Chapter Text
Nier yawned softly, scrunching her eyes as the room around her slowly filled with the dappled light of the morning sun passing through the curtains. She didn’t want to wake up. She was warm, and comfortable, and the blanket covering her was soft, and the arms holding her were so tight and cozy. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever slept this well in her life. It was like all her nightmares, her insomnia, and all those rampant thoughts died away in this soft embrace that she found herself curling back into in her half-asleep state. Though, she did let her eyes softly flutter open, feeling like it’d be a waste to not at least get a small look at the woman she was so happily cuddled up to.
Anila was so very pretty, and it made Nier’s heart flutter. Her long blonde hair seemed like liquid gold in the morning light, and Nier wasn’t sure if she’d seen something as cute as her sleeping face; so peaceful and sweet, her lips ever so slightly parted as she snored lightly. It was a miracle really, that she could be so comfy to cuddle with those curled horns on her head, but right now, they just served to make her look cuter. She even smelt perfect. Like a soft meadow filled with various flowers, that perfect mix of soft and earth and fragrant. Nier wasn’t sure how she’d gotten so lucky to be curled up with someone as pretty as the Divine General, let alone lucky enough to call her her girlfriend. She would forever be thankful to Djeeta and the rest of the crew for finally giving her a place, and helping her heal, even if there was still a long way to go on that journey, but being here with Anila like this was far and away the happiest she ever felt.
Caught up on her little moment of reminiscence, Nier sighed softly, which quickly turned into a yawn. She laid her head back down, resting it just above the other woman’s chest, and closed her eyes again. Though, her ear did flick with surprise and a small rush of happiness as those arms shifted again, holding Nier a little tighter as she felt her head be tucked back under her girlfriend’s chin. Nier hadn’t realised she’d woken up, but was more than happy to continue cuddling a while, a feeling that only furthered as she heard Anila speak up, her voice so soft and sleepy.
“We can stay a little while today…”
“Mhm. Of course.”
Nier made no argument to that suggestion, already feeling the tug of sleep again when surrounded by so much warmth of comfort. Neither of them had anything more to say as a whole, just softly slipping back into a blissful sleep, holding each other as close as could be, perfectly content to just have each other for the day and nothing more.
Notes:
As in the little summary, just trying to write these everyday to get a little better at writing this sort of thing!! Working on a longer fic as well but in the middle of most of my uni assignments right now so wanted to do this daily to stay on top of things. Anila/Nier (I like to refer to it as Anierla) is one of my fav gbf ships, and do want to write a longer fic with them with a bit more of a focus on Nier and healing cause she is really special to me as a character!! But in the meantime, hope you enjoy, and am on twitter @mag_pye and would love to talk about yuri stuff in general!!!!!
Chapter 2: (GBF) Promises (Djeeta/Lyria)
Summary:
Lyria can't help but fuss over Djeeta, especially when she comes back from a request hurt like this.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Djeeta winced as the damp cloth dabbed at the cut on her arm. It really wasn’t much, having just gotten caught by a monster’s claw while helping out some missing children on a request. It was nothing really, but the blue haired girl in front of her made sure to fuss over her as much as possible even if it was so much as a bruise.
“You really need to be more careful,” Lyria’s voice was ever so slightly chiding, accompanied by the pout on her face and the concern in her eyes. Her hands moved fairly deftly as she wiped away the last of the blood, making sure the wound was clean enough to bandage. A soft smile crept onto Djeeta’s face as she watched her girlfriend’s brow furrow, so single-mindedly focused on the task at hand. Lyria had gotten quite good at tending to these little cuts and scrapes from Djeeta’s recklessness, and whilst there were plenty of talented healers and doctors aboard the Grandcypher, its captain would always rather be doted on by that girl who was so very special to her.
“I’ve had far worse you know. It’s nothing to stress over,” Djeeta played it off with a slight laugh, brushing what would inevitably become her latest scar off as nothing. Yet, her voice did carry a certain soothing undertone, wanting to try and ease the stress and anxiety clearly rushing through Lyria as fussed over the fresh cut and wrapped bandages around it tightly. Djeeta did all she could to hold back a wince, not wanting to add an ounce of worry to her girlfriend’s mind.
“I don’t care that you’ve had worse,” her voice was surprisingly firm as Lyria, usually so soft-spoken, finished tightening and tying up the bandages. Her eyes were ever so slightly downcast at Djeeta’s words, clearly not satisfied with her dismissiveness. She knew that being the Singularity came with all sorts of dangers, and that there was plenty to hurt the blonde girl in her day-to-day life, and she also knew that there was not a single part of her that didn’t love how kind and compassionate she was, even if it did result in reckless behaviour and results like this sometimes. But that love didn’t stop her voice from quieting slightly more, filled with worry and concern and love and a bit of sadness and so many other swirling emotions. “I just, I don’t like seeing you hurt ever. Even if you think its small, it just makes me sad seeing you, and feeling you be in pain like this.”
With a soft sigh, Djeeta, shifted to wrap her arms around Lyria, holding her girlfriend tight whilst making sure not to put pressure on her arm for her sake.
“I know.” Another deep breath. Djeeta wasn’t sure if she’d be able to help her rash behaviour, especially not when it came to helping people, but at the same time, the pain she felt at the thought of upsetting Lyria was far worse than anything physical she’d ever experienced. “I’ll try and be a little safer, okay? For you.”
These words could easily be seen as just an empty promise, a way to alleviate Lyria’s concern, but the blue haired girl knew it wasn’t like that. She trusted Djeeta fully, not even needing to rely on their bonded souls to know how much she meant those words. She gave a small nod, sinking further into her girlfriend’s embrace to signal her thanks for that promise.
“Though, to ensure this little cut heals properly, I am going to need to request some nice cuddles from my very pretty girlfriend. It’s the only thing that’ll help, doc,” Djeeta smiled softly, tightening her grip around Lyria, before leaning forwards to press a soft kiss to her forehead. She held it for a few moments, wanting to make sure she got across just how thankful she was to have the shorter girl in her life. Her tone softened further from its playfulness, becoming so very genuine and full of every ounce of care and affection she could muster. “I love you so much, y’know that?”
“Love you too.” Lyria didn’t feel the need to say much else, laying her head on her partner’s chest, utterly content to remain like this. In Djeeta’s room, and in her arms, away from everything else that could interrupt or hurt the two of them. Sometimes Lyria wondered what it must have been like for Djeeta to have a home before this journey, a place that was well and truly hers, where the troubles of everything across all the skydoms couldn’t reach her, but as of late, she’d manage to quell those thoughts. After all, she had come to realise she had a home now; wherever this radiant, beautiful girl was. And nothing could make her happier than that.
Notes:
Was gonna do more anierla today, but just got hit the vision of this and really wanted to try writing Djeeta and Lyria (did consider orchipollo for this but idk, prefer post fighting domestic them). I was initially gonna try and write Djeeta as mute, as someone who had difficulties speaking for a while I love seeing characters like that, but I do not think I'm nearly good enough to write that as is. Maybe when I write them again sometime......
Anyways @mag_pyre on twitter still if wanna talk about yuri and granblue stuff!!!!
Chapter 3: (GBF) Pretty As Could Be (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila can't help but marvel at just how pretty her girlfriend is while so very focused.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
The sounds of pens being scribbled against paper rapidly filled the small cabin aboard the Grandcypher, echoing from two women sitting side by side at a desk with their respective notebooks. Nier was laser focused, completely absorbed by the story she was working on. Anila sat next to her; her hand having stilled on the play she was writing. She was still very much a novice, but between her enjoyment of writing for last year’s summer festival, and the fervour with which her girlfriend wrote, it was hard not to try her own luck at it. She loved it, far from her usual hobbies, though her focus was far from her page right now. She braced her head up with her arm, just silently admiring that focused look in Nier’s eyes as she wrote line after line without stop. It was hard not to adore how beautiful she looked like this, so focused and determined. In fact, the divine sheep’s page had somehow shifted from writing, to doing her best to sketch out how cute Nier looked right now, barely able to help herself from wanting to capture the moment. Though, a quick glance at the time reminded the general of something, her hand slipping over her girlfriend’s and giving it a slight squeeze.
“Hey, it’s been well over an hour now, and you still haven’t eaten anything. Time for a snack, hm?” Anila’s voice was soft, not wanting to seem too demanding. She’d seen how Nier reacted to things like that before, and Anila isn’t sure how she’d be able to sleep for a while if she was ever the cause of that look in her partner’s eyes. But that being said, she also wouldn’t be happy with herself if she didn’t try her best to look after her too, and that included making sure the Erune was eating well. Anila gestured at the small plate of sweets she’d made for their writing session earlier with her free hand, hoping she’d get to feel that spark of joy knowing her cooking was being enjoyed by someone she cared so much about.
“Ah, of… of course. I just, I got a little too absorbed in my work again…” Nier couldn’t help but feel a little sheepish at the realisation she’d forgotten to eat again after promising Anila she’d try and do so a little more. Her cheeks grew ever so slightly red, though it wasn’t just from her embarrassment. She just couldn’t believe how lucky she was. She had a girlfriend who cared. One who cared enough to make sure she was okay in every regard, that she was healthy, and that she was happy. She’d never had anything like that before, and it filled her with so such a sense of surging warmth she thought she might burn up, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Nier reached out and took a sweet bean jelly filled taiyaki, nibbling on it as she met Anila’s loving gaze again. “Thank you. It’s really good.”
“I’m just glad you like,” the sincerity in Anila’s voice was unmistakable, wanting nothing more than to see her so unbearably cute girlfriend happy. How could she want anything else as she watched Nier look up at her like that whilst clearly enjoying the food she made. Her hand almost unconsciously went up to play with a lock of that beautiful raven hair, though with how Nier leaned into it, soon turned into softly petting her head and playing with those absurdly fluffy ears. If it made her girlfriend half as happy as it made her, Anila thought that it might be the best thing she’d ever done. Waiting for Nier to finish her little snack, Anila let her affection and love show, leaning in to press a kiss to the other girl’s cheek, before shifting to gently capture her lips with her own. It wasn’t too long, and was so very sweet, and for both of them, it may as well have been paradise.
“I should um, I think I should get back to writing,” Nier’s voice was little more than a squeak, and Anila knew it was just from embarrassment. She still wasn’t used to such casual affection, even though it was clear she loved it. It wasn’t a problem to the Draph though. She knew there’d be plenty of time for affection and cuddles later, so she just gave a slight nod and a loving smile. For now, she was just more than content to watch her girlfriend at work, who had already gone back to jotting down so much to hide her shyness. In Anila’s eyes, there had never been a more beautiful sight in all the skies.
Notes:
Little unsure of how I feel about this one but here goes!!! Couldn't decide on what to write today for a long while, but think I have tomorrow on lock!! I love these two so much, maybe probably my favourite Granblue ship, so will probably write them a lot because ough they're great.
Chapter 4: (GBF) The Auguste House Hunting Experience (Meg/Mari)
Summary:
Finding the perfect home is hard, but at least Meg and Mari will always have each other waiting for them.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“I don’t get why its so hard. Everything about the last place was perfect but noooo, they had to have the kitchen 6cm too small!” Mari bemoaned as Meg and her got back into their apartment, stretching lightly and kicking off her shoes as she did. She tossed the tape measure she’d brought in their efforts to find a house to share together on a side table as she made her way to the bathroom, letting her hair down as she started to remove her makeup. It shouldn’t be so hard to find the perfect home, really. All she wanted was enough room for bed they could both spread out and hold each other on, a kitchen where they’d occasionally brush past each other, a nice veranda where they could share tea, a sizable study so she could work from home to spend more time with Meg, a big enough bathroom to have a bathtub, or a shower if worst came to absolute worst, that they could share, a lounge room with a couch large enough to cuddle on, a nice home gym to ensure Meg could stay in shape and Mari could fawn over her while doing so, and a spare room for a nursery when they eventually had kids! It really shouldn’t be as hard as it was, but they’d been looking for weeks now.
“I didn’t mind the last place,” Meg called out from their bedroom, slowly taking off her armour. Part of her preferred to keep it on just in case Auguste needed her at any time, but Mari had said she’d wanted her to relax more, and Meg was hardly one to argue with her. She took a seat on the bed after getting changed into something a little more comfortable, knowing Mari would probably just continue their conversation once she had freshened up a little. Instead, Meg just smiled as she looked down at her hands, and more specifically the sparkling engagement ring that now adorned her finger. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was. She’d had a crush on her now-fiancée for the longest time, but it had been such a shock when Mari had proposed to her seemingly out of nowhere. Meg just never thought that there was any way the feelings were mutual.
“I don’t want you to just not mind it though,” Mari still was quite clearly a little frustrated with just how close they’d gotten to the perfect house earlier, only to have her hopes dashed. She sighed, taking a deep breath. She was back with Meg now. Everything was okay. Ursula had made her way to snuggle up in the bed the newly engaged couple had picked out for her, more than content with a little nap. It was the sort of thing Mari envisioned every day, and she just wanted to make sure things were as good as they could possibly be once they had their own home. She reached over, taking Meg’s hand with both of hers and giving it a little squeeze, before punctuating her affections with a kiss on the cheek. “Its just, I want this to be perfect, and for us to be happy for a long time coming.”
“Any of them would be perfect for me. I’ll be happy as long as I’m with you,” Meg spoke with her usual bluntness, meaning her words wholeheartedly. The thought of being able to spend every day of her life with someone amazing as Mari was beyond incredible, and she felt like that was more than enough when it came to finding a home. But at the same time, she was more than happy to wait as long as it took for Mari to find to find her perfect home, because seeing her eyes light up when she did find it would be beyond perfect.
Meg’s thoughts were cut short however, as Mari practically launched herself at her partner after her cheeks turned cherry red from her fiancée’s words, slinging her arms loosely around her neck to steady herself. Before Meg was given a moment to react, she felt Mari’s lips crash into hers, and she sunk right into it and the passion Mari brought with her. It was something Meg had learnt she’d have to prepare for, though she wasn’t sure if there would ever be a time where she wasn’t flustered by just how amazing the feeling was.
“You’re too perfect… How am I not supposed to fall in love with you again after saying something like that,” Mari’s words were murmured, so full of love, tenderness, and a hint of awe. It was hard to tell if she was just musing to herself or laying one of her frequent compliments on Meg. “I love you so much.”
Meg didn’t get the chance to respond, feeling Mari’s lips pressed against her again, stealing her breath and thoughts away once more. Neither of them noticed as Meg fell backwards onto the bed with Mari practically on top of her, nor did either care as their lips parted and met again and again and their tongues crashed into each other like the stormy Auguste sea. It was far from anything Meg was used to, but she couldn’t imagine doing anything else in the moment at just how happy her soon-to-be wife looked. Ursula on the other hand, was less than happy, waking up and floating out of the room, knowing that if that look in Mari’s eyes was anything, there would be very little sleep for anything in that bedroom tonight.
Notes:
hihi!! was thinking really hard about today, but wanted to write them a lot. mainly plan on keeping things mostly cutesy, but kinda hard when mari is such an unbound freak for her wife. enjoyed writing this one a lot just as a bit of a tone shift, but definitely gonna be sticking to the usual after mostly. not sure who i might do soon, wanna do orchipollo at some point and am interested in looking at song/silva after oomfie asked, so we'll see!!!
still on twitter @mag_pye i like yuri and talking about it
Chapter 5: (GBF) Blossoming Light (Song/Silva)
Summary:
Tweyen and Silva are eternally grateful to have a moment like this together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“They’re so pretty, aren’t they?” Tweyen’s voice was soft as she stared up at the fireworks in the sky, all their beautiful colours and patterns filling the air. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen a firework show, but it felt special this time, largely to do with the white-haired woman beside her whose hand she was holding. Tweyen gave it a small squeeze, eyes fixed on the fireworks above.
“It truly is quite the sight,” Silva’s voice was equally tender, just as enraptured by the sight before her, though her eyes weren’t focused on the dazzling lights above. She was much more taken by the smile on Tweyen’s face, the way her eyes lit up brighter than the fireworks in the sky, and the way she seemed to practically glow under the moonlight. Her being so pretty in her yukata and with her hair done up like that only added to the effect. Silva had always thought she was beautiful, if not drop dead gorgeous, but right now, the woman beside her was truly a one-of-a-kind sight. It made her heart flutter, and her arm almost unconsciously slipped from holding Tweyen’s hand to instead wrap around her waist. Silva couldn’t help but smile a little more as the Eternal returned the gesture near instantly, and looked over to meet Silva’s gaze.
“I’m really happy you’re here with me, Sil,” Tweyen flashed her a small smile, something just for Silva’s eyes only. And with the slight redness of her cheeks, her visage illuminated by the rainbow lights shimmering above, and the earnestness in her eyes, Silva wasn’t sure how she’d ever get her mind off the other girl again. She was beyond glad that Djeeta and the other’s had got the memo and left the two of them alone to share this evening together. Face to face like this, it felt like everything else in the world could just fade away, leaving them in this moment forever, and there’d be nary a complaint from either woman.
“And you don’t know how glad I am that you’re happy,” Silva brought her free hand up to cup the other woman’s cheek, gently stroking it with her thumb. She wanted to call her her girlfriend, or partner, or anything, but they’d never really spoke about anything official like that. For now, she was just her Tweyen, and that was more than enough to make Silva happy. They’d been through a lot, they’d had their issues, and their ups and downs, but this just felt like all the happiness in the world condensed into a single moment, washing away any residual pain that lingered at this point of time. Tweyen had always struggled so much with herself and her talents, but now, seeing her so blissfully content and unconcerned with anything of the sort just made Silva want to cherish this all the more.
“Sil, I...” Tweyen struggled with words for a moment, leaning into the warmth of Silva’s hand against her cheek. She brought her hand up to rest over it, trying to work up the courage to say what she wanted to say to no avail. Besides, she’d always found actions easier than words, leaning forwards and kissing the other woman so tenderly and sweetly before pulling back and letting the words near breathlessly slip from her lips. “I love you.”
Silva was stunned for a moment, hearing the words she had ached to hear for so long. Her thoughts were in such a flurry, her mouth dry and her head dizzy, that couldn’t dream of mustering words. So, she did the only thing she could; giving her answer to those beautiful words by leaning back in for a much longer, loving kiss as the fireworks blossomed in the sky above them. Eventually they split, and beneath the booming and crackling above, she managed to whisper a few words that Tweyen would treasure forevermore.
“I love you too.”

Chapter 6: (GBF) A Picnic on the Hill (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Katalina is more than happy to join her beloved Vira in a spot where they'd shared so many memories. (MSQ spoilers included)
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You made it,” Vira smiled as her beloved walked up the hill, finding her way over to join her on this little picnic blanket beneath an oak tree. This had always been their spot, since the Academy days. Whether it be to simply laze in the shade together, to study with one another, or to be away from the rest of the world and to only have each other’s company, more often than anyone else knew they would come here. It wasn’t hard to see why; from here, they could practically see the whole of Albion. “I made those sandwiches you so very love, dearest Katalina.”
“Where would I be without you?” Katalina smiled seeing her girlfriend so happy, and in that pretty white sundress of hers, it was hard not to enjoy the sight a little more. Its not like the feeling wasn’t mutual. Katalina had dressed herself in a simple dress shirt, some slacks, and a nice pair of leather shoes. And with the top two buttons undone, the sleeves rolled up, and how short she’d cut Katalina had cut her hair recently, it was lucky Vira was seated, lest she swooned and collapsed on the spot. Katalina made her way to her girlfriend’s side, sitting down beside her and greeting her with a loving kiss. “And such a beautiful day too. One to be shared with only the most beautiful of people.”
Katalina took her beloved’s hand, giving it a small kiss on the back to highlight her point.
“You’ve become quite the romantic these days, my love,” a soft giggle escaped Vira at the gesture, though it was more than welcome. Katalina had always been so very handsome, but it was hard not to be wowed when she looked and acted as she did in this moment. She reached her hand up to caress her lover’s cheeks, a touch warmer than the afternoon sun that dappled across their skin through the leaves above. It was hard not to see the pure adoration that shone upon Vira’s face, and she made no effort to hide it. Every inch of her being was adorned by her love for the woman sat beside her, and she would not have it any other way. “I’m so very lucky you’re mine.”
Vira leaned into press a few kisses to her beloved knight, first to her lips to return to the favour, then to her cheek, and then along her chiselled jawline. It seemed like a simple burst of affection, which it most certainly was, but Katalina could hardly notice the lipstick marks now adorning her face. Vira, however, was beyond pleased with them.
“As am I. I find it hard to imagine myself in better hands,” Katalina’s gaze and voice were no less loving than her dearest’s, as she shifted her arms to wrap around Vira’s waist. She was hungry, sure, but sandwiches could wait, even if they were more than certainly delectable. She leaned in and kissed the woman she loved so very much. Even just thinking of Vira as her girlfriend felt like too little sometimes. They were essentially drawn together by fate, from Albion and Ares, now to them. Perhaps Katalina would have to do something to rectify her issues with that term soon. She wouldn’t object to see the woman who had been by her side for so very long with a diamond ring upon her finger. It almost made her want to regret not recognising the feelings between them for so long.
“Is something wrong, my love? You seem… distracted,” Vira was quick to notice her dearest Katalina lost in thought, moving to the point she was half straddling her. “You know I will listen to any and every word you say, my dearest.”
Katalina sat in silence for a mere moment, one that was agonising to her clearly concerned partner. But after a second longer in thought, she just smiled and laughed. Those were thoughts for another day. For now, she would simply enjoy this time together, and look forwards to the future they would soon share side by side.
“No, nothing’s wrong. In fact, today I feel as if all is right with the world.” Katalina leaned in, capturing Vira’s lips again, albeit in a much more heated manner this time. Her grip tightened on her lover’s waist, pulling her in as their lips parted for but a moment before they plunged back together once more. Beneath the shade of an old oak tree that was so very special to them, they relished in their love for each other for a long time, then relished in the sandwiches Vira had made, although Katalina’s skin by that point was more visibly lipstick covered than not.
Or at least, these were the images her mind played of what could have been as the hole in Katalina’s chest drew her last breath closer and closer, happy memories that could blot out the faces of Djeeta and Lyria sobbing over her.
Notes:

Chapter 7: (GBF) Domestic Life (Mireille/Risette)
Summary:
Mireille awakes upon a cool morning and wonders where her beloved Risette is.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
The crisp Autumn morning brought along a sharp chill as Mireille awoke, her head still groggy from sleep. The bed was soft, covered in pillows and blankets to make it as comfortable as could be for her frail body. Mireille broke into a coughing fit as the cold air almost burned her lungs, though it worried her little. She was far more concerned by the absence of her beloved Risette beside her, especially with things as they’d been lately. After a few moments to prepare herself for the exertion, she sat up, reaching over and grabbing her cane. It took a good deal of strain, but she managed to push herself up, making her way to grab a heavy robe to protect her from the chill, and left the bedroom of the small house her and her wife were currently staying in.
“Risette?” Mireille’s voice was still sleepy and weak, not carrying far as she struggled down the hallway. Some days it was far easier than others, but on days like this even the simple task of walking a few metres proved to be difficult and painful. Her sole reprieve was that as she made her way a little closer to the kitchen, she heard a slight humming and began to smell something delicious cooking. Her senses were a little duller than they’d once been, but it was hard to not notice how delectable whatever was being made was. As she walked step by little step, her cane clacking on the polished wooden floor, the only thought on her mind was seeing her wife even as pain wracked through her.
“Mireille dear, is that you?” Risette called out with a mix of love and concern. It wasn’t good for Mireille to be up before taking her medicines. She quickly shuffled to down the hallway to find her, and immediately wrapped an arm around her wife to support her as she reached her side and planted a kiss on her forehead. “You should have waited. I would have brought breakfast to you.”
Mireille didn’t mind the slight chiding tone in Risette’s voice, though she did feel a little guilty. Her wife looked absolutely radiant even in the simple dress she wore; tall and beautiful and so much more. And yet, knowing what the slight swell of her wife’s belly meant, having to rely on her so much left Mireille wishing she could do more even though her wife could handle herself very well as it were. Though, right now her wife leading her to sit down on her plush chair near the kitchen. She couldn’t believe how amazingly peaceful and domestic this was. Her with her wife, and their unborn daughter, living happily together. And that would only further soon, once they had a much bigger house for themselves. The crew they’d travelled with had been kind enough to renovate a house the married couple had liked, making it easier for Mireille to move around in. It would be perfect. A nice, beautiful home to raise a family in, with all the space in the world to raise their hopefully many kids together.
“Here you go darling.” Risette’s voice snapped Mireille out of her thoughts, though not unpleasantly so. The full tray of food before her was a nice compliment too, with eggs and meats and fruits and some bread and cheese, as well as an herbal tea next to some juice. There was of course an array of tablets and two vials of medicine to accompany it, but Mireille was more than used to those. She was happy to see her wife with a similar plate too, eating a lot more to give all the nutrients to the baby on the way.
“Thank you, darling. It looks amazing,” Mireille’s voice held a hint of wonder at the spread before her. She didn’t know when Risette had become such an amazing chef, but amazing she was. Just as the flavours that rushed through her mouth as she took her first bite was amazing as well. And so was the one after that, and the one after that. She barely realised just how fast she was wolfing down her food, until the tray before her was cleaned completely. She felt a little embarrassed, but seeing just how happy Risette was to see her eating so well and enjoying her food so much, Mireille quickly shrugged that off, reaching over and squeezing her wife’s hand.
“I’m just happy you enjoyed it, dear,” Risette smiled softly, full of love for the woman beside her. The woman she lived for, whom she now called her wife and whose children she would soon have. It was perfect, beyond anything she could have imagined, and she couldn’t imagine any other life. She gently caressed her wife’s hand with her thumb, thinking of something that had become so dear to her.
“So, about the names we were thinking about…”
Notes:
this one was requested by bestie @witchoforigin!! she also writes really good yuri including granblue so check out her stuff too. i enjoyed writing this one a lot, writing a disabled character is nice, and giving her some similarities to myself is a little cathartic. overall i love these two so much, though i didn't get the chance to make mireille as much of a freak as she is unfortunately. maybe next time!!!!
as always check me out on twitter @mag_pye if you wanna
Chapter 8: (GBF) Blue Skies and Fluffy Clouds (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila takes Nier to meet her flock.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“See? Easy, just like that. She won’t run,” Anila’s voice was soft as she gently guided Nier’s hand to the sheep’s fleece. The poor girl’s hand was trembling, clearly not afraid of the fluffy animal in front of her, but more that it might run away. It was something Anila knew far too well. Even convincing her girlfriend to do this took a great deal of time and reassurance, no matter how much Nier wanted it herself. As much as she loved animals, everything in her life had drilled it into her again and again that she didn’t get to have that sort of love. That she was horrible and that things would always run away from her and leave her, and she would never have anything.
“Its so fluffy…” Nier’s voice was almost awestruck as her hand sunk into the sheep’s woollen coat, those thoughts being temporarily being banished from her mind as her fingers began to weave amongst the softness of the wool. It was like touching a cloud. The sheep let out a happy bleat, as if to signify agreement with both her words and her affection, especially as she reached her other hand up to pet its head. Anila beamed at her girlfriend, though the usually gloomy Nier was too engrossed with the task in front of her to notice. Though, seeing her so happy and focused was just another reason to smile. Anila shifted slightly, wrapping her arms around Nier’s waist.
Daisy likes you a lot. She’s not usually this friendly,” the smile was ever-noticeable in the way Anila spoke, so happy to see her beloved flock getting along well with her beloved partner. As cuddly as her flock often was, they weren’t usually fond of other people here, this private field of the lushest grass and prettiest wildflowers, but Daisy had clearly taken quite the liking to the girl currently showering her with affection.
“R..really? She likes me? I…” Nier’s voice was a mix of apprehension and joy, mulling over what she wanted to say. First the crew didn’t run, then the girl currently hugging her from behind didn’t and now this adorable sheep wasn’t running. It felt like more than she deserved. She was broken, wasn’t she? Things were supposed to run away from her. Her family, the people who said they cared, the animals she came across, even things like joy and love fled from her. As if to reassert her worries, the sheep she was petting gently shook of her hands, letting out a long bleat, and beginning to lower itself to the ground. Nier felt tears sting at her eyes, barely holding back a sob as she spoke, her throat feeling like it was closing up. “I..I messed it up again, didn’t I? I ruined it…”
Anila however, was grinning with joy and disbelief. She had got the memo that her sheep liked her partner, but this was something new. She got up on her tip-toes, giving Nier a kiss on the cheek as best she could in her excitement.
“Ruined it? No darl’, this is amazing!” Anila’s excitement was palpable as she stared up at the growing confusion on the much taller Erune’s face. “They like their cuddles and all, but actually laying down like this, opening the invite to rest together? I haven’t ever seen them doing this for anyone but me! Here, come on.”
Nier let out a small yelp as she was spun around and pulled down by her girlfriend’s strong arms, though she was of course caught. She found herself half laying on the ground, with her back resting against Daisy. The fluff behind her head was the comfiest pillow she’d ever felt, and she wasn’t sure how to react. She just felt happy. Especially with her hand being tightly held by her love.
“You mean, this is okay. But aren’t you their shepherd, and special to them? I’m just nothing, well I’m nothing,” there was unmistakable doubt and a sullen edge to her voice as Nier spoke, but at the same time, she wanted to believe this. That she could have a girlfriend, and that they could cuddle up under the sun, on the lushest grass she’d ever seen, cuddling with animals who liked her, enjoying the scent of the earth, and watching the clouds drift lazily in the sky and the patch of cornflowers in front of them sway in the light breeze. But she needed to know if she could have it. If she was allowed it.
“Well, I’m special to them, and you’re special to me. Only makes sense that you’d be special to them too,” Anila leaned over to cuddle her girlfriend a little as she spoke, only relaxing more as some other sheep in her flock came over to join the gentle atmosphere. This was beyond perfect, surrounded by fluffy comfort and more importantly, Nier. The girl she loved so so much. Sure, she was shy and still working through the motions of opening herself up, especially to affection, Nier was maybe the best thing to ever happen to the Divine General. “And well, if we’re all special for each other. I guess this makes this our special spot then too.”
“Our special spot… Just for us…” Nier ruminated on those words for a moment, before leaning in and holding her girlfriend close. She could really have this. She could have so many things, and it was beautiful. So for the first time in a very long time, she felt a surge of confidence, leaning down and lightly pressing her lips to Draph’s. They were so very soft, and they felt like heaven. They filled her with a feeling she couldn’t describe, as she found words that she never thought she’d get to say. “You’re special to me to. Like no-one else. I love you.”
“I love you too. And I can’t say how glad I am to hear that.” The girls cuddled closer together, occasionally trading soft pecks to their lips and cheeks as they watched the sky above. This time, happiness would not abandon Nier. Anila would make sure of it.

Chapter 9: (GBF) A Rare Moment (Djeeta/Lyria)
Summary:
Djeeta and Lyria finally get some time off for a date and intend to make the most of it.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You do really look pretty in that, y’know?” Djeeta’s voice was beyond genuine even as she said those words for about the 20th time today, her eyes full of unabashed adoration as she looked across the table at her girlfriend, propping her elbow up on the table to rest her cheek on her hand. A soft sigh escaped her lips, as she absentmindedly swirled her straw about in her drink with her other hand. She was truly caught up in the sight before her. Lyria look absolutely amazing like this, her long blue hair braided and falling over her shoulder, wearing a flowing white dress with an intricate silver inlay showing all kinds of flowers, and a thick black sash around her waist and a tan, waist-length jacket. Seeing Lyria’s cheeks grow a little rosy from the compliment and a small grin spread across her face only added to just how cute Djeeta found her right, the skyfarer making sure that this sight was well and truly burnt into her mind.
“Thanks… You look really beautiful too,” Lyria was beyond shy in this moment. Sure, her and Djeeta had travelled together for a around a decade now, growing closer day by day, but seeing her like this, in fancy white blouse and waist high pants with a thick belt, and her hair down for once with a hibiscus in her hair, she did truly look beautiful. Djeeta had complained about feeling too old wearing stuff like that, but it was hard to turn down an outfit suggestion from a group of people like Korwa, Chloe, and a few others who were interested in helping this little date along. Lyria would have to thank them after this for getting to see her girlfriend so dressed up.
“Stop it, you’re gonna make me blush. I’ve got a reputation as the great captain of the Grandcypher to maintain, and you’re totally going to ruin my image if you keep that up,” Djeeta tried to play it off as a joke, but it was clear to see just how flustered she was. She could go up against threats that could destroy the world, fight gods, do the impossible, and yet it only took five short words from the other girl to turn her into an embarrassed mess. As if perfectly on time to help her regain her focus, a waiter approached their table, carrying a rather oversized glass containing their mixed berry tapioca parfait. Lyria had barely been able to keep herself from drooling when reading its ingredients, so it seemed like a no-brainer to get it. It certainly looked delicious. They both gave their thanks to the waiter, before picking up their spoons.
“it’s so good!” It took a single spoonful to make her exclaim, her eyes lighting up bright as could be. She practically started shovelling it down, before sheepishly looking up at her girlfriend. Djeeta couldn’t help but laugh, before giving a nod.
“I don’t mind. It’s cute seeing how much you enjoy it,” Djeeta smile softly, barely onto her second spoonful. She was more than happy as Lyria began to dig in again, just happy to be spoiling her as much as she could. Besides, she didn’t mind eating at her own pace. It wasn’t that much longer til the whole thing was thoroughly gone, with the two girls reclining in their seats.
“That was soooo good! The way the berry juices soaked into the tapioca was just amazing, and the cream was so fresh!” The excitement and joy in Lyria’s voice was infectious, causing a wide smile to match on both their faces. It was just a perfect moment, Lyria continuing to gush whilst Djeeta just watched happily, so in love with her right now. The blonde woman reached across the table, taking her girlfriends, hands in her own before leaning in and kissing her.
“Sorry, you were just being so cute. I couldn’t help myself,” Djeeta did sound apologetic for what it was worth. She really just had to kiss her then. “We really should do this more often.”
“Yeah!” Lyria perked up again, clearly happy enough with the idea to break her out of what would have usually been a moment of shyness. She knew it wasn’t always easy with how busy they were, but the idea of more dates like this was perfect. “There’s so many places we could go to!”
“Mhm, yeah. Truth be told, I don’t mind too much either way. As long as we’re together,” the softness and love in Djeeta’s tone was palpable, knowing that she would always be happy with this girl beside her. Sure the crew was special, and she wanted to see her dad again, if only to punch him for all the pain he’d caused, but this was all she really needed. Lyria, and her love. She could win wars singlehandedly for her sake. Just as long as they were together.
“Of course. The one thing we’ll always have is each other. You can count on that,” Lyria’s voice softened to match, squeezing her girlfriend’s hands. She wanted to say more, but the words wouldn’t come out. Just having this moment, after a wonderful date, staring at each other so sweetly, was worth more than anything words could conjure. They would always be together, until the end of the skies, and with nothing to separate them.
After all, Lyria didn’t know about the velvet lined box and it’s shining contents that sat inside Djeeta’s pocket.

Chapter 10: (GBF) To The Victor... (Zeta/Beatrix
Summary:
Beatrix isn't too happy after losing another duel to Zeta
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Aw come on, you clearly cheated or something,” Beatrix pouted as she searched through the fridge for anything to eat. Duels could really work up an appetite, and especially after also taking the time to wash up after. She hungrily eyed the pack of cream-filled donuts on the second shelf, but upon feeling the eyes boring into the back of her head, sighed and picked up an apple instead. Those were meant to be for deserts, that had very much been stressed, She turned back to look at Embrasque propped in a chair, as if it would speak up and help her out.
“Cheating huh? That’s what you’re going with?” Zeta raised an eyebrow as she continued to polish Arvess. The spear probably didn’t need it, but it was just a routine at this point. She set it aside as Bea made her way over, still grumbling, and sat at the other end of the couch. Zeta scoffed, though she was glad to see her actually listen and have some fruit for once. With how much sweet food Beatrix ate, her girlfriend had started to worry. Despite her care, she couldn’t help but want to tease the brown-haired woman a little, not when she looked so pouty over it. “Don’t be so mad. Maybe one day you’ll be good enough to beat me, babe.”
Beatrix huffed, trying to seem annoyed as she took another bite out of the apple, but it was hard as Zeta slid across the couch and wrapped an arm around her waist, and leaned in, resting her head on her shoulder and softly breathing against her ear lobe.
“H..hey! No fair!” Bea protested this sudden show of affection, her cheeks flushing with gusto. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself down, but it only made everything else zone out about how nice Zeta’s arm around her felt, the feeling of the gentle puffs of air against her ear, and how good she smelt. It really was unfair, and Beatrix’s usual bravado was draining from her at a tremendous rate.
“Though who knows, when you get like this so easy? Maybe I do just have an unfair advantage,” Zeta’s voice was practically a whisper, though full of the confidence that she usually carried. Their little spar today had been quite intense, and teasing her girlfriend was the perfect way to wind down. She took the apple, holding it in front of Bea’s cheek for a moment with a smirk. “You know, its really hard to tell what’s more red right now; the apple, or your face.”
She tossed the apple to the side after that, landing it perfectly into a nearby bin. The less distractions right now, the better. For her of course. Bea was about to be as distracted as she could possibly be, as Zeta shifted in and pressed a kiss to the side of her neck, causing her to both shiver and jolt upright at once.
“Zeta, n..no fair… I mean it this time…” Beatrix didn’t know what else to say. She could barely think straight, turning her head to look at her blonde lover. She wanted to protest a little more, if only for her pride, but could hardly help herself as she felt a hand rest on her nape and draw into a long, deep, kiss, the kind that left her breathless. She practically just looked at Zeta with wide eyes, barely noticing as she was lowered onto her back little by little.
“Hey, don’t be going complaining like that. You lost fair and square,” her voice was practically chiding as Zeta slowly let her hand fall to Bea’s hip, now fully hovering over the now supine Beatrix. She was so very pretty like this; hair splayed out, and that adorable look on her face contrasting just how well built she was with that singlet showing off those muscles of hers. Bea was beautiful in a battle, certainly, but this side was just attractive in its own way. Zeta couldn’t stop herself from pressing another kiss to her partner’s lips. “And you know you know what they say.”
She pressed another kiss to Bea’s lips, then her face, her noise, her cheek, her jaw, the edge of her lip, her neck, her collarbone, everywhere she could reach.
“To the victor go the spoils.”
For the first time in her life, Beatrix thought that maybe losing wasn’t so bad after all.

Chapter 11: (GBF) Lazy Day (Tefnut/Payila)
Summary:
In a completely coincidental bout of bad weather, Payila and Tefnut find the perfect chance to relax.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“What lovely weather today,” Tefnut spoke with a yawn as she stretched out slightly. Thunder rumbled outside, accompanying the sound of pouring rain. She truly meant those words, more than happy for an excuse to laze about for a while. This couch was more than comfortable, beyond luxurious even, all thanks to the woman she was sharing a room with currently.
“I don’t see what you mean. Such a shame for it to rain today,” Payila was still in bed as she spoke, cuddling up to a to a plush effigy of a certain golden dragon ever since Tefnut had gotten up. The misfortune of having a storm hit on a day when she had so much to do was just too cruel, truly. How could she go out in such weather? It wasn’t like she was using her power over storms to slack off from her duties today, that would simply be outrageous. She was a Divine General, and definitely not one who had been scolded so much by her other partner to the point a daily schedule of work to do before she was allowed to slack again. “Just when I had so many things I planned to do.”
“Ah yes, my apologies dear,” a smirk adorned Tefnut’s face as she spoke, knowingly perfectly well how sincere those words were. She took a sip of the sahlab Payila’s shikigami had prepared earlier, marvelling at just how perfect it was. They sure were helpful, and certainly made this lifestyle easier. “You seem positively troubled.”
Payila gave a small hum of affirmation, sighing at the comfort surrounding her. She lied there for a while, maybe drifting off again in the process, but she wasn’t sure. Though eventually she raised her head, noticing an extreme, catastrophic problem with the current situation; the bed was getting a little cold. She shivered, more at the realisation then anything. This was a horrible fate, with Tefnut so very far away on a couch a few metres on the bed. She had to be courageous at times, the Draph regretfully acknowledged, slowly pushing herself up.
“I suppose I should at least do something today…” Payila’s words were mumbled as she slowly stood, annoyed at having to do so much when she had done everything in her power to ensure today would not have to be like that. “Besides, Indy can’t be too mad at me if I do something today.”
“Yes, yes, I suppose you’re right,” Tefnut watched with a smile as her girlfriend already worked on preparing a defence for when their partner got back from her business trip, amused at the sight. It was beyond amusing, how she could look so regal and beautiful at times, and then like such a cute mess at others. Tefnut shifted on the couch slightly as Payila moved towards her, not minding one bit as she felt the other woman’s weight fall atop her. Her voice was practically a coo, as she brought her hand up to run through Payila’s hair in an effort to soothe her after such exertion. “There we go, such a hard worker.”
“Indeed,” there was a slight huff to her voice as Payila spoke, relaxing into the comfort and warmth the couch and Tefnut both provided. This was far better than being alone on a bed, that was for sure. Payila lifted a hand to rest on the Diviner’s cheek, looking at her fondly. “And now I can proceed with my true task today.”
“Is that so?” Tefnut’s voice was playful, her eyebrow raising slightly at those words. That was the sort of thing she was more than happy to hear. “And what might that be, dearest Payila?”
“Well, it’s quite simple,” Payila leant in and kissed her partner, her hand tracing long her immaculate face whilst her other went to rest on the curve of her hip. The storm outside heightened its intensity ever so slightly, as if reacting to the intense gleam now present in the eyes of the one controlling it. “I simply have to admire one of the finest treasures in my collection.”
Payila leant in, kissing her again, her hand tracing languidly along Tefnut’s side. She was so very beautiful, and Payila simply had to have things that beautiful.
“Then admire away,” Tefnut’s voice was flirtation embodied as she let her hands fall down to her sides. It was perfect, allowing her lover to admire freely, whilst also requiring the minimal amount of effort. Those thoughts continued until Payila leaned down, but instead of kissing her again, simply rested her ahead against Tefnut’s shoulder.
“Of course, Nu,” the dragon-woman spoke, trying to maintain the seductive edge to her tone, though it was quickly fading as she just wanted to relax and cuddle again. There could be plenty of kissing and admiring without all the effort her previous thoughts required, she decided. It was her day to laze about, and it’d be better if they waited for Indy anyway.
And so came the final verdict:
“Just give me five minutes first.”
Notes:
this one was fun!!! like payila a lot so really enjoyed writing her especially, as well as the minor guest star from galleon plushie. these two need their girlfriend to do literally anything when put together, and y'know what that's kinda peak. will maybe write all 3 of them at some point, though it'd be hard to write three characters properly in this format, so probably its own thing. also like try sahlab if you haven't, its so good!! was gonna use kharob instead cause they're both crazy good drinks
anyways, @mag_pye on twitter still, i love yuri
Chapter 12: (GBF) A Perfect Moment (Djeeta/Lyria)
Summary:
Djeeta and Lyria take a walk through a familiar orchard on their date.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Lyria hummed softly as Djeeta and her walked through the orchard hand-in-hand, a spring of peace and happiness welling up inside her. She was a little exhausted, having been whisked around from island to island today by Djeeta, but at the same time was just so grateful to have this time just between them. And being back on Zinkenstill felt nice. She considered just as much as a home as the Grandcypher, and in those moments where she’d get lost in thought, it was always where she envisioned her future to be. After their journey was done, living in Djeeta’s family home together, getting to grow old side by side, and maybe, just maybe, one day having a family of their own. Lyria was more than happy with the idea, but knew it both terrified and excited her to no end.
For as radiant as she was, Djeeta was so scared she’d end up like her father, hurting her child beyond belief. It was something she’d confided to Lyria before, crying in the blue-haired girl’s arms for comfort. And yet, Lyria also knew part of her captain didn’t want anything else; she could feel it in her very soul. Djeeta just wanted to give them the childhood they deserved, the one that had been dashed to pieces for her the day that man left. And Lyria was more than happy to be by her side through it all. But then again, surrounded in this serene spot, nothing but her and her beautiful girlfriend, Lyria wanted to just sink into the moment right now.
“Everyone back in town was awfully excited to see you today,” she smiled up at Djeeta, her voice soft after her previous thoughts. It had been a little strange though. Sure they always got a warm welcome, especially now as pretty much everyone in the skies knew who Djeeta was, but it was as if the very air was brimming with excitement earlier, with the two of them getting mob by so many people with smiles and almost knowing looks. Lyria was half certain that if she wasn’t holding Djeeta’s hand, she might’ve been swept away by the tide. “I almost feel bad for taking you away all by myself. “
“Don’t feel bad. Today is just for us,” although she knew Lyria was only teasing, Djeeta just had to shut that thought down. She couldn’t believe how nervous she felt as they walked through this place that held so many memories for them, doing all she could to keep her hands from shaking. She did at least get to steady herself as she slowed to a stop, looking around the small clearing. It had once been a lot denser, with the only real signs of what had happened be a trench in the ground from a crash landing and some claw marks on some of the trees. “You know where we are, right?”
“Of course,” Lyria had figured out this is probably where they were headed the moment they stepped into the orchard. After all, how could she not with just how special it was? It was the perfect way to finish this date, she thought. Right back where it all started. “This is where we met, where you fought and where our souls were linked forever. And then we came back and did most of it again.”
Lyria smiled, a playful edge in her voice at that last point. Sure it had been a special moment, but what were the odds that years after meeting they’d have to fight another hydra here, even if it wasn’t exactly real? She looked around the orchard, sighing softly. This just felt perfect. She was comfortable to enjoy the moment, but grew ever so slightly worried as her Djeeta, usually so talkative and charming, didn’t respond to her words at all.
“Djeeta? Are you o-“ Lyria’s words fell into silence, an awful feeling of worry clawing up her throat as she turned and saw tears streaming down Djeeta’s face. She reached up, immediately cupping her girlfriend’s cheeks and wiping away the tears. “What’s wrong?’
“N..nothing’s wrong,” Djeeta managed to choke out the words after a few attempts. They did little to soothe the other girl’s worries though, leaving Lyria unconvinced that things were okay as her lover cried so heavily. That was until, she felt herself pulled into a tight hug, and a warm kiss. Her eyes drifted shut, only opening again as Djeeta spoke, still choked with tears, but also a face adorned with the largest smile Lyria had ever seen. She was clearly nervous, but Lyria thought that smile was maybe the most beautiful thing in the world. “I just… I just love you so much.”
“I love you too, alright?” Lyria returned the hug, gently rubbing soothing circles on her girlfriend’s back as she spoke softly, trying to ease. “You know that.”
“I know, but I just, I really do! You’re my everything. You’ve been with me, by my side, and in my arms for so many years now, and I need you. I can’t imagine being without you. Your smile, your laugh, how pretty you look when you wake up and do that cute little yawn, how much you care, how sweet you are, it’s my world.” Djeeta took a deep breath, trying to compose herself a little as tears continued to fall. “We’ve been through so much, and you’ve always been so happy. I know that if you’re there by my side, no matter what, we’ll make it through, because you give me so much. And yet, I just want to ask something more of you.”
“What is it?” Lyria’s voice was gently prompting, though slightly stunned by that outburst of emotions. She felt warm beyond belief, especially as those words settled in her mind. Here they were, where it started, with Djeeta so happily talking about how much she loved her whilst clearly being so overwhelmed. She had to know what this was about. It couldn’t be what her mind was picturing right? That same thing she had dreamt of so many times.
“Lyria,” her voice was soft as Djeeta slowly began to lower herself to one knee, reaching into her pocket and producing a small box as she did. Lyria was struggling not to cry now too. This had to be a dream. It was far too perfect. It was everything she’d ever fantasised about. The words she’d been wanting to hear for so long. It took barely anytime for Lyria to fall for Djeeta, but then it had taken a couple of years to get together, and now, years later they’d get to affirm it would always be that way, with just those sweet, sacred words:
“Will you marry me?”
Notes:
akfafghsfja i love them so much they're so cute!!! got a little emotional cause idk i just get very happy over like happy endings for gay women, and like, djeeta and lyria are such good characters. if it wasn't obvious, will def be continuing this, make a little trilogy, even if i fics are starting to get longer. still am working on a larger one of a ship i haven't written here yet though!! but hope you enjoyed!!! oh also if it wasn't obvious, i think of them in this and the djeetalyria before this as aged up a decent chunk, like early-mid 20s, whereas in first one of them was probably late teens.
as always am at @mag_pye on twitter, come talk or give like reccomendations for ships to write im more than happy with it
Chapter 13: (GBF) For you (Song/Silva)
Summary:
Tweyen tends to Silva after a night of drinking.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Mhm, Tweyen. Tweeeeyyeeeennnnnn…. “ Silva mumbled, her face buried in a pillow. She’d been outright drinking again, and as she was privy to on occasion, had maybe had a few too many. Even as her girlfriend’s fingers carded through her hair, she was completely out of it. She let out a confused hum as she felt herself being rolled on her side to prevent the chance of suffocating on the pillow. Her eyes remained closed, on the verge of passing out after having drank so much.
“Shh, it’s okay. I’m here, Sil,” Tweyen’s voice was ever so tender, even if part of her did want to laugh at just how adorable seeing Silva like this. A hardened sniper, mumbling and confused and just wanting her girlfriend. It was the best feeling in the world, really. To be wanted so much, especially by someone Tweyen loved so dearly. She was all the more happy as Silva’s eyes opened ever so slightly, as if making sure it really was the right woman above.
“You look… realllllyyyy pretty. Love you sho mugch,” the drunken ramblings from Silva didn’t cease as she was slowly tucked into bed by her partner. Her mind felt so very fuzzy; it was like the only clear thing in the world was Tweyen, and honestly, Silva didn’t mind that idea one bit.
“Love you too, dear. Of course I do. But you should really get some rest, alright?” Tweyen kept her words soft and caring, wanting to ease her lover into a nice long rest to sleep off all the alcohol in her system. She sat beside Silva on the bed, still stroking her hair sweetly.
“Nyooooo… don’t wanna go to bed. Wanna be with you,” Silva shifted closer as she protested the idea of sleeping, wanting nothing more than to be close to Tweyen right now. She was beyond clingy when drunk, barely wanting to be separated from the other woman at all. “I’m sho lucky to have you.”
“Me too, Sil. You’re my everything.” Her heart felt like it was going to melt as Tweyen heard those words. Silva was far too cute while drunk. It wasn’t fair at all, how she could say such sweet things whilst barely being conscious. But Tweyen loved them. Every little mumble, and every drunken confession. It just made her so unbelievably happy. “But you really need to get some rest okay. For me. I’ll be right here the whole time, anyway.”
“Okay…” Silva finally relented. If Tweyen was going to be next to her, then maybe a little sleep couldn’t hurt. She let here eyes close again, moving closer to Tweyen again. “For you.”
“Goodnight, dear,” Tweyen leant down and gave her girlfriend a gentle kiss on the forehead. She waited a moment for a response, but all that came was a soft snore. She really did need the rest. Tweyen smiled, crawling underneath the sheets beside Silva and wrapping her arms around her. Even unconsciously, Silva wanted nothing more than to do the same, drawing the Eternal into a tight embrace to last them through the night.

Chapter 14: (GBF) Sharing a Dance (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila decides to teach Nier how to dance.

Chapter Text
“Just like that, you’re doing great,” Anila smiled up at Nier as they swayed in time to the melody of the music box. Nier seemed like she barely registered the words, her brow furrowed, her lips focused, her eyes in absolute concentration as a bead of sweat trickled down her forehead. It was a little cute honestly. She was so, so focused on getting this down correctly, it was as if the rest of the world had faded away. Her hands were gripping Anila’s shoulder and hand a little whilst they waltzed, by the Draph didn’t mind. Occasionally, at little parties on the ship, Anila had noticed Nier gaze with a certain wistfulness as people took their partners into their arms and danced away, but had always refused to do the same when Anila held her hand out and offered. But she had a strong feeling she knew what Nier wanted, and also knew she was not the type to ask. So, she’d bought this music box, and found the right time for it. Away from everyone’s eyes, which Anila could tell her girlfriend appreciated.
Eventually, the soft twinkling reached its conclusion, though not after Anila found her toes stepped on a few times, which were followed by profuse apologies into gentle shushes and reassurances. Anila let her eyes open, having been lost in the moment as the song neared its end, and tilted her head up to gaze lovingly up at Nier. She was met with a sight that made Anila just want to wrap Nier up in her arms and hold her til the end of time. There the Erune was, smiling down at Anila, with tears in her eyes. The shorter woman didn’t even get the chance to hug her partner as planned, instead finding herself pulled in close in a tight embrace. Anila was quick to return it of course, happy to bask in what was becoming a thankfully more common act of Nier being willing to openly share her affection.
“Thank you so much. I’ve always wanted to dance like that with someone,” Nier reached up to wipe away some of the tears now staining her cheeks, her voice a stunned but happy whisper. This felt like a dream come true. All her life, she’d just wanted someone to love. To do things like this with her. To say the good mornings and good nights and the I love yous and to hold her close and to just care for her, and here it was. Not with the family who had treated her so cruelly, or any of the other people who mistreated so cruelly, or even with Djeeta like she used to think. It was here, all the love she could ever need condensed in a small package. She had a girlfriend who loved her enough to pick up on the small unspoken details and teach her how to dance without being said. It was perfect. “You’re so kind to me and sweet and patient, and I don’t know how you do it. I’ve always been such a mess, but you’re always there, and I love you so much. You…”
Nier took a deep breath to slow the happy tears. Nier forgot she was capable of those sometimes, but they felt so amazing. Like the world was falling into place. And with a loving squeeze from Anila, she managed to get the last words she needed out.
“You make me feel like a person.”
Those words caught Anila a little off guard, but only caused her to put near every ounce of strength into hugging Nier as tight as she could without hurting her. It was a mix of protectiveness, love, and happiness. To know that this girl she loved so very dearly had suffered for so long made Anila just want to wrap her up in her arms and keep her safe from it ever happening again, but she was also so unbelievably happy to have helped her partner so much.
“I’m glad to hear that. You should never have felt like you weren’t, but I promise you, you’ll get experience all this good stuff, Nier. I’ll show you all those things you never got to see, because I love you too. You’re not just any old person; you’re the most important one in my life,” Anila ended her small promise by using her strength to pull Nier down into a kiss. It held for a few moments, before Anila pulled away and let Nier stand again. She could see just how happy the other woman was, cheeks red, a giddy look in her eyes, and widest smile she’d ever seen on her. It was an amazing sight, and one the Erune would have thought unthinkable of herself some time ago. Just her, simply and purely happy. Anila wished she could capture it the image, if only to go back in time to show those truly awful parents of hers just how amazing of a woman their daughter had become, even if they never saw her for her. But they weren’t important right now. What mattered, was keeping that radiant smile on Nier’s face as long as possible, and she figured a simple way to do that. Anila pulled back from the hug with an exaggerated bow, and a kiss to Nier’s hand.
“And might I interest you in another dance, fine lady?” It was a little absurd, to the point Anila couldn’t help giggling slightly herself, but the offer was quickly accepted. They had no need for the music box’s melody anymore, as their laughter and loving words that would last long into the night fuelled their hearts and steps better than any tune ever could. Because there they were, happy and in love, and right now, that was all that mattered.

Chapter 15: (GBF) A Helping Hand (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila helps Nier with her injection.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You doing okay?” Anila asked gently as she wiped down Nier’s thigh with an alcohol wipe, making sure to be firm enough to clean the area properly. Nier took a moment to respond, hugging a pillow closely and anxious as ever. Her ears flicked softly as she envisioned what was to come. It was necessary, and it had helped so much, but it didn’t mean she had to enjoy it in the moment.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” Nier managed a nod and small smile, thought it was clearly just a front. She wasn’t sure where it had came from, but she had discovered she wasn’t a fan of needles. She can’t imagine how it’d be if she didn’t have someone helping her along, especially someone as sweet and patient as her girlfriend, who had started to gently run a hand through Nier’s hair and gently rub the base of her ear to soothe her nerves. It did its just, helping her relax as a comforting warmth seemed to spread through her body from Anila’s affection. Nier knew she still had a few moments while the alcohol dried, leaving her enough time to rest her head on Anila’s shoulder, enjoying how warm she was and how nice she smelt to gently take her mind off of this. It reminded of her a comforting meadow, and Nier made a mental note to ask Anila if they could take another visit to hers soon.
“Alright, it’s ready,” Anila’s voice roused Nier from her happy thoughts, and she immediately felt the anxiety creep back up again as she watched the other woman take the cap of the needle and hold the syringe. She tried her best to keep her breathing under control, not wanting to panic like she had the first few times after she’d moved to injections. It was completely irrational, she knew it, but that didn’t help her right now.
“G..go ahead,” her voice was practically a squeak as Nier managed a rapid nod, already squeezing the pillow tight as she could. She could picture it going in, and that small moment where she could see a syringe close enough to know there was a needle in her skin. Her estrogen injections weren’t as bad as blood tests, but it didn’t stop her brain from associating them with each other. She felt panic welling, and just tried her best to stay still, until she practically froze. Anila’s hand cupped her cheek, and it sent all those bad thoughts and feelings far away, causing her to loosen her grip on the pillow. It was a little confusing just how good Anila was at easing Nier’s worries and stresses, but both women were ever grateful for it.
“Deep breaths. It’ll be okay,” Nier couldn’t help but watch that gentle smile with love, nodding half in a daze from the conflicting emotions that kept coming and going in the past few minutes. She noticed immediately as the hand left her cheek to instead squeeze her thigh to prepare for the injection. Nier let her eyes closed, just trusting in Anila for the moment. The Draph really was too perfect, and the residual comfort from her touch masked the tiny sting as the needle sunk into Nier’s skin which she had been dreading so much. She only felt her eyes open as she felt a small kiss on her cheek, as Anila brought a gauze pad down to apply pressure to where the needle had been moment ago. Nier hadn’t had an injection go so well before.
“You did so well today!” Anila sounded so proud and loving as she removed the pad after a few seconds, promptly disposing of the syringe into a sharps container and covering the injection site with a small bandaid, whilst the second comfort came in the form of another kiss on Nier’s cheek. As Anila rolled her girlfriend’s skirt back down, she removed the pillow from Nier’s arms to instead take its place. “That’s my pretty girl.”
“Mhm, yeah, your pretty girl,” Nier felt so warm and soft and bubbly and happy at those words. She would’ve doubted that she could be either of those things at some point, but all the love she had been privy to recently had eschewed those thoughts. She was pretty, and a girl, and had an amazing girlfriend who loved her and who she loved. Her mind went back to her younger self for a moment, and remembered how scared and hurt she’d been, and smiled softly despite the grief. At least now, that little girl could be happy, and be who she truly was. A pretty girl with a happy life, even if there were hiccups occasionally. Nier leaned in and kissed Anila as they began to lay down to cuddle. This was perfect.

Chapter 16: (GBF) Sleepless Nights (Orchis/Apollo/Orchid)
Summary:
Freshly reunited with Orchis, Apollo struggles to deal with a new life once more.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Orchis yawned, groggily blinking to open her eyes. It was still the middle of the night, and she still had an arm over the sleeping Orchid, but something wasn’t right. There was the lack of a certain warmth, a weight upon the bed missing, and the absence of a strong arm holding both women tight. It caused Orchis to sit up, making sure to do so in such a manner as to not wake her sleeping partner, and look around the room for Apollo. Eventually her eyes settled on the open door to their balcony, with curtains billowing in the wind, and Orchis sighed, slowly pulling on some slippers.
Apollo stared out over Mephorash, her eyes unfocused as she took in so many sweeping dunes and the cityscape at knight, and yet she registered so little of it. Her mind was elsewhere. It was on so many battlefields at once, reliving so many wars. It heard the countless screams of so, so many people who had cut down by her blade, the backing noise to her personal crusade. She’d killed strong people, evil people, mercenaries, soldiers, warriors, and bandits. But most of all, she had killed so many people who didn’t deserve it. People with families, people trying to protect what little they had, but that hadn’t stop the Black Knight who stood against them, slicing them down and pushing on. Apollo had told herself it was all worth it, and it was. It gave her her Orchis back, and her Orchid too, but it meant she could never truly be free from those, or the blood upon her hands. She had done so many terrible things for her love, cost other people so much, she was a monst-
“Everything alright?” Orchis’ voice cleaved through Apollo’s thoughts in an instant, bringing her back to the real world. Orchis had planned to act a little grumpy, maybe a little playful too, but the way Apollo was shaking ever so slightly, and how she was gripping the balcony so tight her knuckles were growing white, the new Queen of Erste had decided it was probably the time for a softer, more concerned approach. Apollo let out a sigh, still staring out over Mephorash.
“I’m fine. Just… some memories, is all,” Apollo wanted to turn and face her… queen? Girlfriend? Partner? She didn’t know what Orchis was to her in terms like that, as they all felt like too little. She still carried the ring Orchis had given her when they were children, swearing that she’d make Apollo her king, but Apollo wasn’t sure if the much shorter girl still thought of that in a way that would allow Apollo to call Orchis her fiancée. Either way, she felt her grip loosen on the balcony. Just having Orchis near her made her feel better.
“I see,” Orchis walked up to stand by Apollo’s side, reaching to rest her hand over the other woman’s. Thankfully, she found her hand quickly held tight in response, a small gesture of love. Orchis had heard many things about what Apollo had done as the Black Knight, and she was worried about her. It couldn’t be good for her, living with all that, and Orchis knew she couldn’t blame her love. So, the now-queen simply had to do her best to relieve that pain a little. “You can talk to me, you know that.”
“I do,” Apollo’s voice was quiet, taking a moment to look down at Orchis, then over her shoulder to the still slumbering Orchid, who was beginning to curl up in her sleep with the absence of her lovers’ embraces. She was beyond cute, even now. It helped ground Apollo a little more, and let her be as honest as she could in the moment. “But just not right now. Please.”
Orchis nodded, getting the memo. Apollo didn’t want to return to sleep, in case those nightmares found her again, but she didn’t want to think about those things she’d done. And so Orchis didn’t press any further. What she did, is point up at the stars, and just talk. About everything she could think of. Anything really. And nothing, all at once. Apollo nodded, letting the small talk distract her, her mind drifting to the halcyon days they shared together in their youth. All the talk of stars, and the city, and all those other simple topics brought Apollo back to her days of running through the streets at Orchis’ insistence, before returning to the palace where Orchis would collapse next to her as Apollo read aloud all sorts of interesting information about whatever topic caught her interest at the time from some textbook. It was enough to elicit a smile from the woman.
But it was still late, and Orchis was still tired. Eventually, a yawn escaped her lips, and Apollo looked down with a gentle look in her eyes. The least she could do after everything was ensure her Orchis was healthy and happy.
“You should get some rest, my queen,” Apollo’s voice was slightly urging, though driven by concern. She looked down, but rather than finding the adorable sight of Orchis rubbing her eyes sleepily which she’d seen countless times before, she instead saw a dissatisfied look with an eyebrow raised. It took her a second to realise what her lover was requesting, until it hit her. “And, I’ll join you, of course.”
“Of course. We couldn’t very well keep our precious flower waiting, either” a smile crossed Orchis’ face as Apollo acquiesced to her unspoken request. She kept her grip on the knight’s hand as she led her back to the bed, towards where Orchid had managed to turn herself into a rather perfect ball without any affection to keep her lying down properly. As they reached the edge of the bed, getting ready to climb back in, Orchis added one last thing, just to make sure those bad thoughts would leave her sweet Apollo alone for a while. “Besides, Erste’s future king deserves a royal sleep for herself too.”
Apollo froze up, her cheeks blushing as she was pulled to lie down, with Orchis hugging her and the unconscious Orchid curling up against her side near instantly. Orchis remembered that… and she still felt like it. Apollo didn’t know how to feel, completely overwhelmed. The fearsome Black Knight, reduced back to that blushing young girl with a few simple words. She barely managed to mumble out a goodnight in response to Orchis saying it first, her head feeling fuzzy as she began to drift off, with an odd sense of happiness.
And for what it was worth, it was the best sleep she’d had in a decade.

Chapter 17: (GBF) Peaceful Nights (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Vira contemplates the future in a moment of rest with her beloved Katalina.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Vira flipped to the next page of her book, a thoughtful yet intense focus on her face as she read about as she read about various cuisines from across the skies, their intricacies, and their meanings and connotations should they have any. She had half the mind to take notes for her own cooking, but figured that would go against the idea of leisure. Besides, she didn’t want to make any noise right now, lest she distract her beloved Katalina sitting next to her, who on the contrary was jotting away as she read about various sword types and famous examples and smiths of each. It was near the only sound falling upon the central citadel of Albion in a rare moment of peacefulness; the sun had set, the students and soldiers had retired for the evening, and there was little happening outside of the soft pattering of rain. Vira smiled, happy to see the love of her life finally spending some time on her hobbies outside of just practicing her swordsmanship.
Vira knew it had been rough on her beloved, having the crew separate after everything. They had become her family too, especially Lyria. That blue-haired girl had become something of a little sister to Katalina, and by virtue of that, had endeared herself to Vira too. She was glad she kept in touch via writing, as even though Djeeta was sure to take care of her wife, Vira knew her dearest would still stress if she didn’t receive updates. It made Vira think about her and Katalina’s future. They were together, happily married themselves. They’d hardly had an engagement, as after everything, it felt redundant. But now, they had to deal with normal life. Vira was still Lord Commander of Albion, and Katalina had been brushing up on her teaching to hopefully help the next generation of knights. With her credentials, it would hardly been an issue, and Vira knew the Academy was already considering making her the head professor of combat.
But that left Vira. She reached over to find her lover’s hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. Katalina didn’t look up, too engrossed at the moment, but she needn’t have to. The love was there in that gentle squeeze by a hand so calloused and hardened from battle that there needn’t be words, or even a glance. Besides, Vira was doing enough looking for the both, peering over the top of her book to admire her Katalina, in simple wear and oh so focused and just, happy. That was what she wanted to see more of. To be her daily life. But she was Lord Commander, and that meant she had nary a moment for herself, let alone for her love, and it pained her so to be so close to her Katalina without ever really getting to be together. Even the halls were too big for Vira’s liking. She wanted a home, without knights or servants or guards. A place just for them. And the only way that could happen was by relinquishing her title, and with it Luminieria. The effects of actively ending a pact were unknown, but Vira was certain it wouldn’t be easy. She’d have to broach the topic with her beloved sometime, preferably soon.
As if her wife’s swirling thoughts, Katalina reached over and squeeze her hand. It caused Vira to jolt slightly, as they both looked up to meet each other’s gaze. Katalina raised an eyebrow, a silent check in, which was answered by a simple shake of the head. It was enough to reassure her, and the care was enough to make Vira smile softly, which was quickly echoed by her beloved. There was still no need for words; a smile, and another squeeze of their hands took the place of declarations of love, and it was enough for them. Katalina gave one last small look to make sure her Vira was okay, before slipping her hand away to return to her reading and writing. Vira knew she should consider bringing up her thoughts now, but she dismissed that idea. She returned to her book, though not without the occasional glance to her wife, which was returned with a smile at least a few times. Her ambitions of the perfect life could wait, for this was all they could ever need right now.

Chapter 18: (GBF) The Auguste Moving Experience (Meg/Mari)
Summary:
Meg and Mari move into their new home.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Just a little further to the left,” Mari called from the newly placed dining table as Meg carried the couch to the desired spot single-handedly. It was big enough for five people, and must have weighed well over 100kg, yet the maroon-haired girl carried it with ease. Mari had initially offered to help move everything, but Meg had insisted to do it alone, to give Mari a well-earned break after finding them such a nice house, and perfectly picking out and drawing up arrangements for the furniture. Mari had of course protested, wanting this monumental piece of their future to be shared, until she saw Meg lift that cabinet, and the way those muscles rippled and flexed all over. God, they really needed to bring the bed in soon. “That’s perfect!”
Meg promptly placed the chair down, knowing just how perfect Mari wanted it to be. She stood up and stretched, something eagerly watched by her fiancée who had practically forgotten her drink at the sight before her, her Meg all sweaty and now flexing those muscles that had worked so hard for their blissful future. Mari thought those two things would make a fine meal and drink soon enough to replace the one in front of her.
“All done. That was the last thing for the lounge room, right?” Meg beamed happily, having finished her stretches and oblivious to the hungry look that was practically devouring her in in her lover’s eyes. She’d moved in 4 cabinets, 2 sofas, 2 recliners, a couple of display units, the dining table and chairs, the lamps, and all the little trinkets and decorations in the last 20 or so minutes, and was happy to lend a helping hand.
“Mhm! Two rooms down, six to go!” Mari got up, making her way over to the love of her life and throwing her arms loosely around her neck, tilting her head up to look at Meg. What a lucky woman she was, to have this beautiful, amazing woman by her side, the woman who had saved her life multiple times, and the woman who she’d be married to in just a couple of months now. She couldn’t stop herself from leaning up and pressing a long, loving kiss to her lover’s lips, just so so happy in this moment. They had everything they could ever really need, the perfect house on the perfect island and soon to be the perfect marriage. It was hard not to be overjoyed in every waking moment. Mari let her hand slide down from the hug to instead take Meg’s hand, pulling her towards the newly placed couch. “C’mon, you’ve earned a break.”
Meg just nodded rapidly, her cheeks bright red and her lips still slightly parted. All this time together, and she still couldn’t help it every time Mari kissed her, or complimented her, or squeezed her hand, or anywhere else the Erune’s hands found themselves drifting when they were cuddling. She promptly joined Mari on the couch, sitting up perfectly straight and gripping Mari’s hand tightly. She only shifted slightly as Mari began to lean on her, making sure to relax a little to make herself into a more comfortable pillow.
“You’ve been working so hard today,” Mari practically purred as she leaned in more, moving to press a kiss to Meg’s jaw. They both knew the work had only just started, but any excuse to enjoy her fiancée like this was welcome. She moved to straddle Meg’s lap, pressing a few kisses here and there before smiling up at the still flustered woman. “I think you’ve earned a reward.”
It took a moment for Meg to register exactly what that meant, but she somehow grew redder when that realisation hit. They still had stuff to do, but she also didn’t want to upset Mari. Besides, it was hard not to be distracted by having someone as wonderful as Mari on her lap. She swallowed, trying to stay focused as hard as it was.
“Mari! We still have so much to bring in,” Meg tried reminding her partner of their current situation, only to be met with a flurry of kisses across her face and a small laugh.
“Don’t care,” Mari really didn’t, letting her hands fall to Meg’s hips as she continued kissing her all over. Moving in to their new home was important, especially for her future, but Meg was always priority number one.
“It’s just sitting out there on the street. Someone could take it or… or…” Meg couldn’t even finish her protests, getting way too overwhelmed by her fiancée’s kisses and the grip upon her. Whether she wanted to or not, her own hands came to hold Mari closer as she was pushed back into the couch.
“Like I said, don’t care,” Mari leant in and pressed a kiss to Meg’s neck, before following it up with a small bite. Maybe that zombie virus had longer lasting effects, cause she was starting to think there was nothing better than that. Meg seemed to agree, closing her eyes and biting her lip a little.
“Mari…” Any and all protests had died on Meg’s tongue, more than happy with what was to come. She should have brought the bed in first.

Chapter 19: (GBF) Flowers on the Hill (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Vira makes her way to watch the sunset at that precious place with her Katalina. (MSQ Spoilers!!)
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Vira sighed, pushing herself up the hill to the oak tree where she knew her Katalina was waiting. It was harder, with how she was now. After what had happened, it was like Luminieria had stopped listening fully, and with it, so had parts of her body. Either that, or maybe Vira had stopped listening to her companion. No matter. She held the bouquet of flowers tightly to her chest as she continued, reminiscing upon all the memories they’d shared with each other. It was their special spot, truly. There had been so much laughter and joy and love shared beneath the boughs of that tree, it wasn’t a surprise a small smile crept upon the Lord Commander’s face. At long last, she reached the crest of the hill, and her eyes fell upon her beloved Katalina resting by the trunk, overlooking the whole of Albion.
“Hello, my darling,” Vira smiled wistfully, resting a hand upon the headstone of her beloved Katalina. The sun was setting, casting a beautiful light over the scene, as Vira slowly lowered herself to sit beside the grave. Perhaps it was improper, but she had leant upon her love here so many times, and she would not let that change. She made sure not to disrupt the flowers those three had left with their guardian on the way to their home, and laid her third bouquet of lilies in three days upon the grave with a reverent tenderness. “There. Now you needn’t be lonely any longer. I’ll always be here for you, my dear.”
The smile on Vira’s face stayed, but it didn’t stop the tears. Nothing could. She would cry here by her Katalina’s grave, and struggle back to the citadel, where she’d sob for hours on end. It had become her routine. Her life, once filled with so many colours, had turned so dull and grey again, just like before Katalina had saved her from herself all those years ago. All that remained was the fading azure of her light and the soft brownness of her eyes in Vira’s memories.
“I should have been there,” Vira murmured, leaning back against the tree. “I should have protected you, or at least died by your side.”
Vira didn’t bother wiping away the tears. She’d given up hope on that days ago. She felt like a hole had been punched straight through her, and torn out her happiness and hope. The only time she felt something was by this grave, and all it was was pain and longing.
“But its okay. I will never leave you again,” the blonde woman, so alone in the world for the first time in so long, meant those words with every ounce of her being. Her world was nothing but her Katalina, which meant this hill was all she had left. She could nary fathom bringing up a blade anymore, seeing it as futile without having the one she’d sworn it to. “I love you, Katalina.”
Her words were met silence, only broken by the occasional gust of wind through the leaves above. Vira knew she should go, with her body weakening as her and Luminieria’s bond began to break from the grief and apathy tearing through Vira. But she couldn’t bring herself to. She left her cane upon the ground, and leant her head on the gravestone. She swore she could feel it, in the back of her mind; the strong arms of her Katalina once more, holding her in a tight, undying embrace. She could stay a little while longer.

Chapter 20: (GBF) A Blissful Moment (Djeeta/Lyria)
Summary:
Lyria and Djeeta share the perfect end to their day.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Lyria snuggled closer to Djeeta, wanting some more of her warmth even if the blanket around the two of them did help a lot. Here they were, out on a hill near Djeeta’s family home, no, their family home, on Zinkenstill, gazing out at the stars after maybe the happiest day of their lives. They had an amazing date, followed by the very moment Lyria had dreamt of so long, then an incredible dinner made by Vira, Ladiva, Anila and a couple of others who already knew about Djeeta’s plan, and now they were enjoying maybe the most beautiful sight in the skies together. Lyria was having a tough time what that was however, going back and forth on the way the starlight twinkled in the other girl’s eyes, or the twinkling of the engagement ring upon her finger.
“Shouldn’t stare like that, y’know?” Djeeta chuckled softly as she noticed just how much Lyria was looking at her. Djeeta had of course been sneaking glances, but had been more immersed in the stars and her thoughts for their future. She was so unbelievably lucky, to have this amazing, wonderful, sweet girl she loved so much as hers, and it was hard not to show it. Sure, she didn’t have the widest smile on her face ever, but just something about the way her eyes rested upon Lyria’s face, the slight redness to her cheeks, and that gentle smile made her look so happy, more than she’d ever been. She leant in, giving Lyria a small kiss on the forehead. “You’re lucky I don’t mind.”
“Yeah,” Lyria murmured, still looking at her fiancée adoringly. Usually, she’d get flustered by Djeeta’s teasing so easily, but she was just in too much bliss right now to care. She just wanted to be close to her, to hug her, to kiss her, to just be hers whilst they had this moment together, especially before the sleepiness she felt setting in after such an eventful day became too much to handled. Lyria sighed softly, bringing her hand to Djeeta’s cheek, and kissing her. They held for a few seconds, an intimate warmth shared between them, before Lyria broke the kiss to speak again. “I really am.”
“Me too. I love you so much,” it had been said so very many times today, but Djeeta meant it a little more each time she said it, because every second she spent with Lyria made her fall deeper and deeper in love. Ever since her father had left, Djeeta had nothing in her but the want to go out, to find him, to preferably beat his ass for doing that, and to be a skyfarer, but had never had any real goal beyond that. She had been aimless, driven mostly by the pain of having been abandoned by that man, but now, that was all in the past. No matter what happened, she knew what she was living for; the girl beside her, and the day they’d settle down together for good. And what an incredible thought that was.
“I love you too. More than anything. More than everything,” Lyria smiled so lovingly, though her words were undercut by a yawn she had been fighting to push down. She wished she didn’t need sleep right now, because that meant the happiest day of her life would come to an end. Even blinking felt like too much of a break from seeing Djeeta right now. Though, it was hard not to be broken out of any sense of disappointment as Djeeta reached up, brushing a stray strand of blue hair behind her ear.
“Tired? We can head back if you want,” Djeeta’s voice was considerate as ever, wanting nothing more than to make sure Lyria was comfy and happy. This moment was all she could ever want, but still, her fiancée took priority.
“I’m okay. Not tired yet,” with a small shake of her head and another yawn, Lyria leaned more on her partner, just wanting to be close, and to stretch this out as long as she could. “We can stay little bit longer.”
“Just a little bit then,” Djeeta smiled, knowing how close to sleep Lyria was. It was beyond cute really, and she wasn’t going to complain. So she shifted a little bit, moving so that Lyria could lean back against her chest. It was beyond amazing, and they stayed like that for more than just a little bit. Lyria’s intermittent yawns soon turned into peaceful snores, and Djeeta wrapped her up in the blanket gently, lifting her to carry her to their home. As much as they both would’ve liked a little more time together, with Lyria being so close to and held by Djeeta, and Djeeta getting to hold her, there was nothing to regret. It was the perfect end to the perfect day, and the perfect start to this new phase of their lives ahead.

Chapter 21: (GBF) Happier Days (Orchis/Apollo)
Summary:
The days of Orchis and Apollo's youth together were nothing but joy.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“…and they say the Omnipotent was really big, like as big as islands!” Apollo played it up, stretching out her arms wide to give the impression of just how magnificent it must have been to the girl who was resting her head on her lap. Orchis looked completely starstruck, mouth agape as the creation myth was dramatised for her. The young princess always got so engrossed in whatever Apollo was talking about, especially after a long day of running throughout the streets of Mephorash together like this. She liked nothing more than to lay down whilst her companion read whatever she was reading to her. With Apollo being the bookworm she was, a lot of the time it was some history or science, but Orchis always loved the stories and myths more.
“Woah… so cool…” Orchis’ eyes sparkled, bringing a smile to Apollo’s face. The brown-haired girl much preferred the ideas behind these myths and stories, and looking at how various historians related them to what was known, but she couldn’t help but turn them into larger-than-life tales for Orchis. It was hard not to, when the reward was seeing the young princess smile so much. It felt like the closest thing Apollo could manage to repayment, after everything Orchis and her family had done for her. After her mother had passed, Apollo had buried herself in her books and tears, until she’d been sent her for her academic talents. And since that very first day, her life had been so different. She still cried for her mother some nights, and cursed her father for leaving her, but so many tears had dried before ever being shed from the sheer joy of life. Orchis had been practically attached to her since they’d first met, to the point where now they were sharing a room even though such a thing was unheard of for royalty. Queen Viola treated her like family too, and even Miss Freesia, who was usually so serious, always found a way to cover for Orchis and Apollo when they’d sneak out of the palace.
“They say it came down from the moon, and used its super magic breath to make the skies!” It was a bit of an exaggeration, and a vast simplification, but it made Orchis happy, and that was more than enough. Apollo loved that girl, she was sure of it. She was still young, and naïve, and knew she could never have something with someone like Orchis. She was just a foreign student, and Orchis was next in line for the throne. But still, Apollo couldn’t help but imagine things as she looked at Orchis hanging onto her every word. Maybe one day, when they were older, Apollo could stay here as a scholar. Maybe even an advisor for when Orchis was queen. It’d hurt being so close and knowing it wasn’t to be, but being close was better than being distant. Maybe Miss Freesia could help her train to be an advisor. Just the thought made Apollo smile, barely noticing as she let the book close accidentally.
“Everything okay, ‘Pollo?” Apollo hadn’t noticed as Orchis sat up, now looking at her eye to eye with a gaze filled with concern. She’d been too lost in thought, dreaming about the future, and now she felt a little flustered, and a little overwhelmed. She was just so lucky. To have this guiding star here who had lifted her out of so much darkness and despair.
“I’m alright,” Apollo spoke softly, smiling as she did. She dropped the book, and wrapped her arms tight around the other girl. “You’re just my best friend, and you make me really happy.”
“Aw, me too. I mean, same goes,” Orchis thought ‘best friend’ stung a little, but she didn’t mind too much. She just wanted to be with Apollo forever, and after talking a little to Auntie Freesia, who hated that nickname Orchis had ascribed to her recently, she realised it was a possibility. That maybe one day Apollo could be her king when she became queen. But they were still kids there. They had so much more to do and learn, so there was no way she could blame Apollo for not knowing. Besides, Apollo seemed to have a lot of goals about studying, whereas all Orchis really wanted was to be with her for as long as she could. So orchis was more than happy with this. “But that means you’ve got to stay here for a really long time, okay? I need my best friend with me.”
“Of course,” there was no way Apollo could say no to that. It was everything she wanted after all. A long time with Orchis, no matter what for. Best friends was about as close as she could get to what she wanted.
“Pinky promise then,” Orchis’ voice was resolute, and Apollo couldn’t help but giggle a little at the usually so energetic and carefree princess looking so serious whilst holding her hand up with her pinky outstretched. But there was no way she’d refuse, so Apollo brought up her hand and curled her own pinky around Orchis’. She would stay here as long as she could with Orchis, and with Queen Viola and the king, and even Miss Freesia, who had all taken her in and made her feel so very loved after so much pain.
Alas, if only such happy days could last.

Chapter 22: (GBF) I Can Always Count On You (Freesia)
Summary:
Even if it was always unattainable, nothing pushed Freesia on more than her love.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Freesia sat in her study, the morning sun filtering in through the stained-glass windows of the Palace of Elijah Chelm. She yawned, rubbing at her eyes as if it would remove the bags from under them, before looking back down at the massive pile of paperwork on her desk. Only a few sheets still needed to be reviewed before she could finish off the completed pile she’d been working on for the past 14 hours without stopping. Viola had bemoaned about a sudden change in a large trade agreement with a coalition of local islands, so Freesia had decided to take it into her own hands, drafting up responses to all the current proposed changes and new plans, whilst also summarising many of the other agendas in relation. They still needed to be reviewed by the monarchy, of course, but this would surely save her beloved Viola time, and a great deal of stress, so it was beyond on worth the tiredness and exhaustion Freesia was currently feeling.
She checked her watch as she finished writing down some amendments on the last form, hoping it would be good enough to need as little adjustment as possible. Viola would be ready for morning reports soon, after breakfast with her family. Freesia often attended such things when there was little work to be done, and it felt like the most real home she’d ever had. She could barely bring herself to speak in more than basic pleasantries with the king, which took effort considering he was the man who had ensured Viola could never return her feelings fully, but asides from that, it had become something the Erune most looked forwards to. Chatting away with Viola always filled her with warmth, and Princess Orchis and her companion Apollonia had elicited a surprising fondness from Freesia. She was happy for their bond, truly, and part of her felt beyond sympathetic for the young student, hoping she would not suffer the same fate with her affections that Freesia did.
The pleasant thoughts could wait a moment longer, as Freesia finished the last of the paperwork, and collecting it neatly, stood and head to the main chambers of the palace. There, she saw her Viola upon her throne, and it was like the tiredness evaporated from her system. It was as if she was completely rejuvenated from just this distant view. She tried her best to tidy her hair and smooth out the wrinkles on her top and trousers as she approached her queen, stopping and bowing slightly before the throne. She opened her mouth to speak, but was beaten to the punch by the sweet, almost melodious sound of Viola’s voice.
“Freesia! Good morning! I was wondering where you were at breakfast, but it appears you’ve been keeping yourself busy instead. Pray tell, what is it you’ve been working on?” It was impossible not to notice the care in her voice, clearly happy to see her most trusted friend and advisor, but perturbed ever so slightly by Freesia’s dishevelled state. Freesia herself was nearly stunned. At times like this, with the sun glimmering in Viola’s hair, with that soft, kind smile on her face, her radiance almost made the Erune question how this woman was real.
“Good morning, Your Majesty,” Freesia managed to force a few words out after a moment. She usually stuck to just calling her Viola, but in a space such as the throne room, some formality was required. It took her a few extra moments to snap out of the haze being so close to Viola could induce upon her, but when she did, she held out the stack of documents. Freesia took a deep breath, regaining what she could of her composure. “I went through the new proposed trade deals from yesterday. I summarised everything, and wrote down some potential proposals and amendments to some of the other islands.”
“Oh my,” Viola was beyond surprised at the sheer size of the pile of paper, as well as how quickly Freesia had gotten all of this done without being asked. She quickly skimmed through, her eyes widening at the thoroughness of her loyal advisor’s work, and just how perfect it was. She let out a small laugh of surprise and joy, something that instantly justified the sleepless, foodless night. “You’ve truly outdone yourself with this. Where would I be without you?”
“You would be the same amazing queen, Viola,” Freesia smiled softly, unable to help herself at her love’s praise. It was worth the pain and the heartache of being so close to such an unattainable thing, just to ease the stresses in her queen’s life. It made everything right.
“Always the flatterer,” a chuckle accompanied Viola’s exclamation as she reached a hand out, gently cupping Freesia’s cheek. The touch almost caused her to melt, leaning into it as if everything else in the world dissolved. This moment alone felt as if it could fuel her for the next decade, and it stole the breath from her lungs. “But this deserves some celebration. After you get some rest of course. Can’t have my best advisor passing out on me. I know I can always count on you.”
The lovestruck advisor just nodded along, not trying to get a word in. Just hearing her voice was enough, and the moment Viola suggested some rest, it was like the sleepless night hit her in one moment, demanding rest. With a mumbled thank you, and a promise to see her later, Freesia made her way back to her bedroom and collapsed into a peaceful slumber.
Freesia sat in her study, the morning sun barely creeping in through the haze that had begun to strangle Agastia as of late. She clenched her fists tighter as those memories of a time long past surfaced through her head, cursing every remnant of that life for being stolen away from her. She made one last check of the pile of documents on her desk. Her many sleepless nights had led to this, details on the Primal Akasha and how to use it. Years ago now, Freesia had lost everything she’d ever held dear, and she had taken it into her hands to fix it now, no matter what it cost. Everything was meaningless without her Viola, and she would not have a world without such light continue to exist. She would bring her love back. After all, Viola could always count on her.

Chapter 23: (GBF) Tears Aflow (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila comforts Nier through a distressing episode.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“It’s okay, its okay, I’ve got you,” Anila cooed softly as she held Nier tight in her arms, gently stroking her hair to try and quiet the Erune’s sobbing. Anila knew how hard things could be for her girlfriend, even after she had come so far. But Anila would be here to hold her through it now. “You don’t have to worry about anything anymore.”
“Why couldn’t… why couldn’t they love me?” Nier practically wailed as she buried herself further into Anila’s embrace. Part of her wished she was strong enough to not need to do this, but she couldn’t Anila and her had helped a crying young girl out while in town for a date today, and just hearing the poor girl’s story was enough to make Nier remember so many things she tried so hard to forget. She was curled up a little, making it easier for the other girl to hold her as those memories that always seemed to torment her in her worst dreams flitted through her mind. Those sneers, the taunting, and the blood. So much blood. Her blood, the servants’ blood, her family’s blood, all of it calling for more and more. “I just wanted them to love me.”
“I know. And they should’ve,” Anila knew instantly who Nier was referring to, and it just made her heart ache for all the things her sweet, sweet girlfriend had needed to endure, and how many scars, mental and physical, she now had to carry. She knew Nier was happy now, at least more often than not, but any sort of pain or sadness was more than she deserved. So, Anila just continued to hold her tightly, giving what reassurance she could. “But you’ve got me now. And I love you more than anything.”
Nier couldn’t muster a response outside of a slight nod against Anila’s chest, too caught up in her internal war to give into the pain in her head or the warmth of her lover’s embrace. Anila just smiled softly, even if Nier couldn’t see it. This wasn’t the first time they’d been in a similar situation, and they both knew it certainly wasn’t going to be the last. But for now, Anila would just keep holding her girlfriend through it all, and Nier was ever grateful for it. Her love felt like a warm glow upon Nier’s bruised soul, and it dulled the pain more than anything ever had. It didn’t stop the tears though. They’d continue for hours, but it was okay. After all, they had each other now, and nothing mattered more than that.

Chapter 24: (GBF) Taking a Break (Freesia/Guillota)
Summary:
Freesia and Guillota adjust to their new work together in Erste.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Guillota stretched, taking a break from all the papers strewn about on her new desk. The new job was nice, and in a way far more fulfilling than what she had done before, but working through the legalese on documents that pertained to a whole nation came with its struggles. She looked to her left, seeing what had become the familiar sight of Freesia perusing through various documents as part of her work for Erste. Ever since Guillota had decided to accompany Freesia back to Mephorash, they’d decided this worked better than the alternative for when they had work. The company helped push through the sometimes-immense amount of paperwork, even in silence, and their respective knowledge helped each other out. Guillota knew how to handle the legal sides of things, and the jargon that accompanied it, whilst Freesia could help fill in the blanks when it came to administrative matters and diplomacy. Though right now, the last thing on Guillota’s mind was work. She was sure her new employer, Queen Orchis, wouldn’t mind. She was the type to prioritise the happiness of those in her kingdom, and well, work wasn’t doing it for Guillota right now.
“You look awfully hot when you’re all focused like that, y’know?” Freesia flinched as Guillota said those words, her breath fluttering against the Erune’s ears and causing them to twitch slightly. Freesia had been too engrossed in her work to notice the other woman get up and sneak behind her, and her obliviousness had its consequences as her cheeks turned apple red. It wasn’t help as Guillota placed her hands upon her new girlfriend’s shoulders, rubbing them gently. It was relaxing sure, but Freesia was wholly unprepared for this.
“We have work to do,” Freesia sounded about as unconvinced as she could possibly be, but it was still filtered through her usual stern demeanour. The work was important, but they were working far ahead of schedule, and had plenty of free time. Besides, as much as Freesia tried to hide it, she did enjoy the frequent contact and sweet words Guillota bestowed upon her. She had been unsure at first, but quickly had grown fond of such things. After so long being denied of any affection or intimacy, it was nigh impossible to refuse it being offered so freely. Even if it did occasionally come at the cost of her pride, hence the high-collared shirt to cover up some marks from a recent foray.
“Oh, come on, you both know we’ve got weeks before this stuff needs to be finalised,” there was a smirk upon Guillota’s face to accompany those words, and she circled around the chair to stand in front of Freesia. One of her hands slid from Freesia’s shoulder, following along the curve of her neck to hook a finger under the older woman’s chin. Her voice dropped to a much smoother whisper as Guillota leant down and tilted Freesia’s chin up to meet her gaze. “We’ve got time, so why not make the most of it?”
Before Freesia could even make up her mind on whether to protest a little longer or accept, Guillota pressed her lips against hers in a deep kiss, filled with passion and more. And then came the next, and the one after that, and then another. Freesia was so caught in the haze of the moment, she barely noticed as they moved to the couch in their shared study, and as Guillota’s hands began to travel elsewhere. Freesia tried her best to maintain some form of composure, but it was hard not to melt under the overbearing warmth of Guillota’s presence. For now, it beat working at least.

Chapter 25: (GBF) Something Worth Fighting For (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Katalina and Vira enjoy a relaxing day together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“It’s a beautiful day,” Katalina murmured her eyes drifting around the park. It was a nice treat on occasion, heading to some park on whatever island the Grandcypher was stopped at, and just enjoying the sight of people having a good time. Though, the knight’s eyes didn’t stray for long, quickly finding their way back to her beloved Vira sitting on the bench next to them. There was a small picnic basket by their feet, which had been near emptied by Katalina alone. It wasn’t her fault though. There was no possible way she could resist Vira’s sandwiches. “I’m glad you found this little spot.”
“Mhm. As am I,” there was a soft smile upon Vira’s face, one that had remained there since they’d left the airship hand-in-hand earlier that morning. It was simply a byproduct of knowing she had a day with her Katalina, that certain feeling of warmth and joy that would nary leave her for a moment for the next long while. Beneath all that, she was relieved too. Katalina had been putting so much into her training lately, and Vira sensed there was something more to it than just her usual wants to stay in shape. She was running herself ragged, being so exhausted most days that she would just make her way back to their bedroom and collapse. But at least for a day, she could give her dearest some time to relax. “Thank you for coming here with me.”
“Of course I did. How could I refuse a day with you?” Katalina’s words were sincere, and it almost caused Vira to quirk her eyeball. Perhaps she’d have to keep that in mind. If Katalina kept pushing herself far too hard and then denying that anything was wrong to her, then perhaps Vira would have to do what she could to make sure her beloved was getting enough rest in between. But those thoughts could come later. For now, Vira just wanted to enjoy this. She shifted in closer, leaning her head on Katalina’s chest. With her partner’s shirt slightly unbuttoned as it was, Vira felt her ear against Katalina’s skin, and the warmth of it combined with the thrumming of her heart nearly made the blonde woman melt away. She didn’t respond just yet, figuring this showed her appreciation for the other woman’s words enough.
Katalina was privy to the obvious comfort of the one for whom she cared so much, even if she could be oblivious at times. She brought her hand up to rest on the back of Vira’s head, holding her close and gently caressing her hair. This was truly something to remember. Katalina did feel guilty about keeping the reason why she was pushing herself so heavily a secret, but this helped soothe her exhausted soul. There was nothing in the world quite as healing as Vira’s love, and nothing the knight wanted to indulge in more.
“I love you,” Vira said softly, the sound muffled against Katalina’s muscular chest, and it only amplified those feelings currently taking over Katalina. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were no more worries? If this was to be their day to day lives? She leant down, pressing a kiss to Vira’s head, and letting herself dream about it for a moment. The possibility of just getting to enjoy life like this, to be with her partner like this every waking moment. It would be perfect.
“I love you too. More than anything.” There wasn’t a doubt in Katalina’s mind or heart as she spoke those words, and she knew Vira felt the same. So, Katalina tilted Vira’s chin up, to no resistance, and their lips met. It was sweet. Warm. Loving. Amazing. Perfect. With the sun shining down on them, the world seemed to melt away into this kiss. There was nothing they ever needed but each other.

Chapter 26: (GBF) Exceptions (Gabriel/Europa)
Summary:
Europa and Gabriel finish up a painting session together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You’re getting so much better at it,” Europa leant in, kissing Gabriel’s cheek as she did. They both took a moment to admire Gabriel’s latest work, a beautiful portrait of Europa, water cascading around her. That was one of the many benefits of Europa’s powers; helping her artists girlfriend find references for painting. She readjusted the towel around her, the only thing left to cover her after the modelling session.
“Thank you, but I still have a lot to work on. I can’t quite seem to get the reflections right,” Gabriel pondered, leaning in closer to try and get a better look at the layering and mixing of the colours. She managed to get the iridescent gleam captured perfectly in some places, but that only made the others where she didn’t stick out even more. Getting better was a long endeavour, but every step of the way was its own reward. Especially when she was rewarded with Europa’s kisses along the way. The primarch-turned-painter quickly jotted down a couple of thoughts in her notebook, before turning back to Europa. It wasn’t wise to leave her affections unnoticed for long. “With no fault on my amazing model of course.”
“Of course,” Europa hummed out her agreement with a nod, stretching out ever so slightly. Modelling was harder than most people realised; having to maintain a certain pose for an extended period of time with as little movement as possible was draining, both physically and mentally. But helping out Gabriel was enough to ease that side of things, though standing as bare as she had been did leave her with the want of some other gratification. “Though, you did make a nice mess of yourself with all those flecks of paint. You should really get yourself cleaned up as soon as you can.”
“Yes, yes, I know,” it wasn’t the first time that Gabriel had made a bit of a mess despite wearing an apron. Flicking her brush for the desired shading tended to have this side effect, but the results were worth it. Though, the angel did raise an eyebrow as Europa, began to turn, taking a couple of steps away. It wasn’t like her to be so nonchalant after a modelling session. “And where might you be going?”
“To wash up, of course. Which you really should be doing as well.” With a small wink over the shoulder, Europa reached their bathroom and slunk inside, leaving the door open of course. Gabriel chuckled to herself, taking off her hat and apron and placing them by the easel as she stood. Between her time as a primarch and living an ordinary life, one thing she had learnt was that there were very few things in life that couldn’t be refused. However, an invitation like that, the sound of water beginning to run, and Gabriel’s name being called in a singsong tone was certainly an exception to that rule.

this is why water is the best ele in the game!!! i have many thoughts involving these two (and michael too with them) so um maybe more in future???? dont know if those thoughts fit the general vibe of all this, but they're there!!! anyways, thought this was fun and do like them a lot, so was a good time writing!!

Chapter 27: (GBF) By Her Side (Mireille/Risette)
Summary:
Risette looks after a bedridden Mireille.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Fever’s down, and the colour of your cheeks is returning. You still need to rest though,” Risette, gently brushed some hair from her wife’s forehead as she spoke, wanting to make sure Mireille was as comfortable as she could be. It didn’t hurt to see her face more clearly either, and though there was that pang of concern within Risette, the adorable look of love and trust in her partner’s eyes did bring a soft smile to her lips.
“Thank youuu. Where would I be without my Risette?” Mireille giggled, still feeling a little lightheaded and dazed from a mix of the fever and the medicine to treat it. She wanted to reach up and stroke Risette’s cheek, to feel that soft skin and the curve of her cheeks again. To feel connected and close after several days of being bedridden. Though, her attempts were fruitless, her hand doing nothing more than trembling. Curse this body of hers.
“It’s okay, I have you, my love,” Risette still sensed her wife’s intentions, reaching down to take her hand. It wasn’t enough for either of them, but it was also everything. To be close, and to have the reassurance of each other’s presence was a boon like no other. Risette just wished there was an easier way to deal with these bouts of sickness. Providing for her love was no problem; in fact, she enjoyed taking care of her of her normally. Seeing the way Mireille would smile when she’d bring her breakfast, or organise her tablets, or just give her those little kisses out of nowhere, was enough to ease any worry within the taller woman on most days, but it was hard to feel the same when her wife was in such a state, so clearly suffering despite the love she tried to show. “Now get some rest.”
Mireille nodded, any thoughts of protest fizzling away as a soft kiss was planted on her forehead. Risette was still holding her hand tightly, and took a seat beside the bed, almost as if a silent Assurance to the other woman that she wasn’t going anywhere. Nor was the baby that Mireille felt kick ever so slightly as Risette brought her lover’s hand to her now swollen belly. It was yet another comfort, and evoked another soft fit of giggling from the sickly Mireille.
“She’s so strong. Just like her mother,” there was a mix of love and awe in Mireille’s tone, as if she couldn’t believe just how lucky she was. And she couldn’t. She had a wife she loved so dearly, and whom she knew treasured her more than anything, and a baby on the way. It was everything the sickly alchemist had dreamed of for so very long. They had shared so many happy memories, and would surely have many more to share. Thoughts of what could come filled her head, of teaching their child, of many nights to be spent cuddled with Risette, of so many things that let her mind drift away in the moment into a blissful sleep, the medications having made her so very drowsy without her realising. Risette just smile, holding her wife’s hand tightly as those same thoughts floated through her mind. There was nothing more either could dream of.

Chapter 28: (GBF) "Oh, Ris" (Cupitan/Tristette)
Summary:
Cupitan and Tristette cuddle together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Cupitan snuggled closer around her Ris, smiling softly as she did. It was hard to be so restrained in a moment so beautiful, but she tried her best to keep herself quiet for both her sweet, sweet Ris’ sake and for those in the neighbouring cabins. It wouldn’t do to upset everyone who had been so kind to her and was helping her out.
“Oh, Ris, you’re so cute like this,” the rainbow-haired girl sighed affectionately, gently stroking the smooth, snowing hair of the one she adored so much, that same hair Cupitan ensured was always in the best possible condition. It just didn’t look, nor feel nearly as good if she didn’t, though the occasional grittiness almost brought back a twisted sense of nostalgia for their days on the run. Much to Cupitan’s annoyance, Ris expectedly didn’t give a response. The taller girl pouted, wanting to hear her voice again but not surprised by her Ris’ silence. Hopefully, that would change soon.
Cupitan sat up, bringing Ris with her, still pouting. She wasn’t overly happy with the quiet, and crossed her arms in indignation. If Ris wasn’t going to show her any attention, then she’d return the favour.
That sentiment lasted a whole of 4 seconds before Cupitan couldn’t resist it anymore, letting out a soft giggle as she wrapped her arms around her beloved, rubbing her cheek against the top of Ris’ head.
“Oh, you know I can’t stay mad at you,” Cupitan smiled, pressing a small kiss to her lover’s forehead before burying her head in her hair. For the first time maybe ever, it wasn’t tainted by the smell of sweet and dirt and filth, but was a nice and sweet, a nice coconut and honey smell from the conditioner Cupitan had brought. Once more, Ris made no attempt to respond. She couldn’t, as much as Cupitan heard the voice of her Ris in her head, and felt her body in her arms, the doll Cupitan was proclaiming was Ris simply wasn’t her. Well, except for the hair. That was all stray strands lovingly preserved and taken from Cupitan’s clothes from before Ris had left, carefully sewn into the doll just to make it all the more real. And the fingernails, of course, kept in a jar from when they were young, as if unknowingly waiting to just be woven into this doll.
“But its okay. I’ll have you back soon. And then we can be together forever, and ever, and ever. Isn’t that right, Ris?” With one last kiss to her beloved Ris, Cupitan laid back down, dreaming of all the things their future would hold. Her hands continued to play with the doll’s hair, never wanting to be far from whatever she could of Ris’. And soon, she’d have to make sure she’d never part from the real thing. No matter what.
Notes:

Chapter 29: (GBF) Glimpses of Azure (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
(MSQ Spoilers for like 170s)
After finding pleasant memories in her last moments, there is nothing left for Katalina.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Dark. It was so dark. It felt like there was just complete nothingness around her. An empty void, lulling everything away, threatening to pull her deeper and deeper until she too was nothing. The only sensation that seemed to remain was the pian. The burning, awful, pain. Like every nerve in her body was doused in acid. And the only thing that lessened that pain was letting herself sink further and further into nothingness. To feel the essence of herself, her thoughts, her being, fade away. After all, if it eased the pain, maybe it wasn’t so bad. After all, if it was between that and the singing, it wasn’t a hard choice.
The singing? Since when had there been singing? That was something. And that made it everything. It was something, piercing through absolute nothingness. It was as if a shining speck of azure had made its way into this void, slowly pulling her hitherto by virtue of it existing in a place of nonexistence. Part of her wanted to stay, to sink deeper amidst the cool nothing, but she couldn’t accept that. Even as the pain grew stronger the closer she grew to that speck, to the point where every thought was awash with pain, but still she kept going. Closer, and closer, and closer. Until there was nothing but that blue. And then light.
Katalina’s eyes fluttered open slowly, the brightness of the lantern sitting nearby like a searing sunbeam to eyes that hadn’t been opened in so very long. Her body ached like it had never before, filled with so much pain that she couldn’t so much as lift her head. There was a tightness around her stomach, where that awful fiery pain seemed to emanate from. It brought back memories, albeit unpleasant ones. Of that day, where so many people died. Where Katalina herself had been run through with a beam of light that destroyed nearly her whole abdomen. But here she was, still breathing, and hearing that seem beautiful song she recognised so perfectly. Sounding so sweet and melodic, Katalina mustered all her strength to surge through the pain and weakness to let her head loll slightly to the side, and she was met with the perhaps the most beautiful sight she could’ve seen in that moment. That beautiful blonde hair, done up in a bun as the beautiful woman it was attached to washed some clothes and bandages, no doubt from taking care of Katalina. It made the injured knight want to cry from joy, and for once, she just let herself.
As if by some sixth sense, the moment that first tear welled in Katalina’s eye, Vira let the garments she’d been washing fall back into the basin, looking over her shoulder.
“Katalina?” her voice was hesitant, almost as if Vira didn’t dare be hopeful. But that all fell away, as she saw her beloved’s lips begin to move, even though no sound came out. Vira couldn’t believe it. It was an impossibility that her Katalina hadn’t died instantly that day in the first place, and was another miracle that she was awake. Tears streamed unbidden from Vira’s eyes; tears of joy, and relief, and love, and of the deepest fear and grief she had ever felt being lifted from her shoulders. “Katalina! You’re… you’re awake!”
Vira wanted to throw herself on her love as she rushed to her side, but knew it was far from wise. She stopped, kneeling by the side of Katalina’s sick bed, and immediately pouring a glass of water from the pitcher kept on the nightstand and holding it to her love’s mouth. Katalina drunk what she could, her lips parched and cracked from weeks without water, and immediately gestured as best she could for a second, a request that was immediately fulfilled.
“Vira…” Katalina’s voice sounded about as awful as it felt for her to speak. It was hoarse and crackly and filled with so much pain, but an almost reverent love. She hadn’t a clue how she was alive, but even just a glimpse more of the woman whom she had given her heart too was enough to quell any doubts for the moment. Though, she was quickly shushed as she tried to speak again.
“Rest, my beloved, no need for words. I shan’t let you go again,” Vira’s voice tried so hard to capture the storm of emotions tearing through her, soothing and loving and worried and gentle and fiercely protective and exuberant all at once, but nothing could truly capture how her heart sung at the knowledge that her Katalina was still here. She leant down, pressing a kiss to the other woman’s forehead, and wiping away both Katalina’s tears and her own. “I have you now, and there is nothing to fear. So, rest.”
Katalina wanted to say more, to proclaim her love for the other woman, to enquire about everything that had gone on, to see who else had survived, but she knew her love was not one to be argued with when it came to matter such as this. And seeing how Vira’s hand had unconsciously settled to stroke her cheek, it seemed there was one last thing to worry about. And if Vira was by her side, whether they were fighting together like years ago, or the other woman was caring for Katalina as she was now, things would be okay. Katalina let her eyes begin to drift shut again, preparing herself for a content, much shorter sleep. And as she entered a world of dreams and colour, she wondered how long she’d have to wait to try one of Vira’s sandwiches again.

Chapter 30: (GBF) Happy Endings (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila reviews Nier's newest manuscript.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Anila set the manuscript she’d been reading through down on the side table next to the sofa she was currently relaxing on, grabbing a small cloth to tidy her round lens glasses, custom made to work even with her horns in the way. That was one of the benefits of travelling aboard the Grandcypher; so many talented people from across the skies meant conveniences like that were available with ease. A sigh escaped from her lips as she tried her best to stretch without moving too much, though her attempts did not succeed as Nier yawned and began to lift her head up. Those, cute, fluffy ears of hers twitched, causing Anila to curse internally. She should’ve known that her sigh would’ve been noticed.
“Hmmhfgg? Wha?” Nier mumbled, trying to make sense of what was going on. She used to sleep so lightly and so little that waking up barely affected her, but that was becoming less and less true. From Anila getting her to sleep more, to her presence just making it so much easier for Nier to sleep easily, Nier had started to rest a lot better, with the trade-off of discovering she was apparently very groggy when she woke up. However, the sensation of fingers running through her hair and having the base of her ears scratched helped quell that disorientation ever so slightly, if only to bask in how nice it felt.
“Its okay, dear. You’re okay,” Anila’s voice was soft and sweet, a practice she’d adopted back when they’d first started dating, when Nier’s nightmares were far more common. It was always a just a nice reassurance, enough to let Nier that she was safe or had someone to hold her while she cried. Now, it was more just a sweet reminder of how far they’d come together. They both enjoyed the comfort a moment longer, though Nier made no efforts to get up from lying on the rest of the sofa, even as she noticed Anila’s glasses and remembered what they’d be doing before she’d fallen asleep.
“Did you like it? My story?” There was a hint of nervousness in Nier’s voice, buried beneath the sleepy drawl of it. Her eyes were much the same, filled with a slight anxiety as she looked up at her girlfriend. She knew she probably didn’t have anything to fear but was still worried. Writing something like that was new to Nier. It was sweet, and happy, and felt so wrong for her to write something like that. She didn’t know if she’d be good at it at all, too used to using her writing to further wallow in her pain.
“It was amazing. Everything was just perfect, dear. But we can talk about it a bit more when you’re properly awake, okay? So just get some more rest,” the Draph meant every word she said, and it cause Nier’s eyes to light up. She would have once questioned every bit of prize, but she trusted Anila enough to know she believed it, and it made Nier so overwhelmingly happy.
“Really? Thank you, I... I love you so much,” Nier wasn’t sure where she was trying to go, her sleepy brain just rattling off the first few thoughts that came to mind. Her mouth hung open to say more, though any further ramblings were silenced by a soft chuckle from Anila and a kiss being placed upon her forehead. Being treated this way still made Nier’s cheeks burn a little, but she couldn’t be happier as she let her head fall back down into the softness of Anila’s lap.
“Sleep well, darling. Love you too,” Anila’s gaze was filled with love as she spoke, watching Nier lay back down with an affirmative murmur. It barely took any time at all for Nier to fall back asleep, and that just made the moment all the cuter to her doting girlfriend. Anila smiled, taking off her glasses and making sure not to disturb Nier this time around. Leaning back in the chair and closing her eyes for own little bit of rest, she knew that with Nier with her like this, happy dreams were sure to come.

Chapter 31: (GBF) Something to Live For (Apollo/Orchis/Orchid)
Summary:
Apollo cleans up after dinner with Orchis and Orchid,
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Apollo would never have thought something as menial as scrubbing dishes could bring a smile to her face. She despised such a thing when she was a child, always wanting to scurry off to somewhere quiet to read as a child, though she did do them for her mother’s sake as time went on. And then, as the Black Knight, such things were far beyond her concern. She barely remembered eating, let alone cleaning up after it. And now, with staff aplenty who would be willing to do such a thing for their to-be-king, Apollonia relished in the simplicity of the task, and the blessings it brought.
Through the small private kitchen in one of the common rooms, Apollo could see Orchis and Orchid playing with their cats. Whilst Apollo had initially tried to detest having such fuzzy things around, but it was hard to resist the combined onslaught of their cuteness and her partner’s pleas and affection for the animals. Apollo was a stoic, stubborn woman. Most could tell that at a glance, except for Orchis and Orchid. They never saw that side of her anymore. How could they, when her love for them would have her uproot and remake the very world if they so much as requested it? They were her love, her joy, her very reason for being, and there was not a happier fate any of them could have envisioned.
Perhaps Apollo didn’t deserve this happiness. It was a thought that had stricken her many a time. So much pain and suffering, wrought from these hands that now attempted to clean, to hold, to love. It was a cruel mockery of all those who had fell from Apollo’s hands, and yet, it no longer left her the shell she was. She mourned, and she grieved, and she cursed herself, but that had done nothing to appease Apollo or those who became victims of her war against reality and death in the name of her Orchis. So, this is what her hands were for now. To bring happiness to those she truly loved, and to provide for them. To give herself fully to them as willingly as she could. Perhaps that made it selfish in its own way, but it made Orchis and Orchid happy, so Apollo didn’t care. That feat alone was far worth it. It was worth more than the entire world. Because to Apollo, there was no world but them.

Chapter 32: (GBF) Restlessness (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Vira tries to bring back the Katalina she knew again
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Katalina flipped through her history book on various armaments, sipping on the tea Vira had left before attending to some duties as Lord Commander. She had to reassure her partner it was okay and that her duties were still important, because otherwise, there wasn’t the slightest chance Vira would leave Katalina’s side while she was still recovering. It didn’t help that the residual mana from wound caused by the decomposition of the Otherworldly dragon had left here unable to be healed by magic, leaving her to slowly recover, contained within a wheelchair for now. She didn’t mind Vira’s company at all, nor being tended too; as a matter of fact, it was the best part of her life as of late. But still, as a knight, and a skyfarer, Katalina itched for action, and she couldn’t wait to be well enough to at least train again.
As if summoned by those reckless, overeager thoughts of her beloved, Vira announced she was coming in and opened the door. It wasn’t like she had to worry about Katalina being indecent. Even if the recovering knight had healed enough to dress herself again, it’s not like seeing each other fully was an uncommon sight to either of them. Now, it was more just a simple courtesy for Katalina.
“My apologies for having to leave you, dear, but if I may, I have something I’d like to show you,” Vira bowed slightly as she spoke, though they both knew it was not a bother at all. If anything, Katalina was happy to finally get some more time outside of this room. Her love of collecting weaponry did extend to reading about historical literature on that topic, but weeks of reading had begun to grate on her, even though there was little else she could do to pass the time.
“Of course. I’ll always be excited for a surprise from you,” Katalina smiled softly, happy that her Vira hadn’t changed much in the slightest whilst looking after her. It was a reassurance like no other, to have her partner be so steadfastly caring through it all. Katalina sat her book down and rested her arms on her lap, ready to be wheeled to their destination. It was another that irritated her, being so weak and fragile right now that even moving herself at all was completely out of the question, lest she reopen the wound in her stomach. But alas, she would simply have to deal with it for the time being.
They spoke little as Vira pushed Katalina through the halls of the citadel, but there was no discomfort in silence. Their presence was enough to dissipate both their problems for the moment, from Vira’s worries about her other half to Katalina’s current struggle with her self and purpose as a knight without the ability to protect those she cared for. There was a small conversation about Katalina’s hair, which had grown long in its recovery, which was not something the wounded woman was fond of and wanted corrected soon. But eventually, they reached a set of doors, leading to a courtyard, and were met with the sight of several students, dressed in and carrying their combat gear. Vira was the first to speak, putting on a much sterner voice befitting Albion’s Lord Commander.
“Attention students! You all show extreme promise, and yet, your execution is lacking. Today, you will be overseen by myself, and Katalina, one of our former graduates and an exemplary knight. She will assist in instructing you, so listen carefully. Your continued enrolment relies upon it.” It was a strange sight seeing Vira in her official sort of mode like this, but Katalina couldn’t help but admire it. Just like the rest of her love, she loved it beyond belief.
Though, she didn’t have much time to get all dreamy, as the attention was turned to her, and strangely, she felt a smile come to her face. Katalina realised Vira’s plan; she’d clearly taken note of Katalina’s unease at her recent inactivity, and got her as close to action as she could. That woman. Always knowing exactly what to do to make Katalina’s heart sing. She’d never really done anything like this officially, so she thought back to her academy days, of a teacher strict but fair, who had encouraged her and mentored her both through combat and her problems with what she was fighting for at the time. So, she mustered up a voice, both strict and fair, one that was as new to hr as it was the students assembled before her.
“The first thing to remember is why you fight. A blade without a purpose is destined to fail. You must have a reason to draw a sword and to raise a shield, or at least hopes to find one. As a knight, there are people you must protect… and the stronger that urge is, the mightier the blade. So, show me why you are here. Defensive stances!”
Vira smiled as Katalina thoroughly analysed the stances of the students, happy to see her immersing herself in her role already. She had figured it would be a good fit, and was glad to see her beloved looking truly alive and like herself again. She hadn’t missed the small pause and glance at her as Katalina had spoken about reasons to fight, and it almost made her feel as if she was just another student once more with the giddy warmth that arose in her chest from it. For now though, Vira was just happy to admire her love being herself again, and taking her from student to student to analyse and critique their form. She was sure the students would take valuable insights from having a much different, more emotive lecture, but Vira was more concerned with her love’s happiness. Nothing was above that.

Chapter 33: (GBF) Happy-Go-Lucky (Meg/Mari)
Summary:
Meg and Mari survey a tourist destination for ideas to help out Auguste.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“…so after that we have the salon trip, and then a meeting with their tourism director, and then a look through local parks to look at their accessibility and sanitation,” Mari spoke aloud as she read from the itinerary she prepared. Meg just nodded along, happy to follow Mari around as they surveyed another island that was a known tourist destination for ideas on what could be done to further help Auguste’s own industry thrive. This was far from Meg’s field of expertise, but she was more than happy to be dragged around by Mari. Regardless of being here on business or not, this was practically just a 2-day long date and that was plenty enough for her.
Hefting the numerous shopping bags filled with important ‘articles of research’ as Mari had said and definitely not souvenirs to further decorate their new home and expand the wardrobe, Meg followed along as Mari set off down the street, talking about the islands history and how they captured it with modern upgrades, audibly taking mental notes. Meg got a few things about directing foot traffic and how planning can be used to do so, but again, it wasn’t the sort of thing that came easily to her, try as she might. She was more than happy to play bodyguard and help out her fiancée however she could.
It didn’t hurt seeing Mari in business mode as she occasionally stopped to talk to street vendors or passerby. The way she could go from so happy-go-lucky to that serious analysis of so many things people never noticed was part of the reason Meg loved her so much. She was always so caring and attentive even when it didn’t seem like it. And the assertiveness that came about wasn’t something Meg disliked either; in fact, Mari could probably say much to support the opposite of that idea. Meg just sighed dreamily, leaning on a pole as she watched Mari whip out a note pad and start jotting things down like her life depended on it as she spoke to someone running a food stall. Meg wasn’t sure how she managed to look so good doing anything, but there were certainly no complaints coming from her. For now, she just had a few days to enjoy with her Mari, and what could be better than that?
Notes:
megmari my goats... i unfortunately dunno if its my best stuff, had a pretty significant health scare earlier today and just a bit frazzled from that, but hope it was enjoyable still. do want to give them a longer thing sometime but my backlog is getting so long for things to write, but maybe one day cause i dont get how people write fiction so quickly, writing other stuff is sm easier.
Chapter 34: (GBF) Past, Present, and Future (Freesia/Guillota)
Summary:
Freesia and Guillota relax after a busy day.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“They really like you don’t they, Aunt Freesia?” Guillota smirked, that teasing lilt to her voice she loved to annoy Freesia with. If Freesia had been next to her, she would have surely given Guillota a nice jab with her elbow, but across the table like this, the Erune had to settle for a stony glare, only causing further amusement for the lawyer. She knew Freesia was the type to bury her feelings, and she didn’t doubt for a moment this reaction was more flustered than anything, just hidden behind an attempt to retain her pride.
The older woman coolly sipped her drink, letting herself simmer down a little. Guillota knew how to rile her up in just about every way imaginable, and it was hard not to give in at times. But after a long day, involving having to hear all sorts of stories about herself from Orchis, much to Guillota’s enjoyment, she really just wanted to relax right now with her partner, overlooking Mephorash from a balcony and sharing a drink.
“They already seem quite fond of you. I suppose you don’t mind their rabble nearly as much,” Freesia tried to sound irritated, even though it was far from successful. Guillota knew it from a glance, the way her tone went from prideful to almost soft, and the way the glass hovered by Freesia’s lips made it clear she was hiding a smile, or at least a pleased look. Freesia was always like that; hiding all her emotions and expressions. Guillota loved moving her hand out of the way when she tried covering all those cute little expressions she made just for her, but this was hardly the same situation where that usually took place. For now, she just shook her head, clearing a few very specific images from her mind before saying something she shouldn’t. Freesia was clearly enjoying herself as is, and the atmosphere was pleasant.
“Oh but of course. I’m here with their beloved aunt. Besides, Aunt Guillota has a nice ring to it,” Guillota may have played it off mostly as a joke, but she couldn’t help but sit up a little and puff her chest ever so slightly. Try as she might to keep her usual demeanour, she had herself grown to quite like the other palace residents. It felt nice, helping mentor them when she could, and by this point, they did feel a lot like family. They felt like younger sisters in a way, and each had their charms, but it wasn’t like being an aunt was that different. She enjoyed it either way. Helping out the next generation like she always wanted, and getting to play the mentor to three people she had come to appreciate very quickly.
“Yes well, it does do nicely. The children seem to enjoy your presence. Before you came, it had been a long time since I’d seen Apollonia laugh so heartily.”
“Really? You seem awfully happy to say that about a woman you ‘despise’. You keep that up and people will start thinking you’re just a big softie who wants to be there again?”
“Perhaps you’re right. I have grown soft, haven’t I?” Freesia sighed, though without a hint of dejection, and without attempting to hide it, smiled freely towards the setting sun. The warm hues painted the sky, blending into a sight like no other and bestowing its warmth to those below. At times like this, she could almost swear the visage of Viola’s smile were embroidered in those velvety hues, so sweet and warm and welcoming, as if encouraging Freesia along this path. And as much as that mattered to her heart in healing, some things mattered more. Her hand slid across the table, tightly gripping Guillota’s hand. Here she had her, the woman who had seen her though the mire of herself, and now, the last remnants of what had been her old family and life to care for. And keeping a future like that close was well worth holding onto.
Notes:
my favs i love this ship sm!!! if u havent please read my longer one on them its genuinely maybe my favourite thing ive written. i really do love them, and also have some ideas it pop up in orchipollo stuff i think, namely freesia being a sort of mentor figure for orchis and apollo when they were young as like another queer woman to look up to. and like, her being stuck moving on makes a lot of sense to me considering, she is like a middle aged woman, lot harder to move on when ur already so far in life but think its great, and guillota works as the perfect counterbalance to her even though they do have similar motives, just one being motivated by romantic love whilst the other was pushed on by familial love. its peam

Chapter 35: (Signalis) Nightingales (Ariane/Elster)
Summary:
Elster bids Ariane goodnight.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Elster leant down and placed a kiss upon Ariane’s forehead, pushing her hair back from her forehead as the white-haired woman settled into the Cryogenics pod. It was a silent gesture of love, one neither had the strength to vocalise anymore. Araine tried her best, but her toothless gums and decaying tongue made little more noise than a fading murmur. And then, ever so cruelly it was time. Elster reached up, lowering the lid of the pod, and sealing it shut. Now was the time where she usually set the timer, letting her lover get some reprieve from the constant pain before seeing hr again, but instead, her hand just rested upon the lid. This time, it wasn’t just goodnight, but goodbye.
Elster didn’t know how, but she could tell. Her hand was covered in the oxidant she’d vomited upon it that morning, a reminder of what was to come. Her death was fine, but Ariane’s, that she couldn’t handle. The thought of leaving her alone on the ship to succumb hurt too much to bear. So, Elster considered this one final act of mercy to the one she loved so much, who had made her a person through her care alone. But even now, it was unfair how beautiful Ariane was as the Cryogenics pod lulled her into what would hopefully be her last slumber. Her teeth long gone, her eyes nearly faded to a milky white, her skin cracked and her hair falling out, she was still perfect. It made Elster want to cry at the unfair cruelty of it all, but her systems had been damaged to the point that such tears had been robbed from her. She just hoped it would be peaceful for her Ariane.
Part of her wanted to stay. More than anything, she wanted to be by Ariane’s side til the end, but she was scared. Scared of seeing Ariane’s vitals cease before her own. Scared of being so close yet so far. Scared of somebody coming to save Ariane, and forcing her to experience seeing Elster’s dead body as her first sight. Behind it all, she was a coward. Just the mere thought of knowing she was in a universe without Ariane terrified her to her core. So with a final soft declaration of love, Elster staggered out of the room, to the only place she could think to go, the only place she ever truly felt safe; she stumbled into Ariane’s room.
She remembered all her brain could through the radiation damage, from their first dance to their first night together, to watching those cheesy romances all curled up. It was unfair. So, so unfair. Ariane had been Elster’s entire life, but just one lifetime was far too short for what they had. It made the Replika wanted to laugh at the cruelty, but all that emerged from her mouth was a stream of bile and oxidant. She collapsed as she threw up, barely steadying herself as her hand hit the record player, and caused the long dead machine to start up once more. As Elster slumped down against Ariane’s sleeping cot, she could hear it; distorted and crackly, but it was still it, that same song she’d learnt was about nightingales and love so long ago. Their song. And as the light faded from Elster’s artificial eyes, no memories of a life well-lived flashed before her eyes. Instead, she saw her Ariane again, happy healthy and in that uniform she looked so cute in, holding out her hand for one last dance. If her arms would respond, she would’ve reached up so lovingly to the proffered invitation. Alas, fate was cruel. So as the nightingales called one last time, the magpie fell silent, alone just as she had left her love alone in her final moments.
Notes:

Chapter 36: (Signalis) Protection (STAR/EULE)
Summary:
A Eule unit cuddles closer to her Star.
(tw:some light gore in this one!!!!)
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Star? You’re still awake, right?” The Eule shifted closer as she spoke, her words an uncertain murmur. There should have been no doubt though, as she curled up on the cold chest of the taller Replika and felt the oxidant seep out against her polyethylene shell. Even the squelching of the Star’s internal components as they fell out of the gaping wounds wrought from the wire filaments nearby on her stomach, with nothing mattering right now but their closeness.
“You promised we’d go back and see the stars. You wanted to tell me your name. You… you said I was special. That you’d look after me. You didn’t lie to me, did you? You promised…” the Eule’s words were barely intelligible, the shock of the situation only just wearing herself off. That’s right. She’d barely even noticed what had happened, from them running to her protector stumbling when they got into the mines, before so much came spilling out. The Eule had thrown up, she thought. Had she really let herself miss those final few words?
No. No. No no no no no no no. Star would come back. She said so. She wouldn’t lie to her. That was a thought that defied sanity. Everything was going to be okay. Those lungs she could see the bottom of through the cavity in her lover’s stomach were going to start moving again soon, and she’d feel the wondrous thrum of her artificial heart. She could probably touch it if she tried. Feel her love hands on. But no, she couldn’t do that. That would be strange. They’d have her decommissioned for that. She had to remain perfectly rational, as she had been so far.
“It’s really unfair, you know? How beautiful you look all the time…” A smile spread across the EULR’s face as she cupped her partner’s face, as if expecting a response back. Of course, those dull eyes remained unblinking, and her lips did nothing but drip more oxidant from where one of the filaments had caught the corner of her mouth and torn it asunder, revealing the titanium jaw beneath. It was still the prettiest sight to the mourning owl, who leant her head in to nuzzle against the starling’s neck. At least they’d be close this way. And at least, she couldn’t hear the sound of shuffling footsteps and the squelching of flesh coated in oxidant and bile falling to the floor behind her. At least this way, they’d be together again soon.
Notes:
these two are probably my favourite single moment from the game, like its such a good snap in the escalating tension of that point to just go with how its affecting everyone, not just main cast, esp with the healthy bodies around them,. also like always been my interpretation the eule is just so shocked and terrified by everything happening that she just kinda breaks when this all happens, hence why she doesn't say anything, and sorta my exploration of just her completely broken about a world alone once she comes to, even if it wont last long from the cycle or yknow everything else going on
i did not intend to do two signalis in a row and will be back with more granblue at least tmrw!!!! just trying to get out some of the ideas i already had for other series, and really only got amikoto crymachina left in that category. also no double today i think i may need to go to a hospital but yuri pushes on regardless.

Chapter 37: (GBF) Relaxation Techniques (Djeeta/Lyria)
Summary:
Lyria helps Djeeta relax from her duties.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“You can be so stubborn? A bit of rest won’t hurt you,” Lyria giggled slightly as she spoke, her fingers gently carding through Djeeta’s hair as the blonde girl rested her head in her lap after another stressful day aboard the Grandcypher. She made sure to do so carefully, not wanting to get the engagement ring that adorned her finger tangled in her fiancée’s hair, though even thinking about how she could now call Djeeta that made her even more giddy. So many years travelling together, and now, it was like every dream had come true. “You don’t have to be tough all the time, and nobody expects you too. You do a lot for everyone, and they all care about you, so let me help you relax like this sometimes, alright?”
Djeeta’s cheeks burned a little at the sweet tone of Lyria’s voice, and the sheer earnestness with which she spoke. Usually so confident, the Singularity couldn’t help how flustered she felt whenever Lyria took care of her like this. It was like every bit of bluster ebbed away in an instant, a feeling that had only strengthened after she’d proposed. For now, she did her best to hide it, rolling over a bit so her face was practically hidden by Lyria’s lap.
“I suppose its not so bad…” her voice was muffled as she spoke, only drawing another laugh from Lyria’s lips. It was amazing, seeing Djeeta acting so cute, and she was sure to savour it. And at the same time, knowing she was letting her partner relax a little more was another boon. She made sure to keep showing her affection though, keeping her hands playing with her hair, something she’d discovered Djeeta really enjoyed.
Though, Lyria couldn’t quite accept not seeing that cute blush on Djeeta’s face. It was a rare sight, and not one the blue-haired girl wanted to miss out on. She let her hands travel down to the other girl’s cheeks, cupping them. She pried her up from the face down position, tilting the blonde girl’s head up so Lyria could meet her gaze with a smile.
“Not so bad. I guess I’ll have to try a little harder then.” Lyria leaned down and pressed a kiss softly to Djeeta’s forehead. It made that blush brighten all the more, and elicited a sound similar to a squeak from the already shy Djeeta. It had been so long since Djeeta had let herself be vulnerable enough in this manner to hear such sounds, and it was a treat for the ears. But that wasn’t the half of it, of course. Seeing her fiancée’s gaze, shy and loving and soft like when they’d first started dating a few years ago was something Lyria couldn’t resist, so she leaned down a little more and lifted Djeeta’s head just a little more to capture her lips. It was sweet. And soft. And long. And still far too short.
Lyria didn’t press it though. With seeing just how red Djeeta was as she parted from her ever so slightly, Lyria was about 90% sure a moment longer and either Djeeta’s brain or heart might of exploded. She gently laid her lover’s head back in her lap, admiring at how her blonde hair splayed out so beautifully.
“Love you so much, cutie," Lyria's own cheeks heated up a little with the pet name especially. It never failed to embarrass her a little using terms like that, but at the same time, it was far too good to not tease her Djeeta a little more right now.
It took a moment for Djeeta to register those words, let alone respond. And when she did, she was nothing more than a stammering mess.
“L..love you too…”
Notes:
back with gbf and i love them sm!!! thought it would be abit of fun to reverse it a little as to how i usually see them because despite her confidence and usualy demanour and stuff, djeeta would just be far too in love not to get a little flustered sometimes yk????? also its been a while since ive written them so nice to go back, even taking two days to write some other stuff (with more planned was meant to write crymachina today but too tired to do two) has just helped with motivation a ton, cause was struggling to find it for anyone but katavira and occasionally some others, so its been great for me. speaking of them, probably another of them soon i like the little thing ive had going with them and have gotten enough of my angst out with signalis stuff to let them be happy esp with msq so close (!!!!!!!!!)

Chapter 38: (Crymachina) Cool and Composed (Ami/Mikoto)
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“This world needs a wakeup call, gentleman. We’re gonna phone it in,” Mikoto smirked as she spoke, a mix of determination and smugness from having the perfect quote for this moment. It would be rallying, no, awe-inspiring. She was certain of it, at least until she felt a sharp tug on her ear. “Ow ow, Ami, that hurts!”
“It’s meant to, at least a little,” Ami’s nose was upturned, a clear look of distaste on her fate as Mikoto interrupted a serious conversation with a quote from one of her schlocky movies. After a few more moments, she relented on her assault, letting go of Mikoto’s ear to return her hand to her lap in a dignified manner, though she looked no less displeased. Enoa and Leben both watched on, not wanting Ami to have her thunder stolen. “Our dear Leben and Enoa were just explaining the next step in helping revitalise Eden, before you interrupted. And stop making that face when you say those things! You shouldn’t get to look so cute when you say stuff like that.”
“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!” The pain and discomfort melted from Mikoto’s face in an instant, replaced by an air of indignance as she faced her wife. “It’s cool, not cute! C-O-O-L. That’s me. Cool and composed always.”
“Cool and composed always, hm?” There was nary a change in Ami’s expression, letting herself sound as unimpressed as possible. She paused slightly, raising an eyebrow as if to give Mikoto a chance to repent, or to at least stop smirking like that. When nothing changed, Ami sighed, letting a slightly smug and teasing look of her own rise to her face. “Well, that composure of yours doesn’t seem to be all that good. Especially if yesterday is to be any proof. All it took was-”
“You can’t just say that!” Mikoto’s cheeks flushed bright red, finally wiping that look from her face as Ami leaned in a little more. She half looked like she wanted to get up and run to escape the embarrassment, but was half melting from Ami’s teasing. Curse that girl, usually so lovey dovey but always knowing how to strike hard when needed.
“Why not? It’s no fair I only get to see my Mikoto being so cute like this sometimes. I love this part just as much as everything else,” there was a small glint in Ami’s eyes, definitely enjoying getting such a rise out of the usually collected Mikoto. By this point, she practically had her cornered on her couch with her wheelchair.
Leben and Enoa watched on, unsure how the conversation had been derailed so quickly. They were talking about important things, and Ami, who had seemingly looked as if she were to keep it on track, had just caused more of a trainwreck. As Ami kept moving closer and closer to Mikoto and teasing her, it was hard not to get an idea of where this was going. Leben had half the mind to cover Enoa’s eyes and ears, but settled for something else instead to save the embarrassment and fluster of watching a very loving couple at work.
“Hey Enoa, I think I might need to go stretch my legs a little. Outside the garden, I mean.” Enoa quickly turned to look at Leben, smiling at those words. With just how engrossed she’d been in that conversation, Leben was worried her partner might have been taking mental notes, and that was not something she needed. A bit of a distraction would do them both good, because leben knew there was no chance Enoa would turn down some time together.
“Okay. I’ll be happy to go with you!”
And so, the two transferred their consciousnesses into their synthetic frames within Eden. Ami and Mikoto hardly noticed. Mikoto was trying not to faint, with Ami having pushed herself up to sit upon Mikoto’s lap to tease her further. Right now, their world was just the two of them, and that was perfect for this moment.
Notes:

Chapter 39: (GBF) Hydrangeas (Mireille/Risette)
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“I guess we are a little too much alike sometimes.” Mireille tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, covering up her furious blushing with the muted lime green bouquet of hydrangeas she was carrying. It was rare for her illness be mild enough for her to act so carefree, but it was something she’d cherish, a sentiment strengthened by the sight of Risette standing so close, holding a bouquet of her own.
“Indeed, my dear. I had thought myself sly for sneaking off to the florist before our date.” A soft chuckle escaped Risette’s lips, a sweet compliment to the sweet, almost serene smile adorning her face. Seeing her love so very happy and well was not something she would take lightly, and as much as it filled her with unbridled joy, there was this strange sense of calmness to it. Despite carrying violet hydrangeas to offer Mireille, it was the scent of apple blossoms that seemed to grace her mind. Mireille had ensured the garden in their home had plenty, but had always hidden it from Risette with a small giggle when she could manage one. She liked that smell, and she liked their garden and their occasionally tea times in, especially as of late.
“Well with how rare these little moments have been lately, I suppose it makes sense we both wanted to make it special,” Mireille laughed as she spoke, a bubbly effusiveness to her voice. So much had gone right recently it was hard not to feel so giddy. Especially when she got to see Risette, looking so pretty in that new dress and with the morning sun shining behind her. She looked radiant, almost divine. It took great restraint not to just throw her arms around her wife, but she resisted if only to ensure this moment was sufficiently carved into her mind. “We must truly thank the babysitter.”
“Yes yes, though I do miss little Fleurir already.” Risette shook her head, wondering how their daughter was doing. She was nearly a year old now, and this was the first time since she was born that neither of them had been by her side at one time. It felt strange, but then again, part of their plan today was to do some shopping for their little flower too. But for now, she held out her bundle of flowers, and Mireille did the same. It was strange to trade for a different colour of the same flower, but the tenderness of the act could hardly be denied. “They’re wonderful”
“Of course they are. They remind me of you.”
“You are far too sweet, my darling Mireille.”
“Not as half as sweet as I wish to be for you.”
The distance between them shrunk as they exchanged words of adoration. Those small steps closer were both the only thing they could think to do, and yet occurred without the conscious will of either. Everything around them seemed to fade away into a golden hue as Risette’s hand came to her wife’s cheek, and she leant down to capture her lips too. Even the pleasant smell of the hydrangeas seemed to fade, eclipsed by the overwhelming love they shared.
At last, they pulled away, but they needed no more words. All that mattered was their fingers interwoven together, and the love in their eyes. For as wonderful as their day would surely be, and as beautiful as their life had surely been, and as much as they adored every second spent with their child, it was hard not to be lost in the majesty of moments like these.

Chapter 40: (GBF) Comforting Warmth (Zeta/Beatrix)
Summary:
Zeta and Bea cuddle on a chilly day.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Beatrix snuggled in closer to Zeta, making sure not to disturb either the blanket resting over the top of them or the book the blonde woman was flipping through. Either option would result in a most disastrous and cruel fate; perhaps she might find her cheek pinched, or her ear pulled on for a moment. Worst of all, she’d affect that look on Zeta’s face as she focused with her glasses. Bea couldn’t tell if she found it cute or pretty or beautiful or hot, but she knew she did want to admire it a little longer at the very least.
A few minutes passes, with the comfortable silence filling the air only being broken by the occasional sound of Zeta turning over a page. Despite the coziness, Beatrix couldn’t help but shiver slightly. It wasn’t surprising, considering the chill in the air and the heavy snowfall outside. She took a deep breath, and mustered up the best pleading expression she could muster.
“Hey babe, could you turn the heat up a little?” Beatrix asked softly, making sure to snuggle her head a little more into the warmth of Zeta as she did so to add that little bit more emphasis. She knew that she wouldn’t exactly be refused, but this hopefully prevented her girlfriend from teasing her a little before acquiescing.
“Geez, making me do all the hard stuff. You’re lucky I love you, dummy.” Zeta smiled as she spoke, setting her book down and placing a hand on Arvess. It took a moment of concentration, and then the gentle warmth it had been emitting intensified a tad more, dispelling any sense of coldness with its comforting warmth. Her hand then drifted to Bea’s chin, tilting her head up slightly to look at that soft look upon the other girl’s face and to plant a kiss upon her forehead. “You can get rid of the puppy dog eyes in return then. Not like I was gonna say no.”
“Mhm, you’re the best, Zeta,” Bea’s voice was almost dreamy, that sweet mix of sleepiness and affection merging into a beautiful sound. The brown-haired girl propped herself up slightly to press a kiss to her partner’s cheek in return, before quickly nestling her head in Zeta’s lap once again.
“’Course I am. I’m me.” Zeta smirked slightly, though it quickly gave way to an affectionate gaze of her own. She picked up her book once more, though one of her hands began to gently stroke through Beatrix’s hair. They had all the comfort and time in the world right now, and here with each other, they could ask for nothing else.

Chapter 41: (GBF) Sure of It (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Katalina and Vira share a quiet lunch together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“And your favourite, guanciale, avocado, tomato, spinach, and of course my secret sauce recipe on a loaf of Ramazan pidesi,” Vira’s voice was proud and adoring as she handed Katalina one last sandwich from her basket. The strict training regime on Albion was tough, and it was important to eat well for the energy. Vira always made sure the woman she loved so dearly was well-fed. It was a joy to see her face light up whenever she bit into Vira’s cooking and she knew despite all her other talents, Katalina was a disaster in the kitchen. If someone didn’t cooker for her, that woman would starve.
“Mhm! Delicious as always!” Katalina didn’t hesitate for a moment as the sandwich, and was instantly satisfied beyond belief. The salty richness of the meat with the freshness and slight sweetness of the avocado and tomato respectively, and the hint of spice in the sauce all came together perfectly. Each bite was perfectly balanced, a true masterclass for a midday snack. She forgot the manners she’d been trained in as a knight, taking another, much larger bite and getting some crumbs around her mouth.
“Well, I’m glad to see you enjoy it. It’s always a joy to make food for you.” Vira chuckled at her beloved’s seemingly sudden onset of a ravenous appetite, grabbing a small cloth from the basket to wipe the mess away from Katalina’s mouth as she rested her head on the taller woman’s shoulder. She had a sandwich of her own, but that could barely sustain her as much as her darling Katalina’s presence. Usually, it would be seen as improper for a student to act such a way, but in this small courtyard, on this little bench, at this time of day, there was naught a soul to disturb them.
Katalina munched happily away, making sure not to cause as much as a mess as she did before. It was delicious, but it did bring up some painful ideas. The tournament was coming up soon, and despite all the rumours, Katalina knew she wouldn’t win. She couldn’t. She wasn’t able to see herself shackled down here forever, but that worried her. If she didn’t win, Vira surely would, and that meant she’d be trapped in her stead. They’d be separated. She’d lose her best friend from her own selfishness. There would be no more evening strolls, no more nights reading together, no more quiet moments sharing a meal. It hurt, but she decided that was a thought that she could explore further some other time. Why waste what was one of the last chances she might have to spend time with Vira?
Katalina finished her sandwich, and wrapped an arm around Vira, who looked like she half-asleep in her current position. A smile grew on Katalina’s face at the sight of seeing the woman whom she currently saw as her best friend and closest confidant so happy and peaceful, even as the gnawing voice whispered that Vira might never look so peaceful again if Katalina betrayed her and left like she planned. Those thoughts pained her heart, but she brushed them off with a sigh. For now, this little bench was there happy spot, and would stay that way as longas they found themselves here. Katalina was sure of it.

Chapter 42: (GBF) So Very Pretty (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila helps Nier get ready for their date.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Are you sure this looks okay?” Nier’s voice trembled slightly as she stared in the mirror. It was a sight she wasn’t used to at all, and one she never thought she’d find staring back at her. Her usual cloak and black attire had been replaced by a pale teal dress that came to her knees, adorned with a beautiful chaos of white roses and their stalks intertwined along the skirt. A simple, light white jacket accompanied it, keeping her comfy and not showing off too much, as she preferred. Her long raven hair was done up in a fashionable braid, something she’d never been taught before, but that Anila had spent a long time painstakingly doing for her.
“Of course it does. It looks amazing in fact. So very pretty.” Anila leaned in, kissing her girlfriend’s cheek and squeezing her hand gently. The reassurance was probably necessary, even if the Draph thought Nier was the prettiest thing she’d ever seen. She was dressed in a similar summery manner, ready for their date together, but it wouldn’t be worth a thing if Nier didn’t enjoy it as much as her. She shifted behind the Erune, giving her a tight hug from her back to make her feel nice and at ease. “It’ll go great.”
“If… if you say so,” Nier swallowed as she spoke, trying to contain her timidness. She averted her gaze for a moment as her cheeks burnt, before regaining the courage to look at the mirror once more. It was hard, but the sight that met her eyes was almost shocking. As embarrassed as she was, the her in the mirror had the biggest grin she’d seen on her face, maybe ever. She really did look pretty. Pretty and bright and happy, three things that never should have been associated with her. She was dark, and gloomy, and she just hurt, both herself and others. But that didn’t matter right now. She looked nice. And happy. And like nothing in the world could touch her. “I do look a little pretty, don’t I?”
“Of course you do. You’re you.” The loving smile upon Anila’s face widened at those words, getting to see Nier so content with herself. The slight bashfulness to the other woman’s tone as she said that only made her cuter, which in turn cause Anila to squeeze her a little tighter, before moving to hold her hand. She figured this was probably the best time to head out, and figured like usual she’d have to push for it.
“Let’s go. I..I mean, if you’re ready. Of course,” Nier stumbled over her words to correct herself, as if shocked by her own momentary confidence. Anila was shocked too, though that surprise upon the blonde woman’s face was quickly washed away by a beaming look of affection.
“Yeah, lets.” With another affectionate squeeze of Nier’s hand, Anila looked up at her partner and was beyond happy to see her smiling back. It was so cute, and it only made her love her all the more to see the usually more quiet Nier so giddy for once. Nier leaned down, pressing a small kiss to Anila’s lips, which she gladly reciprocated. And then, they made their way out of their cabin, ready for the perfect date.

Chapter 43: (Persona 3) Unfair (Kotone/Aigis)
Summary:
Aigis just wants to spend a little more time by Kotone's side.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Aigis sighed, finally setting down the bouquet of flowers she’d been holding as she rambled on. It was strange, that she could speak so long and in a manner she deemed so very human now. She supposed she should be happy about that, but like so many other things, it just came far too late to let her truly feel the joy of it. She took a moment to compose herself before speaking again. It wasn’t like there was anyone around on this particular visit, but it was probably for the best to push the tears back as far as she should so that she could say what she wanted to for now.
“You should Ken now too. Already in middle school, and still won’t stop bragging about having the coolest big sister to his classmates. I visited Yukari and Mitsuru recently too, and they’d hung up a photo of us all together in the main hall. I thought you’d like that. We all… we all really miss you,” Aigis’ voice slowly became little more than a mumble, just trying to say whatever she could think of. She knew she’d have to head back soon; plans to keep and all that, but she just wanted to spend a little longer here. “But I miss you, Kotone. More than anything. I wish… I just wish I could’ve realised I was going to feel like this sooner.”
Aigis reached out, lightly brushing her hand over Kotone’s gravestone. It only hurt her more, but it was the closest she would ever get to touching her again. To running her fingers through the other woman’s hair and marvelling at how soft it felt, to snuggling close together beneath a blanket, to just sitting on a bench with their fingers intertwined. All she had left was the cold granite beneath her fingertips. Aigis sighed, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill from her lips as she pulled a small, old screw from the pocket of her coat, and laid it down beside the flowers she’d placed.
“Here. They had to change this out in my latest checkup, but its still prat of me. So let me leave this here, so I can be with you always so you don’t get lonely, okay? I just want you to be happy and at peace, for as long as it takes for me to see you again.” Aigis stood back up, wiping away the tears that begun to spill unbidden. She didn’t want to be sad in front of Kotone like. She should get to be have a long peaceful rest, without being disturbed. Aigis tried to scold herself with those thoughts, but it did nothing to heal the hole within her that would never be filled. She could be happy, and she very much was, but Aigis would never get to be as happy as she could have with Kotone by her side. It truly wasn’t fair, especially to the girl whose smile had helped so many now being gone from this world for so long. “I..I love you, Kotone, and I miss you. I promise, I’ll be back to talk to you again soon.”
Part of Aigis wanted to stay longer. She could forget about her meetup with Fuuka, and just talk to Kotone longer, but she knew that was everything the red-haired girl wouldn’t have wanted. So, with one more tearful look and a moment to calm herself, Aigis turned and left, her head hanging down. It just wasn’t fair.

Chapter 44: (GBF) A Long Day (Orchis/Apollo/Orchid
Summary:
Apollo waits for her wives to come home from a busy day.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“And how’s my darling doing?” Orchis approached Apollo, a loving smile on the shorter woman’s face as her wife leaned back on the sofa she was seated upon.
“Shhh, she’s asleep. Tired herself out playing with the cats,” the knight-turned-king’s voice was what would be almost unbelievably soft to anyone who had once knew her, as she held the toddler who had passed out against her. Her hold was as soft as could be, just keeping their daughter close and comfortable as she napped. Orchis joined them on the sofa, leaning in and gently stroking their child’s hair for a moment. It was curly, unlike any of her parents, but was still a pale blue, with some darker, brownish streaks. The wonders of alchemy. After a few moments, though, Orchis shifted her hand up to Apollo’s cheek, holding it softly.
“How’s my other darling doing? You’ve had a long day looking after our little Chloris,” Orchis whispered, a hint of concern sleeping through. She knew Apollo could handle just about anything, but it didn’t mean she wanted her wife exhausting herself, because as they had come to realise, raising a child was no small feat.
“I’m fine, my queen. I couldn’t be happier.” Apollo leaned into the touch of her wife’s hand, appreciating the contact after a long day of being separated from Orchis due to her duties as Erste’s ruler. She leant in a little further, making sure not to disturb the miracle passed out on her lap, and was met with a soft kiss from her wife. It held for a moment, and once more Apollo felt like she could take on the world. She spent a moment to simply enjoy this, before remembering the absence that could make this short time all the sweeter. “And where’s Orchid, dear?”
“Oh, our other other darling? She’s making dinner for the four of us,” Orchis smile, shifting to rest her head on Apollo’s shoulder and draping one of her arms over their daughter as well. This was nice. It would be better if Orchid were here to join them too, but it was still beyond soothing.
“I see. I suppose we must wait for her to finish up then.” Apollo leaned her own head down to rest atop her wife’s enjoying the serenity still. She’d have to shower Orchid with some affection when they went to have dinner, but for now, there was not better way to wait.
Orchid walked into the nearby sitting room, confused why no-one had responded to her calling out that dinner was ready. She was met with the sight of Orchis, Apollo, and their little Chloris passed out on the sofa, napping away together with the other two leaning on Apollo like a heated pillow. Orchid sighed, a smile growing upon her face. She supposed dinner could wait in the oven for a while. After all, she very much felt entitled to some cuddles too now.

Chapter 45: (Uma Musume) Radiant Brilliance (TM Opera O/Meisho Doto)
Summary:
Doto questions her ability after a race.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Doto hardly noticed as Opera approached her, a feat that should be nigh impossible considering the other woman’s rambunctiousness. She was too busy beating herself up for her performance in her last race, clutching her head out of shame. She’d tried and tried, but still no matter what she did, Opera still won by a head. She just wanted to be what Opera wanted; a rival to keep her pushing forwards, but she failed even at that.
“My dear Doto, there is no need for such radiance in the radius of my brilliance,” Opera’s voice rang out clear and true as always, guiding Doto’s attention to the woman who shone as brightly as the sun to her. It was hard not to be blinded by the sheer intensity of her personality, but for now, even this was not enough for Doto, something which did not go unnoticed. Opera, ever so headstrong and audacious, the prince whom Doto admired so much, spoke once more, her voice assured as always but undercut by a gentle softness. “My sweet knight, what causes you to frown so even when graced by my beauty?”
“Because I’m…I’m not enough!” Doto raised her voice for the first time in a long time, closing her eyes to stop the tears she knew were gathering within them. It was too much. Here she was, beholding a star that shone beautifully enough to light up the world, whilst she was forever nothing but second place. A shadow caused by such radiance. “No matter what I do, no matter how much I train, I can’t do it! I’m never enough to be the challenge you need, to be the competition you wanted! I’m just… not enou-”
A small gasp escaped Doto as her rant was interrupted by a sharp tug on her wrist, and before she could even realise it she was in Opera’s arms, resting her head on her prince’s shoulder with hot tears spilling from eyes. She didn’t get how opera could be so amazing even at a time like this.
“I refuse to hear such a thing, especially from you. No matter what, as long as you are there, whether it be by my side, or being my eternal rival, you always give me the will to push onwards,” Opera’s voice had softened significantly. Most who knew her would probably be surprised to hear her capable of such subtlety, but this was something reserved for her Doto. It didn’t last long, with her tone rising to a more triumphant state, but still quiet enough to let her beloved rival, supporter, and partner know that unlike most of Opera’s bravado, these words were just for her. “So, my dear, say words such as that no longer. The light of my brilliance can nary shine so bright without your heart to fuel it.”
Doto couldn’t muster up the words to respond write now. She just hugged Opera tighter, and felt even more tears fall. Her heart felt like it had been filled with that radiant glow once more, and she couldn’t help but enjoy the strength of the hold around her. As long as she could be close to her prince, perhaps nothing else truly mattered more than that.

Chapter 46: (Reverse: 1999) Once Again (Isolde/Kakania)
Summary:
Isolde serenades her Doctor in the quietude of the Wilderness.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Ah, Doctor, you are far too kind,” Isolde laughed gently, covering her mouth slightly as she did as if embarrassed. She fluttered her eyelashes; completely taken by the words of the woman she adored so sitting next to her on a fallen log. It was hard to continue serenading her Doctor when such sweet words about her voice were given, but she would try her best regardless. “Though, it becomes so much harder to focus when you flatter me so.”
Another small chuckle escaped the black-haired arcanist, using it to take a moment before continuing her song once more. She relished in the gaze of the woman who sat on the log across from her, as the quiet ambience of the Wilderness allowed Isolde’s voice to engulf them both. It was pure bliss. But as the life of Isolde von Dittarsdorf and her bloodline had shown, bliss was ephemeral at the best of times.
A fleeting image of green seemed to pass between two distant trees, causing Isolde to change almost instantly. Her singing stopped, and her gaze went from blissful and free to something far different. It was as if she had the eyes of a hawk, staring almost too analytically at the source of the noise, whilst also holding a look that carried the wait of a broken woman, one who had nothing left but a desperate, impossible hope. Forgotten was the empty log beside her, her sudden focus essentially blotting it from her world.
“My dear Doctor, is that you?” Isolde’s voice was hoarse as she called out, swirling with apprehension, hope, and fear. It felt like her heart was close to shattering, and her being along with it, like she had been dunked in icy waters to awaken her from some stupor. But of course, there was no response. Isolde was alone. It was just her. No real hope nor joy could last, for that was not the fate she had been assigned. All that was left for her to do was to shake her head after staying her gaze a little longer, before returning to her former position. A pained smile found its way across her face as she prepared to sing once more, surrounded by the comfort of her sweet memories. “I’ve grown rather silly, haven’t I doctor? Still hoping to find you once more, but I can’t… you’re gone. Alas, at least you are still here to hear my songs.”
As her lovely voice began to ring out once more, Kakania slid to the ground against the tree she’d taken refuge behind. Tears welled in her eyes, and she gritted her teeth to stop the cries that clawed their way up her throat, desperate for escape. Once more she’d come here, and for what? To torment Isolde further as she was? To torment herself? She knew this was beyond her hands know, like a rope she’d left frayed. The more she tugged, the more she risked unravelling the whole thing, and yet it was her only lifeline now. But still, that didn’t justify her selfishness. She didn’t deserve to be happy again after what she’d done, and staying would only hurt more, and potentially cause Isolde all the more pain.
So with that, she stood once more, trudging away and leaving a trail of hot tears along the ground behind her, unable to withstand the reminiscent singing of the woman she loved a moment longer. The pain was unbearable, and seeing Isolde so joyful in that accursed state Kakania herself had left her in only further drove the hot stake into her heart. Isolde hadn’t deserved this, and yet, there she was, trapped in that dreamlike stupor. A Dittarsdorf, cursed once again.
Notes:

Chapter 47: (Uma Musume) Just Me (Opera/Doto)
Summary:
Opera takes a moment to rest with Doto.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Ah, my dear knight, you amaze me once more,” Opera’s voice was filled with its usual bravado, a pleased grin upon her face. With the way in which she spoke, it was as if some grand accomplishment had just been achieved before her very eyes. In reality, she was simply pleased to find how comfortable it was as she rested her head in Doto’s lap, her usual demeanour slighted by the hint of sleepiness overtaking her. “What would I be without you?”
Doto averted her gaze slightly as her cheeks flushed heavily at the praise. Her hands trembled slightly as she sat there, torn between the myriad of options presented; she wanted to cover her face with her hands to hide her embarrassment, though part of her resisted that idea because it meant obscuring the visage of the prince she was momentarily caught up in admiring. The strongest urge, however, was to let her hands run through Opera’s hair, to show affection for the woman she adored so. She could barely move from the decision paralysis. The only thing that managed to free her from the grasp of her own thoughts was those piercing amethyst eyes staring right up at her. So very beautiful, carrying the regal air Doto thought Opera personified, all whilst looking ready for a comfortable rest. She was beyond amazing. So assured and confident, it was hard for Doto to even imagine not admiring her. She almost let a pleased sigh escape her, before a slight quirk of Opera’s head reminded the brown-haired girl that she’d been asked a question quite some time ago now.
“You’d… you’d probably be fine!” Doto’s voice was little more than a nervous squeak, trying to contain her embarrassment but failing miserably. This was far too close, and it was just them, and she didn’t know how to act in the slightest. “I mean, you’re amazing and beautiful, and I’m jus-”
“Nonsense.” Before Doto had a chance to turn her head or wallow in negativity for a moment, Opera’s hand had come up to rest on her cheek, both to make sure the other girl wouldn’t try to hide and to give her what reassurance she could. “A ruler is nothing without their subjects, my sweet Doto, just as I am nothing without you. Do not doubt yourself, for I could never do such a thing.”
Opera leant up from her resting position, and without a word, pressed a soft kiss to Doto’s cheek, practically short circuiting her brain before laying back down. Doto was frozen from the act, still save for the slightest tremble. It took her a few moments to even manage a weak nod, her cheeks burning red. She wanted to say something, anything, to make herself seem more composed than she was, it was simply impossible. She couldn’t tilt her way from the slightly more pleased look on the red-haired girl’s face, as she closed her eyes and yawned. There was only one thing left to do, really; Doto’s hands carefully ran through Opera’s hair, calming herself down with the soft, smooth feel, as she remained completely dumbfounded, even as Opera drifted off. It was far too cruel of her to fall asleep and leave Doto alone with what just happened, but then again, how could she even talk for now? All that was left, was to wait for her heart to stop thumping, and remember just how nice the other girl’s lips felt upon her cheek.
Notes:
more opedoto they are actually destroying my brain help i love thme sm.... also um just on a note new painkillers so dunno how coherent this is but hopes its okay cause i do really like them and hope other people feel the same!!! opera has already jumped to be one of my fav characters ever its so bad...
Chapter 48: (Persona 3) Unlimited Cuddles (Kotone/Aigis)
Summary:
Aigis gets to experience the joys of snuggling with Kotone for the first time.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Warm. Soft. It’s… It’s comfy,” Aigis’ voice was almost perplexed as she leant more into Kotone’s shoulder. The auburn-haired girl stifled a small giggle as she watched her girlfriend practically nuzzling into her like a cat upon getting to experience leaning on Kotone like this. It was quite hard not to laugh, seeing her robotic partner so amazed by the simply comfort of being with someone. “My olfactory sensors are detecting a pleasant scent too.”
Kotone’s hand shifted from resting on Aigis’ waist to travel up her back until she could rest it in her hair. How was she meant to contain her affection when Aigis was being so cute? It wasn’t fair, in all honesty.
“Is that so?” A small chuckle escaped Kotone’s lips as she affectionately played with Aigis’ hair. Her heart felt fuller than it had ever been seeing this girl she loved so very dearly finally getting to experience something outside of her programming. It made her want to wrap her arms around her and hold her for the rest of the life, everything else be damned, just to ensure Aigis could have the happiest life imaginable outside of what she had been made for. Her heart yearned to give Aigis more moments like these, and she was set on providing that. “Then you best get used to it. Unlimited cuddles coming right up if they’re so nice.”
“That would be enjoyable,” the timbre of Aigis’ voice was strange; it still held that artificial tinge, but as of late, there was so much more to it. She was curious and happy and excited and just all around adorable, and it made Kotone want to show her everything and anything she could, jut to give her partner the best life she could possibly have where not a day would go by where she wouldn’t give Aigis that same sense of joy.
“That’s for the best. You didn’t have a choice in whether you were getting cuddled anyway.” Kotone wrapped her arm tighter around the other woman’s metal frame, leaning down to press a small kiss atop her head. She had meant to sound teasing with those words, but she couldn’t help the sheer fondness and love that overtook her tone. Her arms came to wrap around her girlfriend even tighter, and there were certainly no complaints from Aigis, who seemed intent on cuddling as close as she could and in as many ways as possible as if to find the best spot to lean against Kotone. For today at the very least, Kotone would certainly be able to fulfill her promise of limitless cuddling.

Chapter 49: (GBF) Perfect Words (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Vira ensures Katalina rests properly after a long day.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“And done.” Katalina grabbed her cane, slowly pushing herself up from her seated position at her desk, covered in the individual training regimens she’d been working on for her students. She needed to share them with the other professors here, get their feedback before handing them out properly. It had only been a few months since she’d started teaching after all. It had initially been Vira’s idea to help her keep sharp during recovery, and Katalina was surprised by how enjoyable she found it. She was ready to get up and go, before she felt a light grip on her wrist.
“Dear, you should rest first,” Vira’s voice was soft, mirroring the smile on her face as she stood next to her beloved. She made sure to shift in close enough that Katalina could use her as a support if needed, not wanting to cause her any pain. This sort of closeness, whenever they needed, was one of the many benefits of having a shared study. Technically, Katalina had her own office as acting head professor, but it was far better like this. Here, Vira could keep a close eye on her in case her injury worsened, and they could have these moments of closeness, but most of all, they could just have each other. Any time through the day when they were both confined to paperwork, they could simply bask in each other’s presence, and all would be right. “You’ve worked hard today, and most everyone will have already headed home. Just rest a little before dropping everything off.”
Katalina looked over at the woman she loved so very much. The woman who had always been there, waiting for her whenever she needed, and had now devoted so much to taking care of her and ensuring she was happy while she healed. She wondered if she could ever return the love Vira had given her, and she felt the guilt rise up once more, clawing at her throat and demanding she apologise and to curse herself for abandoning her for so long.
“You’re right,” Katalina sighed, those thoughts subsiding slowly as she met Vira’s loving gaze. It was hard not to let herself go when met with such kindness, whether she deserved it or not. She let Vira take her hand, guiding her to a nearby sofa for this purpose exactly. “I suppose I’ve earned a small reprieve, haven’t I?”
“Indeed, you have.” Vira helped Katalina down, making sure to do so slowly and carefully and to place her cane somewhere easily reachable before joining the woman she loved. She leaned in, cupping Katalina’s cheek and sharing a gentle, loving kiss. Katalina felt herself melt into, any pain and exhaustion and doubt washed away by the sheer tenderness of Vira’s affections. Her lips were soft, and warm, and she had what smelt like her favourite cherry perfume on. When their finally parted, part of Katalina almost wanted to chase that sensation once more, but was lulled back into action at Vira’s words. “You’ve earned far more than just a small reprieve, my brave knight, so please, lean on me, whenever you need.”
Katalina didn’t know what to say. She was so selfish, having all of Vira’s love like this once more, but she couldn’t protest as the other woman leaned her head on her shoulder. All Katalina could do was rest her head on Vira’s, and try not to let the choked sob building in her throat out. She had so much she needed to say, but just like so many times before, from their academy days to that tournament, to their reuniting so long ago now, the words simply weren’t there. She’d find them someday, if it was the last thing she did.
But for now, she just closed her eyes, bit her quivering lip, and let herself seek into the comfort. Perhaps, this job could last a little longer after her injury healed. That would be nice. And perhaps that way, she could finally find the words she needed to say, after so very long. It was the least she could do.
Notes:
finally back to these two and on this idea thread again katavira my beloved. its funny cause idek if id call them my favourite granblue ship, but i just find them so easy to write for, and very happy to feel like i can write again after a bit of a break. hopefully should be sorted now, and will keep up on the yuri!!!
Chapter 50: (Crymachina) An Impossibility (Leben/Enoa)
Summary:
Leben and Enoa set out to survey parts of Eden.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Enoa hummed as she moved through Eden, getting used to moving in her synthetic frame. It was new, and strange, and so very wonderful to have a body like this in a way her digital form could have never prepared her for. After all, more than anything, it let her really feel what it was like to hold Leben’s hand. As much as this was a serious part of surveying Eden for future revitalisation projects, Enoa had been humming the whole way, happy to be experiencing what she more or less knew as a date, at least as Ami had explained it to her.
Leben on the other hand, had been practically silent the entire time. How was she supposed to react to Enoa being so cute and so very close? She was glad synthetic frames couldn’t blush, something she hadn’t considered for, because she knew that were it possible, her partner would only act sweeter with just how red her cheeks would be. She thought she had gotten used to Enoa’s affections within the Imitation Garden, but there was so very different about being in the real world like that. Leben still felt a little shy thinking about the field of flowers Zoe had prepared for the two of them, and it felt like she wasn’t getting any better at handling those feelings. So here she was, trying to think anything to say as she was happily pulled around by Enoa.
“Is everything okay, Leben?”
Enoa’s voice snapped Leben back into reality, temporarily quelling the way her thoughts seemed to be melting away as she flustered herself more and more by thinking about the contact she currently shared with the love of her life. She had barely noticed that they had both stopped, and Leben grew a little more embarrassed with herself. How long had she been lost in thought, just following the tug on her hand like a lost puppy?
“Yeah, I’m… I’m fine.” Leben gave a small smile to reassure the shorter woman who was currently giving her a look of concern. She tried her best to sound calm, but could hardly stop the slight stutter in her voice. Why did Enoa have to be so cute all the time? It made it far too hard to focus on any sort of task, but Leben had to try her best. This was truly an important job, and between Zoe, Trinity, and the rest of Leben and Enoa’s family, this was a role Leben especially needed to fulfill. “Let’s keep going, alright?
“Okay!” Enoa beamed up at Leben, that same smile that always made Leben’s heart feel like it was melting, a sensation that was only furthered as Enoa stood up as tall as she could and managed to press a soft kiss to Leben’s jaw. Every thought seemed to drain out of the taller girl’s head with the surprise attack, destroying the composure she had just worked so hard on regaining. Enoa was hardly privy to this, just happy her Leben was okay and that she could show her love like that. “I love you, Leben!”
Leben managed to sputter out a series of grunts that sounded close enough to a return of the gesture, and that was more than enough to keep the smile on Enoa’s face. And so the shorter girl hummed as she set off again, with Leben stumbling on behind her in a daze as she tried to think about how she’d manage to do this on a frequent basis without completely melting. It really didn’t seem possible, but at the very least, it was maybe the best she’d ever felt.
Notes:
lebenoa crymachina amazing game amazing characters amazing ship waow... love these two so much even if i think ami is probably my fav, but oh well!!! theyre all so perfectly written it just gets hard to tell!! also was meant to have this out like two days ago, but between fever and migraine here it is yay!!!
Chapter 51: (Uma) Nothing More and Nothing Less (Opera/Doto)
Summary:
Opera and Doto share some time together beneath the stars.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Opera reached out, her hand brushing against Doto’s flushed cheek as she pushed some hair off of the other girl’s face. Opera’s grin, usually so dazzlingly radiant, had softened into a tender smile as she gazed into those purple eyes she had come to adore, with that beauty that alone could rival the Centurial Overlord. And with no-one but the stars above as their witness, she could finally indulge in showing her affections.
“A..Are you sure we should be out so late? It’s already past curfew…” Compared to Opera’s gentle confidence, Doto felt like more of a wreck than ever. Being around Opera always sent her heart aflutter, but there was something so very special about this. Out here like this, it was as if there was nary another being in the world. Just them, and nothing more or less. Doto’s hands sat in her lap, aching to hold her prince close, but still far too scared to do so. It mattered not how much Opera reassured her, Doto just could so rarely ever bring herself to feel worthy of such a thing. “What if we get caught, or we can’t get back in, or-”
Doto’s anxieties were quelled as Opera’s hand slipped from her cheek to the back of her head, gently keeping her there as the ginger-haired woman leant in, let her eyes drift shut as she pressed a soft, loving kiss to Doto’s lips before pulling back ever so slightly.
“Relax, my darling. The Overlord has her ways,” as usual, Opera’s voice was as self-assured as could be, leaving no room for any form of doubt, just like always. Her hand remained in Doto’s soft brown hair, her thumb gently brushing it and admiring her softness, whilst her other hand came to her chest as if vowing that things would work out. It was as if she wanted to show her beloved nothing but the sweetest, most tender love she could.
This affection, however, had a much different effect on the usually shy girl. So close, and still reeling from that kiss, it felt like she was floating. All of her usual worries were left far below, leaving nothing but the admiration and deep love she had for the other woman. Opera opened her mouth to provide another reassurance, but before either of them could react, Doto had flung her arms around her prince, their lips crashing into each other as Opera was half tackled back onto the blanket they were sitting upon.
Doto held the kiss for more than just a few moments, relishing in the feeling of it all, Her Opera’s lips were so soft, and warm, and she felt so comfy like this. After the initial shock of seeing such boldness from her partner, Opera herself melted into the moment, bringing her free hand to rest on Doto’s hip. The world around her seemed to fade away, the stars streaking through the sky as if coalescing into the perfect background for Doto who was now perched above her, nature itself framing her as a work of art. Opera’s hand slid form the back of Doto’s neck as the other girl panted from holding the kiss, resting on the brown-haired girl’s collar and giving a slight tug. The message was unspoken but clear as could be, as Doto leaned down once more and captured the lips of the woman she loved so.
For now, it was just them, nothing less, and absolutely nothing more. And so, they could wast the night away, with naught a worry in the world but each other.

Chapter 52: (GBF) Relaxing Afternoon (Meg/Mari)
Summary:
Mari relaxes on the porch as Meg goes about her daily training.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Mari sat contentedly on her porch, limencello spritz in one hand and a book in the other. Another refreshing sip, and a turn of the page, and it truly was the way to spend a hot Auguste afternoon. The only thing missing was filled in by the sound of footsteps echoing from the cobbled road outside her home, signalling the arrival of the finisher of such a pleasant combo. And at long last, she came into view, the pièce de resistance herself.
Meg was doing her daily laps, making sure to stay in shape, and Mari couldn’t help but adore the sight. She had but a few moments to glimpse her wife with how fast she bounded along, but by the Omnipotent, what a sight she was. All those muscles tensing so delectably, that rugged look of sheer concentration of her face, and the way that sheen of sweat over the maroon-haired woman’s skin made her shine oh so enticingly. Mari practically had to bite her lip to stop herself drooling. Her heartrate only raised more as Meg, as per routine, looked over without slowing down and gave Mari a smile and wave before speeding off again. Each and every moment had Mari falling in love with her more and more.
But, just as fast as she arrived, Meg was soon a blur in the distance, leaving Mari alone with the many thoughts that now swirled around in her head. It was hard to focus on anything, anything but the lingering image left in her mind, especially as she managed it in different ways. She took a sip of her drink and a deep breath, trying to regain what she could of her composure. It did do some work, at least allowing Mari to get her breathing under control as she settled back into her seat with a small shudder. She supposed for now, another few paragraphs of her book couldn’t hurt, and surely could only help her get more under control. After all, Meg only had 16 more laps, so how bad could it possibly get?
Notes:
megmari!!! been a while but just felt the urge to write mari being a freak and being so into everything meg.!!! had something else 90% written for today too but guess just getting ready for granblue summer season!!! anyways hope was enjoyable, and trying to get back into the habit of keeping them truly micro every once in a while
Chapter 53: (Uma) Unexpected Company (Symboli Rudolf/Maruzensky)
Summary:
Rudolf gets a surprise visit from Maruzensky whilst watching over new trainees.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Ever so diligent, aren’t we?” Rudolf tilted her head towards the sound of Maruzensky’s voice, temporarily distracting her from the new trainees hard at work below. High up on the hill and leaning against the railing, it wasn’t likely she’d be noticed, and that was perfect. Though despite how important that was, it was a nigh impossible feat to ignore that voice. “But to be fair, who would expect anything less from our darling president?”
“Rare to see you out by the tracks without running,” Rudolf’s voice reflected the smile that had already snuck its way onto her face at the unexpected company. She turned, leaning back against the railing to admire the other woman’s approach. The back of her mind internally complimented her gait, the confident strides befitting her strength as a runner, though her usual analysis of everything was all but drowned out by the thought of how very pretty Maruzensky looked under the late afternoon sun.
“Well, I couldn’t just leave an old-timer like you out her all alone. Who knows what might happen?” With a smooth manoeuvre as she got close enough, Maruzensky brought her hand to Rudolf’s cheek, gently brushing her thumb along it as her other hand rested on the railing, making sure she was close as could be. She leaned in a little, slowly closing her eyes, and was met by a soft kiss from the Emperor. It was far from their first, and would almost certainly be far from the last. After holding it for a few moments, they both pulled away slightly, not wanting to be too obvious at a time like this.
“Ah yes, simply worried for me and nothing else.” Rudolf smirked softly at that, barely noticing as her hand had made its way to the other woman’s hip. Hearing such a blatant, albeit unoffensive lie, well, it just meant it was time for another spark of genius to shine through. There was the perfect line just sitting there. She could feel it. Ma-rude-zensky? No, this wasn’t quite rude, more just indulgent. There had to be something. And after a slight moment of thinking further, it was there. Her eyes lit up, her voice taking on a familiar, far lighter tone. “You could say you wer-”
“Nope.” Before a single pun could escape Rudolf’s lips, Maruzensky’s hand was there, muffling any attempts at such a thing. “That was a nice moment, and I won’t have that from lips I just kissed.”
With the sweet mood she was going for at least temporarily dispelled, Maruzensky sighed, shifting to lean on the railing besides her partner. Usually, she’d just groan a joke away or tease Rudolf a little, but she’d thought it might have been nice for a sneaky bit of romance under the setting sun. Ah well, they could always take a drive somewhere for that later, and Rudolf was here for a reason in the first place.
“But I suppose regardless, I wouldn’t dream of disrupting our disrupting the academy’s beloved president,” Maruzensky’s voice had softened as she got herself comfortable, with Rudolf turning around to look over the new students once more. Though, she couldn’t keep herself from a little tease, as well as a little declaration she wasn’t going anywhere. “At least not too much.”
“I suppose I can live with that,” Rudolf matched the other woman’s tone, a tender smile on her face as her hand shifted to rest over Maruzensky’s. “Even with a little bit of disruption.”
Maruzensky gave her response by flipping her hand on the railing over to intertwine her fingers with Rudolf’s, before delivering a slight squeeze as they settled into a comfortable silence. There they were together, ready to tackle on anything they could together, for the sake of the new generation below.

Chapter 54: (GBF) Deserving Of (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Katalina reads a small note Vira left on the bed for her.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Katalina fiddled with the note in her hands, both unable to tear her eyes away from it and wanting nothing more than to stop herself from reading it once more. The sweetness in each word had begun to hurt, as she took in Vira’s written words of love and care again. The breakfast that had been prepared for Katalina sat cold beside her, as ignored as the knight’s cane resting against the bed. She could hardly stomach such kindness as of late.
It had been a mess since she had arrived back at Albion, dying and weak and barely able to move. Then had came the struggles of adapting to her new life, held back far from the excitement she was used to, and then, there had been the bliss. Even with the difficulties that had now been imposed upon her, spending these few months with Vira had been more than she ever could have ever imagined. Waking up in each other’s arms, working together in a comfortable silence, and the unmatched solace and joy found in her company and their intimacy. And yet, it had also come to feel as if it were more than Katalina ever deserved.
She had received nothing but the most tender love and adoration from Vira, and yet, for the first time truly, Katalina had been forced to face just what she’d put the love of her life through. There was so much to be done as Lord Commander, and though most failed to see it, Katalina knew Vira well enough to recognise the almost imperceptible signs of exhaustion that occasionally presented themselves. So much effort, and so many lonely years, and for what? Katalina’s own selfish desires for freedom and adventure, and to fail her duty of protecting Lyria who had already long set off for Estalucia with what remained of their crew. In the end, Katalina had abandoned the one she’d loved, the one who had sacrificed her, and then had the gall to relish in her care for so very long.
Tears priced her eyes as she crumpled the note in her hand. She really couldn’t stomach it. Vira loved her so very much, but Katalina wasn’t the woman whom Vira had thought she adored. She was selfish, and greedy, but above all else, a coward. She couldn’t deny that there had been times where she had wanted to return to Albion for a visit prior, but she never could, because it meant facing the woman she had forced into this life, and facing herself, and her guilt, and her regret, and her fear that maybe one day she’d arrive back and discover that Vira had finally realised who Katalina truly was and done the smart thing of letting herself move on, when Katalina never truly could. She was pathetic.
She reached over for her cane, doing nothing to stop the hot tears streaming down her face. She couldn’t bear it anymore. Part of her wanted to run like she always had, but truthfully, she had nowhere to go. Her crew had seemingly vanished into the sky, she could barely stand unassisted for more than an hour, and most challenging of all was the way her heart ached at the thought of abandoning her dear once more. It was just an impossible task. So, there was only one thing she could do. Find the woman she loved, help her see how awful Katalina truly was. Perhaps, if she were lucky enough to still have Vira’s ear even a moment longer after that, she’d have her chance to beg forgiveness and apologise for all the pain, loneliness, and heartache she had inflicted on the one dearest to her. But she didn’t deserve that. She didn’t deserve anything. Even dying wouldn’t have been fair, for the pain it would have caused others had they not known the real her would have been sickening in how undeserved their tears might have been.
So, she did the only she could do; she swallowed what remained of her pride, and set off towards the office of the Lord Commander.
Notes:
i really like this sort of idea tbh, not like because this is necessarily what i think (it is to some extent like damn katalina in msq situation really just fucked over vira massively), but just the sense of uselessness by katalina, ever the dutiful knight, finding her body not working as it used to, and then forced to grapple with the realisation that she did do so much harm to the woman she loved, to the point their last real meeting in msq was initiated by vira practically going insane over how much she missed katalina. but like even then, it wasn't enough to get kat to stay, and now that in this sort of situation, since shes been forced to, its just so very hard for her not to loathe herself over it all. think its just a concept i like that i havent really seen explored, but think its worth considering!!! anyways hope people enjoyed!!!

Chapter 55: (Umineko) Nothing but Greed (Ange/Mammon)
Summary:
Ange and Mammon get what rest they can in the St Lucia dorms.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Ange shifting, snuggling herself in close as her face rested in the crook of Mammon’s neck. It had been another painful day, as per usual, and now in the quiet dorms as her roommate slept, Ange could at long last relax without fear of any prying eyes seeking to belittle her further. Instead, she could just sink into Mammon’s embrace, enjoying the comfort of being held so firmly and sweetly for once in her life. She could just lay here, without a worry in the world for the time being as she enjoyed being able to forget all about everything. It was so comforting, so bliss full, so-
“My my, what a cute expression that is,” Mammon teased, gently reaching down to tilt Ange’s face up enough to get a good like at her expression. It was a sight worth savouring, the usually stoic girl’s expression morphed into something sleepy and affectionate. As much as Mammon did plan to tease her, she could at least feel a hint of satisfaction at allowing Ange to relax like this. This would usually be the perfect time to get excited and gloat, but she didn’t want to disturb the red-haired girl in the slightest. If anyone needed and deserved some rest, it was Ange. “I get to see so many cute looks from you all the time, and keep them all to myself. Aren’t I lucky?”
“Mhm. So am I,” Ange yawned as she spoke, her tone soft and sleepy. On the verge of drifting off like this, she couldn’t help it, unbelievably grateful to the woman who was by her side no matter what, who was there to comfort her, and to show that kindness which she had been starved of for so very long. “You’re always here, and you… you stay. So… don’t leave me. You make it easy to keep going. I’m just—” she yawned once more, snuggling closer into Mammon’s arms as she mumbled, “I couldn’t be happier that you’re here.”
Mammon stared for a moment, seemingly perplexed by the sincere ramblings escaping the usually composed Ange’s lips, as she tried to ignore the noticeable heat rushing to her cheeks. Such words of affection, and all for her? This would be the perfect time to gloat, but for whatever reason, such confident words lodged themselves in her throat. All she could manage to do was mumble back a response, bringing a hand up to stroke Ange’s hair.
“You’re… you’re just tired and talking nonsense. Go to sleep.” Mammon barely managed to get those words out. She wanted to indulge in more sweet words from Ange, but at the same time, she felt stranger than she ever had, a feeling she couldn’t fully encapsulate in wors or thought threatening to overtake her. Besides, if she was loud, she might make Ange mad, and that wouldn’t do. Not waking her was the only reason she could rationalise as to her actions, so that had to be it.
“Okay,” Ange murmured back, practically asleep by the time she shifted back to her original resting spot. Mammon’s hand stayed in her hair, gently stroking it to ensure the other girl could get a pleasant slumber. It was just to be selfish, to claim this special moment as something no-one else could ever had. There was nothing more to it then greed, as she held Ange ever so slightly more firmly, and tucked the sleeping girl’s head under her chin. There was nothing to it, of course, even as part of Mammon wished this moment could last for a blissful eternity. It was just greed, and nothing more.
Notes:
umineko might just be the game of all time and wow yuriful too. being slowly working through it again after getting spoiled and losing motivation but yeah this game is kinda incredible 10/10 o notes and ange is an absolutely amazing character, one of the best. all around incredible experience like idk even know what to say, asides from i absolutely love these two a bunch!!!

Chapter 56: (GBF) Anxiety (Anila/Nier)
Summary:
Anila helps Nier relax a little more in public.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Are you… are you sure its okay to be out like this? People are staring…” Nier squirmed slightly on the park bench, her anxiety flaring up as she sat on the bench next to Anila, dressed up so nicely in a way that she wasn’t exactly familiar with. For most of her life, her clothes had been hand me downs or spare dresses from the servant’s closet, so being in something that her girlfriend had handpicked for her was as strange as it was comforting. As of now though, being seen in such a way just made her already present nerves soar. She tried not to knock their shopping bags off the seat, though it was hard with how much she trembled.
“It’s perfectly fine, dear,” Anila reassured Nier as best she could, her voice low and soothing as she took the Erune’s hand in both of hers and gave it a gentle squeeze. She concentrated a moment, manifesting one of her flock besides her. It took notice of the situation instantly, moving over to nuzzle against Nier’s leg. Her hand almost instinctively went and tangled itself in the soft wool, and Anila smiled as an almost unbidden sigh escaped Nier’s lips. She’d long since found how much her sheep’s affection could comfort her partner, and it made Anila so very happy each time she could help her. She wasn’t content with just that though, leaning over to place an affectionate peck on the other girl’s cheek. “Besides, even if they were staring, they were probably just jealous of how cute you are.”
Nier let out a squeak and felt her cheeks burn red as a result of both the kiss and sweet words. It stopped her trembling at least, as she instead froze on the spot momentarily, before melting back down and leaning her head on Anila’s shoulder. She had to take a few moments to compose herself and regain the ability to think or move properly, her hand returning to its absentminded stroking of the sheep that was still snuggling close. “Th..thank you.”
“You’re too cute,” Anila laughed gently as she shifted the bags to allow Nier to lean in a bit more. She knew that Nier’s anxiety was still prone to flaring up like this, and she was more than willing to give whatever comfort she could till the other girl was feeling better. She just let her thumbs trace lazy circles on Nier’s hand, whispering once more. “Just take as long as you need. I’ll be here.”
Nier gave a small nod as she continued leaning on Anila’s shoulder, slowly taking deep breaths to calm herself down. She was ever grateful for her partner’s patience, and between the comfort of the sheep, the beautiful weather, and of course Anila’s presence, Nier felt herself begin to relax, though she didn’t make any moves to get up quite yet. For now, she figured she could be a little greedy with what was such a sweet moment to her, and she certainly wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity like that.

Chapter 57: (GBF) Travel Plans (Orchis/Apollo/Orchid)
Summary:
Orchid and Apollo tell Orchis of all the places they've seen whilst together.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“…if only you were there to see it,” Apollo murmured, a soft smile on her face as she gave Orchis’ shoulder a small squeeze. Laying here upon a bed of pillows on one of the palace’s balconies, with Orchis nestled between Orchid and herself as they recounted some of the places they’d been left the knight and king with a comfortable warmth in her chest reminiscent of those comfortable days when her and her queen were but children. “We should visit some of these places when we get the chance.”
“Travelling together would be fun.” Orchid nuzzled into Orchis’ neck more, letting out a small hum of agreement at the suggestion. Every day was an unforgettable experience, carving out countless treasured memories to make up for all the time she’d never had, and the thought of getting to involve both of the loves of her life within more of them made her practically giddy with joy.
“Maybe soon. Freesia and Guillota should be able to oversee everything after we get those trade agreements sorted out,” Orchis’ voice was thoughtful, caught up between the dreamlike images she’d had painted inside of her mind, ranging from lush jungles and beautiful snowy peaks, and the realities that came with being a monarch of a nation rebuilding both itself and its reputation. But at the same time, she couldn’t help but have those wants to see everything she had missed out on. Just like Orchid, who had only come into existence as her own individuality a paltry few years ago, and Apollo, who had been consumed by rage and grief for so very long, Orchis had had so much of her life stolen away from her, and so much of her wanted to reclaim it. She spoke up again, her voice growing ever softer. “I’d really like to see snow, I guess.”
A small laugh escaped both Orchid and Apollo’s lips almost simultaneously, the sound of a deep, hearty chuckle and an affectionate giggle melding together into the perfect symphony, every note filled with love and sweetness. It wasn’t like it was uncommon for Orchis to allow her vulnerabilities to show to the both of them, but it didn’t stop either from adoring it all the more each and every time.
“Then we’ll make sure you can see the snow soon, my love.” Apollo leaned in to press a small kiss to her queen’s cheek, and then once more, and then to her forehead, before settling by draping her other arm over Orchis too.
“Mhm! We can go anywhere you want!” Orchis was met with a similar barrage of affection from her left as Orchid too peppered her with kisses and clung tightly to her side. Her and Apollo had seen how stressed their love had been with her work, and it was a true joy to see her relax once more.
“But well, if you say anywhere, I think I’d like to visit Auguste to see your home, ‘Pollo. And I’d love to see the architecture at Albion, but I’ve also heard that…” Orchis began to indulge in all those little thoughts she had bottled up, gushing about all the places she’d wanted to see since she was a child. Her wives were of course all the happier to indulge her excitement. And so, they snuggled close, softly regaling Orchis with all the beautiful sights they’d seen amidst their troubled past, and lovingly listening on as she made grandiose plans for a trip. Because now, they had all the time in the world to make up for those lost years, and would be together, as they always would be.

Chapter 58: (Signalis) Soft (Ariane/Elster)
Summary:
Elster asks Ariane a very important question.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“Um, Scout Off- I mean, Ariane, if I may?” Elster shifted awkwardly, still trying to adjust to referring to her assigned superior officer in such a casual way. Stranger still was having her hand on Ariane’s hip, the warmth of her body seeping into Elster’s polyethylene frame. She felt the oxidant pool in her cheeks, mustering up the courage to speak again as she saw Ariane give a small nod, still wearing that amused smirk she always did whenever she got to the Replika acting so shy. It never helped, only compounding the issues further. “Well, are all Gestalts so… malleable?”
“Malleable?” Ariane laughed softly, endeared by another bout of Elster’s shyness, as well as the way her grip tightened slip, almost tentatively on Ariane’s hip as she spoke, as if to further substantiate her point. Ariane’s hand trailed up along Elster’s side gently, before coming to cup her cheek. “There’s probably a better word for it than that, but I guess the answer would be yes.”
She shifted slightly, placing a kiss on her partner’s forehead before settling back into her arms with that same amused smile. It was a little hard to feel anything but giddy when met with the adorable confusion of her Elster as she slowly came more and more out of her shell. Ariane snuggled a little closer, letting out a contented sigh as she relished in the closeness.
“But for the future, soft is a much better word for that.”
“Noted,” Elster mumbled softly in response, finding it suddenly hard to speak and breathe after that small peck to her forehead. It had felt like so much had come so fast recently, and it was hard to maintain her usual composure when showered with the affection she had had no way of knowing before Ariane had opened up that first time. All of this was so far from what she was used to and what she had been designed for, and it was hard to know how to deal with such a thing. She couldn’t even find true relaxation in the work she had been designed for and had come to enjoy, as being alone with her tools just let her mind wander to so very many places. From how cute Ariane looked when she laughed, to that focused look she got while painting the Replika had come to adore, to the small touches Ariane gave out whenever they passed one another in the ship’s halls, and she was now sure the sensation of Ariane’s hip under hand would be another addition to those daydreams. At the same time though, when she did work, she felt like she was putting more into it than thought possible, and more than her parameters were supposed to allow. Maintenance had gone from an assigned job to her way of protecting and showing her appreciation for Ariane’s company, so of course it was far more important now.
After a few more minutes of struggling with her thoughts and growing increasingly flustered, Elster tilted her gaze down again, noticing that Ariane had drifted of whilst she was ruminating over everything. She felt a small pang of guilt claw at her throat for not noticing, before shaking her head slightly to dispel. Ariane was comfy. That was all that mattered. She just laid there for a few more moments admiring the sight, before her mind drifted once more, leaving but a single thought in her mind. With a hint of trepidation at being the one to initiate any form of contact, Elster steeled herself and returned the forehead kiss from earlier with one of her own.
“Sweet dream,” Elster murmured, remembering the words Ariane had given her each and every time she had gone to restore her systems. She was yet to have any dreams at all yet, but that didn’t stop her from hoping with all her might that tonight would be as pleasant as the white-haired woman deserved, before settling back down to join the woman who had let Elster be Elster in a peaceful slumber and their shared, loving embrace.

Chapter 59: (GBF) Sleeping In (Freesia/Guillota)
Summary:
Freesia awakens one morning to find the bed empty next to her.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Freesia sighed, removing her head from her hands and glancing around the dim room, before her eyes settled on the otherwise empty bed she was sitting on. Tossed blankets, crumpled sheets, but an empty space beside her, like she had grown accustomed to for so long. In her groggy daze, she threw on a shirt from her bedside table, managing the effort to button it up halfway, before standing and putting her glasses on. Her gaze shifted to the door leading to the balcony, left open by a crack. With a small sigh, she headed over, deciding a bit of early morning sunlight couldn’t hurt.
“You’re up early,” Freesia murmured, draping her arms over the shoulders of the woman she’d expected to find beside her in the morning. Being the one usually awake first; she wasn’t as used to the feeling of waking up alone that she had once grown accustomed to.
“Me? Up early? We both know I’d never let that happen,” Guillota chuckled, setting down her morning coffee to lean back into the embrace for a moment. It was a rarity to see her girlfriend acting like this, but she had no complaints. She figured this was what life must truly be about; the morning sun and a pleasant breeze hitting her bare skin beneath the unbuttoned top she wore, a nice view out over an island, and the arms of her lover around her. She could hardly imagine how she got through so much of her life without pleasures like these, but she’d be damned if she ever gave them up now though. She couldn’t think too long though, turning her attention back to the Erune currently wrapped around her from behind her chair. “Rather, I’d say it was you who overslept for what must be the first time, eh? What happened to that flawless routine of yours?”
Freesia scoffed, slowly untangling herself from around her partner to instead sit on the other side of the small coffee table, reaching over to the steaming pot in the middle to pour herself a cup. She did perhaps want to enjoy a few more moments embracing Guillota, and whilst it was clear to everyone around her that she’d softened in recent months, she couldn’t have herself looking too soft or clingy. She wasn’t sure if she could handle the vulnerability that came with that quite yet. She settled for resting her free hand over Guillota’s, keeping herself reserved for now.
“I was merely… exhausted, I suppose,” she admitted reluctantly, loathe to admit she had been letting her edge be smoothed down so much by the comfort her day-to-day life was now engulfed in. From the way Orchis and Orchid, and even Apollo seemed to accept her and welcome her, to being loved so fully by Guillota, she could no longer let the caution and pain dictate her, even if she felt she didn’t deserve it. Beyond all else, it just confused her, to see that even after everything, they cared. She sighed, sipping her coffee.
“Exhausted, eh?” Guillota leaned in, a small smirk on her face to break Freesia out of her thoughts. “But I hardly did enough to exhaust you this badly last night.”
Freesia turned her head away and scoffed once more, trying to cover up the way her cheeks reddened slightly and her ears twitched at that statement.
“Quiet, you. Go back to reading those papers.” Freesia sipped her coffee to try and contain her embarrassment, but the laugh from Guillota let her know it was so very far from successful. That woman, always saying such frivolous things. It truly was an annoyance.
“Alright, alright, I’ll leave the kitty alone for now so she can wake up. Will just have to keep all this mind in case you ever look like you need a good sleep in then.” With another small laugh, Guillota rested back in her chair once more, giving Freesia’s hand an affectionate squeeze as she did. For all her teasing, she didn’t want to overwhelm her partner this early in the morning, knowing that she wasn’t exactly used to such playfulness.
Freesia just sighed and shook her head, gazing out over Mephorash as she soaked in the moment. Despite her flustered state, the moment was pleasant, she supposed. It was perhaps more than she deserved, but those around her had helped push that mindset down recently with their care. Right now, it was what she had, and there was no part of her that wanted to let it go.

Chapter 60: (Umineko) Gentle Smile (Ange/Mammon
Summary:
Mammon and Ange rest in their quiet spot away from the troubles of St Lucia.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
“It’s comfy,” Ange murmured, almost in awe, as she finally gave in and rested her head on Mammon’s lap. It was a pleasant day, the midsummer sun bathing the pair in a comfortable warmth as a light breeze lazily made its way about their secret little spot. It offered the perfect atmosphere for some much-needed rest after another night of dealing with the other girls and their “generosity.” Ange hardly noticed the sigh that escaped her as Mammon’s hand came down to rest on her side, her thumb tracing unfocused shapes upon the other girl.
“Of course it is!” Mammon exclaimed with her usual confidence. Despite this energy however, she kept her voice restrained and made sure not to jostle Ange about too much with any movements. “I’ll make sure it’s so nice that you’ll never want to leave and then I can have you all to myself.”
Despite her bravado, a glimmer of concern in Mammon’s eyes undercut her blustering. The girls had been particularly cruel yesterday, and she was worried it might have affected Ange more than she was letting on. Her worries continued to bubble up as she tried to think of something to say to ensure her Ange was okay, but nothing seemed to arise. She was Mammon of Greed after all. Sweet words deserved to be all hers, and it was nigh unheard of for her to give out things. And yet, the need to comfort Ange overcame everything. Her concern continued to mount, at least until she heard a small laugh come from the girl resting on her lap.
“Thank you, Mammon. I’m glad you’re still here.” Ange turned over, laying on her back to smile up at the brown-haired girl. The vestiges of pain still lingered in the corner of her gaze, but it was quickly subsumed by the joy at having someone here for her. No, that wasn’t it. It was having Mammon here for her. As long as Mammon stayed by her side like she did, nothing could truly hurt her. All those words, and the bullying, and the loneliness, none of it mattered.
“Yes…” Mammon felt the smirk fade into a much gentler smile unbefitting of her role. Words to boast about having Ange’s gratitude and thanks to herself, but she just couldn’t force it out like she wanted. It was far too strange, being limited like this. “You don’t have to worry about me leaving.”
She was shocked by how soft her words came out, but couldn’t help but be thankful of it, her hand drifting to Ange’s hair to gently card her fingers through the red locks. The comfort it brought was mutual, with Mammon unable to tear her eyes away from Ange’s smile, especially as the other girl’s eyes drifted shut. Though she’d found her nature falter at times regarding Ange, this was one thing she would never stop being greedy over: Ange’s smiling face and her moments of peace like this one. As the witch she treasured so dearly drifted off, Mammon leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. She made a silent promise, wordlessly swearing to make sure there would be no shortage of these moments forevermore. That was the one thing worth being truly greedy for.

Chapter 61: (GBF) Dressed Up (Katalina/Vira)
Summary:
Katalina retires from an Albion event, only to be happily joined by her dearest Lord Commander.
Notes:
(See the end of the chapter for notes.)
Chapter Text
Katalina shifted, against the balcony, relieving her cane of her weight for a moment. She took a sip of the champagne being handed out, closing her eyes and focusing on the taste to block out the sounds of the ballroom as much as possible. It was strange; she’d spent so much time surrounded by endless bustle and excitement upon the Grandcypher, but in the years that had passed at Albio, so many people gathered at once had become something of a nuisance. It was time she could be spending preparing on her lessons, or better yet, spent with Vira.
“There’s a whole party inside, and yet someone still has to be so antisocial,” the teasing sound of Vira’s voice assuaging any of those doubts as it echoed out over the Citadel below. Katalina felt herself relax instantly, her heart fluttering at the sight of her wife, dressed in a familiar red dress that made her head spin.
“I’ll admit, I’m not as used to the crowds as I once was.” Katalina smiled as she turned to face her love, keeping a grip on the balcony to support herself as Vira slid against her, wrapping her arms around Katalina’s waist. Katalina set down her glass upon the railing, bringing her hand up to cup Vira’s cheek, her love overflowing from her gaze. “Though, if such situations lead to moments like this, perhaps they aren’t so bad.”
She punctuated her sentence by closing the slim distance between their lips with a tender kiss, letting the rest of the world fade as she closed her eyes and focused on the bliss of having Vira so close. Katalina wasn’t sure how long the moment lasted, only able to make some guess as their lips parted and she had to fight to get some breath back.
“Oh please, it’d hardly take a word, let alone a ball, to win my affections all over again.” Vira’s expression softened from the confident demeanour her position as Lord Commander demanded of her, her tone following suit. She leaned into her dearest husband’s neck, letting herself recover from the exhaustion of the evening’s formalities. She took a moment to rest and recover, before tilting her head enough to smirk up at her love. “Though, maybe you have a point. If events like these get you dressed up so handsomely, maybe I might need to arrange a few more.”
“Is that so? I suppose having you look so ravishing has its benefits.” Katalina matched Vira’s smirk, letting her hand trail down her side to instead wrap around her slender waist and support her. The soft chuckle that escaped Vira only made Katalina tighten her grip, giving all the support she could to the woman who she could tell wanted to be here just as little as her.
The night seemed to still around the two of them, lost in their own world as they took in the scent of wildflowers carried by a light spring breeze. The chattering of the party just meters away seemed to fade away, leaving nothing but them, as it would always be and should always have been. Eventually though, Vira reluctantly pulled away, flashing a small apologetic look as she did so. As much as she just wanted to spend tonight and every night with her Katalina, her duty to Albion called.
“As much as I’d love to stay here all night,” Vira murmured, wanting to keep the tenderness of the moment as long as she could. “I’m afraid the Lord Commander can’t just disappear at an official ball.”
“Katalina smiled, grabbing her cane once again and standing up properly. As drear as events like this could be, she couldn’t decry anytime spent by the side of her dearest. Rather than force Vira to face the horrors of polite society alone, Katalina took the first step forwards, holding out her hand with a charming smile that made Vira near white out for a moment.
“Well then, my dear, shall we?”
