thrown his direction. “woah!” he yelled as he landed, taking in the scene in front of him.

The lab was destroyed, Ock and Warren were playing for keeps, and whatever was in those tubes was what they were after, they were playing for keeps. Peter kept his head down as he crawled across the wall to the tubes, feeling himself pale as he saw the designation on the one tube. “Subject B-90” is what the tube read. Peter didn’t hesitate he pulled back his fist and broke the tube open.

There lay Ben Riley, his eyes slowly opening as he groaned, looking around, his eyes falling on the familiar red and blue suit. “P-pete?” Ben asked, looking confused around the lab.

Peter smiled under his mask as he helped ben stand. “Hey brother, long time no see,” he said, but both spiders tensed, feeling their spider-senses scream at them as Peter flipped back, pulling Ben with him as they both landed.

Warren let out a scream of rage as he attacked the spiders, swinging wildly as Peter threw Ben across the room to safety, blocking each of Warren's attacks. “DAMN YOU PARKER, DAMN YOU! I COULD HAVE SAVED EVERYONE, BUT YOU HAD TO INTERVENE.”

Peter had had enough and focused his senses and the way of the spider hitting Warren square in the ribs as the punches that followed contacted all major nerves and organs. “YOU WEREN’T SAVING ANYONE, WARREN. YOU BROUGHT BACK THE WOMEN I LOVED AGAIN, USED HER AND HER FATHER FOR A SICK GAME TO MAKE ME JOIN YOU AND HID MY BROTHER FROM ME! YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A SNAKE!” he yelled out, delivering the hardest punch he could, breaking Warren's ribs and sending him flying through a reinforced door.

Peter kicked a bigger hole open for him to walk through as he heard Warren begin to laugh darkly. “Peter, Peter, Peter, if only you knew how much I have controlled your life.” Peter grabbed him by his suit collar, about to finish him, when he noticed the two sleeping 5-year-olds in tubes, both connected to life signs. Peter shook with anger as he chucked Warren across the room webbing him to the wall as he slowly look at the tube. The girls were identical, minus the hair; one had dark brown, the other bright red….Peter knew in that moment who they were; he didn’t need to look at the labels on those tubes. They were his daughters.

Ben groaned as he slowly looked around, seeing the computer, he typed in a few lines of code, opening all the tubes, as Jerry Salteres walked out of the first, along with Hobbie brown, and many other New-U patients.

Peter caught both of the girls in his arms, his fatherly instincts kicking in as he checked their breathing. “Ben, get them out of here!” he said, handing his girls to his brother. Ben could only nod weakly as he began to make his way out of the building.

Jerry groaned, looking around at the lab, his mind wandered as to how he got here or what was going on as he turned to see Spider-Man standing in the doorway. “Spider-Man?” he asked, confused, “How’d I get here?”

Peter chuckled under his mask. “Long story, Jerry, your wife got in contact with my boss and asked me to find you. I-I’m just glad I was able to,” he said, smiling as he helped steady Jerry as he began to lead the people out of the building, not noticing the desecrated corpse of Doctor Octopus.
