Chapter 1: One of us
Chapter Text
“ And this is where your mom solves crimes and is super cool” Morgan showed Ava as they entered the homicide department sections of the station. “ From 5 to 9 every weekday and sometimes weekends” she winked at Ava modeling by putting her hands on her hips.
Ava rolled her eyes with a smirk, she couldn't let her mom think that she was cool but she was proud of her. Ava was never embarrassed by any of her mom’s odd jobs, since she was little she was taught that any job done with hard work and dignity deserves respect however she was frustrated with her, she was blessed with a marvelous intelligence. How could it be that her mother never did anything with that? That’s the part that frustrated Ava but now, her mother was a consultant, she was part of the process of putting bad guys in jail.
They walked towards the kitchen, Ava looked around curious about everything in the station.
“Morgan?” Detective Karadec questioned walking towards them. “I thought it was your day off,” he said.
“I'm just showing Ava around the station,” Morgan said with a smile.
“What a fun surprise!” Karadec answered with a forced smile, he looked behind Morgan and showed Ava a genuine smile, “ Hi Ava” he greeted the teen who was on her phone.
“ Hi Detective,” she answered, still texting on her phone.
“ Morgan, can I speak with you very quickly?” he asks her in a tone that doesn't really sound like he is asking.
“Is it about a case? she asks, intrigued.
“Let's go to my desk.” he ignores her question and walks towards his chair, he sees Morgan send Ava to the Kitchen.
“What's up?” she asks, sitting in the chair in front of his desk.
“Morgan, you can't just bring your children to the station!” he chastises her, lowering his voice and frowning at her.
“What?” she blurts confused.
“Your cat just brought kids here! Especially on your day off, this isn't an amusement park, Gillory!” he tells her exasperated.
“Oh come on!” she says upset.
“Morgan” he warns, losing his patience.
“I- “ she protests and huffs, dropping her arms upset. “ I just wanted my kid to see how cool I am!” she said.
Karadec sighs and puts his hands in his face. “ Twenty minutes Gillory and then you both go,” he mutters.
“Yes!” she yells, “ You are the best partner!” she exclaims excitedly and standing up
“Yeah yeah and we are not partners,” he says glaring at her, Morgan starts to walk away, “ Not so fast” he stops her, and throws a folder with pictures at the desk showing Morgan. “ I want your eyes on this, something is not adding up.”
She giddies and walks to his side to examine the photos. “ mmmmm”
“What?” he asks, “What do you see”
“ I see that at this point you can't seem to be able to do this job without me,” she jokes, winking at him.
“ EVERYONE STAY PUT!” A slam of the door opening resonated through the station, and everyone's eyes darted towards the woman yelling, she had Captain Melon at gunpoint and looked like a force to be reckoned with.
“Ava!” Morgan whispers, frightened, ready to pounce but Karadec quickly pulls her behind him with a protective arm in front of her. “Wait!” he whispers harshly, assessing the situation.
“OR that bomb over there goes off!” she pointed at a chair with a package in it. “ NOW EVERYONE TO THE CENTER OF THE ROOM!” she orders pointing with her gun, her order hand holding the detonator.
As everyone starts shuffling to the room, Morgan frantically looks for Ava. Her baby is in the same room as a lunatic with a gun and a bomb, statistics go zooming from her head one side to another, how likely the bomb is to go off, chances of getting shot, and survival of hostage situation rates. Every statistic she can imagine flashes through her mind, she is so engrossed in her panic that she doesn't realize Karadec has been leading them toward the center, towards Ava until he gives her arm a small squeeze.
“ Ava!” Morgan calls out to her daughter slipping from Karadecs grasp and running to her,
“Morgan!” he calls out trying to run after her.
“HEY! YOU STAY THERE!” the woman yells pointing the gun at Karadec, he immediately stops and puts his arms up, “sit down!” she demands, voice full of doubt.
Morgan embraces Ava, the frightened young girl clinging to her mother, tears in her eyes.
Karadec sits on the ground but his eyes never leave Morgan and Ava, he feels some relief knowing Morgan and Ava are together.
The woman looks back at Morgan and Ava now on the floor still huddling together, she stares at them for a couple of minutes but ultimately looks around to make sure everyone is on the floor.
“Listen up people!” she yells while pointing the gun at Melon, “A man is about to go to jail for life for a murder he did not commit.” she starts, a second person enters through the door, they have a murder board with them filled with pictures and information, “And you will help me solve this.”
“You have to realize you are not walking out of this without consequences,” Soto says, pissed. “You cannot come and threaten my detectives, innocent civilians.”
“I do not care, you will help me prove my brother is innocent or we will all go BOOM,” she says pressing her gun at Melon's head. “Who is your best detective?” she asks Soto.
Everyone looked around and then to Soto almost as if asking permission to speak.
“I am!” Morgan raised her hand, confidently.
“MOM!” Aba cried, grabbing her arm and putting it down.
“Hey hey it's okay,” Morgan turns around and kisses Ava in the head, she gives her a quick hug and stands up. “It's me, I'm your best chance.”
“Morgan no” Kraradec stands up,” What are you doing!”
“HEY YOU!” the woman shouts and points the gun at Karadec, “Sit down NOW” she demands
“You can't take her,” he says seriously, “she isn't even a detective, she is a consultant.” he says. “Take me, I’ll solve the case.”
The woman looks back and forth between them, one eyebrow raised.
“He won't, he can't,” Morgan says absently as she looks between the pictures on the board. “Why do you think I'm a consultant, I spot the things they miss,” she says looking at a particular picture.
“Morgan” Karadec warns, anxiety running through his body.
“I already noticed something they didn't,” she answers.
“Good enough for me, move it blond.” the woman says pointing the gun at her.
“MOM!” Ava launches herself at Morga clinging to her which causes the woman to move forward pointing the gun at them “HEY HEY!” she yells
Karadec stands quickly rushing to them but is stopped by the man who points a second gun at him, “Where do you think you are going,” he asks with sarcasm, a smirk on his face.
Karadec glares at him but raises his arms in defeat.
“Ava Ava” Morgan calls anxiously to her girl, “Ava look at me” she pleads to her distraught daughter, she grabs her face and lifts it up. “It will be okay, I'm your super cool mom who solves crimes.”
“I can't lose you,” she says.
“I will be fine, “ Morgan looks at Karadec and grabs ava's hand giving her a reassuring squeeze. “Karadec will take care of you,” she says and gives Ava a slight push towards him. “Take care of her please,” she says with a few tears in her eyes.
“I trust you,” she tells him and then everything happens too fast. The woman grabs her by the arm and takes her out of the room, she can hear Ava scream for her and when she turns around, Karadec is holding her back, he has his arms around her as she cries in her chest, she shouldn't feel so relieved in a situation like this but, she trust him with her children and she knows he won't allow anything to happen to them, as the door closes she sees him nodding to her as he sits down in the floor with ava holding on to him.
"If anything happens to her" Karadec threaten the guy, holding tight to Ava, the poor girl who is shacking.
“You will what? Arrest me? KILL ME? " he mocks and then flashes his gun to the crowd of people, "NOW everyone quiet or I BLOW THIS PLACE!” the man says with rage in his voice.

Chapter Text
As they enter the room Morgan can see it is a small interrogation room or was, there is only a chair and a small table.“ You, sit down” The woman with the gun pointed at Morgan and then at the seat, “Here is the run down, my brother was accused of murdering our ex-captain but he would never do that. I need you to help me prove it,” she said as Morgan sat down, “ He was arrested last week.”
Morgan stayed silent for a moment, “Okay… I will need everything we have on the case.” she said, looking around nervously. “ Detective Forrest can help you collect all the evidence, she will know where it is and if we need anything,” she says, studying the woman, the way she breathes, the movement of her eyes, everything.
The woman studies her, “Why that detective and not the other one, the man you left your daughter with,” she said lowering her gun, her hand lowering, hovering on top of her stomach.
“ I.. will be honest,” she said defeated, “ I want him to stay with her, I will give it my all and solve this case but I need him to stay with her.”
The woman looks her up and down, “Fine,” she says and looks around the room making sure there is nothing Morgan could use to try and escape, after assessing the room she walks out.
“The consultant inside there says she needs stuff,” The woman announced as she entered the room where they had the hostages. “She says Forrest can get the box of evidence, where is Forrester?”
Without a beat passing all heads were turned towards Daphne.
Her eyes widened, and she stood up. " I—yeah, I can get the evidence.” Daphne walked towards the door, but she was stopped by the man who held a trash bag in one hand and the gun in the other. " Phone,” he almost growled. She shakily took the phone out and deposited it. Now grab it and collect the rest.”
“And don't play coy or I will search you!” he yells kicking the desk.
The woman was startled at this, she observed the man for a moment before composing herself and observing the people on the floor. Brooks's eyes focused on the girl and the detective, she was sitting next to him, his arm around her protectively staring at James, a fury she remembered all too well, the way her brother logan observed any threat towards his children, she closed her eyes and placed a hand on her belly, how she imagined she would glare at anything that threatens her baby.
“James, please calm down,” she said, moving towards him. “ This is not the way to get things done,” she said. James turned towards her, but before he could say anything, the phone rang.
They both looked at each other and then back at the hostages, Captain Soto felt a wave of relief hit her. “I would recommend you answer,” she said calmly.
Brook went to the phone and picked it up. " Who speaks? " She put the phone on speaker so James could hear.
“This is Detective Osman” a man answered, “ and you have my people captive and I do not take it lightly,”
“We are here because you arrested an innocent man” Brook almost snarled, “ And your detectives will mend this”
“I need to speak with my captain,” Oz said.
“You can speak to me” Broke answered.
“Let the civilians go,” he demanded.
“Why would we do that!” James said moving Brook out of the way.
“Because if you don't, I will not let you prove your brother's innocence.” Oz snapped seriously. “That's right James and Broke, we know it's you.”
Both looked at each other and then at the phone.”Fine, fine!” James said erratically, “Civilians can go, but all the cops stay!”
“Fine,” Oz snapped, “ I will be waiting for the civilians at the entrance, only me”
“It better be like that,” James gritted through his teeth and hung up.
“Everyone who isn't a cop gets out now” James ordered pointing his gun at the door.
Ava looks around frantic seeing every civilian making their way to the door, she looked back at Karadec who gave her a nod and a faint smile.
She stood up and looked back at Daphne who was gathering the last of the files and smiled at her,s he turned and started following the crowd when someone pulled her away, jerking her by the arm. “AH”
“You arent going anywhere lady, you are the golden ticken in this operation.” James said to her.
“GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER NOW” Karadec shouted getting on his feet quickly and making his way to them, “Let her go, NOW!” he commanded before being stopped by Brook pointing a gun at him.
He stopped in his tracks and raised his arms in defeat but never took his eyes from where Ava was. “ she is a civilian, a KID, she deserves to be out of this mess.” he pleaded with brook.
“ I can't let her go,” she whispered, visibly remorseful. We need her.”
“She is a child!” he argued raising his voice.
“I'm sorry,” she said and turned to James. Let her go, James. I promised the consultant she would be safe with the detective.”
He let her arm go and shoved her with his gun in the direction of Karadec, she looked back at him and ran towards him and he wrapped his arms around her feeling some relief she was within his reach again. He could breathe again.
“Okay you two, sit down,” Brook said she gave her back when immediately she felt someone grab her from behind and try to grab her gun, she heard the gasp from everyone but before she could react she heard the gunshot.
On the floor lay Captain Melon, a bullet wound in his leg, there were screams and panic for a second, and chaos ensued.
“AVA!” Morgan came running from the investigation room,
