Chapter 1: How i met you
Chapter Text
The early afternoon shift at work today was exhausting to deal with and especially seeing the same familiar faces in the bookstore every day hasn’t caught Grian's interest nor has ever cared at all.
Grian kept staring at the wall clock all day to get it over with during his shift as if to make the time come faster. It made Grian very sleepy without realizing a customer was at the front checkout.
“Well hello there, do you work here by any chance? This is my first time coming here at the bookstore” new unfamiliar customer waiting patiently for Grian to respond.
Grian looks at the new customer surprisedly while awkwardly adjusting his posture toward the front checkout. “I certainly do work here” coughs nervously “Can I help you find a book or look for anything specific today?”
The new customer man laughed a bit from the nervous vibe coming from Grian. “Nothing specific today, I just wanted to purchase a book from this place where I don't usually go.” he smiled kindly toward Grian.
Grian stared at the new unfamiliar face feature he usually doesn’t come across. A tall brunette man with a scar across from his nose, including scars all over his arms and wearing casual comfortable clothes from a dark green button-down shirt with khakis pants, and loafers shoes.
Very odd to wear at the local public bookstore he thought, and especially the man being handsome that made Grian flustered hard despite having scars on the man's body shown.
He needed to know the man's name and who he was. It caught Grian interest…more than anyone has ever been able to comprehend.
Grian grabbed the book from the kind man and started scanning it. “that should be $5.99 for a book and since it’s your first time being in the bookstore here, it’s free for new customers.”
It’s a lie, and knows it’s gonna come out of his paycheck but he wouldn’t mind it. At least he could try to get the man to come back so he could see him over and over again.
He hoped.
The tall brunette man was surprised by the free purchase of the book. “Really? You sure I don't have to pay for the book since I’m new here?”
Grian nodded while giving back the book to the kind man. “Not today, maybe getting discounts if you come back again for another purchase or discount purchase on coffee that’s from the next door shop.” grian lied again under his tongue but worth the risk.
Even if it means making the kind man come back again, and hopefully Joel doesn’t murder him for trying to give him a discount on coffee.
After all, Joel does own the coffee shop with his wife as Grian thought to himself.
“Oh! Well, that’s very sweet of you, maybe I should come back to this place to purchase more books or even a coffee or two haha” the brunette man laughs.
Grian laughs with the tall brunette man.
God…even his laugh is contagious which makes Grian want to continue making the man laugh more at this ridiculous nonsense.
The man laughed, settled down a bit and smiled at Grian. “I should get going before I get late for my interview job”
He waved a bit of goodbye to Grian before leaving the bookstore.
“W-wait!” Grian hesitated a bit as the brunette man stopped walking a few steps out of the door. “I haven’t caught your name yet”
“Scar!” The tall brunette man yelled while leaving in a rush.
Grian stared at the door with mixed emotions. Before Grian could return to his usual boring routine, he was hit hard on the back of the head by a heavy book from his boss.
“GRIAN! You did not just give someone a free book from my bookstore! You better explain what I heard from a distance!” came the voice of the ginger, curly-haired female behind Grian.
Grian looked back at his boss while rubbing the back of his head. “Do you have to hit my head so hard, especially with a book from Shakespeare?… Give me a break, Gem,” Grian responded sharply.
Gem had been a long-term friend of Grian for many years. She always gave him tough love when he needed it the most on his worst days. Gem owned this bookstore that had belonged to her mother, who passed away when she was 15 years old, prompting her to move in with her grandparents.
She had an older brother who was the same age as Grian, but she rarely mentioned him since he moved out with their father when they were kids. Meanwhile, Gem stayed behind with her mother after their parents' messy divorce. It had been years since that happened, but she supposedly still contacted him.
“Why should I give you a break when you just gave a customer a free book? I’m running a business here, and remember that I’m paying you to work here. So explain,” Gem gently placed the Shakespeare book on the table.
“Gem. I’m obviously trying to make new customers come back for more purchases of books and possibly make them tell others about your shop.”
“You’re lying by the way you say it. Is the guy at least cute and attractive enough to make you want to give him a free book?” Gem started smirking at Grian.
Grian sighed as he facepalmed from embarrassment. “Is it that obvious? I mean, he is the most attractive person I’ve ever seen come in here, and in a way, he’s unfamiliar in this area.”
“Interesting. Anyway, Grian… this free book is coming out of your paycheck.” Gem patted Grian on the shoulder. “Also, you’re free to go since I’m closing the shop early because my brother is coming to town, and I promised to help him unpack his stuff at my apartment.”
Gem grabbed the keys from the wall hanger in the office.
“Wait? Hold on. Today is the day your brother is coming to town and moving in? I thought he was coming to town next month.” Grian looked at Gem with a confused expression.
“Yeah, but he has a job interview here since he’s going to start living here, and I haven’t seen my brother since we were kids. I guess you could say it’s a family reunion, even though I always call him.” Gem gave Grian a gloomy smile in return.
Grian went inside the office to grab his messenger bag and walked out of the bookstore with Gem.
“I’ll see you on Sunday morning, Grian.” Gem locked the door and waved goodbye to Grian.
Grian nodded in agreement while waving goodbye back to Gem.
“Sure, I’ll see you at work on Sunday, and enjoy spending time with your brother!” He grinned with a smile.

Grian emerges from the shower wearing a towel and lies down on the couch, pondering about Scar.
“Interview…could that be the brother of Gem I just encountered?…certainly not.” Grian takes a laptop from his messenger bag and powers it on to look up Scar's name and locate his social media.
Grian quickly scrolls down to locate his Instagram account and clicks on it. “Let’s check…Scar GoodTimes is certainly linked to Gem.” Grian keeps scrolling down to discover photos and videos of Scar shared during his travels.
He just shared a photo with Gem from the day of the move. "You exceed my expectations."
"We have the opportunity to connect more deeply and understand one another." Grian takes out his phone to text Gem about visiting her home, hoping to grow closer to Scar.
“I should change clothes if I'm heading over to see him, but naturally I'll be seeing Gem too since they live together now,”
~•~
Grian approaches Gem's place, carrying a wine bottle as a symbolic gesture to welcome her brother moving into her apartment.
Grian's heart raced faster as he approached Gem's apartment, eager to see the tall brunette man from earlier at the bookstore. "I've never felt this nervous and thrilled to meet someone I just barely met..."
Just before Grian was ready to head to the front door, he caught a brief sight of Scar with an unfamiliar person, someone he had never encountered, and definitely not Gem.
Grian glanced through the window to better see and hear who the unexpected person was in their apartment.
"Scar!" “I had no idea you had a boyfriend, and as your sister, I should know everything!” Gem chuckles and gives Scar a tight hug.
“We have been in a relationship for one year.” "I wanted to wait until I felt our relationship was strong, especially with the long distance," Scar responds to Gem's embrace.
"Why the long distance relationship?" Gem responds back
“Hmm…” Scar gazes at Cub in reaction to his answer.
“We connected through an online dating platform, and since I live here while your brother travels places. I wished for him to remain in my town, and he also wanted to bond with his baby sister," Cub smiled genuinely at Gem.
Scar lightly kisses Cub on the lips while grasping his hand. “Why not kill two birds with one stone?” "It’s a winning scenario to be with my little sister and the love of my life."
Grian remained still in silence while he listened to their discussion outside.
oh this can't be…this isn't meant to happen…I fell for you instantly and you're already taken.
you were meant to be mine.
Chapter 2: Sincerely, Mine
Chapter Text
Grian's heart shattered into a million pieces when he heard him mention he was already in a relationship with someone else. The experience of instantly falling in love with someone was a way of finding a soulmate, but now it’s being taken away from him by someone so undeserving.
Grian wanted to run back home and cry till his eyes couldn’t handle it any longer, and an odd feeling he felt was rage. A rage that drives Grian to consider doing something unthinkable to a stranger who destroyed his opportunities with someone he believed to be his soulmate.
Before Grian knocks on the door, he keeps his feelings in check despite the hurt and anger.
Grian gripped the wine bottle firmly and began banging on the door forcefully to draw their attention to unlock it.
“Oh, that must be Grian!” Gem quickly opens the door and hugs Grian warmly. “Scar, meet Grian. My best friend I mentioned before and Grian, this is my older brother Scar with his boyfriend Cub, who helps us in moving his things to my apartment” Gem smiled happily.
Scar looked at Grian, the familiar sight he had seen earlier that day in the bookstore. “Grian?” You're the person I met earlier from the bookstore!” "It’s nice to finally meet you.” Scar gave a hug to Grian.
Grian immediately accepted a hug from Scar. He wished he could hug Scar forever and the scent, a blend of pine cones and lavender on Scar's chest, filled Grian's heart with warmth. He hardly encountered Scar, yet it feels perfect….
“Earlier? Have you two already met?” Gem looked at Grian confused.
"Of course, we have!" “I visited your bookstore before going to my job interview and I occupied my time by picking up a book on architectural design. Grian is such a generous guy for giving me a free book since I just moved here and left early without meeting you, Gem" Scar responded to Gem.
Gem stared at Grian in disbelief. She remembers her earlier discussion with Grian about the mysterious guy at the bookstore.
Suddenly, Cub positioned himself between them and welcomed Grian with a formal handshake, while wrapping his arm around Scar's waist. “Pleasure to meet you Gem Friend”
Grian offers a strong, solid handshake to Cub.
Cub's arm wrapped around Scar's waist filled Grian with an unpleasant sensation in his stomach, making him feel sick and nauseous. He wanted to leave so he wouldn't have to witness anyone holding Scar.
Grian responded back. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too.”
“I noticed you brought wine for everyone, just right for the family reunion dinner I prepared” Gem said as she took a bottle of wine from Grian.
“I realized you were out of wine, so I thought I’d bring a bottle to share with you and your brother as a warm welcome to this town.” “I rode my motorcycle here to get here early” Grian hung his black leather jacket on the coat rack by the door and settled his motorcycle helmet on the entryway table.
"Do you ride a motorbike?" Scar replied of intrigue.
"Sure thing, maybe you can join me as I drive around the town to show you various spots." Grian showed a confident grin in response to Scar's question.
“Most likely no. Riding a motorcycle is risky and might harm Scar, I should take him around my town as a boyfriend should do instead.” Cub gave Grian a disapproving look.
Grian quickly rolled his eyes down unnoticed as he removed his shoes and placed them beside the coat rack.
Gem fills wine glasses for everyone before they share dinner together at the dining table
“So…Grian, you already met my boyfriend at your work from Gem bookshop. Do you simply give away free books to new people or is it something else?” Cub gave Grian a dirty look expression as he sliced into a steak. Before Grian could reply to Cub, Gem interrupted the discussion between them.
“It’s a new slogan for my business Cub, it has nothing to do with Grian if you’re assuming something is going on with my brother.” Gem took a quick sip of the wine to calm the nerves a little.
“Cub… I understand you’re jealous, but you can’t think that everyone I talk to is trying to hit on me” Scar sighs.
Cub grasped Scar hand and nodded in agreement
“You never know. But I suppose you’re correct… I’m sorry for spoiling this dinner" Cub gave Scar a brief kiss on the lips.
Grian hates every single second of their affectionate moments as a couple.
He felt the rage again and imagined the idea of stabbing Cub neck with a sharp knife till he dies of losing blood from touching, and kissing Scar before him.
When night falls, an alarm from Cub's phone rings. “It seems I need to return to work for the midnight shift.” Cub stood up from the diner table and kissed Scar on the forehead as a farewell.
“Already?” “ Why so late…” Scar looked upset at Cub.
“I'm tied up with my schedule, but I’m hoping to have a day off tomorrow so we can explore the town together with Gem.” Cub glanced at Scar and sighed. “You know how my schedule gets, right?”
“If you’re occupied with work, perhaps I can help out” “Especially when Gem is also busy on the day of discounted prices at her bookstore.” Grian responded to Cub's reply to Scar.
“Thanks for offering Grian but I'll be there” Cub hugged Gem. “and thank you for letting me stay for dinner, i appreciated the cooking Gem.”
Cub received a hug back from Gem. “It’s the least i could offer since you help us in moving Scar’s belongings in my apartment, Drive safe at work” Gem sits back down.
“Catch you later, man” Grian gave a formal handshake goodbye to Cub
Cub walks to the door and puts his shoes on again.
“I’ll accompany you to your car, Cub.” Scar stands up from his seat. He puts on his shoes, then steps outside with Cub and closes the door behind them.
Gem waits till the door closes before she sits next to Grian and arm punches him hard.
“Why did you do that?!?” Grian rubbed his arm where it hurt from the sting.
“What do you mean why! The new customer guy was my brother! Who you simply gave a book away for free and on top of that found him attractive” Gem looked disgusted.
“How could I possibly know that he’s your brother and especially finding out he’s already in a relationship with someone…” Grian stared at an empty wine glass, his face reflecting sadness.
“Look buddy, i just found out about this as well but I'm really glad for him, and you hardly know him" Gem gives Grian a pat on the back for emotional support.
“Easy for you to say, when you also fell head over heels with my sister Pearl until you found out the same way about her being in a relationship with her ex boyfriend.” Grian replied.
Gem playfully nudged Grian. “The difference between us is because I respected her relationship, secondly I'm friends with her and i know she doesn’t see me in a way.”
It sparked an idea in Grian. A plan to be Scar's friend and influence him to reconsider his partner, allowing Grian to capture his affection and his heart. The only way for it to succeed is to get rid of Cub, either by breaking their relationship or eliminating Cub entirely.
“You’re right, I should respect their relationship. anyway I should head home since it’s getting dark and there’s traffic to get through.” Grian puts his shoes on and takes his black leather jacket from the coat rack, along with his helmet from the entryway table.
“I agree, drive home carefully and thanks for the wine Grian” Gem waved goodbye to Grian as he left and closed the door.
Grian heads to the parking lot of the apartment complex and accidentally run into Scar.
“You’re leaving as well?” Scar glanced at Grian.
“Y-yeah, it’s getting late and i don’t wanna bother you guys any longer” Grian feels a little shy.
Scar laughs at Grian's response. “Absolutely not! I promise you that you're not bothering anyone. I'm happy I met you and knowing that you're my sister's best friend gives me peace of mind that she has someone like you, so thank you Grian.”
"Thanking me isn't necessary…I'm glad to be her friend and maybe possibly yours as well soon." “Welcome to your new home.” Grian approaches his motorcycle then climbs on, and inserts the key to start the engine.
“Thanks, I might accept your offer to have coffee and getting to know more about you since you’ve been my sister's best friend all those years”
Grian received a genuine smile from Scar.
“Heh, sure we can grab some coffee when you have time. Come to my workplace and let me know so we can go there together.” Grian said as he put on his helmet.
"That sounds great! drive safe on your awesome motorcycle." Scar chuckled a bit and waved farewell to Grian.
Grian waves back and begins to drive away.
Chapter Text
Grian woke up miserably early in the morning, lying on his bed and looking at the ceiling as he thought about last night's dinner.
He didn’t want to get up from the bed, especially crying all night from Scar and Cub's intimacy. Grian felt his heartache from having images in his head of them kissing each other repeatedly like a broken record playing over the moment.
Grian shifted position lying on his side while hugging a pillow for comfort. Thankfully he doesn't have a work schedule today and needed a break by himself without anyone bothering him.
Grian is unsure whether to discuss this with his best friend Mumbo, who is willing to listen and understand or to speak with Joel, who is likely to mock him from this unfortunate situation he’s been put through.
Just before Grian closed his eyes, his phone's ringtone rang out loudly.
“Ughhh” Grian sighed as he grabbed his phone. He hoped Mumbo was the one calling, but he knows him too well. Mumbo is extremely busy with his work today, yet he always makes time for him when it's needed most, just like Gem.
Grian glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Joel who was calling him. He answered his phone and put it on his ear.
“Why are you calling me Joel?” Grian rubbed his eyes and sat up on his bed.
“Mate, where on earth are you?” “Jimmy and I have been waiting for you for like an hour at my house, so we can head to a restaurant and eat breakfast together.” Joel answered the question.
“Hold on a second." “Is that today? I thought it was tomorrow since Cleo was covering my shift that day. Today is my day off, and I wanted to lay in bed without being disturbed by anyone” Grian sounded irritated.
“You actually arranged the date to have breakfast together. It sounds more like a you problem than a me problem and why you seem so down, man.” “Is everything alright mate?” Joel gets a bit concerned.
“You know Jimmy doesn’t like you being depressed. So feel free to tell me what's going on. In the end, we are the bad boys back in high school.” Joel laughs.
Grian puts Joel on speaker phone and heads to the closet to grab an outfit.
“Firstly, Jimmy doesn’t have to worry about me because I'm not depressed and secondly, we can’t label ourselves as bad boys anymore since that was long ago during high school.” Grian puts on a red t-shirt and black trousers while on the call.
“Says the guy who still wears black leather jacket and rides a bike” Joel replied back.
“Because I'm still cool and besides that, Lizzie doesn’t allow you to keep your motorcycle and Jimmy doesn’t know how to ride one.” Grian picked up his phone and walked out the bedroom then headed toward the door to put on his shoes.
"Uh, let me clarify it!” “I needed to sell my motorcycle because Lizzie and I are happily married and we run a cat cafe business together that needs money. Lizzie loves my rebellious look and my motorcycle in high school and you know it! I still have it in me, Grian.” Joel protests against Grian.
“If you say so. I’m gonna hang up now and I'll meet you at the restaurant with Jimmy" Grian ended the call.
Grian sighed once more, grabbed his helmet and keys, and then stepped outside.
Grian enters the restaurant and sees Joel and Jimmy sitting at the table.
"My bro has finally arrived!" "You took your time getting here" Jimmy stood up to hug Grian before sitting back down.
Grian returned the hug to Jimmy, bumped fists with Joel, and then took a seat beside Jimmy.
"I tried coming here as quickly as I could with my bike. How have you and Tango been? any updates? Between you two?" Grian looked at Jimmy.
“Gosh, where do I begin? Next week is going to be the anniversary of being together for 3 years and I was thinking of proposing to him at the party that we've been planning on celebrating with everybody.” Jimmy grinned.
Grian and Joel looked surprised at Jimmy's response to the idea of proposing to Tango.
“Mate! I’m so happy for you dude!” Joel smiled at Jimmy.
“Seriously?! That’s great news, Is Pearl aware of this?” Grian question to Jimmy.
“Of course Pearl knows about this, how else do I find someone who can help me pick out an engagement ring” Jimmy chuckles.
Grian wanted to cry for Jimmy to find someone who could bring him more joy than anyone else. He hopes to have someone like Jimmy with Tango by his side to move forward together in their next phase of the relationship.
Jimmy dated Scott in high school until they unexpectedly broke up, agreeing to remain friends while going to different colleges. Later on, he met Tango and fell in love once again.
It’s what Grian desires, similar to what Jimmy has with Tango. Grian still feels nauseous when he thinks about Scar and Cub again.
“Hey guys, does everybody want their usual” Etho walked by their table.
Jimmy and Joel agreed, while Grian rejected it.
“A cup of coffee would be wonderful, I’m not too hungry.” Grian let out a sigh.
“You sure? You usually order breakfast meals whenever you, Jim and Joel visit here.” Etho glanced down at Grian with worry.
“I completely agree with Etho on this, you seem really off during our phone call before arriving here” Joel said, crossing his arms while leaning back in the chair.
“I’m perfectly fine and for once, I don’t feel like eating anything” Grian said as he looked at Etho.
Etho sighed. “I’ll get your order, but if there's any issue. You know we’re all here for you” Etho says before leaving.
“Or you have me and Pearl, Grian” Jimmy giving Grian a pat on the shoulder.
Grian watches Etho as he walks away.
Grian values having Etho as a close friend, who prioritizes caring for others before himself. Grian doesn’t know why Etho is working at the restaurant for extra money when he’s nearly a year away from graduating college to follow his dream job like Mumbo.
Grian puts helmet on, waved goodbye at Jimmy and Joel before mounting the bike and putting in a key to start the engine. “I’ll see you guys next week at your anniversary party, Tim!”
Grian drives off to the town.
“IT'S JIMMY!” Jimmy shouted loudly. “and he left…” Jimmy gets frustrated and Joel laughs.
“Come on, Jimmy. I’ll take you to Tango’s place because I need to head over to help Lizzie at the cat cafe.” Joel hops inside the car with Jimmy and they drive away.
Grian reached the town and stayed put until the traffic lights changed to green.
He hoped maybe he could drive by in town and see Scar again.
As the traffic lights change to green, Grian sees Scar walking by himself on the city sidewalk. Grian wondered why Scar was wandering the town alone, he believed Scar should be with his partner and exploring the area together.
Grian drives right next to Scar. “Scar?”
Grian startled Scar with an unexpected jumpscare. “Grian! You scared the life out of me” Scar answered while gripping his shirt collar.
Grian stopped his motorcycle on the parkway, removed his helmet, and laughed. “I’m sorry Scar, I didn't mean to scare you while you were walking through the town.” “Could you tell me why you’re alone? Isn’t your boyfriend supposed to be with you and exploring together?”
Scar remained quiet and thought before he could respond to Grian's question.
“Cub is busy. The work got piled up and he couldn’t find time to accompany me, especially since Gem was tied up with her business. Why not just go here alone?"
Grian was not satisfied with that response.
He wanted to choke Cub and make him suffer for allowing Scar to be by himself.
He needs to get rid of him.
Otherwise, Cub will hurt Scar if they remain together. Cub is unworthy of Scar and fails to value the love and affection that Scar offers him on a silver platter. What if he is unfaithful to Scar, what if Cub controls Scar and mistreats him?
Grian's thoughts begin to spiral uncontrollably as he worries about the possibility of harming Scar.
He has only just met the man, and it makes Grian feel insane.
“You could have reached out to me. I can be with you and help you explore the town since I was raised here, you won’t have to be by yourself.” Grian looked at Scar with affection.
Grian wanted to hold Scar's face and kiss him until they couldn't breathe anymore.
“Well, we barely met and I didn’t have your phone number to call” Scar glancing at Grian with a bit of confusion. “I'm a bit surprised to see you in town because Gem mentioned to me that you were going to visit your sister Pearl today.”
Shoot.
Grian totally forgot about that and Scar is unaware that he knows his social media. He also doesn’t want Scar to realize why he’s in town to see him.
He shouldn't get ahead of himself before Scar would raise a question on Grian.
“Oh uh. I was just in a rush to get home because I didn’t ask you for your phone number.” Grian answered quickly before Scar asked any more. “And I'm here because Gem and Pearl asked me to pick up a vodka bottle for a party, so here I am.”
“Ah okay, well I should leave you be then” Scar returns his walking to the sideway. “See you later”
“Hold on, I still have time. How about we ride around town on my motorcycle and stop for coffee to get to know one another?" Grian responded.
Scar stops and turns around again to gaze at Grian.
“I don’t wanna trouble you-”
“I insist.” Grian dismounted and took out another helmet from the rear of the storage then handed it to Scar.
Scar looks at Grian helmet and becomes unsure about taking it. “I'll take your offer on the coffee.” Scar smiled. “I don’t think my boyfriend would be happy about me being on the bike.”
Scar takes the helmet, puts it on, and then jumps on the bike alongside Grian.
"You’re with Gem’s closest friend, I promise you’ll be safe." Grian placed the helmet back on.
“Thanks Grian” Scar grips firmly around Grian's waist.
“What are friends for?” Grian revved the motorcycle engine and rode off once more.

Chapter Text
The entire afternoon spent with Scar exploring different spots in the town felt incredible. Whenever Scar holds Grian's waist during a bike ride, it sends Grian's heart racing and fills him with butterflies in his stomach.
Grian wished Scar was his.
His only and no one else's.
The only way to get closer to Scar is pretending to be his friend.
Grian stopped his motorcycle and switched off the engine. "Let's go to the nearby bar and have some drinks, so we can talk more about one another." Grian removes his helmet. “I’ll pay for the drinks, it’s my offer to you.” Grian smiles at Scar.
Scar removed his helmet too. “If you say so, I don’t mind and I appreciate the tour, Grian,” Scar responded with a sincere smile.
Before Scar dismounts the motorcycle, he receives a phone call from Cub.
Scar takes out his phone from the pocket. “Hey Grian, you go ahead to the bar, my boyfriend is calling me. I’ll be there when I'm done.”
"I'll be waiting for you by the corner of the building" Grian says as he walks to the corner and takes a peek to spy on Scar for a bit.
Scar answered the phone call. “Hey Cubby wubby! Is everything fine at your job?”
“Scar, where have you been?” “I left work early to be there, but you’re not at Gem’s apartment, and it’s been hours since you haven’t come home” Cub sounded worried.
“Oh! I sort of decided to go to the town by myself but guess what, baby! I passed by Grian and helped me with the tour. We rode on his motorcycle, and it was really awesome! I wish you could be here with me.” Scar sounds happy.
“A motorcycle with Grian?! Scar, what on earth was going through your mind? You need to return to the apartment immediately. "I feel uneasy about Grian being near you; I just have a weird vibe about him, especially when he’s close to you” Cub sighed.
“He's been a friend of my sister for a long time, and I can't return to the apartment yet because Grian offering beverages for us to get to know each other.”
“So you would rather be with Grian instead of me.” Cub waits for Scar to answer.
“Cub, you mean the world to me, but I can’t pick you over someone I've just met. We're only going to get to know each other, and that's all.” Scar responded.
“Basically choosing Grian first then your partner.” Cub becomes somewhat annoyed from the response.
“Absolutely not! You’re removing everything from con-”
Cub ends the call with Scar.
“Context.” Scar lets out a sigh as he places his phone back into his pocket.
Grian looks at Scar smile kind of faded but quickly changes his expression as Scar approaches him.
“Is everything okay?” Grian stared at Scar.
“Perfectly fine Grian, let’s head to the bar and enjoy ourselves” Scar smiled
Before Scar heads to the nearby bar, Grian takes hold of Scar's arm and yanks him back a bit. “Scar, you can share with me...you seem upset, just be truthful with me. I’m your buddy”
“I…” Scar begins to speak but then shuts his mouth. "I just had a silly fight with my boyfriend, as always."
"Is he...?" Grian is concerned.
“Oh no, Cub would never hurt me or lay a hand on me. Cub becomes jealous whenever I'm with a girl or a guy close to me, and he tends to misunderstand the situation. He’s consistently been this way for a year during our time together, particularly while maintaining a long-distance connection online, but I promise you he’ll move past it.” Scar laughs and places his hand on Grian's shoulder.
“Oh, well I'm glad to hear that, but hold on, he gets jealous whenever you're near a female or male?” Grian looked confused.
“I'm bisexual, Grian. I'm not entirely gay since I'm also drawn to females as well” Scar replied.
That changes everything as Grian thought to himself. He not only has to be concerned about a guy taking Scar but also fears a girl might take him too.
“What about you, Grian? Any interest on girls or?...” Scar enters the local bar with Grian and takes a seat at a corner table beside a window next to them.
“Men’s for sure. I have no interest in females, just like how my younger brother doesn’t have interest in them as well and meanwhile my sister is straight or possibly bi, but I'm uncertain.” Grian is seated at the table facing Scar.
A bartender serves drinks to Grian and Scar and then walks away.
“Wait, we haven’t ordered this?” Scar grab margarita drink.
“I already paid for it while you were on the phone with your boyfriend. Besides, I have two friends who own this well known local bar” Grian takes a beer and sips it.
“Friends?” Scar takes a tiny sip of the margarita.
"Impulse and Skizz are somewhat like father figures to both me and Gem." "So…how do you feel living here and staying with your sister? I haven't spotted you visiting” Grian continues drinking.
“Good, it’s like I have a chance to be with my sister. geez this drink is a bit strong” Scar coughs a bit.
"You're not a drinker, I see and I'm glad you have a chance to rebuild your relationship with her. Gem told me everything about your parents' divorce that led to you both living separately." Grian looks at Scar.
"Y-yeah, our father was part of the reason why they divorced. He was filled with jealousy, and it got to the point where he locked my mother in the basement so she couldn't leave. I-" Scar grips the margarita glass.
Grian holds Scar's hand.
"You did everything to protect your mom and Gem...Gem told me everything about you being her hero. Gem doesn't even know why you left with your awful dad-" before Grian can continue, Scar cuts him off.
"He's my dad, Grian. I know he was awful, but he needed help and was taking therapy for it" Scar sighed.
Grian glanced at Scar’s arms marked with scars and then at the facial scar running across his nose. "He hurt you."
Scar looked away from Grian, and a small tear dropped onto his cheek.
Grian softly brushed away Scar's tear.
"I understand you're trying to help everyone, but that doesn't excuse him or anyone causing you physical or emotional harm." Grian got Scar to look at him and smiled softly.
Scar glanced at Grian and smiled back. “You have a point. Thanks, Grian.”
Grian finally understands Scar to forgive people easily, especially Cub, when it comes to arguments.
Grian hates it.
He despises Cub.
Grian feels the need to protect Scar from everyone and make sure they’ll pay.
One way or another, even if it involves taking a life for Scar.
Chapter 5: You're My Priority

Warning: Small Sexual Content/Rape
Chapter Text
A few minutes of conversation turned into several hours spent with Scar that night from spending time together and getting to know each other. Since Scar isn't much of a drinker, Grian gets Scar to take several tequila shots during their conversation, just to make him completely black out to his advantage.
Grian stared at Scar being completely drunk and stood up to approach the bar table to talk to Impulse. “Hey impulse, would you mind being a buddy and watching over my motorcycle? I need to bring Gem's brother back to the apartment in a cab, I can't leave him alone while he's drunk.”
Impulse wipes down the glass cups and glances at Grian. “Uh sure buddy, are you coming back for it or-”
“I’m coming back but if i don’t have enough time then please keep an eye on my motorcycle in the morning.” Grian replied.
“Alright, Grian. I'll catch you at the party for Jimmy and Tango." Impulse goes back to bartending.
“Catch you later” Grian returns to Scar and helps Scar in standing by placing Scar's arm over Grian's shoulder for steady support.
“Th-Thank you, Grian” Scar stumbles outside with Grian.
“I’m going to call a cab to take us to the apartment.” Grian calls a cab.
Grian and Scar arrived at the apartment, Grian unlocked the door and helped Scar walk inside.
Scar stumbles straight to the couch.
Grian shuts the door after them. “Gem? Are you home?” Grian scans the area to check for Gem, but there’s no one in sight.
“Where’s my sister…where’s cub?” Scar tries to get up but Grian stops him.
“Scar, let me help you get in bed” Grian lifted Scar effortlessly in his arms like a prince carries a princess.
“Luckily I did push ups and weightlifting for one of these types of situations” Grian thought.
Grian took Scar directly to the bedroom and softly placed Scar on the bed carefully. “You’re really drunk.” Grian observes Scar laying down defenseless on the bed.
He doesn’t want to take advantage of Scar but having nasty dirty thoughts of possibly touching Scar’s body excite Grian and make his heart race.
Grian sees that Scar has fallen asleep right away due to intoxication and quickly checks Scar's pocket for his phone. Grian snatches Scar's phone, then uses Scar's finger to unlock it with a fingerprint scan and removes the password for easier access.
Grian places Scar's phone beside the nightstand before removing Scar's clothes leaving his boxers on.
Scar drunk regardless, he wouldn’t realize it’s Grian.
Grian pressed his lips against Scar's mouth roughly, his lips were warm and soft. Scar lips parted slightly, allowing Grian tongue to slip inside. Just before Scar could push Grian away, Grian grabbed Scar's hands and placed them above the bed's headboard to prevent Scar from escaping his hold.
Grian pauses to take a breath and then begins to nip at Scar's neck.
Scar makes a choked sound that eventually evolves into moaning. “C-Cub?”
The bedroom is completely dark, making it difficult to see who is in the room.
Grian nibbles Scar's neck to create a territorial bruise while reaching into Scar's boxers to grab his cock. Mine...mine...mine...echoing in Grian's mind.
“ah~…Cub” Scar moaned from the motion.
Grian unfastens his pants to remove them and then pulls off Scar’s boxers quickly. “I can’t take it any longer…” Grian grabbed his own dick and began rubbing against Scar's anal hole. He is not interested in using lube or condom protection, he desires to possess Scar's body as his and his alone. “You belong to me, Scar… Mine and only mine to toy with” Grian said possessively.
“Yours?...” Scar breath hitches a bit.
Grian thrust his penis into Scar right away without any warning. It was satisfying to fill and be inside Scar.
Scar moans once more and attempts to escape Grian hold, but Grian won’t permit it.
Grian used one of his hands to spread Scar's legs apart, started at a consistent pace and later increased speed with each thrust, making Scar arch his back. Grian feels pleasure hearing Scar moan but dislikes it when Scar calls out Cub's name, he desires Scar to forget Cub and focus on him only.
He continued to bite Scar's neck, sucking strongly to leave another hickey that would remain for a few days.
after spending an hour fucking Scar constantly.
Scar reaches his peak and cums from his penis.
Grian keeps using Scar's hole at a quicker pace until he also reaches his peak. He had to finish before Gem or anyone entered the apartment and discovered Grian having sex with Scar in the bedroom while intoxicated.
A part of him wants Cub to witness Grian having an amazing time with his boyfriend, being satisfied by someone who isn't him.
Scar moans continuously. “D-Don’t finish inside m…me”
Grian disregarded Scar's plea and released inside Scar anal hole, filling it up from Grian.
Scar back arches again during Grian climax. "C-Cub!~"
Grian thrusts his hips further to maintain his position without making a mess on the bed covers. “Oh Scar…you’re better than I ever expected, I wish I could stay longer but I have to get rid of someone in our way” Grian pulls out his dick from the hole, making Scar moan slightly due to the discomfort and pain.
Grian cleans up a bit and puts on his pants before grabbing Scar's phone.
Scar begins to doze off asleep from alcohol.
Grian gives a brief kiss on Scar's lips then covers Scar with a blanket before exiting the bedroom.
Grian enters the kitchen, takes out a toolbox to grab a hammer and places it in his pocket, then exits the apartment.
Grian walks away from the apartment, scrolling through Scar’s phone and reading the latest messages from Cub.
Message to Cub
Cub Text 8:38PM: Scar, I wanted to say sorry and I realize I shouldn't get upset with you for being yourself around others. I just wanted to express my love for you. you mean the world to me, baby <3 message me back in the morning when you’re up.
Grian rolled his eyes down and began to type on Scar's phone.
Message to Cub
Scar Text 11:56PM: We can talk today, meet me at the location from the alleyway.
Scar send location area
Cub Text: What are you doing by yourself?
Scar Text: I’m heading directly back to the apartment as a shortcut, I told Grian that I'm fine walking by myself.
Cub Text: I’ll be there but Grian shouldn’t leave you alone in the dark baby.
Scar Text: Great! I’ll wait for you and don’t stress over it :D
Cub Text: Okay baby, I'll arrive quicker than you imagine <3
Grian puts Scar’s phone away and heads to the alleyway on the same street, then takes out a hammer. He was aware of the ideal spot to attack Cub and take him directly to Grian's house, which is nearby and would go unnoticed.
As Grian waits for Cub, he hides himself behind the dumpster and notices Cub walking through the alley.
“Scar? Where are you?” Cub walks by.
Grian prepares to hit Cub from behind, but just as Cub reaches for his phone to text Scar once more.
Cub hears a ringing noise from behind and looks back.
Grian strikes Cub forcefully on the head with a hammer to knock him unconscious.
“I'm taking you straight to my basement” Grian smiles as he grabs Cub by the cloak and pulls him along the ground. “I’ll make sure that no one can hear your screams…”
Grian pulls Cub's body directly to his nearby house, leaving no trace of evidence behind.
Chapter 6: Regret?...
Notes:
Warning: Rape Mention and Minor Physical Violence
Chapter Text
Grian pulls Cub into the basement on the ground floor and slams him against the wall.
Grian searches for zip ties and then ties Cub's hands together on the metal pole with them. “So helpless”
Cub regains consciousness and gazes up at Grian. “You…why are you doing t-this.” Cub said weakly.
Grian brought some ropes from the storage boxes and tied Cub's legs to prevent him from escaping. “Oh you know why I'm doing this.”
“No I don’t! you’re insane” Cub spat on Grian’s face while fighting to escape.
Grian wipes away the saliva then pulls Cub's hair to lift him by his face. “I’m absolutely insane for Scar.”
“Scar?...Is this about Scar? I knew i have a feeling about you, He isn’t interested being with you because he’s in love with m-”
Grian grabbed Cub by the throat. "Scar has no idea what love means! Scar is in love with the wrong person and I'm protecting him!”
Cub struggling to breathe while being held by Grian. “P-Protecting against what…someone like you?”
Grian keeps strangling Cub until he loses consciousness. “No. a person like you”
Grian pulls out duct tape and seals Cub's mouth shut with it.
He shouldn’t kill Cub, not just yet. Grian needs Cub to agree on separating and permanently leaving Scar behind, if Cub refuses then he has no choice but to kill him and take Cub out of the picture.
Grian somewhat regretted using Scar for his own pleasure, yet he couldn’t resist touching and feeling Scar. He also questions putting Cub in this position, but Grian wants to prevent Cub from hurting Scar any further. What he is doing is the best decision for not just himself but also for being near Scar.
Grian grabs Cub’s phone and uses Cub's fingerprint to unlock it, then removes the password for easier access, similar to Scar’s phone.
“Let’s see what else you have” Grian gets up from the stairs then shuts the basement door and locks it.
Grian looks at his phone to find missed calls and text messages from Pearl.
Message from Pearl
Pearl Text 5:56PM: Grian, you were supposed to arrive at my place by 4PM. Gem was asking where you were because she's concerned that you haven't responded to the calls and messages to either of us
Grian needs to make sure no one would suspect anything regarding the incident.
Message to Pearl
Grian Text 2:05AM: Sorry Pearl, I was driving around town and ran into Scar, took him out for drinks to chat, but now I'm home and Scar has gone his own separate way.
Grian sets his phone aside and lays down on the couch, staring at the ceiling.
“I'm sorry, Scar…” Grian covered his eyes with his arm and recalled Cub's words, “Protecting from what…a person like you?”
Grian feels guilty for doing something foolish to Scar. He wanted to erased that moment from his memory, yet a part of him felt…pleased. Grian also felt excited at the thought of seeing a hickey on Scar's neck, showing to everyone that he belonged to him.
But why does it hurt to become such an awful person to do this to Scar as tears begin to well up in Grian's eyes “I’m so sorry Scar…”
He needs to talk to Mumbo about this, Mumbo would understand him…would he?
Grian sobs himself to sleep on the couch due to exhaustion.
Grian’s phone rang several times, causing him to wake up. He looked at the phone call and it was Gem.
Grian was filled with guilt and picked up the phone. “Hello?...”
“Grian, have you spent the night with my brother?” Gem response
“Yes, why do you ask?” Grian responded quietly.
"Scar was intoxicated and misplaced his phone; I was curious if you happened to see it and if Cub was with Scar at all before you left?"
“I haven’t seen Scar phone, also why did you ask if Cub was with Scar. I left him by himself as he headed directly back to the apartment.” Grian responded rapidly.
Gem laughs. “No specific reason, but I will mention that Scar and Cub were in bed together sleeping when I'm not there. It explains the hickey on his neck, but still, why didn’t you answer calls from Pearl and me? We were concerned about you."
“I was having a conversation with Scar, and we noticed it was getting late, so we parted ways. Is Scar getting a new phone if he can't find it?" Grian asked.
“Sadly yes, the goofball can’t just drink in public and lose his phone. He doesn’t even remember or recall anything that happened. Once Scar gets a new phone and gets everything set up. He might remember what happened last night.” Gem let out a sigh. “Also Tomorrow your morning shift begins, and you'll be in charge since I'm going with Pearl to the art museum we've been planning to visit.” Gem stated.
“You and Pearl being alone together? That’s such a big deal Gem” Grian chuckles.
“Shut up Grian, I have feelings for your sister, but... she doesn't like girls and it’s going to stay like that." “I'm going to call you later.”
“You never know Gem, I know you have a shot to be with my sister. I'll act as your wingman to support you, and I'll give you a call later too.” Grian ends the call.
Grian gets up, heads to the basement door then unlocks it.
Grian walks down stairs to see how Cub is doing.
“Hmm…” Grian feels for a pulse on Cub's neck.
Grian exhaled softly in relief. "Still alive..."
Grian pulls out his phone once more and dials Mumbo.
Mumbo responds. “Good morning, Grian!”
“Mumbo…could you come to my house. We need to talk, it’s an emergency. I did something stupid…” Grian responded nervously.
“What did you do?...”
Chapter 7: Love Sickness
Chapter Text
Mumbo arrives at Grian home and knocks on the door.
Grian opens the door and drags Mumbo inside quickly then closes it. “I’m glad you're here…”
“Grian what’s this about?” Mumbo looks at Grian confused.
“It’s hard to explain but I trust you to not tell it to anyone” Grian said, looking anxious.
“Grian, if it’s about having a little crush on Gem’s brother, I’ve already heard that from Gem, and I agree with her; you should let it go and find someone else just as Gem is moving on from Pea-”
"It’s not that!! but it’s not exactly that…kind of, just come with me to the basement.” Grian unlocks the door and takes Mumbo down to the basement room.
Mumbo followed Grian and saw Cub knocked unconscious laying down on the ground, tied up. “Grian…” Mumbo glanced at Grian before sprinting out of the basement.
“Mumbo, you need to listen and understand! Let me explain about this” Grian grab Mumbo wrist.
"What needs explaining, Grian! you have a man who’s been kidnapped in your basement?!” Mumbo shouted at Grian.
“Please…I d-don’t know what to do and I'm scared Mumbo” Grian replied.
Mumbo gazed at Grian and exhaled. “Alright…explain the situation and I'll come up with a solution for you Grian…”
Grian agreed.
Following several hours of Grian explaining and slightly lying the situation from the previous night to Mumbo
"This is insane, Grian!" "You’re aware that one of our friends is a criminal investigator." Mumbo said to Grian.
“Who?” Grian questioned.
“Scott. The ex boyfriend of your brother and is friends with him along with everyone in our friends group. Grian…Scott will know about this soon and might…send you to jail for who knows how long, perhaps if Cub leaves from here alive and keeps quiet, then there’s a possibility you won’t face any consequences.” Mumbo placed his hand on Grian's shoulder.
“Mumbo, I can’t be in trouble while I’m helping Scar against his awful boyfriend. He deserves it…He hurt Sc-” before Grian could complete his sentence, he recalled what Cub had told him once more.
It kept echoing in his mind endlessly, making Grian’s stomach nauseous from what he did to Scar…Grian hated himself, he wished he could cry again. Perhaps killing Cub would help make it stop this constant feeling caused by the echo in his mind.
“He harmed Scar, and I can't let it happen again.” Grian turns his gaze away and then returns his attention to Mumbo.
"Mate, you really come across as someone who's completely lost it. You hardly met the man!" Mumbo responded.
There’s the same sentence from another person again. Grian gets a bit irritated, Gem and Cub say it but now Mumbo too?
“I already met and got to know Scar at the local bar and the bookstore! So don’t even think about saying that I hardly met him when I actually have! I…I fell for him immediately, and he’s already involved with someone who doesn’t value Scar! I AM CRAZY ABOUT HIM! Mumbo, you must understand that I feel a strange instant bond. Scar is like my soulmate!” Grian clenches his hand into a furious fist.
Mumbo did not speak.
Grian calms down a bit. “I apologize…you've been my closest friend since childhood and I was…hoping you would be with me until the end.”
Mumbo sighed. "I understand, Grian. You're lovesick, you're obsessed, but I'm still going to help you. Killing someone isn't the answer, and earning Scar's heart isn't the best way to do that."
"I'm not obsessed! but...you're right, killing someone isn't the best. I just need to keep Cub for a couple of days until he agrees to disappear forever and leave Scar completely." Grian hugs Mumbo tightly. "Thanks for helping me clear my head a bit before I make another stupid decision..."
Mumbo embraced Grian in a firm hug. "no problem. I have to head to work, but please promise me you'll eventually let that man go and not harm him for any reason."
Grian's phone notifies him of a new message, and he pulls it out of his pocket to see who it is.
"It’s Pearl." “I promise you I won’t act foolishly, Mumbo.” Grian exhales.
“Make sure to reply to her text, Mate,” Mumbo walks out the door. “Reach out to me again if you need my help.”
"Will do." Grian shut the door after Mumbo.
Grian looks at Pearl's message.
New Message From Pearl
Pearl Text 6:20AM: Grian, because you didn’t visit my place yesterday for tea. You owe me an explanation on why.
Grian Text 6:20AM: I’ll swing by your place, but first I need to retrieve my motorcycle from Impulse and Skizz, the nearby bar.
Pearl Text 6:21AM: This is the reason why I want you at my home and explain.
Grian placed his phone into his pocket and then checked to make sure the basement door was securely locked then places Scar's and Cub's phones in a shoebox and hides it beneath the couch.
Grian walks out of the house and locks it.
Grian pulled up to Pearl's house on his motorcycle and saw a Gem mini green Cooper parked in the driveway. "That's strange..."
Grian knocks on Pearl's door. “Pearl!”
Pearl unlocked the door and smiled. “Grian, we’re so glad you’ve arrived to join us for tea,” Pearl greeted him as he entered.
“with us?” Grian enters and sees Scar in the living room.
“I invited Scar to come along since I wanted to meet Gem’s brother too, we’ve been chatting for hours.” Pearl grinned.
“Hours?...” Grian remained quiet.
“Yeah, Scar and I share a lot of similarities. It feels as if we’re identical” Pearl goes to the kitchen, fills a cup with tea, and gives it to Grian.
“Scar is a very attractive person but sadly he’s in a relationship with someone” Pearl sighed.
“He is and you should respect that. Maybe it’s best to find someone else since you’re single.” Grian smiled and drank the tea.
"Most likely, but I'm not shocked that Scar is taken, he's a charmer and a keeper just like Gem." Pearl chuckles slightly.
“They are siblings after all.” Grian responded.
“Hey Grian, I had no idea you'd be here,” Scar says as he walks in.
Grian saw a large hickey on Scar's neck. He can tell Scar is trying to cover up with makeup. Grian also noticed Scar already has a new phone. “Got yourself a new phone already?” Grian feels nervous.
"Yeah, I misplaced my phone when I was with you. I suppose Cub stayed with me at night in the apartment.” Scar show to Grian the final night message from Cub.
Grian nodded.
“So Gem was telling the truth, you both went to a local bar in town.” Pearl gives Grian a disapproving look. “I’m sorry Scar, about my stupid brother taking you to the bar and getting you drunk.”
“It’s fine Pearl, I just wasn’t expecting to get so drunk that I hardly remember what happened…” Scar said while continuing to message Cub. "I still think it's strange that I texted Cub to come over and…" “But now he doesn’t reply to my messages at all, which I find odd because Cub always replies to my texts, whether he’s busy or not.”
"Perhaps he's really busy, Scar." Pearl gazes at Scar.
“Or he’s likely staying away from you since the last disagreement.” Grian takes a sip of tea.
“But how? Cub and I were in my room last night and then he left…” Scar appears confused.
"Scar, you're so intoxicated that you can't even remember." Grian is feeling very unwell again. He feels terrible to manipulate the situation and especially manipulate Scar.
It's as if the words he speaks no longer belong to him.
"Maybe you’re right, I don’t remember much." Scar placed his phone in his back pocket.
“I’m heading to the restroom.” Grian places the glass of tea on the table and hurriedly heads directly to the bathroom from upstairs.
Grian shut the door and began to vomit into the toilet.
Grian gazes at his reflection in the bathroom mirror. “Why...why did I do that to him.” tears streamed down his face. “I’m protecting you.”
“I’m protecting you out of love, Scar. Please try to understand…”
Chapter 8: Mischief Deal
Notes:
Warning: Weapon use
Chapter Text
Grian splashed water onto his face from the sink and then inhaled deeply. “Pull yourself together.” “It was an error…an error that can be resolved with Scar.”
Grian opened the bathroom door and was taken aback to find Scar waiting in the hallway.
“Grian…is everything alright?” Scar replied with concern. “I wanted to see how you are doing.”
Grian glanced at Scar and observed the concerned expression in his eyes. It hurts to see Scar appear anxious, and I wish for him to feel joy similar to the moment we first met at the bookstore. “I’m okay, Scar, I appreciate your concern,” Grian reassured Scar with a smile.
“No problem. Let me know if you need someone to talk to.” Scar smiled back.
“I-I actually do need you, Scar. I need advice but this is between us.” Grian hands shaking nervously.
Scar grabs Grian's hands to help him calm down from the nerves. “I’ll take it to my grave.”
Grian glances at Scar’s hands and then meets his gaze again. “Alright…” “What would you do if a friend of yours had feelings for someone else but…”
Scar stared at Grian.
“But your friend took advantage of the person through sex and got guilty. Regrets it.” Grian holds Scar's hands tight.
Scar appeared at a loss for words and struggled on how to reply to Grian.
"Um, okay. What your friend did was a really bad way to handle it, especially with feelings involved for that person. If the person shares feelings for your friend, it might be best to clarify the situation soon and address the guilt. I’m confident they would reach an agreement and if they don't, that’s okay.” “You don’t need to stress over it, Grian.” Scar embraces Grian in a heartfelt hug.
Grian remained quiet and embraced Scar with a warm hug. “Appreciate the advice.”
“I’m here for you, that’s what friends are for? Pearl asked me to let you know that her apple pie is done.
Grian sniffed Scar's hair and cologne briefly before they separated from the embrace. “Alright. Let’s head down together.”
Scar agreed.
Grian and Scar return to the dining table side by side.
“Finally, you guys arrived just in time before my apple pie turned cold.” Pearl dishes out slices of apple pie to Scar and Grian before taking her seat.
“I'll return shortly. I just need to phone call Cub.” Scar stepped out onto the patio.
"That's okay, Scar." Pearl said.
Grian and Pearl observe Scar stepping outside to make a phone call.
“I’m surprised his boyfriend hasn’t sent him a voicemail or replied to his text. If I were in a relationship with Scar, I would respond instantly at lightning speed.” Pearl giggles
"You know that Scar is only attracted to guys, no interest in females" Grian takes a bite of apple pie.
"That's not true, Scar said he's bisexual and attracted to both genders." Pearl responded.
“What are you trying to say?” Grian becomes slightly annoyed.
"All I'm saying is that Scar is attractive, and anyone with him should feel fortunate because I know I'll treat him better than his current boyfriend, who has neglected him all day." Pearl cuts a slice of apple pie for Scar.
Grian takes another bite of apple pie without replying to Pearl.
Scar enters inside again.
“Got any updates, Scar?” Pearl hands Scar a plate of slices of apple pie.
“He's not responding...I may need to head to Cub's place to check if he's around...” Scar picks up the plate. "I'll have this to take away, Pearl."
“Hold on, are you leaving already?” Grian feels a little distressed, attempting to hide it.
Pearl takes the plate from Scar. "I'll give you the entire apple pie for you and Gem."
“Thanks Pearl, and yes, I need to leave…I'm really concerned about him” Scar said.
Grian dislikes Scar focusing too much on Cub. He wants Scar to concentrate only on him. Cub is missing, and Scar is concerned for him despite Cub not appreciating Scar at all.
Pearl gave Scar a takeout box. "I hope everything is fine with your boyfriend."
"Thanks once more, Pearl, and I'll see you later, Grian," Scar leaves.
"I’ll also head out, Gem asked me to come urgently to the bookstore for help" Grian says as he stands up, taking another slice of apple pie before heading to the entrance.
“Grian, leaving? You hardly showed up." Pearl looked at Grian confused.
"It's urgent!" Grian leaves quickly.
Grian got home, unlocked the basement door, and made his way directly to the basement. “Cub? Are you awake?"
Cub attempts to escape. "Let me go!"
Grian sets a piece of apple pie next to Cub. "You have to eat, and we have to talk…"
"I don’t want your stupid pie and discuss what!" Cub kicked the piece of apple pie with both feet. Let me go…I need to be with Scar! You’re going to put him in danger.”
”No! I’m not!” Grian shouted at Cub.
“Yes, you are! You're insane! You’re Mons-"
Grian pushed an apple pie into Cub's mouth roughly. "Be quiet and cooperate as a good hostage for me."
Cub coughs it out and struggles to breathe. “Why are you keeping me alive…”
“Because I'm not a monster! I’m going to let you walk out of here alive but only if you do me a big favor.” Grian looked at Cub.
“What f-favor…” Cub said
“Leave and leave Scar forever. Disappear and never come back, If you want to leave and stay alive. That’s all I ask for you and I have no intention to harm you or kill you.” Grian opens a water bottle and lets water flow into Cub's mouth. "I've also brought you some water because you could be feeling thirsty..."
Cub thirstily gulps down water.
"I’ll accept your offer, and you can keep Scar for yourself. I don't actually care about him at all." Cub told a small lie.
Grian forcefully pushes Cub's head against the wall. “Why are you lying to me, Cub? Lying and pretending to insult Scar won't help you in this scenario.”
"I'll give you a few days to decide and come to an agreement with me since I don't want to end your life." Grian released Cub. "During this time, get comfortable"
Grian leaves the basement and gets Cub’s phone in a hidden shoebox underneath the couch.
Grian looks through Cub’s phone messages from Scar and began to type
Message To Scar
Cub Text 8:25AM: Scar, I want to be left alone. Don’t call or message me because I don't want to see you again. What I'm trying to say is that I want to break up with you and leave somewhere far away.
Scar Text 8:26AM: Cub? What do you mean you want to end our relationship? I can’t understand what you mean. We’ve been together for a year, and you’re acting differently since I began moving here with my sister. Is this about Grian?
Cub Text 8:26AM: Perhaps, but I'm tired of you being nice to everyone. You’re just flirting around and you’re not concerned about us. Our relationship. It's better for us to part ways, Scar. It's over.
Scar Text 8:27AM: I care for you deeply. I don’t want to end our relationship. At the very least, have the courage to call me and end things or meet me face to face!
Grian considers and heads to the closet to find a Gun. “Maybe this would frighten Cub into leaving a voicemail”
Grian returns to the basement.
“What are you planning to do with the gun?!” Cub becomes anxious. “You said you’re not going to kill me!”
“Break up with Scar on a voicemail, if you want to survive."
"You wouldn’t."
“I will.” Grian aims Gun at Cub's head, places the phone close to Cub, and activates voicemail.
"Scar, We need to separate. It's not working for us and it's best if we part ways… I lov-” Cub was about to say more when Grian disabled the voicemail.
"Thanks a lot." Grian smiled and left a voicemail for Scar on Cub's phone.
“You made me sick, you monster. If I'm going to leave and stay away for good. You also need to stay away from him.”
Grian stayed silent for a bit. “I…I will.”
Chapter 9: Weird...
Chapter Text
Grian awakens in the desert and notices Scar walking ahead of him. “Scar?...” Grian exclaimed while holding Scar's arm to prevent him from leaving.
Scar remained quiet and faced Grian again, showing a blank expression in his gaze. “Grian, why did you do that?”
“Do what, Scar?...” Grian responded in disbelief.
“Hurt our friends from the explosive.” Scar spoke in a quiet voice.
Grian observes the explosives scattered throughout the desert. “I…I-I was protecting you and staying alive with me. We need to stay alive together! I just…don’t wanna lose you and I'm willing to risk our friends, just for you.”
Scar turns his gaze from Grian and keeps walking away. "Stay away from me" he says, pulling away from Grian's hold.
“Scar! I love you! It’s the only way to make you stay with me!” Grian shouted at Scar and started to cry, collapsing onto his knees on the floor. “Scar!”
An alarm repeatedly buzzed in Grian's ears, waking him up in the morning from the awful nightmare.
Grian takes a breath and scans his surroundings, recognizing his bedroom instead of the desert, before silencing his phone alarm. “Oh…it was just a dream.”
Grian raises himself while massaging his eyes and breathes in deeply. "I suppose it's time to return to work."
Grian showed up slightly late at the bookstore and found Cleo with Gem at the front desk.
“Sorry for my slight delay.” Grian removes his leather jacket and sets it aside.
“You're consistently late, Grian.” Cleo replied, "As your brother Jimmy says.”
Gem lets out a deep sigh that caught the attention of Grian and Cleo.
"Is everything alright, Gem?" Grian gazes at Gem with concern.
"I’m going to murder Cub. He just ended things with my brother through a dumb voicemail, and I dislike it when someone causes him pain because it isn’t right. At the very least, have the courage to confront him face to face.” Gem becomes annoyed. “Luckily, Pearl is with Scar, and I asked her to keep him company and lift his spirits while I manage my business in the meantime.”
"I'm certain your brother will eventually move forward and meet someone who genuinely cares for him, Gem. Don't focus on Scar, instead, think about when you'll meet a girl." Cleo patted Gem's back for encouragement.
“I totally agree with Cleo.” Grian gazes at them..
"I simply cannot. My heart is with Pearl, and my feelings have been the same for all these years... but I can't jeopardize our friendship, and she doesn’t view me that way," Gem begins to sort through the books.
Grian helps out Gem in organizing.
“No gem, I mean find someone other than Pearl, it’s not healthy and you need to find someone who is willing to be with you.” Before Cleo finishes, Gem interrupts.
“I love her.” Gem looks at Grian and Cleo.
“If you love her then you need to let her go. You’ve remained single for a long time since you’re with Pearl, and I mention this because I care about—” Cleo is cut off by Grian.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT! Gem, ignore Cleo's suggestion and stand up for Pearl. You must confront your emotions and admit to Pearl before it's too late." Grian stops organizing.
“Wow Grian, what do you mean by before it's too late?” Gem lets out a small laugh.
“Never back down from expressing your emotions, especially to someone you care for.” Grian responded..
“Grian, we get it. This is about you and Gem brother” Cleo chuckles. “He's available, but allow the man some time to recover from his breakup.”
“I ...That’s not what I intended to say!” Grian's cheeks flushed bright red with humiliation.
Gem chuckles. “I understand, Grian, but maybe you need to take your own advice. Although there’s potential between you and Scar, it’s not a bad thought. You've been my closest friend for a long time, and I have faith in you. I'm quite protective of my older brother."
“You think we have potential?...” Grian look at Gem
“Think? No, I know you guys might have potential together” Gem replied.
“Okay, enough discussion and let’s get back to work.” Cleo turned and left.
“I'm off Gem!” Grian leaves through the entrance door.
Grian approaches the Cat Cafe across from the bookstore and observes through the window that Pearl and Scar are seated together, enjoying coffee at the table. "What in the world?…"
Grian finds it strange that Pearl is becoming very close to Scar. He couldn't tell if her sister is genuinely kind to others or merely interested in Scar. Grian dislikes the idea that Pearl and Scar might become a couple due to shared interests. Maybe reflecting on it made Grian understand that Scar's personality and kindness are indeed similar to Pearl.
One of the few reasons Grian must keep them as distant as possible is to ensure they don’t end up together at all.
While Grian's mind drifts off unknowingly, Joel bumps Grian's shoulder from the back.
Grian feels frightened and turns around to find it’s Joel. “JOEL!”
“Dude, why are you looking out the window at the customer's like a creepy stalker?” Joel replied.
“I was just about to enter and buy some tea for myself.” Grian states
Joel gazes out the window and sees Pearl with Scar. “Hey, is that Pearl with Gem’s brother? I assumed Pearl had already found a new boyfriend."
Grian elbowed Joel. "Not a new boyfriend since Pearl doesn’t like Scar, and also…Scar's boyfriend ended things with him, he's just going through a breakup over voicemail.
“That’s sad, maybe I'll get him a free croissant to lift his spirits." Joel walks in with Grian at the Cat Cafe.
“No, I will get him a croissant.” Grian pulls out his wallet and hands cash to Joel. “I would like tea too, if that’s alright with you.”
Lizzie waved to Grian. “Hi Grian, great to have you back”
“Hi and thanks, Lizzie.” Grian walks away and goes directly to the table of Pearl and Scar. “Is anyone sitting here?”
Pearl spun around and was surprised to see Grian. “Oh Grian, I had no idea you were here.”
"Hi G." Scar gave a faint smile.
A nickname from Scar? What a thrilling feeling caused Grian's heart to race faster from receiving a nickname, yet he felt concerned seeing Scar upset due to a pointless breakup with Cub. He wants Scar to have someone better than Cub, someone like Grian, unlike Pearl.
“I heard everything from Gem. How are you doing?...” Grian sits down next to Scar and holds Scar hand nervously.
Scar accepts Grian holding hand comfort. “I’m not doing pretty well, I love him and I need to accept Cub leaving because of me…It’s my fault.”
“No, it's not Scar. you're the kindest and most incredible person I've ever known. I met you at the local bar, and the separation isn’t your responsibility. Cub is just a jealous and toxic person who doesn’t value you.” Grian gazes into Scar's sad green forest eyes, and it shatters Grian's heart to witness his pain.
Scar remained quiet and did not reply to Grian.
Grian believed he might have overshared with Scar at the end of the sentence.
Pearl held Scar on the other hand for comfort. “I agree with Grian but I don't believe Cub is toxic, as everyone evolves in their own way, which changes the relationship dynamics. It’s not you or Cub who is to blame for the breakup.” Pearl smiled at Scar.
Scar glanced at Pearl and returned a small smile. "Thanks, Pearl and thank you, G man."
Grian feels rage and jealousy boils within him as he watches Pearl interact with Scar right before his eyes. He isn't sure why, as he believes Pearl won't pursue the same guy that Grian likes.
Surely she isn’t pursuing Scar now, right?
Grian's mind wandered again as he caught a brief glimpse of Pearl's eyes shifting pupils while looking at Scar.
Hold on…She has feelings for him too?
Chapter 10: Discussion
Chapter Text
Grian wasn’t going to allow Pearl or anyone else to interfere with his connection to Scar, particularly since Scar was available, but based on what Cleo mentioned earlier at the bookstore about allowing Scar space after the last silly breakup, Grian acknowledged it.
Joel approached their table, serving tea to Grian and offering a croissant to Scar. “I heard about the breakup, so Grian and I want to offer you a free croissant.”
“Thank you Joel, for the tea.” Grian had a tiny sip.
"Thank you…is Joel right?" Scar gazed at Joel.
“Correct, friends with these two goofballs and everyone attending the anniversary party for Jimmy and Tango, next week” Joel stated.
Scar nodded “Noted.”
“JOEL! I need help with the rest of the customers!” Lizzie shouted from the front pastry display.
“I’ll be there Lizzie! Anyway I’ll give you my phone number because we’re friends now and you can call me if you need help.” Joel handed out a piece of paper with a phone number and left urgently.
“Thank you Joel. What a sweetheart guy.” Scar gave a slight smile.
“Eh more like a jerk and pain in the a-” Grian is cut off by Pearl's light punch on his shoulder.
“He's a jerk because he is honest and speaks directly to you.” “Joel is a sweetheart, Scar,” Pearl replied.
Scar chuckles softly.
“I appreciate everything you guys do for me, but I’m still stuck on Cub situation..." Scar sighed.
"How about I take you to a theme park or a zoo park?" “It’s my treat to you.” Grian gazes at Scar.
Grian noticed a glimmer of excitement in Scar's green eyes. He knew Scar enjoys anything related to amusement parks or, even better, has love for Disney parks from their last chat at the local bar.
"R-really?" I don’t want to-”
“I want to.” Grian prevents Scar from speaking. “I love to… I don’t want to see you being unhappy about Cub.” Grian grasped Scar's hand firmly.
Scar glances at Grian and then at Pearl. "What about you, Pearl?" “Would you like to join us?”
"I would love to, I have work today but I could call in sick and spend time with both of you." Pearl grinned.
“No Pearl, I think you should go to work instead. I’ll hang out with Scar, so don’t worry.” Grian gives a glare stare at Pearl.
“Oh okay, I guess I should head to work, Scar do you want me to drop you off at home?” Pearl finished drinking coffee.
“It's fine, Pearl. I’ll take Scar to the amusement park and then drop him off at the apartment afterward.” Grian smiled
"Thanks Grian, but it's not necessary to do it today." Scar takes a bite of his croissant.
"I insist, and also, you begin your new job as landscaping architects tomorrow, so I want to spend time with you today." Grian sips the tea.
Scar becomes confused. “How were you aware of that?”
Grian pauses his tea drinking and remains quiet, considering how to dodge the question.
“Um, Gem shares all the details with me.” "After all, I’m her closest friend…plus you mentioned it again while you were drunk, Scar."
"Strange, Gem rarely shares information with me about Scar and his new position." Pearl asked.
“Perhaps I mentioned it to Grian while I was drunk…I honestly can’t recall much as I blacked out.” Scar thinks.
"She did, and aren't you supposed to go to work, Pearl?" Grian attempts to shift the topic.
“Hmm, yeah I have to go now.” "I'll see you all later, and Scar, stay positive." Pearl stands up and embraces Scar.
Scar stands up and embraces Pearl in return. “Thanks, Pearl… I’ll reach out to you once I return home.”
“Of course, I’m always here for you, no matter what happens.” “I’ll catch you later, Grian, and you better make sure Scar gets home safely because Gem would be furious with us if anything happened to him.” Pearl laughs and gives Grian a pat on the shoulder before leaving.
“I’m always careful when it comes to you, Scar.” Grian smiled at Scar.
Grian and Scar exited the Cat Cafe and went directly to the parking lot where Grian's motorcycle was parked.
“Sure…Grian, may I ask you something before we go?” Scar expressed
“Question like what?”
“Why did you abandon me when I was…intoxicated?” Scar spoke softly.
The question pierces Grian straight to his core. He wishes to reveal the entire truth to Scar, but what if Scar despises him? What if Scar were to stay away from him because of what he did to him at night? Grian's mind spiraled uncontrollably, overwhelmed and nauseated by guilt.
In reality, Grian was always by Scar’s side, but the lying made it appear as if he abandoned Scar and didn't care about him, particularly when Scar was under the intoxicated. Scar had every reason to feel this way and to rely on someone who merely believed Grian abandoned him.
“I never abandoned you when you were drunk and-”
"Yet you did!" “Showing on the…marks on my neck, I understand I was taken advantage of while intoxicated, despite Cub being my boyfriend! I believed he cared for me that night, but then…he…he walked away and ended things unexpectedly without any reason. If you didn’t leave me alone then maybe this wouldn’t happen, I would prefer not to be with Cub in the apartment and be glad he ends our relationship the following day.” Scar attempting to hold back tears.
Grian parts his lips and quickly closes them, attempting to formulate words to say. “I’m sorry…” “I will never leave you alone, Scar. It was a mistake. I regret it for the rest of my life because I genuinely care for you. It’s not just because you’re Gem’s brother, but because I consider you my friend.”
Scar gazes down at Grian and exhales. “I'm sorry for blaming you, perhaps some of it was mainly my fault for being-”
“It’s not your fault!" "Scar, you shouldn’t always hold yourself responsible in every circumstance, just as you do with your dad. You are worthy of more, and you shouldn't feel ashamed for wanting to be deserving of more." Grian takes Scar's hand again. “I will make sure that you are treated like the princess you truly deserved…”
“Princess?” Scar chuckles slightly.
Grian becomes flustered. “Or Prince! I'm unsure about your preference..."
"You’re adorable, if you view me as a damsel in distress princess, then I suppose I require a hero to rescue me. It doesn't bother me at all, Grian." Scar laughs more frequently.
Scar might see it as a joke, but Grian does view Scar as a lovely princess in need of saving from awful people. He doesn't mind as long as his princess is secure in his embrace and no one can take him away from Grian.
Grian feels shy and gives Scar a helmet. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to express it that way."
Scar keeps laughing hysterically. “It’s fine Grian, and you know what?”
“What?...” Grian looks at Scar.
“You're right, maybe I do deserve to have princess treatment for once” Scar puts on the helmet.
“Um…could I have the princess's hand and help with getting on the motorcycle?” Grian hops onto the motorcycle and reaches out his hand to Scar.
Scar grabs Grian's hand and climbs onto the motorcycle. “Hold on, where is your helmet?”
"I currently don't have a spare helmet, and I’m used to driving without one." “Are you ready?” Grian powers up the engine.
Scar's arms wrapped around Grian's waist. “Sure, ready whenever you are.”
“Let’s go directly to the Amusement Park together.”
"Okay" Scar smiled warmly.
Chapter 11: Too Soon, Too Late, and Many Mistakes
Chapter Text
Enjoying rides and playing games with Scar at the theme park has been amazing. Grian enjoys seeing this side of Scar, appreciates seeing him happy and laughing, without anyone intervening like Pearl and Cub. Grian hopes they can remain in this moment eternally, it’s a happy fairytale, and Grian will make sure no one interrupts it.
Grian was unaware of how much time had gone by and it became nighttime. He wished to ride the Ferris Wheel with Scar before they leave.
“Didn’t know it was night, time sure did pass by quickly. We should head back and get home” Scar smiled.
“Let’s visit the Ferris Wheel together first, and then we can head out!” Grian grabs Scar's arm excitedly.
“Sure!” Scar follows behind Grian to the Ferris Wheel.
Grian hops on and pulls Scar to sit beside him, anticipating the operator to shut the gate and start the Ferris Wheel. “Please don’t say that you’re afraid of heights?” Grian laughs.
The person in charge shuts the gate and begins the rotation of the Ferris Wheel.
"Height doesn’t scare me, but the thought of plummeting to my death does. That’s a difference, Grian." Scar gazes at the starry sky. "Hey Grian, Isn’t it beautiful to see the night sky and the stars twinkling, along with the glowing full moon."
Grian gazes at the sky before turning his attention to Scar. "Yeah...it’s beautiful where I’m gazing."
Scar gazes back at Grian. “Thanks for bringing me here and lifting my spirits after the tough time with Cub.” “Sometimes I think I might not meet someone who truly loves and cares for me…I believed Cub was the one who would ask me to marry him.” "I’m not sure, perhaps it’s foolish to believe that way, especially considering he’s my soulmate." Scar gets a bit emotional and laughs a little.
"Scar, you will meet someone who cares for, loves, and cherishes you..." Grian gently wipes Scar's tears and looks into his green forest eyes once more.
Scar looks at Grian. “Seriously?…”
“I truly mean it.” Grian leaned in closely to Scar's face.
They both look into each other's eyes for a moment, inching closer as time passes. Grian softly kisses Scar on the lips, and unexpectedly, Scar responds with a tender kiss in return.
Grian begins to passionately kiss Scar more intensely, lightly biting Scar's lower lip.
Scar lets out a soft moan between kisses and pushes Grian back. "I can't. It's not right that I just ended things with Cub, it feels too soon... this was a mistake."
"Mistake?" "Cub ended the relationship with you and–”
“Grian, I need some time to myself and to avoid starting another relationship.” "Especially with you, as my friend, I don't want to treat you as a rebound... I'm still hurting and have feelings for Cub. Scar diverts his gaze.
“Then why did you kiss me back…” Grian gazes at Scar
"Because I’m not in the right state of mind, I’m barely single!" "What if Cub decides to change his mind and repair our relationship? I need to wait for him... I still have hope, Grian." Scar stated
“Wait for Cub?...I didn't want to mention this, but I saw Cub with another person at the restaurant when I was there with Joel and Jimmy.” "He looks happy and maybe he ended things with you to be with someone else." Grian lied a bit.
Scar glances back at Grian. “Did you really spot Cub with another person?”
“I did, but I didn't want to mention it because I'm protecting you. I genuinely care for you Scar and honestly… I'm beginning to develop feelings for you, not as a friend but something deeper." Grian remained silent as he awaited Scar's reply.
“I need space and alone. I feel conflicted because I continue to love him, even though he has someone secretly. “I don’t want another partner; I just need a real friend with me at this moment, and maybe you’re not the right person to be around while I’m feeling this way.” Scar turns his gaze away from Grian.
Grian's heart felt like it broke into a million pieces again, he despises Cub for constantly loving him. He lies about it, yet Scar continues to love him, even if Cub would betray Scar's trust. Grian doesn’t want Scar to abandon him for confessing his feelings and an inappropriate time. He doesn’t mind but his heart aches to see Scar cry for someone who doesn’t deserve it.
He should’ve listened to Cleo. Confessing feelings was a mistake while Scar still believed Cub relationship could be repaired and overcome the challenges of the breakup.
Grian wishes to hide and die in the corner, rewind and change this stupid mistake.
“You still haven’t responded to my question, Scar.” Grian feels unhappy not to see Scar's green forest eyes when Scar's back is turned away from him. "We can remain friends and pretend this never happens, but don’t deny our kiss. Our deep connection and tender moment from that kiss.”
"It was a mistake.” Scar still avoids Grian’s gaze and will not turn back, eager to exit the ride.
Once the Ferris Wheel stops, Scar and Grian exit. Scar turns and leaves Grian behind.
"SCAR!" “If you don’t want anything from me, then let's still remain friends!” “I have feelings for you!” Grian chasing after Scar.
Suddenly, Scar stops walking away and remains still for a moment before turning to confront Grian. "It would be better for us to part ways and not talk to each other for a while…"
“Scar… please don’t.” Tears begin to stream down Grian's face.
"We can maintain our friendship, but I need to be alone, separate from you." Scar let out a sigh.
Grian regret revealed his feelings so soon, yet he couldn’t resist the chance to kiss Scar on the Ferris wheel under the beautiful night sky.
“I'll take you home and–”
“Good.” Grian is interrupted by Scar.
Grian and Scar reached the apartment building.
Scar opens the apartment door, removes his helmet, and returns it to Grian. "Make sure to drive safely on your way home."
“No…you can have the helmet, I want you to have it because it reassures me that you're still my friend.” Grian gazes at Scar, unsure of how to reply.
“Goodnight, Grian.” Scar keeps the helmet, and just as he starts to leave, Grian catches Scar's arm and pulls him back, kissing Scar once more.
Scar placed his hands on Grian's shoulders, intending to push him away but instead leaned in to give Grian another kiss again while dropping Grian helmet on the floor.
Grian started to kiss Scar's neck, pulling him closer.
“N-No, we should stop…this isn’t right.” Scar winces slightly from the soft kiss on the tender hickey bruise.
“Do you want me to stop?” Grian looks at Scar.
“I.. I don’t know…” Scar gaze at Grian.
Grian passionately kisses Scar again, shutting the door behind them and pressing Scar against the wall while they kiss.
Scar removes Grian's black leather jacket and drops it to the floor.
Grian lifted Scar and began to grind against him, causing Scar to gasp and moan from the pressure of Grian's movements.
“G-” Scar groaned once more as Grian kept grinding a little.
"Do you enjoy that? I think you do..." Grian placing gentle kisses along Scar's jawline and neck
Grian and Scar hear footsteps as someone unlocks the door.
Scar quickly pushed Grian off aside and noticed Gem entering the apartment.
Gem saw them. “Oh! You both frightened me, I had no idea you were here."
“Hey Gem!” Grian glances at Gem.
“Grian is going to leave soon, regardless.” Scar approaches the door and swings it open.
“Sure, but Grian can stick around since it’s already midnight.” Gem grinned.
“I don’t want to disturb you all…” Grian grabbed his black leather jacket from the ground.
"I'm pretty certain you are disturbing us. It's best for you to go." Scar turn his gaze away from Grian.
“Grian could sleep in your room, Scar, or he can use the couch and leave early tomorrow.” Gem shuts the entrance door. “I’m going to bed, goodnight guys.” Gem enters the bedroom and shuts the door.
Scar waited for Gem to leave the living room. “Okay. Gem has left, and it's time for you to go Grian..." Scar sighed.
"Are you sure?" "I could stay in your room and bring you pleasure." Grian said, wrapping his arm around Scar's waist.
“No, I’m certain I want you to leave.” "I need some time by myself to heal from the breakup...and think about this." Scar swung the entrance door open once more.
"If that's what you want, then I must respect your choice…I'm sorry." Grian stepped outside.
"Stay safe while driving."
Grian quickly plants a brief kiss on Scar's lips and leaves. “Night.”
Scar watches Grian walk away. “Night…”
Grian returned home and spotted Mumbo sitting by the doorway, waiting. “Mumbo?...why are you here?”
“Waiting for you to get back home and making sure you release the man in the–”
"Quiet! Could you please be quiet!” Grian opens the door and steps aside, allowing Mumbo to enter first and shut the door behind them.
"I still have him locked in the basement, and I’ll set him free if he agrees to walk away from Scar permanently…I’m tired of Cub sabotaging my chances with Scar because he’s all Scar cares about!"
“What are you implying by sabotaging your opportunities with Scar?” Mumbo gazes at Grian.
“I admit my feelings to Scar, but it was early... too soon, and I regret not listening Cleo’s advice.” Grian looks beneath the sofa and takes hold of a gun.
“WOAH!” “Mate, what’s up with you having a gun?!” Mumbo spoke hesitantly.
"It's a safety against intruders, but I need a gun and use it as a threat to make sure he follows through on the agreement, intimidating him." Grian uses another key to open the door to the basement.
“Uh, alright” Mumbo follows behind Grian to the basement.
Cub wakes up and notices Grian along with Mumbo.
“Rise and shine, Cub. If you want to be free and live, you must agree to the terms.” Grian aims his gun at Cub's forehead.
“I'll do it, but you need to promise me that you won't harm Scar and leave him be.” Cub looked at Grian.
Grian glances at Cub briefly. "You’re returning with Scar, right…?"
“If you knew, why do I mention it? I love Scar... and a part of you is aware of that.” You were aware Scar loved me too and disliked witnessing that…” Cub smiled faintly.
“Shut up.” "You have no idea what you're saying."
“Grian, he’s toying with your mind.” Mumbo said.
Cub laughs softly. “Let me guess, you attempted to express your feelings and Scar rejected it anyway because he’s still in love with me–”
Grian sees red as anger rises within him. “SHUT UP!”
"You need to face the truth" "you're crazy and Scar would never date someone like you–"
Grian shot Cub in the head, resulting in Cub's instant death.
“GRIAN!!!” Mumbo dashed over to Cub. “What have you done!!”
Grian's hands tremble anxiously, and he lets the gun fall to the ground, understanding his actions. He begins to panic, struggling to breathe. "I have no idea! I had no intention of doing that!”
Mumbo attempts to control the bleeding while feeling for Cub's pulse on his neck. “Y-You murdered him!”
Grian noticed a pool of blood trailing across the floor, close to where the firearm had fallen. “I was protecting Scar... I’m doing it for Scar!”
“I didn’t mean to…” Grian looks at Cub's lifeless body, his sight begins to fade. Grian's heart rate elevated, causing him to lose consciousness.
Mumbo looks at Grian in distress. “Grian!”
It was a mistake.
Notes:

Chapter 12: Good Riddance
Chapter Text
Grian opens his eyes, staring at the ceiling above and feeling everything spin. Grian looks at his surroundings in confusion, seeing Mumbo sitting next to him on the couch. "Was I dreaming…?”
“No!” "You’re not dreaming, Grian. You…you took a man's life in your basement! I-I’m unsure how to handle all of this!" Mumbo freaked out.
“No ...this must be a dream!” Grian panting heavily. "I didn't mean to kill him! It was a mistake, Mumbo!”
“I don’t know what to believe anymore…it’s probably better to inform Scott about the situation and tell a slight lie. M-Maybe Scott can help you in getting out of this mess!” Mumbo gazes at Grian with unease.
“NO! Are you out of your mind! Why on earth would I surrender and spend my life in prison! Just because Scott has been our friend for a long time…doesn’t guarantee he’ll help me!" Grian concerned. “If that happens, then…Scar will leave me and I can't see him again.”
“Scar…IS THAT ALL YOU THINK ABOUT?!” Mumbo shouted at Grian.
Mumbo was waiting for Grian to respond but heard a soft chuckle.
Grian placed his hand over his mouth, making an effort to suppress his laughter.
“Grian?…”
“Cub was asking for it.” Grian's tone shifted slightly, causing Mumbo to feel uneasy.
Mumbo remained silent without replying.
Grian rises and looks down at Mumbo. "He deserved it for speaking about me, and I gave him several chances based on the offer I made."
“Grian…how can you say that? The man didn’t deserve to-”
“I felt…incredible to pull the trigger and blow off his head” “I-I have no regrets.” Grian chuckles slightly more.
Grian takes hold of Mumbo's shoulder. “The important question is, will my best friend betray me?..” Grian's tone became serious again.
Mumbo placed his hand on Grian's hand from the shoulder. "I could never betray my best friend...I just don't see why you make such an effort for Gem's brother."
"I love him." "He just doesn't know it yet, but he will eventually love me in return. He's the first person I ever laid my eyes on who caught my interest, and I will never let him out of my sight." Grian replied.
Mumbo nodded, attempting to comprehend Grian's words. “So…what are we going to do?”
“Dispose the body far from this town, attach heavy weights to it, and then throw it in the large deserted lake.” Grian answered Mumbo's question. "Get rid of the body and pretend nothing happened."
Grian heads down to the basement alongside Mumbo, discovering Cub lifeless on the ground again. The stench odor of a terrible corpse fills the whole basement, with dried blood spattered on the concrete, making Grian and Mumbo feel nauseous.
“How long was I unconscious when I fainted?” Grian pinches his nose.
“Uhh…I guess an hour since I fainted as well.” Mumbo also pinches his nose.
"I-I need hydrogen peroxide to remove the dried blood mark from the floor…rope, concrete block, trash bag and…" Grian continues to gaze at Cub's motionless body. “Maybe a handsaw to cut his body into sections to fit in the bag for disposal in the lake…”
Mumbo gazes at Grian in disbelief. “GRIAN!” "You've already killed him!...you can't dismember his body!”
Grian approaches Cub's body and loosens the rope and zip ties. “It should be enjoyable, however.” Grian glances back at Mumbo with a wide smile. "I'm kidding Mumbo, I'm not someone who would actually do that way.”
Mumbo exhales softly, feeling a sense of relief. "Besides, you're not a killer…you accidentally pull the trigger unintentionally."
Grian remained quiet, shifting the topic. “Mumbo, I’m fairly certain we need your vehicle since I have a motorcycle…We need to hurry with getting rid of the body before sunrise begins.”
"I'll get the supplies urgently then." Mumbo dashed up the stairs.
Grian observed that Cub's lab coat pocket contained something.
“What is this…?” Grian searches through Cub's lab coat pocket and takes out a polaroid photo.
“Grian, I need your help!” Mumbo shouted from the upper floor.
Grian continued to gaze at the polaroid photo for a while, unbothered, then slipped it into his pocket and went up the stairs. "I'm on my way."
Mumbo sitting in the driver's seat of the car waiting.
Grian pulled Cub's lifeless body in the garbage bag to Mumbo's vehicle, then lifted it and placed it in the trunk before shutting it. Grian sits in the passenger seat beside Mumbo and shuts the door. “Just drive, and I'll guide you on which turn to take to reach the abandoned big lake.”
“Hold on, what about using concrete blocks for the weight?” Mumbo clutches the steering wheel anxiously.
“Plan change, we can find a large boulder to tie to his body and shove it directly into the lake's cliff.” Grian puts on a seat belt. “Go left and keep going straight ahead then the rest i’ll tell you, since it’s very hidden.”
“O-Okay” Mumbo started to drive off.
Grian pulls out Scar Phone and goes through missing messages.
"Whose phone is that?" Mumbo had a brief look at the phone.
“Scar...and I'm looking at the unread messages I missed. It's so many phone calls and text messages between him and Pearl.” "I had no idea they communicated daily and nightly, they were messaging on the very day I met Scar." Grian becomes annoyed and frustrated.
“Oh yeah! Pearl told me and Cleo that when Gem’s brother first showed up, Gem handed his phone number to Pearl to create a solid bond between them because, you know, Gem is in love with her and wishes to see them grow close as friends” Mumbo chuckles slightly.
“Gem is unaware that Pearl will develop feelings for Scar!” “And Scar could begin to develop feelings for her as well! I don't want that to happen. He belongs to me!” Grian continues to angrily scroll through messages.
"Mate, you need to quit being so possessive about Gem’s brother." “He has the right to date anyone-” Grian cuts off Mumbo.
“They are texting again!” Grian looks it over text
"Just let me know my destination." Mumbo keeps on driving.
“Continue straight for one hour and then take a right; we should spot the forest and be far from the town.” Grian keeps on reading messages. “Pearl just ask out Scar!”
"What are you trying to say?" Mumbo is confused on Grian responds.
“Scar was invited by Pearl to the anniversary party of Jimmy and Tango!” Grian makes another sound of frustration.
“You realize that our friends, including Gem and her brother, will be attending Jimmy and Tango’s anniversary celebration. As your best friend, it might be wise to take a week away from Scar before the party…you're only just admitting feelings for the guy who recently became single after a painful, misleading breakup." Mumbo stated.
Grian put away Scar's phone from his pocket. “Maybe you're correct…a week or a couple more weeks to let him be and perhaps Scar might accept my feelings when I confess it again.”
Mumbo slightly opens his mouth to reply but hesitates before shutting it closed. "Let’s concentrate on this and not on the text exchange between Pearl and Scar."
Grian nodded. “Fine.”
After an hour of driving, Mumbo and Grian reached the forest, distant from the town and all other people.
Grian takes the rope from the back of the passengers and then follows Mumbo.
Mumbo opens the rear trunk and helps Grian in carrying a heavy garbage Cub body bag, then proceeds walking toward the deep forest to reach the nearby big cliffside lake.
“Is this the location?” Mumbo softly placed the garbage bag body onto the ground.
Grian looks around. "It was once a summer gathering spot with Jimmy and Pearl along with our parents. That was many years ago when we were children until it was left behind…and abandoned from the public."
Mumbo tries to see the surroundings. "Unfortunately, I can’t view this in the daylight, it’s quite dark…"
“There are several different sizes of boulder rocks to connect it with. We need a heavy boulder to make sure his body stays at the bottom…" Grian checking various sizes of boulders.
“Grian, i wanted to ask you something.” “Did you actually accidentally pull the trigger or…” Mumbo gazes at Grian.
“Found the perfect size!” Grian takes the rope to wrap around the boulder and then grabs a garbage body bag to tie it securely in place.
Mumbo nervously twiddled his fingers.
Grian looked down at the garbage body bag. "I'm sorry... and may you find peace." as Grian attempts to roll the large boulder off the cliff toward the lake.
Mumbo helped Grian in pushing the boulder off the cliff to pull Cub's dead body wrapped in a garbage bag, straight down to the lake.
Mumbo and Grian remained quiet for a moment until Grian pulled his custom lighter and Polaroid photo from his pocket.
"Are you going to smoke a cigarette again?" Mumbo shows a disapproving glance at Grian.
“No… I'm just going to burn this pointless polaroid photo I found and get rid of it.” Grian lifted the lighter lid, created a spark, and brought it near the polaroid photo to set it aflame. Waiting for the polaroid picture to finish burning and Grian toss it to the ground.
Grian smiled as he observed a polaroid photo of Cub and Scar together turn to ashes. "Good riddance."
"We should return back to your house…" Mumbo walks to the vehicle alongside Grian.
"We should."
Chapter 13: Questionable
Chapter Text
Grian is startled awake by the ringing at his front door, having soreness in his back from the previous night.
Grian gets up and steps out of the bedroom irritated, then notices Mumbo preparing coffee for himself. “You should have answered the door.”
"I need my coffee first, and also, this isn't my home to open the door." Mumbo stretches and yawns while he waits for the coffee maker to finish. "Put on your shirt before you open the door, you're only half dressed in pajama trousers."
“I’m always like this…” Grian approaches the front door and opens it. “Hello, who is th—“ Grian's eyes widen, surprised by the sight of Scar at the door.
“Oh! Scar…H-How on earth did you find out where I live?” Grian feels a little uneasy, attempting to hide due to his guilt.
"I asked your sister about your address and came here because I wanted to discuss what happened yesterday before I leave for work." Scar gazed at Grian's half naked body and felt a slight blush to his cheeks.
“Uh, I’m sorry for not wearing–”
"Grian! There’s no cereal left in your kitchen!” Mumbo walks behind Grian while he drinks coffee from one of Grian mugs and then sees Scar in front of Grian.
Mumbo's cheeks flush with embarrassment. “Oh…apologies for cutting into the discussion.” as Mumbo moved toward the kitchen.
Scar observed Grian half undressed while spotting Mumbo in the kitchen behind him.
Grian noticed Scar glancing back and forth between him and Mumbo until he understood what was going on. “W-Wait!" "It’s not as it seems, Scar."
"Seems to me that you've been busy with another person since yesterday, the same day you confessed your feelings for me." Scar looked at Grian and turned away, making his way towards the vehicle.
Grian quickly chases after Scar and grabs Scar's wrist just before he enters the vehicle. "He's my–" as Scar yanked Grian's hand away from him.
"We can chat later once I finish work." "Go have fun and stick your penis inside another person." Scar gets into the vehicle and is ready to shut the door until Grian stops him.
“Why are you behaving this way?” “Are you beginning to feel jealous?”
“I have no idea, Grian!” "I'm just…confused!" Scar remained quiet and shut the car door, inserted the key to start the engine, and then rolled the window down.
"As a matter of fact, forget the conversation." "It's stupid of me to come here, then be by myself and think things through..." Scar sighed.
Grian looked at Scar. "Whatever you see, he and I are best friends." "I respect your space, but please talk to me when you're ready."
“Okay…” Scar feels somewhat reassured, then glances away slightly and drives off.
Grian feels his heart ache as he watches Scar drive away. As Scar leaves, Grian turns and heads back into the house, slamming the door shut.
“He thinks we’re together!” "Seriously! This was a chance for a real conversation, and he believes I'm just having a fling with you!” Grian becomes somewhat annoyed.
"That's ridiculous, but I can't blame him since you admitted your feelings yesterday and now he's seeing you half undressed while I'm searching through your food cabinet." Mumbo continues to search for cereal.
“I guess…” “The cereal box is also in the top left, I’m going back to bed…” Grian returns to his bedroom and shuts the door.
A week has passed since Scar last spoke to him. Maybe Scar despises him due to the accident on the amusement park Ferris Wheel. Grian has difficulty keeping his distance from Scar and begins to stalk him from the apartment window every night.
If it were possible to do it daily and during daytime, Grian would stalk Scar more often in a heartbeat, but he couldn’t due to work and the risk of being caught, so he had to settle for doing it every night. It gives Grian some reassurance that Scar is safe and currently has no one to connect with since he’s single.
Throughout a week without Scar speaking to him, he frequently tried to talk more with Gem to gather more details about Scar's activities, which mostly involve Pearl and Scar spending time together rather than Grian being with Scar or Gem with Pearl.
Tomorrow is the anniversary celebration for Jimmy, and he is aware that Scar will be attending the event. Grian needs to execute his plans to make Scar talk to him while also respecting Scar's boundaries.
Grian pulls out his phone and starts to text Scar.
Message to ❤︎Scar❤︎
Grian Text 10:20PM: Hey Scar, i wanted to tell you if you want to be my plus one at Jimmy anniversary tomorrow. I can pick you up from my motorcycle.
Scar Text 10:34 PM: Where did you get my phone number?
Grian Text 10:35PM: Gem gave me your phone number.
Scar Text 10:35PM: Sorry Grian, but Pearl invited me and Gem to accompany her to Jimmy's anniversary party tomorrow. She's also going to drive us in her car, so it's not necessary.
Scar Text 10:35PM: We hope to see you tomorrow.
Grian Text 10:35PM: Are you still upset with me because of Mumbo or the Ferris wheel?
Scar Text 10:40PM: Night
Grian Text 10:40PM: Night.
Grian lets out an irritated groan. “Pearl keeps standing between us…” “Even so, Gem will be with them, so perhaps it’s not as terrible as I imagine.”
Grian lies on his back in bed, pulling out Scar's phone and browsing through pictures. "Geez, who would want to take this many photos of themselves?" as Grian isn't upset about how attractive Scar looks in most of the images.
Grian spotted a picture of Scar alongside what appeared to be his father. Grian remained silent and remembered Scar's conversation about how his father kept hurting him whenever he's drunk.
"Why in the world would Scar still keep a picture of them?" Grian thinks and quickly checks on Scar's contact list, noticing Scar's father's phone number is still there.
Grian's thoughts are filled with many questions about this and why Scar would continue to stay in touch with him.
Grian feels even angrier about Scar’s father not having consequences of hurting Scar, while Scar ultimately still forgives him, showing understanding and continuing to love him as his father.
Grian noticed a pattern from Scar repeatedly forgives those who continuously hurt him and remains open to loving them, regardless of their actions. It raises the question of why Scar hasn’t forgiven Grian or spoken to him, yet forgives someone else who has done much worse.
Grian saved Scar’s father’s phone number in his contact list. “I need to have a conversation with him and get him to confess why he hurt Scar in the first place…” as Grian placed his phone and Scar’s phone on the bedside table.
Grian switches off the lamp and lies down, gazing at the ceiling and trying to piece together the relationship between Scar’s father and why Scar forgives others but not him.
figuring out and thinking of trying to understand makes Grian feel exhausted, making him shut his eyes and drift off to sleep.
Chapter 14: Misunderstanding or Not?
Chapter Text
Today is the day of Jimmy and Tango's anniversary party. Luckily the party doesn’t start in the afternoon and most of the friends group are going to be there.
Grian struggles to pick what kind of casual outfit he should wear. He wants to show off and impress Scar by wearing something casual than his bad boy style, hoping for Scar to notice him at the party.
Grian also wonders what his sister would wear to the event. He doesn’t want Pearl to catch Scar attention from the way her dress would look on her. It makes Grian an unpleasant feeling to even think about Scar staring at someone other than him.
He wants this day to be perfect and to have a conversation with Scar about why he’s avoiding him.
Grian picks out an outfit and gets changed before heading out.
Grian arrived at the venue and saw that nearly all his friend’s vehicles were parked, except for Pearl. Grian feels a bit anxious if something bad happens to them while they're driving or if they arrive late.
Grian enters the venue and spots Jimmy and Tango together. “Hey Tim” “Hello Tango”
“It’s Jimmy!” Jimmy looks at Grian.
Tango glanced back and spotted Grian. “Hi Grian, I’m glad you showed up.” “Where’s your partner?”
"What are you trying to say?" Grian gazes at Tango.
Cleo appears between Grian and Tango, then takes hold of Tango's arm and yanks it. "Tango, I need your help, come!"
"Alright then." "I’ll catch up with you later, Grian," Tango gives a quick kiss to Jimmy before heading out with Cleo.
Jimmy kisses back at Tango.
“What does Tango mean where’s my partner?” Grian looks over at Jimmy.
“He probably meant coming here in the venue with a friend, instead of coming here by yourself.” Jimmy smiled.
Joel surprises Jimmy and Grian with hugs from behind, causing them to jump slightly. "What are you two discussing?"
"Geez, Joel!" "You scared me." Jimmy chuckles slightly.
Grian sighs and smiles at Joel. "Oh nothing but you did catch us off guard"
Joel glanced away and saw two people coming in. “Are Scar and Pearl together?”
Grian quickly turned his head to Joel's direction and saw Pearl in a stunning long simple navy blue dress, then he realized Scar was also wearing a navy blue casual suit.
He can’t understand why they are matching colors, they’re not even together as a couple for that. Grian also asked why Gem is not with them. Grian needs to speak and separate them before it escalates.
Grian immediately approaches Pearl and Scar. “Hey guys.” Pearl turned around and saw Grian. “Hey Grian, you got here before we did.” “What a surprise.”
"Yeah, I’d like to arrive here earlier." Grian was relieved to see Gem walking next to Pearl.
Scar gave a slight wave at Grian and turned to look at them. “I’m going to get drinks for both of you.” Scar turned and walked off.
“Bring me champagne, Scar.” Gem hands the car keys to Pearl.
"I took care of parking your car because you're worried about bumping into something." Gem smiled at Pearl.
"Thanks, Gem. You are my hero.” Pearl hugs Gem.
"You both look adorable together, sort of like a long married couple." Grian gazes at them.
Gem gazes at Grian with a serious expression.
“We sort of resemble an old married couple, don’t you think, Gem?” Pearl giggles slightly.
"I suppose." Gem's face turned slightly pink.
Grian grinned playfully. “Honestly, you two are adorable together as a couple.” “Pearl is single…Gem is si—“
Gem steps slightly on Grian's foot with her heel to silence him.
“Pearl, can you go with my brother and help him find our table?” Gem smiled at Pearl.
Pearl looks at both of them. “Uh, okay?” “Call us if you need anything.” Pearl walks away and heads to where Scar is.
Gem and Grian stood by until Pearl walked away, then Gem turned to Grian with a furious look.
“What's the matter with you!” “I don’t want Pearl to stop being my friend.” "Our friendship is at risk if she finds out, Grian!”
Grian groaned in pain from his foot. “I was trying to help!” “You need to tell your feelings before it’s too late.”
Gem remained quiet.
"I don’t want to end our friendship just because I've confessed my feelings." Gem looks at Pearl from a far distance alongside Scar. "I'll tell her when it’s the right moment."
“I understand…” Grian sees Scar from a distance as well.
“Gem, would you mind helping me by taking Pearl away from Scar?” “I want to speak with him alone.” Grian glances at Gem.
"Of course, just don’t say stupid things like you did at the Ferris wheel." Gem replies.
“You were knew!?” Grian feels embarrassed.
“My brother shares everything with me, even when he hides some things.” “I will always find out more quickly than he realizes.” Gem chuckles and approaches Pearl.
Grian notices Gem and Pearl moving toward another group of friends, leaving Scar at the table.
Grian lets out a sigh and approaches Scar. “Scar... can we speak outside?”
Scar pauses before replying.
“Please?…” Grian gazes at Scar.
Scar gets up. "Fine."
Grian and Scar step outside the venue, away from the crowd.
“What is it that you want?” Scar folds his arms and avoids looking at Grian.
“What is it that I want?” “Scar, you avoided me and didn't speak to me for a week. You said you would speak to me after work, but you totally ghosted me.” Grian gazes at Scar.
"There's really nothing for us to discuss…"
“You're not even looking in my direction!” “I…I can’t understand you!” Grian becomes annoyed. "You forgive your father who abused you and your ex who betrayed you then hurt you, yet you can't forgive me!"
“What is there for you to understand me!?” "You are the one who lied and betrayed your partner because of me!" Scar turns his direction to Grian.
“What do you mean I lied and cheated?” Grian gets more confused.
"I needed a second opinion about your relationship with Mumbo, so I asked Pearl…she told me that you two are exclusive and—"
“Pearl said that.” Grian remained silent. "She did."
"What's making you confused?" “It’s the entire reason why I can’t see you anymore because you’re already in a relationship.” Scar stated.
"That’s the reason you haven't forgiven me…" Grian realized.
“Could it have been a misunderstanding?” Scar questioned Grian's reply.
Grian chuckles slightly. "Completely misunderstanding." “Mumbo and I are best friends, nothing else… I don’t see him the way I see you.”
Grian hand touched Scar's cheek, gazing into his beautiful green eyes. “My heart is yours and yours alone...no one else.” "My feelings are hundred percent genuine."
Scar rests his hand on Grian's hand, leaning his face into Grian's warmth. “I…I need more time to be on my own, and I can’t give you what you want while I’m still hurting from the breakup.”
Scar removes Grian's hand from his cheek. "You should find another person and be in a relationship since I'm a mess…"
"I'm not going anywhere." Grian continues to gaze at Scar. “Regardless of how many days, weeks, months, or even years…I'll be here for you when you're ready.”
Scar places a soft kiss on Grian's forehead.
“Just wait for me when I’m ready…” Grian's cheeks flush bright red from an unexpected kiss from Scar. Before Grian could reply to Scar, Scar returned to the venue and came back with Gem.
Scar's kiss brings him comfort, causing his heart to race with the realization that Scar was open to the possibility of the relationship. Grian feels like the luckiest man in the world until he remembers Pearl lying to Scar and sabotaging his opportunities with Scar.
Grian needs to speak with Pearl about this situation. He doesn’t want Pearl to be the next victim just like Cub. He hopes Pearl isn’t doing it intentionally, and keeping Scar to herself.
If Pearl refused to be with Gem and chose to keep pursuing Scar, then he might get rid of her for good.
An eye for eye as people say.
Grian also needs to reach out to Scar's father without Scar knowing and find out why he caused Scar pain.
For now, Grian should enjoy the party with everyone.

Chapter Text
Grian waited for Scar to enter inside and Grian could stay outside for a few minutes to smoke cigarettes and calm his nerves before entering the venue. Grian isn’t addicted, but at times he needs it when he feels anxious or faces hard situations he prefers to avoid.
He also prefers no one to witness him like this, especially Scar the most. He tells everyone that he has quit, but how could he when he enjoys the numbness feeling, and guilt pleasure from a slight burn to his fingertips on cigarettes sometimes. Grian wished he could stay outside for a long time by smoking a whole pack of cigarettes alone, but a part of him didn’t want anyone worrying about him, similar to Jimmy. Mostly did not want Jimmy to be concerned about him smoking tobacco during his whole anniversary celebration.
Grian finishes his cigarette and puts it out before reentering the venue. He notices Scar and Pearl dancing together, with Gem nowhere to be seen. Grian doesn't like Pearl being extremely close to him while Scar is oblivious to what she’s planning.
Grian feels uneasy watching them dance together, particularly to a slow romantic song.
Before Grian approaches them, Cleo walks herself in front of him.
“Hey Grian.” “May I have a word with you..” Cleo looks at Grian.
“Sure?” “Is there something important to discuss with me?..” Grian replied.
"I heard about what happened at the amusement park, involving you and Scar." "I suggest that you both keep your distance from each other, Scar isn't in the right mindset to consider a relationship with you, and I'm mentioning this out of concern for you both.” Cleo shown concern facial expression.
“Just because you and Etho ended your relationship doesn’t mean Scar and I will follow the same path as you two–”
Cleo interrupts Grian. “It doesn’t concern me and Etho.” "You and Scar started being friends for several weeks, and now you recently want to start a relationship with him while Scar is trying to get over the breakup from his year long relationship."
Grian remained silent, attempting to reply.
Out of nowhere, Jimmy draws everyone's focus by gently tapping a fork against his glass of champagne. “Everyone, listen up!”
All eyes are on Jimmy and Tango.
“I appreciate everyone for being here and celebrating the anniversary of my relationship with Tango.” Jimmy takes both of Tango's hands.
Tango looks at Jimmy confused. “Jimmy?”
“Tango, you have been the light of my life.” "Since the moment I met you, I had no idea our love would be so genuine and sincere. Whenever I look at you, my heart skips a beat. From the moment we became a couple, I have felt entirely whole.” Jimmy crouches on one knee and pulls out a tiny box from his back pocket.
Jimmy presents a proposal ring to Tango, leaving everyone shocked and surprised. “Will you make the happiest man alive and live your life alongside me?”
Tango placed his hand over his mouth, tears of joy streaming down, and he nodded. "Yes!"
Jimmy placed a proposal ring on Tango's finger, rising quickly and kissed Tango.
Tango smiled and kissed Jimmy back.
Everyone applauded for them, except Grian. He feels happy for his younger brother, but it deeply hurts him that he lacks a fairytale romance with someone meaningful. He hopes Scar and he could be like them.
Cleo gave Grian's shoulder a gentle pat. "I'm not trying to prevent you and Scar from beginning a relationship, but consider being friends for a year or two… have fun at the party, Grian." Cleo says as she heads toward Bdubs and Etho.
Grian lets out a soft sigh, gazing at Jimmy and Tango.
Scott walked alongside Grian and smiled. “They seem happy together, I'm happy for them.”
“They do…” Grian gazes at Scott. “Do you feel happy to see them together instead of you and Jimmy?”
“I view Jimmy and I as friends instead of exes.” Scott took a sip of wine.
“I haven't seen you in some time, how is your work as an investigator going?” Grian becomes nervous.
“Hmm, I've been quite busy lately, but I recently dealt with a murder case... However, I can't speak to anyone as it would lead to my dismissal.” Scott gazes at Grian.
“Murder case?...what kind of murder case are we talking about?” Grian worry.
"I shouldn’t tell you, but we discovered a body at the lake following a report of a recent murder." "I can't specify the location or provide more details, but that's one of my cases."
“Oh... That’s scary, whoever did that is a terrible person…” Grian gazes at Scott.
“So, how about you?” “I just spoke with Gem’s brother, and I have to admit, he’s quite good looking for being single, but Cleo mentioned that Scar is dealing with a recent breakup." Scott looks at Scar in the distance.
“Not you too.” “Pearl said the same thing when she found out Scar isn’t in a relationship with his ex.” Grian folds his arms.
Scott chuckles. “Calm down, Grian.” “I understand you really like Scar, and I assure you I'm not trying to take him from you. What I want to mention is that Pearl isn’t aware of your feelings for him; she doesn’t intend any harm.”
"I suppose, but I still need to talk privately tomorrow based on what she mentioned to Scar on that stupid lie…"
"What lie?" Scott asked Grian.
“She told Scar that Mumbo and I were in an exclusive relationship and–”
"I assumed you and Mumbo were exclusive too, just like everyone else in our group." “Not only Pearl, Grian.” Scott replied.
Grian observes Scar and Pearl while Gem is talking with them. "Regardless, I have to speak with her tomorrow." “It truly frustrates me that Pearl is becoming so close to him, and I will not allow it to continue…”
“If Pearl and Scar end up as a couple, there are many other fish in the ocean to discover someone new.” Scott stated.
"I don't want anyone else... my heart is for Scar, and he is mine, not for anyone else."
"What about the situation with BigB?" "During our time in high school, he confessed his feelings for you, and you rejected him." Scott finished his wine drinking.
"I have no feelings for him and I prefer not to discuss him." Grian mentioned.
"It'll surely be uncomfortable since he’s returning from his extended trip." Scott pulls out his phone and shows social media to Grian from BigB.
“Is he?” Grian appears disbelief and notices BigB social media update.
Grian was surprised that BigB is returning to the town from his long travel. He hasn't seen him in over a year since Grian continued to reject and avoid him.
Grian not only has to manage Pearl getting closer to Scar but also has to deal with BigB appearing in the picture. Even more unsettling, Scott had already discovered the corpse in the abandoned lake due to a report made by someone.
It can't possibly be any worse than it currently is?...

Chapter Text
It's already night and only a few guests are still at the party, making it the perfect moment to ask Scar if he'd like to ride his motorcycle and chill at his place.
Grian isn’t interested or concerned about Cleo’s advice to avoid Scar. It’s been several days without talking or seeing Scar, apart from watching him every night. He could no longer bear to be apart from him anymore.
Grian sees Gem and Pearl dancing together while Scar is seated alone at the table, he approaches the table where Scar is sitting by himself. "Hey handsome." “Is this seat available by any chance?”
Scar turned around and noticed Grian, smiling and replying playfully. “Hey, light of my life.” "The seat is certainly occupied by me, so you gotta go."
Grian's heart raced quicker, feeling ready to jump out from his chest because Scar called him that, even if it was a joke. He genuinely wants to be his light in his life and being everything to Scar.
"This seat is now occupied by me." Grian sat down beside Scar and chuckled softly.
Scar and Grian shared a quiet moment, free from interruptions or distractions.
“Would you like to join me for a motorcycle ride and chill at my place?...” Grian glances at Scar.
Scar remained quiet for a moment before answering Grian.
“Before you mention that you’re not ready… I just want to spend time with you alone and…” Grian shifts his gaze and falls silent for a bit. “I miss you and spending time with you during those few days without talking to each other.”
“I miss you too, G.” “Sure, let’s chill at your place, but later you’ll take me back to the apartment.” Scar got up from his chair. "No funny business."
Grian glances at Scar and grins before standing up. "No funny business, it's just two great friends spending time and relaxing."
Scar and Grian exited the venue together.
They reach Grian's house, step inside together, and Grian quickly removes his suit coat.
“I truly hate putting on a suit…” Grian removes his casual shoes and gazes at Scar.
Scar removes the navy coat and casual shoes by the door, next to the coat rack. "I completely agree with you."
“What does that mean?” “Are you telling me that I look bad on it?” Grian chuckles.
“Nope.” Scar takes a seat on the sofa in the living room. “I definitely like your usual bad boy outfits better.”
Grian's cheeks redden as he turns to Scar, surprised. “You really do?”
Scar glazes Grian's face flushing and grins playfully. “Oh definitely...especially watching you in that black leather jacket while riding your motorcycle.”
"I can't tell whether you're joking or if you truly meant it." Grian sat beside Scar on the sofa. “Would you like a beer or some other beverage?”
“Hm, no comment, and I don’t want a drink but I appreciate the offer, Grian.” Scar glances at Grian.
Grian found it hard to look away from Scar and his stunning emerald green eyes, the scent of pine cones, being near Scar made Grian wish to feel his soft skin once more.
“I wanted to say sorry for not speaking to you; I just felt a strange feeling seeing you and Mumbo together at your home…” “I assume you hook up and–”
“Did you feel jealous?” Grian continued to gaze at Scar's eyes.
“I’m not sure.” "I'm really confused by these feelings…especially because I'm not in the best state of mind after just ending the relationship," Scar gets quiet. "It's difficult to explain since a small part of me still loves Cub...even though he ended our relationship."
"What about the kiss on the Ferris Wheel and the kiss in the apartment?" Grian moves in closer to Scar. “You kissed me in return and didn’t try to pull away from it?…”
Scar gazes at Grian. “Grian…” “I’m not sure why I returned your kiss.”
Grian touched Scar's chin and softly kissed his tender lips. He enjoys Scar's soft lips against his, sensing the warmth they share without any hurry or being interrupted.
Scar shut his eyes and returned the soft kiss without any hesitation.
Grian pulled away from the soft kiss and pressed a kiss to Scar's neck, noticing Scar's quiet gasp from the surprising neck kiss.
“G-Grian…we shouldn't.” Scar replied.
“Why is that?” “I enjoy listening to your moans, just as we did at the apartment.” Grian kisses Scar on the jawline.
Grian stops entirely and gazes at Scar while brushing his gentle lips with his fingertips. “I care for you deeply.”

Chapter 17: Part Two: You Belong To Me
Summary:
Slight Warning: small mention abuse and small rape mention
Chapter Text
Grian glances down and notices Scar's arms marked with scars. "Could you please take off your shirt...so I can view your entire body?"
He couldn't fully see Scar's body during their intimacy at the apartment since the room was entirely dark. Even though Grian wanted to erase the memory of that regrettable night they had, Scar remains unaware of it from the situation. At least not for now until Grian admits it later.
Scar remained quiet as he unbuttoned his shirt, exposing scars across his body.
He could see that Scar is showing signs of embarrassment, shame, and sadness from the scars surrounding him. Grian adores every part of Scar, no matter his looks or anything else.
“Is your back covered in scars as well?…” Grian hesitated a bit before asking the question to Scar.
Scar silently turns his back, revealing more scars on his skin. "This is embarrassing...showing this."
Grian continued to gaze at Scar, resting his hand on him and beginning to message Scar back in return. “What’s so embarrassing about this?”
"I'm embarrassed about it, and I don't want others to know about it..." "I even lied to Gem about how these scars happened, saying they were accidents instead of telling the truth about what my abusive father did to me during their divorce when we were children." Scar's voice trembles slightly as he fights back tears.
“You don’t deserve that… and neither does your father receiving your forgiveness.” Grian plants soft kisses on various areas of Scar's back, making Scar gasp softly in surprise. “I love the scars on your body, no matter what happened in that situation…you shouldn't feel ashamed of it.”
Scar sensed Grian's lips kissing the scars on his back. “G…”
Grian planted kisses along Scar's neck from behind, wrapping his arm around him and bringing Scar closer to his side. "I love everything about you."
Scar feels overwhelmed by Grian’s touch, sensing acceptance in the words spoken to him, and soon notices tears streaming down his cheek. “I'm sorry…”
“No need…you need to hear it from someone since you've faced tough times living with your father…” Grian gently wipes away Scar's tears and smiles. “It’s getting late, I’d like you to stay and I can take you home in the morning before I go to work.”
Scar nods in agreement to the suggestion of staying overnight, which made Grian very happy.
“I'll get some extra sleepwear for you from my closet, and we can share my bed.” Grian stood up from the couch and was about to walk away when Scar grabbed his hand to stop him.
"We?" “I was kind of thinking that I should sleep on the couch.” Scar gazed at Grian.
"I suppose we can share the couch for sleeping, but it will be cramped for us to fit." Grian looks at Scar.
Scar laughs from Grian's response. “No, I was referring to sleeping apart from—”
“Why?” "Are you afraid that something might happen between us if we share a bed?" Grian grins before leaning in closer to Scar's face and notices his cheeks were flushed.
“Fine.“ “I guess we can sleep together in bed but we keep our hands to ourselves.” Scar sighed.
Scar changed into sleepwear clothes given by Grian and got onto the bed, pulling the blanket over himself. “How is it that your shirt and pajama pants are the same size as mine?”
“to respond your question about it.” "It was... uh, because my friend Skizz lived here with me for some time before moving out to stay with Impulse." Grian says a lie anxiously.
Grian doesn't want to tell the truth to Scar that he has been watching him in the apartment and knowing every little detail about him, including his food preferences, clothing sizes, and his likes and dislikes. Grian even knows Scar's activities on social media being posted whenever he’s online.
He secretly buys extra clothes for Scar in his closet, just in case Scar ever needs to move out of the apartment or is looking to stay overnight. Sometimes Grian snuggles the new clothes he got for Scar and wishes he were here.
Grian lies down beside Scar and then switches off the lamp by the bed.
“Hold on, you’re going to bed without a shirt?” Scar gazes at Grian.
"Is there a problem?" “I always go to bed without a shirt on.” Grian stretches and yawns.
“Just asking, that’s all.” “Sleep well, Grian.” Scar lay on his side, turning away from Grian.
Grian saw Scar keeping his distance, and immediately hugged Scar from behind, acting as the big spoon. "Why do you keep distancing yourself from me, Scar?"
"Grian, you understand the reason–"
“Tell me the reason because I genuinely don't have a clue, Scar." Grian playfully interrupts Scar.
Scar remained quiet for a moment before letting out a sigh. “Since you and I struggle to maintain control, that could lead to intimacy…and I don’t want to jeopardize the friendship we share.”
“And…is that a bad thing?” Grian becomes silent.
“No…” “It’s not necessarily bad if we go for it…since a part of me somewhat wants to, in a guilty way.” Scar shuts his mouth for a moment and reconsiders. “Let’s set it aside and get some rest.”
Grian leans in and whispers to Scar. "We can do that later, but for now…I want to cuddle you and hold you close to me."
Scar shifted and turned his body to face Grian, then hugged Grian back warmly. "I would prefer that instead."
“Scar, this may seem wild, but I feel like I’ve known you forever, and I know this is quick to say, but…I like to ask you to go out with me.” Grian spoke softly, pausing for an answer.
He noticed that Scar's face became blank as Scar struggled with whether to respond. Grian's heart sank slightly, feeling hurt by the hesitation he felt coming from him.
A part of him understood that Scar needed time and space alone, yet he couldn’t bear the distance from Scar.
“I—” Scar is cut off by Grian from a hurtful tone voice coming.
“No, it’s okay.” “it was foolish of me to ask you out when you've mentioned needing some time to yourself…” Grian turns his gaze to the side to prevent eye contact.
“Grian, I didn’t expect you to ask me out on a date at this moment.” Scar chuckles softly. "I accept going out with you on a date, you silly goose."
Grian shifts his gaze back to Scar. “y-you agree?!” “Why is that?”
Scar shows a big yawn, begins shutting his eyes close and feeling more drowsy. “Why not?…you seem to be an amazing person, and I enjoy noticing how nervous you become when I’m near you.”
"You surprised me too because I expected you to say no and that you weren't ready." Grian remains quiet and listens for Scar’s reply, then eventually hears snoring from Scar.
Grian watches Scar drift off to sleep, then gently places his hand on Scar's cheek. “I would make sure nobody interfered between us…”
Grian gives a goodnight kiss on Scar's lips, then drifts off to sleep beside him, pulling Scar in closer to him.
Chapter 18: Change Of View
Chapter Text
Scar POV
Bright sunlight streamed through the window into Scar's eyes, waking him up on Grian's bed, dressed in worn sleepwear given by him, and suddenly Scar realized he was alone without Grian beside him.
“Grian?” Scar jumps out of bed in a panic and walks out. Scar noticed Grian cooking breakfast meals in the kitchen, giving him relief and nerves calm down.
“Everything okay Scar?” Grian turns his attention toward Scar, feeling a bit concerned. “You look scared and–”
“I’m fine.” “I just don’t really like being by myself alone…” Scar stared at pancakes with fruits on the side. Scar found it rather strange to see a particular fruit he enjoys with pancakes, leading him to wonder whether Gem told Grian of his liking, yet he still appreciates the effort Grian has made for breakfast.
“I was not expecting you to prepare breakfast for me.” Scar took a seat at the table and watched Grian as he carried two plates and placed them on the table. "You could have awakened me and helped you with this."
Grian sits closer to Scar. "Yeah, but I wanted to make it special for my beautiful guest."
Scar takes a raspberry from the plate and quietly eats it, noticing that Grian continues to stare at him instead of focusing on his breakfast. Scar isn't bothered by people staring at his looks, yet he feels his heart racing when Grian's dark eyes lock onto him specifically instead of anyone else.
A part of Scar felt guilty and ashamed for quickly developing feelings for his new friend in town.
Grian chuckles lightly at Scar, who has grabbed his attention.
"What’s funny?" Scar asked after he finished eating the raspberry.
"You have something on your lips from a raspberry." Grian moves in closer to Scar and runs his tongue over Scar's bottom lip before playfully biting it.
Scar lets out a small moan from a sudden pain caused by an unexpected bite from Grian.
“Grian…we shouldn’t do something stupid.” “We both have work today, I need to get back to the apartment and change clothes.” Scar face turns red.
"I am aware of that." "I just want to leave another bruise on you before we go." Grian looks his gaze away slightly and eats his breakfast.
“What do you mean another bruise?” Scar looks at Grian.
Scar noticed Grian's expression tightening and his hands fidgeting in response to the question. This isn’t the first time he saw Grian responding that way, ever since his breakup with Cub. Especially when an unusual question arises in their awkward discussions.
The uncomfortable silence is interrupted when he sees a notification alert from Bdubs in his messages and grabs his phone to read it.
Scar responds quickly to Bdubs.
“Who are you messaging with?...” Grian munching on waffles while he keeps gazing at Scar.
“Oh um it’s Bdubs.” “He was curious about whether I’m safe and not drinking alcohol.” Scar puts his phone away and quickly eats the pancakes.
“You know Bdubs as well?” “I didn’t know you guys were closer…” Grian remained silent.
"Uh yeah, he and I were really close when we were little kids along with Cleo before I moved away with my dad." Scar grinned at Grian. "Why are you asking?" “Are you feeling jealous of who I'm messaging?”
"I wouldn't describe it as jealousy, I was just curious." Grian breathed a sigh of relief.
"Also, I’m on board with having a date night with you, and Bdubs already has a partner." Scar rested his hand on Grian's arm.
Scar noticed a small hint of jealousy in Grian, despite Grian's denial. He wasn’t sure if it would be a deal breaker for him, but he had to give Grian a chance since he agreed to being on a date in the first place.
Grian takes Scar's hand and places a soft kiss on it. “Yeah, I'm not worried about it and we should get ready to go.”
Scar enjoys the feeling of Grian's soft lips kissing his hand, reminding him of last night when Grian expressed love and affection by kissing the marks on his back. For the first time, he feels no shame or embarrassment about his body, especially while being with Grian at this moment. He isn’t ready to fall in love right away. He doesn't want to ruin the moments. He doesn't want to get his heart broken. He is afraid of making the same mistakes he made with Cub.
Grian picks up their plates and puts it in the sink then heads to the bedroom.
“Do you want me to wash the dishes?” Scar gets up and heads to the bedroom.
“I’m not making my guest do the work and besides, I'll wash it when i get back from work.” Grian smiled.
“Fine but next time when I visit here, I'm cooking and washing the dishes.” Scar takes off sleepwear shirt.
“Hm, I'll think about it.” Grian smiled.
“You didn’t have to walk with me straight to the apartment.” Scar walked with Grian to the apartment together.
“I wanted to.” Grian said as he kept holding Scar's hand.
Those are the exact words that Grian has repeated, as Grian continually finds time for him. It creates an unusual fluttering feeling from nervousness that is difficult to put into words.
Scar unlocks the door with a key. “Thank you for taking the time to walk me to the door, but aren't you supposed to be going to your work at the bookstore with Gem and Cleo?”
He glanced back at Grian once more, noticing his dark eyes still gazing on him and his goofy smile.
“Yeah…” Grian's smile fainted slightly. “Would you like me to pick you up on my motorcycle tonight for our date night before I head to work?”
"What do you think about tomorrow?" I will be very occupied with work and staying up late on the project landscape." Scar feels really awful for rescheduling the date night for tomorrow but hopes Grian would understand.
“Tomorrow is good too, as long as you spend time with me, everything will be fine.” Grian plants a kiss on Scar's hand.
"You don’t need to kiss my hand like a gentleman, but I appreciate you letting me stay, especially for making me breakfast." Scar chuckles lightly.
“I know, but I wanted to.” “Catch you tomorrow, Scar.” Grian grinned.
Scar face became flushed. "See you tomorrow, G."
A tiny guilty part of him wants Grian to stay by his side, but another part fears developing early feelings for someone and ending up with a broken heart again.
He needs to avoid it, but yet he can't resist beginning to fall for Grian.

Chapter Text
Grian arrived at the bookstore, feeling joyful and spotted Pearl at the front register. “Is that you, Pearl?” “What brings you to the bookstore, is everything okay?”
Pearl noticed Grian and smiled. "I’m here to help take charge of the Gem business as she has something important to attend to."
Grian is happy to see his sister again, but still feels jealousy and insecurity about how amazing a person she is, especially being as a partner for Scar than for him.
“You suddenly feel happy.” Pearl chuckles gently.
“Is it noticeable?” "I kind of asked Scar to go on a date with me tomorrow evening, and I’m feeling both nervous and excited." Grian says as he observes Pearl's expression shift, attempting to hide her reaction.
"Grian, that is so great! Scar is such a nice gentleman. I hope your date goes well with him. " Pearl smiled.
Grian knew Pearl faked her smile, willing to hide her feelings for him, but he had a plan to make Gem and Pearl be together rather than let Pearl come after Scar. His Scar.
“I was curious why you told Scar that me and Mumbo are exclusive or like friends with benefits.” “He honestly didn't talk to me for a few days because of you, Pearl.” Grian walks near the counter next to Pearl.
“I assume you and Mumbo were together, and I don’t want Scar to feel hurt or upset about it” Pearl handed out paperwork to Grian. “Scar was already hurt from the breakup with Cub, and I can't let him be hurt again because of my brother.”
“Mumbo and I are not in a relationship.” “it’s a big misunderstanding.” Grian looks at the paperwork from Gem.
“I’m sorry for misleading Scar about you and Mumbo. I care about Scar, just as I care deeply for Gem…” “Make sure he doesn’t get hurt again.” Pearl heads off to the back storage area.
A part of him knew it was already too late. Grian previously caused harm on him in a regrettable incident without Scar's consent while intoxicated.
He still hated himself for it.
An unsettling feeling of guilt weighs down on his chest, creating a tighter pressure that makes it more difficult for Grian to breathe.
He needs a cigarette after his shift is over, at least to help himself calm down.
Grian waited for his shift to end so he could go to Gem's office and collect a few files Gem had asked for based on Pearl's instructions. He doesn't mind getting stuff for Gem and taking them to her apartment because Scar is there.
“Grian, you may leave early.” Cleo tapped Grian's shoulder from behind. "I will take charge of closing down the bookstore."
“Are you sure?” Grian says while looking at Cleo.
“Positive.” Cleo hands a book to Grian. “Since you're picking up files for Gem, I need you to pass this book to Scar as I owe him for his help.”
Grian grabbed the book from Cleo and looked at the title. "Sketching Architecture?"
“Yeah,” Cleo smiled softly at Grian. “Scar enjoys seeing sketches on structures and designs.”
Grian silently nodded. “Alright, I will, I need to place the book in my backpack so it won't be lost while I'm riding my motorcycle.”
“Thank you, Grian, and please drive carefully when you leave the bookstore.” Cleo approaches the customer.
"Anytime Cleo and take care as well." Grian walked to Gem's office, opened the door, switched on the light, and opened the file storage system to grab a handful of files, then placed them in his backpack along with Scar's book.
Before Grian walked out, he spotted a key from Gem's apartment on the desk. Grian is unsure whether to keep it to himself without anyone realizing.
A sudden phone call from Grian phone alarms him, he takes out his phone and sees Gem name then answers. “Yes Gem?”
“Grian, i’m waiting for you in my apartment to bring my files from my office. Did you get it?” Gem said urgently.
“Yeah I got them and I'm about to head out of the bookstore but I need to head to the store quickly to get something and I should be there at your apartment soon.” Grian quickly takes the key and puts it in his pocket then walks out.
“The store?” Gem responded.
“By the way…is Scar with you by any chance?” Grian waved goodbye at Cleo and headed out the bookstore.
“Yes Grian, as a matter of fact your boyfriend barely came home from work and he’s exhausted.” Grian hears Gem laughing through a phone call.
Grian gets flustered. “Not my boyfriend…just yet but you heard what happened?”
“Yup!” “Call me back when you’re in the apartment complex”
“Alright, see you there.” Grian hangs up.
Grian walked up to the apartment door and started knocking, holding a bouquet of flowers. “Gem!” “I got your files in my backpack and–”
Scar opened the door and saw Grian, holding a bouquet of flowers. “Grian?”
Grian didn't expect Scar to open the door instead of Gem, hoping to give flowers to surprised Scar.
“Hey!” “I wanted to surprise you with a bouquet of flowers while I'm here to drop off files papers for Gem in my backpack.” Grian struggles to open his backpack while holding flowers.
“I can help you.” Scar says as he grabbed a bouquet of flowers from Grian. “Also Gem just left a couple minutes ago to pick up Pearl and I think another friend from Pearl, named BigB, went out to eat at the restaurant together.”
“Ah okay…I can leave the files here to you and head out.” “I didn’t mean to disturb you.” Grian said anxiously.
“You never disturb me, G.” Scar gives a heartful smile to Grian. “You can stay inside while waiting for my sister to come back.”
Grian enters and closes the door, noticing Scar searching for an empty vase to place the bouquet in. “I hope you enjoy the flowers I picked for you from the shop.” “I brought you lilacs because every time I’m close to you, I can smell lilacs combined with a hint of wooden pinecones from your hair and cologne.”
“Oh…I suppose it’s kind of you to take note of that.” Scar filled an empty vase with water from the kitchen sink and placed a bouquet of flowers inside. "Didn't notice you sniffed the scent of my hair when you're near me."
“Ughhh now he thinks I’m a weirdo…” Grian muttered as he hit himself on the forehead just as Scar exited the kitchen with a vase of flowers.
Scar places a vase of lilac flowers on the living room table center and gazes at the lilac flowers. "Thanks, Grian. I really appreciate the lilacs."
"Everything for you, Scar." Grian gazes at Scar, stunning green emerald eyes focus on flowers.
Scar turns his gaze on Grian.
“Would you like to sit on the couch and enjoy some wine while we chat?” Scar said to Grian.
Grian removed his backpack and sat on the couch. "Of course, I’m fine with having wine with you while we wait for Gem."
Scar nodded and stepped away to grab a bottle of wine along with two glasses.
“Before I forget…Cleo handed me a book for you as a thanks for your help.” Grian unzipped his backpack to take out a book and the Gem files, then set them on the living room table.
Scar returns with a bottle of wine and a pair of wine glasses. “I completely forgot the other book I asked for.” Scar said while he uncorked the wine bottle and filled both glasses halfway.
"I placed your book and documents on the table." Grian placed his backpack off to the side.
Scar gives Grian a wine glass and takes a seat beside him. “Thanks for delivering it to me.”
“No problem, but it will cost you for the delivery to your home.” Grian grinned at Scar.
Scar took a sip of wine from the glass as he gazed at Grian. "And what might that be?"
Grian nibbled his lower lip, pausing to respond and take a sip of his wine. “Never mind, it’s just too ridiculous for me to bring up.”
"Come on, share, you've caught my interest about this payment for—"
“A peck.” Grian blurted out suddenly as he became very embarrassed. “Or maybe not!” “If you prefer not to, you don’t need to kiss me, Scar.”
Scar's face momentarily showed no emotion before he chuckled softly and took another sip of his drink. “You’re adorable, you realize that?”
“I apologize for my strange behavior towards you, Scar.” Grian says while turning his gaze. “I've never really encountered anyone who is very attractive and charming.” "I really…like you so much and–"
Scar placed the wine glass on the living room table, then held Grian's jaw and kissed him halfway through his sentence. Not merely a peck kiss, it was the sort of kiss that caused time to freeze. Only their mouths moved, and the warmth shared between them was all that existed.
Grian pauses to breathe and set his wine glass down, his lips moving from Scar chin to his neck. He teasingly nipped at the edge of Scar's collarbone.
“G-Grian...” Scar breath hitched, feeling Grian gently biting him.
Grian shifts his weight onto Scar, causing Scar to lie back on the couch as Grian plants gentle pecks on the slight bite bruise. He moves back slightly to observe Scar lying beautifully, waiting to be taken by him. As memories of the event rush back, Grian begins to feel a wave of anxiety and nausea in his stomach from guilt.
"We can't do it..." “it seems wrong." Grian stood up from the couch. "I think it's best for me to leave."
"Why?" Scar said as he sat up quickly and grabbed Grian's wrist.
Grian remained quiet for a moment, avoiding eye contact with Scar. "I don't want to take advantage of the situation or hurt you."
Scar glanced at Grian and pulled Grian back to take a seat on the couch. "You won't harm me or take advantage of me because I want this.”
Grian shifts his attention back to Scar. “Don’t say that because… I can't stop myself from wanting to do harmful things to you, Scar.”
“What do you mean harmful things…” Scar seeing Grian leaning closer.
Grian tugged on the back of Scar's hair, pulling him nearer, their lips colliding as they kissed fiercely.
Scar groans softly between kisses as Grian tugs at his hair.
This is the kind of feeling Grian desired for, he wanted to dominate Scar and make Scar understood to whom he belonged.
The thrill and excitement of possessing him gives Grian a guilty pleasure.

Chapter 20: Part Two: Obsessive Bonds
Chapter Text
Their bodies were pressed against the couch again, breathing heavily between as their lips met. Grian could savor the bitterness of wine liquor shared between them. He couldn't resist pushing his tongue into his mouth and nibbling his lips, making Scar’s moan beneath him.
Grian pulls away from the kiss and gazes down at Scar. “God…you’re stunning.”
Scar looks up at Grian. “Grian…”
Grian leans in towards Scar's ear and whispers as he removes Scar's trousers down slowly. "I'll make you beg and ruin you until your legs go numb." “Make you mine and mine only…Scar—“
An interrupted call coming from Scar pocket.
"That has to be Gem” Scar stopped Grian from pulling off the trousers completely and pulled his phone from his pocket to look.
Grian looked at Scar's facial expression shifted a bit due to the phone call. “Is it your sister or mine?...”
"Nothing important, it’s Bdubs likely calling me to see if I want to spend time with him." Scar says after declining the call and quickly kisses Grian on the cheek. “I’ll call my sister to stay at Pearl’s place while you and I can have some time alone…”
Scar moves in closer and softly speaks in Grian's ear. “and make me beg for you.”
Grian felt his heart race as he stared at him, swallowing hard while picking up on how Scar phrased it, almost pleading for it.
He really dislikes Scar shifting his little attention to Bdubs phone call rather than concentrating on him. Grian was curious to know why Bdubs reached out to Scar late at night and perhaps called him to suggest spending time together.
It made Grian feel jealous again, similar to how he felt with Cub. He hated it.
“I would really enjoy that.” Grian grinned at Scar, gazing at his beautiful features.
Scar stands up from the sofa. “Feel free to go to my bedroom and wait for me while I tidy up and call Gem to tell her about that.”
Grian gave Scar with a nod and gets off the couch. “Okay, I’ll be waiting for you in your room, just don’t take too much time."
"I promise." Scar gathered a half empty wine bottle and the empty glasses, along with the phone, and made his way to the kitchen.
Grian quietly walked toward Scar's bedroom, staying close enough to eavesdrop.
Scar began to call Gem, putting the call on speaker while cleaning the kitchen a bit.
“Scar?” Gem answered.
“Hey Gem!”
“Hey Scar, is there something wrong? I’m still in the middle of dinner with Pearl and BigB” Gem says, getting concerned through the call.
“Uh yeah, everything is fine.” “I just wanted to ask you for a favor about staying with Pearl house for tonight since Grian is staying here, it’s getting late.” Scar responded.
“You and Grian alone?” “I wouldn’t mind staying with Pearl but call me if anything happens.” Gem laughs a bit.
“Yeah alone… and thanks” Scar feeling embarrassed. “I don’t want you to eavesdrop, Gem”
“Say hi to Grian for me and tell him to not do something stupid, talk to you tomorrow morning.” Gem said.
“I will talk to you tomorrow.” Scar gets flustered more, hanging up the call.
Grian remained quiet and slipped into Scar's bedroom quietly before Scar became aware of Grian listening in on him.
He began searching the drawers and closet, looking for any small item to take and hold onto before Scar entered.
Grian wanted an item from Scar to keep in his home, hoping to feel less alone.
It sparked an idea in Grian to secretly place a spy camera in Scar’s room to monitor him every 24 hours. For safety purposes.
While looking through Scar's belongings, Grian spotted a bunch of polaroid photos on the corkboard wall.
Scar enters and spots Grian. “Hmm, what are you searching for?”
Grian is taken aback by Scar. "Geez Scar!" “You startled me…and I was searching for something comfortable to wear.”
"I didn’t mean to and I can offer you my graphic tees and pajama pants, but I doubt they would fit you." Scar approaches Grian while speaking.
“I wasn’t aware that you and Bdubs had a close relationship…” Grian gazes at Scar, waiting for a response.
Scar sat on the bed, gazing at Grian walking toward him. “Bdubs and I were childhood best friends until I moved away.” "More like brothers"
Grian started to pin him down on the bed. “I don’t like it when you focus entirely on someone else instead of me…I want you for myself.”
“You can’t be saying those things…” Scar says.
"Why" Grian started to remove the leather jacket and shirt, then threw them onto the ground. "I'm crazy in love with you…so much that at times my heart craves for you each day whenever I see you."
Grian leans in to passionately kiss Scar while he unfastens his shirt and afterwards removes his trousers too. He pressed his lips against his collarbone as Grian's hand slipped into Scar's boxers, grabbing his cock and stroking it slowly.
“Ah~” Scar breath hitched, grunting.
“Where’s the lube, Scar” Grian removes Scar's boxer and continues caressing Scar's cock for a while.
“Next to my bed, the lowest drawer…” “Would you prefer to be in the top or bottom position?” Scar groaned from the motion on his cock while he questioned Grian.
Grian opened the lower drawer to fetch some lube and then sat beside Scar. “I would rather be in the dominant position than the submissive one because I want to witness your expression and listen to your moans, possessing you, and breaking you.” “If you allow me to…”
Seeing Scar yearn fills Grian with excitement, having desired this moment for some time. Grian has numerous ideas and imaginative thoughts about playing with Scar's body, like using sex toys, making Scar wear handcuffs, or adding more bruises on Scar to demonstrate that he has claimed him.
Scar's cheeks still flushed, lying down while watching Grian applying some lube to his hand. "You have permission...just be cautious not to harm me since I haven’t done this in quite a while." "Except me being intoxicated and not remembering much." Scar chuckled a little as he added.
“Yeah, being drunk…” Grian falls silent, feeling a small guilt once again, attempting to push it away from his thoughts.
“It’s going to be cold from the lube.” Grian moved closer to Scar, running his wet finger along Scar's rim for a moment before gradually inserting it inside. Slowly, Grian pulls his finger away before thrusting it back in once more. Scar breath hitched again.
“Are you alright?” Grian gazed at Scar.
“Y-yes, keep going,” Scar nodded, feeling a sense of desperation.
Grian adds a second finger after several thrusts, he starts scissoring and curls his fingers inward, moving deeply. Listening to Scar moan from every inch of his sensitive spot, the pleasure is so overwhelming that he can barely cope.
“You sound so pretty when you moan.” Grian places a kiss under Scar's jawline.
“I want you in me, G-Grian~” Scar groaned from the thrust and attempted to move his hips to align with Grian's fingers caressing him, but Grian put his other hand on Scar's waist to hold him still.
"Patience..." Grian murmured, pulling his fingers away and rising from the bed to take off his trousers and boxers, exposing himself. Grian applied a small amount of lube and spread it along his cock.
Grian adjusted himself between Scar's legs, placing his hands on Scar's waist to balance and align himself closely. Grian grasped his length and pushed the small tip firmly against Scar's entrance, feeling the moans as Grian slowly continue inches inside.
The pleasure caused Scar to moan, arch his back, and grip the bedsheets tightly. Scar muffled a little from the blend of pain since he hadn't experienced this for awhile. Scar began to grip Grian tightly, pulling him closer by placing his hands on Grian's shoulders.
“Please move, I can't take it.” Scar breathing heavily, pleading.
“Since you ask nicely and beg.” Grian withdrew, then slowly pushed his cock back in, repeating the motion rhythm several times. Grian moaned with every thrust, sensing Scar's insides gripping his cock tightly.
Hearing Scar pleading makes Grian craved for it even more. He wanted to satisfy Scar and offer even more pleasure, enjoying gazing at Scar face with each thrust. Scar's legs wrapped around Grian's waist, feeling each thrust within him, filling him up. He wanted every inch of him.
Grian panted as he quickened his pace, thrusting harder and deeper, creating slapping noises as their bodies connected. “I’m gonna cum, S-Scar.”
Scar moaning louder, trying to speak. “Grian…”
Grian intensely pushed harder, sensing his climax nearing quickly due to the buildup. He was unable to concentrate on anything other than satisfying Scar.
He could feel Scar's nails digging into his skin on the back. Grian gave one final thrust inside Scar, cumming and filling him completely. He bites on Scar neck, leaving another bruised hickey.
Scar moaned from the bite, gasping and sensing his inside full of Grian’s semen. Scar inhaled sharply, shuddered, and let out a cry of pleasure as he climaxed onto his stomach.
Grian collapses beside Scar and embraces him for warmth, pulling out his entire length, causing Scar to whimper in pain. “Would you like me to prepare the bath for you?”
Scar felt drained of energy to move, feeling his legs numb. He rested his head on Grian's chest and embraced him for comfort. “Hmm…let's handle it in the morning.” Scar says as he gently shuts his eyes.
“I can help you get clean and carry you, Scar.” “I don’t want you to feel uneasy in the morning.” Grian said, waiting for Scar's reply.
Grian listens as Scar snores softly, he chuckles quietly while grabbing a blanket and wrapping it around them, snuggling close to Scar.
"You belong to me now." Grian whispers into Scar's ear and then shuts his eyes, dozing off beside Scar.
Notes:
First time doing sexual chapter and it physically kills me of how hard it is. hope you guys enjoyed. 😭
Before you may think "Why Scar suddenly want to have sex" was a reason why I'm going for it was because Scar just wanted a plain hook up to get rid of feeling heartbroken from breakup and not wanting a serious relationship again to avoid another heartbreak(May or may not) meanwhile Grian thought it's more than that…so
i live for drama✨ and next chapter would be scar pov again.
Chapter 21: Impulsive Decision
Chapter Text
Scar POV
A loud noise from footsteps entering the bedroom startled Scar awake, sitting up to see Grian enter with a glass of water on hand. Scar had forgotten the situation that happened between them in their intimacy as the memories rushed back, causing warmth to spread across his face.
“Did my footsteps startle you, darling?” Grian speaks gently while giving him a glass of water and gently strokes Scar's cheek from his hand. “I brought you some water and medicine for pain since I thought you might need it.”
Scar kept staring at Grian, feeling a bit uncomfortable hearing the term 'darling' from his voice, as if it were bad enough to have slept with a friend without damaging their friendship.
It's a simple hookup, nothing else and better to avoid starting another new relationship.
Surely Grian would understand it, wouldn't he?… Scar pondered to himself. A part of him enjoyed the sex and developed more feelings for Grian, but why take the chance? He didn't want to end up facing the same issue and lose him, just as he did with Cub.
A man he previously devoted himself entirely to.
“Thank you, that’s very helpful.” Scar chuckled a bit and drank water from the glass then swallowed a pill. “Funny thing is that I actually do need medicine for a bad headache.”
“Good thing.” Grian smiled.
Scar remained silent as Grian's hand brushed against his cheek and slid down to his neck, causing Scar to swallow the last sip of water.
He whined in discomfort from the fresh bruises on his neck as Grian kept stroking down.
"I apologize for causing you pain and didn’t check if you were alright with it." Grian continued to gaze at the bite marks shown on Scar's neck.
“It’s fine Grian, we were just caught up in a moment.” Scar gives a glass cup to Grian. “Also… I wanted to discuss what happened between us and—“
"Before you speak, I've prepared you a warm bath for your cleansing, and I'm going to make you some breakfast." Grian cut Scar off.
"You didn't need to do that." Scar said
“I wanted to.” Grian softly kissed Scar on the cheek and made his way to the door before leaving. “You can tell me later once you’ve finished.”
Before Scar had the chance to speak, he noticed Grian exit through the bedroom door.
Scar let out a sigh and got up from the bed, feeling his legs tremble slightly. "I suppose I should take a bath before seeing Grian at the dinner table."
Scar took some time to shower and change into fresh clothes. He exited the bathroom and made his way to the dining table, noticing breakfast laid out and Grian awaiting him. “You were waiting for me?”
"Y-yeah, I didn’t want to dine by myself, and how’s the shower?" Grian grinned at Scar.
“It was…nice, but you can also take a shower too, and I can lend you my clothes to wear.” Scar took a seat across from Grian.
Scar couldn't ignore how adorable Grian was around him, with his thoughtful gestures and efforts to make Scar feel valued. The thought of possibly pursuing a romantic relationship with Grian opened Scar’s eyes to the possibilities.
it felt perfect ...almost too perfect, and Scar is scared of it.
Scared of feeling the ideal love story, only to have it go wrong due to his mistakes.
"Is something bothering you?" Grian feels worried while sipping his orange juice.
Scar pulled himself back to reality. “Nothing, I was just thinking, that’s all…and I appreciate the breakfast, Grian.” Took the utensil to slice the pancake and began to eat.
The room was silent around them, with no conversation or anything apart from having breakfast. Scar was uncomfortable with the silence; it seemed awkward, and he feared that the intimacy last night might make things strange, words couldn’t describe that feeling.
The silence broke as Grian began to speak. “Did I do something wrong?...”
“Pardon?” Scar replied.
"Scar, you've been behaving strangely around me." "I want to understand if my actions caused you to feel or behave a particular way." Grian looked at Scar.
Scar chewed on the insides of his cheeks, uncertain about how to answer the question. He opened his mouth to speak but failed to form words, Scar wondered whether to lie Grian or to be honest, saying that their intimate from last night was just a casual hookup and wanted to pursue a stronger friendship rather than rushing into a relationship.
“You didn’t do anything wrong.” “It’s me who is in the wrong.” Scar said, noticing Grian's expression turned even more confused due to the lack of response and concern.
"What happened between us last night was enjoyable for me, but I'm not currently in a place to commit to a relationship." “I feel a bit regretful because I don’t want to damage our friendship and lose a wonderful friend like you who has always supported me.” Scar said while he nibbled his lower lip. Part of it is true, but another part he doesn’t want to commit to for the moment because he’s currently single.
"Scar, I don't understand why you are avoiding me from this." "I don't care if it's going to damage our friendship because I want you!" Grian's eyes are fixated on Scar. "Do you regret every single part that we shared together? Do you regret it?"
“We were in a moment–” Scar is surprised when Grian grips his arm tightly, pulling him nearer and kissing him. The kiss was brutal, harsh and filled with despair, he was unable to resist kissing Grian back, even though it was forceful and painful. For a brief moment, Scar pushed Grian aside to catch his breath until he felt Grian's other hand tugging at his hair as Grian pressed the lips against his neck. "Grian…not at this moment, what if Gem arrives or someone else is at the door?.." Scar felt the strong pull on his hair from Grian's grip, along with his arm.
“I'll stop until you accept and choose to be with me, remaining by my side.” "I don’t want anyone else to be close to you, kiss you, touch you, or love you except for me… I want you for myself, and if you can't see it then, I’ll make sure you do." Grian expressed it in a possessive tone. “I can take better care of you than anyone else if you allow me the opportunity, Scar.”
“Grian, you’re hurting me a bit…” Scar face appeared flustered as he replied.
Grian listened as he relaxed his grip on his hands. "Please don’t turn me away and give me the chance by joining me on our date." “Don’t you trust me? Why are you questioning us?...”
“I do…I'm just not ready yet–”
“I guess you don’t love me enough if you don’t give me a chance.” Grian says.
Scar feels guilty from the last sentence, sort of an ultimatum decision. He may not be ready, but is open to the idea, after all, it wouldn't be harmful to give it a go, and beside Grian is a kind gentleman who offers everything on a silver platter, including love, care, support, and attention. He surrenders.
“Okay…I’ll give you a chance.” Scar rests his free hand on Grian's cheek as he gazes at him.
Grian released Scar and kissed him once more.
A different kiss from the previous one, it was soft, tender, and soothing rather than force and aggressive. Scar kissed Grian in return, embracing the tender sensation and unexpectedly feeling a bit emotional, though he can't quite figure out why.
They part ways from the gentle kiss.
"I'm going to slice raspberries for your breakfast." Grian stands up from his chair and lightly kisses Scar on the head before moving to the kitchen.
“Thanks.” Scar sees Grian heading off and notices his arm is slightly bruised from a tight grip, though not much is shown. He wasn't aware of Grian's aggressive side, but perhaps he didn't intend to cause him harm like that.
He wouldn’t because it’s an accident, as Scar thought.
It didn’t take long for Grian to shower and leave the apartment, exchanging goodbyes for now as their date is tonight and Grian will be picking him up on his motorcycle.
Scar relaxes on the couch and dials Bdubs on the phone, waiting for a response.
The phone call was answered. “Hey Scar!” “I was calling you last night and sent you a bunch of messages because you weren’t responding about hanging out together with Etho and Cleo.” Bdubs said.
"I was busy with a visitor who came and stayed since it was quite late." Scar used the remote to turn on the television.
“a visitor?" “Please don’t tell me you’re hooking up with someone random that you met while Gem is with Pearl and BigB.” Bdubs sighed. “I’m concerned that you might act impulsively, Scar.”
“I won’t be hooking up with anyone unfamiliar.” "The visitor turned out to be Grian and…” Scar pauses, considering how to reply.
“And..?”
"There was a chemistry that happened between us, which led to more, and I agreed to go out on the date with Grian tonight." Scar blurted out suddenly.
"Don’t you have a thing for Pearl?" Bdubs replied back.
"Pearl is my friend and I don't want to harm our friendship, she's a kind person who deserves someone better than I am." Scar sat up from the couch. “Do I need to call off the date?”
"I believe you shouldn't call off your date, since it doesn't mean it's official, and you just want to learn more about Grian before deciding on a relationship." "Well I heard somebody say that Pearl might have an interest in you, maybe you should consider asking her out too, give it a shot as well–” Bdubs is interrupted by Etho grabbing his phone.
"Or stay single and take some time for yourself, Scar." Etho mentioned during the phone call. "There's no need to stress yourself out that much."
"Etho, return my phone back you jerk!" Bdubs shouted in the background.
“I’ll consider it…” Scar replied, feeling unsatisfied.
"Stay positive, Scar." "Are you coming with me, Bdubs, and Cleo to play tennis at the park today?" Etho asked just before Bdubs took his phone back.
“Scar has a date this evening, planning his outfit and presenting himself as the handsome man he is.” Bdubs spoke during the conversation.
“No, I can come and I have time since the date is tonight.” Scar gets up and heads over to the bedroom. “I can get ready and head over there.”
“Okay we’ll see you there, Scar.” Etho replied.
“Catch you later Scar.” Bdubs responded too.
"See you." Scar ends the call and goes through the closet to find clothes that are less revealing, so the hickey bruises on his neck aren't visible.
“It’s going to be a long day.”
At night, Scar waits outside in the apartment parking lot for Grian to arrive on his motorcycle. He wore a fitting brown casual button up shirt, dark denim jeans, and canvas shoes, nothing overly fancy but casual for a date.
He saw a car approaching, coming by to a stop beside him, and rolled down the window, showing Grian. “Grian? I thought you're going to pick me up from your motorcycle.”
“I considered it, but I didn't want our first date to be me taking you on my motorcycle, so I asked to borrow Joel's car.” Grian smiled at Scar, exited the vehicle, and walked to the front passenger side to open the door for Scar. "Hop in.”
Scar made his way inside, settling down as he saw Grian shutting the door behind him. "You didn't have to act like a gentleman, Grian."
Grian circles the vehicle and enters, fastening the seatbelt as he closes the door. “you deserve special treatment.”
Scar gave a slight smile to Grian and fastened his seatbelt. “Where are you going to take me for our first date?”
“I reserved a private dinner for us to enjoy, and I have something for you over there.” Grian said while he began to drive, making his way to the destination.“How is the tennis going with your friends?”
“Excuse me?...” Scar falls silent, taken aback.
How is Grian aware of tennis with his friends? Scar wondered to himself. "you know I was playing tennis?"
"I was looking for you in the afternoon to see if you wanted to have coffee with me, but you weren't around, so I asked Etho and he told me." Grian responds to Scar's question.
“Oh, for a moment I believed you were sort of stalking me or something.” Scar laughs while making jokes about it.
Grian chuckled alongside Scar. "Why would I?" "Has anyone ever stalked you to consider it in the first place?"
“No, I certainly hope not, as it feels quite creepy and scary if someone were to stalk me.” Scar responded and gazed out of the car window.
“Agree, but what if it’s a person who is closest to you, like friends in general?” Grian gazes at Scar for a moment before glancing at the road path.
Scar reflects on the question for a moment. “If it's my sister, she likely does it with my safety in mind, but in general, as friends... it’s difficult to say, depending on the situation, yet it’s still seen as wrong despite violating privacy on me or someone else.”
Grian stopped the car, turned off the engine with the key, unfastened his seatbelt, and opened the door to get out. "We have arrived at the restaurant."
Scar unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door to leave. He notices a restaurant he has never encountered before. It appeared luxurious and elegant,
which caught Scar off guard, as he had expected the date to be quite casual.
Grian took hold of Scar's arm and began leading him inside. A waiter was waiting and ready to escort them to a private room for a dinner date as they entered together.
“I didn’t see this coming.” “I assumed we were heading to a typical restaurant, but this…this seems too pricey, Grian.” Scar said as they entered the private room and noticed the table arranged romantically with candles lit up on the center and red rose petals scattered across it. Why does it seem more like a proposal than a date?
He found it difficult to manage everything happening, it was too much and overly romantic for a first date. Scar doesn’t know how he feels about this, unsure if it’s cute or a warning to him as another red flag.
“I want our first date to be romantic and perfect.” Grian moved the chair out for Scar to take a seat.
"It doesn't need to be a specific place; I’m happy wherever we are as long as we have fun together." Scar took a seat.
Grian took a seat from across as the waiter gave them a menu to look through.
Scar takes the menu to browse, noticing the food prices are reasonable rather than high, which brings a sigh of relief to him. He preferred the date to end if the costs were expensive, as he's not used to someone paying for him or doing anything beyond a romantic gesture.
"Feel free to order whatever you want, Scar." "The cost doesn't matter." Grian continues to gaze at the menu choice.
“I'll request spaghetti and a glass of water.” Scar asked the waiter to take orders. The price of the spaghetti is more affordable than the rest; he doesn’t want to take advantage of Grian and his generosity.
"Are you sure you don't want to order any wine or something else?" Grian gazes at Scar.
“A bottle of wine is somewhat pricey, and I'm happy with a glass of water–”
“I'll order the same spaghetti and the best bottle of wine for us both.” Grian asked the waiter.
The server nodded and departed, leaving Scar and Grian by themselves.
“Grian, I’m not comfortable with you spending so much for this first date, you worked at a bookstore for my sister.” Scar gazes at Grian.
"That's alright, Scar." “I do software developer work from home and do part-time work for Gem as needed.” Grian smiled. “You're really going to dislike me for what I'm about to do.”
Scar gets confused by the final statement. “Dislike you?”
Grian quickly pulled out an adorable cat plushie and handed it to Scar.
“Oh my god!” Scar grabbed the cat plush toy. “Grian, it’s really adorable!”
"I'm happy to hear you like it so much." Grian lets out a quiet laugh.
“I…truly love it, but again, you didn’t need to.” Scar grinned wider than he had ever before.
Scar noticed the server delivering the food they had ordered along with a bottle of wine to enjoy together. Strangely, he began to enjoy the date with Grian, especially after receiving a cat plushie that he already cherished.
Once they've completed their dinner and exchanged conversations, they exit the restaurant. Scar really enjoyed his first date with Grian, as he hadn't experienced a genuine date since he began dating Cub.
Perhaps Scar can finally let go of Cub and their past relationship, Cub is likely happy with someone else, and it’s time for Scar to find happiness with someone too.
“Stay here, I’m going to get the car and come get you.” Grian pressed his lips to Scar's hand and then turned to leave.
“Alright, I’ll stay here.” Scar took a seat on the bench outside, gazing at the cat plushie he was holding.
For the first time, he feels peaceful in his mind.
While Scar waits, his gaze drifts and catches sight of a missing person poster on a light pole. He got up to go check who the missing person was.
Scar dropped the plushie to the ground while he covered his mouth in shock and distraught, realizing that the missing person was Cub.
He couldn’t think clearly from seeing the missing person flyer, he felt as though his world had shattered, filled with questions about how and why Cub was gone and for how long. Scar struggled to breathe as his chest felt heavy, feeling dizziness, nausea, and decreased blood pressure.
Scar's vision faded to darkness as he fell to the ground.
