Link's Cat is a Demon not Clickbate

Summary:

Demise isn't the only one who gets trapped in a form not his own. Ghirahim is as well, and turns out his new form is utterly irresistable to Link, much to Hylia's horror.

Work Text:

Hylia was sad to say that She did not see this coming.

In hindsight, it was an obvious conclusion. Ghirahim, desperately loyal fool that he was, would never just allow Demise to be imprisoned without a final stand. When he teleported in front of the spell, Hylia immediately prepared for the worst.

At the time it wasn’t obvious, but that is precisely what She got.

The spell was still powerful enough to trap Demise into a monstrous form, even with the sword spirit putting all he had into blocking it. But, of course, it still hit him as well. The spell had a very unexpected effect on him.

Rather than becoming huge, ugly and monstrous like his master, Ghirahim shrank down. When the spell was complete, he turned into, of all things, a remlit.

His fur was mostly a pale silvery gray, almost like the color of the moon. The only exceptions were the back of his head and ears, which were white, and a bright red patch of fur on his forehead that was the exact shape of a diamond. Also, he still had his large, deep brown eyes.

The Imprisoned, seemingly as enraged as the goddess was baffled, lunged and attempted to devour the tiny creature. Remlit Ghirahim yowled and tore away from the battlefield as fast as his little paws would carry him, which was quite fast.

As much as She disliked Ghirahim, even She could admit that was a dick move on Demise’s part.

But, oh well. She wouldn’t look very good to the people if She tried to imprison a cute little demon cat, and it’s not as though Ghirahim could do any harm in this form, right?

Right?

“Zelda! Zelda!” Link bounds into Zelda’s room at an ungodly hour of the morning, full of excitement. “I got a new pet!”

Said little girl yawns, and rubs her eyes. “Huh? Oh, what kind of pet is—oh. Oh.”

Suddenly, Zelda was very awake. For curled up in the little boy’s arms is a very familiar, and very wet, remlit. “He came into my window during the thunderstorm. I’ve never seen a remmy that looks like this before; he’s so cute! Do you think Horwell would know why he looks like this?”

The remlit’s mahogany eyes slowly flutter open. His gaze locks with Zelda’s, and he lets out an explosive hiss. Zelda flinches back.

Link, however, is unbothered. “It’s okay, he’s just scared.” He caresses the creature’s head, and annoyingly, he leans into the touch.

Alright, Zelda thinks to herself quickly. Yes, you don’t know how Ghirahim got onto Skyloft or even how he managed to survive in that form all this time, but it’s fine. You can still salvage this.

“Uh, that remlit seems pretty feral, Link. I don’t think this is a good idea. Surely, your family won’t approve.”

His family did, in fact, approve.

Zelda was beginning to realize that this was a bigger problem than she’d first thought, back in her goddess days. Ghirahim’s presence was putting a wrench in her entire plan to rid the world of Demise once and for all.

No, Ghirahim wasn’t somehow influencing Link to be evil. That actually would have made things a bit simpler to deal with. No, the issue was that Link was absolutely in love with his new pet, who he named Diamond after the patch of fur on his forehead. And the most horrifying thing of all?

The feeling seemed to be mutual.

The two were absolutely inseparable, one rarely being seen without the other. ‘Diamond’ would perch about LInk’s shoulders as he read, and sleep with him in his bed every night. He would even bring him small objects when the boy asked for them, and everyone would be so impressed with the creature’s intelligence, much to his obvious delight.

Diamond never got over his clear distaste for Zelda, however, much to LInk’s confusion and slight sadness. But that was fine by her, since she didn’t much care for the demon-turned-remlit either. She’s not jealous of him, though, regardless of what Gaepora might amusedly point out. NO. She just wishes the thing would get out of her way so she could train up her hero properly.

Zelda had hoped that once Link was old enough to receive his Crimson Loftwing, she could finally start her planning proper. Surely then, when the two would go flying together, that would give Zelda the opening she needed to plant the proper seeds.

Only for LInk, with his woodcarving skills, to build a little basket for the remlit to ride in so he could accompany the boy even while he flew. Link’s loftwing not only seemed to be okay with this arrangement, but got along swimmingly with the little remlit. Some guardian bird he turned out to be.

Groose was annoying, but no real hassle. Zelda could see he had a crush on her, and realized she could use that to her advantage. A little competition and rivalry would motivate LINk into being the best he could be, and of course, for him to want to save her when the time came.

Zelda put on a distressed face when he began to tease Link and push him around. Only for that distress to become very real when the poor boy nearly lost an eye thanks to Diamond’s vicious defense of his owner.

When Zelda complained—er, voiced her concerns to her father, the headmaster just smiled sadly at her and link. “Diamond was clearly just protecting Link from a bully. I’m beginning to realize that I haven’t taken this situation as seriously as I should have.”

Then he turned to Link, and he said: “You have a very loyal companion there, Link. Such bonds ought to be treasured.” He then gave the remlit a little scratch beneath his chin, and not only did he allow the contact, but leaned into it with a purr.

Gaepora then went off to discipline Groose and his gang for attacking Link. Said boy was happily holding his pet close as he gently licked his face. It was disgustingly adorable.

Groose soon lost his tough guy persona after that, being mocked relentlessly for being afraid of a cute little kitty that didn’t even get aggressive at night. And there was now tension in LInk and Zelda’s friendship due to her not defending him from Groose more, and trying to get his pet in trouble.

Sigh.

Zelda decided not to take part in the wing ceremony this year, instead allowing the goddess role to be taken by Karane. Link didn’t feel the need to compete either, so that meant Pipit would more than likely be the hero.

So it was a great surprise to Zelda to find Gaepora tending to a very distressed looking LInk, who was alone, for once.

“What happened?” Zelda asked.

“I-I was watching the ceremony, and there was this huge black tornado! It came out of nowhere, and it took Diamond!” Link then takes a deep breath, trying to look confident. “I have to rescue him.”

What!? Oh, for goddesses’ sake…
