Chapter 1: Dove and the Hunter
Chapter Text
You knew Shay when you came into the Creed after the death of your father who was a loyal friend to the Cause and you were welcomed as an Initiate. Shay saw how quickly you took the skills that the teachers showed you, especially Mistress Hope. Hope treated you like a daughter and was hard on you to do your best.
Often she’d tell you to be wary of Shay so his bad habits wouldn’t rub off on you. Of course it didn’t stop the two of you from just being together as friends. Even though you had feelings, you kept them to yourself to not compromise the friendship or your training.
Today you were just coming back from a simple mission which was running letters from the Homestead to other contacts outside. You wanted a bit more excitement like the missions Liam and Shay would go on. Mistress Hope said you weren’t ready for those yet but in time you would be.
You sighed happily as you saw the familiar homestead. A simple mission report and you were free to do whatever you please. A warm bath would be nice for your aching feet as they carried you a great distance.
Shay had just gotten back from sea and he asked about you. “Is she here?”
Kesegowaase shook his head. “But the little sparrow should be back today.”
“Alright.” He was tired but he always made time for you. He cherished you deeply, even Liam teased him for it when the two of them were on long haul missions. Of course he’d tell him to piss off but Liam was spot on.
“Are you ever going to tell her?” Liam whispered to him as they made their way up the dock.
“Ah hush you.” He scoffed. “When the time is right I will.”
“We’ll be old and gray when that happens Shay.” He snickered. “Maybe you need some luck to get you to spill.”
“I make my own luck.” He rolled his eyes.
—————————
You were just done giving your mission report when you saw Shay in front of the house. “Shay!!” You were so happy to see him that you practically jumped into his arms.
“Hello lass!” Shay caught you and held you close.
Liam snickered. “No hug for me?”
“Oh hush you Liam.” You teased him and gave him a hug too. “I missed you both so much. Please tell me you come home with stories.”
“Aye we do but I’ll let Shay do all the talking, I’m over due for a hot bath.” He looked at Shay and winked before walking away.
Shay took you back to the assassin’s quarters and was telling you about the journey. “But I can say I have missed you,”
“You did?” You couldn’t help but blush as you helped Shay unpack his sack.
“I brought you this.” He showed you a simple necklace with a small pink pearl.
“Oh Shay…” you were practically beet red at this point.
“Let me put it on you.” He gently moved your hair and clasped the necklace on. “Perfect fit.”
“Shay I…” you wanted to be out with it before you’d burst into flames. “I want to say something to you.”
“I believe I know dove.” He turned you around gently for you to look at him. “I feel the same way but we’ll have to keep secret. Can’t have our teachers breathing down our necks, hm?”
“You’re right.” You giggled, gently feeling the pearl. “It’s so beautiful.”
“Beautiful like you.” He decided to be bold and give you a kiss, feeling you smile against his lips. “I waited so long for this.”
“Me too…” You kissed him back, feeling lighter that now you two have made your feelings known.
————————
You were doing more missions on land while Shay was gone to sea. His next mission led him to Lisbon, Portugal. You asked for a small trinket from there since you were still too novice to be on the sea.
Shay was on the hunt for an object left by the ones who were here before and the clues led him below a cathedral. He took a moment to look at the architecture and pictured a day where you two would be married in the eyes of God. One day.
He followed the stairs going further down, wondering how much further it was to the object in question. He walked a narrow path and saw a strange shaped object suspended between two pillars.
He went to grab it, only for it to crumble in his hands, triggering an earthquake. Shay quickly ran for the stairs so he wouldn’t be stranded below ground. Everything above ground was going to hell. The earth was splitting at the seams and people were running in fear as the earth rumbled beneath them.
Shay ran through the rubble, dodging falling debris, he had to make it to the pier. He used all his strength to get back to the ship. He couldn’t die here. When he made a leap of faith, he rolled onto the deck of the ship, watching Lisbon crumble and he felt responsible.
He had to look away and he excused himself to his quarters where cried for all the lives cut short because of him.
—————————
You counted down the days when your Shay would come home, you had made him a bracelet with a precious stone you found on the beach and it would mean a lot to you if he wore it.
A ship pulled up the dock and you were so excited, you ran down the hill to meet your man.
Shay could see you running but he needed to confront Achilles for the mission he sent him on.
“Shay!” You were so happy but you stopped when you saw his face. Something was wrong and you waited for him to come to you.
“Dove.” He said softly and he brought you into his arms, holding you tight. “Wait for me by the fire, don’t come to the homestead.”
“Shay what’s the matter?” You could feel the anger radiating off of him.
“I’ll tell you everything soon…but please do as you’re told and wait for me by the fire.” He looked at you with pleading eyes.
“Ok Shay.” You nodded and he pressed his a kiss to your forehead and he went to the homestead.
He confronted Achilles and he was held back by Liam and Hope was shouting at him.
“How dare you say such things Shay?!” She was upset by the words she was hearing.
“You weren’t there Hope! You weren’t there! We shouldn’t be messing with these objects!”
“Get him out of here.” Achilles ordered Liam with a stern tone.
Hope shut the door behind the two men and Shay pushed Liam off of him.
“You’re going to be expelled from the order if you keep this up Shay!” He pleaded with him.
“Shut your gob Liam!” Shay turned away from him and went to the secluded spot that you and him found. He could hear the fire going. “Oh dove…”
“Shay you’re scaring me.” You opened your arms to him and he went into them, telling you everything that happened in Lisbon.
“It was all my fault…all those lives lost because we are messing with objects we don’t understand.” He sniffled.
“Oh Shay…you didn’t know.” You tried to comfort him by stroking his hair. “You’re not a monster.”
“I need to get the notebook back…it needs to be destroyed.” He looked at you.
“I-I’ll help you!” You would do anything to be by his side.
“No! They’ll kill you for aiding me or worse.” He sat up. “I have to do this alone. You know nothing. Do you understand?”
You started crying. “But I can’t lose you Shay! My heart can’t take it.”
He wiped your tears and gave you a darling kiss, the final kiss you two would share. “Fate will bring us together I promise.”
You kissed him back and quickly put the bracelet on his wrist. “Wherever you go, I’ll always be there.”
“Oh Dove.” He looked at the bracelet, it was so simple yet it made his heart heavy. “I’ll take you back to your quarters, whatever happens don’t come out.”
“Ok.” You lied but he took you back after extinguishing the fire and he kissed you goodnight.
Chapter 2: Together Again
Summary:
You and Shay finally reunite after being apart.

Chapter Text
Shay broke into Achilles’ office and stole the manuscript from his desk, only to be caught during the act. Mortars were raining down and other assassins were trying to stop him from escaping with the manuscript in hand.
“You won’t derail our plans Shay!” Hope called out to him.
You were already out trying to find Shay, maybe to run away together. When you came to the clearing that was the cliffside, your teachers and Liam were watching him.
“Don’t do this Shay!” You didn’t want this, this was the last thing you wanted.
“Listen to her Shay.” Liam pleaded while he had his pistol trained on him.
“I won’t let Achilles snuff out anymore lives, one more hardly matters.” He was about to jump but he took a bullet to the shoulder which made him go over the edge.
“SHAY!” You screamed, running to the edge only to be held back by Liam.
“No lass don’t!” He held you tightly as you cried, he knew the relationship you and Shay had. You pounded the cold ground, crying for Shay.
After all this you were interrogated by Achilles and Hope much to the dismay of Liam. You were asked if you knew anything of his treachery.
You shook your head. “He was just distraught of what happened in Lisbon…” You sniffled and held the pearl necklace in your fingers. “I knew nothing what he was going to do.”
Hope saw you were telling the truth. “It’s alright girl.” She looked at Achilles to dismiss the two of you.
“Alright, take her back to the quarters.” Achilles sighed, watching Hope take you out of the room.
“You loved him didn’t you.” Hope held your arm.
“I did…in time I wanted to be his wife.” You let out a shaken sigh.
“I’m sorry.” Hope gave you a meaningful hug but you were numb to it. The love of your life was gone and you were left with the anger that the people who you saw as family were the ones responsible.
————————
By some miracle Shay did survive the fall and he was entrusted to a lovely couple to see he was rehabilitated and healed.
Shay grew stronger, wanting to make amends for what he’s done so he started working with the Templars who gave him another opportunity to make things right.
He climbed the ranks and he was well respected in the community as he was protecting people from the gangs ran by the Assassins.
It was a chilly day as he was spending time at his manor. Things were quiet for now until a scout came with an urgent report.
“Master Cormac! Sir I have my report!” The lad was out of breath from running.
“Breathe boy then speak.” Shay didn’t want him to kill over.
The lad took a deep breath and collected himself. “Sir we’ve spotted an assassin woman in one of the neighborhoods, we tried to apprehend her but she was too fast. Fortunately she dropped this!” He held up the necklace that brought it all back for Shay. The necklace was well worn and the clasped was loose.
“I’ll take that.” He took the necklace off his hands and put it in his pocket for safekeeping.
“Should I inform Master Kenway sir?” He looked at his superior.
“No, I’ll take care of it and I’ll send word.” Shay didn’t want Haytham to kill you but he needed you back by his side for protection.
“I’ll find her but make yourself scarce and tend to the wounded.” Shay ordered before heading out.
“Yes sir!”
—————————
You managed to find an Inn to give you shelter, you were angry that your necklace fell off during the scuffle with those Templar scouts. The last thing you had of Shay was gone.
You were merely sent on this mission to trace the killer who has been offing your colleagues these past few months. You didn’t want to end up dead by the hands of the assassin hunter but it wouldn’t hurt. You’d be free from your physical body and with your Shay in paradise.
Your stomach growled at you for anything to eat. Simple soup and bread from downstairs would do you good then it would be time for some reconnaissance.
You asked the bar maid some questions during dinner about the neighborhood to get any information that was useful. After having your fill, you paid and went out. Damn it was cold but you needed to get your bearings.
A tall bell tower was over yonder and it will give you a good lay of the land. You climbed your up the brick wall, remembering how Shay would say he loved the view when you’d climb before him. Silly man.
You balanced on the small platform, looking around the horizon. Everything was beautiful from high up but you needed come down. You assumed the position and leapt off like an eagle, gracefully falling onto a hay cart below.
Shay had been tailing you for a while now, that was your weakness when he was training with you. When you were about to step out to the street, two big hands grabbed you, one covering your mouth and the other holding your wrists together.
“No screaming now.” He did his best to keep you still but you were scared.
You struggled against the man who had you subdued, looking up at his trained eyes with fear in yours.
“I’m going to let you go now but don’t run.” When you nodded he released you.
“Templar dog…” You wiped your lips from the taste of his gloved hand.
“No name calling lass, especially when I have something of yours.” He held up your necklace.
“H-How did you?” You were bewildered and you reached to get it back but he pulled away from reach.
“An associate of mine brought it to me and I was tasked to find you. Better me than the Grandmaster.” He chuckled.
“Give it back!” You sounded like a child but you didn’t care.
“Why? What’s so significant about it.” Shay wanted to hear you say it before he’d reveal himself.
“What does it matter to you…it’s the only thing I have left of the only man I’ll ever love.” You frowned. “And if I have to pull it off your corpse so be it.”
“No need for that now Dove.” He used your nickname to get you to stand down.
“How the hell do know that pet name?!” You felt sick that a Templar would know such an intimate thing.
“Because it’s the name I used for the woman I’ll ever love.” He lowed his mask and stepped into the moonlight.
You felt hot tears streaming down your face. “T-This is a cruel trick…”
“No it’s not Dove…it’s really me.” He stepped closer and showed you the bracelet he still had on him.
“Shay?” You whimpered and tried to control your emotions but everything bubbled over, feeling your knees weak.
He caught you before you fell and carried bridal style. “Let me take you home and we’ll talk.”
You held onto him, letting the tears flow after so long being without him.
Chapter 3: I Have You in My Arms
Summary:
Finally you and Shay have the long talk after being separated.
A/N: reunion sexy times in the next chapter.
Chapter Text
The walk back to the manor was somewhat quiet aside from your sniffling. Shay had no problem carrying you like a princess. It gave him much joy to have you back in his arms again but he needed to explain himself first and to give you a choice.
“I think I can walk from here.” You saw the front entrance to the courtyard brimming with hedges and flowers.
“You sure?” Shay put you down, steadying you to not fall.
“I’ll be fine.” You sighed. “I guess we have a lot of things to talk about.”
“We do…I’ll have the maid bring us tea.” He walked you into the manor with a hand on your back. You heard him call for Mary to brew some hot tea and you disarmed yourself while Shay stoked the fire place.
You had no reason to be armed to the teeth around Shay. If he wanted you dead, he would’ve done it by now. “I have a few questions, Shay.”
“I’ll do my best to answer them.” He looked at you and gestured you to the couch.
“How did you survive…I saw you fall.” You looked at him.
“I was rescued by a colonel who saw potential in me and he placed me in the care of a couple who lost their son. They nursed me back to health and for them I’m grateful.” He wanted to hold your hand but kept himself from jumping the gun.
“Why didn’t come for me?” Your eyes became glossy. “Every night for a year I cried for you in secret, I prayed that you somehow survived and you would come for me.”
“Dove I couldn’t…I couldn’t bring myself to do that and have you meet the end of my blade.” He shook his head. “Did the order hurt you after I fell?”
“No…Achilles interrogated me with Hope as a witness and I said I knew nothing. Liam kept the heat off of me because he knew my feelings for you.” You wiped your face.
“Did Liam take care of you in my absence?” He wondered if the golden boy tried to make a move on you.
“I won’t lie to you Shay…he tried to make a spot for himself in my heart, he warmed my bed the once after we both got drunk but I cried out your name. He distanced himself from me after that but we remained friends.” You sighed. “He was never you Shay…he couldn’t replace you.”
He scooted closer to you and held your hand. “But I’m here now…I have plans for us. I’ve amassed wealth to keep us fed and warm. We’ll have our children in a safer world.”
“How do I know you’ll keep me safe…Look at me! If one of your associates were to walk through the door, how will you keep me safe from them.” You were scared because the betrayal was still bitter on your tongue.
“They know of you already…I told them all about my past and the day you were to find me, I’d bring you into my arms.” He wasn’t lying. He told Gist what a fiery one you were. You were his Dove and he’d burn the world for you. Gist may or may not have fallen in love with you from the tales told.
“And the Assassins?” You wrapped his arms around you to hold you tightly, to make sure this was all real.
“Our plan is already in motion to stop them. If you have any information to tell me, do so now.” He kissed your head, continuing to hold you.
“We might be here all night.” You chuckled a bit.
“I have all the time in the world now.” Shay saw Mary bringing the tray of tea and she dismissed her for the night.
“Where do I begin?” You let him go as he fixed your cup of tea.
You and Shay talked until the fire place became nothing but embers. You told him everything you knew and what you’ve heard. You ended up falling asleep on him, not being able to keep your eyes open.
He let you sleep on him, feeling guilty that he left you in such an emotional state with his death. He had to make it up to you somehow.
When he was getting tired, he picked you up and carried you to the bed. He’ll christen the bed with you soon but not now. He just wanted to sleep with you beside him and wake up to your sweet face.

A/N: a comment roused me to dust off this fic, I had this chapter sitting in the drafts so I had to add and rework it.
Chapter Text
Shay was awake, watching your chest rise and fall as you slept. You were an angel from heaven with the way the sun glowed on you. Now he had to take what was his, make you feel what Liam lacked in his absence.
He was prideful in that aspect. He kissed your lips gently to let you know he was still there. You stirred a little bit but didn’t wake up fully. He got under the sheets, parting your legs so that he may get to the prize he was really after.
You woke up from your dreamlike state as Shay’s tongue was exploring you. “S-Shay?”
“Shh…just enjoy Dove.” He made you sing for him, loudly enough that the maid Mary was sent scurrying away from the door. He was quite the giver, bringing you to orgasm at least three times using his tongue alone.
“Shay please!” You crying as everything felt so sensitive but you needed more of it. “Please!” You were gripping at the sheets as your fourth orgasm bloomed on his tongue.
He lapped up your essence before he came back up for air. “What do you need from me?”
“Your cock…please.” You whimpered as he cupped your face, giving you a bold kiss.
“I’ll give you what you need.” He kissed you again and took off his night pants, revealing his impressive form. “I might just give you the first of our many children.”
“We’re not married!” You blushed as he parted your legs further to make room for him.
“We can change that.” He chuckled. “Mrs. Cormac.” He teased you with the tip, coating himself with your own slickness. “This may hurt a little.”
“I’m accustomed to pain.” You felt him pushing himself inside you, the stretch was nothing compared to Liam but Shay’s hand was there to guide you through it. “Mmm!”
“Focus on me Dove.” He felt how snug were you as he sank lower into you, he only waited until you were ready for him to move.
It didn’t take long for that happen, he held you close to his body as he made up for a whole year of his absence. The room was filled with your quick breaths and your skin colliding.
You held onto him for dear life as he made love to you. By the end of it, he finished inside you, ensuring that you’d carry on a piece of him inside you.
You were panting and giving him dazed kisses. “I love you so much.”
“I love you more so.” He stayed inside until he became soft. “I’ll have to get you new clothes Dove, can’t have you walking around in your assassin garbs.”
“You’ll make me wear a dress?” You felt him pull out of you, making you shudder.
“Yes I will.” He chuckled. “I have the means to spoil you the way you deserve to be.”
Shay gave you a warm bath to start the day as it was a chilly day. He never stopped kissing you and showing you his devotion. When you were finally dressed properly, he too dressed in his uniform, armed to the teeth.
You decided to keep your hidden blades on you. Yes Shay could protect you but you wanted a fighting chance just in case it came down to it.
“Where are you taking me?” You looked up at him as he tied a warm hood around you.
“You’ll be meeting my associates, more specifically the Grandmaster.” Shay saw you stiffen. “He knows your relationship to me. He won’t harm you I promise.”
“As you wish.” You took his arm. “I need my necklace fixed, my neck feels naked without it.”
“We’ll drop it off at the jewelers on our way.” He kissed your hand.
The community around where Shay’s home was thriving, everyone knew him and had a smile for him. He decided to take you to the people that nursed him back to health. “Mr. And Mrs. Finnegan?”
Cassidy came quickly to the door. “Shay! Oh what a lovely surprise! Please come in!” She let you two pass inside.
“I’d like you to meet the woman who heard me mumbling about while I was healing.” He smiled happily.
“Is this her?” She got a good look at you. “My you’re a beautiful angel my dear.”
“Thank you, ma’am.” You blushed.
“He was all he could talk about when he was in and out of sleep. But it warms my heart to see you here with him.” She kissed your forehead. “Would you like some tea or cookies?”
“Oh no we were just dropping by!” Shay knew how much of a gracious host she was. “Where’s Barry?”
“Oh he’s off at the market but I’ll tell him you dropped by with your lady.” She smiled. “Please come back soon.”
“We will, it was a pleasure to finally meet you Mrs. Finnegan.” You smiled.
“Oh please call me Cassie.” She urged you.
“Of course.” You left with Shay, continuing your walk. “What a lovely woman.”
“Aye. She’d make a good grandmother if you think about it.” He teased.
“That would be nice.” You held onto his arm again.
The necklace was dropped off at the jewelers as promised for repairs. You didn’t want to lose it again. As you inched closer to the home of Haytham Kenway, you were nervous. This was enemy territory and you were willingly walking into their den.
When the door open, Shay walked in with you confidently. “Master Kenway?”
“Ah Shay! I was beginning to worry that you had met your end to this rumored assassin woman that’s been seen stalking around the shadows.” Haytham looked at him then at you.
“Sir, this is the woman I fought for. The one who was willing to go over the cliffs for me.” Shay presented you to him.
Haytham took a step closer, seeing your wrist flex. “I know what you are my dear. Trust that you have no enemies as long as you remain calm.”
“All my life I’ve been told that your organization has been on the crusade to destroy free will.” You tried to stay brave.
“Yet your creed has caused you nothing but pain, you went through a hellish year not knowing your man survived the fall.” He narrowed his eyes at you.
“I don’t have any more loyalty to them…only to Shay. The Creed I was raised under is not the one recognize anymore.” You relaxed when Shay’s hand found yours. “It’s not the one my father died protecting.”
“Then you and I have something in common.” Haytham had some tea be brought over. “Sit, we have much to discuss.”
