To live (and take revenge)

Summary:

She was alone, not that it was unusual, she had been alone for two thousand years now, only waiting a mistake from the Travelers to escape. One little flaw...

Work Text:

Elena Gilbert’s POV :

It had been two months….two months, and then the void, a total void.

Elena Gilbert was now an orphan, with her little brother Jeremy, who wasn’t in a better state.

She was now living with her aunt Jenna, she was really kind and caring, but it was unfortunately useless to help Elena to face the reality of the situation : her parents were dead.

The cruelest thing for Elena was to see life continuing around her. She couldn’t go on, everytime she was trying to face her life again, all she could feel was the humming in her head. The exact same humming that she heard during the night of the accident, and it felt terrible.

The loneliness was her new friend and the little energy she had, she was spending it by walking without any purpose, she just wanted to be sure to sleep at night by wearing herself out, because at least her nights were dreamless.

Her friends Bonnie and Caroline were trying to reach her, but she couldn’t see them, seeing them would mean she had to talk about her, about that night, she just couldn’t. All she could do was to apologise to them and to promise she would see them at the start of the new high school year.

One evening, on July 28th 2009 to be exact, she was having her usual walk before returning home and falling asleep. She was alone, it was a hot summer evening so she was only wearing a red playsuit. She had white tennis shoes at her feet, her hairs were untied, her curls falling under her waist (she had no energy to straighten them).

The streets were surprisingly empty considering the time of the year, it was rare to see literally nobody in Mystic Falls downtown during summer, even this late. There were often people in the park, with a truck serving the most delicious italian ice-cream Elena ever tasted, but this night, nothing.

Elena wasn’t mad at it, like this she was certain not be disturbed by anyone, it was peaceful, and feeling the gentle wind in her hairs was, for the first time in two months, reducing the sound of the humming in her head. She allowed herself to let tears fall from her eyes.

She continued to walk until Mystic Falls’ Church. It could’ve been a place of bad memories for Elena, but her parents' funerals didn’t happen here. Indeed, the Gilberts weren’t believers like the big majority of American people, not christian, not muslim, not jewish,...the right word was just atheist.

Elena didn’t know why she had walked to this place, but she was now standing in front of the huge facade of the building.

Just a night like the others, right ?

It could’ve been, but then she heard a voice resonating in her head, a shaking voice : “please ! please ! Help me !”

Her own voice
