Chapter Text
A few drops of rain fell on Lena’s face as she stood unmoving looking at the three tombstones in front of her.
“Sorry mom and dad. I should have protected you and Lex.” she said. Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke. She took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves.
Even after years, the grief was still very much part of her life and she suspected it would be there forever. After all, she deserved it. She was responsible. She should have been able to protect them. She clenched her fist, thinking about what she would do to the person who ordered the hits on her mother, father and brother.
“You need to forgive yourself, my love. The time will come” Kara whispered. She kept her words vague, conscious of all the ears and eyes on them.
Lena extended her hand waiting for Kara to take it. “Let’s go, lass.” she said.
They made their way to their car. J’onn opened the door for them and Kara got in. Lena looked around and spied the FBI agents following her, watching from afar. She recognised Agent Danvers and Agent Lane. The last one, she didn’t know. She made a mental note to ask Brainy to do some research on the newcomer. In her line of work, surprises were never good news. She smiled for the cameras and winked before getting in the car.
“Why do you like to mess with them so much?” Kara asked with humour.
“They insist on following me around and taking pictures so I gave them my best profile.” Lena joked.
“You only have good profiles, my love” Kara said. She scooted closer, pressing herself to Lena’s side and kissed her cheek.
“You flatter me, lass.” Lena countered. She wrapped her arm around Kara’s shoulders and held her close.
“Where to, boss?” J’onn asked.
“Home” Lena replied.
J’onn hummed and put the car in gear. The drive from the cemetery took a little over twenty minutes. They first crossed the downtown area, home of the high rise buildings and gastronomic restaurants. Then they passed along the warehouse district, a more popular area with a reputation for petty crimes and mob hits. Finally they arrived in the residential area well-known for its millions dollar houses and very private homeowners. Their house came into view. It was a large two storey house with a few acres of garden surrounding it and high walls with armed guards stationed on the ground. It had been Lena’s family house she inherited when her parents died.
Six years ago, after dating for 6 months, Lena had asked Kara to move in. Lena’s past as a player had made Kara wary at first but the six months of total devotion and the promise Lena made when she asked her to move in had weighed heavily when Kara made her decision. This and the heavy diamond ring that Lena had presented to Kara when she proposed.
Lena kept an eye on the guards as J’onn drove past the main entrance and across the ground. J’onn stopped the car in front of the house and got out. He opened the door for them to exit the cars and let them in the house.
“Lena, there are people here to see you.” Jess announced.
Lena sighed. She had hoped for some alone time with her wife but apparently people had other plans for her. She kissed Kara softly on the lips and followed Jess.
“Who is it, Jess?” Lena asked before reaching her office.
“The FBI is here to enquire about something but they didn’t want to tell me what. I called Sam immediately. She’s here too.” Jess explained.
“Thank you, Jess. What would I do without you?” Lena replied.
“I have a feeling you would manage just fine but you won’t have to find out.” Jess countered.
Lena chuckled. Jess was a godsend, loyal, efficient and over the years she became part of the family. Lena pushed the door of her office open.
“Hi Sam, beautiful day isn’t it?” She greeted the brunette behind her desk.
“Hm hm” Lena’s cousin, Sam, answered. Her attention was still completely focused on the paperwork in front of her.
“Sam?” Lena called out again.
Sam shook her head. “Sorry, I’m reviewing the details of some of the latest deals.” She explained. She closed the folder on the desk and pushed back the chair, giving Lena her desk back. “I heard you have some interesting visitors waiting to meet you.” she remarked.
“You know me. Always the popular girl.” Lena replied with a shrug.
“Don’t let Kara hear you say that…” Sam warned her, making Lena laugh.
“No, I guess I shouldn’t.” she conceded. “Shall we let the jackal in?” she suggested.
Sam poured two irish whiskeys in the crystal tumblers that had been in the family for generations and settled one in front of Lena and one in front of the guest chair for herself.
“Let the show begin.” Sam finally announced as she sat in the leather club chair.
Jess nodded and went in search of the man who had been waiting for fifteen minutes in the sitting room. She let the man enter before her and closed the door behind him.
He jumped slightly and turned when the door closed, betraying his nervousness. When he looked back, Lena was looking at him with a smirk. He puffed his chest and scolded at her, trying to look imposing. It only served to make Lena smirk even more.
She analysed the man standing in front of her. He was a tall african american man who most people would consider good looking and he knew it. He was FBI alright. His off-the-rack suit and standard FBI issued weapon that she could guess on his hip made it very clear that he didn’t belong here.
“What can I do for you, agent… ” Lena asked, letting the sentence trail, hoping to get a name.
“Supervisory agent Olsen” he corrected her. “I thought I would introduce myself since I’m new in National City.” he added full of confidence.
Lena stared at him. She wanted him to play his cards and she wasn’t going to engage before knowing everything about this man that presented himself to her home without an invitation.
He hesitated, a little angry at not getting a rise out of her. “I’m the man that is going to topple you from your pedestal and escort you to jail where you’ll rot for years to come.” he said smugly. “The way I see it. You have two choices: a lifetime in jail or cooperation. I’ll take cooperation if I were you.” he advised.
“Agen Olsen–” Sam started but Lena waved her off.
“You have me on a pedestal? It’s flattering but I’m only a barkeep and a businesswoman.” Lena retorted. Two could play that game and she only gambled when she knew she would win. “I’ll make sure to let you know if I see anything illegal but surely the FBI has bigger fish to fry than the petty bar brawls I get at the pub from time to time.” she wondered.
Olsen gritted his teeth, anger simmering to the surface. He clenched his fists in an effort to control his temper. He walked around the office, inspecting the books and pictures on the shelves. “You think you’re so smart…” he commented, keeping his back to them and shaking his head. He turned towards Lena again. “But we’ll see who’s laughing when you’re someone bitch in jail…” he said, his tone threatening.
“Are you threatening my client, agent Olsen?” Sam asked. She retrieved her phone from her bag. “Maybe I should call the DA’s office to let them know they have FBI cowboys making threats to law-abiding citizens during unannounced and unwarranted home visits…” Sam commented.
Olsen knew when he was beaten. The warning coming from who he knew to be Lena’s cousin and lawyer was clear. He shook his head. “That won’t be necessary. I’m leaving.” he said. He didn’t wait for an answer and made his way to the door. He was surprised to find Jess waiting to escort him out. Jess closed the door, leaving Sam and Lena to chat.
“Can you believe it?” Sam asked. She was angry and perplexed by the new methods the FBI was ready to use.
“It seems that the rules have changed. I never liked Lane and Danvers but at least I knew where they stood.” Lena whispered. She took a piece of paper, wrote something on it and handed it to Sam.
“Olsen needs to be watched.” Lena had written. Sam nodded and put the note in her notebook adding her own instruction to contact Brainy for a full rundown of his credential. She’ll also get a picture of him to all the guards making sure they knew who he was.
Lena stood up and made her way around the desk. She examined the shelves Olsen had looked at prior to his departure and shook her head. The FBI was so predictable it was almost too easy.
“Let’s get some coffee, Sam,” Lena said, out of the blue.
Sam didn’t question it and took her bag before following Lena.
“Care to tell me what happened?” Sam questioned.
“Bugs…” Lena just said. She motioned for Jess to follow.
They entered the kitchen where Kara was chatting with the cook, Maria. They were both laughing at J’onn story. When J’onn and Maria saw Sam and Lena enter the kitchen, they left to give them some privacy.
“Hey baby” Lena said. She bent to kiss Kara’s cheek. Kara surprised her by turning towards her just at the right time and Lena’s lips landing directly on hers. Lena didn’t hesitate and kissed her wife. “Why Mrs Luthor, what got you so frisky…” Lena whispered in her ear.
Kara laughed and kissed Lena’s lips one more time. When she pulled away from the kiss, she tugged Lena towards her and whispered: “My wife promised me a good time but then she left to do some business…I feel neglected…”
Lena’s laugh rang in the kitchen surprising everyone. “Duly noted, lass.” she added for Kara’s benefit. “I do need to take care of a few more things but after that I’m all yours.” Lena promised.
Kara nodded and released her. She smiled at Sam who was observing the scene with envy. Sam was the first to look away. She rummaged through her bag and got a folder out.
“I didn’t just come to talk to the FBI…” Sam started. “Bernardo sent the documents back for our new venture. He’s sending Andrea and Nia to the states to take care of business for him.” Sam explained.
Lena took the folder. Everything seems in order.
Bernardo Rojas had been a good friend and ally to her dad. While their businesses were different, booze, cigarettes and real estate for Cain and casino and high-end gambling for the Rojas, the two men had found an easy understanding and formed an alliance.
When Lionel passed away after a nasty hit and Lena took the reign of the family, Bernardo came to the states for the funerals and swore to continue their alliance. Now, he was slowly giving the reign of his business to his two daughters: Andrea, the eldest, who would be the head of the family and Nia, the youngest, who would become her right hand and counsellor. They were his pride and joy and if the rumours were true, they were as ruthless in business as their father was if not more.
Andrea was the same age as Lena and they had met when Andrea came to study business at the same university as Lena some ten years ago. They became fast friends and bonded over the secrets of their families’ business and their love for women. Lena was excited to do business with them. She knew the rumours were true and this new venture would be very lucrative.
“Set up a meeting with them as soon as they arrive. Make sure you propose to them to stay at the house if they need a place to stay before they find their own places.” Lena instructed Sam.
Sam nodded. She never met Andrea or only talked to Nia on the phone but she knew Lena trusted them as if they were family. It intrigued her. Her phone buzzed on the table. She looked at the caller ID and frowned. Her associates from the law firm she owned knew not to disturb her when she was with Lena. “It’s Jack,” she announced.
Lena motioned for her to take the call. Sam connected the call and put him on speaker. Jack Spheer wasn’t known to panic but both women could detect the edge in his voice when he spoke. “Hey boss, some lowlife FBI agent was here a minute ago swinging his dick around and asking to see our client list and a bunch of other papers. Obviously, I told him to take a hike but what the fuck is happening?” Jack asked.
Lena cringed at the strong image. “Let me guess… his name was Agent Olsen?” Lena chanced.
“Lena?... Is that you?” Jack asked, expecting Sam to answer.
“Yes, I’m with Sam and Kara.” she replied, hoping he would keep the colourful language to a minimum.
“Hey Kara, how are–” he stopped himself before Lena could say anything and answer the question. “Yes, Olsen, that’s the name he gave me.”
“Leave it with me, Jack,” Sam suggested.
Jack grunted an unconvinced okay and hung up the phone.
“Olsen is eager. We can give him that. Which reminds me. Jess, can you get my office cleaned… “ she asked. Jess frowned but nodded. “Olsen left some unwanted electronics on the shelves.” Lena explained.
Jess left to get the cleaning sorted.
“Ok, time for me to go.” Sam said. “I’ll let you know what the Rojas say.” she added, putting the papers back in her briefcase. “Kara, I’ll see you tomorrow for lunch.” she threw over her shoulder as she left.
“Finally alone…” Kara breathed as she climbed on Lena’s lap. “What are we going to do now…” she whispered so Lena only would hear.
Lena’s hand settled on Kara’s hips, pulling her close. She chuckled, loving how her wife’s mind worked. She slowly ran her hands down Kara’s thighs and stopped at Kara’s knees. When she looked up, Kara’s eyes were fixated on her lips.
Kara smiled warmly. She finally had Lena exactly where she wanted her. She cupped Lena’s cheek and rubbed her thumb on Lena’s lips. Lena bit the pad of her thumb and quickly followed it by a kiss on the same spot. Kara hummed sensually before capturing Lena’s lips. Kara kissed her like no one had ever kissed Lena. It was a kiss born from years of kissing Lena and knowing exactly what would make her ticked. Kara had been the only woman that managed to make Lena forget about any kisses she had before.
Lena didn’t lose any time to slide her hands under Kara’s dress, running her hands on the warm skin of Kara’s thighs. She let Kara set the pace. Having Kara express her feelings for her so freely was such a gift, she didn’t dare trying to hurry the process. When Kara’s tongue probed for entry, Lena was there to respond. She caressed Kara’s tongue with hers. The taste of chocolate lingered in Kara’s mouth. Her wife tended to have a sweet tooth and Lena always wondered what taste she would find.
“Hmm” Lena purred as the kiss deepened. Her hands had found their way on Kara’s ass. She kneaded the soft flesh over the lace of Kara’s underwear.
Kara moaned, liking the new feel of Lena’s rough attention. The feel of Lena’s hands handling her body like that always made her wet and today was no different. She pulled away from the kiss. Her breath was laboured and her eyes shut. “You need to finish what you started in a more private setting.” she murmured.
Lena chuckled at the demand. “I have all night for you, my love.” she replied. “Let’s go upstairs.” she added as a suggestion. Kara nodded. She stood up on shaky legs and took Lena’s offered hand.
The house was empty except for Jess working in her office next to Lena’s. They climbed the stairs hand in hand towards the master bedroom. The house was big and offered them the privacy they craved regardless of how many staff or guards were on the property.
When they reached the double door leading to their bedroom, Lena went in first. She waited to hear the door closed. Kara heard the door click shut and suddenly found herself pressed against the door; Lena’s body pressed against her own, Lena’s mouth on hers and Lena’s hands pulling at her summer dress.
“Off” Lena muttered against her lips as she clumsily undid the button of Kara’s dress.
Kara held on to Lena’s shoulders. The assault of Lena’s mouth on her skin made it hard to stand. She was grateful for the solid door behind her back. Lena managed to push down Kara’s dress off of her shoulders, around her waist and let it fall on the floor. The cold air made Kara shiver and goosebump appeared on her bare skin. Lena pulled away from the kiss and took the time to look at her wife.
“You’re so beautiful” she breathed. She ran her fingertips on Kara’s collarbones. She continued the feather-like touch down her chest, tracing the lacey patterns of her bra.
“Hmm.. I love how you touch me…” Kara whispered. “So soft… so attentive…” she added.
Lena hummed in agreement. She was very attentive and right now her attention was on the hardened nipple she could feel straining against the fabric. She circled the hard nub, earning some mewling noises coming from Kara.
“So responsive…” Lena commented.
“Find out for yourself, if you dare…” Kara replied, teasingly. She unhooked her bra and let it fall on the floor, revelling in the lust she could see in Lena’s eyes even after all these years. She caressed Lena’s face lovingly. Her fingers traced her cheekbone, trailed along her jaw only to settle on the back of her head, threading in her dark hair. She pulled Lena’s head towards her chest, bringing her mouth on her breast.
Lena didn’t disappoint. Her tongue darted out of her mouth and twirled it around Kara’s nipple experimentally.
“You can do better than that.” Kara commented, huskily.
Lena looked up at the challenge and smiled before taking the sensitive flesh between her lips. Kara sighed, finally feeling Lena’s mouth on her. It wasn’t near enough but it was a start. Lena knew exactly how to tease her. She lavished her chest with attention until Kara couldn’t take it anymore.
“You proved your point, stop teasing me” Kara whined.
“And what’s my point exactly, lass?” Lena crooned.
Kara smiled sweetly. She took Lena’s hand resting on her hip and pushed it further down her body slowly. When she reached the waistband of her underwear, she held Lena’s gaze and pushed past it.
“That you can make me this wet just with your lips teasing me” Kara whimpered as she slowly dragged Lena’s fingers on her swollen flesh and into the pool of arousal between her legs.
Kara was warm and ready for her. The silky flesh under Lena’s fingertips begged to be explored, so did Kara. Kara let go of her hand when Lena buried her fingers inside of her molten core. The long slow strokes were met thrust for thrust by Kara’s hips. They moved in unison. Lena’s lips found their way on Kara’s chest again.
Kara was a vision, head thrown back in pleasure against the door. Hands gripping Lena’s biceps and shoulder to keep herself up, moans and whimpers escaping her lips to fill the room.
“Oh god.. yes …right here.” Kara chanted. The first flutters of her orgasm were starting at the base of her spine. She was close and she knew Lena could feel it. “So close… so close” she murmured over and over.
Lena didn’t let go, seeking Kara’s release as much as Kara did. She continued pumping her fingers in rhythm. She wanted to feel Kara come undone around her fingers. She brushed her thumb against Kara’s clit, getting a loud moan in response. A few more passes and thrusts and Kara came with her name on her lips. She sagged against the door and Lena gathered her in her arms, half carrying her to the bed. She laid Kara on the bed carefully and slid next to her.
“You need to take your clothes off, love” Kara said, still breathing hard.
“Hm hm” Lena replied. She kissed Kara’s forehead and got out of bed. She discarded her clothes quickly. Kara was observing her, enjoying every moment of it.
“Come here,” Kara urged her.
Lena walked to the bed and laid next to Kara.
“Not what I had in mind,” Kara said.
She rolled on top of Lena, settling her hips between Lena’s legs. Lena’s wet core made contact with Kara’s skin. Lena moaned at the sensation.
Kara kissed the spot above Lena’s heart. “I love you.” she murmured.
“I love you too, lass.” Lena replied.
Kara continued peppering her chest with soft kisses, slowly going further down. She traced lazy patterns with her tongue down Lena’s stomach, along her hip bone and finally reached the dark coarse hair between her legs. She nuzzled her face in it.
“Lass…” Lena whimpered as she spread her legs further apart as an incentive.
“I’ll take care of you, love” Kara said.
Lena didn’t have time to respond as Kara’s tongue was already on her. Kara was everywhere, exploring every fold, every crevice with her tongue, toying with Lena’s clit between her lips.
Kara hummed, drunk on Lena’s scent and taste. Lena’s hand in her hair encouraged her to go faster. Kara redoubled her effort as Lena grinded against her face, taking as much pleasure as Kara was willing to offer. It didn’t take long for Lena to call out Kara’s name as she came.
She pushed Kara’s head away, too sensitive for even the softest touch. “Lass, come here” she urged Kara.
In no time, Kara’s face was hovering over hers. Her lips and chin still smeared with Lena’s arousal. Lena didn’t hesitate and kissed her lovingly. They laid awake in each other’s arms for a while, sharing loving words in hushed tones.
After a few minutes of quiet, Lena realised that Kara had fallen asleep. She turned the dimmed lights off and snuggled her wife. She thought about the FBI's new methods of investigation, the business opportunities with the Rojas and all the wolves at her door. The ground was shifting under her feet and she was going to do everything in her power to protect her family and her father’s legacy. With that thought in mind, she drifted to sleep.

The sounds of water running slowly woke up Kara from her slumber. She blinked a few times and reached for Lena’s side of the bed. She was met with cold sheets; Lena must have been awake for a while, she thought. Kara rubbed her eyes and started to get up as Lena exited the bathroom naked.
Kara smiled and let her eyes take in the view. Five years of marriage and Lena could still get her going in seconds. She continued her appraisal in silence leaning against the headboard and letting the sheets pool around her waist.
Lena didn’t seem to notice Kara was awake. She took her time to pick a set of purple silky lingerie and laid them next to the crisp white shirt and dark pantsuit she had decided to wear earlier. She slipped inside the lingerie, first the brief then the bra.
Kara let out an unsatisfied grunt, preferring the unobstructed view of her wife’s body. Lena chuckled and turned.
“Not enjoying the show, lass?” Lena asked.
“I love you in anything but I must say your birthday suit is the one I prefer…” Kara replied.
Lena crossed the room, leaving her shirt untied. She sat on the edge of the bed next to Kara and leaned to kiss her. “Good morning, darling,” she said softly. She traced the line between Kara’s breasts with her fingers, enjoying the effect on Kara’s body. Kara stopped her hand before she could go too far.
“Don’t tease me…” Kara whined. She gripped each side of Lena’s shirt and pulled her closer. The kiss resulting from the move was hot and urgent. After a few moments, Kara pushed Lena away. She smirked at Lena’s labour breath and lust in her eyes.
“It’s late. I’m sure Sam is waiting for you downstairs.” Kara said. She smoothed Lena’s shirt and laughed at the look of disbelief in Lena’s eyes.
“I always forget how mean you are early in the morning…” Lena sighed. Kara was really good at teasing her.
“Tonight, after our date, there’s a high chance, you’ll get lucky, if you play your cards well” Kara whispered, caressing Lena’s face lovingly.
“How high?” Lena questioned knowingly. She kissed the inside of Kara’s palm.
“99.99%” Kara breathed before placing one quick kiss on Lena’s lips. “Now, go” she said sternly, pushing her away. She got out of bed, her naked body brushing Lena’s.
Lena chuckled and went back to getting dressed. Tonight, she’ll be cashing in on these odds.

Nia gripped Andrea’s hand as the plane took off. For someone so small she sure had a strong grip, Andrea thought.
“I still don’t understand how you can be so scared about flying. Even more when it’s a cushy private jet…” Andrea complained. She didn’t let go of Nia’s hand though. Nia was her little sister and she would always be there for her even for something as silly as her fear of flying.
“I’m not scared of flying… It's the take off and landing part. I'm not a fan.” Nia replied between gritted teeth.
Andrea shook her head. “You’re going to be okay, manita ,” Andrea said, squeezing Nia’s hand.
When Nia was born, Andrea had already been nine, she had taken her role as big sister very seriously. She had started calling her manita, short for hermanita, little sister in their native spanish. The nickname had stuck and Andrea still used it to this day.
Nia let go of Andrea’s hand. The ascent was finished and it was now high in the sky. She could finally breathe.
Andrea got up and retrieved the paperworks she needed to review the deal with the Luthor Clan and slid it towards Nia.
“Are we ready to sign the deal?” Andrea asked. As the future head of the family, she knew she didn’t need to ask. Nia would follow her lead without question but she trusted Nia to oversee the legal details.
Nia nodded. “We can go ahead. I ironed out all the details with Lena’s lawyer. She was great.” Nia replied. Andrea looked up from the paper, surprised at Nia’s comment.
Nia gave her impish smile. “Sexy voice too.” she added with a wink.
Andrea huffed. Since hearing about Lena getting married five years ago, her sister had decided that it was time for her to settle down too. She never missed an occasion to try to set her up.
“Oh no. Nope. We are not going down that road.” Andrea warned her. “I’m old enough to find my own dates. I don’t need you meddling.” she added.
“Finding one, yes, keeping them for more than one night…” Nia teased.
Andrea groaned. Nia was relentless. “You know, the goal is never to keep them…” she smirked.
Nia sighed. Andrea was clinging to her bachelor status with ferocity. It would take a very special person to get her to leave it behind. She let it go for now and went back to her paperwork.
“What’s the plan?” Nia asked, all business.
Andrea thought for a moment “When we arrive at the airport. We’ll go directly to the house. Lena’s kind enough to put us up until we find a place. Tonight we have dinner with Lena and Kara. Tomorrow we sign the deal and take possession of the casino and get the new offices set up.” she said, counting on her hand the things they are to take care of.
“Busy schedule, I hope we get time for some fun” Nia commented.
“We’ll have plenty of fun with Lena, manita,” Andrea replied, waving Nia's concerns.

She stared at the grey wall wondering what she had done in her life to be stuck here. The new guy, Olsen she recalled, was going on and on about his previous operation and high profile collar. Apparently the FBI was full of gullible people because she had read his file and there was nothing in it about single handedly disbanded one of the most dangerous gangs in Los Angeles.
She sighed, attracting the look from her colleague and friend Lucy.
“Bunch of lies if you asked me.” Lucy said, making Alex laugh.
“Next he’s going to tell us how he saved the world from aliens…” Alex joked.
Lucy laughed a little too loud and James threw her a nasty look.
“Lane, Danvers, maybe you should take a page from his book. You’ve been on the Luthor case for eighteen months and you don’t have much to show for it…” Marxell Lord shot at them. “Except some good shots of her face…” he added, laughing.
Alex and Lucy knew better than to answer. Maxwell Lord had been appointed as the new FBI director in the National City six months ago. When he arrived he took one look at their operation and had found it lacking. Bringing his golden boy, James Olsen was his way of taking over.
“As I was saying, Director Lord, I have the right experience for this type of criminal and what they need is for us to be in their face not to give them a wide berth as it’s been the case so far.” James insisted.
“You’re right, Olsen. Put together a proposal and let’s get this trash out of our streets.” Lord ordered before leaving the conference room.
James smirked at the two women. “Ladies” he threw over his shoulder in the guise of goodbye and followed his boss.
“What a dick…” Lucy huffed.
“Yes, but a dick with some powerful allies.” Alex countered, deep in thoughts.
“What are you cooking, Danvers?” Lucy asked. She’d seen that look on Danvers’ face before and she wanted in on the action.
“Hmm” Alex started “maybe we need to find a weak link to topple Luthor…” she mused.
“We tried that, no one is willing to talk about her operation and the ones that are willing, don’t know anything.” Lucy reminded her.
“What if we went for someone closer to the source?” Alex proposed.
The glint in Alex’s eyes made Lucy smile. “Like who?”
“Like her wife…” Alex suggested. “Hear me out…” she added before Lucy could protest. “Kara Luthor is from a small town and a very conservative family. There’s no way she agreed to marry Lena Luthor knowing what kind of person she is. Maybe if we get her to realise what a monster Luthor is, she can be useful.” Alex said, laying out her plan.
Lucy listened carefully. Alex had a point. Kara could be the key to get Luthor behind bars. “And maybe she can give us information… enough to take Luthor out…” Lucy agreed. She paused. “And in the process, we can show Lord and Olsen what a bunch of morons they are…” Lucy offered.
Alex nodded knowingly. Lucy was right on the money. “Maybe…” she replied.
“Let’s get to work.” Lucy declared.

Kara climbed down the stairs. Her heels clicked on the wooden floor as she walked towards the kitchen. The smell of coffee and fresh pastries made her hum. She entered the kitchen and watched Lena as she drank her coffee while reading the newspaper.
“Refill?” Kara asked, making her way towards the machine.
“Hm hm” Lena replied without looking up.
Kara grabbed Lena’s empty cup and kissed her temple. She turned to fill both cups.
Lena looked up at her wife. Kara was wearing a beige tight dress with a knee length skirt and a boat neck top. The short split at the front showed off muscular thighs and golden skin. She had trouble taking her eyes off her.
“You like the dress?” Kara asked, knowing full well that Lena did.
“Oh yes, I love the dress.” Lena replied. “Is it new?” Lena asked, finger itching to run her hand on the seemingly soft fabric.
“I bought it when I went shopping with Sam last month.” Kara explained, sipping her coffee.
“You should go shopping with Sam more often…” Lena commented.
Kara laughed. “As a matter of fact… I’m having lunch with her today… So who knows…” Kara said.
The sound of the front door opening startled them and Sam’s greeting resonated in the atrium as she made her way to the kitchen. It was a habit for Sam to have breakfast and dinner with them. Every morning and evening she would make her way from the house across the street and join them.
The house had been her parents before and when they died more than a decade ago, she inherited it and all their possessions. That made her a very wealthy and eligible bachelorette but a lonely one. The house had been too big for her then and it was no different now. She spent most of her time at Lena’s house avoiding the reminder of what she lost.
There had been a few times when Sam thought she found someone to share her house with her but it never ended happily. She’d all but given up on love preferring family and legacy over it.
“Good morning, love birds” Sam greeted her cousin and her wife.
“Hey Sam,” Kara replied with a warm smile. She loved hearing the nicknames Sam came up with for them. “Are you still up for lunch later today?” she asked. “And maybe some shopping…” she added, winking at Lena.
“You bet.” Sam answered, grabbing a coffee and sitting next to Lena. “12.30? White Orchid? That way, we can go see Freddy after” Sam proposed, mentioning Kara’s private shopper.
“Sounds good.” Kara replied. She put her cup in the sink and made her way towards the door. “I have some meetings downtown to attend, I’ll meet you there.” she added.
“Take Megan with you.” Lena stated, leaving no room for disagreement.
Kar sighed. She knew it was necessary and Megan was great at blending in but she just didn’t like having a guard with her at all times. She understood why though and would never begrudge the peace of mind it offered Lena.
“I will,” she replied. She kissed Lena softly on the lips and whispered “I love you”.
“I love you too” Lena whispered back, grateful that Kara was willing to concede some of her freedom.
Kara smiled and kissed Sam’s cheek. “See you later.” she told her.
“What? No, I love you for me.” Sam quipped, making a show of pouting.
“We love you” Lena and Kara replied together.
Sam beamed at them. “That’s better.” she chirped.
Kara left the room, shaking her head. Sam was like a sister to her but she could be dramatic sometimes.
Lena listened to the soft voices in the atrium, smiling as she heard Kara say “Guess, you’re with me.” to her bodyguard and the quiet “Yes, Ma’am” from Megan.
“So business…” Lena proposed.
Sam finished her coffee and nodded. “Andrea and Nia are on their way. I sent J’onn to pick them up. I changed the plan slightly, we’re meeting at the new building. The owner was ready to sign and hand over the keys earlier.” Sam explained.
Lena nodded. Sam always knew what to do. “Are you comfortable sharing a building with another law firm?” Lena asked.
Until recently Sam’s law firm had been located in the downtown area in an old building. When the need for renovation and the opportunity of doing business with Rojas had presented itself, Lena had suggested Nia and Sam used one of the skyscrapers they were buying to settle their practices. Nia would get floor three to ten and Sam eleven to eighteen.
“Of course, they are our partners and we have the best security in the game anyways so it’s no problem. I never met Nia but she sounded like fun on the phone.” Sam replied.
“Great then that’s settled.” Lena concluded.
“There’s something else…Three of our guys have been found dead at the warehouse on the docks.” Sam started.
“Who?” Lena probed, knowing that Sam would have more intel.
“Two of the busboys at the pub, Robbie and Marshall and one of the waitresses at the club, Penny. It was gruesome. They were probably interrogated for hours.” Sam continued.
Lena gritted her teeth. It was useless violence, none of these people would know anything about her operation. They were just college kids trying to make money. “Any leads?” she asked, ready to unleash her temper on the culprit.
“Word on the streets, there’s a guy named Snapper claiming the body count. It’s the first time his name comes up.” Sam explained. “The families have been compensated and the funerals are all taken care of.” she supplied, hoping to get Lena to calm down. She needed to keep her head clear to exact her vengeance.
“Get him. Tonight after dinner, I’ll have a chat with that Snapper.” Lena instructed.
“You got it. I have two men sitting on him already. We’ll bring him in tonight.” Sam promised. She made a phone call to arrange for it while Lena got her coat.
“Let’s go. J’onn is back to drive us.” Lena said.
******************
Mike Matthews rolled onto his back in the lounge chair he had spent the afternoon on. He rearranged his sunglasses on his face. The floridian sun was out and he wanted to enjoy it as much as possible before crossing the country in a few hours.
Miami had become his home seven years ago when his uncle had to flee National City. He swallowed hard; the bitter taste of his uncle retreating because of a woman still made him slightly sick.
Morgan Edge had done a service to the community by eliminating the head of the Luthor clan, his wife and kid. Unfortunately, he missed the last one. She had flooded the city with money and used her influence to get information about the hit on her parents and brother. Thankfully, Edge’s reputation for merciless violence had kept his name out of snitches’ mouths but still as a precaution, he had eliminated anyone that could tie him to the hit and relocated on the west coast.
Now, after seven years, Morgan Edge had decided that he wanted to get back to National City. He had accumulated favours and power in Miami and was certain that it would keep him safe
Mike stood up, poured himself some lemonade and took a long gulp. He picked up the little box he carried with him at all times like a lifeline. He emptied some of the white powder on the mirror next to his glass, arranged it in a thin line and snorted it. He shook his head and groaned. The first hit of the day was always the best one, he thought.
He checked his phone. Time to go. His uncle didn’t like waiting and Mike wanted to make sure to see his face when he learned what he had arranged. He chuckled, already enjoying the praise he was sure he would get from his uncle.
He went back inside and got dressed. When he was done, his bodyguard announced that his uncle wanted to see him. He smiled knowingly and followed the guard.
“Uncle!” he boomed as he entered the room.
Morgan Edge looked at him and sighed. He dismissed the man on the guest chair and motioned for Mike to sit down.
“Mike…” Morgan sighed, already regretting allowing his sister to burden him with his good for nothing nephew. He was a bastard that Reah had given birth to out of wedlock. His father was either the bouncer of a club Reah had heavily frequented or a small coke dealer that was now dead. Given Mike’s proclivities, the coke dealer was most likely the lucky winner.
“When we get to National City, I want you to go directly to the hotel and wait for me. I have a few people to meet.” Edge said.
“But–” Mike protested.
Morgan put his hand up, stopping the complaints he knew were coming. “No, do as I say. Show me you can take orders and then I will give you more to do…” Morgan explained.
“I can do more than just take orders!!!” Mike sneered.
“You can’t do shit!” Morgan shouted, angrily. “Have you forgotten how the last mission I gave you went?” He challenged him. When Mike stayed silent, he continued “you killed the wrong guy and I had to clean up your mistake. So follow the fucking orders!” he yelled.
Mike nodded, knowing better than talking back. His time would come and his uncle would regret talking to him like that. He kept his mouth shut about the little clandestin mission he conducted and left his uncle’s office, slamming the door.
Edge sat back down and passed his hand in his hair angrily. That nephew of his would be the death of him, he thought. He needed to keep him on a tight leash, he couldn’t afford to make any waves. He picked up the phone and waited for the call to connect.
“Dey?” Edge asked.
“Yes, boss.” William Dey answered.
“Take Lockwood with you and do not leave my nephew’s side.” he ordered.
“You got it boss,” Dey answered.
Edge hung up the phone, knowing that his orders would be carried out. He could already hear Mike whine at the precaution but he didn’t care. It was too important to remain low key. At least at first, he thought, laughing. That bitch wouldn't see him coming.
*********************
Lena looked up as she got out of the car. The new building was impressive. Twenty floors of office space ready for her family and her allies to move in. She could only imagine the view from where her office would be on the twentieth floor.
“Not too shabby, boss” J’onn said, whistling as he looked up.
Lena laughed. J’onn had been with her since she was fifteen and her dad had decided that she needed to have some protection with her at all times. He had seen her at her worst when her parents and brother died and at her happiest when she fell in love with Kara and married her. His smile betrayed the pride he felt seeing her succeed and take the family legacy higher.
“Not too shabby indeed, my friend,” she replied.
Sam walked around the car and looked at the both of them. “What are we waiting for?” she asked. “We pretty much own the joint, you know,” she added.
They both laughed and followed her inside. The real estate agent was waiting for them beaming, probably already thinking of the commission he was going to make on the sale.
“Miss Luthor,” he gushed. He extended his hand.
“Mrs Luthor” Lena corrected him.
“Of course, sorry” he said, looking worriedly between Sam and J’onn. “I didn’t mean… to offend you,” he added.
She nodded, not caring one bit what he wanted or not.
“Shall we sign that contract, Máquina ?” Andrea said in greetings. She took her sunglasses off and smiled at Lena.
Andrea knew how to make an entrance. Lena shook her head at the old nickname. Andrea had thought her too studious and started calling Máquina when they were at university. “How are you, a chara ?” Lena replied, using her own nickname for Andrea, my friend in irish.
“Good. Ready to own a quarter of that building. Do you remember little Nia?” Andrea asked. She wrapped her arm around Nia’s shoulder. Nia groaned at the nickname.
“I do. How are you, Nia?” Lena asked.
“Good, thanks” Nia replied. “Wait… what do you mean a quarter?” Nia asked, confused.
“Yeah, that’s not the agreement we had..” Sam protested.
Andrea looked at the women who just spoke. She didn’t recognise her. She eyed her a little bit longer than necessary, taking in the long brown hair, kind eyes and delicate features. She was beautiful. “You must be Sam” she stated, guessing that Lena would only take her most trusted partner with her. She never met Lena’s cousin when she was studying in the States and now she regretted it.
“I am. Sam Arias.” she said, giving Andrea a once-over. “Nice to meet you, Miss Rojas.” she added.
“Andrea please.” Andrea replied, waving the formality. “Pleasure is all mine,” she purred huskily. She took Sam’s offered hand and kissed the top of it.
Sam huffed. She knew all about Andrea’s reputation and she didn’t need that in her life. A stunning woman appreciating her was flattering but she wasn’t going to risk her heart for someone like that. “I don’t doubt that.” she replied.
Lena cleared her throat. “Now that everyone knows everyone. The reason Andrea is going to own only a quarter, like I would is because you and Nia will own the rest.” Lena explained.
“Really?” Nia squealed, looking at Andrea for confirmation. When Andrea nodded, Nia jumped on her. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” she cheered.
“Manita, get off of me” Andrea urged her. She was laughing though.
Sam looked at the scene between the two sisters. Maybe Andrea was more than meets the eyes. Not that it matters, she admonished herself.
The agent got the contract out and spread them on the counter. “If everyone is ready…” he announced.
The four women nodded to each other. They made a beeline to sign the documents. A few signatures and initials later, the agent handed them the key card and keys of the building and signed documents. “It’s a pleasure to do business with you. Let me know if you need more real estate.” he added. When nobody said anything, he took his leave, not caring one bit about their reaction. The multi million dollars commission on the deal would allow him to retire on an island.
J’onn brought a bottle of irish whisky to the counter and a few glasses. “To celebrate” he said, winking at Lena.
She shrugged and poured five glasses. “To old friends and new ventures, sláinte! ” Lena exclaimed. She waited for everyone to grab a glass and took a sip.
“Not that I don’t want to continue celebrating,” Sam started, “but your wife is waiting for me…So I have to go” she announced.
Lena nodded to her and went back to her conversation with Nia. Sam made sure to gather all the paperwork to file for later and put them in her bag.
“Hope it’s not the last time I get to see you…” Andrea chanced, her voice taking a playful tone. She leaned her hip on the table, stepping closer to Sam.
“We have more business meetings this week so you’ll probably see me there.” Sam replied not looking up from her bag, making it clear that she wasn’t interested in anything else.
Andrea was charming and Sam was attracted to her but it was a disaster waiting to happen. She’ll get a few hours in the sack with Andrea and maybe a repeat then she’ll get attached and crushed when Andrea would move on. No, it wasn’t going to work, Sam thought.
Andrea frowned. She usually had no problem getting a woman interested. She would turn on the charm, throw some well thought out lines and just like that she would get a date. Apparently Sam Arias was immune to her charm. For whatever reason it bothered her more than she imagined it would.
“I.. hmm.. I’ll see you at dinner then…” Andrea replied, flustered by the clear rebuttal.
Sam looked up from her bag this time. She eyed Andrea and nodded. “See you at dinner.” she added after a pause. Her phone chirped. She looked at the caller ID. “Shit, gotta go.” Sam said. She rushed to the door, leaving a stunned Andrea.
“¡Me estás jodiendo! ” Andrea whispered in disbelief.
*********************
Sam swore as she got out of her car. She was late and Kara was going to kill her for making her wait. She checked her watch as she entered the White Orchid, thirty eight minutes late. She spied Kara from afar. She was checking her phone and sipping a cocktail. Megan was sitting at the table next to her scanning the room for potential threats.
“Can I help you?” the hostess asked.
“No, my friend is over there, thank you” Sam replied, pointing in Kara’s direction.
The hostess eyed Sam warily. She knew who Kara was and more importantly who her wife was. Sam raised an eyebrow at the woman’s attitude and shook her head. People regularly gave her that kind of look when she mentioned who she worked for and who she was. She walked past her and let it go.
“Sam!” Kara exclaimed when she noticed her.
“I’m sorry I’m so late. Our meeting ran out. Lena asked me to give you that” she said, bending and kissing her cheek. Kara laughed at Sam’s silly joke.
“It’s okay. Megan has been keeping me company.” Kara replied. “How was the meeting? Will I get to see my wife at dinner?” she questioned.
“Of course, you will. By the way, Andrea and Nia are eager to meet you.” Sam answered. She went quiet after mentioning Andrea’s name. Her encounter with the Rojas heir had left her unsettled. She sighed.
Kara cocked her head to the side, observing Sam. “So did you like the surprise?” Kara asked. She could detect something weird in Sam’s behaviour but she couldn’t put her finger on it.
“You knew?” Sam wondered. “You little…” Sam began.
Kara nodded, not regretting keeping the secret. “You deserved it. After everything you’ve done for the family.” Kara emphasised. She placed her hand over Sam’s and patted it.
Sam flushed at the display. She cleared her throat. “So shopping?” Sam asked.
Kara nodded, biting her lower lip. “I need a new dress. Something…” she started.
“Sexy?” Sam offered.
Kara laughed. “Yes, sexy. What about you?” Kara asked.
Sam remembered how Andrea had scanned her body from head to toe. She knew she looked good in a pantsuit but she wondered how Andrea would react if she wore something a little more revealing. She closed her eyes, imagining Andrea’s hot gaze on her skin. She had gotten a glance of the fire under the persona when Andrea had talked to her and she wanted to see more.
“Sam?” Kara called out, “Sam!” she repeated, waving her hand in front of her face. “Where did you go and with whom?” Kara questioned.
“Hm… I… I was thinking about what to wear….” Sam lied.
“Then let’s find something!” Kara suggested. She motioned for Megan to take care of the bill and took Sam’s arm.
They walked the few blocks to the designer shop Kara frequented regularly. Freddie, her personal shopper, was waiting for them with a selection of clothes. Kara tried on a few outfits and settled for a tight green dress.
Kara insisted for Sam to try on some clothes as well. The first few outfits were nice but Kara shook her head. She let Sam go change, hearing grumble about it.
“Karaaaa” Sam whined.
Kara had a word with Freddie. He nodded and went to find another outfit.
“One more, I promise,” Kara pleaded.
Sam grunted and relented. She waited for Freddie to come back. He passed her the outfit Kara had chosen. She looked it over and smiled. Kara was something else. She slipped the clothes and got out of the fitted room.
“So?” Sam asked, twirling.
Kara nodded slowly in approval. “Perfect !! We just need shoes now.” Kara replied.
Sam groaned at the idea of having to go to another shop. “One more shop… Just one more” she warned Kara.
“I promise,” Kara said.
Kara chose to go to the shop across the street. Megan followed them closely, observing the street and staying vigilant for any threats. She noticed a few looks and pointed fingers but ignored them.
Further away, she caught sight of well known figures trailing them. These particular FBI agents were usually on Lena’s details. She made a note to mention it in their security briefing. She let it go for now and held the door for Sam and Kara to let them in.
As Sam went searching for the perfect shoes matching her outfit, Megan kept an eye on Kara from afar. She made herself inconspicuous, curious of what the agents who entered after her were going to do.
Kara picked up a pair of heels and examined them. She hummed unconvinced by the pair of shoes. As she put them back on the shelf, she felt a presence next to her. She looked up and kindness disappeared from her face.
“Looking for shoes, Agent?” Kara inquired, not a hint of sympathy in her voice. She looked at the woman's boots and huffed. “You do need a better stylist. That’s for sure…” she mocked.
“I’m not here to shop. I’m here to have a chat with you, Kara…” Danvers offered. She mustered as much charm and compassion as she could and continued “I’m worried about you and your safety…”
Kara scoffed. The tactic was new, she gave her that but she knew very well what the agent wanted. “Agent…” she said, letting it trail in hope to get a name.
“Danvers, Alex Danvers,” she said.
“Agent Danvers, what about my safety?” Kara asked.
“I’m not sure you realised what you got yourself into with Lena…” Alex insinuated.
Kara looked at the woman and laughed. “And what did I get myself into then?” Kara pressed.
“Lena is a butcher. She rules by having people fear her. She will turn on you like a rabid dog the moment she doesn’t see a use for you. Trust me, I have seen this happen more than once. It’s always the same story.” Danvers insisted. “I wouldn’t want someone like you, someone from a good family and spotless record, to take the fall for this criminal.” Danvers added.
She smiled seeing Kara listen intently to her arguments. Kara nodded in all the right places and Danvers continued.
“But for example, if you were to help us here and there… Then when it all goes down, and we both know it will, I’ll protect you.” Alex proposed.
Kara smiled. So that was the plan: get her to betray Lena. She shook her head at the stupidity of the agent.
“I’m going to stop you right now. Lena is a business woman. She owns a club, a pub and some real estate. She’s well respected by her staff and she’s nothing like what you’re describing.” Kara informed the agent. She moved away from her and joined Megan who came closer without Danvers noticing. Before she went to find Sam, Kara turned around and clarified “Oh and it’s Mrs Luthor for you by the way. And if I catch you following one more time, I’ll file a lawsuit so fast that your boss at the FBI won’t know what hit them…”
Alex Danvers looked stunned as she watched Kara Luthor walk away from her. Lucy stepped closer and looked at Alex. “What the hell just happened?” Lucy asked.
“I think we got the wrong idea. Kara Luthor is not the kitten I thought she was. She’s got claws and I just got scratched pretty badly.” Danvers replied, already thinking about damage control.
******************
“Have I told you how beautiful you are tonight?” Lena asked. She let her eyes roam on Kara’s body, enjoying the low neckline exposing the top of Kara’s breast behind black lace. She couldn’t wait to run her tongue on the exposed flesh.
“You have but I won’t mind if you say it again.” Kara replied, amused by the look of pure lust Lena was giving her. She knew that look very well. She’d seen it before when Lena was describing what she wanted to do to her. She almost wanted to skip dinner altogether. She brushed her fingers on Lena’s inner thigh, teasing, testing. The creamy skin felt hot against her fingertips and she pushed further towards Lena’s core.
“Something you want, lass” Lena asked, her voice already tight with need.
Kara laughed innocently while she continued her exploration, first teasing Lena’s lips through the fabric of Lena’s underwear, then finding her clit. The pressure wouldn’t be enough to make her come but she was in a teasing mood and they had all night.
Lena hummed trying to cover her moan when Kara’s fingers found the perfect spot. Kara applied a bit more pressure and Lena’s hip bucked against her hand, seeking more. Lena was relieved that the limousine had a partition window otherwise J’onn would have received a show.
“Sooo eager…” Kara whispered, knowing exactly what she was doing and enjoying every second of it. She decreased the pressure, making her touch feather like. The wetness was already seeping through the lacy fabric of Lena’s underwear so she spread it all over her folds, taking her time.
Lena moaned and pushed against Kara’s hand with insistence. “Kara…” She breathed unsure how to finish the sentence. She grabbed Kara’s wrist stalling her retreat and pushed against her fingers.
The car slowed down announcing their imminent arrival. Kara made one more pass on Lena’s clit before Lena let go of her wrist reluctantly. Kara removed her hand much to Lena’s disappointment at being interrupted. She shifted in her seat uncomfortably. The pool of slick juice had soaked through her underwear and would remind her of Kara’s fingers on her for the rest of the night.
She looked up at Kara ready to scold her but was stopped by one of the sexiest sights. Kara sucked on her fingers greedily, humming at the taste. She made a show of twirling her tongue around each digit.
“So good” she murmured, “Can’t wait to taste more…Too bad we don’t have more time” she chuckled.
Lena groaned, wanting nothing more than to let her. “You might regret doing this when I’m buried deep inside you and won’t let you come… This is grounds for a lengthy punishment” Lena declared, knowing what these words would do to her wife.
Kara licked her lower lips where some of Lena’s juice had dripped from her fingers. The stern words made her heart beat faster. Her skin flushed, ready for anything Lena had in mind. “I’ll be good, I promise.” Kara whispered.
Lena nodded as the black SUV stopped in front of the restaurant. J’onn got out and checked his surroundings before opening the door. A few tourists gawked at the women exiting the car. The restaurant was famous for catering to all types of criminal and organised crime families. Since the Luthor reputation was legendary in National city, Lena received more looks than others but she ignored them, preferring keeping her attention on her wife.
Lena tangled her fingers with Kara and smiled. She enjoyed their little game. Later tonight, she would teach Kara a lesson about teasing but now, she intended to enjoy her evening with their friends and family.
They entered the restaurant and the hostess led them to their table without asking for a name. Andrea and Nia were already here. Lena squeezed Kara’s head and guided her to her chair.
Kara was excited about meeting Andrea and Nia after hearing so much about them from Lena. She could feel the eyes on them as they walked through the restaurant.
“Ladies,” Lena said as she approached the table. She got Kara’s chair and let her seat. Kara smiled shyly at the two women facing her.
Andrea looked up and smiled. “Finally! I get to meet Mrs Luthor” Andrea purred.
Lena shook her head at her friend's antics. “Yes, so behave.” she retorted.
Andrea gasped exaggeratedly, mocking her. “I always behave.” she replied with a twinkle in her eyes that clearly begged to differ.
Nia guffawed at the blatant lie, ignoring the stern look from Andrea. “Yeah, yeah, you’re an angel–” she commented.
“A good girl maybe?” Sam interrupted with a smirk.
Andrea looked up at the other woman. She hadn’t seen her come towards the table and her comment about being a good girl hit her more than she cared to admit it.
Sam smiled as she studied Andrea’s reaction. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips slightly parted in surprise and her body inclined towards her. But what she liked the most was the little light in Andrea’s eyes she saw flash at the words. She recognised it for what it was: lust.
“You wish…” Andrea croaked, making everyone around the table laugh.
Sam hummed contemplating the answer and shrugged. “Too bad…” she added before seating next to Andrea.
The whole table erupted in laughter again but Andrea’s eyes were glued to Sam. The red dress Sam had chosen was perfect for her. The long skirt and adjusted top complimented her figure and the open sides and straps showed enough skin for Andrea’s mind to wonder how it would feel like to run her fingers on it.
“You look amazing… delicious I should say…” Andrea whispered.
Sam huffed at the flirty line and shook her head. Maybe she misinterpreted the look she saw earlier. Andrea didn’t seem the type to respond to praises.
“Thanks” Sam answered curtly, effectively cutting that line of conversation. She turned her head towards the other side of the table and missed the frustrated look from Andrea.
The rest of the meal was spent exchanging stories from the past and how Andrea managed to not be expelled from school after a scandal involving the daughter of the principal and how Lena broke some guy's nose for trying to kiss her. They laughed a lot and Kara felt she had found a new friend and ally in the younger Rojas sibling. It didn’t stop her from noticing the looks Andrea and Sam threw at each other when they thought no one was looking. She catalogued that information for later. Sam had been adamant that she wasn’t looking for anything but her eyes lingering on Andrea’s lips said something else.
*********************
Kara unzipped Lena’s dress slowly. She kissed her back, making Lena shiver. “How long will you be?” Kara asked.
“An hour at the most. I don’t intend to spend the night dealing with this idiot.” Lena replied. She turned to face Kara and smiled. “I remember you saying something about getting lucky…” Lena purred.
Kara laughed. Her wife really had a one track mind. “Well, hurry up and get back… You’ll find out how much luck I can take…” Kara teased.
“Are we talking inches? I remember promising you some punishment earlier for being naughty…” Lena asked, letting her sentence unfinished.
“Whatever you feel like when you come back, my love.” Kara whispered huskily.
Lena hummed, her mind already racing at the idea. “I’ll be quick. I promise…“ she said, kissing Kara on the lips to seal the promise.
She grabbed a pair of black jeans and light grey turtleneck to wear for her impromptu meeting and put them on. It only took a few minutes to get ready. One more look at Kara reading in bed and soon she was on her way.
When she went downstairs, J’onn was waiting for her. “Are they still parked outside?” she asked, referring to the FBI detail present around the clock.
“Yes but I took some precautions.” J’onn replied.
She nodded and they made their way to the garage where a large SUV and a sedan were waiting for them. The SUV would serve a decoy while they exit the property unnoticed in the sedan. J’onn had organised for two additional guards to drive the SUV. They went out first and Lena observed the FBI taking the bait and following the big car.
Once certain that all the agents were gone, she got in the back of the sedan and J’onn drove them to the location Sam had arranged.
The warehouse district was quiet at this hour, most people having gone home for the night. It was the perfect location for a chat of this nature. J’onn drove steadily, passing identical warehouses one after the other. He slowed down at the fourth and stopped the car in front of the fifth warehouse. It was a medium size hangar that belonged to one of Lena’s subsidiaries. It was buried so deep that it would take months for the FBI to figure out who the owner was and Lena intended to keep it that way.
They got out of the car and entered the dimly lit building. Groans and grunt could be heard already as well as Megan's low voice issuing warnings about lying. Their steps resonated on the concrete floor informing Megan of their arrival.
“You’re right on time. I was going to inform this guy of the rules of the game for tonight.” Megan said, indicating the man tied up to the chair.
The man squirmed in the chair, fighting around the ropes biting in his flesh. He mumbled something around the gag she'd put in place earlier. His nose was broken and swollen and blood and snot ran down his chin and into his mouth. His arms were lying flat tied to the armchair.
“Will he be a good student?” Lena asked.
“Well… it remains to be decided…” Megan replied. “Shall we?” she suggested, indicating the gag.
Lena nodded and Megan removed the gag.
“You bitch!! you’ll pay for this!!” the man yelled before spitting blood at Lena’s feet.
J’onn was so fast that he didn’t see the fist coming until it landed on his face. Pain erupted on his cheek and he cried.
“Rule number one: Only speak to answer our questions.” J’onn enunciated.
“What’s your name?” Lena asked, knowing the answer already.
“Santa, bitch.” the man answered.
Lena sighed at the stupidity. This time, it was Megan who striked him but instead of her fist, she cut him with the blade of her butterfly knife she always carried with her.
The man cried in pain and writhed on the chair trying to stop the bleeding on his leg. The cut wasn’t life threatening but it was deep enough for blood to flow profusely.
“Rule number 2: If you lie or try to be smart, you get hurt…” Lena explained in a matter of fact way.
“What’s your name?” Lena tried again.
“I don’t answer to nobody, whore. Go fuck yourself.” He screamed.
Lena nodded at J’onn and he handed his gun to her. She stepped closer to the bound man. She placed the gun on top of his hand and pulled the trigger. The deafening sound resonated in the warehouse followed quickly by the anguished screams of pain.
“I can do that all night you know… It won’t kill you but you’ll certainly wish you’ll be dead” Lena said, over the whimpers of the man. “What’s your name?” she repeated.
“Snapper Carr” the man replied, sobbing.
“See, that wasn’t so hard.” Lena commented. “Who hired you to kill my employees?” she asked angrily. The thought of these three kids dead for nothing made her blood boil.
Snapper Carr had never been particularly lucky in his life but tonight as he watched Lena enter the warehouse, he realised that it was even worse than he thought. He wasn’t ready to die yet and maybe if he told her she would let him go, he thought.
“Mike….” he whimpered.
“Mike who?” she asked, placing the gun on his elbow as a warning.
“Mike Matthews.” Snapper croaked.
Lena’s eyes narrowed. She knew the name but she didn’t remember where from. She made a note to have Brainy doing more research. Too many strangers were coming into her life, she needed to do her homework. She had all the info she needed. She raised the gun to Snapper’s forehead and squeezed the trigger.
The shot echoed in the silence and Snapper’s body slumped in the chair. “Clean it up. Burn the ropes and the clothes. You know what to do with the body.” she instructed.
Megan hummed in answer and took the gun from Lena. It would take a couple of hours for her to take care of it and then she’ll be back at the house.
Lena walked back to the car with J’onn behind her. She was silent during the drive, lost in her thoughts. The images of the bodies they found on the dock and the smug face of Agent Olsen flashed in her mind. She sighed. Tomorrow she would take care of all that. She checked her watch and sighed. It had taken more than the hour she promised it would take to Kara.
The house was dark when she entered. Sam had gone home for the night and Andrea and Nia were in their room. She climbed the stairs leading to her room where Kara would be. Probably asleep at this hour, Lena thought.
She walked along the corridor trying to make as little noise as possible. The soft glow of the light inside her room filtered under the door. She pushed the door open and smiled. Kara had tried to stay awake but ended up falling asleep with her book on her chest. She looked peaceful and serene. Lena observed her for a few moments and went to get changed. She took a quick shower wanting to rid her body of the grim of the warehouse.
When she finished her shower, didn’t bother with clothes and slipped in bed naked. She grabbed Kara’s book and put it on her bedside table. Kara stirred, she blinked and gave Lena a lazy smile.
“You’re home..” she said, yawning.
“I am.” Lena replied, amused by the cat like purr Kara let out as she pressed herself against Lena’s body. “Go back to sleep, darling.” she whispered, kissing the top of Kara’s head.
“But I wanted you to do…things to me…” Kara protested, half asleep.
“Tomorrow, we’ll do anything you want, lass” Lena chuckled, gathering her wife in arms. She laid awake for a few minutes, the event of the evening still fresh in her mind. Kara must have felt the tension in her muscles, she nestled her face in the crook of Lena’s neck and kissed the soft skin she found. Slowly, Lena relaxed until it was enough for her to fall asleep.
Chapter Text
A soft kiss on her forehead woke her up. The bed shifted as Lena tried to disentangle herself from Kara’s body but Kara was having none of it. She gripped Lena’s tighter. “Stay” she whined with a sleepy voice. She circled Lena’s waist with her arm and burrowed her face against her chest, rubbing her nose against the soft skin.
“I need to go to the office, sleepyhead.” Lena murmured unconvinced, wanting nothing more than to stay in bed with her wife.
“Hm hm” Kara agreed. She kissed Lena’s chest, revelling in the feeling of soft skin under her lips. Slowly, she made her way to Lena’s mouth, trailing kisses along her neck and jaw before capturing her lips.
Lena responded quickly, threaded her fingers in Kara’s hair, bringing her closer. She bit Kara’s lower lip only to lick the same spot. Kara’s moans against her lips made her even bolder. She pushed her tongue inside Kara’s mouth, softly caressing Kara’s tongue with hers. Every kiss they shared felt like coming home and this morning wasn’t any different. Lena pulled away from the kiss and looked down at her wife.
Kara was wide awake now and the lust in her eyes made Lena smirked. She was responsible for the heated look Kara was sporting and this was the only power that mattered to her.
Lena rolled Kara on her back. “I seemed to remember someone being naughty in the car….” she mused. She kissed Kara’s collarbone, slowly nibbling on the smooth skin. “I could do with some breakfast,” Lena commented with a wolfish grin.
Kara laughed. She loved Lena’s playful side that only a few got to see. “Well, I volunteer…” Kara replied with a daring look, offering her breast to Lena.
“You’re playing with fire, Mrs Luthor…” Lena warned. She slowly lowered her head and hovered over her wife’s hardened nipples. She flicked her tongue over one and Kara moaned at the stronger than usual sensation. Lena didn’t stop, she took the other one between her lips and sucked on it earning herself another moan from Kara’s lips. When she bit the base of the nipple, Kara hissed in pain.
Lena released the sensitive flesh quickly and checked on her wife. Kara was sensitive but it usually took a lot more to get that kind of reaction. “You’re okay?” she asked, concerned.
“Yeah, just sensitive.” Kara replied.
Lena raised her eyebrow at her in question and smiled. The doctor had told them the symptoms of pregnancy for the first few weeks and Lena made sure to remember all of them.
“No, we don’t know. Don’t start” Kara warned with a big smile on her face.
Lena smiled even more at how cute her wife sounded when she tried to be stern. She kissed the bruised flesh softly and looked at Kara. “I’m going to skip the office this morning and call the doctor to get us in.” Lena suggested.
Kara smiled at the wishful look in Lena’s eyes. They had talked about starting a family and Lex had made sure it would be possible for her to have children that would carry the Luthor's genes.
“We should wait and don’t get your hopes up. It could be anything.” Kara whispered. She was hoping that a test would come back positive but the doctor had made it clear that it would take multiple tries.
“I won't, I promise.” Lena replied before kissing her again. “How about we take a shower together before we have some breakfast. I heard Maria talking about breakfast burrito yester–” Lena didn’t have to finish the sentence that Kara bolted out of the bed and into the ensuite bathroom.
The sounds of retching noises quickly followed her escape. Lena scrambled out of bed and found Kara kneeling over the toilet vomiting. She knelt next to her and rubbed her back as she was sick. When Kara stopped vomiting, Lena gave her a clean towel and some water.
“I think you should call the doctor.” Kara finally said. Lena smiled and went to find her phone.

The trip had been gruelling. Edge sighed as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. He had tried to drown Mike’s whinings during the whole journey with his work but now that they were approaching their descent and he needed to talk to his men, there was no way he could ignore him.
“Mike!! That’s enough!!!” he screamed. Everyone in the plane jumped at the loud voice. Before Mike could say anything Edge continued “you will do as I say and keep Dey and Lockwood close by. Today is not the day to fuck up. We want to come in unannounced to either the FBI or that bitch and we both know that your flashy behaviour is nothing but inconspicuous.”
The warning in his voice was clear. Any deviation from the order will be taken as a challenge and Morgan Edge didn’t take challenges very well. He usually squashed it with as much strength as he possessed. Mike nodded and looked by the plane’s window pouting like a kid.
“Now,” Morgan said, turning towards his most trusted lieutenant, “Where were we, Otis?” he asked with a vicious smile.
“We know where she will be tonight. Our source is very solid.” Otis replied with a dangerous smile. “The way I see it we could strike tonight and be done with it…” he added.
“No, no, tonight we are laying the foundation. We’ll stay in the shadows and when we strike she won’t see it coming.” Edge explained.
Mike huffed at his announcement. He still couldn’t believe that his uncle was so weak that he just ran from her but now seeing him cowering in dark holes to avoid her, it made him sick. Maybe it was time for a change of leadership.
“Do you have a comment to make, boy?” Edge yelled at his nephew. He was getting on his nerves. He couldn’t let the brat have the last word and let his provocations go unpunished.
“No, sir” Mike answered as he had done as a kid when he was reprimanded.
“Right…Let’s continue.” Morgan pronounced.
Otis’ plan was sound and Morgan nodded. Their identity would be kept secret for as long as they needed and then it wouldn’t matter. The plane started its descent. Otis had chosen to land in a small airport catering to private jets only a few miles away from National City. It came with a ground crew that had a tendency to not be able to recall who came through the airport.
The captain and its crew did the final checks and called for everyone to fasten their seatbelt before landing. Soon the jet landed on the tarmac and taxied towards the small decrepit building. Edge looked at it through the window and winced. It wasn’t up to his standard but it will do for this time.
They made their exit quickly avoiding cameras and prying eyes. In a few hours they would be in National City and he would be able to exact his revenge.

The fluorescent light of the hospital hallways flickered as they made their way towards Kara’s obstetrician office. Megan's imposing figure casted a long shadow as she walked in front of them. Both staff and patients eyed her warily but seemed to relax when they noticed Kara and Lena walking behind them.
Lena was well known in this hospital. She was their primary benefactor and many plaques on the wall alluded to her family generosity over the years. They were the reason why some of the patients could afford treatments.
Megan stopped at the entry of the waiting room and checked the occupants. Only three women were seated away from one another.
“This is just a waiting room, Megan,” Kara said, slightly irritated. She pushed past her and took a seat.
“It’s my job to keep you safe, Mrs Luthor.” Megan said before she moved to stand outside of the room and stood on the opposite side of the door throwing a look at John who just smiled.
“You’re okay, lass?” Lena asked, not used to Kara snapping at the bodyguards. She knew Kara would rather not have them around but she also understood why they were here.
“Yes, I’m sorry… I’m a bit anxious, I guess.” she whispered. She looked up at Megan and mouthed a ‘sorry‘. Megan just smiled and nodded.
Lena opened her arms and hugged her close. Kara sighed and seemed to relax as she circled Lena’s waist with her arms. “I want this so bad.” she whispered against Lena’s chest.
“Me too, my love, me too.” Lena replied as she kissed the top of her head.
It didn’t take long for Dr Casey Cain to call Kara’s name. Both bodyguards made a move to follow them inside the doctor’s office but Kara stopped them. “As much as I love you both, I think this is a private moment.” she said. They both nodded and went back to guard the door.
Lena chuckled at the guards. She was grateful that they loved Kara as much as they did but sometimes it was a bit overwhelming. She nodded to the doctor who nodded back and followed her wife.
“So I heard you’re having some symptoms…” Casey said all business.
“Yes, I am,” Kara said quietly, “but it’s probably nothing,” she added with a defeated tone.
“Why don’t you let me check so we can be sure?” Cain asked with compassion. It wasn’t her first patient hoping for a child on the first try. Her partner and her had been lucky but she didn’t always get to see the happy ending she wished for. “Follow me to the other room please.” she said as she stood up to guide them.
While the office was warm and full of baby pictures, hers and her patient’s, the examination room was cold and impersonal. “Sorry, this room is a bit chilly but it’s temperature controlled for sanitary reasons.” she explained, hearing Kara mutter about the cold as she disrobed behind the privacy curtain.
Cain patted the table. Kara climbed on it and Lena joined her side, holding her hand. She kissed her knuckles and smiled.
“I love you, lass, whatever news we get today doesn’t change that” Lena murmured.
Kara nodded and brought Lena’s hand to her lips. “I know and I do too.”
Cain made quick work of taking some of Kara’s vitals and jotted them down her charts. “I’m going to do an ultrasound. I’ll try an external one first but I might have to use an internal one if I don’t get a clear image.” Cain explained.
“Ready?” Cain asked, showing a bottle of gel to Kara.
Kara nodded and Cain poured some on her belly. The gel was cold on Kara’s abdomen. Kara shivered again and goosebumps appeared on her skin.
“Sorry, can’t do without it unfortunately.” Cain apologised. She placed the transducer on Kara’s lower abdomen and waited for a few seconds.
The first image appeared on the screen and she looked intently. The loud sound of the machine echoed in the room and both Lena and Kara held their breath without noticing.
Cain hummed as she moved the transducer slightly to the left and lower. Kara started to ask a question when a fast and loud thumping noise resonated in the room.
“Is that?” Kara started.
“Your baby?” Cain asked. Lena and Kara nodded through their happy tears. “Yes, it is,” Cain confirmed. “A healthy heartbeat for a healthy baby.” she commented. She frowned and smiled. “Well, what do we have here?” she chuckled. She moved the transducer towards the right and another heartbeat slightly out of rhythm started whoshing at the same time. “And we have another one. Another healthy heartbeat for another healthy baby.” Cain announced.
“Twin?” Kara squealed “We’re having twins!” she exclaimed.
Lena hugged her from the side. “We’re having twins” she repeated beaming at Kara.
“Let me take some pictures and measurements and I’ll get you a recording of the heartbeats you can listen to at home.” Cain suggested. It took her a few minutes to do everything and left Kara to get dressed.
Once Kara joined them back in the office. Cain and Lena were joking about buying stock in a nappies company.
As soon as Kara sat back, Cain cleared her throat and was back to business. “Ok, so we know when the conception was. So you’re about 12 weeks pregnant, so you have another 6 months to go roughly. I wrote the expected due date here. I will need to see you in 10 weeks for an ultrasound and another 2 times before giving birth. I’ll have my secretary arrange that with you and in the meantime, if you have any questions, problems or anything really, you have my phone number.” Cain explained.
Kara nodded, she instinctively rubbed her midsection making Lena smile. “When would I feel them moving?” she asked.
“Another 6 to 8 weeks, might be a bit earlier or later so don’t worry.” Cain replied.
“I can’t wait.” Kara whispered, squeezing Lena’s hand. “Thank you.”
They left the doctor's office with large smiles on their faces and the moment they stepped out, John and Megan knew that the family just got a little bit bigger.
“Where to, boss?” John asked.
“Home.” Lena replied, kissing Kara’s cheek. She looked at Kara with a question and Kara nodded “And John?” she called out.
“Yes, boss,” he said.
“Soon, you’ll get two more Luthors to protect,” she announced proudly.
John smiled and tears welled in his eyes. He cleared his throat and answered “It’s a good day to be part of the Luthor family.”
“That it is, my friend, that it is.” Lena replied, making Kara laugh.
************************
Lena looked at the action figure on the shelf and smiled. One day she would buy the same for her kids. She had loved playing with transformers with her brother when they were kids. Lex had been older when Lena was born and he took pride in teaching his sister about the cool stuff for older kids.
Much to her parents' dismay, he introduced her to the world of transforming robots, superheroes with capes and stories about samurai and yakuza families. Her mom spent countless hours listening to all the stories they made up and Lena was only too happy to share this new world with her parents. It was only later in life that Lex introduced her to fast cars and strip clubs but this, she never told her mom about it.
She smiled at the scolding Lex would have received for bringing a blushing sixteen year old Lena to one of the members only club he frequented for her birthday. She had just come out to him and was scared of his reaction and to reassure her that it didn’t matter to him he took her to the club to compare taste as he called it. It had been awkward and slightly unsettling at first but when Lena got over the embarrassment, Lex had patted her on the back before sending all the girls away. She still remembered his words ‘Nobody will be worthy of you in my eyes so you better pick a good woman.’ They had gone for burgers and fries after that and never talked about that night ever again. It had been his clumsy way of saying he didn’t matter to him.
“Hey, Lena,” Brainy called out as he entered the room.
She turned and smiled at him. “Hey Brainy,” she replied.
She found Brainy ten years ago, in a backroom of a bar doing numbers for a small time dealer. He has been a scared skinny kid with no meat on his bones that went by his given name Barney. She had taken the dealer out and cleaned that part of her territory but Brainy was innocent in the whole ordeal so she took him home with her, hoping to find his family.
After a few chats with him, she learned two things: one, his only known family, his mom, was dead a few years prior, killed by the dealer she just got rid of, two, he was a lot smarter than the gang who held him captive had accounted for. She quickly took a liking to him and suggested to him to stay in her family. Since then he had been like a little brother she never had. So she did what Lex had done for her. She introduced him to transformers, fast cars and girls.
It took years for him to explain what happened to him during all the years he stayed with the gang. She never asked. She offered compassion, a home and a brighter future, letting him decide what he wanted to share. After two years, he came to her one night and poured his heart out, the abuses, the beatings and the suffering. He never mentioned it again nor did she but the bond was forged, stronger together, she had told him.
In the same year, he revealed himself as a counter-surveillance and electronic genius, so she started calling him Brainy and to this day he was one of the few that got away with calling her Lena. Him, Sam and Kara, she thought.
“What are you building?” she asked, pointing at the workbench cluttered with electronics components and wires.
He shrugged as he always did when he was self-conscious and sat at the bench. “This is the new bug Jess brought me a few days ago. It’s inactive right now but it’s a brand new model so I wanted to study it to see if I needed to add more security…” he explained. “They are getting more advanced,” he added, pensively.
She waited. Brainy wasn’t the kind of person you wanted to rush. When he did say anything for a few minutes and started fumbling with his toolkit, she cleared her throat.
“Hm sorry…” he sighed, realising he hadn’t finished his explanation. “It’s advanced. I’ll beef up the security and I just added something fun for… us” he continued. The last part was said with a glimpse of mischief in his eyes. She knew that look all too well, she had the same when she messed up with the FBI.
“Will this added thing bring the FBI to my door?” she chanced with a chuckle.
“No, it’s not illegal, just very annoying.” he replied with a grin.
She hummed her agreement. “We missed you for dinner at the house last weekend…” she said. Brainy lived on the property in a small studio Lena had built just for him and he had a standing invitation to come for dinner but over the past few weeks, he had made himself scarce. “What’s happening?” she asked, sitting on the chair next to him.
“I know you’re busy… I didn’t want to interrupt your peace and quiet.. Even more now..” he confessed.
She nodded. “You know that whatever happens in my life, you’ll still be my little brother… and I know for a fact that Kara loves having you around.” Lena said. “She actually sent me to make sure uncle Brainy was okay. She was worried…” she let out, hoping that Brainy would catch the hint.
His eyes snapped up and met hers. “Really? Uncle Brainy? For real?” he asked, excited.
“Hmm hmm” she nodded. The large smile on her face and the tears in her eyes betrayed how happy she was to share this news with him. “Kara’s pregnant. In less than six months, you’ll be an uncle to the next generation of Luthors.” she announced proudly.
He jumped up and hugged her. There were only a few times she recalled him being this affectionate. She hugged him back and laughed at his excitement.
“I’ll be there Saturday, tell Kara to not worry and to take care of my niece or nephew” he replied before going back to his work.
“You’ll need to take care of two little humans. We’re having twins.” she told him.
Brainy gave her the warmest smile she’d seen on his face. “I will take care of both of them. Starting with transformers!!” he said.
She laughed knowing that her kids will be in good hands with Brainy. “Of course you will, uncle Brainy…” she replied, teasing him. “See you on Saturday.” Lena added. She casted one last look at his grinning face and left him to work.
************************
The van was cramped for him and the four men with him but he wasn’t crazy enough to go out without protection or to let his nephew handle the mission alone. He shifted in his seat and continued to watch his target.
She had grown into a beautiful woman, even him couldn’t begrudge her that. The long dark hair, the sexy curves on her body and that beautiful face would have been great to have for himself but he knew that it would never happen. For one, she would rather kill herself than be with him, she made that very clear some ten years ago and two, if the scene he was watching right now was any indication, Lena wasn’t anymore on the straight and narrow in her personal life than in her business.
He snickered at his own joke as he continued watching the pretty blond feed some dessert to Lena Luthor. Why the head of a crime family would do that in public was beyond him but it was to be expected when women were taking on men’s roles. Weak, he thought, that’s what it was.
He had followed her all day, staying far away enough to not be noticed by the FBI detail or by her own security. She had spent all her day, following around her arm candy, looking like a loving fool driven by her dick. He huffed at the image of Lena Luthor with a dick and discarded the image quickly as he felt a stir in his pants. He cleared his throat trying to regain composure and put the binocular down.
“Ok, so that’s what the mighty Luthor does all day?” Edge commented. “Should be easy enough to eliminate…” he added, already thinking about how he would take over her territories and make himself the new king. He liked that idea very much.
“Let's call it a day,” he said. “Mike, Dey and Lockwood keep the surveillance for the next few days. Otis, you’re with me.” he ordered. He threw a pointed look at Mike, daring him to comment on the order and nodded when nothing came.
Otis opened the back of the van and motioned for Edge to get out when a black sedan parked next to it. “See you in a few days with a detailed itinerary, places and people she frequents.” he threw over his shoulder and he was gone.
Mike stayed silent and even Dey and Lockwood were surprised by it. They looked at him then at each other and shrugged. Who knew what was going on inside his sick brain, they thought. They were better off not knowing.
Mike continued to stare at the scene in front of him. Contrary to his uncle, his eyes were glued to the blond woman on Luthor’s arm. The sweet smile, big blue eyes and lithe body stirred something in him that he never thought he would feel. He couldn’t look away even when she demeaned herself to kissing Lena Luthor.
At some point, the blond turned towards him and smiled as if she knew he was watching her. He couldn’t stop himself and smiled back. That’s when he knew for sure that he needed to have her.
He licked his lips, parched from hours of stake out and rubbed the front of his trousers. He felt himself swell inside his dress trousers and groaned. It took all his willpower to stop and not humiliate himself in front of his bodyguards.
“They’re moving. I’m driving” William said, climbing on the driver seat.
He stayed close for a few blocks and quickly recognised the road. The Luthors were not going home yet. A few turns in the downtown area where members only bar and gourmet restaurants sat side by side and their car stopped in front of the Obsidian. William sighed. It was going to be a nightmare to stay out of sight around the establishment. The casino was owned by no one other than Bernardo Rojas and his reputation for being fiercely protective of his privacy was second only to the Luthors.
“We need to park away from here and go inside if we want to continue the stake out.” he declared, already dreading having to talk with the three guards eyeing their van from afar.
“What? We can’t… What if they see us inside and make the link between us and Mr Edge?” Lockwood replied.
“No, he’s right,” Mike interjected before Dey could say anything. It was his chance to get closer to Lena’s woman and he wasn’t going to miss out on it. “It’s too dangerous to look like we are watching.” he added for good measure.
Lockwood shook his head, not believing they were going to do that but finally relented. “Ok…” he sighed.
William made a left turn and parked the van away from the prying eyes. They all went out leaving all their surveillance equipment in the van. They took the time to check themself making sure that their clothes wouldn’t stand out too much in the crowd but would still allow them access to even the most VIP parts of the casino.
Once satisfied, they made their way to the well guarded entry and waited to be admitted into the building. The bouncer studied them for a few seconds and Lockwood almost thought that they wouldn’t get in but to his biggest displeasure, the large man at the door nodded and indicated for them to come in.
************************
After ditching his bodyguards, Mike went to the bar and ordered two shots of tequila and a light beer. He downed the shots and sat at the bar to drink his beer. His eyes scanned the room, hoping to find the object of his attraction but not to avail. Most of the tables were full of gamblers big or small. The loud conversations, regular screams from winners and flashing lights made his search even more complicated.
He spied Lockwood making signs at him and followed his indication with his eyes. And here they were, Lena Luthor and the woman he considered his for the taking having a conversation with a black man. He took his time observing them. Luthor had her arm wrapped loosely around the blond waist in a possessive gesture. They leaned close to one another a sign of familiarity. Suddenly, the blond laughed at what the black man said and kissed Luthor’s cheek. Mike snarled at the sight. Disgusting, he thought. When she’ll be his, she’ll learn how to behave in public. PDAs like these were only for the weak. She will be kept in her place.
Lockwood gestured for him to hurry. He sighed at the idiot and nodded to dismiss him. It was time to make his entrance. He slowly strutted towards the blackjack table taking his time to check himself in the window. He nodded at his reflection and sat next to them. For a while he kept a low profile, betting small amounts and avoiding eye contact. He listened to their conversation hoping to get any kind of information about the blond woman. Kara, he thought, that’s what Lena Luthor had called her. He liked this name. Kara Matthews, he sounded very nice.
On the next hand, the house got twenty-one and Kara groaned as she lost her bet. It was his opening. “I can’t believe it !!” he exclaimed, shaking his head with a chuckle.
He turned slightly towards her. “I’m going to need some luck,” he said with a smile.
She looked at him, only now registering his presence. “Excuse me?” she asked.
He frowned at having to repeat himself. “I’m going to need some luck,” he repeated.
She eyed his small pile of chips amounting to a couple hundred dollars and smiled. “I would say so…” she confirmed with a chuckle.
Never in his life had a woman laugh at him like that. He scolded her but quickly schooled his features. There will be ample time to teach her how to respect him. “Would you be my luck tonight?” he asked, mustering as much charm as possible.
She smiled and shook her head. “Unfortunately, I’m not available for luck or anything else.” she replied. “My wife, over there” she added, pointing at Lena having a conversation with J’onn, “is the only person whom I bring luck to…” she finished.
“Your… wife?” he asked incredulously.
Her smile disappeared at the tone. “Yes, my wife. Do you have a problem with that?” she pressed.
He huffed at the question. “I have a problem with women acting like men,” he countered, “where I’m from, women obey their husbands and fathers…”
Kara stood up and put some distance between them. She grabbed her chips and turned towards him. “Maybe you should go back to where you’re from then…” she made a step towards Lena but Mike grabbed her wrist.
“You just need to be taught what’s good for you.” he said, tightening his grip on her.
“You need to let go of me right now or the little luck you had is going to run out completely.” Kara warned him.
“Who’s running out of luck, lass?” Lena asked from behind him.
Kara smiled at the colour draining from Mike’s face. “This… man” she started, making sure that he understood how much of a man she thought he was, “think that women should obey their husband or father…He seemed to take offence of us being married.” she added.
Lena laughed and shook her head. J’onn, who had been standing close, grabbed the man’s wrist and squeezed it, making him lose his grip on Kara. She shook her arm and rubbed the red skin. It would leave a mark. Lena must have seen the same thing and anger flashed in her eyes. “J’onn, can you please teach this manchild a lesson of courtesy?” she said, joining Kara’s side.
“With pleasure.” J’onn replied, grabbing Mike by the back of his neck and dragging him through the crowd.
Mike tried to break his hold but the more he struggled the stronger J’onn’s grip became.
“Stop making a spectacle of yourself, boy” J’onn ordered.
Mike tried to find Lockwood or Dey but they seemed to have disappeared in the crowd. Guess, luck really wasn’t with me, he thought.
Once outside, J’onn pinned him against the wall with his forearm pressed against his throat and grabbed his wallet with his free hand. He threw it to a woman, Mike didn’t even notice.
“Mike Matthew with a Florida Licence.” she commented as she went through his wallet. She pocketed the licence and put the rest back into the wallet. She remembered the name being mentioned by Snapper. She made a note to discuss this with Mrs Luthor later.
“What is Mike Matthew from Florida doing here?” J’onn asked. His tone left little to interpretation as to what would happen to Mike if he didn’t answer.
“Nothing… I’m just gambling…” he lied. “I swear…” he choked as J’onn pushed his forearm further against his larynx.
J’onn let go of him after a few seconds and Mike gasped for air. His lungs burned from the lack of oxygen. He took a deep breath but before he could exhale J’onn punched him in the guts. Mike stumbled backward and hit the wall like a rag doll once again trying to catch his breath.
“Next time you’re just gambling, don’t grab women.” J’onn suggested before punching him again. This time, he punched him in the face and broke his nose and split his lip. Mike grabbed his face and howled in pain. Blood pooled in his hand and spilled on the pavement and on his shoes. Megan threw his wallet at his chest and J’onn and her went back inside.
“Did you recognise the name? We need to keep someone on this guy.” J’onn said.
Megan smiled and held a small handheld device. “Already on it. I put a tracker in his wallet. I’ll send two men to his location once we’re inside.” she replied.
J’onn nodded. This guy screamed troubles and with the new arrivals in the family, J’onn wanted to make sure that any threats were dealt with accordingly.
Outside, Mike slid against the wall, grunting as the pain radiated through his whole body. He grabbed his wallet with his bloody hand and put it back in his jacket. Blood mixed with tears and mucus streamed down his face but he couldn’t care less. They would pay for that, he thought, he would make sure of it.
He groaned as he tried to stand up and slowly walk out the small alley. When he emerged on the main street, people looked at him with disgust. He patted himself and found his phone in his pocket. He dialled and waited for the call to connect. A feminine voice answered and he finally smiled. “Mom, I need your help,” he said. He grimaced at how nasal his voice now sounded, regretting it immediately as pain shot through his face.
“Where are you?” Rhea asked, already making arrangements to pick him up.
“In front of the Casino Obsidian.” he replied, taking a seat on a nearby bench.
“Someone will be there in 10 minutes.” she announced before hanging up.
He sighed. Edge might be the boss but his mom still had some pull in this city. Maybe he could build on this. With his uncle out of the way, we will take out Luthor and teach a lesson of respect to his Kara. He smiled at the thought of what he would do to her to break her and winced at the pain from his split lip.
A couple of minutes later, a black mercedes stopped in front of him and William Dey exited the vehicle.
“You?” Mike asked, surprised by the turn of events.
“Yes, me.” Dey sighed. He looked around worried about attracting too much attention to themselves. “Now get in. Your mom is waiting.” Dey urged Mike.

The trip back to the house was made in silence. Lena held Kara close to her side, needing the reassurance that she was safe. The angry red bruise on her wrist was starting to turn to purple and every time she glanced at it, Lena’s body tensed in anger.
“I need you to relax, my love. It’s not good for you to be this tense. I’m alright, he barely touched me.” Kara whispered, running her hand on Lena’s thigh. As always, she soothed Lena’s anger with soft touches and loving words.
“I can’t lose you. I was so scared. What if he had a knife?” she asked. Her voice shook, betraying her biggest fear, losing Kara because of the violence of her world. “You deserve better than that…” she let out in defeat.
Kara tensed in her arms. They had that talk multiple times over the years. Everytime the ugliness of their world came crashing, Lena started doubting her worthiness. Kara stopped her caress on Lena’s thigh and pulled away from her.
“I don’t care what you think I deserve. I want you. I thought I made myself very clear on that for the past five years. Do not make these years mean less because of an asshole that thinks his dick gives him all the rights.” Kara admonished her.
Kara was never one for using bad words but when it came to defend her love for her wife she was as ferocious as a wild animal.
“I don’t deserve you.” Lena breathed. “I–” she started but Kara stopped her.
“You deserve me and all the love you have. Don’t do that to us. Please don’t.” Kara pleaded with tears in her eyes.
Lena pulled her in a hug. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” she repeated against Kara’s hair. “I love you so much, I’m so scared of losing you, losing them” she said, pulling away from Kara and placing her hand on Kara’s belly.
Kara tangled her fingers with Lena’s hand on her midsection. “Stronger together.” she whispered.
“Stronger together.” Lena repeated. She cupped Kara’s face with her free hand and brought their lips together.
*************************
The office was quiet and dark at this time. Sam stretched her back and yawned into the empty room. Kara and Lena must have been back on their date and Sam was dredging going back to her place alone. She preferred the seemingly never ending buzz of activity from her cousin's place. There were always guards or Jess in the house and today was no different.
She checked the numbers of the last shipment and nodded to herself. Numbers were up, business was good and with the fabulous news of Kara being pregnant with twins, the Luthor Legacy was in good hands. She took a sip of her whisky and put the empty glass down on the coaster with a clink of ice against the glass. She should be getting home but the prospect of an empty house devoid of life wasn’t really appealing to her. A few more hours, she thought. After that she would be too exhausted to realise the house was empty and would just fall asleep.
A sultry laugh echoes in the corridor followed quickly by a flourish of Spanish words. Andrea. She almost forgot that the beautiful head of the Rojas family was staying at the house. Sam scolded herself for thinking about Andrea this way.
Sam pushed the image of Andrea out of her head. While she had seen signs of redeeming qualities in Andrea, the images of Andrea with the flavour of the night on the front page of today’s gossip rag was enough to make her ignore them.
She closed her laptop, stored it in the safe and went to the living room. On her way, she grabbed some popcorn hoping to find something decent to watch on TV. She didn’t bother turning the lights on and just plopped on the fluffy couch. A few minutes of channel surfing and she settled for a horror movie she’d seen dozens of times.
“Horror movie hm?” Andrea purred from the corner of the room.
Sam was so engrossed in the movie that she didn’t notice her coming into the room. She jumped when Andrea’s voice reached her. She stopped the movie and scowled at Andrea who was now laughing at her.
Andrea’s voice reached her again but this time, it was much closer. “Scared? Not so tough for a high ranking member of the Luthor family” Andrea quipped.
Sam looked up, a witty remark on the tip of her tongue but Andrea looked completely different, gone was the overtly sexy and tough looking persona. She was wearing loose fitted loungewear. It looked soft and comfortable. Her hair was hanging free on her shoulders. She must’ve passed her hand in her hair a few times as it was still slightly messy and Sam wanted only one thing: to pull her in for a kiss.
She pushed that image in the back of her mind. “No date tonight? You're losing your touch?” Sam replied a little bit more abruptly than she had anticipated. She wanted to take it back the moment she saw Andrea’s hurt look flashed in Andrea’s eyes.
“I should go,” Andrea sighed, not ready to argue and even less with Sam. She started making her way out of the room.
“Stay. I’m sorry. It was uncalled for.” Sam called out.
Andrea stopped and turned. She spent a few seconds pondering what to do. The look in Sam’s eyes was hard to read as Sam often was. She remembered the way Sam had looked at her at the dinner when she called her a good girl. There had been interest in her eyes. She nodded, having made up her mind.
“On two conditions…” she announced. “You promise to not assume that what you read in the tabloid is true and you share your popcorn.” Andrea added.
“You got yourself a deal,” Sam replied. She scooted on one side of the couch to leave some space for Andrea.
Sam restarted the movie after Andrea sat next to her. She stayed silent. It was the first time in a very long time that she watched a movie with someone other than her cousin or Kara.
“I love that movie,” Andrea whispered. “This is the best part.” she added. She mouthed every word of the movie and shook her head as the heroine started running after stabbing one of the killers leaving him for dead. “Amateur” she commented, making Sam laugh.
When the killer moved again and attacked the heroine once again, they exclaimed at the same “Always finish them!” They bursted out laughing at the situation while the woman on the screen wailed as she got stabbed.
As the movie progressed so did their conversation. They commented on how unrealistic some of the kills were, how it was too bloody or not bloody enough, and laughed at some of the poor acting performances.
By the time the credits rolled on the screen, they were yawning and snickering at each other's jokes. Sam checked her watch, it was past midnight.
“I should get going.” she announced. She wasn’t ready for her evening with Andrea to end but she needed to get some sleep. She put her shoes back on and went to grab her stuff.
“I thought you lived here?” Andrea asked after a few moments.
“I don’t. I live across the street but I spend an awful amount of time here.” Sam replied.
“Is it safe for you to just cross the street?” Andrea asked. It was dark outside and Sam was a well known figure in Lena's entourage. Anyone could have wind of her habit of crossing the street alone late at night and take advantage of it.
“J’onn will walk me there or one of the other guards. But I can take care of myself” Sam replied. She was slightly annoyed at the question but the concern in Andrea’s voice soothed her.
“Hmm hmm. Can I walk you home?” Andrea asked.
Sam smiled at the offer. She looked at Andrea’s outfit and shook her head. “As much as I love your softer side, you’re not dressed for going out and the same risks or even worse apply to you.” Sam replied. “Another time” she added before Andrea could argue.
“Hmmm. Let me walk you to the gate at least.” she countered.
Sam nodded knowing Andrea wouldn’t let go. She opened the wardrobe again and pulled out one of Kara’s long coats. She held it for Andrea to put it on. “So you don’t get cold” Sam said when Andrea looked at her in question.
Andrea shrugged and let Sam help her into the coat.
“Only to the gate” Sam reiterated, making Andrea groan.
She opened the door and one of the guards, Marco, was there as always waiting for her. “Miss Arias, Miss Rojas,” Marco greeted them. He let them go first and followed a few feet behind, close enough in case something were to happen and far enough to give them some privacy.
“Why do you spend so much time in this house and not yours?” Andrea asked, curious as to why someone like Sam was so solitary.
“It’s a long story. But long story short, it’s empty and depressing.” Sam replied.
“What about finding someone to share it with?” Andrea asked. The walk through the garden was nice at this time. It was colder than she anticipated but the coat Sam had chosen was perfect. She noticed that Sam took the long way around and it gave her a little bit of hope that maybe Sam wasn’t as indifferent as she wanted her to think.
Sam thought about it for a moment and finally answered. “I tried… They always want what I can’t give.” Sam said, her voice was filled with sadness. There was a story there, Andrea thought.
“What is it they want?” Andrea asked.
Sam let out a deprecating laugh. “The last one… She wanted me to give up my family’s legacy… She thought it was too dangerous.” Sam explained. “What she meant was she liked the money but not where it came from..” she added with a sigh.
“I wouldn’t do that…” Andrea replied in a whisper. She almost stopped herself and used one of her lines to flirt but at the last second she decided to be more authentic. Sam was stirring something in her that she hadn’t felt in a long time and under the moonlight with the smell of jasmine lingering around them, she went for honesty. It was something that she hadn’t done in a while.
Sam looked at her in surprise. She studied Andrea’s face. She tried to decipher what game Andrea was playing now but could find no hint of deception. “You’re volunteering?” Sam asked, chuckling nervously. It was as much of a move she was willing to make.
Andrea considered the question. “I guess I am.” she replied pensively.
“I don’t do one night stands,” Sam warned her.
“I’m not offering,” Andrea sighed, annoyed at the answer. “You promised to ignore the tabloids,” she added with a sad look.
“Ok” Sam blurted out. It was her chance to figure out if her intuitions about Andrea were true.
“Ok, you’ll go on a date with me or ok, you’ll ignore the tabloids?” Andrea countered.
“Ok, I’ll go on a date with you.” Sam answered.
They walked in silence for the rest of the way. When they reached the large iron gate. Sam stopped. “This is your stop,” she insisted.
Andrea shook her head at Sam’s stubbornness. “I guess it is…” Andrea replied softly. “Dinner tomorrow night?” she proposed.
San nodded. “Tomorrow, dinner,” she repeated. The screeching noise of the door opening made her jump. She realised that they had been standing awkwardly looking at each other, smiling like fools. She blushed.
“Thank you for the walk.” Sam breathed. She didn’t wait for the door to be fully open and squeezed through the opening. She joined Marco on the other side.
“My pleasure” Andrea whispered as she watched Sam cross the road and go into the house safely. She walked back slowly, stopping from time to time to smell the flowers.
“You can stop hiding. I know you’re here.” she called out.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to disturbed you. We just got back and I saw you talking to Sam at the gate. I thought you might need a friend” Lena replied.
“You’re getting soft on me, Máquina?” Andrea chucked.
“According to Kara, I was always soft inside,” Lena replied with a laugh. “You’re okay? You seemed… I don’t know…sad at the gate.” she added, offering Andrea the same thoughtfulness she’d offered throughout their friendship.
“Not sad, hopeful” Andrea replied with a smile. “Come on. Pour me one of your expensive whisky and I might just tell you more.” Andrea joked.
“Lead the way,” Lena suggested.
