The conversation between the brothers had not gone as well as Robert might have hoped. It now seemed to have ended before the two men could reach an agreement.
"I have nothing else to say." Gisburne's expression did not bode well, and the younger man took an instinctive step back before realizing it.
"You promised," Robert tried again.
"I promised to help you rescue Lady Marion. But this..." The knight made a semicircular motion with his right hand, pointing to the surrounding woods.
"You were recognized in Clun. You can't return to Huntingdon. You might as well stay here."
"It will never happen," Gisburne replied vehemently. Then he added more softly, "I never intended to return to Huntingdon anyway."
Robert stared at him. He clearly had not expected to hear that. It took him a moment to respond.
"What do you intend to do, then?" he asked with genuine curiosity.
Guy shrugged. "An experienced fighter can find opportunities anywhere," he explained, trying to sound calm. As if he were not talking about his own future.
"Instead of helping your brother, you'd rather go abroad? Away from your family?" Robert refused to believe it.
‘My family? Tell me about it,' Guy thought, trying not to show the pain the word triggered in him.
However, he realized it was not Robert's fault, and he almost felt sorry for his words. But only almost.
