Chapter Text
They thought it was some kind of sick joke at first.
They’d retreated back to their cabin soon after being transported back from a round. No way the thing keeping them here had decided to play with their lover’s memory like that. Forcing them to go through a round in The Spawn’s temple with their lover screaming about how he hated them and ready to impale their chest just like—they impaled him..
The strike of remorsefulness every time they thought of him was too much. Of course, they’d gained the respawn, but the cost of it almost didn't seem worth it. Almost.
Despite the lessened guilt, they’ll never forget that look he gave as blood grew in a puddle underneath him. How the world grew much more void and lacked direction. Two Time was left without anymore support.
“What have you done?”
Azure would never love them again. Not after that big mistake. Two Time couldn't blame him for thinking this way. They’d come to the conclusion that Azure despised them long ago. This sick mind game the Spectre was pulling on them only confirmed it.
You never realize all the little things people do until they're missing from your life. How there was no one around when they self-isolated, thinking they wanted to be alone when it was the opposite. How no one was there to look after his well being. Spawn, they missed him so much. He was so close, yet so far away from them.
They’d probably already ruined Azure’s life, or the life afterlife that was supposed to be away from them. Did they even have the right to try to connect with him again? If they even could with their circumstances.
“Two Time?” Someone had knocked on the door to their cabin. They’re snapped out of their thoughts and away from the wall they’ve been staring at for however long. They stand up off of their bed and to the door.
Candles and hand-crafted Spawn ceremonial items are littered around their small room. The candles never seemed to run out and Two Time figured out they didn't need to worry about the fire hazard that was candles in their wood cabin.
When they opened the door they were met with 007n7 and this sheepish grin he had. “Sorry. It’s just.. You knew that killer right? He was screaming about you and you looked pretty off. Well.. more so than you usually do, heh—” He cleared his throat and stood up straighter, “Just wanted to let you know that all of us are here for you and you’re not alone in this, yeah?”
Slightly funny how out of all people it was 007n7 talking to them about this. Maybe he was reminiscent of his son. “I’m fine, I thank you though. The Spawn would admire your kindness.”
007n7 offered him a nod. Two Time was unsure he even believed them but it's no matter before they closed the door in his face. The interruption from their thoughts was nice though. Even if the topic was about him.
They staggered back to the bed, falling over and planted their face on the pillow. Turning over, they stared at the ceiling. Two Time didn't know if they could handle hearing Azure say he hated them again. They stared off until their eyelids drifted down. Sleep hesitantly welcoming them.
Not even prayer distracted them right now. Wasn't this what the elders trained them for? The strength to respawn without anything weighing them down? Did they even deserve their second life if they felt like this? They thought they’d repressed this feeling too long ago. They almost regretted seeing Azure again.
Azure had screamed out he’d never want anything to do with them again, not after what they did.
Spawn did that hurt.
He’d never look at them with that loving look again. Only a scowl remained. But, if Azure would be happy without them that was fine.
Would he love someone else though?
What?
Maybe, just maybe, he’d love someone else?
No, they didn't want to think of that outcome. Their heart wouldn't be able to take it. Whatever this voice was in his head was trying to spur on their negative thoughts even more was just torturing them. This was what was keeping them here wasn't it?
Allow me to clarify…
Was that… not what it meant?
I’ll allow you an opportunity to be with your precious lover again. As a new identity.
That.. was an interesting idea. Two Time couldn't believe they were actually considering it. Azure would never love them but if they became someone else with no ties to Two Time then.. they could be with him again. At least for a little while.
So, do we have a deal?
A deal? That would imply the entity got some mutual benefits out of this. A chuckle sounded in their head.
You're not entirely a fool, I’ll give you that. In exchange you'd be a killer. Everything comes with a price after all. It's the only way you’d even get close to that botanist.
It's not like they were worried that the others would miss them. Whether they would at all, it was the least of their worries. If the others noticed they were missing and Azure found out it’d piss him off more.
I suppose you somewhat have a point there.
The voice pauses in thought for a moment.
How about this, you switch between often? Do not worry about the other survivors noticing you're not in rounds when you're the killer.
If that’s the case, they took a deep inhale and took one last moment to collect themself.
Do we have a deal?
“Yes.” They whispered out carefully like someone would overhear the conversation in their mind. An overwhelming sense of dizziness shrouded them. It was a cold, maybe wet feeling? Darkness consumed their vision yet no panic arose, only emptiness and sorrow seeped into their mind.
Being transferred to a new place wasn't an odd thing in this place. The weirdness was just not feeling that tug on their heart warning them of being selected to participate in the round. Everything looked brighter and the sound of the crickets in the endless night weren't heard anymore. In fact, it was day and the sun was shining outside. The layout of the cabin looked pretty much the same except it looked comfortable like a house you’d stay out in the summer while on vacation. There were even live plants as decoration that looked well taken care of and the occasional toy lying around on the floor.
Two Time looked down toward their hands and clothes. Their fingerless gloves still sat comfortably on their hands yet their hands were covered in speckles of different coloured grays. The skin didn't squish and compress anymore, practically solid, hard and cold to the touch. Stone. Carrying themself up and straightening their back they also felt- heavy? Stiff? Their clothes had been replaced by a black cloth draping over their chest and legs with bandages being replaced by the same material as well. A thin blindfold rested right atop their eyes. The space between the interlacement of the fabric and the thinness of it allowed them to have a decent view through it.
“Great..” An echo growly voice groaned, snapping Two Time out of their inspection, “Another one.” That was— 1x! Oh Spawn, 1x might just kill them right now and they have no blood oblation to offer to The Spawn for their second life. Hand gravitating down to their waist with muscle memory before they clenched their fingers around nothing.
Where was their dagger?
Instead the same hard material brushed against the back of their hand. Their wings! Yet in a different shape. Less bone-like and more similar to a bird’s. At least in shape. They were still stiff.
“Leave them alone. They're clearly freaking out.” Mafioso? Two killers? No, that can't be. Unless.. This was where the killers went after their rounds? That means the voice was real! Oh Spawn, where's Azure? Do they really look different? Would Azure recognize them? They’re not even completely sure what they look like.
A slightly grotesque killer with black and purple colour schemes and a half skull and tragedy mask shaped head popped up in the upstairs balcony. “OoOhh W-wheN diD we Get a sC-Sc-sculPturE heRe!?” They had a unique voice, leaning towards the weirder unique. It sounded almost like a bunch of voices bundled together changing pitch, tone and how fast they spoke with an effect almost like audio glitching on a TV.
“It’s not a decoration, Noli.” 1x corrected him, “It's obviously a new killer.” Sculpture? Decoration? Were they some kind of stone statue? If that was the case a stone statue with wings.. What was the name of that one fictional creature? Those stone creatures that moved when not observed. They couldn't put a name on it.. Weeping Angels?
Though, Two Time did not appreciate being called an it. They're still slightly nervous about being recognized but if 1x and Mafioso didn't then maybe they were alright?
“Hey. You, Newbie,” 1x used an irritated tone addressing them, “What's your name? Hello? Please don't tell me you're mute.. Jason’s hard to talk to as it is!” A group of people peaked out just like Noli did to hear the conversation. Oh Spawn. They hadn't thought of probably one of the most important things, their name. Quick! Think fast Two Time— Angel? Cassiel? Azreal? Something close to how Two Time was close to the Spawn—
“Seraph.” They slipped out. A high ranking angel with unwavering devotion. The Spawn would be proud of the name dedicated to him.
Mafioso tipped his hat in a courtesy face still shrouded by a deep shadow, “Seraph.. Welcome to the Spectre then.”

Yes, I just stole the Weeping Angel Two Time design. No, I will not be original thank you for your time
Chapter 2: back to friends - sombr
Chapter Text
“What is this place exactly? Why am I here? What's going on?” All questions Two Time knew the answer to but Seraph didn’t. They were already devising Seraph’s personality in their head. Oh! Maybe even a backstory? No, too ahead of themself, they’d come up with it on the way. But at the time, Seraph was a calm, collected, think before they act person. That's the vibe they aimed to go for.
“This area,” 1x began, explaining as they extended his hand out to gesture around the cabin, “Is where we, the killers, go between our rounds. The rounds are when one of us is picked to go out and kill the survivors. You,” He raised a daemonshank to their chest, almost poking them with it like it was an extension of his finger, “And everyone else here causes suffering for The Spectre.”
So all the killers torture them just to feed the thing keeping all of them here? The Spectre?
“Why me specifically? What’s in it for us?” Two Time glaced around them. More and more killers, some they haven't even seen before, entered the main area.
Mafioso grinned, “Hah! We’re unsure why we're here ourselves. We have no right to judge whatever reason you're here. All though, The Spectre does reward us quite well. That is, if you do successfully kill the survivors.” Some of the killers spectating the conversation shivered at that statement.
They’d never thought of it like that. That the killers would actually be treated better in this purgatory. Like how this cabin was so much nicer than theirs.
“This can be a conversation for another time,” 1x interjected in an aggravated tone. “C00lkidd,” The ten year old peaked up at his name being called, “Get everyone else here. It's time for… introductions..” He spat the last word out like it was the toxin on his daemonshanks.
C00lkidd did a little salute and affirmed before he happily ran off giggling to gather the rest of the killers, or “taggers” in the child’s mind. What followed were a mix of different reactions from the rest of the people not there previously as they filtered into the main area. The last place c00lkidd had visited was the outside, which apparently had a garden, before going back and counting his fingers to make sure no one was missed.
1x had taken charge in introducing everyone. He clearly showed distaste but “someone had to do it” was his reasoning.
Most of the introductions were out of the way and they'd caught the names of some of the killers they hadn't known previously. Most of them had already left to do their own things.
“There's still one person you haven't met. He’ll be here in a bit, probably tending the plants or something,” Two Time knew 1x was referring to Azure. The person they’d been anticipating for ever since everyone had come here, “In the meanwhile I’ll get John to tour you around later.”
A creak resonated from the floorboards of the outside patio. A figure stepped into view. There he was. In the door frame leading outside the cabin was him. Azure.
Spawn, he was looking directly at them. Azure was here. Azure was looking at them. Looking at them not with anger or hatred but curiosity and maybe even pity. Oh Spawn, they had to hold themselves back from all of these impulses. To refrain from running to Azure as they muttered apologies for their terrible mistake.
“Ah, finally. This is the new killer, Seraph,” 1x introduced gesturing to them.
Azure stepped forward giving them a small wave, “Nice to meet you, Seraph. I’m Azure.” His voice was slightly more rough, presumably due to his transformation. Nonetheless, Two Time knew this was the same Azure they knew. They knew that he hadn't changed even after their big mistake. Sure, they'd probably never had a moment as just “Two Time and Azure” again but perhaps Seraph had a chance.
“Charmed.” They gave a quick nod and slight smile to the other, keeping up the calm persona.
“Right, now that that's out the way. Azure?” 1x interrupted them. Azure’s attention was shifted towards him, “Do you mind showing Seraph to their cabin? I was going to get Doe to do it but since you're tending outside anyways it would be convenient.”
Azure affirmed it would be no problem before 1x left, something about him having enough of socializing so early in the day. There were still some people here, like Jason and the kids. Jason, standing menacingly in the corner, was supervising the kids they assumed. C00lkidd was watching bluudud play some game on a device while pr3typriincess was having some kind of tea party at the coffee table.
Other than those people it was just the both of them. “Right,” Azure turned around waving a tendril in a beckoning motion gesturing them to follow, “This is a great excuse to show you my garden.”
As they stepped outside Two Time was met with a stone covered pathway leading up to a numerous number of cabins as well as a beautifully organized garden of various different types of flowers. The entire area looked fancy, like it belonged in the front of a prestigious family's mansion.
“How do you manage to maintain all this?” They curiously asked. Sure, they’d known Azure to have an interest in plant life. He’d even given them a bundle of flowers every so often. While they’d never learn the actual meaning of receiving a bouquet of heliotrope, baby’s breath and honeysuckle they understood the general message quite well. Nonetheless, he'd never grown a garden of this size before.
Azure’s tendrils wave into view in front of them, “These make it a tiny bit easier, you know that one phrase, ‘many hands make light work’? Or I suppose tentacles in this case,” He laughs at his own joke. Two Time’s starting to think that Azure hasn't even changed, at least personality wise. He just had a new look and is now equipped with a resting bitch face. “The others help out sometimes though. Mostly Jason, his skill with his machete and chainsaw are surprisingly perfect for shaping the shrubbery.”
Two Time stopped at a patch of tulips that caught their attention. While every other patch is separated by the type of flower with no regard for colour, this patch of tulips are only coloured in cream, white and red. “These are beautiful,” knowing Azure the specific colour of these probably had some sappy meaning behind them.
“Yes, it is quite beautiful isn't it? This is my favourite patch out of this garden. Tulips are a relatively easy plant to care for, plus, they're pretty.” The other’s face had grown into a reminiscent look as they stared off into the patch, “I have someone I’d like to show these to one day.”
Certainly not them. Not after that round. Not after he made his hate for them explicitly clear.
“Are tulips your favourite flowers?” They asked, even though they’d already known the answer to it. No, it wasn't. Nightshades were Azure’s favourite. Seraph wouldn't know that though.
“Oh, no. Tulips require low maintenance and are resilient plants but they certainly aren't my favourite. My favourites are nightshades, though I don't tend to grow any since they're considered weeds,” Azure gazed in the distance seemingly distracted and in a different moment, “Used to have a field of them close by before I came here. Before..”
…They knew exactly what he was referring to. They just hummed along not wanting to think about it either.
He snapped out of his trance-like state, his tentacles snapped up straight like a cat’s tail when startled. “Nevermind that,” Azure laughed it off before gesturing Two Time to follow as both of them walked down the stone path again. Both stopped in front of a small wooden cabin not unlike the one Two Time had in the survivor area, “This will be your cabin. You’re free to go inside.”
The gardener follows as Two Time opens the door only to be met with…
Absolutely nothing.
Nothing but a black, null endless void.
“What.. What is this?” They apprehensively asked. Unable to see an end to the darkness but reaching out and stepping into the space they were assured it wasn't just a black, blocked off wall. Had the Spectre just not made this area yet or something?
Azure was right behind them but wouldn't step past the door frame. Instead, they explained, “The Spectre designed the cabins to be areas containing our own limbo. Showing our own personal deepest desires. We’re unable to see what each other's look like though.”
If that was the case, then why was nothing here? Two Time would obviously see the Spawn and everything they would need as a highly devoted follower of the cult, right? Why wasn't any of it here? There wasn't even a bed or bathroom. It looked like Two Time would have to rest at his lodge in the survivor area.
..Was there truly nothing Two Time desired? Nothing they deserved? Was the Spectre just playing with them?
Two Time turned to look at the other. Azure’s eyes furrowed, not in anger but concern. Spawn, becoming a killer was so worth it if it meant they saw that look directed at them again.
“You're upset,” Azure started, “I understand it can be overwhelming. You okay?” He shifted his posture to a more relaxed one. Body relaxed but face still showing sympathy as he offers Two Time comfort.
“...It’s nothing,” They assured, a bit too impulsively as they tried to brush it off.
Azure gently smiled, eyes still dipped in concern, “Well, it's alright if you're not comfortable with telling me what's wrong,” He saw right through their lie, “Let’s go back to the main cabin, yeah? A round is about to start soon and the others like to watch the TV to spectate.”
He raised his hand towards the door frame reaching out instinctively in comfort. His hand stopped suddenly midway just as it reached a little bit past the frame. Azure's eyes fluttered rapidly, confused and staring at his hand as he extended it all the way out and shook it.
“What are you doing?” Two Time watched as Azure poked and prodded his limbs around the door before he hesitantly stepped inside. He stared at the view outside before he turned his attention to Two Time.
“We aren't able to enter each other’s limbos,” His eyes squinted clearly thinking about possible explanations before shaking the thought off, “I’ll mention this to 1x1 later. It's odd for sure.. Anyways, let's get back to the main cabin.” Azure tilted his head toward the exit as a gesture to follow him.
If the other killers weren't able to enter each other's spaces why was Azure allowed in theirs? Was it only Azure or could the other killers go in?
Maybe it was related to the limbos giving them things they deeply desired..
Both of them walked through the garden again. Two Time noticed the other was more tense than before, clearly still thinking. Azure turned his head towards them checking if they were still behind him.
“Don't stress too much about being picked for the round today. A lot of us here have been here for months and haven't been picked at all.” Azure chuckled before he continued, “Infact, I was here for almost 3 months before.. I had my first round yesterday...”
He trailed off at the end of his sentence as he looked off in the distance like his mind thought of something else. Clearing his throat to clear up the conversation Azure was silent for the walk. Two Time assumed it was because of them. That he felt disgust seeing them in person, his killer, for the first time in a round.
One of Azure's tendrils opened the door for both of them. Two Time saw all of the killers they met previously crowded in the living room of the main cabin. All of them were sitting near or around the TV having conversation as they waited for the round to start.
“Seraph! Azure!” C00lkid noticed them come in and cheered as he dropped a large plastic toy gun in his hands. The child clearly was pelting foam darts at an annoyed looking bluudud who was finicking with some first person shooter game on his device trying to ignore the other child. “Do you think I’ll be picked to tag this round? Oh! Seraph! This might be your first chance to see how good I am at tagging!”
Bluudud and pr3typriincess’ voices synced as they simultaneously told c00lkidd to shut up.
“I get you want to show off to the new person, but let's not overwhelm them, okay?” John Doe walked up behind c00lkidd placing his less corrupted hand on the child’s shoulder. C00lkid hummed out in an okay before running along to the other kids bragging about how he was going to be picked and get all the players.
“All of you shut up, it's starting,” 1x interrupted. Everyone's attention turned towards the TV. Yet another perk the killers had in their main area. The TV actually functioned.
Text was displayed on the flat screen device.
This Round’s Killer is
A name they didn't expect popped up in bright red.
Seraph
Everyone’s head darted toward them.
“What?” 1x did a double take alternating between looking at them and the text on the TV, “Seraph just got here! The Spectre can't be serious—”
The message faded out revealing the map to be the same Spawn temple from yesterday. Azure's tentacles cloud their vision, so close to wrapping around them like it would stop them from being teleported.
They felt the light touch of a few tendrils before they blinked and found themselves standing at the head of the Spawn altar. A sense of bloodlust filled their senses.
Notes:
I wonder why a place that gives you the things you most desire appears and there's nothing
Is it because you're too humble or maybe.. It's because you've been stripped of so much there's nothing to want..?
Cults do heavy damage, and easily manipulate the people in them because they used to be in bad situations
Think about that for a moment

Chapter Text
20 minutes.
The timer started ticking down as the Spectre let their mind unconsciously know just how much time remained.
Oh Spawn, they couldn't do this. They didn't even know what to do. The Spectre couldn't possibly make them do this, at least, not so soon.
At least their dagger was more comfortable. After it was graciously given to them by The Spectre they were able to appease The Spawn and earn their second life through blood oblation. The dagger was almost like an extension of their arm. It gave a sense of familiarity as the muscle memory allowed stab after stab. They’d even started to get creative by going backwards mid chase to land their backstabs.
The murder wasn't a problem. Two Time knew that they'd become desensitised to that long before they even joined The Spawn. Their hands twitched as they were unable to grip the handle of a blade that wasn't there.
Move it, Two Time.
Pain erupted through their legs forcing them to put one leg in front of the other.
If you fail this round you won't be allowed to see Azure outside of rounds for a week.
…
They couldn't give this up. Not yet. Dear Spawn, give them the strength to overcome this challenge. They had to do this. Another thing they’d do for the sake of Azure. Would the elders be disappointed? It’s unsure.
Outside of the temple were a variety of wooden buildings. It looked almost as they remembered. If you paid attention to the unique individuality of the houses you could spot out the one they shared with Azure. The one with the now wilted and dry flowers. Two Time never really had a green thumb and didn't take care of them after..
There had to be one survivor missing excluding them, but perhaps that wasn't the case? They weren't exactly sure what the Spectre meant by “making sure the survivors didn't notice they were missing” just yet but their absence might be a problem in the future.
An odd thing was how fast they were. Maybe slightly faster than Jason? They were able to get around the abandoned sanctuary at a decent speed-walking pace. Down the stone pathway, at the middle of the sanctuary which acted as a sort of meeting place and shrine, they spotted Chance, Elliot and Shedletsky. They grew to a sprint. The strategy was simple yet effective, thought up by none other than Guest, of course. Sentinels would distract the killer while Elliot stood by for quick healing. Though with the discovered maximum of eight of them per round a set area that would change often for Builderman’s dispenser was told to each of them. Just in case Elliot needed it or he wasn't there. Things got a little bit more difficult if both Elliot and Builderman were missing but they managed just fine being a little bit more careful.
When they received their dagger they changed from being just some back-up body blocker survivalist throwing themselves straight at the killer and happily laughing taking hits. Now, body blocking wasn't necessary. After they gained the ability to stun and disarm they enjoyed stabbing right into the killer’s back, twisting the knife almost like a key. An ability focusing on backstabbing was much too fitting and almost cruel considering their past.
An odd thing they noticed was they didn't start getting tired until they got closer to the group. It was odd but definitely the Spectre's doing, probably the reason why the killers were able to reach them without getting tired from across the map.
Within just a little bit of the strain in their stamina they noticed their speed was reduced greatly. Slowed down to a pace greatly slower than even 1x1’s sprinting speed. Figures that they’d have abilities similar to a weeping angel’s. This speed might be an issue.
Chance had paused to stare for a moment as he noticed them running up to them, “Watch out!” He raised his gun and fired straight at their chest. Elliot and Shedletsky’s attention shifted as they turned to face them.
The bullet chipped their stone skin creating a dull pain that leaned toward a pressure rather than actual pain. They were still staggered with the force or the shot as well as a feeling, almost like they were physically unable to move no matter how much they forced themself to.
“Great shot, Chance!” Shedletsky cheered, drawing his sword as he charged toward them. Two Time knew this strategy, either Shedletsky or Guest distract with Chance as a backup if things get tricky. They weren't exactly sure if they could land a hit on as good a sword fighter as Shedletsky but this could be an opportunity to figure out how their abilities work.
Feeling grew back in their body as Shedletsky stopped in front of them. He flourished his sword around trying to gain attention. The air around them turned cool, almost like a shield around them as the Spectre granted them stun protection before fading out.
“We’re really just going to ignore how this is a new killer? And so soon? Be careful! We don't know what they can do!” Elliot yelled out, face tense and worried.
Shedletsky let out a hearty laugh, “Don't worry about it, Elliot. I have a feeling we'll be fine!” He spoke as if the person they referred to wasn't right in front of them. It agitated them, The Spawn wouldn't stand such disrespect. Seraph’s arms clawed out towards the fighter. He happily evaded each of their attacks as he let out a chuckle. Shedletsky was teasing them.
5/5 Generators completed.
Already? A short tone played throughout the air. A common sign that the Survivors associated with completed objectives.
“All right!” Chance called out as the Spectre’s announcement was spoken in all their heads, “Everyone's doing great work, let's hold out until the end of the round, yeah?” The distant clinging sound of Chance flipping his coin rang out.
11 minutes.
This was embarrassing. They can't land a blow on Shedletsky! His ego was obviously growing and Shedletsky hadn't even summoned his sword to slash yet. Spawn! Just— STAY STILL!
A white tint envelopes their vision. Shedletsky’s movement slowed down, like the space around him had the resistance of water when you tried running in it. Their movement had sped up which caused the air to swoosh. The tips of their fingers snagged on Shedletsky’s arm causing him to jump up. No marks were left on him but he hissed out in pain.
Pins and needles shot up through Two Time’s arm. Similar to what they felt whenever they successfully landed a stab. It's a high that reminded them of whenever they gained blood oblation.
“SHED!” Chance winded up his arm ready to fire a shot. Two Time swerved out the line of fire with their enhanced speed. The shock wave of the blast fired out. Even the recoil of Chance firing his flintlock was slowed down. A spherical bullet flew by just in front of their face, “DANG— QUICK! MOVE OUT OF THIS THING!”
They took the opportunity and caught another slash at Shedletsky. “GHH— HALF!” Two Time knew what that meant. All of them knew Shedletsky’s health was below half. They hadn't known they'd do such damage. The man doesn't even look harmed. Perhaps they didn't need to hurt and slash them to deal damage?
Pizza came flying at Shedletsky like a frisbee. It landed perfectly in his hands as he scarfed the thing all the way down to the crust and finished it off in two bites. Gross. The Elders of the Spawn wouldn't condone such unseemly eating mannerisms like that.
This was quite annoying. Now he had, or probably had, full health.
Chance’s coin tinged in the background.
.
Two Time dashed towards Chance as they trusted their hand forward, almost pushing him like in tag. The sensation surged up their arm giving them an almost rejuvenating high like a cool feeling dripping up into their upper arm into the rest of their body.
“CHANCE!” Both Elliot and Shedletsky yelled out. Chance’s body practically dropped limp beneath their feet. Huh, they didn't expect Chance to have enough weakness for a one shot on him.
Spawn, they actually just killed someone here, and so easily too. It's pathetic. To think Two Time was so willing to listen to the Spectre like this simply because it was dangling Azure over their head like a carrot on a stick.
The white tint dissipated from their vision. Their previous speed had returned and a translucent barrier had washed over them. The barrier collapsed into a small white orb right where they were fighting Shedletsky before it bombed out of existence. It created a small blast to the radius of it that damaged both Elliot and Shedletsky slightly. So that would explain the speed and slowness. It made up for their obvious chase disadvantage.
“Darnit, Chance! We just had a conversation about watching your weakness— Shed, let's go!” Elliot beckoned the other to follow as he dashed off. They might need to get rid of Elliot as soon as possible or he’ll continue healing the others.
Shedletsky charged toward them, drawing his sword and slashed at their chest. They backed up a little too late and the upper end of his sword struck them.
It was more of a whack if anything as there was no flesh for the sword to cut which caused him to recoil from the force. A few stray small bits of stone chipped off of them but Two Time was sure the edge of Shedletsky’s sword was a bit bented. “Tsk— Yeah, just behind you!” The admin quickly followed behind after he landed the stun on them.
Two Time was starting to hate sentinels, though that was hypocritical. They understood the annoyance of it now. They put the thought aside. Elliot was the main problem anyways and while catching up to them was going to be difficult, they knew the grounds of the sanctuary like the back of their hand.
They sprinted after them, focused on the bright red uniform that ducked behind one of the cottages. Speed regained in their legs again just as both of them got out of their sight.
A punch straight to the face wasn't exactly fun. A cracking sound was heard and the edges of their vision grew darker like the vignette of a picture. Everything was blurry and like colourful blobs around them.
They followed the blue of Guest’s hair that stood out compared to the rest of his outfit though focusing on taking the shortest path toward him. He swiftly weaved and ducked out of their attacks despite his limping state.
Landing a soft touch to Guest’s back the soldier dropped to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut off. Guest was quite the annoying one as he had a way of dodging and blocking just as you got careless and desperate to hit him.
6 minutes and 15 seconds.
Time was added as in the distance there was a yellow figure highlighted on the other side of the map. The last survivor. Shedletsky.
Two Time was going to win this round, just this one last push. One last person in the way of them and Azure.
He was in the middle of the sanctuary again. They darted toward the middle, this time a little more aware of how their abilities worked. It was difficult but they opted to hide behind structures and walls for cover as a sort of loophole. As long as they couldn't actually see a survivor at their position within a certain distance of them then they wouldn't gain the slowness.
There it was. The shine where they'd remembered praying millions of times before. In ruins but had been unchanged. That particularly ticked off Two Time.
How some of the things in the sanctuary were destroyed or a wall was broken down just so the survivors had more exit routes. Definitely all the Spectre’s doing, with no respect for how sacred this place was either.
Though it was making Two Time kill people for the sake of pain and suffering in exchange for this chance to talk to Azure. Guess they couldn’t hate on it too much, lest they make it angry.
Shedletsky had his sword out in a guard stance. He had his hands clasped together as he held the sword out in front of him with his legs spread out shoulder width.
They swiped at him as he ducked to avoid the attack. Huh, so they were playing this again. Two Time paused their movement and watched Shed carefully. They had to conserve stamina as Shedletsky would constantly weave their attacks. Constantly, they kept walking pace and once they were sure they had a stamina advantage over the other their force field enveloped both of them.
It seemed like by now the sword user was also learning and adjusting to their moves. He moved to get out of the field before getting nicked by one of Two Time’s claws. They had to take advantage of this speed right now while Shedletsky’s stamina would be lower than theirs.
Two Time managed another touch before Shedletsky managed to get out and started limping. Usually a bad thing but right now it was a sign that victory was just in the palm of their hand. They just needed to have one last push to grasp it.
The sword wielder was panicking. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he hissed the pain away. Panic was something they could use to their advantage. Two Time got aggressive changing their behaviour as they started rapidly swinging at Shedletsky. Not in a desperate way like earlier, but just enough to intimidate. They backed up just as Shedletsky drove his sword forward to slash.
An easy hit. One fast jab to Shedletsky’s shoulder and the sword fighter’s body plummeted to the ground.
There was a small, faint sense of accomplishment. Despite that, there was no confetti, no celebratory tone, not even the sound of crickets or the wind flying past them. It crushed that joy and left behind an apathy in their chest that almost made all this not feel worth it.
No, that wasn't the case. The silence was just too loud. It was almost unnerving.
One blink and they were in the same living room cabin with all of the killers again. All of them looked at them with a variety of stunned and excited expressions.
“Seraph! You're alright!” Azure called out to them first with a grin evident on his face, “That was amazing for your first round. We were worried for you at first.” They couldn't help but smile at the praise.
On the TV screen displayed a paused image of them just as the round ended with a text box and white text saying, “The Killer won.”
“They did alright, as long as I get to see Shedletsky lose.” 1x shrugged, his tone annoyed and dismissive.
“C-Com-oMe OoN, ExIe! Do-D-doN’T Be SuC-sucH BuZz-Ki-kiLl!” Noli interjected, “wE AlL kN-KnoW yOuRE pR-Pro-prOuD.”
“Don't call me that!” 1x rebutted, “I'm just saying that they did good for their first round even if they struggled at first not knowing what to do.”
“Oh, so you do admit it? We’ve talked about this 1x, you don't have to act like you hate us all the time.” Azure teased.
“SHUT UP! Ugh, I hate all of you. I’m going to kill you all!” 1x gripped tightly on his daemonshanks clearly holding himself back. Could the killers even attack each other here?
Bickering filled up the room. Though if Two Time had to describe it, it wasn't aggressive or threatening, it was playful. Everyone interacted almost like friends rather than a bunch of people who had murdered others.
It reminded Two Time almost of the Spawn. A group of people that were outcasted before all of them learned and were graciously accommodated into The Spawn with open arms.
A group of people who are murderers yet, act almost like a family. It might not make the whole killer thing any better but it shed a new perspective that one might not have thought of. They smiled faintly remembering the moments they had in the sanctuary, especially with Azure. This felt so familiar. It was reminiscent.
“Seraph?” A high pitched voice spoke up at them. They looked down at whoever called them. It was pr3typriincess. “You were so incredible!” She squealed out in excitement, “I was just wondering if you'd like to come have a tea party with me later?” That was not what they expected. “You're literally so graceful and elegant, I’d love to invite you to a formal gathering!”
The smile on their face grew in amazement. Mostly because it was ironic because pr3typriincess absolutely hated their guts whenever they landed a backstab on her but also the fact someone actually wanted to hang out and speak to them. “I wouldn't mind going at all.”
Her face lit up as she practically jumped up in excitement. “YAY! See you later, Seraph!” The little girl skipped off into the upper floor presumably to go bother one of the other kids.
A figure steps into their view waving a hand at them. Azure. “Seraph, don't get us wrong, you did amazing out there,” he started with a meek smile, “But we understand if you're overwhelmed, especially since it was your first round and how confused you probably are. You're free to go to your cabin if you want.”
“Alright, thank you, Azure,” They’d rather stay near him but that was a bit too forward to say aloud. Instead they nodded, taking up Azure's offer. There really was no reason to return to the empty void of their cabin but it was better than standing awkwardly in a room. To this makeshift family, they were practically a stranger.
They headed outside as they took one last look at everyone chatting and doing their own things. Azure had a gentle smile as he gave them a small wave. Spawn, maybe this was worth it. They closed the door.
Azure was so skilled. His garden looked like something out of a well renowned tourist spot. Two Time was glad that now Azure actually had the space to celebrate his favourite hobby to its full potential. Everything was colourful and allowed Two Time to have a peaceful moment while walking down the stone path.
Two Time would say that the tulip patch was by far their favourite arrangement there, though they might be a bit biased. Azure also said it was his favourite. They took a moment to admire the patch once again before they resumed their way to their cabin.
When they opened the door they were met with the same black void previously. Is there really nothing they could possibly desire? Maybe that was a good thing, the Spawn would be proud.
Would you like to switch back?
Switch back to being a survivor again? Would they be allowed to go back every time they went back to their cabin?
Yes, you’ve earned your win this round and you're still allowed to see your precious gardener, but you still have to do your survivor rounds.
Yeah, they understood. If they had to keep up this balancing act between roles it might be a problem. They have to go back though.
Very well.
The void around them shifted, getting lighter and lighter before it became a blinding light. They squinted and covered their face with an arm. When Two Time looked around them again they were met with the sight of their room in their survivor cabin. A plethora of ceremonial candles were a familiar and comforting sight.
They felt around their head as the crown they had was gone. Stone wings no longer pressed on their back and arms only to be replaced by the flesh and bone of their tail. They were back to normal and their dagger was now back placed comfortably back to their waist.
Two Time opened the door outside and they'd almost forgotten how desolate the survivor area was. An eternal night with a thick forest surrounding the area. There was nothing nice to say about the nature outside. It was bland and dead, no unique flowers, just wet grass and trees. A stocking contrast to how nice the killer’s had it.
When they entered the main cabin no chatter was heard. Tension was in the air as all of the other survivors seemed to be sulking and doing their own thing.
“Two Time, you're here. Was just about to get you,” Guest noticed their entrance from his spot leaning on the couch and called out, “Everyone, gather up. There's a new killer and we need to revise our strategy.”
All of the survivors made their way into the living room. Each of them had tense faces. If Two Time had to guess how this'll go there’ll probably be an argument.
In the end, they knew this conversation would probably not go well.
Notes:
Yeah also sorry about that time skip for Seraph beating everyone up
I'm gonna be honest though it wasn't really important
Can't say much but most of the things mentioned probably are important later on
I rub my hands together mischievously
Chapter 4: Sleepless - Dutch Melrose
Notes:
There is no author's curse. Unless there's some weird thing I forgot then I'm definitely a liar. There is no excuse, I'm actually just lazy and unmotivated. I can't be like that though, there's WAYY too many things I have planned for this fic I can't abandon that yet.
Also the guilt of begging my favourite fics to update and then I look at the side and see this.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
While they sat right in front of the fireplace everyone was in a sort of rough circle shape semi-scattered in the living room.
“Now that all of us are gathered here,” Guest started with a tense posture and tone, “I know we're all stressed out from our previous losses but now we have an opportunity to discuss and come up with a plan for the future.”
Builderman raised a hand to indicate he was about to start speaking.
Two Time’s tail idly swayed behind them. The heat from the fire pressed at their back as they picked at the dirt under their nails. Azure always used to say how perfect their hands were. They didn't really get the praise especially because they're hands are solely covered in cuts and hang nails but they still enjoyed the roughness of his hands whenever they held onto theirs—
They pushed the thought to the back of their mind. It was a fleeting moment now.
“Two Time.” Builderman drew their attention to them, “You definitely know that first new killer. What do you know about him?”
.
That was a question they didn't really want to dig into. Their lips felt like they were glued shut as they stared at the older man. Everyone else was looking at them for an answer. It was almost as if they couldn't speak, like talking was something they forgot how to do at that moment.
“He’s..” They paused, finding it hard to force the words out. The silence drew on as each of the survivors' faces twisted in emotions Two Time wasn’t sure of.
No tension filled the air, if anything it was more a sense of awkwardness. Despite that, there was a tightness right in the center of their chest. It was almost like their body didn't want this to slip out.
They mustered up every drop of their will to force the words out, “..just someone from The Spawn. They were a very kind individual, it's no wonder The Spawn has granted them a second life.”
A few of the survivors especially that Divine Pumpkin’s expressions had scrunched up at the statement.
“Right..” Guest’s expression was strained, “Do you have any ideas on how exactly his abilities work? You’ve obviously known him previously, surely you have an idea of what he's able to do.”
Two Time really would rather move on to something else. This reminiscent feeling should be pushed off to the side. Azure’s previous.. departure should be celebrated by them. “Unfortunately for you, dear soldier, I'm unsure myself.”
Everyone’s faces dropped in what could only be frustration.
“Are you sure?” Noob’s quiet voice asked, “They definitely know you, surely you're aware of something.. Eh- Not that we want to force you or anything—”
“Nah,” Chance interrupted, “It's relevant. We should be told about it. Two Time,” They returned the gambler's stare as they picked at some hangnails on their fingers. The stinging sensation shot down their hands. “You're saying this Azure guy got a ‘second life’ and is now put into this place?”
“Yes,” Their smile on their face grew as the thought of it acknowledged out loud brought them a sense of joy, “You would be correct.” The Spawn was truly generous.
Chance paused at their statement as if pondering something for a moment. “You're implying that he's changed somehow,” Their posture straightened up as it clicked and the lightbulb in his head lit up, “That's why you don't even know what he can do— and I’m willing to bet you have something to do with why he's like that. Don't you, Two Time?”
All their muscles tensed. They knew how awfully laid back the gambler was and while he might not seem like it all the time, the guy wasn't an idiot. He’d apparently run a casino and knew their way around various table games. Now it's like he’d just read Two Time’s hand like a card game.
“Chance, that's enough—” Guest tried to mediate.
“No, I’m onto something here,” Chance cut the soldier off, “It has something to do with that weird cult they're always talking about. Can't put my finger on it.”
That had certainly struck one of Two Time’s nerves. “The Spawn is not a cult!” They countered the flat out lie as they got up from their spot right in front of the fireplace, “The Spawn is my faith and the cause of my existence! To even insinuate otherwise is—.. insensitive!” The grip of their dagger lightly touched the palm of their hand.
A hand was placed right in front of their chest as it lightly held them back. Builderman had gotten up and slid between them and Chance.
“Two Time,” he warned. Honestly, Two Time wasn't trying to harm the casino owner. They just wanted to emphasize their point. Their feet stopped as they anchored themselves and they drew their hand away from where their dagger sat at their waist.
The admin had let out a sigh collecting himself for a moment as he took a pause to think.
“Chance, I know you want to help but you know this isn’t the way you should—” Builderman turned his eyes towards them for a split second as if checking for their expression, "..approach Two Time.”
..What was that supposed to mean?
“‘Approach me’?” Two Time questioned. They saw Shedletsky wince from his spot on the couch right behind Builderman as he sucked in his breath.
“Ah, I meant as in.. how to treat you.” Builderman corrected himself.
It made sense but why didn't Builderman phrase it like that in the first place?
“Times,” Chance interrupted their train of thought as he raised his hands up in front of his chest like you’d treat an animal, “I’m sorry. My bad, alright? Didn’t mean to disrespect your beliefs. I just got carried away. Let's just move on from this, yeah?” They supposed he was right. The Spawn wouldn't approve of such a silly argument anyways.
Previous tenseness the other survivors had eased as Two Time backed off.
A large hand was placed right on their back. Guest had walked over to them, giving them a reassuring touch and smile. “You don't have to say anything you don't want about..”
“Azure,” Two Time clarified his name.
“Azure. I understand you're uncomfortable. I’ll talk to you about what we’ve come up with for both killers later. Why don't you just go to your cabin for now?” The soldier had offered.
Two Time contemplated for a moment giving a stare at Guest that seemed to make his smile falter just a little bit. “Right, my apologies. Tell me about what was discussed later.”
They moved towards the door that led outside. It wasn't like they needed to know anything about Seraph anyways, and they'd rather not talk about their relationship with Azure. Not after Chance’s theories being too close for comfort.
As they stepped outside they swore a few of the other survivors had let out breaths and sighs before they closed the door behind them.
Upon entering their cabin they were met with the soft dim light of their candles once again.
The other survivors were surely planning something, or at the very least excluding them.
It's no matter, they shouldn't need to worry about the trivial opinions of outsiders of the Spawn anyways. At least, that's what the elders always said.
Pr3typriincess is looking for you.
Oh Spawn. They completely forgot about Princess’ offer. They didn't even know why they agreed to go to whatever tea party she was hosting anyways. There was an option where they just didn’t go, making Pr3typriincess happy was not the list of goals when it came to Azure. No, if they had a bad relationship with the other killers they might tell Azure about it.
Two Time sighed as the room around them got impossibly bright which forced them to shield their eyes. They're once again met with the sad black void of their “room.”
Fast yet rhythmic knocking was heard from the door. Stone touched the coldness of the door handle before they were met with the sight of the pink child.
Pr3typriincess was carrying what looked to be a bunch of dark blue maybe purple cloth as well as a variety of different hair accessories and a small roll of clear tape on top of the pile.
“Seraph!” The little girl probably would’ve been bouncing with joy if it weren't for the pile of things in her arms, “Come to the cabin, I’ve got everything set up.”
They nod in agreement as they reach down halfway into the pile Pr3typriincess was carrying to help free up her hands. The little girl raised up her arms which allowed Two Time to slide their stone fingers into the middle of the fabrics.
“Thank you, Seraph! You're such a distinguished person.” She thanked them as she stepped away and headed towards the main cabin pointing with her head to signal them to follow.
As they passed through the garden Pr3typriincess seemed to hum a short tune.
“Do you have a favourite flower, Seraph? Azure might grow them for you.” Pr3typriincess asked as she paused her hum and looked around the garden.
“Ah, I’m not a flower person. Though, I guess I’d say nightshades..” Two Time had to admit that over time the flower had honestly grown on them.
She perked up a little bit as they said that, “Oh! Those are Azure’s favourites. They're really pretty but my favourites are called Bleeding Hearts.” The girl shifted her arms, freeing one of them up. Her hand pointed toward short bush-like plants that had pink heart-shaped flowers with a water looking substance dangling from the bottom hanging from their stems. “Aren’t they amazing?”
Two Time had to admit the flowers were quite lovely and obviously looked like little hearts hanging from branches. They could see the appeal the girl had for them so they just gave an affirmative hum the girl seemed to accept.
Upon entering the cabin Pr3typriincess guided them up the stairs. In the loft area in which there would usually be the small TV with bean bags, the pool table, the table they played board games on that currently had a jenga tower on it, darts and shelf in the survivor area they were met with an area probably dedicated to the kids here.
There was a gaming set up for Bluudude, a slightly big decorated area with table filled with decorations presumably for Pr3typriincess’ formal gatherings and a variety of different toys and items probably for C00lkidd. The child didn't look like they had a hobby they were more interested in compared to the other kids just yet.
The girl set all the items she was holding in her area of the room on the table as she urged Two Time to do the same. “Now,” She started, “We can’t have you at one of my esteemed gatherings without proper attire!” She sifts through the fabric occasionally holding up a few of them in front of Two Time as if imagining how it would look on them.
Oh, so that's what this was for. It was for them.
“I don't think you can change the er.. ‘clothes’ you have on so I just figured I could drape stuff over it to sort of cover it?” She questioned, “Also I thought you would look good in blue or purple.”
Her head perked up as she held up a dark blue fabric with slightly lighter purple ombre and blue and purple sparkles.
“Aha!” Pr3typriincess held the item up as she wrapped it around their already chiseled clothes. She took the roll of tap on top of the pile and stuck a long strip of it on their shoulder to hold up the fabric. She turned back and sifted through the pile to land on a piece that was a translucent purple. It was draped over their arms to act like a shawl.
When Pr3typriincess had asked if there was any accessory they liked they couldn't help themself. They pointed to a circular shaped purple flower hair clip. Morning Glories, they believed the name was. Pr3typriincess’ eyes lit up as she agreed that it was perfect.
With the final touch taped on to the side of their head the girl moved the rest of the fabric and accessories she brought off the table for her formal gatherings and the two finally sat down.

They're unsure how Pr3typriincess had managed to get all these food items. The tea set pottery she had was a soft pink with gold accents with little flower decor on them. She even had a three tier tray with scones and sandwiches.
“You're amazing, Seraph. I can tell we're going to get along well.” She complimented, “You should’ve seen how loud 1x cheered! They’d never admit it afterwards though.”
It was ironic how much Pr3typriincess was warming up to them. Her inviting Two Time of all people was something she definitely wouldn't be happy about. Though her statement made them curious. “Why?” 1x wasn't the type to actively be proud of anything, especially not with how their first round was slightly embarrassing.
“Oh right.. You don't know.” The girl cups her fingers near her mouth as if shielding the secret, “1x hates Shedletsky. She was so proud when you got him.”
That part was obvious. It was blatantly obvious that 1x had some sort of grudge against Shedletsky. Though, Two Time could tell that Pr3typriincess was one for gossip. They're unsure if they should indulge her. After all, the elders always informed them that they shouldn't believe baseless rumours people thought up about the spawn. Surely rumours such as this should apply as well?
Before they could stop her Pr3typriincess continued, “Apparently, Shedletsky is sort of like 1x’s creator! That's where their whole ‘Creation of Hatred’ schtick is from. Quite literally made from Shedletsky’s hatred.”
Oh! Two Time hadn't been aware of that fact. It disproves his whole claim of “1x just being a hater.” Which isn't technically wrong but certainly gives more depth on their relationship.
They knew that Shedletsky harboured some sort of pity towards someone like 007n7. Now with this knowledge it probably has some sort of correlation with Shedletsky being afraid of what the other survivors would think of him knowing this especially with how n7 is.
This could actually be beneficial. Pr3typriincess was so willing to give them information. “Oh? Really?!"
“I know, right?!” The child’s smile widened as Two Time encouraged her to go on, “He might be angry about that but I assure you, big sis 1x can be nice! All of us were worried, but especially them.”
When they thought about it, 1x seemed more grumpy rather than actually showing hatred towards the other killers. “Why’s that?”
For the first time since they greeted Pr3typriincess right in front of their cabin door her smile faltered. Her face dimmed as her joyful smile looked almost like she was scared. “..I’m not allowed to say.”
The mood around the table changed as there was an awkward silence that filled the air.
“I’m sorry, Seraph. Let's continue this later.” She shifted getting up from her chair as she started picking up the plates to put them away. “You can keep the outfit..”
She waved her hand, shooing them away as she continued cleaning up. It was an abrupt ending but they figured the little girl needed space. Clearly something had upset her and Two Time was unsure of how to help.
As they headed down the loft and into the main living room after nobody really seemed fazed by their attire. Bluudude gave out a wave as well as Noli in which they quickly gave a small wave back before they opened the door and stepped back outside.
There wasn't any particular thing they thought of doing. The next round probably wasn't going to start any time soon, especially with how close together the last two were. Their walk through the garden was interrupted by a voice.
“Seraph!” It was Azure. He was tending to another patch of flowers. This time it looked to be black dahlias, “How are you settling in?”
“I’m doing alright. Thank you.” They redirected themself slowly walking closer to observe what Azure was doing.
“Do you want to stay and chat? I wouldn't mind the company.” He said as he seemed to be sniping the centre stem of the dahlias off.
They held up the drooping fabric so it wouldn't get dirtied and sat right next to the patch. “Sure, I wouldn't mind at all.”
Notes:
Super mega rushed art guys sorry
I swear this is a Azuretime fanfic I just need to build up everything and keep you guys happy before I crash everything down
Too many surprises and events I have hinted at and planned what am I going to do. Say what ever little theories you have too, won't say if they're right but it's amusing to see what you guys think
Semi related to that last note, in case you're wondering the other survivor that wasn't in "Seraph"'s round besides Two Time for obvious reasons was Dusekkar. I've been wondering whether or not to make it relevant or not, who knows? Might be mentioned later but I'm not really sure
I'm just saying so incase I do decide not to make it relevant
