Chapter Text

' AND ON THIRD PLACE IN THE UA FESTIVAL, MAY MIKHAYLOV ! Also known as Aim ! '

'any words you'd like to say ?'

'Mmm...'

On a bright Saturday morning, in one of the tall buildings overlooking Tokyo, two young man we're stuck in their office 

"Why did you even turn the tv on, it's so noisy"

"Haha, I don't know... Guess it was a bit quiet... " 

"I'm turning it o-"

'  l'm thankful for my friends and family, they motivate me to keep working harder... And- '

On the tv in a gigantic office, two boys looked up in shock, hearing a familiar voice, one they can't mistake nor forget- because it belongs to their friend whom they've been searching for the last two years- 

The tv that they turned on just so they won't have to do their unfinished paperwork in silence, now showed a familiar face, a face that they've been searching for non stop for two years... The person they've missed so much

Looking at the screen in disbelief- their family, their friend...

"Emma ... ? " They blurted out, shocked, confused but so relieved and happy 

The person they lost 2 years ago, who still has the smile of the sun, it didn't change one bit- still beautiful and warm, and it shined confidently on the podium

ON A WINTER NIGHT

Waking up in an unknown place, she looked around confused, not even knowing where she was, how she got there... or even her name

It was a snowy night, and she probably would have frozen to death had she not been helped by an old man she met

"Young girl... Why are you here on such a night, you'll freeze to death"

Scared, shocked and confused, the girl looked up to the man that was standing before her, tall, with soft eyes and a big white beard, only managing to mutter an 'I don't know'

She looked like she was about to Burst into tears, the man's eyes softened, offered her a stay for the night 

He hung his coat around her shoulders, his home wasn't too far away, he can hold out till then

Walking through the snow, trailing behind him until they can finally make out a little shape of a cottage in the distance 

"Um thanks... Mister..... "

"Alex, Alex Mikhaylov" he smiled as he opened the door "And you are... " 

The girl smiled sheepishly 

"I don't know " at least after getting out of the snow she seemed in better spirits 

Welp that's how she always is, almost never in a bad mood, even if she was, she would still smile for the nice man in front of her who kindly gave her a place to stay 

Looking at the girl solemnly and with a little bit of pity, the girl only gave him a reassuring smile, breathing out a sigh he just ushered her to sit by the fireplace 

"Where did you come from... ?" He asked curiously while they looked through her bag together

"... "

“your family... ?"

"I'm... sorry... " 

"No need to apologize" 

The girl could only look down at the cup the man gave her as tears threatened to fall

"well your not hurt, I'm glad your okay" he reassured even though he was definitely shocked when finding a rifle in her bag yet still no clue to who the girl was 

"There are no villages nearby, and we don't have a signal here right now because of the snow... I can't call for help until spring" 

Her face looked grim, still confused, she feels like a big part of her is missing, there's people waiting for her, but she just can't remember 

"I can offer you food and a place to sleep... You might remember eventually, no need to rush" he reassured 

"Thank you..."

But days turn into weeks, now a month has quickly flown by

"Have you regained any of your memories" Mikaylov asked as they sat by the fire place 

"No... Sorry" she smiled sadly 

And her dreams every night didn't help at all either, every time she looks at her eye shaped necklace she feels something... Someone 

"Emma "

There's people calling me

"Emma "

Calling my name

It feels so good- so warm... Maybe this is heaven 

Maybe... They're my family 

I miss them...

Waking up abruptly from her dreams, tears streamed down her face

Everything was so familiar... Feels so familiar... But-

What was it about again...

She didn't know, she forgot yet again 

The figures in her dreams felt so warm, felt so friendly, felt so motherly 

Again AGAIN AGAIN 

Frustrated, her tears rolled off her face

"No... no. No. NO !" She cried "why... Why can't I ever remember"

Who are they, how does she know them, what was the name they called her by...

She can never remember, even when she dreamt the same dream every night, the night before and the night before that, she forgot yet again...

They called her name, they smiled at her

She definitely knows them, she loves them, they are her family, her friends... her lost memories

But everytime she wakes up, she's only left with an empty feeling and tears to keep her company...

Gathering herself, she went to get a glass of water down stairs 

Catching a glimpse outside, she saw Mr.Alex walking in the snow

She didn't know what came over her, afraid and lonely, she was scared he was going to leave her, he was the only person she has right now

Please don't leave me alone...

She chased after him

Arriving in a graveyard, she stopped just behind the man she's been chasing 

Feeling her presence he confessed, not looking back

"They are my family"

The girl only looked at him without saying a word

"My family, my friends, my home... I lost them" his face darkened and his voice dropped... "I lost them in a villain attack... I alone was left behind "

"That must hurt..."

"Yes. Yes it does" 

They looked up, as far as their eyes can reach only a field of graves can be seen

" They're buried here, as long as I stay here I can feel them... I can still be with them"

Emma can only listen in silence 

"I wish I can help you find them... Your family"

"..."

"Don't you want to see them"

"I don't know... I can't remember "

Looking at her necklace she said "every time I look at this I feel something"

"Every time I wake up from a dream I feel sad"

"Even when I don't remember anything, I long for them"

A hand placed itself on her shoulder 

"And without understanding why- " she choked up, trying to keep her tears in "it makes me cry"

Summer, Emma's pov

Somehow I know clearly, that I won't regain the memories of who I was before

But I'm starting to think it's okay

With my new name and new self, I'll live today and seek out tomorrow 

"May ! " 

The voice came from the kitchen calling me

"Grandpa Alex !" I smiled 

"Can you set up the table please" 

"Yes sir" I ran to the living room to put out the plates

I like my new name, May, it feels warm and sunny, I quite like the sun, I feel free, basking under the warm sunlight, like a heavy burden was lifted from my shoulders

Looking at grandpa in the kitchen, I get a warm feeling inside, maybe it's because I finally stopped having those dreams

...this is probably what family feels like, I smiled

Summer, Emma's ( May ) POV

Somehow I know clearly, that I won't regain the memories of who I was before

But I'm starting to think it's okay

Today's my first time going to the market with grandpa Alex

I looked around in amazement, there's so many buildings, stores, food and people

I stared in awe- people with an extra arm or leg- even a tail, some with different colored skin she has never seen before- like blue, pink or green, even some with cool and special powers

Seeing some little kid shooting water out of his finger tip... So that's what a quirk is

That's so cool...

I read about them from a book in grandpa Alex's cabin, relearning everything thing about quirks is weird feeling- I found it pretty odd how I remember everything I learned from my past, like hard math equations, multiple languages and even how to use a rifle, yet I don't even remember such a simple information like what a quirk is

Reading about it made me want to look more into it, study it, understand it

...but that is a bit hard to do when I don't have one myself

Guess I'm one of the unlucky 20%

I pleaded for gramps to let me go to the library to borrow some books while he goes shopping in the market

"Fine- " he sighed "but don't go anywhere else, I'll come find you when I'm done"

"Yes sir ! "

Skipping into the book filled heaven, a familiar scent hits my nose- the smell of books, nostalgic... I don't even know why, but a wave of sadness filled me up...

I quickly shook the feeling off, happy with the two books on the history and basics of quirks, I quickly grabbed a seat by a window

Third pov （my POV?)

Book after book, time passed rather quickly

The girl sat by the window quietly reading through paragraphs after paragraphs only now noticing the time

The sun was almost setting...

Looking out the window she saw a familiar silhouette

She sprung up and waved at him

'grandpa Alex ! '

The man made his way into the library, shocked by how many books she's gone through in only three hours

"Wow- did you read all this "

"Yup ! " She replied happily, reacting like it's the most normal thing in the world, not like she didn't just read through 7 thick books

"Well... You must like books"

"I do ?" She asked with not much thought, but looking at the books on the table "huh... Maybe I do" she shrugged

"Would you like to borrow some home ?"

"Can I !? " Her eyes gleamed

Look towards the librarian, who smiled towards her and nodded, she quickly found 3 more books she was planning on reading

"Wow missy-" the library said as she scanned the books the girl choose, "I haven't seen such a hard reader in a while now"

"Not much people come to the library these days- I haven't even seen someone read this fast in my 20 years working here"

The girl just smiled sheepishly at her words

"Here" the librarian handed the books to the girl "what was your name again, I need to put it in the system"

" May !" the girl smiled

"Well May , enjoy "

The two waved the librarian good bye and started to make their way back home

"I'm planning to send you to school May... what do you think ?- " the man asked

The girl looked at her grandpa curiously

"I can't really teach you much, you'll get to meet new people, new friends and make new memories "

"School huh... Sounds fun ! But can I !? It wouldn't be too much trouble would it... "

"Definitely not ! School is a must for people your age"

The girl looked uncertain

"Don't worry about anything, I'll take care of it all, you just need to pick what you'd like to do in the future" he assured

"But... What about the cost... And what about you, I WANT TO STAY WITH YOU !" sounding much more distressed than she actually was

The man laughed while the girl just stared at him pouting

"What if people don't like me... I can't even remember how I used to interact with people... "

" Don't worry about the cost- that's not a problem at all" he smiled and patted her shoulder

"May-" he said softly, the girl looked up towards him "the past few months was the happiest I've been in a long time, having another person in the house with me made it feel so lively, especially when that person is you, kind and caring, with that big smile of yours, I'm sure you make tons of friends" he pinched her cheeks

" Really... ? But- "

"No buts- I'll always be here as your family even when you chase your future, having someone to take care of makes me happy, gives me purpose, even more so if it's you, because you've brought me so much joy in these past months, you've become a part of my family, so I want you to have a choice to live your life however you want it and not be grounded by me"

"Thanks gramps !" The girl jumped into his arm and gave him I tight hug "I'll think hard about it ! And I'll definitely make you proud !"

'family' she smiled, that's nice

"Wow- hello May, back again so soon aren't you !" The librarian smiled 

The girl smiled sheepishly holding five books in her hands this time 

"Hello miss Paige"

She had been frequenting the library quite often for the past few months, the last time she visited was just yesterday to borrow books about history

"You're such a fast reader- I'm going to run out of books at this point-" the librarian said as she scanned the books and put it back to it's rightful place 

"either I'm going to have to import new books or you're gonna have to go to the city" she laughed 

"The city ?" She girl's ears perked up, she hasn't been there yet

" Yeah they have a public library in the middle of the city, ten times bigger than my dusty little shop, maybe even more"

The girls eyes shined in amazement, that's a lot of books 

"You should ask Alex to take you there sometimes, that old man seems much more happy now that you're around" 

Maybe she could try asking gramps to go there sometimes...

"Hey... you know...That grumpy man always looked so sad" the librarian said "it's nice of you to be there for him, it's nice seeing him happy"

The girl blushed "no no no it's all thanks to him I get to live comfortably ! I'm also very happy because of gramps! "

On their way back home from their usual trip to the village, holding more books and the ingredients for tonight's dinner 

"Hey gramps... Could I maybe go to the city..." Unsure if he would allow her to go at all, she tried shooting her shot

He looked at her

"Why- do you need something there ?" He asked worriedly "it's pretty dangerous there, a lot of villain attacks happen ..... " His eyebrows furrowing at his last sentence from a bad memory 

" I just... heard from miss Paige, she said there's a gigantic library in the city... And I'd really like to see it"

His eyes soften... Thinking about it- it's the first time she's asked for something 

Contemplating about it a bit, he reluctantly agreed to bring her there 

"Okay, let's make time, but we'll have to leave early since the city is a good distance away"

The girl jumped in joy

"thank you, thank you, thank you !"

Seeing her so happy made him forget a little, just how dangerous the world can be...

Two days later, right at the crack of dawn, you'll see two figures walking out a cabin to a train station in the village 

They'll have to catch the first train to get there with enough time to fully explore the city and make it back before dinner 

On the train Emma looked out the window curiously, seeing so many new things and watching everything move by so fast made her excited 

Her grandpa just watched her silently, occasionally giving a few chuckles here and there

Looking at her eyes gleaming with joy, he thought 

It might not be so bad going to the city

Apon arriving at their destination, the girl jumped up and down in excitement

The library was even bigger than she imagined, filled to the brim with shelves and shelves of books, even computers open to public use along with big wooden desks or chairs everywhere to use while reading or studying

The man chose a book and sat on one of the desks while the girl roamed around picking any book that catches her eye

She sat by her grandpa with a stack of books, the man just gave her a glace, now grown used to her reading ability 

Absorbed in her reading, the man wasn't  even halfway through his book when he saw her get up and grab some more books 

Chuckling to himself at his granddaughter's focusness, her brows scrunched up, she'll definitely do well in school, he thought to himself

At the end of the day the girl sighed finishing her last book of the day, her shoulders relaxing 

" Ahh grandpa Alex ! Thanks for taking me here ! "

"Did you learn a lot today" he asked

"YES ! Definitely !" She beamed 

People turned to the sudden voice in a relatively quiet library and looked shocked to find out one can read so many books in just a day

Rushing to borrow the books she hasn't finished, miss Paige, the librarian in the library she often visits back at the village, gave her her library card so she could borrow more books, so with her card, grandpa Alex's card and the card the miss Paige lent her, she borrowed 15 books in total 

Carrying her 15 books without even breaking a sweat, she talked on and on about her readings while walking back to the train station the girl, the girl wouldn't even let her grandpa carry one for her, claiming it was not heavy at all and he's already done enough by taking her here

He had no choice but to walk empty handed, listening to her rambling about her new found knowledge, when suddenly a scream nearby hit their ears

The girl was suddenly shoved behind her grandpa, he stood in front of her trying to shield her from any danger, trembling a bit himself 

Along with the scream, came a wave of other voices, some shouting to call the police, some yelling and shoving others to get as far away as possible... people just standing there with amusement- watching while they take their phones out

The girl peaked through the crowd, trying to grasp the situation 

... Why is no one's moving, not even one person is trying to help the person getting attacked right now

As if by instinct, she dropped her books and started running 

"MAY ! " Her grandpa yelled, he failed to hold her back

Trying to stop her from doing something stupid, trying to stop her from getting hurt... like his family 

Buuuut- too late...

In her hand, she held a book as thick as a dictionary, and pushed through the crowd 

Preparing to launch herself at the attacker

People grabbed her just time, stopping her, but not before she managed to aim the book straight at the attacker 

It hit him right on the head, blurring his vision

The victim managed to flee, the girl grabbed his hand to pull him in the crowd shielding him from his attacker

Other people going crazy, crowing in front of her, telling her how she shouldn't have done that, it's illegal and leave it to the pros

Blah blah blah

"SO WHAT " she shouted " I WOULD HAVE LEFT IT TO THEM HAD THEY BEEN HERE, I COULDN'T JUST LET A PERSON GET HURT LIKE THIS" 

"You don't have a license " I bystander said

"SOMEONE WAS ABOUT TO GET HURT " she snapped back, she felt someone grab her 

" WHA- !?" 

"YOU- ... You could have gotten hurt" her grandpa pulled her out the crowd 

"Grandpa... "

He looked at her with worry, relief and a little bit of anger ?

"You shouldn't have rushed in like that. " He said sternly, his brows softened to a sad look "you could have gotten seriously hurt "

"But-"

"Let's go." 

"...ok"

A pro hero arrived at the scene just as they were about to leave and caught a glimpse of her fluffy orange hair

"Huh-" he raised his brow, looking at the unconscious guy on the floor, wrapping his scarf around him

"Anyone care to explain-? "

The entire way back home was just...

Silence-

a VERY uncomfortable silence 

Sitting at the dining table just poking her food, the girl suddenly said

"I'm going to be a hero"

"No " 

"Why- " the girl looked at her grandpa, brows scrunched up with confusion... 

"I shouldn't have let you go to the city" he sighed "I knew something bad would happen"

"But I want to save people"

"It's too dangerous" he cut her off

She shouldn't have to get hurt, not like his family... The world is too dangerous

"I can't just stand there..." The girl said quietly

"YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE A QUIRK "

"I CAN DO IT, I WILL DO IT ! I KNOW I CAN... Because ... because I feel like I have to" 

"Please... anything... anything but that" he pleaded 

The look of pain in his eyes hurts her as much as it hurts him... She didn't want to disappoint or sadden him

He is family after all...

But she looked at her eye shaped necklace... She hasn't felt this feeling in a long time... Why did she feel this way- what even is this feeling she's feeling right now ?

Thinking about it more... Why would some random person on the street matter to her ? Why does it feel the need to help them ?

"I want to save people... " She said, barley above a whisperer 

"I can't just let someone get hurt, at least... Not in front of me" she grabed her necklace tighter "I don't know... I don't know... I just- it feels wrong "

"I at least want to have the right to save people... " She laughed bitterly "why is trying to help someone even against the law "

"The moment I rushed to the crowd... I felt like myself... I want to save everyone..."

Her grandpa just took her hand with a look of hurt ? Sadness ? Maybe acceptance... 

"Gramps I'm- "

"It's okay..." He soothed "just didn't want you to get hurt, like... my family "

"I'm sorry-" she spoke quietly 

"No, no... You don't have to be, if... Saving people leads you to finding yourself, if you really want to do it... Who am I to stop you, just promise me one thing" he said sternly "be careful"

From being shocked at his acceptance to a big bright smile on her face, the man laughed, looking at her expressions changing, her happiness was his happiness after all

He sighed as the girl gave him a big BIG hug

"You have to promise me-"

"YES ! YES ! YES ! YES ! I'll work hard ! I'LL BE THE MOST VIGILANT ! THE MOST CAUTIOUS AND MOST CAREFUL PERSON EVER ! ! !"

"You better" her grandpa laughed

With the new goal of becoming a hero Emma-  no no no... May starts her study to become a hero

"Hmm- UA... " The girl mumbled, in the small library while on the computer looking for information on how to become a hero,

"UA ?" Miss Paige peeked from her back "You want to be a hero !? "

"Ahh ! Miss Paige !" The girl beamed "yes ! "

"Are you going to pick that school !? It's the top hero school in Japan- super hard to get in"

"Really!? Well I can at least try..." She sighed

"Well I wish you the best of luck !" Miss Paige smiled

The girl went on with her search

Onwards ! To the day of the UA entrance exam !

After months of preparing, studying and filling out some confusing paperwork, getting herself a new identity along with taking a middle school online course which she proceeded to ace and got her graduation certificate in just a few months

"Are you sure you want to do this" the girl's grandpa asked

" Positive ! " She beamed

" Ok ! Then do your best !" The man said, patting her on the shoulder

"Yes sir !" She smiled

"Go on now !" He ushered her into the school gates

"PLUS ULTRA" she raised her hand up high and ran in

"Plus ultra"

He watched her till she reached the gates then walked to a nearby cafe to wait for her so they could go back together, since the way back home was quite long, quite- quite long- quite as in an 7 hour trip just to get to this city that kind of quite long

"I kinda figured you wouldn't mind me helping you"

"I'm going to get a high score"

"Damn extras"

"I'm getting a stomach ache-"

Around the ginger haired girl are all other aspiring heroes, there's a lot of competition- dang

Arriving at the UA auditorium the girl picked a random seat looking at the paper instructions in front of her, the room quickly filled up, students talking amongst themselves

Skimming through the paper in front of her she didn't notice another student taking a seat besides her

"Hi ! I'm mina !"

Looking up, a girl with pink hair and pink skin, the orange haired girl looked at her in awe

“wow ! You look so cool" she beamed "I'm MAY !"

As they gave their instructions one of the teachers in this school came and explained the practical test to them

He looks like a banana...

"WELCOME ! TO UA...."

A loud banana...

"I'm from Mustafa Private Middle School ! You ?"

She turned her attention to the girl beside her, tuning out the banana's voice, only noting the important parts

"I was home schooled" she smiled

"Wow- that's cool ! Nice meeting you !"

"honestly- I can't believe it- I'm here, I  barely got through the written test" mina sulked "I got 48- how much did you get"

"Full score " the girl grinned and made a peace sign

"HuH !? " The pinked skinned girl shouted in a amazement

Everyone turned their heads

Both blushed and lowered their heads when they noticed everyone's eyes on them

The teacher continued explaining the rules

"Well- that was embarrassing " they both stared at each other and giggled quietly

"I'm so excited !" Our village girl whispered

"Yeah ! I really hope I can do well !" Mina said "I got a friend who wants to be a hero too"

"Wow did you go to the same middle school !?"

"Yeah, he's pretty strong !" Mina smiled "I'm not going to lose to him" she declared

"That's nice"

"How bout you ? Any friends aspiring to be heroes ?"

"Nah- I don't have any" may pouted "there's not many kids where I'm from"

"Well- I'll be your first hero friend ! If I actually get in UA... "

They both chuckled, not even noticing the commotion across the room, someone telling off some other kid for mumbling

"Looks like we'll be heading to different testing grounds"

"Good luck !"

The girls said to each other and went their ways

The school was big for sure definitely lives up to it's top school title

She passed by so many training facilities and mock Cities, even a giant workshop for the support course

...

The school's definitely rich

Reaching her assigned city she was faced with a huge door

Some students were bickering, some were nervous and some were briming with confidence showing off their quirks 

She took a deep breath and focused

"EVERYBODY READY !!!"

This is her best chance at becoming a hero

"3"

A chance to help others

"2"

A chance to find herself and have a new start beyond her lost memories

"1 !"

"I'm going to get in no matter what" she declared under her breath, determination flowing out

"WHAT ARE YOU ALL WAITING FOR !?"

The determined girl ran straight ahead into the mock city, a boy flew by her shooting out explosions from his hands

"GO ! GO ! GO !" President Mic shouted through the speakers "YOUR WASTING PRECIOUS TIME HERE"

The rest followed suit, rushing into the city

Running around the mock city, our girl Emma, looked for weapons to damage the robots , hearing explosion sounds in the distance, she turns a corner 

"DIE ! " 

Stopping in her tracks just in time as a robot flew across her face

Wow- she looked at the robot, laying still on the ground with it's head completely blown off

'PERFECT !' She thought to herself, picking up a metal stick form the blown up parts

Hearing some sounds behind her, she turned to find a one pointer right at her back

She bashed the rod into its presumably neck part, 1 ,looking at the head immediately dropping to the floor with a swift swing, confirming her theory, 'yup- the weak part is at the neck' 

Moving around decapitating any robot in her sight and helping a few struggling students along the way, giving them some tips on how to beat these machines

'this test didn't really count for the students whose quirk weren't the battle type... Maybe they should've held an interview or something' she thought, welp- she didn't have a quirk anyway not like it'll do her any better

It'd be awkward trying to explain why she thinks she can be a hero even without a quirk

AH ! She should just say it's a IQ type quirk, she read that UA's principle has a quirk like that

'Beheading' lol- robot after robot with ease she glanced to the side noticing how some are still struggling even with her advice 

How did I even get this strong maybe it had to do with my past- 

what did I even do... Kill demons for survival ? or maybe... PlayExtremeKillerTagTryingToEscapeAnOrphanageToLiveAnotherDay ? Pshhhh nonsense- hahahahaha

... I might be training to be an Olympic athlete ? yeah- that's way more believable 

“25 points " she fist pumped the air... 'Just to be safe I should get 5 more before the time ends'

She felt the ground begin to shake, suddenly a wave of people came running 

The 0 pointer !

Wow... It's so big... She stood in shock for a moment 

'I should just go elsewhere to get points'

That was the plan... Until she noticed some people were stuck underneath some rubble, she couldn't just leave them ! It's a hero's job to help people 

Using her metal stick as a lever she tried to pry off the piece of fallen building that's trapping a student underneath 

Using all her might, yet it barely moved 

"I'LL HELP !" 

Someone started pushing besides her, with fiery red hair and crimson eyes, the large piece of building let up a little, allowing the person to get free

Wasting no time they immediately moved to the next, some others also gathered to help 

Freeing everyone near the zero pointer's path before the bell, signaling the end of the test, rang 

Sighing a breath of relief when the gigantic robot finally stopped moving, taking a halt right in the smack dab middle of the road 

Teachers and medical robots helped any one still trapped or injured

"I'm ejiro kirishima !" The person who helped her said, wiping the sweat off his forehead while extending his other hand out for a hand shake

"May !" The girl smiled and shook his extended hand, her orange hair was sticking to her forehead, yet her antenna still perking up

"That was real manly of you" the guy smiled "seeing you help others with no hesitation really gave me the confidence I needed to go near that giant robot"

"Wow really !? Thanks ! I definitely couldn't have moved those by myself " she grabbed his hands "You were very manly too !" She smiled, he blushed (lol)

"Well I gotta go !" She let go of his hands

"I hope I can see you again !" She shouted while running back to the hall "PLUS ULTRA ! ! !"

"Plus ultra... " He raised one hand up, looking at her in a daze, watching her run back, stopping a few times to say hi to some students who also help her

"She's so cool" he muttered to himself

Gotta catch the train back ! A girl with orange hair pushed through the crowd, spotting a familiar tuff of pink hair near the other side of the sea of people 

"Ahh MINA !" The ginger shouted across the sea of people 

“MAY ! " the pink haired girl shouted "wait for me by the entrance !"

"HUH !?"

"WAIT FOR ME BY THE ENTRANCE! "

"WHAT ? SORRY I CAN'T HEAR YOU !?"

"ENTRANCE ! WAIT !"

"Oh quit shouting you extras- she said to wait for her by the entrance !"

It was the guy in the same testing ground as her 

"Oh thanks- " 

Finally, after pushing through the crowd they met by the entrance 

"I wanted to give you my number" mina said while taking out her phone

"Oh no..... I don't have a phone "

"Huh !? really !?"

"Yeah..."

"MAY ! " A man with a big beard shouted from afar

"Who's that ?" Mina asked, may peeked behind 

"Ahh ! He's my grandpa !" The girl perked up "sorry- I gotta go, we gotta catch the train back"

"how bout you give me your number... I'll call you if I ever get a phone, oh ! or I'll call you from my house phone !"

"Oh ! Sure" mina started scrambling through her bag for a piece of paper 

" You can just tell me ! I'll definitely remember !"

"Perks of having a full score brain huh !?" The girl laughed "#####.... You better call"

"Ok ! I'll give you a call when I get back !" The ginger smiled and ran to her grandpa 

"BYE !" Our little beam of sunshine waved

"Bye" her new friend waved back as she turned, walking away from view

"Hey mina " 

"Ahh ! Kirishima !" She turned around "what took you so long !?"

"Sorry had to get some treatment, my wrists kinda hurt from lifting too much stuff"

looking at the silhouette of their leaving friend, 'grandpa' they heard her yell in the distance 

"You ok ?"

"Yup ! All good now !" He said while flexing

"Hahahah, Come on let's walk to the station"

"you know there was this really manly girl in my testing ground..." They chatted as they walked back

"GRANDPA !" the energetic girl jumped in her grandpa's arms

"I see you've made some friends" he smiled down to her

“YEAH ! Everyone's so nice !" She laughed "tho there was this one guy, haha, he's always yelling"

"Yeah ! Tho he did help me out" she laughed "we were in the same testing ground, he was super strong"

"And then there's my new friends mina and kirishima !" 

She rambled on about her new friends and experience all the way home

The moment they reached their little cottage, the ginger haired girl excitedly zoomed towards their house phone

Her grandpa watching, chuckling at her excitement 

'OMG OMG OMG' the girl thought, it's her first time calling someone, A NEW FRIEND AT THAT ! 

She quickly pressed in the numbers, giggling in anticipation as the phone rung, the vibration from the phone only added to her excitement 

After a few rings she heard a click sound, the sign someone picked up

"Hello ! This may speaking!"

'Hey ! May ! You actually called' a girl's voice spoke on the other side of the phone 'wow- took you a while to get home huh-'

" Mina ! "

'here I was thinking if you forgot my number !' the girl laughed from the other side 

"I could never !?" The joked in a offended tone 

'haha- a top scorer's brain is a whole new level '

The conversation went on, talking about random things until it was dinner time, they finally ended their phone call promising to call each other again 

Everything few days they call back, talking about random things and how they were so nervous, waiting in anticipation for their acceptance letter

They even met up once, when the girl and her grandpa went to the big library in the city

After some more weeks of waiting, looking out of her bedroom window after she read a book she borrowed, in the distance came a figure, a mailman... A MAILMAN !?

the ua acceptance letter finally arrived ! It must be ! They never get mail !?

May, who was sitting by her bedroom window immediately ran towards the door 

Slamming it open before the guy even has a chance to ring the doorbell, shocking the poor guy half to death 

She immediately signed of the package, after thanking the mailman, she skipped to find her grandpa jumping from excitement 

Holding the futuristic disc in her hand, they watched as it showed a hologram 

All Might ! The number one hero congratulated her on getting in UA, one of the hardest schools to get into 

May's eyes shone in excitement, she's keeping this thing forever ! It's her first step to becoming a hero after all !!!

She placed number three during the practical exam 

She boasted around the house, she grandpa laughing at her carefreeness

"Let's celebrate by having lunch in the village tomorrow" he said, he was proud of her granddaughter, it would be a nice way to congratulate her, and a little part of him wanted to show off to the village about how amazing her kid is

" Really ! I WOULD LOVE THAT !" The new ua student beamed "I need to tell miss Paige all about it ! Ahh ! But first I need to tell Mina !!!!" She stressed as she scrambled to the phone, pressing in the numbers hastily 

'its about time I get her a phone' her grandpa thought 

'GIRL !!!'

"GIRL !!!"

"by the excitedness I'm assuming..."

'"WE BOTH GOT IN ! EEEEE !!!"' they both sequeled in excitement 

"I can't wait to go to ua ! I'm so excited !"

'for realsie' mina beamed 'we're gonna get taught by pro heros ! I'm so so excited !'

"I really wanna become a pro hero as quickly as possible" may dreamed

'oh yeah ! I just remembered ! You know Kirishima right !?' 

''OH YEAH ! we were in the same test ground !? How'd you know him !?"

'lolol he's my friend, we were in the same class during middle school, let me tell you girl- he wouldn't shut up about you lolol' 

"Did he get in !? He was real cool during the exam !"

It will be her first time enrolling in a school, although she wanted to keep talking about their excitement for the new semester they had to end the call soon it was almost dinner time, and she has a long week ahead of her tomorrow 

There's only a few weeks left of their break, and she needed to get settled down in the city and get everything ready to start school 

You can't expect her to travel down a mountain and ride a 5 hour long train to school everyday, right ?

Back to when Emma was found in the snowy mountain

"Everyone ! Wake up !" an excited boy called out to his family "come on- ! You gotta see this"

One by one, they stood up, taking in the sight before them

"Wow ! Look at all those tall buildings"

Somewhere in America

A group of people mysteriously appeared on a small island near the coast 

"It's the human world !"

They exclaimed, in awe at the sight before them

"No demons... ?"

They asked, cautious

"There's people over there ! ! !"

They said in utter joy

"They look so free"

Relief rushed over them in an instant, after who knows how many days, weeks, nights or years of planing, hiding and fighting, keeping one eye open even when asleep

"There are no demons here !"

Everyday living in terror, knowing you might not have a tomorrow

"WE DID IT EMMA !"

That you might never live in peace, or maybe never get to see your friends or family again... you might never see her again

"Isn't this great Emma!"

"Emma ?"

The crowd expected a loud excited cheer along with big hugs and tears from their friend, their family

The person who made this all possible...

"Huh ?"

The person they can't seem to find anywhere right now...

A boy with hair as white as snow slumped to the ground

"Emma's not here..."

He muttered... to no one in particular, more so to himself

His already white skin paled even more

His entire world... The reason he kept going on despite it all... His everything

"Emma ! Where are you !"

"Please answer if your nearby !"

The crowd desperately called out

The boy stayed still on the ground, trying to process everything, hoping desperately that his everything will answer and say

'I'm right here' with her little giggles, then his worries will be all over

"I was careless ..." He muttered

Why... Why !? You said to not bare everything on my own... Yet you did it yourself... How...

Tears threaten to fall from his eyes, but he can't, not now

How could you disappear like this...

The others still need him to be strong, no one knows the challenges of this new world yet...

"Norman..." His best friend put his hand on his shoulder, he himself biting back his own frustration

He pointed towards a ship coming towards them

"I know... Ray"

He picked himself up, both of them steeling themselves for the worst

As it docked, a man came out, he introduced himself as Mike Ratri, Peter's uncle and currently the proxy head of the Ratri clan

The boys stood defensively in front of their family, eying Mr.Ratri questionably

"I'm not your enemy, our clan will no longer harm you children“ he said "we'll take you in"

Ray raised his brow, everyone glared at the man with a skeptical look

"And why would we follow you anywhere" someone yelled from the back

"Climb abord, before things get complicated"

The two boys looked around, crowds were starting to form

It's suspicious, why help them now ?

But it's not like the Ratri's can do anything with such a growing crowd of people

"That's a camera" ray pointed out to some people arriving with huge black machines on their shoulders, most likely reporters

He's read about those before

With those there's not much the Ratris can do to them in front of the public eye

The two boys exchanged a look, Norman nodded for everyone to get on

AT THE NORTH AMERICAN BRANCH OF THE RATRI CLAN

'next, we're reporting on the mysterious children with markings on their neck or stomachs who have been discovered all over the world, causing......'

"We're securing the other children, don't worry" Mike Ratri said, as the news played in the back

"What will you do to them" Norman asked

"First we need to cover up the existence of you... Cattle children"

"You say it like it's an insult" Don's brows scrunched up in disgust, Norman's face remained unchanged, with a polite smile he ushered Don back implicating to just leave this to him

He complied, muttering curses underneath his breath

"We will take responsibility for-"

"GO AWAY !"

"Yeah ! we don't want your help"

Some younger kids roared at the back

Ray and the older kids tried calm them down 

"It was for humanity's- " Mr Ratri tried to say

"BULLSHIT ! What about us !" Thoma yelled in the back, "we lost- " his mouth quick got covered up by Ray's hand

"Enough- let Norman deal with this" he whispered

"But-"

"No- we can't risk having a bad relationship, when we know nothing about this world yet"

"But they..."

"We'll leave that to the future" ray whispered, he gave Tomas a smirk

"YEAH ! We'll show them !"

Some people at the back whisper yelled in union, Ray could finally join Norman at the front

"Can you please calm them down"

"How about we take this elsewhere" Ray leaned his hand on Norman's shoulder

"Yes that would better" the adult agreed, sighing as he lead the boys to another room

Ray glared at the man every step of the way to the other room, a painfully long hallway for some reason, while Norman looked ahead, his face remaining cold with a polite smile that didn't reach his eyes

Seeing as the Ratri was quite a few steps ahead, ray sighed "So there was a reward after all huh... "

His friend turned to look him blankly, but after all those years together he can see right through, that behind that neutral face he was the one stressing out the most

“do you think she was kept behind in the demon world, " His hair cast a gloomy shadow upon his eye (lol cuz only one is showing lolol... sry)

Norman's eyes narrowed, not even wanting to imagine his next words might suggest

"Or maybe she's-"

"No."

That's not going to happen

"If Emma made the promise in those exact words, he can't take Emma's life or keep her in the demon world. She's alive."

Ray cracked a smile "yeah... She won't die even if it kills her"

"We'll find her" Norman vowed as they near the meeting room, his friend silently agreeing 

"Ha, you're making your emperor face" ray joked, nudging his friend, before he entered the room

His friend chuckled a bit before following, sitting down on the couch in the middle of the room

"I'd assume your the leader of the resistance" Mike Ratri said, "Norman" smirking like he did something impressive 

He sat across the boys, only a table in between 

The kids raised their brows at his comment

"Your probably thinking why I know your name," the man said eyeing the boys in front of him "Norman, ray"

Lolol saying that like it was an achievement, least to say, our boys weren't impressed

"Of course I keep track of Grace field's top scorers" he continued "your quite famous in our family for causing us some issues with the demons, welp- what's done is done"

Ray rolled his eyes as the man kept blabbering

"Speaking of which, where is Emma, shouldn't she also be with the resistance ?"

The boys visibly tensed up at his question, one of them glaring at the Ratri

"She's busy with our family right now, but let's get down to business," Norman interrupted with a smile "shall we ?"

If looks could kill, our white hair boi would have been choking the man in front of him, and his raven hair friend would have been stabbing him with his pocket knife, and he would if he could 

"Of course" The man smiled, taking out some documents, ignorant of the two boys' thoughts

"Sign here, here and here. First there are somethings you need to know about this world"

"Is it different from what we've read about in those books ?" Ray questioned as he scanned through the paper

"Yes, far different" the man laughed

What's there to laugh about  ???

"Well the most important thing is that in this world, we humans have evolved a power called quirks, it gifts people with extraordinary abilities, so don't be too shocked when you see some people with an extra set of limbs or tails, but since the children on the other side don't have this ability we didn't send any books likes those over there"

"There's also much more other things on history that you should catch up on, like world war lll and rise of heroes, but you can just do that on the web"

"The web ?" Ray asked, half his attention still on the paper

"Oh- I forgot you had no concept of the internet" he laughed

Who's fucking fault is that ? Not giving us books that were up to date

"You can just think of it like... an infinite amount of books at your fingertips"

"Hmm... Noted" Norman smiled politely 

"Well that's convenient" Ray sighed, settling further in the couch, leaning on his back, already done reading through the contract

An utterly stupid contract if he does say so, you can practically feel the greed seeping out the paper

"You will be staying here" he pointed on a map, the kids will be staying in a building somewhere in the outskirts of a city "while we take care of all your documents, you just need to do whatever we tell you to do"

I'll just quickly get this over with the man thought

"I'd like to oversee the process" Norman spoke out

"Why ?" the man gave him a questioning look then bursted out in laughs "haha it's ok- what can you guys even do to help just sit back and relax, you've been though enough"

Ray laughed out loud "we're not taking any chances, you think we'll just sit down quietly and let you do whatever ?" Waving around the stupid contract the man in front of them wrote up

Utter nonsense, his eyes conveyed, handing the contract to his friend, telling him to read the parts he highlighted

Wow... this is utter nonsense

Norman eyes widened, agreeing completely 

It's stating that they own them ??? Well- kind of, it says that while they will provide what is needed to get by, they also can limit what they say or do in public, and any violation will be met with consequences

The children will work for the Ratri family, and any money spent on the children will need to be repaid after graduation with a 15 percent interest

"What can I even expect from you cattle children," The man sneered "you know nothing about this world !?"

"Well as you know we are the one who made 'this' possible" Norman sighed, unbothered by the older man's comment "the ones who changed the promise while some people were busy shooting down children"

"It's was for humani-"

"Yeah yeah for humanity's sake" Ray rolled his eyes

"I understand you might hate us but please- stop this childishness"

"We don't hate you“ Norman's face remained unfazed "we understand your situation, the world in exchange for a few humans, you've had quite the dilemma on your hands, a rational choice indeed"

"Bright kid, you understand the situation well" the man smirked "so, how about we-"

"And" Norman continued "we also understand that all of James' supporters have been delt with... Peter's man also"

"So ? What are you trying to say" Mike Ratri raised his brow condescendingly

"All that's left are the neutral parties" Ray smirked

In it for the power and money

"Yes" Norman smiled "and I imagine that the Ratri's are a powerful family, no?"

"What's your point kids-" the man glared

"An influential family in military, science research and... politics"

"How did you know-"

"Let's make another contract !" Norman said, lightheartedly, no way in hell they're signing this one "I assume the way to do it hasn't changed in the past 200 years ?"

"What for ?" The Ratri sneered

"Oh ! I assumed you would like to keep our existence a secret ?" Norman tilted his head "you wouldn't want the world to know that you have been sacrificing people for the last 1000 years would you ? I can't imagine what that'll do to your image" he chuckled

The man sweat dropped, glaring at the boys in front of them

So these are the top kids in Grace Field huh ?

"Fine what do you want" he hissed

Ray, catching on, taunted with his trademark smirk "No need to look so threatened", a vain popped up on the elder's head, which only made him grin wider

"We only want to help" Norman assured "we'll do everything to make sure the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible, there is a lot to be done, isn't there ?"

"We'd like to establish ourselves in this world, provide for ourselves if you may-"

The man watched, glaring, as the white hair kid in front of him reached out his hand

"Would you help us ?" Behind his innocent smile, he already started planning his next hundred moves

"Not for free of course !" the boy laughed, seeing as the man across was tense

A game of chess, and unbeknownst to the man sitting before him, he was only a pawn for him, in a game to reach power, the power to provide, to protect, to obtain freedom, and most importantly...

The power to find her
