Chapter Text

1

Oscar Piastri retires at the age of 39, with six World Championships to his name. He has achieved his dreams, he became part of history, one of the greatest known in the pinnacle of Motorsports. He’s compared to the likes of Hamilton and Verstappen, even Schumacher’s name falls often around him— he’s a generational talent, still the only one with three Rookie awards and many other records he set. 

He achieved his childhood dreams a long time ago, and continued to fulfill his new ones. He survived his highest highs and lowest lows, nasty crashes and the media frenzy. He lived happily and gladly and then—

Then he wakes up to Alpine announcing his promotion. Way back, in 2022, right before his rookie season. At first he thinks it’s a dream, dream-Oscar replies to the announcement with the infamous tweet and then goes back to bed. 

But when he wakes up again, he’s still in the same bed he slept in 2022, years ago. It’s not his familiar big one in his own home, the bed sheets feel oddly stifling and—

Oscar slowly starts to realize that this is not a dream. It feels too real, his ragged breath, his pounding heart, the cold floor below his naked feet. 

“Shit”, is the only thing he can say to this disaster. Because it is one. Him being back here, the young, inexperienced Alpine reserve driver. But he actually isn’t anymore. He is a World Champion, Recordholder, one of the best Formula One has ever seen. He won against the likes of Verstappen and Leclerc (Alonso and Hamilton past their prime don’t really count), defeating the new talents with ease, defending his title several times— he’s almost 40 but now he’s 20 again. 

It’s absurd. Just the mere thought of traveling back in time seems straight out of a badly written novel. It’s absurd but it still happened to him. It’s so absurd that Oscar has your typical Hollywood-mental breakdown, first gackling like a madman until his shoulders shake and silent tears wet his entire face.

For the next few days he’s a mess. His family and friends don’t mention anything, thinking he’s so out of it because of the Alpine disaster. Mark on the other hand tries and succeeds with having a heart to heart conversation with him. Oscar tells him the truth, well, part of it. He tells his manager and mentor about his fears of never being accepted by a team because of this mess, of his future being ruined because Alpine fucked up— he tells Mark everything he didn’t tell him last time and he’s glad he did. 

And then?

Then Oscar does the same thing as last time. He waits out, for McLaren and their contract, for this part to repeat itself again. He waits and prepares, training harder than last time and organizing his thoughts. 

He decides to risk it and write down everything he knows, nothing more than a bunch of dates paired with nicknames, initials and numbers. Gibberish to others, but to him the only thing he has from the past. His memories, his dreams, his achievements.

It’s weird, being back in his twenty year old body, feeling much more energized than what he’s used to. He can fall asleep and then get out of bed much easier than when he was almost 40. And what’s even weirder, is this whole first and second life, his body so young but the mind double in age. 

It gives him a headache, thinking too much and too long about it, so he doesn’t and tackles other problems. Such as his relationship with Lily. They’ve been together for a long time and it took him years to realize that they stayed together simply out of comfort. 

They were so in tune with each other, they both didn’t like new things so they didn’t split until he was in his mid 20s. And when they finally did, it took him ages to go out with other women, his thoughts always circling back to Lily. 

Not because he was still in love with her, he loved her almost as much as he loved his family— it just seemed unfair to both of them. 

It makes him feel even weirder, his mind literally double the age than Lily, being much more mature than her… he won’t lie, he feels disgusted with himself. And then he spirals, the hate on himself, for feeling like this, not helping with him trying to fit in. He knows, he knows he behaves differently, more mature but also more relaxed and confident in his own skin. 

So he decides to rip off the bandaid and ends his relationship with Lily. It breaks his heart, he still loves her but he knows— with him like this, it will never work out. He is that asshole and asks her to stay friends, tells her it’s him and not her and is once again reminded that this whole thing can’t be anything but a personal vendetta against him.

Tense months follow, until McLaren finally announces him as their second driver, officially and not just teasing something , tense weeks follow, where he meets the team once again, where he gets to know Lando again. 

He doesn’t want to know how he seems to an outsider, indifferent but mature, a calm person that isn’t shocked by anything. He doesn’t want to know what Lando thinks about him, again, doesn’t want to hear that he’d rather have someone else as teammate. 

Oscar knows, he’s not your usual funny guy. He has never been. And with almost 20 years added to his mental growth— he can hear Mark’s teasing comments about warming or cheering up. Just because he’s more confident, more sure with himself, doesn’t mean that others would understand.

Instead he holds his head down, does his sim training, attends the debriefs and the marketing meetings. He still gets close to Lando, now that he knows how he ticks, but like last time, it takes some time until he finally warms up to him.

Oscar is not a loud person, never has been. Instead he does his thing in silence but with precision, always giving his best. And despite knowing that he has the skills of a lifetime, he doesn’t actually realize how it bleeds in his daily life. His trainer only raises his eyebrows, when he bulks up much earlier, right before the season instead of during it. Lando side eyes him when the results of his sim racing are shown and Zak— well his team boss is euphoric and thinks he signed the next Verstappen.

He proves once again his worth, that McLaren wanted him as their driver.

When Lando hears about the dramatic signing of his new teammate, well… he’s a bit surprised when he finally meets Oscar. The younger man is a calm person, his humor heavily sarcastic but only when he shows it. Calm but big, Lando probably must’ve looked like an idiot when he blinked rapidly when meeting Oscar Piastri the first time. 

In the pictures he looked up, the Australian looks much leaner, but now he seems to have doubled in size, his shoulders wide, paired with a strong neck and even stronger arms. The only thing that hasn’t changed was his floppy hair and the shy smile. 

But he’s proved wrong— nothing about Oscar is shy. He’s a freaking beast in the sim, during training, heck even when he gets media training! Being suddenly thrown together with a much calmer but very skilled teammate, it leaves Lando struggling, grasping for some stability. 

He has to admit, he has been a bit snappy towards him in the beginning, but Oscar hasn’t changed his behavior towards him. If anything, it seemed to amuse him, as if he, the elder and much more experienced driver, was the child here. Lando still doesn’t know if it bugs him or not.

Zak has always known that Oscar Piastri will be a superstar. An exceptional driver, calm personality, nothing problematic— anything a team owner could wish for. He only needed a chance to prove himself. In his eyes the young man did that the moment he debunked Alpine’s claims. He took a risk and now he gets the rewards for it. 

So, Zak will not lie and proudly say that he has the best driver setup for the season. An incredible rookie and a seasoned driver, already familiar with the current grid and tracks. Their chemistry is even better than with the former duo’s, Oscar seems to calm Lando and that’s exactly what he needed. 

But then he sees the results for pre-season testing, the numbers Oscar delivers in the sim— placing most times above Lando and Zak has to reevaluate his plans. Maybe it’s time for Lando to take a step back and let others shine…

He will have to see, a few races within the season, how this whole thing will develop. After all, McLaren always had fantastic rookie seasons and he’s sure with Oscar it won’t be any different.

Logan has always found solace in Oscar. Both of them textbook introverts, preferring a quiet night instead of going to the club and mingling between themselves instead of fluttering between unknown people like butterflies. 

But not only because of that, Logan likes Oscar for simply being Oscar. A killer humor, just enough ambition to be a racer but relaxed enough to not stifle any friendships. If he’s honest, Oscar sometimes even seems lazy, with how much he naps and tries to cheat his diet with chocolate cake. 

Yet something has changed, and Logan is very sure he can blame the assholes at Alpine for that. Just because Oscar is a calm guy, kinda shy, doesn’t mean he isn’t confident. Whatever they did to him, and Logan knows Oscar hasn’t told him everything, it has shaken his best friend to the core. 

He has changed, not just physically— which has also been a shock to Logan, but especially mentally. There are moments where he feels as if he doesn’t know Oscar at all. But then he cracks a joke and they’re doubling over, clenching their stomachs while their shoulders shake with laughter and everything seems the same. 

Maybe he’s just paranoid, anyone would be with the chaos that happened around Oscar Piastri in mere months.

Mark knows that he has it easy with Oscar. Not the scandal revolving around him, but the kid himself. Easy to manage, a dream for every manager and he’s glad that Oscar trusts him well enough to tell him about his worries. 

He has it easy with Oscar because Oscar wants to win. And despite not thinking about racing all day, he just has enough ambition and drive to steadily improve. Yet after the Alpine drama, Oscar changed. 

He doesn’t know exactly what and why, but he can suspect it. Maybe he’s realized how fast you can drop, how fast teams leave you behind, if you don’t perform or show your backbone. He just knows, Oscar matured extremely the past few months— even if he’s already been very mature. Now it seems that nothing can truly bother him, while he delivers mind boggling results. 

(He can already see the comparison to Kimi Räikkönen, calm, not giving a fuck but most important, talented. But unlike Kimi, Oscar will never be satisfied with just one win, with just one World Championship.)

Nicole, like any other mother, knows her children. So, of course she noticed when Oscar withdrew, right after the drama with Alpine, when he grew silent, only to come out stronger right after that. 

She critically observed him, when he suddenly bulked up, watched how he ate her food with gusto— much more than usual. She mentions it to her friends, other mothers with teenage boys, and they all tell her not to worry. “It’s normal. Boys eat for two, sometimes for three, especially when they start training more… Mark almost eats as much as his father!”, one says with a wide grin, telling her she should be proud that her son is taking care of himself and living healthy. 

But something just tells her to worry, keep an eye on her son, while he tries to navigate through the chaos. In the end he secures himself a contract with McLaren, and she’s so incredibly proud of him. And yet… she worries for him.

Otmar is bitter. Of course he is. They just lost a talent to a top team, all because of some contract flounder. It wouldn’t have happened if Oscar just went along with it, he should have, but he didn’t. Even if he counted on it, fully knowing that all seats are full, or well, have been filled, and trying to tie Piastri to them with the least amount of money. 

He doesn’t regret it, pretends that he’s fine— but he’s bitter. All in Alpine have seen it, Oscar Piastri has the talent to become the next Hamilton or Verstappen. This is why they invested in him so much, but now they didn’t only lose the driver but all the money.

(Bitter, he’s fucking bitter. Seeing Zak all smug with his two drivers next to him, a hand on Oscar’s shoulder, a place where he should be.)

In her whole career, Amanda has never met someone like Oscar Piastri. As McLaren engineer, she comes in touch with several drivers, but Oscar is something else, compared to Carlos, Daniel or even Lando. 

First, he’s incredibly smart. He understands what the engineers and strategists are talking about, and doesn't need them to dumb it down— instead he answers in the same language. Complicated and long winded, someone who understands what he’s talking about. 

And then there are his own results, both physical in the gym but also in the sim. Mind boggling, someone had said, and Amanda can’t help but agree. The young Australian, the rookie for the 2023 season acts as if he’s a veteran driver, almost scarily calm but also talented and skilled. He’s clearly an introvert, but doesn’t mind socializing if it’s with people who share his interests. Which is clearly anything related to racing, like the nerd she suspects he is. 

It's almost jarring, to see Lando and Oscar side by side, both young but they couldn't be more different. And while Oscar hasn't even had the chance to properly race in his car, Amanda knows he will be an incredible driver for McLaren.

When her boss announced in a rather funky Mail that they signed Oscar Piastri and they needed some good PR as soon as possible, Celine thought she was prepared for everything. With Zak’s excitement, she just thought that his usual slogan of “Any PR is good PR” was coming to play, but then she actually met him and for the first time in her life, she actually understood Zak. 

Oscar had this natural charm, a calming presence but also a constant one. It was difficult for her to describe it to someone who never met him— yet everyone agreed with her. Oscar Piastri is a mesmerizing young man and would bring it far in the future. Now if he could only be a bit less awkward in front of the camera…

Chris has always known that Oscar is not an ordinary child. Of course any proud father would say that, but there is truly more about his son— something that makes him special. He has never met another child and later teenager, who was so calm, responsible and just… almost an adult. 

And now he seems so mature, in his element while the engineers are bustling around him, his own team listening to his suggestion and taking notes. He, unlike his teammate, is so sure in himself, a confident leader despite still being a rookie . 

Chris has always known that Oscar is his greatest pride, his son and now he can finally witness his dreams coming to life. A driver for Formula One, ready to become a winner.

the introduction! i was so surprised when i just saw him? if you’ve seen his previous video’s/pr stuff (f2/f3) it’s noticeable he’s uncomfortable with the camera, especially when he’s alone. but he introduced himself so confidently, as if it’s the most natural thing in the world (not to mention the shock to see buff!oscar walking and talking) either mark put him through pr training camp or he just gained confidence

oscar talking about his down time! he’s a very private guy, so i’m surprised he shared so much (but yet nothing at the same time lol) about his life off track. he started learning to cook and proudly showed off photos of the food he didn’t burn LMAO. and surprise surprise, our favorite pastry boy is single :( gonna miss lily (the way he just calmly dropped this bombshell?? like hello sir, what has been your life?)

oscar taking us on tour and introducing a few members of the team! people like engineers back in the factory, pr people, strategists etc. he exchanged a few words with them (i’m surprised he knew them all by name?? and just random facts about them, did he meet the WHOLE mclaren family or what) and while it has only been like a minute in the video, i can’t help but think that the mclaren family accepted him much faster than they did lando

nothing against our favorite papaya british boy, but from all the interactions i’ve seen, oscar is much surer in himself and in his position, which is very surprising for a rookie (and with a history like him) i wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the people he talked with are more loyal towards him than lando in the future… but we shall see

okay now coming to probably the most exciting part of the video (regarding racing)... oscar in the sim. and oh boy. we only saw glimpses of the few tracks he did, plus some blurry numbers from the data BUT!! oscar is insane for the numbers he put out, i’m actually starting to doubt if he’s a rookie because he’s sure as fuck not behaving one. or maybe i’m just overthinking and he had too much sim time after the alpinegate. we will never know…

If Oscar’s honest, he doesn’t care much about the current season. Something many would cancel him for, if he would ever voice the thought out loud, but he truly doesn’t give a fuck. He knows his McLaren is a shit box until the second phase of the season and it’s almost boring to see the start of Max total domination of the 2023 season. 

And even when McLaren finally gets their shit together, they don’t truly have a race winning car until a few years later, slowly picking up after 2028, when Max retired. Not that it had been important to him, after all he had won most of his Championships with Red Bull, taking the seat Max left behind and becoming the new golden boy of the team. 

The move would have ruined his friendship with Lando, had the Brit not made it his personal mission to drag McLaren back to glory. Not that he ever succeeded, not when Red Bull dominated again, after Ferrari had been the top dog for some years. 

So excuse him for saying he didn’t care and put his main focus on other things.

Lando doesn’t know if he should be intimidated by his new teammate or not. Oscar just has this aura— people would call it a bitch resting face but there’s more. He seems so indifferent to everything, the chaos of his signing, the talk of McLaren’s engineers, the media, the fans, anything really! Nothing shocks him, and if Oscar wouldn’t crack a joke here and there, one could think he neither had heart nor humor. 

Oscar just seems so… not cold, Lando still struggles to capture the essence of the Aussie in words. Mature beyond his years, unbothered— but he’s an insane driver. 

He doesn’t know why not more journalists have reported on it, Oscar’s insane history in the Formula series, the results he has shown despite a fucked up car. If they had the data on Oscar’s sim history since he joined McLaren… well, let’s just say he’s glad the media currently seems to favor him more. 

But he can thank their own shit cars for that.

(Lando will forever curse his best friend for that stupid comment, telling him he should reign in his puppy crush on his younger teammate. Only because Max mentioned it— only because of that he’s acting like this, not because it’s actually true.)

When Sofia got approached by Mark Webber, she had known— this was the catapult of her career. As a personal assistant, she would always fade in the background and that’s what she always wanted. But still, she wanted to see the world, have a comfortable pay, enjoy her life, instead of running after old men who think too highly of themselves and have several digits more than her as their monthly salary.

Apparently, Mark heard of her from one of the many contacts he had, she couldn’t bother to remember, not when the offer he gave her was much more interesting. 

To become the PA of Oscar Piastri. By his own wish, surprisingly, despite having Mark as his manager, signed with the sports management Mark is involved with and still being only a few months in his rookie season. 

Of course she accepted the job, even if Oscar would turn out to be an asshole, which she very much doubted, the pay would definitely help her endure. Which, luckily, he isn’t. Oscar’s polite, witty, downright sarcastic once he warmed up to her, and definitely the best boss she ever had. 

She spends her time planning his schedule, booking flights and hotels, picking out restaurants which both fit Oscar’s diet plan and his tastes, and answering too many E-Mails. Seriously, she didn’t know that athletes are that busy, but Oscar seems to be a bit of an outlier. 

Despite being in his rookie year, he already launched his own merchline, and is currently helping his father to expand his company— an attempt to pay back the millions his parents invested in his career. As if that isn’t enough, there are currently multiple talks of sponsorships, for his own career and the karting team he’s trying to build up. 

So yeah, Sofia definitely scored with her current job, even if it sometimes meant to take care of someone who’s so obsessed with cars, that he’s planning to take his first McLaren apart, only to build it back together for fun. Seriously, if Zak would hear about Oscar’s plans, he would die on the spot.

Being an Oscar Piastri fan is exhausting. It always is, when you’re supporting the Rookie, but now? With Formula One bigger than ever and the internet never stopping to be hateful… let’s say it’s a fulltime job defending your choice of driver you’re trying to support. 

But Leo did it gladly, even if it meant that the comments of every TikTok he posts are full with mockery and hate, after every DNF or below P10 finish because the MCL60 is a fucking tractor. 

It doesn’t help that the Lando fans are a delusional bunch, in his opinion they could fuck off and go support Daniel, with how they acted. Maybe he’s a hater, but he’s also sick and tired of people dismissing Oscar’s achievements, when the driver they supported doesn’t even have a win to his name. 

And all because Alpine was stupid enough to chase Oscar away with their foolish behavior. People just needlessly hated the Aussie for leaving the sinking ship, as everyone should, for the way he handled the fall out. 

He has been debating for some time now, if he should disable the comments. But comments meant engagement, which is important for a content creator. His musings got interrupted by a new notification.

“Alright”, Oscar greets the climbing numbers on his monitor. He leans forward to adjust the camera and then settles in his comfortable chair, which had definitely cost too much. But he somehow had to fill the time between Alpine dropping and McLaren signing him, which is why he had definitely too many hours on the sim already. 

“Welcome, everyone! This is my first time streaming, so don’t expect too much, I’m doing the bare minimum here. But I thought I could share a bit, how I prep for the races and everything, so yeah…” He trails off, trying to read the incoming comments, but the chat grows faster and faster, and he barely catches on. 

“I have no idea how the others are doing this”, he mumbles, his eyes catching a few comments, while some start to spam emojis. Of course he has some moderators, but they were only here to keep his viewers in check and not help him read the chat. 

“I’m gonna just pick a few comments? I guess, you guys are really too fast— hold on, let me see if I can make this bigger.” Despite being thrown into this new situation, Oscar still feels calm. It wasn’t that much different from a PR video or Livestream, he just has to keep his language in check and all will be fine. And besides, in a few minutes he would be too busy to read the incoming messages anyways. 

“So! Some of you asked why I’m suddenly streaming… well, Mark said I need to lay off with my physical training or else. The break has been a bit slow anyways, so I just thought I could stream a few sim sessions.” He wiggles in his seat and starts to pick his car and track for the next hour. 

“I’m not much for traveling, when I’m already all over the world because of racing, so I’m just enjoying downtime. But don’t expect regular streams or anything, I’ll probably forget about it once the season picks up again”, he smirks in the camera.

“Alright, we gonna race in a RedBull, I want to break my record. Since Mark won’t let me have fun in the gym, I’ll have some fun in the sim.”

I have a few things to say regarding the whole buff!Oscar story that’s going on right now. We all know that Drivers can’t be very heavy, since they want to be within the weight limit. To see Oscar, who was already quite muscular at the beginning of the season, ‘jack up’ more, is… well not so good news for him and the team, as shit as it sounds. It means he's heavier, something most would want to avoid. In comparison to Lando, he’s very broad and weighs several kilos more. 

Now, why would Oscar gain so much muscle, despite knowing he shouldn’t? Don’t call me crazy, but I think it was his coping mechanism when Alpine gate happened. He said himself that the situation and the following months have been emotionally stressful for him. To cope with that, he probably hit the gym in frustration and in result gained some crazy muscles. 

And now he’s finally in F1, has the first break, so too keep himself busy (it probably became a habit) he goes to the gym…

i want you to imagine something. there is this kid, who is a very successful athlete and having a strong start in his first season. said kid has a former athlete of the same sport as manager, and this for years now. said manager had a successful career and his achievements are notable. now, the kid was involved in some drama and had too much free time since he was basically jobless. so he starts to fill his days with training and obviously gains some muscles. he continues with his training, even now, when he’s finally competing in the sport. but the kid gets so bored during summer break, he decides to start a twitch account and streams 6hrs of him doing a type of training beneficial in his sport, all because his manager told him to slow down with the type of physical training he has been doing. because that kid is a little sarcastic shit and his fans are almost as feral as swifties, they’ve started a movement. said movement is about canceling the kid’s manager, because the kid is sad about getting banned from the gym and they’re sad they won’t see him even buffer than he already is. 

the kid’s name is oscar piastri and he’s a formula one driver. the manager’s name is mark webber and he’s a former formula one driver. 

formula one driver shouldn’t be buff, because extra muscles means extra weight, which slows down the cars. and yet, mark webber is still getting canceled.

So… when Oscar talked with Mark about streaming on Twitch, he didn’t think it would end up like this. Him going viral because of his thighs , and even worse, his fans demanding for Mark’s head because he forbade Oscar to gain more muscle. Technically it wasn’t even true, Oscar himself knew he had to watch his weight, especially off-season. 

He meant it as a joke, and yet his fans, which seem to be much more than in his first life, have declared war. Hilarious shit, if you asked him, but Oscar knew it wasn’t ideal. Mark wasn’t bothered by it, not truly, and while he told him to keep himself in check, Oscar kinda fueled the flames. 

It’s the most fun he has had in years. But then, just a week before the race in Zandvoort, he receives an email and not even hours later, a panicked Sofia pacing in his living room, while Mark tries not to lose his mind.

Oscar can’t believe it but he actually sends in a DNA test. Well, he has to get to a lab and they have to sign a contract Mark’s lawyers whipped up in a few hours and it’s much more than that— but the FIA receives the results of the test and it’s confirmed that Fernando is not his father. 

He doesn’t even want to know who was dropping this utter bullshit to the FIA and which brain dead idiot decided to believe these claims. Instead he sarcastically asks Mark if he ever had this kind of idiocy going on during his career, only for his manager to tell him to shut up before he could even mention Multi-21. 

At least something good came out of this chaos. He actually got close with Fernando. Which is always good, having someone older to look after you, since Mark can’t always be with him and yes, despite Oscar knowing how everything works, other people don’t and they still like to baby him. 

Oscar lets them. It’s kinda hilarious. And his only proper entertainment until the races start again.

The races after the summer break start to blur together. There are points and podiums, Lando still has some more points than him but he’s itching closer and closer, driving spectacularly in a less spectacular car. 

The upgrades feel so much better and Oscar feels as if he’s alive again. He’s not going to lie— the first half of the season has been a bit rough. Now he has the chance to battle, fight tooth and nails for points, his own teammate but also everyone else on the track. And while Max continues to dominate with his RB19, Checo warming the second place, Oscar just has fun. 

He also kinda takes Lando’s podium in Singapore, but he couldn’t care less. It’s the first time, after so long, the first time he’s standing almost on top again. Almost, because of course, there is still Max.

His stellar result in Singapore and then Japan, both times placing above Lando, leaves his teammate cranky. Almost bitter, towards him and the team. Because there has been a shift, no matter how much everyone tries to deny it. Lando had been McLaren’s golden child, still is and probably will be forever, but everyone hungers for a win and Oscar has gotten very very close in Japan. 

Only five seconds behind Red Bull, he had been closer to the soon to be World Champion than most of the grid.

And Oscar would be stupid to not use this favor, the shift, for his own good. He’s still a racer, a driver, someone who hungers for wins and glory, the deep desire in him to become one of the few World Champions. Every proper driver has that, so he just politely smiles at Lando, when he drops backhanded insults about him. He is the older one, after all. Not that anyone would know or care about.

Zak puffs his chest, when yet another sponsor proudly claps him on his back, telling him that Oscar had been a good investment, despite the drama with Alpine. A very very good investment, on the level of Verstappen, and he had already shown his worth several times. 

He spies his driver a few meters next to him, unexpectedly talking with a few representatives from Google, which is… well, considering Mark is nowhere near the Australian, he will see it as something positive. Next to him is his assistant, Sofia, a level-headed woman, typing happily on her tablet. She nods whenever the people around her say something and Oscar seems to agree with it. 

Zak settles on observing the young man, sipping on his champagne, as he shakes hands with the group of men and then continues to the next sponsor. He’s picking them out, he already knows who he wants to speak with and yet he doesn’t single anyone out and ignores them. Instead he talks with everyone, a polite smile on his face while Sofia continues to stick to him, gently leading him away when she spots someone they wish to talk to. 

It seems to be the strategy, a polite way to end the ongoing conversation without offending and Zak has to chuckle. The way Oscar acts— he has perfected the mask many businessmen wish to possess. He spies Mark, talking with his wife, his eyes always on his ‘kid’, but doesn’t make a move to join him. 

The amount of trust the former driver has in his charge is astonishing. Zak knows for a fact, that someone always keeps a tight leash on Lando, be it his friend Max, his trainer or whoever is in charge of keeping him out of creating more chaos. It’s endearing and sells well to the common masses, but here, where the elite rules… many have already turned their nose on the Brit and now readily flock to the Australian. 

He isn’t going to complain, despite knowing that not only Oscar is recruiting the sponsors for his private cause but also that he’s not as loyal as Lando to McLaren. Drivers like Oscar never are. The moment someone offers him a better car, a better opportunity— he’s gone, without feeling any guilt. 

This is why he has to get the most out of him before he leaves. It’s only right to do so.

Kim isn’t as stupid as he pretends sometimes. He knows something is up with his driver, because the Oscar he met and trained back in F2 wasn’t the gym junky he’s now. And he’s also smarter than everyone else, he isn’t blaming Alpine for the change like everyone else does. 

Kim knows Oscar well. He knows that Oscar is a sweet tooth, more than he likes to admit, he knows that Oscar doesn’t like to count calories or follow his diet but still does, because the job requires him to. He also likes his sleep and can be downright mean if someone disturbs him from his sacred naps— too often he was the one to wake him and even once experienced how the fellow Aussie was throwing a fit because of the Jetlag. 

He knows Oscar well. Oscar is definitely an introvert, confident with the people he likes and finds comfort with, but actually shying away and pretending to be someone else when he’s with unknown personalities. It took weeks for him to properly warm up to Kim and to this day he’s sometimes surprised by the sarcastic comments Oscar likes to drop. 

He knows Oscar well, he knows that Oscar is smarter than he lets people know. If he hadn’t gone to become a race driver, he for sure would be a brilliant engineer or even a doctor— he seems to suck up new knowledge like a sponge and never let it go. He finds interest in the most obscure things but is still your average young man, trying to fit in the world. 

Safe to say, Kim is probably one of the few people who know Oscar very well, besides his own family. 

So, when Oscar comes up to him, a month before the race in Qatar and demands a new workout routine, one that’s harsher than his current one, he just raises an eyebrow. He’s ready to tell Oscar off, still not over the scolding Mark gave him for letting Oscar give free reign in the gym and bulking up as a result, but then— then Oscar thrusts in a thirty page document in his hands, filled with data. His own performance, about other driver’s performance in Qatar, heck even the weather sheets from last year of that damned place! 

“They’re all going to underestimate Qatar”, Oscar grumbles through his weighlifts, while Kim flips through the papers. “It’s going to be hell, it’s a hot place and I know the McLaren will be suited for the track, I’ll be suited for it.” He heaves the weights up his hips, then his shoulders and Kim keeps an eye on him, ready to correct his form but it isn’t needed. 

“I will win”, Oscar grits and Kim can’t help but agree. So he signs off his approval and only tells Mark later.

Days seem to pass in an antagonizing slow pace until Qatar is knocking right at his door. He knows, here Max will secure his title and here he will clinch not only his first but also his second win. He will not settle for anything less. And not even a Max Verstappen will take that away from him. 

The paddock around him is buzzing, while he sips one of his many water bottles. Kim and Sofia are walking right next to him, his engineers behind, as they walk down to the garage. A swarm of papaya, followed by a few cameras. More than in his first time as Rookie, since there is more noise around him. 

During training he performs mediocre, getting familiar with the track in just a few laps but pretending to struggle much more. Not too much, since everyone seems to know how much he has grown obsessed with sim-racing— another Verstappen they call him and Oscar snorts every time he sees a headline like that. 

(He’s a proud Piastri, proud Aussie, Mclaren Rookie, Red Bull and Ferrari World Champion, a legend almost as big as Hamilton and definitely bigger than Verstappen. After all, Max retired with five WDC’s… and he had six. This time he will get more.)

Tom glances at the data, steadily sent over by the strategists back in the garage over to him. The car is looking good, and comparing Lando’s performance with Oscar’s up until now, Oscar is definitely looking better. His tyre management is stellar, the immense amount of hours he spent in the sim are definitely paying off. And well…

“Verstappen exactly a second behind you, push now”, Tom orders over the radio, his eyes darting over the screen. Anything to give Oscar more information, because— they’re so close. Only a few laps and then they would secure a win. Oscar’s first win as Rookie and with McLaren. A sprint win, but still a win. 

“Copy that”, is the only answer he gets and the MCL60 zooms past. Followed by the RB19, then there’s a pause, a bigger gap and the next wave of cars pass. 

Oscar actually managed to pick some speed up, pushing the car not quite to the limit but close. It’s enough to add some distance but not a bigger gap. 

Zak is vibrating next to him, and the engineers in the garage are all shaking in their seats. The screen high in front of them follows Oscar’s car, closer and closer to the finishing line. 

And then…

Oscar wins.

There is shouting, screaming— camera’s immediately start to hound his car. He jumps into the arms of his team and the crowd roars when he raises his hands. Behind him, the rest of the grid slowly starts to line up, the Red Bull engineers ready to hound their driver for winning the World Championship but Oscar doesn’t care. 

He basks in the glory of winning, leading the race with the rest of the drivers behind him. A FIA personnel ushers him to get weighted and then to receive his plaquette. It’s bit of a long wait, like last time, because Max won and well—

His mind is already on the race tomorrow. He remembers what happened, having finished his cheat sheet and done his research. Oscar knows where to attack tomorrow, and where to defend, to keep Max behind. Well, not the whole race, that would be incredibly stupid, just right before the finishing line. Snatch the victory in front of his nose away and then just politely smile as the Dutch will try to understand what happened. 

Because in that aspect, they’re similar. They like to analyze, to predict, to theorize. Talk about the what if’s and what could’ve been, of the consequences of hypothetical actions, it makes any race even more interesting. Sadly for Max and everyone else, Oscar has been in this business for so much longer. And he knows the future. One could say he has the RB19 as his mind while everyone else is lagging behind with a FW46. Sucks to be them, he thinks with a grin and congratulates Max to his third Championship.

Despite having prepared for the race, fully knowing how exhausting the race will be, he’s still struggling. It would be inhuman to not to and it’s almost unfair— because he knows what will happen, has known for months now and prepared accordingly, while the others will go into the race blind.

But he can’t warn them, or else they’ll think he’s mental and maybe he is, but no one needs to know. This knowledge, the extra preparation he has done, it’s all an advantage. One that he intends to use. How else is he supposed to win with a weaker car against the Red Bulls?

During the race he does what he didn’t do last time, and that was saying what he thinks. He tells the world how it’s boiling hot, how he worries about the others, while pushing forward, panting against the heat and humidity. 

Oscar tells his engineer that yes, the car is doing well, he less so, but is still sticking at the rear of the car in front of him. His attacks are precise, pouncing right at the weakness of each of the drivers in front of him and so he slowly climbs up, until he’s right behind Max. 

He can hear the worry in Tom’s voice, but also the excitement. There aren’t many laps left and there is only a gap of eight seconds, something manageable. He would know, because he calculated it. Everything is going according to plan. He lies to the McLaren pitwall, tells them that he can’t push more, only continue what he’s doing now. 

Oscar lies because he knows how much radio’s get analyzed and instead slowly closes the gap, second per second, lap per lap. Tom reports him about Red Bull’s strategy calls and how they don’t really worry about him and it’s exactly what he needs. 

It’s right at the start of the second last lap, he does a textbook overtake on Max and disappears later with the DRS. His radio is cracking with Tom’s unbelieving laugh, Zak chimes in and tells him to not lose his head now and—

“T’was the plan all along, now kindly shut up and tell me where Verstappen is.”

And then he wins, again. His first proper race win in Formula One.

Max finds Oscar on the floor of the cool down room, the screen behind him playing the overtakes the rookie had done. Including the one on him, lap 56, slipping past him and zooming away to victory. 

“Fuck me, why is it so hot”, the Aussie murmurs, turning on his stomach and pressing his face against the cool floor. Max just lets himself fall on one of the seats, stretching his legs while ripping his suit open. 

“You did really good”, Max says and the Rookie just groans as an answer, gives him a thumbs up and mutters a thanks. Before he can say more, Lando comes into the room and the second McLaren driver immediately throws himself against his teammate on the ground.

The resulting fist fight has him wheezing, Lando trying to congratulate Oscar again while Oscar tries to shy away from the sweaty driver. 

“C’mon Oscaaaar! You just won, we need to properly hug, it’s unfair—”

“Fuck off, you’re too hot, I can’t take this anymore—” An accidental knee between Lando’s legs has him curling up on the floor, wailing about how his own teammate hates him, while Oscar just groans, sits up and dumps a whole water bottle over his head. Max eyes the puddle of water, but decides to ignore it.

“I think I’m about to throw up”, is the last thing the race winner says, before he clambers on his feet, stumbles out of the cool down room and actually retches right in front of the shoes of the poor FIA official who got sent to get them for the podium celebration. And as if that’s not enough, Oscar starts to sway on his feet, Lando trying to scramble up and Max following, ready to catch him before he actually faints. 

He doesn’t, but his knees buckle and it sends everyone into a frenzy. 

(The podium celebration starts with a delay of a whole hour, the FIA not wanting anyone to actually faint while they receive their trophies. And well, Max is pretty sure that Mark Webber threatened to sue if they didn’t check on every driver before proceeding with the celebrations, backed up by McLaren and immediately joined by all teams. 

Qatar has been nothing more than a fever dream, how else can he explain that a McLaren not only won once but twice?)

The result of the race in Qatar, him being race winner and most drivers taking days to recover from it, makes big waves. The FIA, the bunch of assholes they are, couldn’t care less, since there hasn’t been any big accident, but the fans and even some sponsors are in outrage. 

Oscar just grimaces every time someone mentions him throwing up after the race and almost fainting. The last time he hadn’t had such an extreme reaction to the heat, and he prepared even better for the second time. He’s unsure why it takes him longer to recover. In the end, he’s just glad no one caught his accident on camera, only on microphone. But even that is bad…

He tries to put the race behind him, while yes, he won on the weekend twice, everything around it leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.

But of course, McLaren wishes to celebrate his wins with big fanfare— endless promotion shots are being filmed, with him in the center of the attention. He understands it, of course, since it’s a big step for the whole team, yet he wishes to have at least one day for himself. Instead Zak drags him from one interview to another, so many articles are being put out, it’s just exhausting.

Sofia has been keeping an eye on Oscar. Ever since he won the races in Qatar, his calendar went from full to absolutely crammed. She’s hovering behind him, as he keeps giving interviews and gets dragged from one photoshoot to another, reminding him and everyone else when he needs to get ready for his next appointment. 

And while he voices his exhaustion, they can’t do much. McLaren demands him in the sim, and also continues to milk his success, while she gets hourly inquiries for yet another interview. Instead, Sofia plans a bit more time for his lunch and dinner, but even that isn’t enough. It takes almost a whole week until Oscar is fully recovered, and she can’t help but send a stinky eye to his boss every time she sees him. 

Oscar of course notices and tells her to drop it, but she can’t. Not when she’s feeling oddly protective of him. And they all agree, the people around Oscar and even himself, that Zak is one slimy bastard.

Days pass quickly and the race in Austin is knocking at their doors. Mark knows that the McLaren isn’t really suited for this track like Qatar, but everyone is still expecting a good result. Especially from Oscar. 

The moment the team, because there are more people surrounding Oscar now, touches down in the US, the media hounds them. The fact that Oscar won the previous weekend, paired together with how insane the US always is about the races— well, they don’t get much privacy. It’s also because of this, they get dragged into yet another mess. 

Well, not them, and certainly not him, since the newest rumors surround only Oscar, but they’re with him so it’s also their mess.

Austin ends with Oscar on P2 once again, pushing down Lando two places because of that. He couldn’t care less, not when he had clashed with Carlos again and almost lost the hard fought points. 

The cool-down room as result is tense, and Oscar readily ignores the Spaniard in favor of listening to Max's yapping. The World Champion seems eager to talk with him about the track, while also turning his back towards Carlos. 

“We will go out to celebrate, yes?”, asks Max and Oscar grimaces. Max snorts and laughs, and he can’t help but shake his head. 

“I will take a nap first, and then we can talk about clubbing.”

“I will be very disappointed if you don’t show up, Oscar.” Oscar just waves him off, sipping on his water while watching the highlights on the big screen. He has done his job, partying isn’t required as a racer, so he will probably not do it. Not when sleep sounds so much better.

“So”, starts Sofia. Oscar just hums, cuts his chicken and starts eating, while his assistant tries to stare him down. He isn’t bothered though and instead focuses on his meal. 

“So”, she says again. “Tell me why I have over a hundred interview inquiries in my mailbox, asking for a statement regarding your relationship with Sabrina Carpenter.” Oscar has to hide his grin, but by the glare she’s sending him, he clearly failed. 

“Sabrina and I’ve decided to lean into the rumors.”

“Why”, she just asks, deeply tired. 

“Why not?”

“Oscar.” He looks up from his plate, actually taken aback at the serious face Sofia has put on. 

“I know you decided to go for an easy going, approachable PR motive, but this is on another level.” 

“I’m well aware”, Oscar starts and puts his utensils down. He wipes his mouth with a napkin, ready to tell Sofia his game plan. 

“Formula One has always been the most famous motorsport out of all, and in the past few years, it has grown exponentially. All thanks to Social Media, but also that blasted Netflix show. And it will only grow bigger.” He takes a deep breath, and then continues. 

“It will”, he stresses. “And we will have much more casual fans than those diehard fans… and if I’m associated with someone less favorable, it’s more likely to get canceled. Public opinion matters, it will matter even more. Sponsorships will depend on it, which could lead to a turning point in my career.” Sofia nods in understanding, she has been brooding over his public image ever since she has been employed by him. Often she would have meetings with the PR people from McLaren, to talk strategies. 

“I have no idea where the rumor with Sabrina came from, but it exploded all over the internet. Probably because some source said that she and Taylor would come to the Austin race… Sabrina messaged me that weekend and we agreed to lean into those rumors.” 

“Well, and then we actually decided to ‘fake date’, since we could both use the publicity of having a well established partner. We’re both too busy to actually have a proper relationship, so it’s a win-win for both of us.” 

“Alright”, she says after a while. “Since Sabrina is well liked, and you as well, I don’t think it will blow up in our faces. But I still want a plan, you hear me? And please, for the love of God, tell me stuff like this a bit earlier.”

“Okay”, he easily agrees.

A few Instagram stories later, some rumors here and there, even a few paparazzi pictures and the Internet is absolutely convinced that Oscar Piastri and Sabrina Carpenter are dating. There are dozens of ‘sources’, spreading the story that they’ve met over the summer and have been texting each other for a while, up until the weekend in Qatar. On that fateful Sunday, Oscar finally had the courage to ask Sabrina out and one date later, they were officially in a relationship. 

Due to their busy careers, with Oscar having the most successful Rookie season since the sport has been established and Sabrina touring with the Eras Tour, they’ve decided to keep themselves hidden. And yet, they always try to find some time for each other, with Oscar preferring to leave team celebrations early, to spend some time with Sabrina. 

Or at least, that’s what everyone is saying. 

In truth, they’re just texting each other, smithing plans on how to sell their story even better. Sabrina even went so far and sold a few paparazzi pictures of them leaving the same hotel in Austin, which have been a fan favorite. Up until now, they haven’t been sighted together, only ‘seen’ entering and leaving the same places around the same time, still pretending to keep their ‘relationship’ hidden.

“I didn’t know you had a girlfriend, Oscar”, Mark suddenly says, as they go over the contract McLaren has sent them over for the next season. 

“Well, it’s still new so…” Mark eyes the younger Australian, sees the smile he’s trying to hide and grins. 

“I’m glad”, he adds. “After Lily, I thought you would be single for years, but apparently not.” Oscar snorts, making Mark grin even wider. 

“So, when will I meet this Sabrina?” 

“Dunno yet, she’s busy with her concerts, but maybe in Las Vegas? We didn’t plan anything specific yet.” Mark hums, highlights a few lines in the draft of the contract, and then turns to the next page. He first had his suspicions, but with how often Oscar had been on his phone, often smiling, almost giggly— it seems that the thing between them had been going on for a while now. 

Oscar doesn’t have many close friends, Logan being definitely his best friend, he often spends his evenings alone. When Mark first met Oscar, he tried to get him to socialize with people his age, but had often failed. But apparently his mendling wasn’t needed, when Oscar was able to score himself a pretty girlfriend, without anyone noticing.

I’m glad you asked, anon! Sally and I have the theory going on that one of them messaged the other on Insta first, and we heavily suspect Sabrina for that. Oscar doesn’t seem the type to just hit on someone on any Socials, while Sabrina is definitely less shy. 

But keep in mind that this is just a theory, we actually have no idea how they met. Maybe they ran into each other in an event? We actually don’t think that, because we already compared all events they’ve attended since the beginning of the year and they were never at the same place (at least in public).

Oscar manages to score another podium finish, a P2, in Brazil. And only because McLaren gave him the better strategy this time, since he had a better qualifying than Lando. He gets invited by Max for celebrations again, but he declines. 

McLaren wants to grab dinner and Oscar is, if he’s honest, beyond tired. The season is long and he’s already yearning for the winter break. Of course he will miss the racing, but not everything else around it. The people, the interviews, the PR he has to shoot. 

It’s just exhausting.

Instead he officially invites Sabrina to the Las Vegas race, lets Zak know they will have a very popular guest on his side of the garage and then proceeds to ignore the rest of the world for a few days. Or at least, he attempts to, because he can’t have a single moment of peace.

McLaren has them shoot several videos for their YouTube channel, he’s also dragged by Sofia to photoshoots and interviews for GQ Australia and US. After that, he has to do several hours of sim racing for the team, only to be reminded of his budding streaming career. 

He has been nominated for three streaming awards; best breakthrough streamer, best international streamer and streamer of the year. Sofia had just forwarded the Mail to him with a blank face, and told him that he should take this seriously. e

His nominations, and the rest of the categories would be announced at the end of December, and everyone would be able to put their votes in. Oscar just grimaces at the thought, he has to share this with McLaren and he just knows they will milk this opportunity, just like every other, dry. 

So he does, bears over an excited Zak over a phone call and then puts all of this aside. He still has two races to focus on. But he still plans his first ever stream collab.

Oscar and his team, consisting now of Sofia, Mark and Kim, as well the assigned personnel from McLaren, are all a week earlier in Las Vegas. He has set aside two days for meeting up with Logan and a small streaming event, knowing he has to show his face a few more times on Twitch or else he will have people calling his nominations ‘undeserved’ or ‘biased’. 

McLaren has organized a sim rig, for Logan and him, as well as a full streaming set up. And while they set up and prepared the room for his stream, he wolfed down his lunch. 

Logan arrives ten minutes before the stream is announced to start, his screen already showing the typical ‘stream starting soon’ animation, while McLaren personnel flutter around them. They’re checking everything one last time— recording how Oscar will stream with his best friend, and a fellow F1 Driver. 

As he said, McLaren likes to milk situations and opportunities like these completely dry. 

“Hi everyone”, Oscar greets his audience with a wave and a small smile. “How are you guys doing?” 

His chat immediately fills, endless messages flashing across the screen. The number of viewers still keeps climbing, having long passed the ten thousand mark.

“Alright, alright, I’m not going to keep you guys waiting long— I have a special guest, as I already told you. I’m happy to officially introduce you all to my best friend, Logan Sargeant!” With a dramatic wave, he lets Logan’s camera appear on the screen, and the American waves a bit shyly to the camera. 

“Hello, very happy to be here.” 

“Lo is a driver, like me”, Oscar starts. “For those who are not really into F1… he drives for another team tho.” Logan nods at that. 

“Yeah, I’m one of the two Williams Drivers, with the number two on my car.” 

“But today, we’re neither going to drive for McLaren nor Williams, we’re both going to be in the same car and do a few races…”, Oscar continues and starts selecting the car and the race track. Logan follows and they start the race.

After the stream, which Logan thinks has been a bigger hit than Oscar planned, the two of them order their dinner from their hotel service and share the meal in Oscar’s room. They talk about everything and nothing, until his best friend decides to drop a bomb on him.

“I signed for ‘24 with McLaren”, Oscar says.

“Not more?” Logan is surprised. With Oscar’s performance this season, they should’ve signed him for more than one season. 

“Didn’t wanna” Oscar takes a bite from his food, and Logan splutters. “Why not?! They’re a good team!” 

“They are, but not championship winning and won’t be for a long time.” He says that very nonchalantly, as if he’s talking about the goddamn weather. 

“And you know that… why?” Oscar looks at him as if he’s stupid when he asks that, and Logan feels a bit like it too. Oscar refuses to elaborate.

“And to be honest, McLaren has never really been the dream.”

“Thought your dream was just to win”, mumbles Logan, because isn’t it what all drivers want?

"Exactly." A silence falls over them, and he hesitantly picks up his fork again. 

“Where would you wanna go then? Ferrari? Mercedes?” Logan starts to rattle off the strong teams, or well, who should be stronger. “Red Bull?”, he jokingly adds and Oscar stills.

“No!” His eyes widen and Oscar just shrugs his shoulders. 

“Horner offered for next year, but I said no.”

“Uh…”, can Logan only say. 

“And really? Mercedes? Where Lewis practically rules the house and the rest who don’t follow him are George’s people? And don’t get me started on Ferrari… I mean yes, they will improve, no doubt, everyone will, but they want Charles to win and I’d rather not get murdered by the Tifosi just because I decided to be selfish.” Oscar starts to wave around with his knife, Logan can’t help but warily eye it. 

“So you want to be teammates with Max?!”, he asks in the end.

“Wouldn’t be bad, I reckon. Better than Lando I think. And probably more fun as well.” Logan has always known Oscar was a bit insane but this is a new level of insanity. 

“Teammate killer Max?” Oscar just raises an eyebrow. 

“Y’know. Alex and Pierre both failed because they’re rookies. They forgot that Max has been here since he was 17, he practically grew up with Red Bull. It’s the reason I said no to Horner, for now. Gain a bit more experience, get some people on my side and then I’ll join Red Bull and end Max’s streak.” Logan gulps, he can’t believe that Oscar says this so confidently. 

“Max is Christian’s favorite tho”, he tries to remind his friend, but Oscar just waves him off. Again. 

“That’s Seb. And I have him in my pocket because of Mark, they love me— Horner loves me by default. And for breaking Lewis’ Rookie record. And the business started to make waves, you know how Zak likes to gloat and Horner is interested to get my people as sponsors, since I would be more sellable than Max and Checo together.” Right, the business Oscar has mentioned several times now but he still didn’t manage to get any details. His head has long ago started to spin, but Oscar doesn’t seem to care and just eats his lunch.

His best friend is insane. Truly and utterly insane.

Las Vegas ends with him on P4, after ignoring the radio for the boxstop that had him in P10 the previous life. Esteban had just been a second behind him, holding up the other cars in the lower places. Had he overtaken him, well, McLaren wouldn’t be that happy as they’re now. Instead they celebrate him being high in the points and Lando, for not having major injuries. 

Oscar is actually glad he can skip the podium celebrations here, he really doesn’t want to share a car with two other drivers, when he’s just ready to leave this weekend behind. Racing in Las Vegas always feels like being in a circus show. 

Instead he joins the engineers and strategists, everyone really, from his garage, while they watch how Checo has to endure a yapping Max and Charles. Sabrina silently joins his side, and shares a small grin with him. 

It’s actually the second time they see each other, they met a day before, hidden away in his hotelroom. Sabrina’s manager had joined them, talking the dry business with Sofia, while the two of them exchanged their fake dating ideas in person. 

And now, she’s standing next to him, his arm around her shoulders. 

“Your boss was a bit mad when you ignored their orders. Andrea had to calm him down”, she murmurs and Oscar can’t help but grin. He turns his head towards her and leans closer. 

“And yet he will pretend he never was, now that I finished high up in the points.” She giggles, pretending the situation is hilarious, when it’s actually a bit sad. 

“Your boss is an ass.” 

“You don’t say”, he mutters as answer and presses a kiss on her cheek, as if he’s completely blind to the cameras pointed at them.

The season ended with him at 173 points, still P9, but this time only two points behind George, because the Brit managed to score a podium in Abu Dhabi and he didn't. But it’s fine, because Lando slipped down one place, with only 184 points. 

That’s an eleven point difference— with him being a Rookie and Lando already being in the sport for four years. 

The results truly speak for themselves.

He is still to receive the Rookie of the Year award, anything else wouldn’t make much sense. Having broken Lewis’ record by a big margin, as well as winning two races… the FIA would be fools for not handing said award over. 

Oscar just grimaces at the thought of showing up at the Prize Giving Ceremony. It’s always one of the least favorite things he has to do each season. Lando the lucky fella won’t be there, being busy with his own things and Oscar wishes he could also skip the event. But it wouldn’t do well for him to miss his first Ceremony, especially when he had such a stellar result in his first season. 

Instead he lets Sofia confirm his attendance, organize his travel there as well as a hotel. But not just for him— if he has to suffer through this, again, he will drag Sabrina with him. He really doesn’t have any nerves to survive the evening on his own.

Sabrina is giddy. Ever since Oscar told her about the event, which has just been some days ago, she started to plan. Of course they both need matching outfits, her team will look after that, but her focus is on slightly different matters. 

She already knows what she’s wearing for the Met Gala in a few months, of course she does. Her dress is almost done, the Make-Up has already been tested, she is ready for it. 

But Oscar is not. Oscar, who has not a single fashionable bone in his body, opting for team merch and comfortable clothes, such as plain hoodies and printed sweatpants. Nothing wrong with it of course, but the Gala is so much more. Considering it would be his first fashion debut there, the FIA Ceremony doesn’t count, they all wear boring black suits there, she has to prepare.

Because, as much as Oscar has his hectic life under control, he has yet to properly step out of his current bubble. Out of Social Media and the World of Motorsports, where most couldn’t care less in what clothes he shows up, and onto the Red Carpet of Hollywood. 

And as his official fake girlfriend, who is very much a darling of the Elite within the entertainment industry, she will do everything to ensure he has a worthy debut. After all, Hamilton can’t be the only driver who dabbles in fashion. 

This is why she calls up Prada, wanting one of their suits for Oscar. They make good suits, but she wants one in particular… she can already see how good they would look on the Red Carpet.

Stephen has been in the business for almost a whole decade now, and he has had his fair share of clients. Some are a bit more crazy, others a bit less. So when a new client gets assigned to him, he does as his routine demands. He introduces himself in the Mail he sends, asks for information about assets and the salary, and of course offers several time slots for a first phone call. 

He doesn’t bat an eye when he gets sent over a NDA first, which he readily signs after his lawyer approves it. He sends the signed copy back and not even an hour later he receives several documents, all assets listed, signed by an Oscar Piastri. 

Before he even dares to look at the documents, he decides to do his research on this Oscar Piastri, since he doesn’t recognize the last name. 

What he reads does raise his eyebrows a bit. Young man, only twenty three years old, a racer in Formula One, already having won many things and the future looks good for him. A level headed and sensible man, or so the media says, and Stephen can’t help but hope for it to be actually true. 

The first few times he talks with Oscar on the phone, his prayers get answered. His client is sensible, with his responsibilities and money, until—

“So you want to move to Switzerland?” 

“Yeah”, is the only answer he gets and he has to keep a sigh back. 

“And you’re informing me because–”

“Oh yeah, already saw a property in Zurich I really like, I’m currently talking with the estate agent.” 

“I see… and how much… would this property cost?”

“Eight Millions, Swiss franc.” Stephen puts his head in his hands. 

“McLaren will pay me the bonuses at the end of the year, so I can actually move in before the next season. Or well, during, I have no idea if I need to fix some things in the estate…” 

“And how much bonus will you get? Since I assume you can easily afford the estate.” Stephen really hopes the bonuses are massive because he will and can not work with some hundred thousands as leftovers on the bank account, when his client wishes to move to a country that is not exactly a tax haven. 

“So, my base salary is four Millions, with fifty thousand for each point I scored. That brings me a bit more than eight and a half Million, with additional two Millions for every win I brought home. So in total, 16.65 Million.”

“I see—”

“Oh, and that’s without sponsorships and merch income and all of that.” Stephen does what his job demands, and starts taking notes. At least… he has a sensible client. Somewhat. He would still recommend Monaco, but the customer is always right.

Sabrina grins like a fool when Oscar enters the hotel room. Her team is fluttering around her, her Make-Up artist wagging a warning finger at her ‘boyfriend’, when he leans down to greet her. Everyone expects a kiss, on her cheeks or lips, both of which could ruin her Make-Up, instead Oscar just placidly holds his hands up with a sly grin on his face. Sabrina has to hide a snicker at the excited whispers around them.

“Osc!” She greets him and he smiles at her. His hair looks absolutely chaotic, his cheeks are a bit flushed—

“Where have you been?” 

“Had to get my suit”, he mutters softly and takes her hand into his. Then he lifts her hand and pressed a gentle kiss on the back of it, all while gazing at her with his freaking heart-eyes. 

“Oh”, she whispers and turns her face to hide her blush. 

“Hi”, he greets her officially and she greets him back, utterly flustered. He lifts his hand to brush her hair from her face and then straightens back up.

“Thank you, Osc.” 

“Of course, Rina.” 

Their little moment gets interrupted when Sofia enters the hotel room, carrying a sealed suit for Oscar. 

“Chop chop! We have to be ready in an hour and you’re still in your street clothes, Oscar!”

“So”, grins Zak and Tim wants to grimace. He doesn’t, because his boss is a shark. Instead he puts on a placid smile on his face and listens to whatever bullshit Mr Brown has to say. 

“As you all know, we paid Oscar roughly 16 Million this year. His manager, Mark, wants to negotiate his contract anew and he sent over a draft.” 

Tim blinks in surprise. He had known the astronomical sum the Rookie had received at the end of the season, all of McLaren did. Like so many other employees, they had whispered about Oscar’s contract. Someone had slipped up and mentioned a two Million bonus for a race win, which… while valid to be put in a contract, it felt absolutely ridiculous that Mark Webber had negotiated this specific clause. And don’t get him started on the fifty grand per point. He knows that some are glad that the first half of the season had been so astronomically bad or else Oscar would’ve racked up even more points. They would have paid so much more and probably end up in bankruptcy if they didn’t have so many sponsors. 

“I will agree, despite what you guys will recommend.” Tim glances around the room and takes notice of the sour faces.

“Don’t worry, it’s only a one year contract—”

“That’s even worse, what the fuck is he thinking?!”, whispers Sam next to him and he can’t help but agree. Only a one year contract with a talented driver like Oscar? A driver who almost outdid his teammate? Who won two races in a Red Bull dominated season?

“Because Mark told me that Red Bull wants to sign our driver for 2024.”

Fuck. 

“They’re not shying away from paying big big bucks, so we have to keep up, even if it’s for a year. So, fifty grand per point stays the same but the base salary and bonus per win get tripled. And… the car will get adjusted to Oscar’s preferences.” 

Oh, double fuck. 

“If we don’t comply, Oscar will pull out, even if it’s the middle of the season.”

“What the absolute fuck is this kid thinking?” Sam doesn’t whisper anymore, he’s whimpering, close to tears. If McLaren would be so stupid and go against this contract, meaning they would prioritize Lando, because they can read between the lines, thank you very much, Oscar would leave them without remorse. He already proved with Alpine that he could do it and not let his career die.

“And we can’t let that happen. Because Horner wouldn’t hesitate to drop Perez and snatch Oscar up, even if it’s in the middle of the season.” Zak nods gravely at the paper in front of him, only to clap in his hands and suddenly grin excited.

“But we all know that Oscar is World Champion material and our car for 2024 looks quite fast… I believe we will bring back a WDC to Woking, yes?”

The thing is, Tim actually believes him. Oscar is not only World Champion material— if the Aussie doesn’t get the title in the next few seasons, he will seriously think about sabotage or some higher powers intervening. He has seen Oscar drive, in the sim and on track. There is just something to him, razor sharp focus and talent, the lack of mistakes. 

Oscar is a generational talent. And he knows how to use it.

“It’s a very ambitious project”, warns Adrian, as if he hadn’t spent hours brooding over the developments of the hypercar. 

“Especially with the drivers you want to have in the team. Are you even sure that he will agree to it? Max I can understand, he will never say no to a race, but—”

“He will say yes.” Christian crosses his arms and then turns towards his chief engineer. Once again he notices how old he has become, they both did. The two of them have been the spearheads of the recent Red Bull domination, led by their star driver. And now they’re hoping they can expand this domination. 

“And the third driver? You want to poach Mark?” 

“No”, he says after a while and Adrian raises an eyebrow. “I want Seb.” 

The grin that spreads on Adrian’s face is mirrored by his own. Red Bull will win Le Mans 2024, with the best car and the best drivers. A team full of record holders and breakers, the essence of Red Bull.

Astrid watches how a bright orange McLaren pulls up the winding street, the loud motor disrupting the peaceful silence that always lays over this neighborhood. She puts on her customer smile, and opens her own door car to step out. Gentle snowfall greets her, while the sports car slows down and parks next to her Tesla. 

The tinted car windows don’t let her see the driver, but she knows who to expect. She has enough experience to not be nervous, and yet her heart rate still speeds up. It always does when there’s a potential seller of the estates she’s responsible for. 

“Good morning, Mr Piastri”, she greets her client, once he steps out of the car and locks it after shutting the door a bit loudly. Never would she be so careless with the beauty of a car like this one, truly, race car drivers and filthy rich people are a breed of their own. 

“Good morning.” He politely nods at her and she can’t help but eye his outfit. The agency had of course done their research, they always do to ensure the interest is genuine. They know that Ocsar Piastri can easily afford this villa, and another two on top of that. Not only because his family is loaded, as one would say, but because of his own career that has just picked up. 

And yet, he stands in front of her in black sweatpants, orange lettering spawning across the whole fabric and a too big sized hoodie. His hair is tousled, really, it looks like bed hair and don’t get her started on his shoes. 

“Shall we?”, she instead asks and he nods, following her into the building.

“I’m so happy for you, Oscar”, smiles Nicole and she means it. She has seen how hard her son worked the past season, how many people were cursing him at the beginning of the year only for him to show them wrong. Two race wins in his Rookie year and a broken record! 

But what made her even more proud— her son finally found someone again. After he unexpectedly split from Lily, which had been a big surprise for all of them, she hadn’t thought he would be in a relationship so quickly again. Not because she doesn’t believe he couldn’t, oh no, it just isn’t Oscar. He takes ages to fully trust someone and let someone so close into his life…

And what can she say? She absolutely adores Sabrina. The moment she saw the two interact, it was clear to her. These two would come a long way. 

Oscar treats her well, as Chris and her thought him, and Sabrina treats him well. They’re good for each other and it warms her heart everytime she sees them together, even if it’s just a picture. 

“When did you say she’s done with her concerts? We would love to meet her in person, you know?” Oscar hums over the phone and stands up from his seat, walking across the room and then pulls his laptop open. 

“So she’s pretty booked till mid April, but then we both would have some days off until the Miami race… after that we have the Met Gala… well, it will probably be around the end of April? But I have to ask her.”

“Please do”, asks Nicole. “It’s such a shame I could only talk to her over the phone, she’s such a lovely girl… the girls want to meet her too, you know?” Oscar snorts. 

“They only want her signature.” She can’t help but laugh, there is some truth to that after all.

Sofia stares down the young woman in front of her. This is the third interview she’s leading, in search of another person to be added to Oscar’s team. As of now, it consists of Mark, his manager, the two lawyers that are actually part of Mark’s team, Anna and Leon, Kim, his trainer and herself. Of course more people work with Oscar, but they’re the core of his team.

Now they need, because Oscar said so, a PR manager that is not tied to McLaren. Someone who will handle his socials, besides his Twitter account, no one will ever touch his oh so holy Twitter account, and work closely with Sabrina’s team. And of course, herself. Because, she will be honest. The workload has definitely increased the past few months, and she will be glad when she has two more hands to handle the young Aussie. 

“I want you to tell me your own PR strategy for the coming season.” 

“Just my own? As in what I would invision for—”

“Yes.” Lena, the young woman in question, gulps at Sofia’s harshness, but then focuses on her task. 

“First, I would encourage interaction between the people he’s already associated with. This includes his girlfriend. But I would also not cling onto that, reach out to other people. Definitely keep the humor he’s got…”

What the FUCK is Mclaren doing?

This may come off as a rant but this is a question that has bugged me for a bit now. Why did McLaren extend contract with Lando for several years but only one year with Oscar? 

Is it because Lando’s father invested some insane amount into the team? Like, I’m actually trying to understand their decisions since it doesn’t make any sense. Oscar performed almost better than Lando, he fucking WON a sprint and official race, that’s two more than Lando. So why would they extend Lando (let’s not talk about the announcement right after Charles put out his own… my god I cringed so hard when I watched the video) but not Oscar longer?

Because they can’t afford him. Or he doesn’t want to stay beyond 2024 at McLaren. Simple as that. 

Reliable Sources say Oscar had a low basic salary and instead was paid by performance, and he performed really well. This is quite usual within the business, but he is definitely one of the better paid drivers on the grid, despite being a Rookie. People are talking about 30-60k per point AND additional pay, probably Millions, for each win. That's big money for a Rookie.

It was probably negotiated like this in hopes of having a very good driver cheaply, but Oscar literally went through the roof in the second half of the season. There is talk that his base salary has been doubled or even tripled and bonuses adjusted. Keep in mind, this is only for one season, not like the multi-million dollar deal they did with Lando.

Sabrina blinks at Oscar. 

He’s holding two keys in his hand, offering it to her. A key to his new house he just bought days ago. And a car key. She spies the McLaren logo, so she’s pretty sure this is the key to his new McLaren he got as a gift for his performance last season. Two very, very expensive things Oscar owns. Which he’s now offering to her. 

“Oscar…”

“I don’t want to hear it”, he immediately interrupts her. “If you’re ever in Switzerland, because of your job or just for fun, you can live in my home. You don’t have to go to a hotel. And you won’t have to rent a car, use my McLaren, alright?” She blinks again, rapidly, and then hesitantly takes the two keys. Oscar gives her a blinding smile. 

“But… didn’t you want to keep the McLaren you got here in the UK?” 

He shakes his head, his hair becoming an even bigger mess and she has to hold the urge back to fix it. 

“Nah, McLaren provides me a company car, I don’t need two of them here. I already let it ship to Zurich, it’s already standing in my garage.” 

“Oh, okay.” She agrees, because there is no point in discussing things like this. Oscar won’t bulge from his decisions, she learned that in the few months she got to know him.

“Thank you.” Sabrina fiddles with the keys, a bit overwhelmed. Not everyone would offer their cars to their friends, or their home, because that’s what they are. Despite pretending to date, they’ve become close friends and it’s—

“Of course, Rina.” 

Yeah, close friends. Absolutely. Totally.

She’ll be honest. She already wrote most of the songs she planned, they just need some tweaking here and there. 

“Sabrina, I know that you and Piastri are going strong but… an album?” 

“Yes”, she says courtly. “An album for his birthday. In three months.”

“This could end very badly, Sabrina, I urge you to think about this—” She glares at the woman. One of the men in the call coughs.

“Considering that I am in the relationship with Oscar, I will decide on what to share with the world. And as of now, it’s an album, for his birthday, about us. This is merely a heads-up for you guys, the album will be published on April 6th.”

Lex is scrambling, opening Instagram as fast as she can, to join Sabrina’s live stream. With bated breath, she reloads the pop-star’s page several times, until the live story finally pops up. 

“Hi everyone!” Sabrina waves at the camera, and starts to greet all the fans spamming the chat. Lex just drinks in the details. The blonde has her hair open, it looks a bit tousled and her make-up is very light. She’s sitting on a beige couch and is holding her phone, so the footage is a bit shaky. 

“Yeah, I know… Osc is so mean for leaving me, all alone in this big house…” Sabrina pouts and Lex is so glad that she’s screen recording the live stream. The bright laugh Sabrina lets out seconds later fills her silent room. 

“You do know that I have to go through Kim’s torture and not you.” 

Hold on— Lex sits up and watches with wide eyes how Sabrina flips her camera. There he is, Oscar Piastri, boyfriend of Sabrina Carpenter. He wears black sweatpants, fashioned like cargo pants, and a pastel pink hoodie on, paired with a black cap. She’s pretty sure it’s one of the countless McLaren caps he owns, but still! Oscar and Sabrina together, after so long—

“You should cancel Kim.” Oscar just sighs and picks up a big bag, and oh god, his arms —

“I will not cancel my trainer just because you said so, darl .” Lex squeals when she hears Sabrina’s breath hitch, and then the nervous giggle, which she can’t hide. 

“Baby”, she honest to god whines and lowers the phone. Lex wants to scream, because now she can only see a fancy coffee table. Suddenly the screen goes black.

“Give me a goodbye kiss at least… to comfort me until you finally return.” 

“Of course, Rina.” And Lex actually screams. Then Oscar mutters something and Sabrina whispers back, but she isn’t able to hear it. Before she can curse the world for depriving her of the Oscarina moment, Sabrina picks up her phone again, flipping the camera. 

She immediately screenshots the smudged lips, while Sabrina waves to Oscar, until she finally turns her head back to the camera. 

“Okay, who wants to see Oscar’s big ass house?”

Kirsten warily eyes the big boss. Zak Brown is in the meeting room with around twenty other people, widely gesturing with his hands while everyone just looks… well she can’t really describe it.

Weird. Weird is fitting. Because the mood had been weird ever since Red Bull put out their announcement. The announcement of their driver driving for them in Le Mans. Some have been grumbling about betrayal, others are excited to see Oscar in other race formats, especially with Sebastian and Max as his teammates. 

And well, most are worried about the close relationship Oscar has with Red Bull. It could be blamed on the fact that there had been talks, or just that his manager Mark is a former Red Bull driver. 

They are a big team, yes, but Red Bull is bigger and sad to say, currently better. McLaren may have secured their star driver for 2024, but beyond? Kirsten doubted it.

But that isn’t her worry. She just has to worry about the public response, since everyone had been caught unaware about the announcement. They were a bit late in their congratulations, by a few hours only, but that is very late for an announcement like this. 

Apparently, so had been the info, Zak had been informed but ‘forgot’ to inform people like the PR team. 

Yeah, right.

“So, how are you liking Zurich?” Oscar sips his hot chocolate, while Seb is adding sugar to his coffee. 

“I like it. It’s very calm, despite so many people living in the city…” The older man nods in agreement.

“And your new home? I heard you’re doing some work on it now?” Oscar hums in agreement, but actually wonders how Seb heard about it. As far he knows, he only told his team and closer friends— of course. The moment he told Max, the whole grid would know. That yapper. 

“From where did you hear that? Surely not from Mark.” He grins at the raised eyebrow Seb gives him. “But yes, I’m expanding the garage, building a gym and sim rig in. And just generally doing some small restorations.”

“I heard it from Jens, just letting you know.” Oscar tilts his head in thought. He didn’t know that Max is close with Jenson, but maybe it already made its circles. Race car drivers, no matter if active or retired, are truly a bunch of gossips. 

“I see”, he just comments on it. 

“I’m curious, you know”, Seb starts again and Oscar raises his eyebrow. 

“Why didn’t you go to Red Bull this season? Christian would have taken you at any price, and you’re already with them in Le Mans…” 

“The longest teammate Max ever had in F1 was Checo. I know that I have the mental strength to be his teammate and competitive, that’s not the problem. But I don’t have the backing he does.” The German’s eyes widen and once he realizes what Oscar is implying he starts to grin. 

“You’re bringing in your own camp, straight from the sinking ship… my my, the drivers these days.” Oscar blinks in confusion. That’s not what he meant? He thinks? Why does Seb have to be so cryptic?

Logan will not lie. He feels a bit lonely. Traveling across the world has its perks of course and he would never dare to complain about his job, of course not. And yet, he doesn’t have… really anyone. Besides Oscar of course. 

Because Oscar is the best friend he could ever wish for. 

Even after all the success, the broken records, heck, even after Oscar somehow ended up in a relationship with a superstar, he always finds time for Logan. Despite how much time he spends with his teammate, despite his increased workload, despite everything. 

Oscar gave him a promise. A bit before their Rookie season began, before they finally became part of the big boys— Oscar gave him a promise and Logan remembers how squeamish he felt. 

“No matter what happens, Lo, you’ll always be my best friend.” And he promised. He promised with such conviction— 

To this day, he doesn’t know what exactly happened at Alpine, but Logan knows it left Oscar rattled. So Logan did what a best friend does, and promised the same.

Before Oscar has a chance to enjoy his winter break a bit more, he’s getting dragged from one event to another. McLaren wants him in the sim, and do test drives with the car for the coming season, while RB is pulling out the big guns regarding PR events.

And as if that’s not enough, Nike is knocking at his door and asking if he wants to become an ambassador. Apparently, if you put out new records, a brand with the slogan ‘Just do it’ really wants you to represent them. 

Of course he says yes, he actually likes Nike, especially their shoes, but it’s still exhausting, when he should… well, rest. 

Then he has the fitting for his suit, the Met Gala still months away, but Sabrina wants him to be ready. He will be honest and say the suit she picked for him, a special piece from a Prada collection, suits him. It suits him, despite still feeling a bit awkward, and he looks good. 

Sabrina is giddy over it for days, gushing on and on how good they will look on the red carpet and he can’t help but smile fondly every time she does it.

Will glances at Tom, then back at his own screen. Other engineers and strategists hustle around them, the giant office humming like a beehive. Ever since their drivers have returned, just a day ago, the McLaren Headquarters have been working overtime. 

Interviews are held, photoshoots planned and done, drivers ushered from one time slot to another and still, they can’t seem to get anything properly done. 

“Oscar is back in the sim, someone get Lando to do another session as well”, calls Tom into the room and an intern immediately jumps up to search his driver. Will sighs. The season hasn’t even started yet, but it already feels like Oscar is so much more far ahead. It’s good for the team to have such a driven athlete, but Will knows that Lando is suffering beneath it. Oscar’s success, his drive, his skills, everything he delivers. 

Because Will knows Lando. Having known him for many years now, he knows how fragile his mentality is. He’s still a race driver, still strong headed and ambitious, but if you compare him to someone like Oscar, an absolute beast, it doesn’t look good for him. 

Already he and the team, Lando’s side of the McLaren garage, have prepared themselves for a talk, if not several ones. 

Will focuses on the numbers again, sent straight from the sim, and he grimaces at the results. Oscar has set five fastest laps, only to top himself again, while Lando still tries to get comfortable with the new setup. 

“What did Mark feed that fucking kid?”, someone asks Tom, and that fucker only laughs. 

“Apparently nothing, that’s all Oscar.”

“Don’t believe that, mate.” 

Will can believe it. He has to. Because the numbers speak the truth— as of now, Oscar is the better driver.

Just two weeks away from Bahrain, McLaren does one final test drive at Silverstone. They’ve already done some, with their development drivers, but now they finally have Oscar and him back in the UK, ready to get acquainted with the MCL38.

Normally Lando would be giddy to be back in the car, a fresh start for a new season but something just hasn’t clicked with him yet. The car felt weird in the sim, a bit too oversteer for his tastes and when he finally adapted, Oscar was already setting one fastest lap after another. 

Now he’s sipping his gatorade, while his people bustle around the car. The plan is for him to go first on track and he wants to feel confident. 

And when he finally does his laps, warming up the tires and going all out— it’s the MCL60 all over again. 

He can’t do this again, not when Zak promised him and Oscar a proper car, one that works for both of them but apparently they’re all fucking useless. Himself included, because he doesn’t have the miracle hands Oscar has.

If Oscar had to describe his greatest weapon regarding driving, he would say it’s his talent for adaptability. In his first life, he had world champion’s as teammates, constructor teams and over two decades within the sport. You pick a few things up, here and there. He has started with struggling and allround balanced cars, switched over to oversteer only to be hit by understeer— he is sure he has driven every existing setup there is and he won six Championships with them. 

His greatest weakness has become his strength, people assuming they could walk over him just because he doesn’t throw a temper tantrum when something doesn’t work out. 

And over the years, he developed and polished his own proper driving style. Precise and in absolute control. His personality has transferred over on track and he can’t help but be proud of it. Despite the shock he has experienced after waking up to the Alpine fiasco, he has regained those skills, skills he worked hard for.

He can’t wait for next year, where he will drive a car that’s made for his preferences. And a teammate he can properly challenge. 

Now, the current McLaren has to be enough. At least they changed his setup, it won't be a repeat of last season.

Lando is now in his fifth year. With McLaren, with Formula One. How can it be, that a Rookie, younger and more inexperienced than him, having been stuck with goddamn Alpine is better than him? How can it be, that Oscar has not only won one race but two already, how can it be, that McLaren, his team is focusing so much on his teammate? Is it because he broke Lewis Hamilton’s records? Between the race in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, there isn’t much time for anything really. His days are filled with training, meetings and phone calls ranging from McLaren to Red Bull and other things, he can barely squeeze in short streams and even shorter calls with Sabrina. His ‘girlfriend’ is still touring on the Eras Tour, which he knows is a big deal, and she’s busy herself with the release of a surprise album, despite already having one announced for the coming summer. 

So he’s busy, they’re busy— everyone is really. 

It’s the stress of the new season, the excitement flueling to keep on going, not stopping until they’ve done it again. 

Winning. Because that’s what Oscar wants. To win, to be on the top step and bring home trophies and glory to his name. 

And that’s what he will do.

“Alright Oscar, are you ready?” He nods, and the cameras start to roll. 

Russ does his job, keeps his eyes on the data, while the driver has to answer some questions. He’s silent, only nods and shakes his head as Oscar answers the questions. 

“Would you ever like to be teammates with Max Verstappen?” 

“Yes”, Oscar only says and he’s surprised that this is the truth. 

“Oh… how interesting. So follow up question, do you think Max is the best driver on the grid?”

“No.” Russ nods again, having now clocked the sheer confidence the young Aussie has in himself. 

“...believe in yourself, well done Oscar. Now, just one last question, we know that the women in your life are very important to you, we’ve seen it on several occasions already— your mother, your sisters, your grandma I believe as well and of course, your girlfriend. You’ve been with her for some time now, but can you say you love her?”

“Yes, I do.”

“It’s going”, he just says and then turns back to his papers, papers from his client. 

“It is?”Alexander sounds surprised and then steps closer. “I thought he was giving you a hard time. Didn’t he buy a property in Switzerland, despite you telling him to move to Monaco?” 

“He did.” He shuffles with the papers, but sadly, Alexander already caught a glimpse of the stock Mr Piastri just recently had bought. 

“HP? And Nike? Freaking Google? What is he doing— is he even listening to your advice? Wait, what are those… I’ve never heard of these companies— holy shit, two Million?! I thought his salary was 16?”

“Yes. My client has invested around two Million in multiple shares.”

“Why even— these absolutely don’t make sense, I mean yes, Google is alright, but—”

“He is a global ambassador for Nike. As for the other companies, he hasn’t given me much reasoning and I’m not going to question final decisions, when all I can do is offer advice. It’s his money.” 

“My god”, mumbles Alexander.

Lando is an unsuspecting soul, sitting in a call with Quadrant, when his phone starts to vibrate like crazy. He tries to ignore it, blindly reaching and ready to put it on do not disturb, when his eyes catch the recent message from his manager.

He frowns, tuning out the rest of the call, apologizing with a small mumble and unlocking his phone. 

Check your Instagram right now! 

He does, opening the cursed app and is greeted by a climbing number of notifications. A bit overwhelmed, he tries to catch up with them, until he gets sent another message. 

Sabrina Carpenter mentioned in her story, it’s not good. 

Oh shit, he thinks, immediately typing in her handle and clicking on her story. 

“Mate? Lando, are you listening?”

“Sorry, sorry”, he waves them off. “Apparently the internet is going bonkers right now, for some reason Oscar’s girl mentioned me in her story…” 

And she did. Having posted a small clip of a PR video from McLaren, the one where Lando is all giggly and breathless, calling Oscar ‘Osc’. Something that has become a usual occurrence— him being the one with heart eyes as soon as he's close to his teammate. The short clip is captioned with the following words.

First and final warning, Osc is already taken, search a new nickname for your teammate and my man🫵. 

Lando gulps. The oddly specific mention of ‘your teammate’ and ‘my man’ hits him right in the heart. It fucking stings— no, it does more than just sting. Publicly called out by his girlfriend, someone he never talked to, as if she couldn’t have said that in his DMs. 

Of course it’s nothing more than some light hearted joking, some good PR, at least from her side it must be, but it still hurts. 

“Sorry, uhm… guys, I have to go and— uh, yeah, solve that.” Without waiting for a proper goodbye, he ends the call and leans back in his chair, replaying the story again and again. He sees Oscar’s gentle smile— it’s not even gentle, it’s just a simple, polite smile and yet…

Sabrina’s story updates again and Lando fears what’s awaiting him. 

He’s greeted by a zoomed in selfie, a bit of a less flattering angle of the blonde’s face, but she still looks very beautiful, while sticking out her tongue.

“There, he’s muted”, says Chris. “Dramatic hoe”, mutters Crane, making the rest of the men chuckle.

The race in Saudi Arabia sees him on the podium once again, sharing the top step with Max and Charles. Something that will happen often in this season, he certainly hopes so. Sharing podiums with them is something Oscar has always liked and he can only hope McLaren won’t fuck up the updates for the season, so he can enjoy this. 

He grips his trophy, raises it over his head and listens to the cheers. He hasn’t won yet, not in this season, but he knows the glory is near. Not there yet, but close.

Mark can’t believe it, but he’s actually back in Milton Keynes. He’s here because Oscar got roped into fucking endurance racing— Le Mans with Red Bull. 

He still wants to shake the younger man sometimes. Leaving everyone scrambling while he’s doing ‘side quests’, as Lena describes it. It describes it well. Because he’s still reeling over the fact that a singer, a very successful one on top of that, is Oscar’s girlfriend and now kinda living in his new home in Switzerland? Obviously he knows of the millions Oscar made the last season, he had been the spearhead of the contract negotiations after all, worrying about the very low base salary and just hoping McLaren won’t screw his protegée over. 

In the end Mark thinks Oscar screwed them over. He can’t help but feel a bit of satisfaction, he has seen how Zak has been shifting his focus from Lando to Oscar, throwing the whole concept of their car around, just to meet Oscar’s demand. 

Any other team and they would’ve never given into Oscar’s demand so easily, record breaking rookie season or not. So Mark doesn’t feel sorry for them, the money they’re going to lose, the instability in McLaren showing. 

This is what they get for following the path of a greedy boss. 

And it would be nice to see Oscar in navy anyways, because Mark knows he will do well there. 

(But just because he supports Oscar growing a backbone, doesn’t mean he supports all of his decisions. Throwing several millions into the stock market, already buying a property in a country where the tax is heavy compared to others, the scandals involving himself with his girlfriend… he could do well without that, thank you very much.)

Christian knows the rest of the company wants to sign Oscar. They all see his potential, he’s already in the upper half of the Driver’s Championship, right behind their current driver. Christian knows that Red Bull wants Oscar, because he has the potential of another Max. Hell, even Seb, if not Schumacher. Oscar has the potential of being one of the best, the greatest in the sport, and he has already proven it last season. 

And now, with just two races in, he’s already performing better than his teammate, getting the best out of the car and he has seen him in the HyperCar. 

Oscar is made for Red Bull. For broken records, the navy color, the bulls. 

He’s confident that they will have him next year. Because Oscar himself had asked for one more year at McLaren, for whatever reason, Christian doesn’t understand, not when he could already win races in a Red Bull. 

But next year… next year they’ll have the best driver pairing on the grid and Zak can fuck off with his stupid—

“Christian, do you have a moment?” He blinks, in front of him is Oscar. Wearing what the younger generations would call fashionable, baggy but comfortable looking clothes, paired with a Red Bull cap. Not the one for Formula One, instead the line they’re launching soon for Le Mans.

Oscar leaves a week early for Melbourne, to visit his family after ages and prepare for his home race. He leaves behind Sabrina in his home in Switzerland, her own priorities keeping her busy. She’s brooding over song lyrics, she told him, for her next album she announced some time ago. And while she has most of the songs ready, some even already recorded, ready to be wrapped up, others are nowhere near ready and her management is pressuring her about it. 

He still invites her to the race, and she told him she would come, if only for Sunday. It’s fine, he says to himself. Because there will be other GP’s where she can come to support him, many other opportunities to have in his garage. 

So instead of worrying about… all of that, he focuses on the upcoming race. Spends time with his sister, his parents, and then gets dragged from PR events to interviews, his team steadily behind him.

He feels good. He knows this will be a good weekend.

Sabrina will be honest. Oscar isn’t really her type. Or well, she wouldn’t have thought him to be her type. 

In the past, her crushes have always been a bit more ruggish men, often older and not younger. Actors and models, men from the same industry and not athletes. Men who understood her busy schedule because they lived the same life. 

And yet, all these men from her past have one thing in common with Oscar. An ego. 

How could they not? If they wanted to be successful? But unlike her past flings, boyfriends and crushes, Oscar is egoistic in a way without hurting others. He’s incredibly kind and patient, a calming presence in her hectic life but also vicious. 

She has seen the glint in his eyes the moment he puts his race suit on. She has seen and heard the biting words he exchanged with his manager when talking about his new contract, his plans for the future. 

Oscar doesn’t just do things halfway, despite his somewhat sleepy nature. He’s going full in, confident in whatever he’s doing and not giving a flying fuck what others think about it. It’s something she admires, the utter self-confidence and calmness he always has. 

Sabrina could go on and on, always find new ways to describe Oscar but it always comes back to this: she loves him. 

She loves his dry humor, his silly obsession with his Twitter account, his non-existing fashion sense, his cooking— Sabrina loves Oscar. For some time now. 

One day she had woken up, having reached for her phone, hoping for a message from Oscar, smiling widely when she saw she had several from him waiting for her. It was then when she realized she wished for him to be her real boyfriend. Her man, as she jokingly calls him, hers alone. 

It’s also then where she decided to write an album for his birthday, hoping to express her feelings and—

Sabrina had a plan. Said plan got thrown overboard when she watched the video Sky Sports put up on their YouTube channel, because she watches every interview and PR Oscar’s in. 

So, she had watched that fateful video, just six minutes long and got hit with Oscar admitting he loves her. Or well, saying he loves her and the lie detector not acting up. She still has doubts, because how accurate are those machines? Especially with someone like Oscar, who is the definition of calmness? 

Which is why she immediately messaged Oscar, who’s already in the paddock, getting ready for the race, while she’s just making her way there. 

Sabrina doesn’t quite run to the McLaren garage, she still has some dignity, but she still rushes through the paddock, evading fans and personnel alike, while her own team tries to catch up with her. 

She arrives at the garage with a flushed face, her hands shaking and she immediately grabs the nearest person wearing papaya, asking where Oscar is. He points her towards the end of the garage, hidden from the public, and she immediately goes in. 

“Oscar!” Said man lifts his head, the two strategists next to him blinking at her, when she plants herself in front of him. 

“Hello, Sabrina”, he greets her calmly, as if she didn’t blow up his phone, as if she didn’t— 

And now that she’s finally standing in front of him, all words have left her and she feels herself blush. Her eyes go wide when he takes her hand, intertwining their fingers and leading her away from prying eyes, right into his room. 

She hears the click of the door closing and her breath stutters. This is it.

Before Oscar can utter a word, ask her or even explain himself, she hits him with a soft “Did you mean it?” Her voice trembles, and she looks at him, tears brimming in her eyes—

“Yes”, is all he says and he means it. Sabrina’s eyes widen, she sucks in a sharp breath and he takes one final step, ready to change everything. He squeezes her hand gently. 

“I love you, Rina.” He has done it, he has finally uttered those words after weeks, months—

“I love you, Osc”, she whispers back and then shyly looks up to him. 

“Can I—” Her words die in her throat, when Oscar finally does what he has wanted for months now. Gently cupping her face in his hands, he takes in her beauty, her fluttering lashes, her flushed cheeks, her trembling lips. She leans onto him and he holds her, steady, strong.

Their first kiss is sweet and slow, almost nervous. But then she grows bold, her hands sneaking into his hair, his own circling her waist. He loses himself in the moment, mind spinning because finally— finally she knows he loves her and she loves him back. Everything is going so fast, and Oscar can’t help but want more of what he has right now.

He blindly guides her towards the table, and they stumble across his room, lips still locked together. Oscar lifts her, he has seen her heels and he will not have this moment ruined by them being clumsy— the gasp she lets out makes him shiver, her legs immediately circling around his waist. 

“Oscar”, she moans so prettily into his ear, when he parts from her, finally opening his eyes again to orient himself. With one swipe, he clears the table, papers fluttering on the floor together with pencils and a few books. Gently placing her on the surface, he leans backwards, cupping her face again. 

“Love you so much”, he mutters only to dive right back in.

Being tasked to collect his teammate, Lando makes his way to Oscar’s room. He still doesn’t know why he has to do it, especially when it’s Oscar’s home race and he’s not a Rookie anymore. There are at least a dozen other people who could do it, but he doesn't start a discussion with Andrea over something so simple.

So he does what he always does, sharply knocks at the door and when he doesn’t hear an answer, he opens it. 

He wishes he didn’t. 

Lando is greeted by papers laying all over the floor, with Oscar and his girlfriend right in the middle of it. Making out. In the prestages of a fuck— it looks like bloody foreplay to him, their hands all over each other.

It’s not even kissing anymore, oh no. Because Oscar has his race suit unzipped, and she got her hands beneath his fireproofs, he can spy the unblemished white skin of his waist, while Oscar is practically sucking her face. Chris raises his eyebrow when he sees his son leaving his driver room, just a few minutes behind Lando. Because right behind him is his girlfriend, looking flushed but lovingly gazing at him, as if he had hung the moon for her. 

His daughters snicker right next to him, furiously whispering and pointing out the lipstick stain Oscar has just below his jaw. 

“I can’t believe these two”, mutters Mark behind him and Chris turns towards the other man. “They’re gonna give me gray hairs if they continue like this.” Then he walks over to them, gently pries Oscar away from Sabrina, points out his… messiness and tells him to hurry up. Oscar glances towards them, a grimace flashing over his face and Chris can’t help but smirk. 

Sabrina doesn’t join them, not yet, instead she’s immediately surrounded by a group of people, trying to drag her back behind the garage, probably to freshen her up. 

“Sabrina, what have I told you—” The blond seems to ignore her furious manager and instead gently waves towards his son, who waves back— with a lovesick smile on his face, while Mark tries to guide him towards his engineers. 

Yeah, they’re absolutely gone for each other. Nicole had absolutely nothing to worry about.

“It’s very nice to meet you finally.” Sabrina widely grins at them, immediately shaking Chris’ hand and then her own. “I’m sorry it took so long—”

“Don’t you worry, we all know how busy you are, both Oscar and you.” Nicole gently smiles at the girl, the girlfriend of his only son and she feels content. After Oscar suddenly had broken up with Lily, she had worried for him, as any mother would. Because Oscar and Lily had been going strong for many years now and she had worried that so much change within a short time would leave him reeling. 

It didn’t. Instead her son had only grown stronger and even managed to find such a nice girl. 

“Are you actually writing a song for Oscar?”, Edie asks and Mae immediately shushes her. 

“You can’t just ask that, we just met her, why are you like this—”

“Uhm, yeah.” Sabrina laughsnervously. “But uh— it’s not just a song, so…”

“Oh my god, a whole ass album for our lil baby bro?! Since when is he so cool—”

“Girls”, grumbles Chris next to her and Nicole can’t help but laugh.

Lena doesn’t get any pictures of Oscar and Sabrina kissing— at least not on the lips. What she instead gets is probably even sweeter, a few kisses on the cheeks, some hugs and the couple holding hands when leaving the paddock with the Piastri Family. 

She puts together a post for Oscar, after sending a bunch of pictures over to Sabrina’s management, in hopes they would post a few of them. 

Obviously they do, and Lena applauds herself for a job well done. After all, the internet has gone crazy over Oscarina once again.

Lando tries not to be bitter, he really doesn’t. But his P7 finish is frustrating, especially when he has to celebrate with the team, after all, Oscar scored a podium. Again. He’s scraping for points, struggling to control his car while Oscar… Oscar just does well. Even better than well, he does so fucking good.

And it should be him. It should be him on the podium, next to Carlos and Max and all the good and fast drivers. It should be him, because he has been here longer and McLaren is his team, it has always been his but instead—

Instead it’s Oscar. Oscar on the top step, Oscar so close to winning once again, Oscar with an actual race win, Oscar with broken records, Oscar actually being able to drive the shit box. Heck, it isn’t even a shitbox when he’s driving it! It’s unfair and Lando tries so hard, he tries so hard not to be bitter.

Because Oscar deserves it. He’s working hard, he has the talent, and Lando could never hate him. 

But Lando can’t also not be bitter. 

It’s exhausting.

Oscar’s lips are tingling. His hair is tousled and he knows his face must be flushed. His heart is racing and his breath is coming out in short pants and yet he wouldn’t change a thing. 

Because Sabrina is in his arms, thighs wrapped around his hips, her full weight resting on his lap. 

They’ve been like this for hours now, lips locked, hands all over each other— never wanting this moment to end. Now that they’ve finally allowed each other to take the one step, Oscar can’t get enough. Of Sabrina’s lips on his, her lips on his skin, her hands on him, his own circling around her waist and don’t get him started on all sweet noises she makes for him. 

“Did I tell you”, he mutters against her swollen lips and she hums in question. “Did I already tell you that I love you?” Her bright giggle makes his heart swell.

Obviously she wants to spend every minute with him, but she still has her own packed schedule.

“Yes, we have something planned”, Mark tells her. “Something small, he doesn’t like big parties and told me he will celebrate with his family after the race. So we just got in his side of the garage, we’ll have some cake and a restaurant reservation for everyone.” 

Lena nods at that, it sounds reasonable. 

“Sabrina should also come? At least for Sunday, well that’s the plan”, Sofia adds and Lena has to hide her grin when Mark sighs. Then he sighs again and she doesn’t pretend to be serious anymore.

“I heard she’ll gift him a song for his birthday.” The grimace on Mark’s face makes her crack up. 

“I guess, I should tell the restaurant that we may have to cancel the party…” Lena would feel sorry for Mark, for being in the front row of Oscar being a simp for Sabrina, but she would never complain about witnessing the pure cinema the couple delivers every time… so she doesn’t. Instead she makes sure she catches everything on camera and further enables them. As she should, it’s her job after all.

Lando grimaces. Oscar is sitting next to him, furiously typing, or well, as furiously as someone like Oscar can type, on his phone. The race is nothing to write home about. A bit disappointing, if he’s honest, but at least he still got some points. Of course, a podium would’ve been nice for his birthday, and yet he’s also happy he doesn’t have to deal with all the celebrations around it. 

Instead he can focus on the people celebrating his birthday. He gets a nice cake from the team, a bear hug from Mark and Sofia, some squealing from Lena and of course, Sabrina. She’s right by his side, slotting herself against him so naturally—

She sings with the team, pressing a kiss against his cheek once the serenade is over and the people around him start to clap and cheer. Her bright giggles is all he can hear and his hand sneaks around her waist, pressing her closer because he still can’t believe—

Exactly like that, move closer, closer, I want a good picture!” Lena starts to direct the people around him, making sure he’s standing in the middle, right behind the silly sport shirt shaped cake. But he can’t really dwell on it, not when everyone else is demanding for his attention.

Hours later, after the race and the small party McLaren has thrown for her boyfriend, Sabrina finally, finally gets to gift Oscar the Gift. The Gift with a capital G, because she has been working on this for months now. The mini Album won’t be shared with the world until midnight and for that Sabrina still has enough time left. 

“Alright, I’m ready for your absolutely spectacular gift—” He says once they finally enter their hotel room.

“You’re mocking me”, she accuses him and wags her finger, but Oscar only grins at her. 

“Enough of that, sit down.” Oscar raises his eyebrow but follows her order, sitting on the edge of the king sized bed. Sabrina then finally gives him her gift, smaller than her own palm. She notices his frown and can’t help but giggle. 

With keen eyes she watches how he gently rips the paper, until finally revealing a sleek black box. He opens it slowly, and then takes the USB stick out. It’s nondescriptive, a silver tiny thing. 

“Here you go.” Sabrina hands him her laptop, eagerly waiting for Oscar to finally open the file on the drive. She really can’t wait for him to finally listen to her songs for the first time. Songs about him.

“So, Mark, is Oscar hitting the clubs? He left a bit earlier than I expected.” Mark just takes a sip from his whiskey, already regretting his choice in accepting the invitation for a drink. 

“You know, he absolutely deserves going all out, that boy is so hard working and—” Zak continues to prattle on, always circling around the same topic. Oscar. 

“But say, Mark, since when has this been going on with that girlfriend of his?” This time Zak actually waits for him to answer. Mark sighs.

“Honestly, I would like to know myself. He didn’t even tell me when he broke up with Lily. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they had been talking since summer last year, or even earlier.”

“Hmm. I didn’t think he had a thing for blondes. But oh well! We learn something new everyday.” Mark doesn’t answer, instead he just downs his drink and gestures for the bartender for a refill. 

“Lando will be disappointed, especially after today”, the man next to him remarks and he whips his head around. 

“What do you mean?” Zak raises an eyebrow and looks at him as if he’s stupid. And honestly, Mark feels a bit like it. Because Zak Brown is an irritating and confusing personality, saying one thing and meaning another— he’s really not made for this shit and yet he continues to suffer through it. 

“I’m sure you’ve seen Lando pant after Oscar… that boy always has to fall for his teammates. Messy, messy…” 

“Right”, Mark adds to that, because what else can he say to this mess?

“Oscar is at least sensible enough to not enable him. A smart lad, something we definitely needed…” 

Mark hides his grimace, while taking a massive gulp of his drink. The way Zak speaks down on his own driver, someone he had called his star driver before Oscar had taken the reins… McLaren is truly messy. No wonder Oscar wants to escape that.

In moments like these, the world seems to slow down and he can actually grasp— he’s alive, and present, his own heart beating strong, and he has a second chance . 

Oscar doesn’t know why, nor does he think he deserved it, his first life had been pretty much fulfilling. And yet, he doesn’t run after answers, instead he’s selfish, just once, and does his best to enjoy his second life.

Loving Sabrina is just another part of him being selfish.

They go home for a few days, the excitement of Oscar’s birthday and her album release finally over, at least for them. She enjoys the peaceful silence Switzerland gives her, no paparazzi waiting for them once they’ve landed in Zurich, hidden away behind the walls belonging to her boyfriend. 

Well, apparently those walls are also hers now, at least some of them. Because Oscar has a room ready for her, with a giant walkable wardrobe, telling her if she wants to use it she can. No pressure. As if the wardrobe isn’t right next to his own room, a silent invite— 

She says yes of course and sends her assistant back in the US, an urgent mail, telling her to prepare to ship a part of her wardrobe to Switzerland. They will still need to have a proper conversation about it, but Oscar has opened his doors for her, handing her the keys for the property, making space for her. 

The gentle but firm hand of Oscar, the way he’s handling all those important decisions, impactful in both of their lives, leaves her breathless. He’s taking the weight of those steps she has to take, not just gently nudging her towards the direction he wishes her to go. He just takes her hand and takes her with him— calm, steady, dominant. 

Just this one act, of him showing her the room he had made for her, the place he had carved out for her in his own home, has shown her once again how much he loves her. This revelation, a seemingless small thing to others, means the world to her. Because Oscar had loved her for a long time now, if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have given all of this.

We are very sure this isn’t a rumor, but an actual fact, because we have heard it from different sources, coming from the paddock and people close to Sabrina. She won’t be moving to Switzerland like Oscar did (who is paying taxes there), she still has her residency in the US, but has started to ship a few things to Zurich and will be Oscar’s ‘roommate’. 

It’s very unusual for an F1 Driver to live anywhere else but his home country, close to the factory for the team he’s driving or in Monaco. Apparently Monaco was never on the table for Oscar, he’d rather pay high tax and have complete privacy instead of constantly running into people he knows. And we know he can afford it, due to the unexpected high salary from his Rookie season and his investments. 

Sabrina moving in with Oscar isn’t very surprising, these two are going incredibly strong and I would be quite shocked if they would break up so soon.

Life goes on. Kinda. Oscar is busy with race preparation and the race itself, this time in China, the little time they were able to spend with each other is nothing compared to the days they’re spending apart. 

Sabrina misses Oscar, and even the regular calls and constant texting doesn’t help. She knows she’s in her honeymoon phase, she always is with her new boyfriends. But Oscar is different. He keeps the feeling afloat, and if someone would tell her that the honeymoon phase wouldn’t end with him, she would totally believe them. 

Because Oscar. Oscar is so considerate. It’s the small things. Despite being a bad texter by today’s definition, he always makes room and time for her, no matter what he’s doing. She knows he has several unread texts waiting for him, but he always opens their chat first when he takes his phone in his hand.

Just this small thing, not even the times where he says ‘I love you’—

Oh how she loves him.

His weekend in China is uneventful. The joke of him collecting his home races starts again, a cheeky tweet building the foundation of what is to come next. He still drops some lines here and there, kinda missing the close friendship he had built with some drivers thanks to the joke. 

Due to him performing better than Lando and not being as starry eyed as in his first life, Lando and him aren’t as close anymore. And with that, he’s also more distant with the rest of the grid, automatically excluding him because Lando doesn’t bring him in. 

It’s not that Oscar really cares, he still has Logan after all, but he does miss his friendships, especially with Charles and Max. The three of them had grown very close over the years, each of them Champions and Winners, having had their own struggles and experiences with their teams. It had brought them closer. 

But that can wait. Instead Oscar focuses on Logan, who has been trying to put a brave face on ever since the fiasco in Australia, but he knows better.

Logan tries to ignore the burning stare he can literally feel on his skin. If he would turn around now, he knows he would see the hateful glare of the British Driver that doesn’t really like him. Probably hates him, despises him. He doesn’t know why, but he can only suspect it. 

He knows that Oscar isn’t very close with Lando, thinking him as immature and insecure in his skills, something that doesn’t do you any favor in this sport. Next to Oscar, who seems to be the definition of confidence, Lando doesn’t look like he belongs. And Logan has heard the whispers, from McLaren and even other people on the paddock— the Papaya team is slowly but surely moving their focus to his best friend, a shift that still happens to fast. 

The foundations of the team are crumbling, most of the sponsors unhappy by the uneven driver lineup, while newer sponsors are readily throwing their support behind Oscar. He doesn’t even want to think of the chaos that will break out once his best friend leaves at the end of the season.

Oscar on the other hand, standing next to him and happily telling him all about the things he did with Sabrina in Switzerland, which wasn’t that much, remains unknowing. Logan doesn’t know if he should cry or laugh at this entire situation.

Christian eyes the papaya colored garage, first greeted by Norris’ face, then Oscar’s. Both garages are still buzzing, like any other garage right now. He slowly walks past, next to him two of his strategists, each of them talking and him nodding every other second. 

They look busy. Innocently busy. He knows some cameras have caught his unusual walk right after the race, but he needs to do this. Show his face right in front of the McLaren garage, the deep blue a threat to them. He needs to send a message. 

“Oh, Oscar! Hello, I thought you’d be already at the debrief?” Christian nods at the driver, his future driver. The Australian nods back in greeting. 

“Hello Christian. No, I have some time. Lando’s car picked up some damage and they’re trying to figure out why I didn't do so.” The young man shrugs, as if not really caring for the actual result. 

“Ah, I see. That’s unfortunate. But you had a solid race, I have to say. A bit unlucky with the pitstop, yes?” 

“Yeah, it was a bit ill timed, but oh well. Still got some points after all.” Christian moves a bit closer, slowly steering Oscar away from his own garage, down to Red Bull. He can feel the cameras on them, which is very good.

“When do you have to be back? I would like to invite you to a coffee and introduce you to some people.” Oscar shrugs at that, fishes out his phone, scrolls quickly through it and then locks it again. “I have two hours, Andrea just set the time for the meeting. Thought I could take a nap, but I won’t say no to a coffee.” 

“I assume it’s people for Le Mans?” Christian grins at that. Technically they are, but more importantly, they’re people from Red Bull. 

“Yes, we’re having a hard time getting all the important people right on time when you, Seb and Max are at the Headquarters, it’s more sponsors related, I hope that’s alright. No worries, no big names or anything like that, mostly former drivers and some legacy people.”

“Yeah, that’s fine, you guys can keep me entertained.” Oscar grins when Christian actually laughs at that.

Oscar knows it’s hard to match what Sabrina gifted him for his birthday. He can’t sing, nor is he very creative regarding texts, and considering Sabrina has her own fortune and can buy herself pretty much anything she wants, it’s hard to find something that can even match an Album.

The car is quick. But Red Bull and Ferrari are still quicker. Oscar knows that later in the season, McLaren will have the fastest car, but with the changes he made he isn’t sure anymore. 

This MCL38 is built for him, something that hasn’t been done in his first life. Obviously it’s not perfect and they’re having some struggles with the set-up— but it’s fast. Oscar makes it fast. 

Maybe he fucked the team over with his demands, but he will not play second fiddle for a whole season, this is not why he stayed back, why he didn’t take Red Bull’s offer. 

And yet, in the end, it’s him who puts the car on pole, not Max, not Charles, not even Lando. He’s on top and it feels good.

Claiming Miami as the first win of the season feels almost poetic. He fought hard for it and the top step is now his reward. Of course he knows, this is technically Lando’s win, in his first life, but they’re no longer there— he’s no longer there. He’s in his second life, his second chance and he’s never going to give away a win, just because it had been someone’s first win in another life. 

No matter how close he had been with Lando. 

Instead he jumps out of his car, raises his arms and listens to the cheers of his team, the fans around them. He jogs up to his team, letting himself fall into the waiting arms of the engineers. Someone starts a chant, screaming his name, the audience near them immediately picking it up. 

It feels good. To win. He wants to do it again. Over and over.

After the crowd has calmed a bit, which is not much, Zak tries to push him towards one of the guests of the garage. But Oscar shakes him off, he will not be be congratulated by a fucking politician when his girlfriend is right there. 

His girlfriend, with the widest smile on her face, jumping up and down in those ridiculous high heels of hers, Sofia trying to act as a support to prevent her from falling, waves frantically once she sees him coming towards her. He chuckles beneath his helmet and while he speedwalks towards her, he fiddles with the clasps around his chin. 

Oscar takes his helmet off, the balaclava not far behind, together with the HANS and thrusts everything into the hands of an orange clad person trying to catch up with him. The last few meters, he jogs up to Sabrina, who immediately gets her hands on him. 

“You won”, she giggles and he grins back at her, but before he can utter any words, she takes his face in her hands. Without any hesitation, she tiptoes and presses their lips together. 

His hands immediately circle around her waist and he bends his neck a bit to lessen her straining and— 

Oscar’s pretty sure a groan leaves his mouth, swallowed by Sabrina’s lips. She’s a good kisser. Oh so bold, ready to take and take and he wants more. More of her tongue, more of her cherry flavored lips, more of her teasing nibbles. So he doesn’t understand when she parts her lips from his, her hands having wandered from his cheeks to his shoulders. 

“I think others want their race winner—”

“Don’t care”, he mumbles and he doesn’t, because it’s his second Grand Prix win, the first one his girlfriend, proper girlfriend, watched him win. And so he does what any winner with a gorgeous girlfriend would do and kisses her again.

Charles grins at Max, both of them having a bit of a distance between them, since Oscar will be sitting in the middle. They’re still waiting for the race winner, but it seems as if he got held up. 

He had witnessed the… kiss, one could say, between Oscar and his girlfriend. With how late the Australian is, it seemed that she got hold of him again. Charles giggles at the thought, he can’t wait for this press conference. 

When the race winner finally joins them, the journalists immediately calm down, watching with bated breath how the young Aussie makes his way to the podium couch. 

Expectedly, most of the questions are for Oscar, so Charles allows himself to zone out for a bit, until he manages to catch a particular inquiry of a… not so smart journalist.

“Question for Oscar, how is it having Donald as your guest, in your garage witnessing your win?” Charles breathes in, glances at Max, who has leaned back. Now this could get interesting. 

“I’m sorry, who?” He blinks, then turns his head towards Oscar. Oscar, who is frowning, head tilted, as if confused about the question. 

“As far I’m aware, I only have Sabrina as my personal guest?” Charles pretends to cough, to hide the grin that’s growing on his face. He really didn’t expect this. 

Then he watches Oscar turn his face towards Max, leaning forward a bit and lowering his microphone, whisper shouting to one of the McLaren PR personnel waiting at the side. 

“Kristen?! Who is Donald? I’m just— did I miss a debrief, uh, meeting on guests? I’m so sure—” The journalists, who asked the insensitive question, interrupts him.

“Oscar, we meant Donald Trump.” Oscar turns his head towards the man, lifts his microphone and just says, “Oh.” 

“Still stand by my previous answer tho.” From the corner of his eyes, Charles can see how Max’s shoulders are shaking with silent laughter. Meanwhile, Oscar drops his microphone on his lap again , ignoring the thump it makes, and takes a big sip from his opened Monster can. The silence is awkward, so Charles jumps in, with a pleasant smile on his face. 

“Are there any questions you guys have for P2 and P3?”

“Osc, you look really handsome”, says Sabrina, when he finally steps into the room, wearing his suit and his hair done. 

“Thank you, Rina. And you look really beautiful.” The people around them coo at that, but Oscar ignores them. Instead he takes the hand Sabrina reached towards him, his thumb brushing over the jewelry she has already put on. 

He can’t take his eyes off her. The dress hugs her figure, her hair draped artfully over her shoulder. As always, he lifts her hand and presses a gentle kiss on the back of it, watches with a small smirk how flustered his girlfriend gets over the simple gesture. 

“No funny business you two”, hisses one of Sabrina’s managers, but she waves the woman off. 

“Don’t worry, Oscar will behave.” 

“I will behave? What about you?” Sabrina lifts her finger and presses it against his lips, a cheeky smirk on her face. 

“Yes, I will behave”, he mutters against her finger and she giggles at that. He still presses a kiss against it, only smiling innocently when she raises her eyebrow. 

Their little moment gets destroyed by one of the assistants, giving Sabrina a white box. Her face lights up at the sight of it, and she immediately opens it. 

Placed on white cushion is a blue crystal flower, in the same shade as the bottom part of her dress. Gently, she takes the flower, twirls it and turns back to him. With bated breath, Oscar watches how she places the flower in his breast pocket, adding the final touch. 

“There, now we’re both ready.” Her hands slide over his chest, smoothing out the suit, despite no wrinkles being present. He lets it happen, a last moment of peace before the busy evening starts. 

“My goodness, you two are just too sweet. Ahh… young love”, simpers one of the women and Oscar just smiles. 

Yes, young love. But he never wants it to end.

Emma turns, and catches a glimpse of the blue-black dress. 

“Stop, stop”, she gasps and Sabrina chuckles. “My God, you look like a beautiful fairy princess!” And the singer does. She’s seen a lot of outfits this evening already, some better than others, but Sabrina, in her personal opinion, managed to match the theme in her own style. She looks comfortable in the beautiful dress and it shows. 

“Thank you”, Sabrina says, but she immediately continues to ramble. It will never get better, interviewing superstars like this, especially not when she’s a big fan. 

“Oh my god, hi, hi, let me just give you this.” Emma takes the microphone one of the assistants hands her, watches how Sabrina settles next to her.

“You look unbelievable— Oh my god!” 

“She’s the prettiest girl on the carpet, isn’t she?”, drawls an Aussie accent and Emma gasps again. Oscar Piastri, she recognizes and is genuinely baffled at how nice he cleaned up. 

“No, no”, Sabrina tries to deny, but reaches her free hand out to draw Oscar next to her, who immediately comes up to her side. Emma silently asks for another microphone— this is it. The perfect moment. 

“You guys look like a prince and princess, my god, this just looks amazing!” Oscar mutters a thank you, both at the compliment and for giving him a microphone. 

“This looks familiar”, she says to Oscar and Sabrina giggles, immediately catching her drift. The suit Oscar wears does actually look familiar, she is very sure that he’s wearing that one Prada—

“Sabrina picked it, I have no hand in this”, he tells her and Emma jumps at it.

“So tell me, Oscar, Sabrina, what are you wearing? You guys are matching, which is just fabulous but I need to know!”

“Prada, 2012. The special Villains collection. This suit was actually worn by Willem Dafoe and I’m very honored to wear it.” Emma grins. 

“I knew this was familiar! Oscar, I have to say, it absolutely suits you, and the theme of course. That flower in your breast pocket, Swarovski?” 

“Yes, it is.” Sensing he won’t say more, something she already prepared for, Emma then turns towards Sabrina. 

“And you, Sabrina, darling, this beautiful dress, who are you wearing?”

“This is a custom Oscar de la renta— not my Oscar of course. But I am so lucky to wear this and…” 

The interview continues, mostly Emma talking with Sabrina, while Oscar just throws an odd comment here and there. The two are a good looking pair, very intune with each other and Emma sees how much they adore each other. Before she lets them off to other interviewers, she has to mention just one last thing. 

“Oscar, I just wanted to congratulate you on your latest race win! I’m not that into Formula One but from what I’ve gathered, it isn’t so usual for a young guy like you to immediately do so well. I can just hope it will go upwards, I think I can speak for everyone that we wish to see more iconic moments from you two”, she says while grinning widely. 

“As long McLaren continues to give me a solid car, I’ll do my best”, he promises her with a grin and she can’t help but laugh. 

“They will, don’t worry. And if not, Mark can always call up Christian”, Sabrina adds. Emma doesn’t understand it, but Oscar's grin widens at that, so she assumes it must be something hilarious. 

“Alright you two, I sadly have to let you go now… I hope you’ll enjoy the evening, stay so radiant, you look so beautiful together!” She watches how Oscar gently takes Sabrina’s hand, helps her with her heavy dress and guides her to the next station. Emma turns to the camera, as if talking to the viewers. 

“Do any of you know who Mark and Christian are?” She doesn’t expect an answer, but the assistant behind the camera gives it to her. 

“Mark is Oscar’s manager and is a former Red Bull driver, the team Christian is leading. Red Bull is a rival team of McLaren and a very good one on top of that.” Her eyes widen. No wonder Oscar thought Sabrina’s comment was hilarious. 

“Uhm, boss from McLaren, Oscar’s boss… I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean that. For sure.” She nods convincingly at the camera and then starts the next interview.

“Ahh, I didn’t know, I’ll have to find him later!”

She should go. Away. And leave them to their… make-out session at the freaking Met Gala, and maybe even ensure that no one else would come across them. 

Yeah, that’s what she’ll do.

“Did you have fun today?”, Sabrina asks into the room, whispering, as if she didn’t want to upset the comfortable silence that had settled beneath them. 

Oscar hums in his throat, keeping his eyes closed. “Yeah”, he mumbles after some seconds, snuggling closer and hiding his nose in Sabrina’s soft hair. His fingers glide over her warm skin, drawing mindless patterns, slower and slower as he slips into his sleep. 

“Yeah?” Her giggles shake her body, and he huffs at the disruption. “Yes, you minx ”, he grumbles and when she starts to protest, going on how she’s not one and definitely an angel— 

Oscar heaves himself up, trapping Sabrina beneath him. The sheets rumpled around them, her blond hair around her head like a glowing halo, his breath hitches. He lowers his head, gently capturing her lips with his. He didn't lie when he said he had enjoyed himself. He just didn't tell her he enjoyed his time at the gala because Sabrina had been there.

Oscar wakes up with Sabrina’s hair in his face. She’s draped across him, half of her body laying in his and her face squished against his shoulder. He puts his hand out, gently patting along the side of his bed until his fingers grasp his phone. Lifting his hand, he squints at the display, only to softly curse when he sees that it’s only seven in the morning. 

With a groan, Oscar lets his phone fall next to him again and closes his eyes. It’s really too early—

“Osc, baby?” Sabrina has lifted her head, looking incredibly sleepy. His stomach flutters at the pet name. 

“Go back to sleep”, he mutters, pressing a kiss on her cheek. She hums, and then whispers, “Only if you will as well.” 

“‘Course”, he whispers and is gifted a drowsy smile. His heart clenches at the soft moment, the feeling of warmth spreading. 

Instead of thinking too much about it, he wraps his arms around her. He’s truly a lucky man.

Oscar isn’t known for being an extrovert. He is confident, calm, an unassuming guy when not in his race car. He likes to let others talk, he likes to listen. Having enough life experience, he knows when to speak up and stand straight, but as of right now, he likes leaning back and let others talk for him— 

There is just no need to butt heads with stubborn people, especially when it’s revolving around his job. With what he has already delivered, he doesn’t have to fear to go jobless. And even if he would, there are enough alternatives. 

So. Oscar isn’t really outgoing, he doesn’t mind when others drag him outside. After being with Sabrina for some time now, they’ve already settled in their roles. She is outgoing, a clear extrovert, dragging him along and Oscar just follows, because why would he not? 

But with Sabrina gifting him a whole album for his birthday, he has to go all out. He really doesn’t want to hear any nagging that he’s not a good boyfriend, he was raised right after all. And he does know how to charm a woman, despite what most would think.

Personally, Stacy thinks that a music video with a boyfriend is never a good idea, but who is asking her? She’s just an intern after all, running around while Sabrina’s actual manager is busy with trying to talk the singer down from yet another stupid idea.

we then also thought that oscar would show up in espresso, but he hasn’t. and yet the rumors haven’t disappeared, which is why we now think that sabrina will release a new song soon and oscar will be in the video.

Oscar doesn’t actually hate Red Bull. The drink, of course, even if he’s currently despising the Formula One team and that’s just because they’re leading the championship and not… well him. 

But PR games will always stay games, and the PR department thought it a good idea to play up the rivalry between them and Monster, to make his whole gift to Sabrina more dramatic. 

Which— well. It was already hard enough to get Sabrina’s management to agree to the whole thing and even keep it a secret from her. He had to mention the advantages for their image to actually get them to agree, which is of course bullshit. It might be an added factor, but really. 

Oscar just wants to make Sabrina happy, and if it means to get her the Red Bull sponsorship… who is he to complain about a few more people to convince of his brilliant idea?

And it’s not wrong but not right either. Their marketing has been top notch for years now, taking a great risk compared to other drink companies. It paid off, of course, and now it’s their whole brand. Doing anything but properly promoting their energy drinks. 

Signing a freaking singer beneath the same sponsorship as their athletes is just another step stone in their marketing plan. Even if it’s actually one of said athletes trying to proclaim his love— Alex doesn’t really believe that.

Dove meets Sabrina’s boyfriend the first time at her birthday party. She heard from mutual friends how happy Sabrina is with him, and they even talked a few times about it. Still, actually meeting Sabrina’s great and big love—

She’ll be honest. She had been skeptical, when she swiped through his profiles. Sure, he had some great tweets, some good lines for his instagram captions but he just seemed so… dry. Dry and cold, and totally not fitting for Sabrina, not when compared to her ex boyfriends. 

But when she met him, he shook her hand with a small smile after Sabrina hugged her. Oscar had introduced himself, called himself a racer and then let Sabrina do all the talking. All while having a hand on her lower back, steady but not possessive.

Sabrina is not stupid. She knows Oscar planned something big for her birthday. He obviously hadn’t said anything, but the way he had been sometimes turning his screen away from her or mumbling that he had to catch a call… 

He’s next to her, when the cake gets brought in— the cursed cake. It’s a big square shaped one, and at first she doesn’t notice the decorations. But then she leans over to blow out the candles, she starts laughing. 

“You did not!”, she wheezes out, hands on her knees after she sees what’s exactly on the cake. A fucking Leonardo DiCaprio meme. 

“Oh my god”, Sabrina manages to get out, and then promptly loses it again, because Oscar imitates the actor and tells her and the whole room, with the most serious face, “Nooo… don’t turn 25, you're so sexy. Haha.” She’s not the only one laughing after that. 

She kisses him, a quick peck on the lips, and her shoulders still shaking with laughter.

“You do know that’s not actually my birthday gift for you, yeah?”, Oscar asks her and Sabrina really, really just wants to kiss him again. She doesn’t, mostly because everyone is watching them— but later, she tells herself. 

“So. Miami hot lap was your early gift, but this one”, he hands her a big white envelope, “this is the real one.” 

She doesn’t wait and opens the envelope with quick fingers, pulling out a few loose papers. A contract. Titled with ‘ Public Relations Services Agreement, Sabrina Carpenter and Company Red Bull (Draft) ’.

Sabrina stares at the contract, eyes skimming through the first page. Then she stares some more. 

“Oscar… how did you—?”

“Don’t tell Christian, but he helped a bit. And your team of course”, he starts to explain. Sabrina flicks her eyes up, immediately noticing that he’s nervously smiling at her, trying to gauge if she likes the gift. 

She fucking loves it.

“You’re insane”, she breathes out and then flips quickly through the remaining pages.

“I hope this is okay—”

“God, I love you so much”, Sabrina interrupts him, throwing her arms around him. “I love you so fucking much.” And then she kisses him senseless. Screw her friends and guests— she just got the best birthday gift ever.
