This is a love letter to both these worlds and to my favorite troupe ‘enemies to lovers.’ I’m sure there are fic’s out there with the same premise and I’m sure they are all wonderful.

This story and chapter are unnamed as of now but I will be incorporating songs that I believe go with the character and storytelling. I hope you guys can be a bit patient with me❤️

Chapter Text

Tenten waited on the platform for Lee to finally arrive. Jeez he was always late. This time clearly was no different. They were starting their 6th year at the Hogwarts. Surely he would be more punctual by now.

Tenten heaved a sigh, somethings never change. The train was meant to leave in 10 minutes. Tenten although laid back, hated being late. It gave her anxiety and Lee knew this. Why was he taking so long? Probably getting his last “youthful” work out in, Tenten rolled her eyes.

Ugh. This is just like him.

“TENTENNNNN!!!” Lee’s voice rang through the crowd. Tenten whirled at her name and stood on her tiptoes trying to follow the voice. “Lee?” She scanned the crowd. She could hear him but where was he?

There through the crowd running towards her, she saw him. His bangs were blowing in the wind as he ran full speed. Like everything Lee did.

“I’m sorry! Excuse me!!” Lee tried to push through the crowd. Gently at first, until about five seconds when he saw people were not giving him free way. “SIR!!” Lee ran past most people as they turned to glare at him. Lee did things at 100% never less sometimes more. He ran and pushed his way towards Tenten. She knew he didn’t mean to be late. He could be a scatter brain at times but he was her best friend. How could she ever be truly be upset at him. He arrived severely out of breath.

“You’re late” Tenten said as a couple passed by glaring. Tenten ignored them. Lee placed his hands on his hips and looked up trying to catch his breath. Then, with his hands on his knees bent himself forward.

“I know I was-“ he gestured as he continued to catch his breath. He jerked his thumb behind him then returned to his hands on his knees. He was doing breathing exercises now.

Tenten looked at where his finger was pointing. But she couldn’t see anything. She searched but she couldn’t find what Lee was pointing at. Then her eyes landed on the worst person Tenten could have ever imagined. A bigot and absolute asshole of a guy. Neji Hyuga. A sixth year, just like her, from House Slytherin. With his long and shiny hair, which was stupid, like him, and those eyes that were honestly, nothing to write home about. They were not special like she heard all those girls say. No, he was nothing special. He was totally average and Tenten hated him. He looked her way and she glared and looked way. Why did it look like he was walking towards her. That was ridiculous. Tenten scoffed at the though.

“I don’t know what you are talking about” Tenten moved passed Hyuga and continued to scan the crowd. Lee finally caught his breath. He looked towards Neji and waved. He waved. Neji, even more surprisingly, bowed his head as he continued towards her and this time Tenten was sure he was coming their way.

Tenten quickly lowered Lee’s excited hand and hissed. “What are you doing?” She was frantic. What was he doing!? Lee knew how much Tenten hates Neji. Not only that, but Neji has always been too good for anyone. He has looked down on Lee for years. Now, here he is waving at a guy who has done nothing but make fun of Lee and ignore any and all his efforts to be taken seriously?! Lee looked at her.

“Oh shot! I forgot to tell you!!” Tenten was fuming. Forgot to tell her?! SERIOUSLY?! “I apprenticed at his uncle’s company over the summer” Lee said sheepishly. Tenten takes back what she thought earlier. This was it! This is what would get her royally pissed off at her best friend.

Tenten was fuming. She couldn’t even- how did Lee even get that appretenship? Hyuga Core is infamous for not allowing any new recruits. That’s not the point Tenten. This doesn’t make sense

“You what?” She said in an almost deadly tone. How could he!? Lee knew Tenten would hate this and yet.

“Well, you see I was going to tell you but” he released a sigh. “Well you know how you are. And I know your history but it was a great opportunity” he looked down. “I’m sorry” he cheeks grew a little pink.

Tenten understood how important it was for Lee to learn and stand out. She knew the Hyuga company will help him do just that. But she couldn’t see that as clearly right now. It will take her a long time to see that. A very long time. Right now, she was pissed.

“Lee” Neji’s voice broke through her haze. She turned to look at him. Or up at him. He grew a few inches since she dared to stand near him 3 years ago. Not that Tenten noticed. He was horrid to look at. She crossed her arms and looked in the opposite direction. She was being childish but, screw it.

“Neji!” Lee bowed 90 degrees at the waist. “It’s nice to see you!” Tenten rolled her eyes. “Seriously” she muttered as she rolled her eyes. Neji’s eyes snapped to her. So he heard her then. Good.

An awkward silence followed. Lee cleared his throat. “Oh! Where are my manners! Neji this is my”

“No need.” Tenten held up her hand in interruption. “We’ll talk later Lee” there was warning in there. Hopefully Lee came to his senses before then. With that she looked at Neji one last time and rolled her eyes. She grabbed her luggage and made her way to the Hogwarts Express.

“Unbelievable” she said under her breath.

What was this girls problem?! Neji was shocked at such terrible manners. Lee was different to say the least, but to call such an awful girl his? What was it? He didn’t finish the thought though. Could that be his girlfriend? No. Surely not.

If his memory serves him right, and it always does, she is that muggle born girl from Hufflepuff. He seems to remember her dating a guy from Gryffindor. The twin buns are a dead give away. Her name escapes him at the moment but it must be her. So girlfriend she is not. A friend most likely.
Logistics aside, she is very rude. He watched her stomp away.

“Sorry about that.” Lee looked back at Neji. “She’s a bit-“
“Rude?” Neji interrupted.
“I was going to say particular. She doesn’t like strangers” Lee looked at her retreating figure. “She must have tons of friends” Neji said with dismay. Lee gave him a look.

“That was uncalled for” Neji cleared his throat. He’s trying to be better. He needed to remember that. Manners aside, he doesn’t know this girl and does not really care to. He does not owe her any kindness. As far as he is concerned his first impression is correct. And he does not care to change it. He might not ever have to speak to her. So no harm no foul he supposed.

“She’s really kind and amazing once you get to know her. A most loyal friend” Lee smiled softly. “I’m sure” Neji said sarcastically. Although this time, he really tried not to sound like it.

Neji looked at his watch. 5 minutes till the Hogwarts Express leaves. “Shall we go?” Neji looked at Lee and saw realization dawn “WE MUST HURRY!!” He set off in a sprint then remembered his trunk and returned. He then set off into high knees.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Notes:

Hello again! Here is the second chapter. Thank you for the kudos! I’m having so much fun with this fic and it means a lot that there are people enjoying it.

Chapter Text

Tenten was fuming. She lugged her trunk towards the Hogwarts Express. Lee could not be serious? Neji was a complete ass. What would they even talk about. It just didn’t make sense. Tenten wracked her brain for some sort of answer, but nothing, absolutely nothing came to mind.

She continued her spiral when she suddenly bumped into someone. A girl with very long blueish hair. The girl whirled around.

“I’m so sorry” she bowed and profusely apologized. Then she continued to bow.

“Woah! Hinata! Hey, it’s okay” Tenten put her hands up to stop her and smiled once the girl recognized her. She loved Hinata. She was kind and caring. The complete opposite for her insufferable cousin. No, Hinata was an absolute angel.

“Oh.” She blushed. “Tenten. S-Sorry.” Tenten shook her hand dismissively. “No worries. I was the one not paying attention” Hinata smiled. Tenten looked around, she was so distracted she hadn’t even noticed they were already inside the train and after Hinata’s constant apologies, they were now holding up a line of students waiting to find their seats.

Tenten looked behind her and some Slytherins were very clearly annoyed. They always had something to say. Hinata looked over Tenten’s shoulder.

“We better find our seats” Hinata mumbled as she quickly and awkwardly tried to carry her yellow suitcase.

“Are you gonna move or what?” The Slytherin, a second year by the looks of it, grumbled. Tenten turned around

“Lovely” Tenten grumbles.

Now, Tenten did not hate Slytherins. She has friends in Slytherin. One of her closest friends was part of the house. She wasn’t particularly hateful but every once a while, a Slytherin came and just absolutely ruined her day.

Because Tenten was orphaned at a young age, she didn’t meet her parents but those that did said they were very mundane. Muggles. Her mother was a writer and her father was a literature teacher. Not a lot to talk about there, at least not in the wizard world. Tenten was frequently reminded of this and because of her lineage, there was a word that Tenten will always hear.

‘Mud-blood’

It means a dirty or un pure lineage. It was terrible word that only the worst people in this world could use. Tenten deemed them the lowest of the low. Truly the bottom of the barrel. She hated it. She has heard it more times than she can count, and most times it has been from a Slytherin. That should say something.

“Tenten! Over here!” Hinata found a seat 3 carts down. Tenten made her way there.

When she arrived Hinata, Kiba and Shino were already there.

“Tenten!” Kiba smiled and lounged to hug her. Tenten ducked under his arms and took a seat next to Shino. Kiba’s momentum carried him past her. He stuck his hands out in an attempt to stop himself against the trains wall.

“Hey! Watch it” a passing girl said as Kiba almost knocked her over. She rolled her eyes and continued walking down the aisle.

“Sorry” Kiba put his hands up as the girl huffed by. He stared for a second. Then shook his head.

“She’s kinda cute” Tenten and Hinata rolled their eyes.

“Hey Shino” Tenten smiled.
“Ms. Wang” Shino bowed his head.

“Oh Kiba! Hi, I didn’t see you there”Tenten says smiling sweetly. “Haha. So funny” he rolls his eyes and walks back to his seat next to Hinata.

“Perhaps she dodged because-“ Shino starts

Her boyfriend” Kiba grumbly interrupts.

Tenten smiles. Kiba was very sweet but very flirty. He was a Gryffindor and a rowdy one at that.

She met him and Shino when she met Hinata. The three of them have always been pretty close. Shino was much more tamed and introverted. A Ravenclaw. Tenten loved Shino. He was a comforting presence, even if a little bit awkward at times.

And Hinata. The only Hyuga that has ever been sorted into Hufflepuff. The Hyugas are this long line of purebloods, all sorted to Slytherin, that own a lot of the ministry. Their company ‘Hyuga Core’ is leading in transfiguration as well as a very impressive line of aurors. Tenten supposed their lack of human emotion was the reason for their success. With no feelings, you can rise to the top pretty quickly by stepping on others. That’s the Hyuga way. Tenten bitterly thought.

Hinata she had to exclude from this. She was all things wonderful. Tenten looked at the girl with blue hair. She was an angel. A gorgeous girl with a great heart. How could such a kind soul ever be related to that family.

Tenten then thought of her boyfriend. Kiba had never crossed a line, she just liked messing with him. Her boyfriend, Hiro, who she started dating mid last year was a really sweet guy and Tenten was happy. She met him in her herbology class. He was interested in her and flirted with her and the rest just fell into place. She couldn’t see him this summer because he went to his lake house with his family. He promised to write but he must’ve forgotten.

Anyways, she missed him. But he wasn’t the reason Tenten messed with Kiba. Although flirty, he fell in love almost constantly. Tenten remembered when she met all her current friends. It was 5 years ago.

——————————————————————————

“This is it” Mrs. Nakamura gathered Tenten’s trolly with her trunk and suitcase. Tenten looked at the brick wall in front of her.

“9 3/4? How is that possible?” Tenten stood confused. She had been confused for some time. I mean, yesterday she was at the orphanage, a nobody. Completely unaware of this whole different world, that now she was a part of? She was a wizard? Or was it a witch? Technically? This letter arrived with her name on it and an invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft.

She shook her head and looked at Mrs. Nakumara. A truly sweet and kind old lady that took in Tenten after her parents died when she was just a baby. Her whole life, the one she has lived in the orphanage was turned on its head. Now she was meant to move to this school for witchcraft?!

“Yes.” She looked down at the piece of paper she was holding. “Yes, it says so in the letter.”

Of course. This letter that had just arrived yesterday as Tenten did her chores for the day. Her last 14 years of life felt like a lie. She was an average girl, a very lonely girl, but average.

“OVER HERE GAI SENSEI!” Tenten turned around to the voice. It was this boy with the strangest bowl cut she has ever seen. He had a hunter green knitted sweater with an “L” on it. He was pushing his trolley.

“Atta boy Lee!!” An older carbon copy of the boy yelled. Same bowl cut and everything! Tenten’s head kept swiveling between the two.

Mrs. Nakamura did not notice the obvious commotion behind her.

“There’s no instructions on how to pass through” she said. Tenten looked back at her in confusion. “Pass through!?” Surely she miss understood. How could a human pass through a wall? She wasn’t a superhero.

‘No. But you are a witch’ her thoughts corrected her.

“Alright Lee. Pay close attention” the older bowl cut man said. This caught Mrs. Nakamura’s attention. The older man looked around and began to whisper something in the boy’s ear as he gestured towards the brick wall. The boy had a face of pure concentration. His eye brows, which were extraordinarily bushy, drawn close together.
Mrs. Nakamura grabbed Tenten and walked towards the pair.

“Where are we-“
“Excuse me?” Mrs. Nakamura said. Both bowl cuts turned around, ‘they’re identical’ Tenten thought.

“Yes?” The older one awnsered as the young one just looked between Tenten and Mrs.Nakamura.

“Do you know how to” Mrs. Nakamura lowered her voice, “pass through?” The older man looked at Tenten. A beat passed, then he smiled. Very very brightly. Geez Tenten wondered if it hurt to smile that big.

“Absolutely! is it your first time young lady? It’s Lee’s first time as well!” He pushed the young boy, Lee, forward.

“Hello!” He bowed and brought his head back up. “I’m Rock Lee and this is Gai Sensei” and he extended his hand out to Tenten. Something about him was reassuring while also intense. He felt genuine in his excitement.

“Tenten” she bowed back and reached for his hand. He smiled just as brightly as the- what was his name? Gai Sensei?

Gai Sensei shuffled Mrs. Nakamura and Tenten towards the middle of the wall with the 9 3/4 was.

“The key is run full force at the wall. Precisely at the middle” he extended his arm out and closed one eye, as if visualizing his target.

“What?” Mrs. Nakamura asked in confusion. Tenten had had it. This was insane. She rolled her eyes and scoffed.

“I would like to go back to the orphanage.” Tenten pulled on Mrs. Nakamura’s sleeve. Sure she would be lonely if she went back but she would be sane.

As she pulled to go, bowl cut jumped in front of her. “At first it can be very daunting but once your start running all that goes away!” Lee smiled.Tenten blinked at him. A beat passed.

“Are you insane?” she said simply. Gai Sensei laughed uproariously.

“HA! Lee is passionate! He is just starting his spring time of youth” he stood behind Lee and grabbed his shoulder. Lee smiled and made fist at his side. Were they both misty eyed??

“If you are scared Tenten, Lee can go first.” Gai Sensei said. Tenten was about to snap back that she was not scared, this was just insane. But the words died in her lips when she saw Gai Sensei’s eyes. They were filled with kindness. A kindness Tenten had rarely experienced. She looked at Lee and he gave her a reassuring nod. She lowered her head and took a step a way from the brick wall.

Gai Sensei smiled and began giving Lee more instructions. Mrs. Nakamura grabbed Tenten’s hand.

“Straight through the middle Lee. You got this” he gestured towards the wall. Lee suddenly became overcome with emotion. He hugged Gai Sensei and began sobbing. He bowed deeply and aggressively.

“You are the best Gai Sensei!” Lee’s big eyes looked even bigger with all the tears.

“You are my best student Lee! Your youth is unparalleled!” Was Gai crying now?

What is happening!? Maybe trusting them was a mistake. Clearly they are crazy

Before Tenten knew it. Gai took a step back and joined her and Mrs. Nakamura on the side. Lee exhaled. His shoulders slump and his eyes closed. He ran straight towards the wall.

He ran straight through.

“Goodness!” Mrs. Nakamura looked at Gai Sensei who was beaming a little teary eyed.

This is magic

Something inside Tenten shifted. She could hear her blood roaring in her ears as she stared at the wall. Gai Sensei walked towards her. Tenten turned to Mrs. Nakumara.

“Thank you. For everything” Tenten said. Mrs. Nakumara replied with a tight hug.
“You take care of yourself.” Tenten smiled. This lady took her in as a baby and raised her. She was all Tenten had but she had always felt lonely. Like she just never fit, anywhere. Still, she would always miss the older women.

“Are you ready?” Gai Sensei said with a knowing smile. One that seemed proud.

“You’re a wizard as well? Like Lee?” Tenten asked. Gai Sensei pondered for a minute.

“More like a professor. Now, off we go” he guided Tenten where Lee had just been standing in.

“Right so, with your trolley you are going to aim towards the middle of the wall. Right there in the middle” he gestured with his hand and took a step back.

Tenten’s heart was beating out of her chest. She exhaled. She could do this. I mean Lee seemed to get through just fine, surely she could too. She griped her trolley till her knuckles were white.

And with that she ran straight into the wall.

Chapter 3: Chapter 3

Summary:

Hello again! Sorting Hat Ceremony!! This was a chapter I was very excited to write. I tried to flesh the characters out more and really hope you enjoy it. Also, I want to incorporate a bit of music and songs into this fic to really help the immersion. For this chapter, I listened to ‘Birds of a Feather’ by Billie Eilish and I feel like it works for the friend groups I have introduced so far.

Also, the Sand Siblings do not attend Hogwarts but they are in this fic. They are coming soon!;3

Chapter Text

Tenten ran towards the wall and moments before impact, she closed her eyes. She heard this whooshing pass through her ears and then loud chatter. She opened her eyes and she was at the platform. A completely different platform.

“You made it!” Lee was in front of her. He was smiling. He waited for her?

“Did Gai Sensei tell you to wait for me?” Tenten questioned. Something about that felt different. She couldn’t quite place it.

“He did. He said your spring time of youth was just starting!” He made a fist. Tenten looked around.

The platform was full of students and trolley’s. Owls in cages and cats stalking about. It was nothing like Tenten had ever seen. Students were saying their goodbye’s and boarding the train. A magnificent train. Tenten had never seen a train like this. She hadn’t even seen a train before.

“Come on. We have to get on.” Lee said as he began towards the train. Tenten barely followed as Lee moved through the crowd. She pushed her trolley along. How could a world like this exist? It was not at all what Tenten expected. Everyone looked normal. Tenten didn’t even know what to expect but they were kids, some only a little bit older than her. As she looked around she saw all these families. This word was not new. There were hundreds of students. They all grew up knowing about magic or whatever it was wizards and witches did. Tenten barely knew anything outside the orphanage. She had been there since she was a baby.

“Are you alright?” Tenten snaped out of her spiraling. She looked at Lee.

“I have no idea.” She answered honestly. She scoffs and Lee looks at her puzzled.

“Have you never heard of Hogwarts?” Lee asked. Now, normally Tenten would’ve taken this as condescending but something about Lee felt so pure. He was genuinely surprised that someone had not heard of what he had seen as normal all his life.

Tenten shook her head. She felt out of place in most places, but this one takes the cake.

“Okay. Well, I can be your guide. I’ve never been here before but Gai Sensei always says that these are our best years. The spring time of youth!” Lee waved his hands and hollered.

Jeez, was he always this loud? Tenten looked around and yep, people were staring. Something told her that would happen often.

“Okay. I get it. You can stop now” she tried to stop him when a boy passed by.

He was the most gorgeous human being Tenten had ever seen. She watched as he scowled at Lee. He paid Tenten no mind but he made her stop in her tracks. He had this beautiful long black hair. His skin was perfect and pale, not pasty but more so like a prince whose skin was too perfect to be tainted by the sun. He looked regal. And his eyes. The most wonderful shade of lilac.

‘He is beautiful’

Lee continued his rant about a “most beautiful friendship” Tenten couldn’t hear and she didn’t care. Who was this guy!?!

She tracked him all the way to the train. She couldn’t help it. He’s presence commanded to be felt.

“Alright. Let’s head to the train” she began to move around Lee but staring the way the beautiful stranger went towards. “We don’t want to miss our first day right?” Tenten said and chuckled awkwardly.

Lee smiled brightly. He gave her a determined nod and began walking towards the train. Tenten followed.

‘Who was that guy?’

————————————————————

Lee spent the whole train ride trying to fill Tenten in as much Hogwarts lore as he could. Tenten caught some of it but she was barely listen. She was trying, truly she was. Everything just felt like a dream.

“So that was the reason behind the whole chosen one-“
“Something from the trolley dears?” Lee was interrupted by this older lady. Tenten looked in her direction. She was pushing this cart filled with what looked like sweets, but not the ones Tenten was used to.

“Oh! Tenten you must try some” Lee enthusiastically called as he neared the trolley. Tenten followed suit.

“I’ve never seen these before.” Lee put his hand up. “I got just the thing” he took out his wallet.

“Can I have a chocolate frog?” This boy said as he approached the trolley. Lee inhaled sharply. Tenten looked at the boy.

His hair was blonde and messy. His clothes looked disheveled as if he had been sleeping. He had the brightest blue eyes Tenten had ever seen. The older lady by the trolley paused for a second. She reached for the chocolate frogs and handed it to the boy. He looked at Tenten and Lee. Then he turned and came back from where he had come from. Odd.

Lee seemed to release all the air in his lungs and asked for two chocolate frogs and some sort of jelly beans.

“Do you know that kid?” Tenten asked as Lee handed her a chocolate frog.

“That is Naruto Uzumaki” Lee said dramatically. “Everyone knows who he is. Well, not you I suppose.” Lee came closer and beckoned Tenten to do the same. She did.

“Legend says he has the fox demon inside him. The nine tails. A creature as old as time himself. Very powerful and very volatile” Lee shivered. He could not be older than Tenten.

‘He’s a kid’

“I didn’t think he would be allowed at Hogwarts. He’s completely unpredictable” Lee continued. Tenten couldn’t help thinking about both the trolley Lady and Lee’s reaction. They seemed scared of this Naruto. Tenten was sure the boy felt it. Now that she thinks about it, he looked angry or sad maybe? A silence settled before Lee broke it.

“You must try these” he pointed to the one in her hand. “That’s a chocolate frog. They are extra cool because they come with specific wizards card as a prize” he popped it in his mouth. Tenten opened her frog. Lee watched her carefully. All of a sudden it started moving. Tenten shrieked and flung it out the window.

Lee was hollering with laughter.

“Your face!!” He laughed and hit his knee.
“What the hell was that?!” Tenten stared incredulously at him. He continued laughing.

———————————————————————

Nothing could prepare Tenten for Hogwarts. Not all the lore Lee spewed in the train and certainly not her life at the orphanage. She was currently in a boat cruising through this lake on its way to the most beautiful castle. You heard her CASTLE, she had ever seen.

It was lit by lanterns making it a beacon in the night. She was in awe. Her jaw couldn’t close.

“Is it your first time?” Tenten snaped her head towards the voice. A girl. A very pretty girl.

“I can tell. You know with your mouth hanging open like that” she smiled. Tenten could tell there was no malice behind her comment. This girl had pink and long hair. She had emerald playful eyes. She had an air of beauty around her that seemed to follow her.

“Very funny” Tenten replied with a smile. “Before yesterday, I had no idea this place existed. Let alone that I would attend a school for wizards” Tenten rambled.

“Well, technically, you’re a witch” the girl contemplated. Tenten scoffed humorlessly.

“I’m Sakura Haruno” the girl extended her hand with a smile.

“Tenten. Nice to meet you” she shook Sakura’s hand.

The rest of the short ride was silent. The students were ushered out of the small boats and into the castle.

At every turn, Tenten couldn’t help but gawk. She was reunited with Lee in this big dining room, The Great Hall, they had called it.

Currently she was sitting next to Lee and other students her age. They were all sitting closest to where, what appeared and was later confirmed by Lee, the faculty were sitting.

“Do you think we can eat this food?” This chubby boy said across from Tenten said. He scanned the food infront of them like a man on a mission.

“Shh! Chouji!” This blonde girl next to him slapped his hand away. She was stunning. The type of stunning that made itself felt. The chubby kid, Chouji? Rolled his eyes.

“Can you believe him?” The girl said to the boy to her right. He had a spiked looking pony tail and looked extremely bored and annoyed. He had his hand on his chin as the girl continued to rant.

“This is such a drag” he said dismissively. Chouji dug into the food. The girl rolled her eyes.

Tenten looked around. Some students were still trickling in. Lee had also dug into the food.

“Hey, are you going to eat?” Lee asked.
“Are we waiting for something?” Lee slapped his hands on the table. The three students in front of them snapped their heads towards Lee.

“How could I forget!” He looked into Tenten’s eyes. “The sorting ceremony is about to start” Lee said excitedly.

“Have you never heard of the sorting hat?” The blonde girl scoffed. Tenten looked at her. After a moment of silence the girls eyes widen.

“No way! Were you parents muggles?” The girl asked incredulously.

“I don’t know what that means” Tenten said matter a factly “A muggle is a non magical. A person without magical abilities” Lee interjected.

“I never met my parents” the three students and Lee shifted uncomfortably.

“Oh”
“Jesus Ino. Keep your mouth shut next time” the boy with the spiked pony tail shook his head.

“I’m sorry to hear that” Lee said solemnly. Tenten looked around the table.

“Oh! No it’s okay. It was a long time ago go. No biggie” Tenten smiled sheepishly. Chouji gave her a smile and the blonde girl, the boy called her Ino, smiled but much more awkwardly.

“Sorry” Ino said. Tenten shook her hand dismissively.

“Anyway, what is this sorting party or whatever you said”

Lee launched into a spiel. A spiel about a very convoluted plot that was lost on Tenten rather quickly. After many hand movements and big gestures. Ino had enough.

“Okay! Don’t you see her eyes are about to fall out of her head?” Lee looked at a very confused and lost Tenten.

“Let me do it” she cleared her throat. The pony tailed guy rolled his eyes.

“Basically, Hogwarts is divided into four houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Each house has traits that are elemental to the house. For example, Gryffindor values courage, Slytherin is resourcefulness, Hufflepuff loyalty and Ravenclaw wit. So, the sorting hat decides where each student will go.” Ino started

“The sorting hat is here to do just that, sort. It is placed on your head and sees what is in your heart. It makes the decision as to what house you are best suited for” she finished.

Tenten nodded. “So a hat makes a- how long are we in this school?” She looked at Lee.

“Seven years” Lee said.
“Seven, thank you” Lee nodded proudly.

“It makes a seven year decision for us?” She paused. “A hat?” Tenten said slowly. Chouji snorted and the pony haired boy smirked.

“Well.. it’s all knowing. Did you not hear me say that it see’s what is in your heart?” Ino said incredulously.

“No. I heard you. But a hat?” Tenten said deadpan.

Before the girl could correct her. An older man walked to the podium and the room fell silent. This must be the third headmaster. Tenten remembered Lee mention him in the train ride. He was the current headmaster and one of the strongest wizards of the generation.

“Welcome back to Hogwarts. I’m glad to see all your familiar and eager faces. And to our new students, Welcome to Hogwarts” the Third said.

Applause and cheers sounded through the dinning hall. Lee was one of the few people hollering. Tenten clapped softly.

As the Third continued his speech, Tenten glanced around. There were a few new students. All wizards and witches with knowledge of this world. Tenten felt very out of place. Her eyes snagged on the professors sitting behind the Third. A specific professor, with very bushy eyebrows. Tenten snapped her head back at Lee.

“Is that Gai Sensei?!” Tenten asked dumbfounded.

“Of course! He is the best and most hard working professor this school has ever known” Lee said teary eyed. Was he always like this?

“Now that house keeping is out of the way. Let’s start our sorting ceremony!” The crowd went wild. The excitement was pulsing.

“Sakura Haruno” the third called. That was the girl Tenten met earlier in the boat on her way here. The pink haired girl made her way towards the podium, where a chair was waiting for her.

Once she sat, the third pulled this brown sack, was that the hat? Tenten squinted. The sack was placed on her head.

“Mhmmm” the sack said.

‘The sack said!?!?’

“Very interesting. Very smart. You would do well in Ravenclaw!” the hat roared. The girl seemed relieved. The table at the far right roared and clapped as the hat was removed from Sakura’s head and she happily made her way towards the table.

“Naruto Uzumaki” there was a hush in the crowd. It was the boy from the train. The one with a demon inside him? Wasn’t that what Lee said. The crowd was dead quiet.

The boy made his way towards the chair. Once he sat down, the hat was placed in his head. The hat roared as if burned once set on Naruto’s head.

The Third yanked it off. Naruto stayed sitting but there was an anger in his eyes.

“Are you alright?” The Third asked the sorting hat. The professors were all standing now. Some even reached for their wands. Their weapons? Were they planning on hurting the boy.

“Put me back on” the hat said. It sounded like he was out of breath. The Third looked at the professors and gestured them to sit.

Once the hat was back on Naruto’s head, the hat hissed.

“Enormous p-power. Great risk” the hat struggled to say. The boy closed his eyes and whispered something. Tenten was no lip reader but she could have sworn he whispered ‘please’

The hat contemplated some more. Finally, it said “Gryffindor!” the boy slumped in his chair. The Third removed the sorting hat and Naruto made his way towards the Gryffindor table. Tenten could not ignore the apprehensive looks he got once he sat down at the table.

“Next up, Rock Lee” Tenten looked at Lee. He smiled and took a deep breath. Tenten gave him a reassuring nod. Lee made his way towards the podium.

Before the hat was even on his head, the hat roared “Hufflepuff!” Tenten clapped and smiled. Lee smiled at her and went to his table where the other Hufflepuffs were. She noticed Gai wiping some tears. Of course he was. If there was anything Tenten was gathering about the pair was that they were very dramatic.

Tenten was nervous all of a sudden. The Third continued calling names but Tenten could hardly listen. Where would she be sorted into? Would everyone be as kind as Lee. That Ino girl called her parents ‘muggles.’ Would others look down on her? What if she didn’t fit in just like at the orphanage? What if she hated it here and couldn’t make it back? What if-

“Neji Hyuga” the Third called. A boy stood from one of the back tables.

‘It’s him’

It was the boy from the train. Tented strained her neck to watch as he walked towards the podium. Everything about him seemed regal. His walk and his presence. As if those around had to look at him and stand at attention. He made his way to the chair and sat. His back straight like that of a boy who had gotten everything he had ever wanted. Tented was enraptured.

The Third placed the hat on his head. “Ah yes. Yes indeed. A Hyuga” the boy lifted his chin, what was his name again? Neji?

“Slytherin!” The hat roared. Neji looked pleased, as did the other Slytherins.
“Surprise surprise” the boy with the pony tail said.

“Shikamaru Nara” the boy rolled his eyes and exhaled as if his name being called was the biggest inconvenience. He placed his palms on the table and lazily made his way towards the chair. His hands in his pocket the whole time.

Tented noticed a very similarly looking man sitting with the other professors. The spitting image of the boy sitting in the chair. He was rubbing his forehead as he watched the boy move so lazily.

He finally sat on the chair. The Third placed the hat on his head. The boy looked bored.

“Interesting. Very interesting. A lot of potential” the boy groaned. Something told Tenten he did not want to have “potential.” The hat continued

“But will you use it wisely or ignore it.” The hat seemed stumped with this one. “Hmm. Ravenclaw!”

Shikamaru made his way towards his table but not before casting a glance at the man sitting with the professors. The man nodded and the boy smirked.

“Sasuke Uchiha” the Third called. The crowd immediately began to whisper.

“I can’t believe he came” Ino said quietly to Chouji. This peaked Tenten’s interest.
“Where else would he go?” Chouji replied sympathetically. Tenten did not want to be noisy and looked back at the chair where the boy, Sasuke was sitting.

Tenten felt her breath leave her body. This boys face was nothing like Tenten had seen before. He looked bitter and resentful. There was an anger to him that ran deep. Was that what the whispering was about? Ino was surprised he came to Hogwarts but was that not the norm? Was this boy from the “muggle’ world as well as Tenten? The sorting hat was placed on his head. He scowl remained.

“It’s a shame his entire clan was wiped out. In one night too” a student whispered and shook his head solemnly. Tenten whipped her head. His entire clan? Wiped out?

“Ah another Uchiha.” This seemed like the wrong thing to say. Sasuke clenched his fist on his lap and closed his eyes. His lips were set in a straight line. The whispers started up a gain before the Third silences everyone with a single hand motion.

“Very well. Your emotions are heard. Slytherin!” The boy stood before the hat was even off his head and made his way towards the other Slytherins. He took a seat next to Neji. Tenten was staring and she knew it but she couldn’t help it. He was so beautiful she could barely do much else, god she needed to get a hold of herself. He was just a boy.

‘A very gorgeous boy’ she rolled her eyes at her thoughts. Before she could tear her eyes away, Neji looked straight at her. She jumped and looked away and at the chair.

‘Very smooth’

“Ino Yamanaka” Ino stood up and strutted her way towards the chair. Tenten could tell she was very confident. The way she walked, how she tossed her hair and waved at a man at the professors table as well as a few boys. She sat with poise and elegance.

“Slytherin!” The hat called. She hoped off the chair with a smile on her face. She walked towards the Slytherin table and sits rather close to Sasuke. She flipped her hair and stuck her hand out as an introduction. The boy simply scooted away from her and completely ignored her hand. Ino retracted her hand and smiled awkwardly.

‘So Sasuke is an asshole. Note taken’

Chouji came next and was sorted into Hufflepuff. A choice Tenten felt was very fitting. “Good luck” he said as he passed her by. She had smiled at him and he reassured her with two fist up. Tenten did it back.

“Hinata Hyuga” Tenten heard an ‘eep’ about two students to her right. She looked at the girl that emitted such a sound and saw a very, very red face. The girl had short blueish hair. Tenten had never seen such a color. The girl could buried her head in her hands.

“Hinata Hyuga” the Third called again. The girl seemed paralyzed.

“Hey. Is that you?” The boy next to her tapped her shoulder. He had brown messy hair and two red streaks down his cheeks. The girl violently shook her head. The boy looked around and poked her again. “You’re holding up the ceremony. Just go up there. How bad could it be? Not worse than people realizing you are avoiding the inevitable.” The girl looked at him with wide eyes. His eyes looked at her kindly. She took a breath and took a stand.

Tenten saw her eyes then. A very familiar shade of lilac. Tenten’s eyes immediately found Neji. He was currently locked in on Hinata’s movements. He looked annoyed. His eyes followed her with disdain and a bit of bitterness.

The girl, Hinata made it to the chair. The Third placed the hat on Hinata.

“Another Hyuga, from the main branch this time. Hmm. Not like the other one, no. Different. Worlds different.” The girl wrapped her arms around herself. It looked like she wanted to disappear completely. She closed her eyes tightly.

“Hufflepuff!” Tenten heard gasps ripple through the crowd. Hinata opened her eyes with a start. Even the Third looked suprised. Why was that surprising? The entire hall grew into chatter.

“Hufflepuff? But shes Hyuga?” A student called.
“What the hell?!” Another one.
“I mean look at her, how could she possibly be strong?” A girl said pitifully
“How embarrassing” another boy said with a smirk.

Tenten watched as Hinata, deflated, made her way towards the Hufflepuff table. She made it a point to look only at the floor as she went. Her cheeks pink. Tenten caught Neji watching Hinata with a disapproving look. The Third cleared his throat as a way to quiet everyone.

“Alright. That’s enough” The hall quieted.
“Tenten Wang” Tenten froze. He called her name. It was her turn but she couldn’t move. She could barely breathe. Everyone looked around waiting for her to make herself known. She had to get this over with. Surely, it would be done sooner than she expected. It had been pretty painless so far right?

Slowly, very slowly, Tenten rose from her seat. She exhaled through her mouth as she began her walk towards the chair. On the way there, Tenten saw Lee giving her two thumbs up. If only that was enough to reassure her. Finally, she made it to the chair. The Third placed the hat on her head.

“Hmmm. Haven’t heard of you before. This must be your first time here” the hat recounted. Should she answer? Was it that obvious.

“Where to put you?” Tenten looked around and once again her eyes found Neji. He seemed bored with the ceremony and instead chose to literally stare daggers at Hinata. Their eyes were very similar in color and with their peculiarity Tenten doubted it was a coincidence, they must be related. Her eyes then looked for Lee. He was actively waiting for her sorting.

“Hufflepuff!” The hat hollered. Lee was on his feet clapping and yelling. Tenten smiled. She felt a sense of relief. She was glad to be with Lee. The rest of the Hufflepuff table began clapping and cheering. Tenten made her way towards the table. She sat next to Lee with Hinata and Chouji in front of her.

“Kiba Inuzuka” The boy that poked Hinata made his way towards the chair. The hat was quick with him “Gryffindor!” The boy was ecstatic.
“Hell yeah” he said as he walked towards his table.

More students followed. The ceremony was coming to the end. Tenten felt the relief of all of it almost being over. She looked at Lee.

“What happens next?” Tenten asked. Lee pondered for a second.
“I believe our next course of action is to eat. To enjoy this beautiful and youthful feast.” Tenten looked at Chouji already elbows deep in pumpkin pie. Lee paused. “What is left of it” he said deflated. Tenten chuckled. She looked at Hinata who seemed to be retreating into herself. She truly wanted a hole to open up and swallow her. However, she noticed her eyes were trained on something behind Tenten. She tried to followed her eye line. Tenten turned was met with the blonde boy in his seat. Naruto seemed to be sulking. He was all alone.

“Shino Aburame” it seemed he was the last student waiting to be sorted. Once the hat was placed on him, it was decided that he would be Ravenclaw. The boy looked indifferent or maybe pleased? It was hard to see his facial expression with his dark sunglasses. Weren’t they inside?

“And with that the Sorting Ceremony has come to an end. Welcome all to Hogwarts.” All the students cheered and applauded. Some every hollered.
“Please, enjoy the feast. Your House Prefects will take you back to your dorms when you are ready” The Third finished.

The hall fell into a chatter. Tenten took this time to really admire the splendor. Big floor to ceiling windows surrounded the room and candles hung for the ceiling. No, they were floating. It was beautiful.

“I’m Chouji” he extended his hand out towards Hinata. The girl looked at him and blushed. She cautiously extended her hand to meet his. “I’m Hinata” She bowed for extra measure. Chouji did the same.

“I’m Tenten” Tenten waved.
“Lee. Rock Lee, but you can call me Lee.” He stood and bowed at 90 degrees. Hinata furiously shook her head and flailed her hands about.
“Please! You don’t have to do that” she stood in a hurry and knocked her drink over. This commotion caused some people to look at Hinata, one of them being Naruto. Once Hinata noticed he was looking she dropped to the floor. Did she just faint?

“Oh my god!” Tenten stood quickly. She ran to Hinata’s side. Chouji was there too and so was Lee.
“Hey! Hinata. Hinata!” Lee screamed on the verge of tears.
“Jeez Lee calm down!” Tenten scolded. Suddenly the girl shot up right. Her cheeks were still tainted pink.
“I’m alright.” She chuckled nervously. Her voice barely a whisper. Tenten was dumbfounded. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Hinata nodded. “Yes, I’m fine. Must have been the journey here. All the excitement” she reasoned. Tenten and Chouji helped her to her feet. Tenten noticed she was actively trying not to look in Naruto’s direction. Tenten saw his look of concern when the girl fell to the floor. Interesting.

Never in her 14 years of life could anyone have tried to convince her that she would be going to a school for wizards and witches. Yet, she had survived her first day here. Maybe this is where she is meant to be, maybe not. But she was determined to find her place.

Chapter Text

Tenten dragged her luggage out of the train. She took a deep breath. Something about being in Hogwarts always comforted her. Staying with Lee for the holidays was fun, but she missed the castle. She missed her bed.

“Oi!” Tenten turned around to see Kiba staring at this girl. “I’ll catch you guys later” Kiba said waving them off without even looking at them and ran off to talk to her.

Like she said, he falls very easily. Tenten sighed and continued her walk towards the carriages with Hinata and Shino.

“He must be tried of chasing girls. He’s gotta be” Tenten said. Hinata shrugged.
“He’s been like that as long as I’ve known him” Hinata looked around in question.

“Hey. I haven’t seen Lee. Is he not here?” Hinata asked.

She really did not want to think about Lee right now. The train ride did very little to quell her annoyance. She was being irrational, she knew. Tenten just could not get over it. How many times did she complain about Hyuga. Lee was very well aware of this. Yeah, the internship was a great opportunity but why would she still talk to him and even wait for him? Tenten sighed.

“He decided to make nice with the enemy” Tenten said bitterly. Hinata gave her a questioning look. Tenten was about to explain when she remembered one very important detail. Neji was Hinata’s estranged cousin. Probably not the best person to vent to. Hinata was a great friend but it will most likely make her uncomfortable.

“Ladies!!” Tenten heard a squeal before a pair of arms wrapped around her and Hinata squishing them together.

“Jeez Ino.. You’re squeezing me” Tenten said trying to shove her off.
“Hello Ino” Hinata said sweetly. Ino steeped back and smiled. Sakura was right behind her.

“How were your breaks?” Sakura asked. Tenten was the same as always. She had spent the holidays with Lee and Gai Sensei so it was full of magic training and training. Tenten took the time to practice and study her new Herbology books that Gai gifted her.

“I met the cutest boy over break!” Ino bragged. She was gorgeous and boys always seemed to flock towards her. Plus, she had the whole mean girl vibe working for her.

“Oh. So you’re finally over Sasuke? Finally gave up?” Sakura said with faux sweetness. Sakura and Ino were locked in this whole ‘love rivals’ thing. They had both simultaneously fallen for Sasuke and always fight over him. Never anything serious, but their feelings are true. Too bad Sasuke was too busy being “broody.”

“As if! If anything the distance made my love grow fonder” Ino said dramatically. Tenten wondered how they could still care so deeply for the guy. After all the drama with Naruto their fourth year at Hogwarts.

“My holidays were-“ Hinata started
“Sakuraaaaa!!!!” The girls all turned around to see Naruto running towards them. Hinata was froze. Whatever she was about to say died on her lips.

He was completely disheveled. Hair a mess, his clothes all lay askew. He reached them and smiled.

“Girls” he said in greeting. Tenten looked at Hinata, she couldn’t help it, the girl almost had a panic attack anything Naruto was near. It was probably her massive crush on him. They all knew, hell even the professors were aware of it. The only person who did not know about this huge crush was Naruto. Classic.

“What do you want? I gave you my money for the chocolate frogs” Sakura said grumpily. Naruto shook his head and blushed a little.

“Is not about money. Did you do the summer packet from Iruka. The Hogwarts Mystery?” Naruto asked. Sakura rolled her eyes.

“Hogwarts: A History. Idiot” She said. Naruto shrugged. “Sure. Yeah, that one. You have it?” He begged. Tenten chuckled. Naruto was not the strongest student Hogwarts could boast, but he was one of the most powerful wizards of his time. The nine tailed gave him enormous power and his determination made him a formidable force. To think that a complete outcast could become such a loved hero was truly a feat.

“No. I’m not giving you my work. You always copy it verbatim and then I get in trouble.” Sakura turned and kept walking to the carriages. The girls followed.

“Cmon!” He looked at Hinata. “Hey! Hinata how were your holidays?” Hinata’s eyes widen.

“Oh uh-uh th- they w-w-ere fun” she stuttered. Her blush had engulfed her face. Naruto smiled. “Yeah?” He chuckled. Hinata nodded quickly. Tenten smiled. God she was a goner.

————————————————————————————————————————————

After their arrival all students were expected at the great hall for the sorting ceremony of the first years. Tenten entered the huge space. The hall was decorated with the floating candles and smelled of delicious food. Food Tenten dearly missed. Lee and Gai had been on a health kick all holiday and decided that delicious food was no longer necessary and that Tenten should only eat food that would “optimize her spring time of youth” whatever that meant. But finally, she would be able gorged herself on all that the hall had to offer.

Tenten took a seat next to Chouji who had been chatting with Kurai the whole way here making Tenten very much feel like a third wheel.

“Tenten!” Tenten looked behind her. It was her boyfriend Hiro. She smiled and stood to hug him. Oh, she had missed him.

“Hey!” She kissed him on the cheek. “I wrote to you over break” Tenten said. “Yeah. I was superrr busy. Dad wanted to renovate the living room” Hiro said scratching the back of his head.

“Weren’t you at the lake house?” Tenten asked. If she remembered correctly, Hiro told her that it was his mom’s house and his parents were divorced.

“Yes. I was but I helped dad a few weeks before the break ended” He smiled and gave her a quick peck on the lips. Tenten decided to drop it. She smiled at him.

“I really missed you” she wrapped her arms around his neck. “I did too.” He told her.
He looked over her shoulder. “Looks like the ceremony is about to begin. I’ll see you later.” He gave her another quick kiss and made his way to the Gryffindor table. As he left, Lee came into view. Tenten rolled her eyes and took a seat at the Hufflepuff table. No sign of the Hyuga devil, so a good thing she supposed.

“Hey, I know you’re mad and before you yell at me, I brought you something” he unwrapped a puff pastry. Tenten could smell it. It was her favorite too. She looked at Lee with a deadpan expression. He smiled sheepishly.

“I nabed it from the kitchens.” He sighed. “Tenten, It was a really good opportunity.” He reasoned. Tenten felt bad. She knew how much Lee wanted a chance to be great. He was great. It was the least he deserved. But god did it have to be with such a dochebag of a family? Tenten knew she was being irrational.

“I know Lee” she sighed. She took the pastry. “I’ll take your olive branch.” She new Hyuga was an asshole, but today was probably a fib. Maybe Lee was just trying to be nice. She could not understand why to such a bigot, but hey, that’s where Lee was better than her. Better than most.

“You’re not his friend though, right?” Tenten asked seeking his agreement. She knew this vendetta she had against Neji probably felt very personal, and it was. But, Neji was just an asshole. Not only to her but anyone that did not fit his family’s description of what it meant to be a wizard. A ‘pure-blood,’ He was cruel and entitled. She was not the only one that thought this. Tenten did not fit that description and neither did Lee. His parents were both muggles. Gai had taken him under his wing before he came to Hogwarts, but still, he was muggle born.

“Well-“

“Welcome back students!” Lady Tsunade placed her wand on her neck to boost her voice making her sound like she had a microphone. The hall erupted in cheers.
Tenten tentatively clapped. Something about Lee’s tone made her nervous. Before she could spiral, Lady Tsunade spoke again.

“I hope your holiday were relaxing and you had time to rest and recuperate after your last set of OWL’s” the crowd once again hollered and cheered. They had just finished their mid-terms before break and had two months before their finals.

“Good. You are now ready for the absolute hell that is your finals. Better get back to it then.” She smiled a sickly sweet smile that would make any person wilt from pure dread. Lady Tsunade was a force of nature. There was a time, when Tsunade had first come to Hogwarts, after the Third’s death, it gave her chills just to think about it.

It was in her third year. One of the Thirds pervious pupils, Orochimaru, attacked Hogwarts during the Chunin Wizard Trials. It felt like ages ago. She remembers the castle prepping for a war. There was this huge snake that destroyed parts of the castle, but Orochimaru’s main goal was always the Third. He passed in the fight by sacrificing himself for Hogwarts. He would always be a hero. A kind one.

Tsunade was a different story. Tenten always admired her, but she would not call her “kind.” She didn’t even think she would call her nice. But she was strong. One of the strongest witches Tenten had ever seen.

“As you all may know, this week is the Chunin Wizard Trials” the crowd hollered. Students were yelling, nodding and clapping. Some were even jumping and fist bumping. Lee was about to burst with excitement. Him and Chouji were grabbing each other and whooping. Lee was on the verge of tears. Kurai was pulling Chouji down. Tenten smiled and rolled her eyes.

“Alright calm down” the cheers continued. Chatter began to spread around the hall. Lady Tsunade looked around and her good humor seemed to fly out the window. Tenten tried to grab Lee’s sleeve. Lady Tsunade grabbed her wand and placed it to her throat.

“Silence!” The entire hall fell silent. Lee and Chouji sat down. Kurai looked at Chouji with an ‘I told you so’ look. Lady Tsunade continued.

“This year we will have Beaubaxtons Academy and the Drumstrang Institute” Tsunade gestured to the doors just as they were pushed open.

First Tenten saw the prettiest girls she has ever seen. They were dressed in beautiful light blue silks. They giggled as they pranced through the isle. They were stunning. Someone let out a holler and the hall erupted in cheers. Mostly from the boys. Tenten rolled her eyes. Kiba was on his feet. Naruto laughed at him but a girl ran passed by and all his attention was on her. Tenten tentatively looked at Hinata. Everyone knew about her crush on Naruto. Well, almost everyone. Naruto was still oblivious.

Hinata had a sad look but one that she tried to hide. Her cheeks reddened when she noticed Tenten. God, unrequited love sucked.

‘You know that feeling well’ Tenten shock her head. She was passed that. Clearly.

After the Beauxtons made their entrance, it was the Drumstrang’s chance. This all boys school was known for their ruthlessness. Most of them were burly boys with angry faces. Tenten watched as they moved through the isles marching in unison. They would only stop to ‘huh!’ And stab their staffs to the floor. It was very theatrical and dramatic but some girls were really into it. At the very end of the group were three people had heard a lot about. They called them the ‘Sand Siblings.’

Tenten noticed Lee perk up. She followed his eye line and there it was. Gaara. He was one of the most talented and powerful wizards. The tattoo on his forehead was a dead give away.

He had a demon inside him, similar to Naruto. They called it the ‘One Tails.’ He had a pretty rough childhood and he was infamously known for being obsessed with blood. Now he walked down the isles and people were actively avoiding his eye contact. There was a hush in the crowd as he walked by. Behind him, were his two siblings. Temari and Kankuro. They all walked with their heads held tall. As they walked by, Lee kept his eyes on Gaara.

A few years back, Lee had an encounter with Gaara. This encounter almost caused Lee to permanently lose his ability to practice magic. Needless to say, Tenten was not a fan. She glared at him, hard. This cause his sister Temari to give her a death glare. Lee seemed entranced by Gaara, who was very actively avoiding him. They continued their walk to the front of the hall. Tsunade continued.

“Enough of introductions” She clapped her hands.

She loved the tournament! Everyone did. It was a tournament meant to creat lasting friendships and all that, but at its root, it was a competition. Skills were put to the test as well as wit. Excitement buzzed through the hall.

“It is Hogwarts turn to host. And after last time, we have taken a few precautions” Tsunade began to list the many new rules, the new age requirement, the friendlier version of the trials.

“Age limit?! That’s rubbish!” A third year yelled at the Griffyndor table. Tsunade waved her wand and turned the student into a ferret. Naruto burst out laughing falling off his chair. Kiba laughed. Naruto then proceeded to get up and punch Kiba in the arm.

“Anyways, those are our rules. Does anyone have anything else to say?” Her threat was clear. No one spoke. She smiled.

“Great. Now, lets get this sorting done with it”

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Notes:

Hi! It’s been a while but life has been hectic, but I’m very excited to be back!! This chapter is from multiple pov’s. I’ll probably continue alternating just because I love all the characters so much I want them to be fleshed out a bit more. But the main focus is still Tenten and Neji. I hope you enjoy this chapter. For the ending of this chapter I really set my writing mood with “Don’t Wanna Cry” by Selena Gomez and it really got me through it. :)

Chapter Text

Neji wanted to make his way back the common rooms. The assembly had ended about ten minutes ago and he was ready to leave. There was truly no need to linger.

“Yo! Hyuga” this irritating voice called behind him. Neji pretended not to hear the voice. He could ignore him if he just-

“Good evening” Neji stopped in his tracks. The guy basically manifested in front of him. Neji tried to remember his manners.

“Toneri” he said curtly and continued walking around him. Neji hated most things. This much he knew. But his hate for Toneri was a special kind. He was this slimy, two-faced asshole who could not seem, for the life of him, to get the hint. He swore he came from some moon god’s sacred lineage. He was just a puppet for the elders. A very annoying puppet.

“Are you going to the party at Gryffindor on Friday?” Toneri asked, trying to keep pace with Neji’s brisk walk. Neji rolled his eyes.

Gryffindor lacked propriety. A party house that barely cared about any morals. Neji did not know many of them but he could still attest to their lack of decency. He heard about these parties and he is not interested. He glanced at Toneri and scoffed.

“No? I heard Hinata will be there” Toneri said tauntingly. Neji stopped in his tracks. He looked at Toneri. He scoffed again and took a step closer. He was pissed.

“And why would I care? Need someone to talk you up?” He said sarcastically and smirked. Toneri tried to mask his anger but failed miserably. For all his pompous attitude, Neji knew Toneri wasn’t his biggest fan. If only Neji bothered to care what his thoughts were.

“I don’t care about your little games with Hinata” he spat “Better find someone else to try to gain favor with” with that he walked away but not before turning around once more

“Actually, now that I think about it, last I checked you lost major points with the main branch with that whole debacle with your OWL’s last semester” Neji said while feigning concern. “What was it again? Ah! Yes. Paying some ravenclaw to try to get an acceptable score?” He paused as if thinking. “But hey,” he threw his hands up “I’m pretty out of the loop nowadays” he smirked and continued towards the main hallways. Toneri stayed in his spot. Sweet satisfaction. And embarrassingly enough for Toneri, it was all true. Toneri lacked manners and brains and needed to buy his way into a semblance of relevance in the Hyuga.

“Neji!!!!” He heard someone screech. Lee. He had become familiar with the screech. This summer he heard tons of it. Lee had volunteered at Hyuga Core and against all odds, he impressed a few higher ups. Not enough to actually give home a job, but that was for separate, more outdated reasons. Neji bowed his head in greeting.

“Are you going to the Gryffindor party Friday?” Lee looked around as he asked. What a popular question. Neji rolled his eyes. Was this party meant to be a secret? Gryffindor always did these stupid parties. Every beginning of the semester. Neji didn’t think it was a secret.

Lee kept looking around. “Are you looking for someone?” Neji asked as he looked around as well. Lee snapped his head at Neji. “What?! No! No, I’m just-I’m looking for uhm” He paused to think. “Tenten! Yeah, that works. I’m looking for Tenten” Lee blushed a little as he said this.

That name sounded familiar. Where had he heard it before? Lee must’ve of noticed his confusion and clarified.

“My friend from earlier, at the platform”

Ah, yes. The rude girl. He saw her earlier. She was a Hufflepuff. She was with some Gryffindor guy. He didn’t know why that detailed stuck out to him, but it did. He saw her earlier with him. Something about the guy’s face was infuriating and also familiar. Neji had no idea why, and honestly did not care to find out more.

“I see. Are you to meet with her?” Neji wanted to leave before that. The girl was very unpleasant. Lee continued looking around. “No. I was just wondering if you were going. Everyone is going.” Lee said but his eyes were locked on something behind Neji. His curiosity getting the best of him, he turned around. Walking towards the courtyard were a few lingering students. But a very obvious presence was that of the Sand Siblings. Lee seemed locked on the red head. Gaara. Neji looked back and Lee was expecting his answer.

He taught about what Toneri had said about Hinata. Although his relationship with Hinata was not the best, non existent really, he truly hated Toneri and did not want to allow him any satisfaction. Although he was 100% sure Hinata was no interested. Her affections lied with who Neji believed to be one of the stupidest people he had ever met. Naruto Uzumaki. And if getting a choice between the two, Neji would probably pick the “Chosen one.” Not that it was his business but after what he witnessed this summer, his views on Hinata changed.

As a member of the main branch of the Hyuga, she was expected to be powerful and ruthless. Instead she grew to be loyal and kind. Hopeless really. Neji’s hate for her was a deep rooted anger and bitterness for the lost of his father and the way his side of the family was treated. He still remembers his anger towards her weakness. Everyone in the Hyuga was disappointed in the outcome of the future heir of Hyuga Core to be a weak little girl.

But this summer, Neji changed. His bitterness simmered when he saw how Hinata had changed. Maybe not changed, maybe he just paid a bit more attention.

“I doubt I will be attending” He said ready to part ways and make it to the Slytherin common rooms. Lee nodded.

“Well, if you change your mind” Lee smiled. Neji doubted it but curtly nodded before heading to the dungeons.

As Neji made it downstairs. He thought about the Chunnin Wizard Trials. Petty games at the end of the day but his blood roared with excitement. The castle’s energy felt charged. Everyone loved the Trials but they held more power for those who needed to prove something.

He made it to the entrance of the Slytherin common room, when he saw a couple. They were very intimate. Neji rolled his eyes for what felt like the hundred time. It was a Slytherin girl and a Gryffindor guy. Something about the guy looked familiar.

Neji took a closer look as the girl enthusiastically pushed the Gryffindor boy against the wall. Neji’s eyebrows furrowed. The dim lighting did little to give him a clear view. Now, he wasn’t a pervert. Far from it but something about the guy seemed so familiar.

It was the twin bun girls boyfriend. Her name escapes him now. Lee’s friend. Neji quickly looked away and hurriedly walked closer to the entrance.

“Pure blood” Neji muttered. The door’s to the common room opened. He entered and went straight to his bunk. How could that be? He had just seen them at the great hall. Did they break up already? He sure moves on fast. Neji shook his head. He would put what he saw out of his mind. Whatever was happening between them had nothing to do with him. He doesn’t even like the girl.

Neji loosened the noose in his tie. Yeah, it had nothing to do with him.

————————————————————————————————————————————

“Thats what I’m saying Hinata, you have to give it a shot” Sakura continued. Hinata shook her head violently. The girls were desperately trying to convince her to make her move, like they always did. Five years was a long time. They were currently in the courtyard when this random ambushed began. Hinata knows that they mean the best, but she was shy. Not a very easy thing to overcome, especially at the level she currently stood at.

Hinata had liked Naruto since she had seen him. During the sorting ceremony their first year, when he went to get sorted. The hushed voices were so cruel. Hinata remembers them so clearly. The whispers of ‘demon’ and ‘monster’ were uttered more than a dozen times. She grew up hearing about this boy with the power of a demon. He could end worlds with his magic, but when she saw him all she could see was a sad and lonely boy. A child that had suffered so deeply. Then she saw his eyes.

His eyes full of emotion. Hatred, loneliness, sadness. Her heart skipped a beat. She had seen him and she felt something inside her break. Here she was, a disappointment to her family and falling apart. While he walked towards the hat with his head held high. If he was affected by the names and whispers, he did not show it. How could he be calm and confident? Hinata wished she had an ounce of his self-worth.

She still remembered her second day at Hogwarts. Some Hyuga’s waited for her to come out of the great hall after dinner.

“No one in the main branch is anything but a Slytherin” one said as she turned the corner. Hinata kept her head low and tried to turn back towards the great hall. “If you’re really a Hyuga, you must be damaged” another rounded the corner. Hinata stopped in her tracks. This wasn’t good. As a the heir to the Hyuga, Hinata knew they would not dare hurt her but taunts were free game. She tried to go around him. But they began to crowd her.

Hinata staggered back a few steps until she hit the hall behind her.

“Hey! Cut it out” Hinata looked behind the bullies and she saw him. Messy blonde hair and those blue eyes. The boys turned around. Naruto was walking towards them now.

“Well if it isn’t the demon kid” the first boy laughed. He stepped up to Naruto. The boy was much taller than him. He looked down at him and smirked. They were most likely older, fourth years maybe?

“Leave her alone” Naruto said irritatedly. The boys began to surround him. Hinata could feel her pulse quickened.

“Or what? You’re gonna call the demon” he poked him in the chest, hard “monster” he chuckled. Before Hinata could react Naruto’s fist was flying at the boys face. She gasped.

The boy was caught off guard and took a few steps back dizzy. Naruto smirked. The boy’s friend stepped up and angrily began to punch Naruto. He grabbed Naruto by the collar and pushed him to the wall. Hinata heard his skull slam into the wall. Naruto huffed as the air left his lungs. Hinata watched in horror as he slid down the wall.

“Oi! Get to your common rooms. Now!” The voice roared. Whoever yelled did not feel the need to investigate. This stoped the boys. They ran and left Naruto there. Hinata could still not move. Naruto pushed himself up the wall. He sat up against the wall and threw his head back against the wall.

The blood on his lip was what caused Hinata to move.

“Oh my god!” She ran towards to him and got on her knees next to him.
“Are you alright?!” Hinata felt like she was on the verge of tears. Naruto touched his lip and pulled his hand back. Once he saw the blood he looked at Hinata. There was a pause. Hinata felt like all the air left her lungs. Naruto scanned her face for a couple seconds. He looked away.

“Yeah. It’s nothing. I’m used to it” he placed his hands on either side of him and pushed himself up and began to walk away. Hinata followed him up. She bowed at a 90 degree angle. Naruto turned back to look at her.

“I’m r-really sorry!” She squeaked out. She squeezed her eyes shut. Her heart was beating like crazy.

“Nah. Forget it” He said. Hinata’s eyes opened. Her head snapped up.

Naruto smiled at her.

She fell faint.

“I could never” Hinata said. It had been so long that if she confessed now she might look like a stalker. No, absolutely not. Ino, Tenten and Sakura were wrong.

“What is the worst that could happen?” Tenten said hopeful. Hinata snapped her head at her.

“He could hear me” Hinata exclaimed. Sakura rolled her eyes.

“You could shout it from the astronomy tower and he still wouldn’t get it” she said under breath. She sighed.

“Listen, Naruto is an idiot. But he is caring. You should be able to tell him your feelings. You can’t keep it bottled up Hinata” the girls nodded.

“Plus, maybe he is sitting on his own feelings?” Ino added. Hinata wanted to faint at the thought. No, she would not let this get away from her.

“Girls. I really appreciate your support but-“ Hinata stopped in her tracks. Her sentence died on her lips.

There he was. Naruto was with a beautiful girl, a Beubaxton girl. She had the palest blonde hair and beautiful amethyst eyes. Hinata felt frozen.

This was not the first girl Naruot had ever talked to. Matter a fact after he became known as the “Chosen One” he had become pretty popular. But, he never really liked or seemed to notice the attention. But this was different. Hinata could feel it. Her chances seemed to only get farther and farther away.

The girl was giggling at something Naruto was saying. He was smiling and scratching the back of his head. Tenten moved in front of Hinata blocking her view. Some terribly morbid curiosity overtook her, she wanted to see. She needed to see. Hinata tried looking over Tenten’s shoulder.

“Hey Hinata, they are just talking, no biggie” Ino tried being reassuring. It was not helping. Hinata could feel herself spiraling. Then all of a sudden Sakura started marching towards Naruto. Hinata grabbed her arm. Her eyes wide.

“Where are you going?!” Hinata whisper yelled at Sakura. Sakura turned around.

“That girl is not good news. She came to the last Chunin” She looked back at the pair.
“Naruto should know” Sakura said.
“Well, maybe now is not the best time” Tenten started
“I think it’s a great time” Ino smirked. Tenten rolled her eyes.
“Let’s just calm down” Tenten finished.

Hinata continued looking at Naruto and the Beaubaxton. He looked carefree and happy to be there. Like he had dreamt about it. Hinata felt the overwhelming sense of rejection and slowly the facts started to dawn on her.

She would never be able to tell Naruto how she feels. She had waited far too long and now it was too late.

“I think I’m going to go back to the common rooms. I’m actually pretty tired now that I think about” she tried to smile.
“Ill uhm- I’ll see you guys later” she tried to wave cheerily but she probably just looked like she was grimacing.

With that she turned and made her way towards he kitchens.

———————————————————————————————————————————

“The party is going to be so awkward now” Ino sighed as the girls watched Hinata leave. Sakura slapped her arm.

“Have some sympathy Ino pig” Sakura remarked. Tenten kept her eyes on Hinata.
“Hey! I do have sympathy. Matters of the heart are just very complicated.” She said looking pointedly at Sakura. Sakura returned to look. She looked back at Naruto and the girl, who was laughing very loudly.

‘No way Naruto is that funny’ Sakura rolled her eyes.

“I should warn him about her” Sakura said as the girl began touching his arm.

Sakura remembered her from the last Chunin. When Naruto wasn’t the “Chosen One” she could have not been less interested in him then. Sakura even remembers how she looked down on him. Truth was Naruto liked her as soon as he saw her 3 years ago. Sakura saw him fawn over her and hated that she seemed to like Sasuke more. Which Sakura was most definitely not a fan of. Now, she’s interested?

“Something is off” Sakura said as she watched the pair. Sakura started to make her way towards Naruto when Sasuke joined them. She stopped in her tracks and her heart skipped a beat. Sasuke when straight to Naruto, not even sparing the Beaubaxton a second look. This made Sakura very happy. To her enjoyment, the girl seemed to be annoyed by this. Sakura couldn’t hear what they were saying but Naruto seemed to wave Sasuke off, but Sasuke was unmoving. Then Sasuke made eye contact with Sakura so suddenly that she gasped. He seemed to linger and gesture to Naruto. Naruto looked at Sakura and excused himself from the Beubaxton and they both made their way towards her.

Sasuke was walking towards her and all she could do is self consciously pick at her clothes and try and fix whatever hair that could be misplaced. He looked incredible. The definition of class and elegance. There was something about his aura that just exuded confidence. His robes were always ironed and perfect, nothing ever out of place.

“Tell him” Sasuke said in form of greeting. Sakura was confused.

“Huh?” Sasuke rolled his eyes.

“Tell him about that girl you were just starring dagger into” Sakura was still confused. How long had he been in the courtyard?

After a few seconds of trying to gather her thoughts, she remembered. Sasuke had been there when this girl was talking about Naruto and looking down on him for being a “monster” and having the nine tails in him. He was indifferent at the time but now, Naruto and Sasuke were more like brothers. Joined together by trauma and friendship. They all were. After what Sasuke did, Sakura shock her head.

“Oh! She’s bad news Naruto” Sakura started. She had to be gentle, Naruto didn’t need to be hurt but better he know now before he becomes enamored. Naruto rolled his eyes.

“Can both of you stop with these half answers?” He said crossing his arms and leaning towards Sakura.

“If this is one of your ‘feelings’ I really don’t want to hear it Sakura” he continued.

“It’s not a ‘feeling’ idiot, it’s called intuition. But I have proof for this one.” She looked at Sasuke, who nodded. Sakura sighed.

“Me and Sasuke heard her at last Chunnins. She was talking lowly about you Naruto. She was very harsh” Sakura looked at her shoes. She hated having him relive moments like this. She wouldn’t wish his past on her worst enemies.

“She telling the truth” Sasuke added. Naruto looked at her then at Sasuke.

“Thats it? That’s what makes her terrible? Didn’t Sasuke look down on me when we met? Didn’t you?” Naruto said expectantly.

“If that’s what makes her sooo bad then that makes you guys terrible people” He continued. Sakura scoffed offendedly. Here she was, trying to spare his feeling and he pulls this crap?

“It’s not the same” She crossed her arms. What was his problem?
“She only interested in you because she thinks you’re the chosen one.” Sakura said.

“I’m the chosen one” Naruto said placing his hands in his pockets and smirking.

That’s it.

Sakura launched herself at him.

Chapter Text

“Ow! Sakura what the hell!” Tenten turned to see Sakura attach herself to Naruto like a spider monkey.

“Oh!” Ino laughed. What the hell was happening?

Tenten ran towards them. Sakura was pulling at Naruto’s hair now.

“Sakura get off him” Tenten tried prying her off but to no avail. God she was strong.
Ino kept laughing and holding her stomach.

“You’re. Such. An. Asshole” Sakura enunciated each time she smacked Naruto. All Naruto could do was protect himself from the barrage of hits. Sasuke seemed to be enjoying the show until Tenten looked at him incredulously. He rolled his eyes.

He grabbed Sakura and with the ease of lifting a feather he got her off Naruto. He held her arms behind her back but that did very little to restrain her anger. Now, this would’ve floored Sakura but she was blinded and very occupied.

“I swear! I’m trying to be nice and warn you and you act like a dick!” She said as Sasuke walked her away from Naruto.

Tenten looked at Naruto. His hair was all over the place from where Sakura had pulled it. His tie was loose and the first few buttons of his shirt were ripped off. He looked confused and pissed off.

“I didn’t ask for your help Sakura. Shion is interested now so why does it matter? The past is over with right? Isn’t that what you always say?” Naruto yelled at her. This caused sakura to still. Sasuke made sure Sakura was calm enough and stepped away from her. He walked back towards Naruto and grabbed his arm. Naruto slipped his arm away from him.

“You’re being a dick. Let’s go” Sasuke said in cold tone. He looked at Sakura as Naruto grabbed his bag from the floor where he had dropped it when Sakura launched at him and huffed away with Sasuke right behind him.

After a few moments of utter silence.

“What the hell just happened?” Tenten looked at Sakura.

“Are you okay?” Ino asked gently. Sakura seemed anything but okay. She stomped her foot.

“Ugh! He is such an idiot. God, I can’t believe him!” She stated angrily, but there was something else there. Tenten just couldn’t place it.

“Ladies, curfew is approaching, please make it back to your common rooms at once” Shizune stood at the entrance to the courtyard. The girls made their way inside.

“I’ll see you guys tomorrow” Sakura said resigned and made her way towards the Gryffindor common rooms. That was going to be one awkward place to be tonight.

“I wonder what got them so upset” Tenten said aloud. Ino looked at her.

“If I were to guess, she probably told Naruto about that girl and Naruto being oblivious to girls, probably said something dickish” She shrugged. With those parting words she waved Tenten goodbye.

Tenten continued her way towards the Hufflepuff common rooms. As she walked she remembered Hinata’s face as she walked away. She looked so defeated. Naruto was completely unaware of her feelings. She couldn’t completely blame him, if she was being honest. Naruto had more than enough on his plate. As the chosen one, his life was in danger more times than Tenten could remember. Not to mention his training in the dark arts.

A few things were bound to evade his notice. But Hinata was so in love with him, sometimes it was painful to watch. She loved Hinata and seeing her so head over heels for someone that might not reciprocate her feelings was something Tenten could not handle sometimes.

‘Sound familiar?’ The voice in her head said. A voice that was really starting to irritate her. She rolled her eyes.

She made it passed the kitchens and was now in front of the very familiar barrels. Tenten tapped the barrel.

Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.

The large barrel to her left opened up. As Tenten passed through, the smell of earth filled her nostrils. God she missed that smell. Tenten smiled and made her way in. Some students were hustling about still. She noticed Lee was one of them. He was sitting in one of the couches going over wand moments.

Lee struggled more that most with magic. Although he was incredibly talented and determined, magic did not come naturally to him.

“Hey” Tenten smiled and sat next to. He was in his all green pajamas. He looked up and smiled. He continued practicing.

“Hey. Why you coming in till now? Where did you go?” Lee asked. Tenten thought about the very eventful hour she had with the girls and the whole Sakura/Naruto fight and sighed. She condensed the story and told Lee.

“So an eventful night” Lee shook his head. Tenten nodded and leaned back on the couch. She closed her eyes.
“Yup” She added. She felt the day’s weight land on her at that very moment.

Lee stopped his practicing and put his wand away. He cleared his throat. Tenten peaked one eye open.

“I need to talk to you about something” Lee said. Tenten had a feeling she was going to hate this conversation.

“Okay. What is it?” She said but her gut screamed at her. God she hopes she’s wrong. Lee took a deep breath.

“You know you’re my best friend, and I love you very much right?” Lee started. Tenten sat up straight.

“I know that Lee. I’ve never doubted it” she said. Lee seemed nervous. Tenten rolled her eyes and laughed.

“You’re being dramatic” she said but she did not believe it.

“Just making sure. I love and respect you very much. But, I’m friends with Neji” He rushed the last part but Tenten heard it in slow motion. There it was, the terrible, unnerving and inevitable news.

Lee lived in this world were no one could do harm. Everyone was this magical and kind being that was just trying their best. His kindness was used against him more often than not, but he refused to change any of his views. Admirable but annoying in times like these.

“What?” Although she expected the news, the blow was still crushing.

Was Tenten being dramatic? Maybe, but she surely didn’t think so at this point.

Lee sighed.

“Tenten, he’s a nice guy. He’s changed” He tried.

Tenten rolled her eyes and stood abruptly.

“People like him don’t change!” Tenten raised her voice.
“This is the Hyuga Lee. This is generational. For years they believed what they have. You think he is going to be different? Did you forget what he has already done? To Hinata, to Naruto to-“

“I know! But he is different! He’s trying Tenten” Lee pleaded. Tenten huffed and sat back down. God she was tired. She put her hands over her eyes.

“Fine Lee. You win. You want to be his friend, go for it.” She started.
“But I cannot hang out if you are near him. I’m sorry I just wont do it” Lee nodded.
“I understand. I’m not asking you too” Tenten looked at him and saw just how relieved he was.

“But, if he does something to hurt you, I’m not above using an unforgivable curse” Lee laughed. Tenten was not joking. She gave Lee a pointed look.

“Okay not a joke” he cleared his throat.
“Understood” Tenten rolled her eyes and gave him a hug.

“If that is all,” she stood to go “I’ll be on my way. See you tomorrow” She turned to go and walked straight to her bunk.

“‘Good night” Lee called after her.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

During breakfast, things were strained to say the least. Ino had made her way to the great hall for some breakfast when she saw Sakura sitting at the Gryffindor table angrily eating her French toast. She was definitely in a mood.

“Hey billboard” Ino said, as she did each morning. It was her greeting to her lovely friend and love rival.

Sakura did not respond but Ino noticed she was intently staring at the Slytherin table where Naruto and Sasuke sat. Ino sighed.

“So, I’m guessing you guys didn’t make up?” Ino asked. Sakura put her fork down.

“Why is he mad at me when he’s in the wrong?” She said incredulously. “I told him a simple fact and he flips out at me? Sasuke said the same thing, basically and he’s not getting any silent treatment” Sakura rolled her eyes.

Hinata and Tenten joined them at the table.

“Good morning ladies!” Tenten said cheerily. Hinata waved silently and took a seat across Sakura while Tenten sat across Ino. Tenten seems to notice the grimness of the table.

“What’s up?” She asked curiously. Ino looked at Sakura as she angrily bit into her French toast. She rolled her eyes.

“Our little Sakura here, is mad at Naruto because of what happened yesterday, and poor Sasuke has been dragged into the mix. In short I can shoot my shot with Sasuke now, cause she is done with him” Ino stood from the table.

Sakura grabbed her and slammed her down on her seat.

“Sit down. I’m not done with Sasuke” Her eyes softened. Ino rolled her eyes.
“No back bone” She laughed. Sakura slapped her arm.

Although it was for fun sometimes, Ino was also in love with Sasuke. He was the hottest guy in Hogwarts. No contest. Ino had liked him since she saw him. She would probably always like him.

“What happened yesterday?” Hinata asked. She seemed scared to know the truth. Morbid curiosity Ino thought. Tenten looked at Sakura. She should be the one to explain. Sakura sighed.

“The girl Naruto was talking to yesterday, well she gives me very bad vibes” Sakura started.

“At the last Chunnins, me and Sasuke heard her talking about Naruto in a very low way. She was making fun of him” Sakura looked pissed all over again.

“I tried to tell him and he was an absolute ass about it so we fought a little bit” Sakura shrugged.

“A little bit?” Ino laughed.
“You jumped him” Ino continued.

Hinata looked horrified. She chanced a look at Naruto who was now coming towards their table. She swiveled her head back so quickly Ino was surprised she didn’t get whiplash.

“I need to talk to you” Naruto said as he got to the Gryffindor table. Hinata kept her head down but Ino could see her blush.

“Oh. I’m sorry who are you talking to?” Sakura said with mock confusion. Naruto sighed as he put his thumb and his index finger on his eyes.

“Sakura, don’t be difficult” Naruto tried to look annoyed but, he seemed nervous.

“Okay” Sakura crossed her arms. “Talk” she said.

Naruto looked around he table as Ino and Tenten stared at him. He coughed

“I meant in private” Sakura rolled her eyes and looked away.

“We can go” Tenten smiled awkwardly. She stood up. Hinata followed her. Ino was a bit reluctant but she followed the girls. Naruto took a seat after they all left.

The girls moved to the Hufflepuff table where Lee, Chouji and Chouji’s girlfriend Kurai sat.

“Hey ladies” Chouji smiled.
“To what do we owe the pleasure?” He joked

“Sakura and Naruto got into a fight and now they are talking about it” Ino answered.

“Really?! Aren’t they like best friends or something?” Kurai asked.

“They are close which is why it is so intriguing” Lee said.

Hinata just watched silently as they spoke.

“Hey, you okay?” Ino asked as the table settled into a chatter. Hinata looked away.

“Yeah. It’s just, I-I don’t know” Hinata fumbled. Ino playfully rolled her eyes.

“Our Hinata, always so eloquent” Hinata smiled.

“It’s not important” She turned to look at Naruto and Sakura.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

“Talk” Sakura said coldly. Naruto rolled his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I acted like a dick yesterday and I shouldn’t have said that to you. You didn’t deserve it.” He looked down at his hands. He was fidgeting with them as he spoke.

“I’m not sure what got into me but I’m sorry” he finished. Sakura looked at him and sighed.

“I’m sorry too. Maybe I was a little bit intense. That girl just, gives me a bad vibe Naruto” She finished.

“I really like her Sakura” Naruto continued.

Sakura wanted to tell him. She wanted to tell him about Hinata and how pure and relentless her love was for him. A love he deserved. Someone that had loved since before anyone else. A person that had always defended and stood by him even when no one would.

She looked behind his shoulder. A table down where Hinata sat with the girls.

Sakura couldn’t do that to her. An idea occurred to her at that moment . She wouldn’t tell Naruto about her but she would make him notice her. Hinata was gorgeous, and although Naruto was an idiot, he was not blind.

“Okay. If you really want to peruse her. I’ll leave you to it. Just know that I warned you. I wash my hands of this” she smiled. Naruto chuckled and nodded.

“Noted” he smiled.

“Are you going to eat that french toast?” He asked.

Hope you guys enjoy:)

Chapter Text

Shikamaru ate his toast as he watched Naruto. He’d been bitching about his argument with Sakura or how Sasuke liked to remind Naruto, how he got his ass beat by Sakura. Not that Shikamaru can fault him, Sakura was scary strong. He’s pretty sure any guy would absolutely get his ass handed to him by her. Although it being Naruto made it funny as hell. Shikamaru always made sure to steer clear of any conversation that would prove too tired some. He never understood how someone could put themselves in situations like Naruto. He wanted a smooth sailing his time here at Hogwarts. He was dam sure was going to get it.

He chewed lazily as Chouji sat in font of him. He had a plate that could barely fit anything else on it. He had toast and eggs that piled on the plate making it look like a mountain of pure grub. He sat with hmph!

“Did you hear about Naruto getting his ass handed to him by Sakura?” Shikamaru couldn’t help but smirk. He was sure the entirety of Hogwarts had heard the news.

“So I’ve heard” He replied as he watched Naruto take a seat in front of Sakura and take her plate and whatever left over she had on it. He stuffed it into his mouth as if Shikamaru had not seen him eat three full plates of breakfast not 10 minutes earlier. Chouji turned his head to follow Shikamaru’s line of sight. Naruto continued talking animatedly. Chouji turned back around and dug into the mess in front of him.

“Guess they’re over it” he said with a shoulder shrug.

That’s always the way Naruto fought with someone. Especially those close to him. He could never hold a grudge, not with those two at least. Shikamaru turned his head down the table. He found Sasuke watching both of them. Those three have been through quite a lot, yet there still seems to be a rift between Sasuke and Sakura.

Shikamaru sighed, jeez he hated theatrics.

“Are you planning on joining the Chunnins this year?” Chouji said in between munches. Shikamaru thought for a second. He remembered the last conversation he had with his father durning the holidays.

“The Chunnin Wizard Trials?” Shikamaru asked. His father nodded as their mother prepared their dinner.

Shikamaru looked at the shogi board infront of him. His dad was winning as always.

“It’s Hogwarts turn to host it” Shikaku continued. “They have taken different measures and are planning for a safer game. Though, there are still talks” he seemed annoyed. Shikamaru knew better, no point in asking. His dad was like a steel trap of secrets for Hogwarts. The Ino-Shika-Cho Team was well known for that. No, Shikamaru knew his father, and he would only divulge what he need to. No more, no less. Shikamaru moved his shogi piece towards the center of the board.

“I think I’m sitting this one out” Shikamaru said as he made his move, his father was winning but not for long. Shikaku looked up from the shogi board. He grunted.

“To lazy son?” He smirked. Shikamaru knew what this was. A classic move from his father. Trying to bait him to a reaction, however Shikamaru was really not in the mood to hear all about “the will of fire” or whatever nonsense his dad believed could rile him. No, this year Shikamaru would take it easy. He looked out from his terrance and at the clouds. God, he was envious. To be a floating mass up high where no one could bother you, now that was the dream. He sighed.

“It no use when in my first Chunnins I was the only one to make it through to its entirety” Shikamaru shrugged. Shikaku crossed his arms and leaned back.

“Perfect” he nodded once, resolute.
“You will be in charged of them” His father moved his final piece. Shikamaru looked down at the board. His king was surrounded. No where to go.

‘Fuck me’

“Tsumi” Shikaku said.

Shikamru rolled his eyes at that old geezer. He got exactly what he wanted. Shikamaru later found out that he really had no choice in the matter, his fate was sealed when Shikaku offered him up like a lamb to Lady Tsunare’s open jaws.

“Apparently I’m in charged of them this year” Shikamaru said. What a drag.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————--

“What?!” Ino called out as Sakura explained her new plan. Tenten watched as the pinkette continued. They were currently sitting in Potions class. A class Tenten enjoyed. She was pretty good at it if she was being honest with herself. After recounting her conversation with Naruto, Sakura divulged her new plan to Tenten and Ino.

“It’s the only way, Hinata is not going to do it and Naruto is too oblivious. We’re going in circles here” she whined. Sakura has resolutely decided that she would have to step in to avoid Naruto and Hinata’s hearts getting trampled. Now, Tenten was not a meddler and although she wanted nothing but both of their happiness, she wasn’t entirely sure this was the way to go.

“Have you told Hinata about this brilliant plan?” Ino said sardonically. Tenten highly doubted that. No way Hinata would be down for this plan.

“Thats not the point. Hinata is too kind and would not be interested in any sort of scheming but surely you’re down” she said as she looked at Ino, “Right?” Ino looked unsure but seemed to give it more thought.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea Sakura” Tenten piped up. If either of them found out, it would not be pretty. Hinata would be mortified. Plus, either one of them could end up being hurt regardless. If Naruto decided that he truly wanted to pay attention, surely he would see right through the scheme. He would be pissed to be used like that, and all things considered he would be even more pissed at Hinata being used a puppet.

Tenten thought back to a year and a half ago when the nine tails demon almost over took him when Hinata was in danger. Chills erupted on her skin with the thought. Naruto is fiercely loyal and although he loves Sakura and would never hurt her, he would be royally ticked if Hinata was involved in a scheme.

“I think it could work” Ino said. Both Sakura and Tenten looked at her. Tenten incredulously while Sakura looked triumphant. Ino shrugged.

“I mean Hinata is a saint and absolutely stunning. If we open Naruto’s eyes then maybe we can get somewhere. It’s a win-win” Sakura nodded along with a grin and clapped her hands.

“So it’s settled!” Sakura said excitedly. Tenten was about to point out the many cons to this plan when a message came through the loud speaker.

“All students please make their way to the Great Hall, I repeat, all students to the Great Hall please”

“This whole thing can bite you in the ass you know” Tenten said as the girls made their way out of the class and into the hall.

“What can bite your ass?” Lee manifested behind her. Jeez sometimes he moved like a cat. Tenten looked back startled clutching her chest.
“Jesus! Lee! You almost gave me-“ her sentence was cut off. Lee wasn’t alone. There was this presence that felt unnerving. Ominous really. Tenten’s eyes slide to Lee’s left. There she found a black mass. Robes and very broad chest. One that Tenten did not need to appraise as much as she did. Then her eyes traveled upwards and, there it was.

Those eyes. Those stupid eyes. Hyuga. Sakura responded instead.

“Nothing you need to worry your head about Lee” Sakura saw the boy standing next to him. She gave him a polite smile. One he returned with a bored expression. His eyes slid to Tenten and she couldn’t help it. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. Hyuga looked offended. Good. There was no world where Tenten found herself exchanging pleasantries with this guy. No way. She glared at him. Something Hyuga did not seem to appreciate.

The girls looked in between them. No doubt feeling the hostility they were showing each other. The girls did not know about her past with Neji Hyuga. Only Lee knew which made her turn her glare to him.

Did they not talk about this yesterday? She could not be in this guy’s vicinity. No she needed to stay far away from him. She looked at Lee expectantly.

“Do you have a prob-“
“Let’s head to the Great Hall!” Lee interrupted Hyuga.
“I’m sure the announcement has something to do with the Chunnin Wizard Trials. Best not miss it!”

“I second that!” Ino said cheerfully as she grabbed Tenten and Sakura by the crook of their elbows and pulled them down the hall. Tenten let herself be dragged away. Was he about to talk to her? Directly? It sounded like he was going to ask if she had a problem with him. Tenten scoffed humorlessly.

‘Who does he think he is?!’

Tenten’s head swiveled around to watch him. He was following them as he spoke to Lee who was very animated responding back to him.

Did she have a problem with him?! Was he not also glaring at her? God! Who does this guy think he is? Was Tenten being rude? Yes. But it was completely warranted. He was an asshole and as far as Tenten knew, asshole trumps rude. Her logic might be flawed but Hyuga was wrong, regardless.

She could feel her anger start to rise. Then as if he could read her thoughts, Hyuga eyes snapped to hers and she quickly looked away. She hated how easily she looked away. He doesn’t deserve her energy. Not then and certainly not now.

They all made their way into the Great Hall and took a seat. Tenten waved at the girls as she made her way to the Hufflepuff table and they made their way to their own tables. She did not bother to look behind her and see if Lee was following. She found Hinata and sat next to her. She smiled and bowed at Tenten as she sat down.

“Welcome students! Have a seat please” Shizune tried as the professors began to take their respective seats. Gai Sensei found her eyes and smiled. Tenten smiled and waved back. Lee sat next to her. Tenten wanted to make it a point to stand and sit somewhere else but decided against it.

Students chatter continued. Shizune started to look a bit more stressed. She tried again. The Drumtrungs and Beubaxtons were already seated watching the podium at attention. Tenten noticed Lee looking in the direction of a certain redhead. She sighed.

“Students please take your seats. We will be star-“
“SIT DOWN!” Tsunade yelled from the faculty table.

Students hustled to their seat and the voices died down immediately. Tsunade made her way to the podium and cleared her throat.

“Thank you” she said sarcastically.

“So, I’ll try to keep things brief. This year we are doing the Chunnins differently. I mentioned the age restrictions, meaning only sixth and seventh years allowed” this was new. Normally, third years were allowed to participate. Tenten participated when she was a third year but since all hell broke loose that year, precautions were in order. Thats what Gai Sensei had told her during her holidays.

Tsunade looked around. Daring someone to object. There were uncomfortable coughs. She continued.

“This year we will have three stages as opposed to your usual 5 dueling stages. First trial will be a game of Flag of the Forbidden Seal” The crowd erupted in cheers. Tsunade smirked as the cheers grew. Everyone loved this game. It was a Hogwarts tradition.

It was like what Tenten used to play at the orphanage. Teams are in charged of hiding their own flag and finding their opponents flag. The key is making it back to camp with your opponents flag and still having your own flag.

Except, this version involved magic which made it as if this child game was on steroids.

Lee was beside himself. He was whooping and hollering.

“Alright alright” Tsunade started as the cheering began to die down.

“As the hosting school, we have decided that this would be a friendly way to get into the spirit of things. We hope our Drumstang and Beubaxtons will enjoy this as well.” There was deathly sweetness in Tsunade tone.

“The next trial will be a new addition. It will be a relay race. This trial will be in groups of three that will be specifically chosen from the faculty” Tsunade said.

There were some curious whispers.
“What does that even mean?” A student asked
“Why groups of three?” A Slytherin said loudly.

“These groups were designed to test magical combinations and spell casting as well as good old fashioned teamwork” Tsunade finished.

That response did little to quell the curiosity that was spreading. Tenten looked for Gai. He had not mentioned any major changes in the trials. He seemed to be avoiding her eyesight as he awkwardly clapped. There was something he wasn’t telling her. She looked over at Lee who also seemed to be avoiding her.

Thats weird.

“The last trial will be a duel. However, these duels will be done differently. It will be a Trial of Echoes. The Houses can pick their champions” she gestured at the tables where students were sitting. She garbed on to the podium and looked at our visitors. With a wicked smile she continued.

“Drusmstrung and Beubaxtons are welcomed to choose two champions each and they can go toe to toe with Hogwarts best” She finished pointedly at the headmasters of both schools.

The hall erupted into cheers as excitement grew. It had been three years since the last Chunnin Wizard Trials. So much had happened since then. The castle was destroyed, the Third died, Sasuke left. This was he normalcy that was needed. Tenten would be damed if she didn’t enjoy it to the fullest.
