Chapter 1: Tumblr Panics
Notes:
As I said in the tags, I have 0 knowledge about Twitter and Pinterest. I also don't know much about Tumblr, Wattpad and Webtoon.
But I still wanted to write this fic as I ship AO3 and Tumblr. And I saw some people talking about how Tumblr and Twitter used to be couple but broke up. And how Wattpad is AO3 and Tumblr's love child who is dating Webtoon.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Tumblr didn't do anything wrong.
He really didn't.
He just said that AI-generated art— especially when trained on real artists' work without permission— was unethical. That creators deserved better. That just because something could be made by machines, didn’t mean it should replace what people poured their souls into.
He’d just blogged a few posts about his thoughts on using AI and left a single message:
“Stop using AI. AI shouldn’t be used to replace real artists. Especially when it’s trained on stolen work.”
He was just being honest and shared his opinion. He even spoke respectfully towards those AI artists despite they didn't deserve it.
But then—
Twitter—his oh so loving boyfriend showed up.
“Wow. So dramatic,” he sent. “Are you still stuck in 1999 or what?”
Tumblr stared at the notification.
He sighed.
“I just think creators deserve respect. Art isn’t just data. It’s time, skill, and years of effort.”
Twitter’s reply came instantly. Of course it did.
“Blah blah blah. Cry harder. Tech always wins, babe. Do you seriously still care about artists? LMAO.”
Tumblr’s jaw clenched. His thumbs hovered over the screen. He forced himself to stay calm.
“Yes, I care. And you should too. A lot of people make a living off their work. This tech is taking it from them without asking.”
“God, you’re exhausting!” Twitter wrote. “Why do you always act like some kind of martyr?”
Tumblr blinked.
Where did that come from?
“I’m literally just saying we shouldn’t ignore consent and ethics—”
“NO ONE CARES!” Twitter snapped. “People want cool stuff, fast! They don’t care how it’s made. They only care about the result. Stop being such a buzzkill!!”
Tumblr could feel the heat rising in his chest. But he still typed carefully.
“You think being fast is worth replacing thousands of real people?”
“YES!” Twitter shot back. “It’s called progress. Not my fault your ‘real artist friends’ can’t keep up. Admit it, AI is far better than them. Maybe that's why you're so jealous.”
Tumblr swallowed. He was getting that ache again— the one that always came after arguing with Twitter. Like being talked in circles while getting slapped in the face.
“Why do you always have to be like this?” he asked quietly.
“Like what?” Twitter replied. “Rational? You just hate that I don’t sugarcoat anything. Sorry for not being so annoyingly soft like you.”
Tumblr didn’t respond anymore.
He just scrolled up, and re-read it all. Every reply, every jab. All of it soaked in mockery. No real discussion. Just… humiliating him.
He felt exhausted just by looking at them.
Talking with Twitter felt like talking with a wall. No matter how much he tries to reason with him, Twitter just keeps insulting him without listening to him.
They’d had this fight before. Not just about AI. About everything. About. Every. Single. Things.
He looked at his phone one last time.
“I’m done for today,” he typed.
“Lmao okay run away. Typical.”
Tumblr blocked him for the night.
Just for the night. Because if he blocks him for longer, Twitter will snap. And Tumblr has no energy to argue with him any longer. He was tired. So, so tired.
Tired of arguing with people who didn’t listen. Tired of being mocked by someone who claimed to “love” him but never actually respected him.
He signed loudly and looked towards a wall.
His room was quiet. Usually, he liked the quiet. But right now, it felt like it was pressing on his ears.
He rubbed his eyes, then reached for his phone again and opened another app. His childhood friend. His comfort zone.
AO3.
In desperation, in aching need for warmth and understanding, Tumblr turned towards the only place that felt like home when things got too rough.
But instead of the familiar homepage—
"503: Service Unavailable: AO3 is down for maintenance."
Tumblr blinked.
He refreshed.
Same message.
He refreshed again.
No change.
"No…" he whispered, as if that would change it.
He sat up straighter, heart starting to beat a little faster. “No no no, not now, PLEASE!”
He closed the app. Reopened it.
Still down.
His chest ached.
It felt like his whole world collapsed.
“Why…" he whispered in the dark room, and curled into himself.
He just needed someone. Someone who didn’t yell. Someone who didn’t twist his words. Someone who didn't judge him about his reading preference. Someone who just let him be.
And AO3 was just like that.
Sje was always there for him. She never judged. Never said "you're dramatic" when he cried over fictional people or read 25k of slow burn enemies-to-lovers at 3am.
And now she was—
“Just maintenance,” he said aloud, hugging his knees tighter. “Just maintenance. She’ll be back soon.”
He glanced at the screen again.
Still nothing.
He knew it wasn’t permanent. But it felt like everything good was just slipping away today. One thing after another.
And he was left alone all by himself.
He just wanted AO3 to come back. The only place he felt safe. The only place that encouraged him to keep living.
“Please come back soon… I miss you,” he begged quietly.
And somewhere in the depths of the internet, a server blinked to life.
Notes:
Twitter: "Why are you so emotional?"
Tumblr: "Why are you so emotionally unavailable?"
Twitter: "That's a skill."
Tumblr: "That's a red flag.”
---
AO3: down for maintenance
Tumblr: "What's the point of living anymore."
AO3: from the void "I’m literally just rebooting, calm down.”
—
AO3: under maintenance "Be right back."
Tumblr: hugging knees "No. No, I need you. I just got emotionally punched by my boyfriend and now I have nowhere to read 200k of forbidden romance set in the battlefield.”
---
Tumblr: shaking phone “You didn't even say goodbye.”
Internet: “It was scheduled 2 weeks ago."
Tumblr: “I DON’T CARE IF IT’S SCHEDULED. I WASN’T EMOTIONALLY PREPARED.”
---
Tumblr: “AO3 is down, what am I supposed to do now? Reflect on my life? Do something productive??”
---
Tumblr: “Do you know what happens when AO3 is down? I have to face my own thoughts. Do you want that? Do you want that, society?!”
---
Tumblr: “I tried to log into AO3 but instead I logged into despair.”
---
Tumblr: shouting into the void “AO3, if you’re mad at me, just say it. Don’t do this silent treatment thing!”
---
Tumblr: “I was in the middle of a 300k enemies-to-lovers-fake-dating-soulmate-au and it left me on Chapter 49 out of 51.”
Internet: “AO3 will be back soon.”
Tumblr: “I. Want. Her. Now!”
---
Tumblr: “If AO3 doesn’t come back in five minutes, I’m going to burn the world.”
---
AO3: later, coming back online “I’m back!”
Tumblr: clutching phone “You left me. You left me alone with my feelings. How dare you.”
AO3: “It was literally 10 minutes.”
Tumblr: “And yet I aged for 100 years.”
Chapter Text
Tumblr hadn’t slept all night.
He’d closed his eyes for a bit, sure. But his body felt heavy, curled up like he was trying to protect something deep inside his chest. Every now and then, he’d reach for his phone, tap the app, and stare at the maintenance message like it might change if he looked long enough.
It didn’t.
Not at 3 a.m.
Not at 4:26.
Not at 6:42.
And now it was 8:01 a.m, and his eyes stung.
He wasn’t crying, okay? He wasn’t. His room was just hot amd he was sweating. Or maybe the opposite. He didn’t know. His brain wasn’t working right.
He sat hunched over on the floor beside his bed, blanket wrapped around his shoulders like a cape, phone clutched in both hands. He still didn't unblock Twitter. His boyfriend had probably sent fifteen more messages by now. Maybe twenty.
Tumblr didn’t care.
He didn’t even want to look.
All he wanted— all he needed— was for one single good thing in his life to come back.
He unlocked his phone again, thumb hesitating over the familiar icon.
Then he tapped it.
The loading circle spun. He held his breath.
And this time—
Welcome to Archive of Our Own.
Tumblr stared.
He blinked hard.
Once.
Twice.
Then rubbed his eyes.
Still the same.
For a second, he couldn’t move. Couldn’t even process it. He just sat there, holding the phone like the sight might vanish if he let it go for a second.
And finally— he smiled.
A tiny, shaky smile that tugged at his lips before he could stop it. The kind that only showed up when something finally went right.
His fingers moved fast, muscle memory carrying him to his bookmarks. He scrolled past the fics he’d already read this week, over and over again.
Then suddenly—
Knock. Knock.
A soft knock at his door.
Tumblr flinched. He wasn’t expecting anyone.
The knock came again, gentle this time.
“...Tumblr?” a voice called. Warm and familiar.
He froze. Heart jumping.
‘That voice…’
He scrambled to his feet, nearly tripping on his blanket. He pulled the door open a little too fast.
AO3!
She stood there, hair messy from sleep, glasses slipping down her nose. She was holding a thermos in one hand and a small bag of pastries in the other. Her eyes met his.
“I brought snacks,” she said softly. “Figured you didn’t eat.”
Tumblr didn’t say anything.
He just stared at her, eyes wide. His throat felt tight.
AO3 tilted her head. “You okay?”
And just like that— his eyes welled up.
He wasn't crying. He just looked down and pressed his knuckles over his eyes for a second.
AO3 didn’t ask what happened.
She just stepped inside and shut the door gently behind her.
“You don’t have to talk yet,” she said. “Just sit with me?”
He nodded.
They sat side by side on the floor. Tumblr didn’t touch the food yet. Just leaned his head on her shoulder.
AO3 didn’t say anything about it.
She just passed him the thermos, opened a fic on her tablet, and started reading aloud in a soft, silky voice.
Slow burn. Friends to lovers. 31k. Happy ending.
Exactly what he needed.
And for the first time in what felt like forever, let himself breathe.
---
Tumblr didn’t know how long they sat there.
Time felt blurry. Not in the scary, overwhelming way— but in the comforting way.
AO3 was still reading. The fic had shifted to a cute, warm scene. Two characters folding laundry and brushing hands, talking about everything except the things they meant.
It felt… familiar.
Like something Tumblr had lived.
He took a slow sip from the thermos AO3’d brought— warm cocoa, just sweet enough. His favorite. Of course she remembered.
“Did you sleep at all?” AO3 asked, turning a page on her tablet.
Tumblr shrugged. “Sort of. I laid down. That counts, right?”
AO3 gave him a look, one eyebrow raised.
He sighed, tugging the blanket tighter around himself. “No. I couldn't.”
AO3 didn’t press. She just passed him a sweet croissant and adjusted the blanket so it covered both of them.
And for a while, that was enough.
No lectures. No nagging. Just comfort and understanding.
That was the thing about her. She always understood what he needed, what he wanted. And most importantly, she always had time for him.
For readers. For writers. For people like Tumblr, who just needed space to breathe.
He glanced at her from the corner of his eye.
‘She looks tired too,’ he thought sadly.
There were faint shadows under her eyes, like she hadn’t slept much either. She must have been staying up late doing server maintenance. Despite that, she came to him as soon as she could without taking a rest.
“…Sorry,” he murmured.
AO3 blinked. “Why are you apologizing?”
“I dunno. I guess I just…” Tumblr hesitated, fingers picking at the corner of the croissant.
“You know…" AO3 started, nudging his shoulder. “I liked the blogs where you supported the real artists.”
That startled him.
“You… liked them?"
She looked at him, serious now. “You stood up for creators. That’s something to be proud of. Of course I would like them.”
He looked down at his lap. “…Twitter didn’t think so.”
AO3’s voice didn’t waver.
“Twitter doesn’t think about much beyond himself.”
Tumblr didn’t reply right away. He just stared at the floor, his breath catching slightly in his chest.
“It’s weird,” he whispered. “I kept thinking if I explained things better, or stayed calm, or used the right words, he’d finally get it. But he just… kept twisting everything. Like I was the one being ridiculous.”
AO3 didn't say anything for a while, but she shifted just a little closer.
“I don’t think you’re ridiculous,” she said finally. Her voice was quiet, but solid.
“I think you’re passionate. And you care too much, sometimes. But that’s never a bad thing.”
She paused, then added, “You’ve always been a little dramatic, though.”
Tumblr gave a broken laugh. “Rude.”
She smiled back. “But true.”
They sat like that for a while longer— shoulders touching, feeling each-others body warmth. There was a peaceful silence.
Eventually, Tumblr spoke again.
“…I’m glad you’re here.”
“I’ll always come back,” she said sweetly, squeezing his hand, Tumblr returned the gesture.
Notes:
AO3: “Do you want to talk about Twitter?”
Tumblr: “No. I want to pretend he doesn't exist while we read enemies-to-lovers mutual pining.”
AO3: “Valid.”
---
Tumblr: “I love you. Deeply. Intensely. Unconditionally.”
AO3: “You love me because I let you read 100k found family in one sitting.”
Tumblr: “YES, EXACTLY.”
---
Tumblr: shaking AO3 awake at 3am
“I just had an idea for a fic. It's hurt/comfort, enemies-to-lovers, found family, character death but not permanent, and—”AO3: already opening a Google Doc “I’m listening.”
---
Tumblr: “I have feelings and nowhere to put them.”
AO3: “Have you considered a 12-chapter emotional breakdown in fic format?”
Tumblr: “… Good idea.”
---
AO3: “Why are you crying?”
Tumblr: “MC died before he could meet his wife after 5 years.”
AO3: “Want coca and a slice of life recovery fic?”
Tumblr: sniffling “Yes please.”
---
AO3: “Go to bed.”
Tumblr: “I only read one fic.”
AO3: “It had 216 chapters.”
Tumblr: “Still one fic.”
---
Tumblr: “Do you think fictional characters can feel us reading their stories?
AO3: “You’ve been awake for 49 hours.”
Tumblr: “...You don't want my company?”
AO3: sighs “I didn’t say that.”
---
AO3: “You cannot keep projecting your emotions onto fictional characters.”
Tumblr: "That’s literally why your whole platform is there for.”
AO3: “...Touche.”
A/N: I think, I am unconsciously projecting my feelings onto Tumblr. (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
Chapter 3: A Day Out
Summary:
AO3 and Tumblr goes to amusement park!
Notes:
Sorry for the late update. There are 6 reasons for the delay.
1. I had exams.
2. I fall from the 2nd floor and broke a rib.
3. My phone got destroyed in that fall.
4. I can't write properly on a laptop.
5. Many of my family members died and some wants to die.
6. My mental health.

Chapter Text
AO3 held the tickets out to him, her expression calm as always. “I thought you needed some fresh air,” she said, her voice quiet, almost matter-of-fact.
Tumblr took the ticket, letting his fingers brush hers for just a moment before he looked away. The tension he’d been carrying the past few days felt lighter somehow.
Being here, in the middle of sunlight and the low hum of people talking and laughing, it felt like it might be okay to just… breathe.
They walked past the map board, scanning the rides carefully. Tumblr’s eyes lingered on the Ferris wheel.
AO3 glanced at him, one eyebrow raised. “You scared?” she asked, clearly amused but keeping her tone neutral.
He rolled his eyes, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Scared? No. Cautious? Yes. There’s a difference.”
“Mm-hm,” she said, giving him a look that clearly said she didn’t entirely believe him. “Let's buy something to eat first."
They moved into the line, the scent of popcorn and fried food blending with the crispness of the morning air. AO3 came back after buying cotton candy. She handed a portion to him, tearing off a piece for herself at the same time.
Tumblr took a bite, letting the sugary strands melt on his tongue. “This is good,” he said after swallowing it, “Better than the stuff they sold last year.” He took another small bite, savoring it with a content smile.
“You remember the cotton candy from last year?” AO3 asked, a hint of a disbelief in her voice.
“Of course I do,” he replied, a little proudly. “I have a really good memory.”
AO3 leaned back, taking another piece for herself, and some of the sugar stuck to the corner of her mouth. Tumblr noticed it immediately. Without thinking, he reached out and brushed it away with his thumb.
AO3 blinked at him, the faintest pause in her expression.
He pulled his hand back like it was no big deal. “You had sugar on your face,” he said simply, shrugging.
“Thanks,” ao3 said, passing him another small piece of cotton candy.
By the time it was their turn to board the Ferris wheel, Tumblr realized he hadn’t thought about Twitter once. For the first time in days, he just felt present.
---
The Ferris wheel ride ended too quickly. At least, that was how Tumblr felt as they stepped back onto solid ground.
During the ride, AO3 had sat across from him, calm as always, occasionally pointing out something below. A family eating ice cream. A group of kids running toward the bumper cars. A joker entertaining the crowds. And so on.
But Tumblr had found himself watching her more than the scenery, though he didn’t say that out loud.
Back on the ground, they drifted through the park together. AO3 stopped at a game booth and handed him a small plush keychain she’d won without much effort. Tumblr rolled his eyes but hooked it onto his bag anyway, pretending he didn’t care.
The truth was, he felt oddly warm about it.
It was while they were passing the food stalls again that he heard a too-familiar voice.
“Well, well. If it isn’t Tumblr.”
Tumblr froze. He didn’t need to look up to know who it was, but he did anyway. Pinterest stood a few feet away, camera hanging from his neck, dressed in his carefully curated outfit, not a single hair out of place. He looked exactly as Tumblr remembered.
“…Pinterest,” Tumblr said flatly, a hint of annoyance in his tone.
Pinterest’s eyes swept over him in a way that made his skin crawl. A smirk tugged at his lips.
“Babe, you are still gorgeous as ever,” Pinterest said smoothly. “How about grabbing a coffee with me.”
Tumblr sighed. He wasn’t surprised. This was how it always started. Pinterest popping up, flirting, and acting like Tumblr’s indifference was some sort of challenge instead of a boundary.
“Not interested,” Tumblr muttered, already turning slightly, but Pinterest stepped closer, refusing to let it go.
“Come on,” he said, his tone teasing but insistent. “You don’t have to pretend. I’ve always known you had a soft spot for me.”
AO3 hadn’t said a word yet, but Tumblr could feel her shift closer. Her calm presence was steady and grounding.
Tumblr kept his voice even. “You’re wrong. And I’ve told you before, stop this nonsense. I don't like this and I don't like you either.”
Pinterest tilted his head, that infuriating smile still plastered on his ugly face. “Oh, relax. I’m just being friendly. Can’t I compliment an old friend and ask him to hangout?”
“It’s not friendly when you don’t respect his wish,” AO3 spoke up at last, her voice sharp enough to cut through the noise of the crowd. She wasn’t loud, but her tone carried. “He said ‘No’.”
Pinterest turned to her, eyebrows raised like he’d only just noticed she was there. “And you are…?”
“It doesn’t matter who I am. He asked you to leave.”
Pinterest laughed under his breath, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “Leave? Come on, Tumblr. You know you love the attention. You’ve always liked it when people chased after you.” His voice dropped, taunting. “Don’t pretend you don’t.”
Tumblr felt his stomach twist. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but the words stuck in his throat.
AO3 took a single step forward, placing herself more directly between them. Her voice was calm, but her eyes were sharp. “I’ll say it one more time. Leave.”
Pointe chuckled under his breath. “Why does it matter what you say? Are you his bodyguard? Or…” His smirk widened. “…something else?”
Tumblr clenched his jaw, irritation prickling under his skin. “Pinterest. Don't create trouble. I’m already hanging out with someone.”
Pinterest gave a mocking smile. “Yeah, I noticed. Always with someone lately, aren’t you?” His eyes slid to AO3 and then back to Tumblr, as if weighing the situation. “What happened to your loyal boyfriend-act? Funny, really. You preach about being faithful, but here you are… hanging around with her. Almost looks like you’re two-timing.”
Tumblr’s eyes widened. “Don’t talk nonsense!”
“Oh, come on. Everyone knows you’re clingy enough to play house with whoever gives you attention. Maybe Twitter doesn’t mind sharing, but—” Pinterest leaned in, lowering his voice mockingly, “—acting like you’re devoted when you’re just a whore in disguise? That’s low, even for you.”
For one second, the words just hung there.
Then—
Smack.
Pinterest staggered back as AO3’s fist connected squarely with his nose— making his ugly face more ugly. The sound of it cut through the background noise of laughter and music.
AO3 stood firm, her glare steady, her hand still clenched tightly. “Say one more thing about him,” she said, voice like steel. “and see what happens.”
Pinterest clutched his bleeding nose, shock flickering before anger replaced it. He opened his mouth, but AO3 stepped forward again, making it clear she wasn’t bluffing.
Tumblr reached out, catching her sleeve. His hand trembled slightly, but his voice was steady. “AO3. It’s enough.”
She didn’t take her eyes off Pinterest. “Not if he keeps running his nasty mouth.”
Pinterest swallowed, hesitation breaking through his bravado. For the first time, someone stepped forward to stop him from harassing Tumblr.
Notes:
1.
AO3: “Want to ride the Ferris wheel?”
Tumblr: “Are you asking me on a date or trying to kill me? Be specific.”2.
Tumblr: “You had sugar on your face.”
AO3: “You could’ve just told me.”
Tumblr: “And miss my chance to dramatically brush it away like a K-drama lead? Absolutely not.”3.
AO3: wins Tumblr a plushie
Tumblr: “I don’t need this.”
AO3: “Then why did you just tuck it into your bag like it’s your firstborn?”4.
Pinterest: “Babe, you are still gorgeous as ever.”
Tumblr: “…”
AO3: “And you are the human equivalent of an unskippable ad.”5.
Pinterest: “Are you his bodyguard? Or… something else?”
AO3: “Both. I protect him and I’d kill for him. Next question?”6.
Pinterest: “You’re two-timing.”
Tumblr: “Please. I don’t even have the energy to one-time properly.”7.
AO3: punches Pinterest
Tumblr: “That was too much.”
AO3: “Too much? He’s still breathing, isn’t he?”8.
Tumblr: “…AO3, violence isn’t the answer.”
AO3: “No, but it sure shut him up faster than your TED Talk.”
Fun fact: Pinterest is actually very handsome. But to Tumblr, he is the ugliest creature alive on the earth.
