"The internship was fake?" "Of course it was fake!"

Summary:

Peter parker's fiel trip to SI, but he doesn't actually have an internship

Chapter Text

It was a perfect Tuesday morning - maybe a little bit too perfekt. Peters alarm went off right on time, and he could actually eat breakfast and get ready for school peacefully. He was even on time for the bus directly to school. Peter couldn't remember the last time that happened - usually, he had to run to the subway and from there to Midtown Tech, which was a huge detour.

The teacher was so surprised to see Parker sitting in class before anyone else he walked right back out again before reentering and asking if he was really there. Peter took that one personally - he wasn't that often late.

So after this perfect morning, something was bound to go wrong. He just wasn't sure what it would be. Peter, for sure, wasn't expecting it to come in the form of a field trip permission slip during Acadec.

"Ned, please tell me I'm reading this wrong, and we're not going to the Avengers tower!"

"Dude, it's gonna be amazing! We get to see the Avengers tower, and omg, you finally have the chance to show everyone that your internship is real -"

"Ned!"

"- Flash is gonna be so mad when he realises that you weren't lying -"

"Ned!"

"- Do you think we're gonna see any Avengers man? Is Black Widow gonna be there? Imagine if Captain America showed up, I think Mr. Harrington would have a heart attack -"

"NED!" Finally, he stopped and looked at his friend sheepishly.

"Sorry, I got a bit carried away... What is it?"

"You do know that the internship is only a cover for Spider-Man, don't you? I'm so incredibly fucked if Flash decides to ask around -"

"- which he will absolutely do -" Mj butted in, still not looking up from her book.

"- then they'll realise I've been lying and will question why I always skip shool!" Peter was on the edge of a panic attack.

"But I thought you gave them paperwork that prove that it's real?" Poor Ned looked like Peter had been speaking an entirely different language.

"I gave them fake paperwork. FAKE." Peters head was nearly as red as his Spider-Man mask was.

"If it comes out that parker here did that he would have much bigger problems than just Flash"

"MJ, that's not helping!"

"What? It's true"

"You know what, I'll call miss Potts. She'll help me" The hopefully that Peter muttered under his breath was to quiet to be heard.

Chapter Text

Peter was nearly braking the phone in his hand as he listened to the ringing sound. Relive flooded him the moment Pepper picked up.

"Miss Potts, I have a problem. Well - not a problem problem, but it's still kinda a -"

"Peter! Has it to do with Spider-Man? Tell me what's wrong." Pepper asked the teenager worried.

"It does have to do with Spider-Man, but not directly? Spider-Man just makes it a bit worse, I guess."

"What's going on?"

"We have a field trip to Stark Industries in a week."

"That's great, but I can't really see what's so bad about that?"

"Well, hypothetically, if a friend of mine used an Stark Industries internship as an excuse for always missing school because of Spider-Man things, what would you say I should do? Completely hypothetical of course!" The boy rambled and Miss Potts was having trouble keeping up with him.

"Peter" Pepper sighed resigned "Come to the tower tomorrow after school."

"You're a livesaver miss Potts
-----
The moment the call disconnected the Ceo made her way to her fiancé's labs. She wasn't surprised to find him hunched of a holographic prototype of some kind with dark bags under his eyes and way to much half full coffee mugs surrounding him.

"If you aren't going to be the death of me, your kid surely will be"

"What did he do this time?" Tony abandoned what he was doing the moment Peter was mentioned.

"Aperently Spideys friend had the brilliant idea to say Peter had an internship with us to cover for him always skipping school. Which wouldn't be a too big problem, if his class wouldn't come here for a tour and none of the interns know him."

Tony sighed, of course something like this would happen.

"Alright, I'll make sure the interns know him so it isn't too suspicious." Tony was already typing out an email on his computer.

"Great, I'll get him an intern badge" With that Pepper left the room and left him to it.

What neither of them took into account was Friday, but she wouldn't do anything to harm Peter in any way. And if the AI saw someone be awful to the boy who would stop her from helping him out a little and giving the other kid a lesson he would remember.

After all nobody would hurt her favorite - don't tell Stark that she said that - and get away with it.

Notes:

I'm sorry that the chapters are so short, I'll try to make the next one longer, but no promises. I absolutely hate writing dialog so it'll probably get less used in the next chapters.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter<3

Chapter 3: Aunt May

Notes:

I'm sorry for not updating in such a long time again, I had a writters block and a few other things going on -mostly with my health, but I also started going to a completely new school where I knew no one.

Good news: I don't need a second eye surgery (for now - pls AO3 authors curse leave me alone), and I only have one doctors appointment in the entire month.

Bad news: I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get a drivers license in the future because I only have 50% eyesight on one eye with my glasses (which I know doesn't concern any of you, but still).
And my chronic pain has gotten so much worse that I'm considering using a cane and have problems writing (that's also why I'm going to keep the chalters short). I'm currently trying to get a hEDS or HSD diagnosis.

I hope you are well and sorry again for not posting in forever. To all people who read it, have fun with whumptober!

Chapter Text

The day of the field trip came way too fast, Peter had to skip Lab Day because he got injured while stopping a kidnapping, and May hadn't let him leave the house.

Sometimes Peter wondered if it was a bad decision to tell Aunt May about the Spider-Man thing, but then he remembered the first time he was lying on a rooftop after being shot and thought he was dying. He could only think about her while he was actively bleeding out. The look on her face when she would undoubtedly find out from the police a few days after he passed away on some random rooftop while being out fighting crime.

How she would slowly connect the dots and figure out that every time Peter tried to convince her that he was fine, he had been injured the night before, and every time he slept in wasn't because he was a teenager and playing video games all night, but instead because he didn't even get three hours of sleep in most of the time.

He knew May would blame herself for not noticing and helping him, so he told her everything - well, maybe not everything, she still didn't know about Mj, and if he downplayed a few things that was no ones buisness.

After a long talk and a lot of tears, his aunt agreed to let him patrol as Spider-Man if he called her or Mr. Stark when something bad happened and he was hurt or in need of help, and they established a curfew.

Right now, he was relieved that he told aunt May.

"Aunt May, so you know about the field trip to the Stark tower today? Could I matbe stay home, you know I have so much homework to catch up on and I know the tower anyway." he asked. She would surely understand him and let him stay home -

"Peter, you know you have qay to many absences already, and I think it will be good for you to not just be in Tony's lab, but instead see the rest of the tower." - or not.

"But -"

"No buts, you're going on the field trip! Have fun."

And that's how he ended up in front of the yellow school bus in the parking lot of Midtown High while clutching a singned field trip slip and staring at it like it had personally betrayed him.

Hopefully, whatever Pepper planned would work out, but who was he kidding she was Pepper Potts. Of course, anything she did would work out.

Notes:

I'm not happy at all with this chapter, but I'm going to try to look it over.

Chapter 4: Note, I'm sorry

Chapter Text

I know that chapters like this are annoying as hell, but I just wanted you to know that it might take me a while to update this fic as my joint pains have gotten worse since I posted the last chapter (I literally could walk yesterday night without holding onto something becauseof it) and I have exams and tests comming up. I'm sorry and I hope you all are well, have a good day.
