Chapter Text
The cool breeze from the air conditioned loft wafted into the hallway as Johnny Cage opened the white door open, his keys jiggling in it's lock as he pushed. Sonya stood behind him feeling restless after the long flight back from the East. Once inside Johnny noticed her absence and turned back to see her standing idle in the hallway.
“Come on.” He said encouragingly.
She took one step on the marble floor of the large penthouse and immediately felt like an outsider. Sonya Blade was no stranger to California, previously being stationed in the Sacramento Valley, but Los Angeles was something new altogether. It was loud, energetic , and artificial. And Johnny Cage’s apartment was no different. Its white and cold surfaces were surrounded by matching fluffy rugs, which she avoided with her muddy combat boots. Modern artwork was scattered about the room, along with posters of what Sonya recognized as B-list action films on walls. Some artificial movie props and weapons were also decorated throughout. Looking just manufactured as the bowl of fruit on some of the tables. Even his plants were plastic.
The sun was still bright in the cloudless sky. Sonya had to admit the warm and sunny weather was much needed after living in a dismal Outworld for the past few weeks. She wondered briefly if time worked differently compared to the other Realm. What did her team think of her extended absence?
How long was I gone for?
She turned to Johnny who had been collecting some blankets and pillows from a hall closet.
“Do you have a phone I could use?”
Johnny Cage was last in a lavish penthouse right before filming started on his latest movie. The movie was pushed back, allowing Johnny to enter in Shang Tsung’s Tournament. The studios were not happy. He knew his agent was already furious with him and could not imagine what she would do once he told her about his latest adventure.
He tried to picture it.
‘Hey Nancy, no no everything is fine. I won the tournament but I was taken hostage by some supernatural monsters not of this world. Some GOOD news though, I have new magic powers so… no special effects for me, I guess.’ What kind of PR move is that?
“Oh yeah that will go over really well.” He mumbled quietly.
In the end, he figured it was best to keep some things to himself.
Johnny put his hosting skills to work, bustling with some bedding and toiletries. Anything Sonya might need during her stay he had laid out. Sonya had left into the second bedroom with one of his cell phones, making calls in private. In passing, he picked up bits of her conversations just beyond the door. Words like “coordinates", "an island”, “Kano’s dead”, “on leave”, and a woman’s name was all he heard.
After making sure Sonya would have everything she needed he plopped down on his massive white couch. He loved the expensive piece of furniture but his ex wife, Cris, had not. Now it only reminded him of her. Cristina . The woman he married and brought along the Hollywood ride. Only she expected a life without his entourage and fans. Even his money didn't mean anything to her. She once told him she married John Carlton, not Johnny Cage. Cris wanted a husband. She wanted a life with him and kids, two boys and girl. The typical family picture. Unfortunately Johnny Cage only wanted his career. His whole life he was told he was only good at two things, fighting and acting. Movies were his life but after everything maybe there could be more…
The bedroom door slammed shut in anger, testing the hinges screwed to the wall. Johnny felt himself straighten up at attention. He heard a heavy sigh, followed by footsteps into the kitchen.
“So who’s Vera?” The action star inquired.
“Oh!” Sonya turned in surprise.“She’s Jax's Wife.”
“Jax is married, huh?” His voice cracked as memories of Cris threatened to creep back up.
“Yeah, about two years now.”Sonya explained. “She lives in Iowa. Jax makes time to see her when the forces allow but it's been hard. He didn’t mention her?” Johnny shook his head no. “I thought you said you two talked.”
“Yeah we spoke but I really didn’t hear much about his personal life.”
“Really?” She asked, making her way over to the massive sliding glass doors.
The view was breathtaking with blemish free sky and vast ocean below. She could make out some beach goers on the sandy ground below, looking like tiny ants. Across from her was a balcony with a pool, small but long enough for laps. She pressed a hand to the window, feeling the sun’s heat radiating through.
“What did you two even talk about then?”
“You mostly.”
Her head moved slightly, shyly glancing at the celebrity. Sonya wasn’t sure why but his words had butterflies fluttering in stomach. She looked away, unsure why she felt a warm blush creeping in her cheek and neck. The two of them had spent hours back at the temple and on the plane making conversation. Some things she withheld from Johnny him strictly of out of pride and confusion. Shang Tsung and the marriage was taking Sonya more time to process than she thought. The less she thought about him the less power their soul bond could have over her. But Johnny and Sonya had spent enough time together, digesting the whole journey, that she didn't feel uncomfortable around him. And though the action star could be aggravating at times, Sonya came to know him as an honest and trustworthy man. It was coming out slowly but it was there, deeply emended underneath a childish humor and expensive taste. So why was she feeling so different now?
Immediately Sonya moved away from him and towards the kitchen, itching to change the topic.
“Look I’ll get out of your hair. You gave me a lift and phone. I’m not asking for more.”
She leaned against the counter, looking as tired as she felt.
“You gotta get back to your… team?” Johnny tired to dredge up any army lingo that lingered in his memory from past war films.
“No, actually,” Her pouty lips formed into a frown. “I’ve been temporarily discharged while an investigation is performed on the entire mission.”
Johnny watched as the woman before him clenched her fists on his granite table top, fingers turning red. It looked as though she wanted to hit something. He hoped it wasn't him.
“Sonya, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t it’s not your fault- it's mine. I was too rash." Her head dropped, blonde hair cascading all around her. "I have no one to blame but myself.”
“Where will you go? Your place?”
“I was paying to live in a trailer back in Gary Indiana but stopped once I got a lead on the red dragon organization. I was traveling mostly. We followed Kano and his men which brought me to Shang Tsung’s boat and… well you know the rest.”
“Please stay here. It’s the least I can do-”
How was he going to finish that sentence? For failing to save you in Outworld? For not breaking out of that prison sooner? For killing Kano...?
“Don’t worry about me," She said. "I was thinking of going to Iowa. Stay with Jax and his wife for a bit . Keep an eye on him and to be frank-”
“I think I like you better as Sonya.” He interrupted jokingly.
Sonya looked back up at him, her stare cold. “I don't think it’s appropriate if I stayed here with you.”
Coed living accommodations was not the issue for the special forces agent. She was used to being surrounded by men, especially in the army. Close quarters with smelly soldiers and outdoors camping was the norm for someone like Sonya Blade. There was no funny business when it came to her team. They all respected her for the most part. However, being in L.A with Johnny Cage and his subtle flirtations was different. She wasnt' sure how to act around someone like him in this type of setting. If they weren't fighting monsters and sorcerers.... what would they be doing? And then there was the kiss. Sonya would never forget the way his arms tightened around his waist. Like it was the only time he would get the chance. The way his warm lips fit against hers perfectly in a slight tilt. She had enjoyed it.
“Nonsense!" Johnny's voice broke her out of her thoughts. "Look, you're already here. You may as well stay the night, get some rest, eat and then if you still feel like it you can hit the road tomorrow.”
She kept a skeptical eye on him, not entirely sold on his proposal. “Johnny…”
There’s a security code I can give you so you’ll be totally safe. Only I know the password so if you need anything I can be here in the blink of an eye!”
Arching her brow Sonya let out a light scoff, folding her arms across her chest.
“Buuut I would never do that unless you wanted me to because I know your a strong independent woman” He finished with an awkward smile.
Independent woman...
Suddenly her thoughts were flooded with Shang Tsung's hypnotic words.
"You’re tired of being alone, always on your guard. Just once you’d like to let your defenses down and give yourself totally and unconditionally to a man who is your equal."
The sorcerer's perception would haunt her until the day she die.
Johnny noticed Sonya's cold stare focused on the window behind him, her eyes becoming distant.
“I can stay at a hotel nearby. " He offered, hoping to get her attention once more. It worked as she looked back to him. "This place is yours.”
It was pointless to argue Sonya knew. A celebrity was used to getting their way and she had a feeling Johnny Cage was no different. The actor would simply press on and annoy her more if she didn’t give in. It would also be nice to shower and rid herself of everything that an transpired over the past weeks. She wanted to get rid of thoughts of Outworld for the time being. How nice it would be to cozy up in a soft normal bed and use a normal bathroom. To gaze out and see normal blues skies instead of a grayish red one.
It's harmless to stay one night.
Ultimately, it was a combination of fatigue and curiosity that had Sonya agree to the arrangement.
She sighed. “You win, Cage.”
Johnny Cage beamed, his smile rivaling the sun outside.
"I always do."

Chapter Text
Green spirits and mist twisted with the wind, all drifting towards Shang Tsung. The Kamidogu Daggers darted into the swirling entrance as he reached out his claw-like hands. The portal was sucking him in and Sonya felt the pull as well. She looked to her friends who watched in fear as she leaned towards him. There was a sharp pain in chest. The soul bond was commanding her to follow. The demon sorcerer’s expression was a smug one as the gateway began to swallow them. His outstretched hand managed to touch Sonya’s, fingertips lightly grazing one another.
“Come…” He beckoned, his voice as smooth as silk.
Her legs shook as she took his hand, the shouts from her companions a muffled ringing in her ears. Everything around her began to blur as she felt her knees give way, a suction bringing her into Shang Tsungs’ arms.
His lips were at her ear, kissing her skin. “Mine.”
A bright white light overtook them, blinding her as she shielded from its shine. Soon nothing remained in sight and Sonya could only feel hard and rippling arms encasing her. Arms belonging to the man who had stolen the daggers and would conquer the realms.
The howling wind and her friends' screams soon died and a chilling silence followed. The quiet and a warm embrace were the only things left to comfort Sonya Blade in the whiteness...
With a jolt, Sonya pushed back from the silky pillowcase. She sat up and looked around the space disoriented. Solid darkness filled the room and for a moment Sonya forgot where she was.
It was only a dream. A nightmare. Shang Tsung was dead.
She spared a quick glance at the clock beside the huge bed she laid in. It was 5 am. With a sigh, she collapsed back in the luxurious bed. As she sunk into the cushy mattress Sonya tried to decide her next move. With a stretch, she figured it was enough relaxation for one night and got up to explore the rest of Johnny’s penthouse. Starting with the bathroom connected to the guest room. Sonya walked into the pristine space and flicked it's light switch. Her eyes adjusted against the strong light as she looked into the mirror. Sonya was wearing an oversized t-shirt and pair of sweatpants that belonged to Johnny’s. He has mentioned coming back some more clothes the next time he saw her, in the meantime he had left out some of his own.
It’s ten times better than an Outworld gown. She thought with a smile.
Once she was done in the washroom she made her way to the living space, passing a collection trophies and awards along his wall. She stopped, taking her time to observed the achievements. Most of the statues were typical movie awards. The films awards were nothing prestigious but Sonya noticed some were actually martial arts trophies, karate and kickboxing. All varied in shapes in sizes. Sonya picked one up. It was small it but heavy. She found herself smiling at the idea of Johnny Cage competing in something so mundane compared to the tournament they had just gone through back on the island. Placing it back down on the shelve she walked over to the kitchen, in search for something to drink. There was some food in his cabinets and fridge but Sonya had no appetite after such a vivid steam.
It was as if she could feel Shang Tsung’s arms still holding her even after she woke.
She filled, then chugged, a glass of ice water and began to pace about. Sonya had to do something to drown out the feelings from her nightmare. Johnny had shown Sonya a tiny room with some gym equipment and she decided to unleash some frustration on a punching bag. After a few hours of athletic release, Sonya went back to the living room and onto the deck. The sun was slowly beginning to rise. She had missed Earth's skies and realized how much she had taken for granted after being kidnapped. The sky around her seemed to be all she had at the moment.
Sonya Blade was left with no job, no home, and no friends… except Johnny.
Deflated, she sat on a lounge chair and began to think about what role she played in this world now.
As Sonya stepped out from a long hot shower she heard a ringing from the bedroom. Grabbing a towel, she sped out and picked up the sleek black phone. It was Johnny Cage, he previously mentioned he would call her the next morning. Now the celebrity was back and downstairs. After a quick change into clothes, Sonya buzzed him up. A few moments later Johnny Cage appeared at the loft door, a bag of bagels and coffee in one hand, a bigger bag in the other. He looked just as clean as the first day she had met him on that dragon boat. freshly shaved and hair styled with gel. Dressed in a tight t-shirt that showcased his muscular structure.
“How are you feeling?” He asked as his eyes ran over her relaxed appearance.
Feeling warm under his gaze, Sonya ran a hand along her damp locks self consciously. “Nothing a warm shower couldn’t fix.”
It was a lie. There were so many things that the special forces agent was feeling- and the hottest water wouldn't be able to help.
“I know what you mean.” He agreed, unable to look away.
Johnny thought she was even more beautiful dressed down, a soft look that suited Sonya Blade. Just then a surge of possessiveness awoke within the actor at the sight of her in his old Nike shirt. He liked the idea of her only wearing his clothes, using his shower, accepting his gifts, sleeping in his bed…
Johnny tempered the feeling as he lifted the bag and coffee holder. “I brought coffee.”
Ushering Johnny in, Sonya followed him into the kitchen.
“I also went out and got some clothing and toiletries that you might need.” He added, tossing the shopping bag on top of the counter and handed her a coffee. Accepting the beverages, Sonya raised a brow in question. “Okay… I didn’t but my assistant did.”
“Thanks. You didn’t have to and I really appreciate it. I’m just happy to wear anything that's not leather.”
“Shame,” He said with a smile. “You looked really good in it.”
Sonya shook her head with a tiny chuckle. It was no surprise that Johnny Cage would like a girl in tight fitting clothing. Suddenly, he looked down in embarrassment.
“Sorry I didn’t-” Johnny tried to select his next set of words carefully. “I just meant… you’d look good in anything.”
Unable to suppress her growing smile, Sonya took a sip of the rich coffee. She was surprised, and pleased, to find it was black. It was just the way she liked it. As Sonya watched him unload the food, she wondered if Johnny took his the same way.
After the quiet breakfast, Sonya went to test out some of the outfits and products Johnny had brought. Inside the bedroom she inspected the new clothes. Johnny’s assistant had selected some different sizes of jeans, simple tops, sweats, workout clothes, even a bathing suit. Not a dress to be found, Sonya observed happily. She brushed out her now dry hair and slapped some fancy moisturizer on her face, curious to the results. After dressing into a pair of workout leggings and an oversized sweater, she walked out to face johnny.
The night before, Johnny checked into his hotel and made a call to his his assistant. He told them the kind of girl to shop for. A women who was athletic, low-key, adventurous, and no nonsense. Johnny mentally praised his employee for following through. Though the new clothes looked good on her, Johnny was mildly disappointed to find her already wearing them. He already missed the image of her in his clothes and wondered if his shirt still smelled like her.
“I have to run some errands but I’ll be back in a few hours, depending.” L.A traffic was just as bad as Outworld in Johnny's opinion. “You’re more than welcome to join me if you want.”
“I think I’ll pass. I need call and check in on Jax and Vera. I’ll just see you when you get back.”
A small look of shock flickered across Johnny's handsome features. “So you’re staying then?”
“If that's okay? I’m not really sure where I belong right now.” She said dejectedly.
With a huge smile, Johnny said nothing and nodded. There was no way he could hide his excitement. It was obvious how he felt about the set up.
“But it’s not permanent or anything.” Sonya added quickly.
“No.” His smile dimmed a little. “No, of course not. I mean why would you wanna hang out in my beautiful loft? Complete with new clothes, food, and pool. That’s just silly.”
Sonya simply rolled her eyes and Johnny walked over to her, handing her his phone.
“I’ll be back later then." He clasped the small device into her hands, his own lingering over hers in a personal manner. “We can grab some food and talk… maybe celebrate?”
Breaking the intimate moment, she slowly pulled her hand out of his.
“Celebrate ?”
“Well I did win a tournament and then we defeated a bunch of bad guys. In my movies that’s usually followed by a celebration.”
After Shang Tsung’s island, Johnny and Sonya were welcomed back to the Temple of the Order of Light with cheering crowds of children and monks. Soon a placid ceremony and small dinner followed. None of which was really a party by Johnny Cage’s standards.
“Fine.” She groaned. ”Just get outta here, Cage.”
With another movie star grin, Johnny made his way out. As he left he couldn’t help but notice Sonya that hadn’t called him “Johnny” since they left the Island. It bothered the actor and he vowed to do anything to rectify it.
“You’re WHAT ?”
The Shrill voice over the car phone was louder than anything on the highway Johnny Cage was currently riding on.
“I said I’m thinking of taking a break.” Johnny said, exasperated by having to repeat himself.
“No, Johnny, I heard you, I just can’t believe what I’m hearing!”
After some light shopping and business meetings John decided it was time to make the dreaded call to his agent about his next course of action. Him and Nancy had been arguing over the phone for about an hour. She next talked about the tournament but Johnny advised she could not have followed it as there was no press coverage due to some weird contract and litigation.
Most of what the actor said was a lie but there were still some seeds of the truth. He told her about how he won. How he met Liu and Sonya and then stayed a few days more to learn some fighting techniques from the monks at the temple. Johnny had said the phone service was bad over there and had no way to contact his agents and inform them of his new plans. There was no mentions of four armed monsters or psychopathic sorcerers.
The story was flimsy but Johnny Cage knew he had to say something. Screenwriting was never going to be his foret.
“So let me get this straight, you stayed back on some island with some bimbo to give yourself an impromptu vacation?”
“That’s only happened one time before.”
Johnny thought back. “Ninja Bodyguard II”. He had done it for the paycheck. It had been a fun trip but a bad movie. Soon tabloid stories came out about his affair with a Brazilian model he had met on location. They partied hard and to makes things worse- rumors from the same production came out that Johnny Cage was faking his stunts. The one thing he was known for. The thing that set him apart from other actors was now begin questioned.
His agent had said the bad press hurt his career. Over the next two years Johnny worked hard to repair his image and tried to select movies with a decent storyline and cast. It wasn't going the way he planned. His frustration with Hollywood was part of the reason he left for Shang Tsung's Island in the first place.
“Besides this is different.” He added.
“It’s never different with you, Johnny. You already delayed production on one movie and we’ve been in negotiations for another-”
“I’ll handle it.”
Johnny had another meeting of the day and figured he would break the news to the studio then.
“Look, I'm back from NYC in a week.” Her voice was calmer now. “We can talk then. Don't do anything rash until I’m back, ya got it?”
With a heavy sigh, Johnny backed down. “Alright, Nancy. I’ll postpone the meeting.”
“That’s all I ask.”
“ But I still wanna bring this up to the studio heads.”
“We‘ll talk to you tomorrow.” Was all she said and then the phone went dead.
Johnny Cage felt like pulling over and slamming his head against the steering wheel. That familiar rage from Outworld was swelling up within him once more. His blood genuinely felt like it was boiling. This was his career, he should be the one with final say. He needed to reign in his agent as well as his new powers.
Getting off an exit, Johnny aimed to find a grocery store. The loft had been there for almost months now and he wanted to make sure Sonya was well stocked. Normally he would send people to do this, but after the disastrous phone call Johnny Cage was determined to distance himself from his celebrity persona.
I can be more than that. I am more than that.
He decided he would start the process by getting the woman back at his penthouse everything she deserved. Johnny won Mortal Kombat, gained new powers, and saved the world. A dinner date was something he could definitely handle.

Chapter Text
Sonya’s toes dipped in the crystal blue water of Johnny's pool as she looked out towards the orange sky. She had stepped out on the deck after speaking on the phone with her partner. Sonya was beginning to feel like her old self with Jax. Hearing his voice made her feel normal again.
“Jax, this is all my fault.”
“Don’t say that. It was my decision to come back for you. You would have done the same.”
The strain in his voice was unmistakable, he was in a bad way. But at least he was alive. Despite everything that happened, the two agents had come out victorious. Unlike their other missions however, this one had lasting effects.
Together the two talked through their final experiences in detail. Jax told her it was harder for him to remember things towards the end in Outworld. It had mostly been a blur for him. Sonya was gratful he didn't remember the painful details so it feel on her to informed him of the events with Shao Kahn. Leaving out some personal details of the past weeks, Sonya confided in her partner about Shang Tsung.
The marriage. The daggers. His betrayal.
She kept things simple, figuring there was no reason to drag Jax any further into her own deal with the sorcerer. And the complications that came with it. She wasn't sure how her partner would feel if he knew everything she had done. Jax already had a lot on his plate, recovering and dealing with doctors. He couldn't be on the phone for too long and Vera eventually took over, extending an invite to Sonya once the medical team cleared.
“I can set up a room for you,” Vera’s kind voice was clear over the phone. “You’re always welcome here, you know that.”
No words could do justice for what she wanted to say to Vera Briggs. Sonya still felt the weight of responsibility for her husband’s wounds and yet Vera was still so compassionate with her unmatched hospitality. It reminded her of another acquaintance back in Outworld. A woman who was not only a formidable warrior but a good friend. Sheeva . Sonya wondered what the Shokan was doing now. She immediately clamped down on those thoughts. Thinking of Outworld could lead to dangerous things…
For a brief moment Shang Tsung's hypnotic eyes flashed in her mind.
To rid herself of unwanted thoughts, Sonya journeyed once more around Johnny’s loft. She explored his closets and bookcases, even managing to find a book to read for a few hours and successfully distract herself. It was a crime novel, her favorite genre. Sonya soon called it quits, tossing the book aside and retreating outside. It was golden hour. The sun soaked into her fair skin, its warmth soothing her in a gratifying way. She took a seat on the edge of the tiled pool, her bare feet lazily drawing circles in the water. She thought about plunging in the pool’s cool depth but the setting sun reminded her of Johnny's pending return.
To her surprise, Sonya was excited to see him again.
The loft’s living area was surprisingly dim, Johnny Cage noticed, as pushed past the modern door. He was juggling a few bags of groceries in both hands and managed to set them on the floor, fumbling to find a light switch.
Just then a figure had leaped out of the shadows and swiftly delivered a kick to his gut. As Johnny toppled over he felt a pair of legs wrapped around his waist, bringing him to the ground. A body landed forcefully on top of the actor as he managed to catch an oncoming fist directly at his face. Sonya Blade was now looking down over him, her beautiful brow screwed in concentration. His hand let go of her fist and Sonya realized who she had tackled.
“Woah woah. It's just me.” Johnny rasped as Sonya's thighs gripped tightly on either side of him.
He realized he had been holding his breath.
“I thought you would use the intercom or call.”
“I forgot.”
He could feel Sonya relax on his body, but remained perched upon his chest. Johnny was grateful she wasn’t any lower as his pants soon became uncomfortably tighter as her hips pressed against his. Her blonde locks dangled just above his nose, her natural fragrance teasing his senses.
“Not that I’m complaining, but is this usually how you greet your friends?” He asked.
After being cooped up inside his apartment Sonya was happy for the brief moment of excitement and his presence . There were only so many phone calls, books, and trips to the gym that would keep her sanity from falling apart.
She adjusted a little as her heart became steady again.
Johnny felt the urge to place his hands on hips, purely out of instinct. The last time he had been in a position like this the circumstances were very different. With difficult restraint, he kept his hand out and away.
“Can't be too careful.” Sonya advised with a huff, blowing back some hair that had fallen down her face.
“For the record you only got the jump on me due to an element of surprise.”
“You think you could have beaten me?”
“Oh I would have had you.” He said with a grin.“You're just lucky I didn't use my powers on you.”
She raised a blonde brow. “You're lucky I didn’t use mine. ”
The electricity in the room was practically vibrating as their chests rose and fell. The combined heat and magical aura between the pair made the room almost suffocating. With a deep breath, Sonya removed herself off Johnny and offered a hand. With a small groan he accepted it and allowed himself to be helped up.
“How’s Jax doing?” He asked, making his way over to the kitchen.
“He’s resting. Vera’s got him practically strapped to their bed back in Iowa and the Special Forces medical unit has been making house calls. He’s recovering... but it’s hard.”
Sonya’s brow was furrowed and frown graced her lips. Thinking about Jax’s healing process stirred up the traumatic sensation of seeing his injuries for the first time.
“Thank god.” He said, letting out a sigh of relief.
Sonya noticed the genuine gratitude in voice as she went to help him with the other groceries. It touched her that someone like Johnny Cage, who only knew Jax a few days, was so concerned for his well being. When she first met Johnny she always assumed him to be another egocentric celebrity. Now, the beginnings of another side was creeping out. A man who put the lives of others before his own. A man who cared.
“So what’s the plan for dinner?” She asked, looking inside a brown bag.
After a day of idly passing the time with small tasks, Sonya hadn't eaten much since breakfast and her stomach was beginning to feel the hunger pains.
“Actually I made a reservation at this great place. They know me.” Johnny bragged. “Got my own secluded section with an ocean view and everything.”
Sonya was surprised at the mention of privacy. She assumed Johnny Cage would have liked the attention- to be seen and admired.
After a moment of hesitation she spoke. “I’m more of a pizza and Chinese food kind of gal. Hell, I usually eat most meals out of the can.”
She knew going out with a famous person would definitely cause a spectacle and Sonya was too exhausted to deal with a mass of strangers. She was content to eat then curl up on the couch. Even one so extravagant as Johnny Cage’s.
“Oh.” Johnny said with a slight pout. “I was thinking of something kind of fancy. I haven’t really had a decent meal since the tournament.”
“It’s not really my scene.” She said resolutely.
“Aww come on.”
“Either we stay in with some greasy food or starve, cause there’s no way I’m going to a crowded restaurant for dinner.”
Though they were at odds, Johnny found the headbutting delightfully entertaining and oddly comforting. It reminded him of the days before the Outworld debacle. He liked her stubbornness. It matched his own.
“How about we stay in with a fancy dinner?” He proposed. “A win win for everyone.”
A happy compromise. Sonya mused with a slight smile.
“Okay.” She said, “But you're cooking.”
“Oh of course.” Johnny laughed. “I wasn't gonna let you anyway near my kitchen.”
“Tada!” Johnny said triumphantly, as he carried a plate with two steaks.
The elaborate dinner he worked on looked laborious but the way Johnny carried himself made it all seem effortless. She marveled at the way he had moved around the kitchen. Flipping back and forth between sauteing veggies and grilling the meat.
Carrying a large decanter, he walked over to the table and filled a large wine glass before Sonya. In the blink of an eye all the food was displayed across the table. Bowls with potatoes and vegetables filled and steaming. Finally he placed a plate with large steak before the special forces agent. Johnny watched as she cut deeply into the meat and popped a slice into her mouth.
“I know. It’s not dried blood worms but…” Johnny joked.
“No,” Sonya paused, savoring the steaks' rich flavor. “It's better.”
Sonya smiled and thought back to the Outworld meals. Yes, she had enjoyed the strange food provided during the tournament and in Shao’s castle. The weird meat did nothing to intimidate the seasoned officer. Clearly it did not go unnoticed by the actor. She had devoured the rest of his plate when he offered. Though she liked the exotic feast's food, Sonya was thankful for the normalcy of a dinner like this.
“I still can't believe you made all this.” She said cutting another piece of steak.
It was perfect
“Yup and in record time.” He shot her a wink. "I haven't had a chance to use this kitchen. It's been a while since I stayed here between filming and traveling."
With his own plate, Johnny took a seat directly next to her. Sonya tensed for a moment, surprised at his sudden closeness. It was a large glass table and Sonya assumed he would sit across at the far end. Instead he chose the closer seat at the corner. It all felt very bizarrely familiar, like they had been doing it for years.
After a moment of digging into some of the potatoes she looked up to see Johnny staring her. She had seen that type of gaze before, in Shang Tsung's eyes, but this look had less of an edge to it. There was something akin to affection in the look. An endearing look of awe. Or love...
No, that's crazy . He hardly knows me. She thought, averting her eyes and taking a sip of the bodied wine. Johnny noticed her weird demeanor.
"What?" He asked.
"I'm just surprised you cook your own food."
"You think I'd have a personal chef or something?"
She shrugged. "Kind of."
Johnny just chuckled lightly.
"Really? No butlers or maids?"
"Nope..." He said proudly. "I mean a housekeeper every now and then but nothing crazy. You really thought I would have servants?"
"Well you do have your own jet."
He shook his head, picking up his wine glass. "Borrowed from a friend."
"Anyone I know?"
He smiled. "Famously."
The action star did not elaborate but Sonya's mind raced, every Hollywood actor and singer coming to mind.
"Usually it's just me cooking for one. Or for my assistant or agent if they're around. I like to cook."
"Sounds lonely."
The actor paused. "Yeah, it can be."
The two continued their meal, occasionally commenting on Johnny's recipe or their food preferences. The meat was cooked to perfection. Medium rare and tender. Halfway through finishing his steak, Johnny turned back to Sonya.
“So once dinner is over I figured I’ll head out and let you get some more rest. Whatever you want.”
“Oh.” Was all she could say.
The suggestion wasn’t the one Sonya expected from Johnny Cage. She assumed he would offer to stay with her the rest of the night. Perhaps in hopes of showing off more of his material possessions or boasting about his silly trophies for hours on end. Overall she had thought Johnny would be angling to see more of her in general. Instead he was distancing himself. Giving her space. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that. Left alone with only her conflicted thoughts and her dreams.
“I’m not that tired... you should stay,” She offered.
“Really?” Johnny almost choked on his steak. “I just figured you would be exhausted. Saving the world will do that to you. It’s definitely harder work than the movies.”
Sonya smiled at his remark. He was always trying to entertain, even if it was just for a crowd of one.
“I'd like the company. Besides I got a lot of rest last night. Time definitely worked differently in Outworld.” She added humorously. “Some days I couldn’t even tell what day it was.”
“I’m used to weird sleeping hours... what I’m not use to is being imprisoned. We’re talking no showers for days on end. Sleeping on the floor of a jail cell. Not to mention once we were free, it was non stop fighting and traveling by way of thunder god.” He groaned, rolling his shoulders. “My body hates me right now.”
Sonya felt the corners of her mouth turn up. It felt good to share in the strangeness of their adventures. However, much like with Jax, she felt a pang of sympathy for the actor. He had to endure worse conditions than she did in Outworld.
“Well it could have been worse.” Sonya finally said.
“Yeah?” Johnny leaned back in chair and took a sip of the red. “How so?”
“You could have been married off to a crazy warlock or stabbed in the back. Literally .”
Johnny chuckled at her remark. It was a deep vibrant sound that Sonya felt in her own chest. She wasn't sure if it was the alcohol or his contagious energy but it filled her chest with pride to make him laugh. Even if it was at her own expense. It didn’t last long as she saw the joy drain quickly from Johnny's face, as if he remembered something.
Her words reminded Johnny of Kanos' attack on Sonya. He could still picture it in his head. Kano. The blood. Sonya's beautiful face pained and shocked. Kano, the man he killed. Death was too good for a man like that. He would have to tell her what happened in the lab. Johnny could feel his insides twist at the thought of it. Would she hate him? Hate him for taking away the one man she came to the Island for?
The joke also forced Johnny to think of Shang Tsung and their marriage. There was so much he wanted to ask her. And so much he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear.
“Sorry, bad joke.” She added quickly, hoping to erase some of the damage done.
“No it’s not that. I’ll just be happy to never step foot back in Outworld.”
He could feel the electric wave of heat building inside of him at the thought of her with Shang Tsung. The new magically a part of him seemed to affect his emotions heavily. There was a possessiveness over Sonya that Johnny found hard to suppress. It was like he was a 12 year old boy again trying to get his hormones under control. He downed the rest of his wine.
“I’m just happy you’re safe.” He said after finishing.
With a small smile, Sonya grabbed the bottle and refilled his glass and topped hers off. “Me too.”
There was an awkward pause and the pair finished their rest of the meal in silence, clinking of the silverware the only sound echoing in the room.
“Sonya,” Johnny began, his voice was rough. “What really happened?”
Sonya looked at the action star with an expression of shock. His bluntness had taken her by surprised her. No hint of sarcasm or wit to be heard in his voice. The dark blue eyes belonging to the actor conveyed so many things.
Concernment. Curiosity. Fear.
“You mean with Shang Tsung.” She said knowingly, loathed to even say his name. Sheepishly, Johnny nodded. “I think we might need something stronger than wine.”
The smooth whiskey passed down Sonya’s throat, warming her chest as she looked out to the serene night sky view.
“I’m more of a scotch guy I’ll admit but I’ve been known to enjoy a good Manhattan” Johnny said, watching her taste the drink he had made.
The two had moved from the kitchen and into the living room. Sonya took a seat on the couch curling up against the large cushy pillows that decorated it. Johnny had fixed them two cocktails and began to light a fire. Sonya had asked if he needed help starting it to which Johnny simply responded by bringing out a remote. With one click, a roaring fire was born before the two.
“Best investment I ever made.” Johnny declared with a smirk and flipped the device in his hand.
Sonya let out a small chuckle and lifted the cocktail glass. “I can't believe I’ve never tried one of these.”
Johnny made his way over to the other side of the couch, keeping himself at arms length of the special forces agent. He wanted to keep himself in check, struggling with two things that were hijacking his emotions: alcohol and his new powers. There was nothing to be done about the awkward stiffness in his pants so he just shifted gently on the couch, placing a pillow carefully in front of crotch just in case. Johnny hoped she would notice his tenseness.
“Why don’t we watch a movie or something.” Sonya suggested.
“No way. Not until we talk about Outworld.”
She pursed her lips. “I’m not sure where to start.”
“Let’s start after the prison cells- before the prison break.”
“Everything in between then?” She looked towards the fire as words rushed from her mouth. ”Uh I ran into Kano got him imprisoned. Learned about the daggers. I got married. You escaped. I got stabbed then healed. Later the merger started which led to an all out war…”
“Woah woah. Slow down. So you did it?” Sonya’s head whipped back to Johnny.“You actually married that guy?”
“I don’t think that's the most important thing that happened." She said coldy. "I mean we almost died. We have these strange powers-”
“Did he touch you?” He couldn't help the words that slipped from his lips.
“Oh my god.”
“I’m sorry I just-”
“How is any of that relevant?”
Johnny ran a hand over his face, regretting the conversation from taking this turn. “I just promised myself I wasn’t gonna let anything happen to you and-”
“Look I don’t need you protecting me all the time.” Sonya's voice came out harsher than she intended. Johnny looked just as frustrated as she felt.
She took a deep breath and started again. “I can handle myself.”
“I know, I know. You trust no one, work alone, yadda yadda.”
She glared at him and his snippy tone. Seeing her disgruntled expression, his face softened.
“You can take care of yourself. I get it. That's what I like about you” He smiled, more to himself. “I just wanna be around when you do. Maybe chip in from time to time.”
With a heavy Sonya inched to the edge of the couch and took a large sip of the heady drink, liquid fueling her next set of words.
“I know there are going to be days when I’ll need help.” She confessed. ”And I want you to know… I'm glad to have someone like you in my life.”
Johnny couldn’t believe it- she wanted him in her life? It was the most vulnerable thing he’d ever heard from the ice queen. He watched as she looked back towards the fire, taking another drink as she did. Reaching out, he lightly touched her shoulder. There was a tiny flinch but Sonya didn’t entirely pull away.
“I swear if he hurt you in any way-”
“You’ll what?” She asked, genuinely curious and moved back to face him. “What would you do?”
Removing his hand, Johnny let out a light airy laugh. “If the guy wasn't already dead I’d be testing out these new powers on him, that's for damn sure.”
She scooted towards him. They were close now, Johnny could feel the heat radiate from her body. Feeling bold, she reached out and placed a hand over hers. His eyes drifted to the touching skin.
“He didn’t hurt me… he actually saved my life.” She then removed her hand but stayed close. It suddenly felt wrong to be touching Johnny Cage and while talking about Shang Tsung.
The fist around Johnny’s glass clenched angrily at the thought of the warlock. “After you were stabbed?”
She nodded.
“I don’t remember any of it. I'm pretty sure why I healed so fast was due to a combination of his healing methods and my new powers. I think that’s part of the ascension. We gain new abilities and recover quickly.”
“Ascension .” Johnny tested the word on his lips. ”What else did he tell you about?”
“The daggers and the prophecy. He told me he was collecting them to hide them from Shao Kahn. I thought we were working against the court to stop the merger. Turns out he just wanted to wipe out everyone and rebuild the realms.” She shook her head, feeling weak for letting his scheme get that far. “I’m such an idiot.”
Johnny reached back out to her, hand landing on hers once more.
“Hey, he fooled everyone. Even Kitana’s twin was betrayed. Did you see the way she jumped at him? Trust me that was one scary chick."
Johnny then let out an exaggerated shudder and Sonya smiled, feeling the actor’s charm work its magic on her.
“I wonder where Mileena is now.” She wondered.
The clone had helped the special forces agent at one point and Sonya felt there was more to her than met the eye.
“I’m sure Liu and Kitana got it handled.” He looked sadly into his drink. “I really miss that guy.”
“Me too.”
There was another pause. Not an uncomfortable one, just a peaceful silence. Even the fire in front of the pair danced quietly thanks to gas technology.
“I really should have gotten a trophy.” Johnny said abruptly.
“What?”
“Or a pat on the back. Something .” He lamented.
Sonya rolled her eyes and let out an unlady-like snort. “Isn’t saving the world enough?”
“That's true. It's the only good thing to come out of all this. That and… meeting you.”
When Sonya's eyes met his to find a look of longing now shown in his gaze. She swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. An urge to lean in and find out if his kisses were still impeccable fluttered inside her. The way their mouths had fit so perfectly was something Sonya would never forget. A tingling sensation ran through her. Sonya had felt a simialr way before, back in Outworld. In bed with Shang Tsung.
She screwed her eyes shut, trying to rid herself of thoughts of the sorcerer once again. To her disappointment, when Sonya opened her eyes she found Johnny had been the one to pull back creating a tiny space between them.
“So how about that movie?” He asked, drawing in a shaky breath.
Pushing her shoulders back Sonya leaned against the couch. After finishing her drink she gave him a cheeky grin.
“As long as it’s not one of your movies.”

Chapter Text
Of course Johnny Cage wanted to watch an Action movie. Sonya thought.
It was the Special Forces agent's favorite genre when she did get a chance to watch a movie- which wasn't a lot. She’d even seen two of Johnny’s action films in the past. They were not very good but not so bad that she couldn’t sit through them. She had to admit he had the moves.
At first then Johnny had brought options for movies he originally suggested Romance, assuming most women would prefer that type of story.
No Romance. Sonya wasn’t sure what her body would do if she saw any kind of intimacy on screen. Especially when an attractive man like Johnny Cage was beside her.
The next option was Horror but both agreed they had seen enough outrageous bloodshed for a lifetime. That left Comedy or Action. Johnny was pulling for Jean Claude Van Dame flick while Sonya wasn’t entirely opposed to something funny. An Action film could only serve as a reminder of the excitement from the past few weeks. Just for one night, Sonya wanted to be reminded of anything but combat. Something funny could lighten the mood.
After some friendly debate, they settled on a superhero movie. A film with some lighthearted heroics but enough action to satisfy Johnny.
Preparing two more drinks, the Hollywood actor was back on the couch. Their shoulders lightly brushed one another as they settled in. Sonya could feel herself warming up, both physically and emotionally towards the actor’s charms. Johnny’s muscular arm was propped up behind her along the chair’s back. Unable to help herself she leaned against Johnny's strong body. If the action star felt any kind of way he didn’t show it.. The lights dimmed and he turned on the huge television in front of them.
The pair then settled in for a night with masked vigilantes.
On the wide screen a caped hero had just finished taking out a group of thugs and Johnny noticed Sonya was now fully pressed into his side, her blonde head tucked into the space below his neck. Neither of them said a word. It was going to be a long night for the actor. He was trying to be a perfect gentleman but her closeness was making that difficult. Already semi-hard Johnny adjusted on the couch as she settled in more.
They needed to move slowly. She had been through a lot.
They both had.
He wanted to move away but she seemed so relaxed and content. If using his body as a pillow provided that comfort to her then Johnny was happy to become a plushy object. Turning his attention back to the television, he willed his mind to only think about the hero in the film. Not the hero in his arms.
Sonya sighed, her one hand resting on his chest slightly. She was touching him. He wanted to touch her. Johnny’s arms made their way around her waist, gently holding her to him. His hands began making feather light motions up and down. It was soothing and lulled Sonya further into a tranquil state. It also had caused a tiny jolt of pleasure to her core.
Guess the genre of the movie didn’t help. She thought, accepting his embrace wholly.
For the first time since arriving back to Earthrealm, Sonya didn’t think about demon sorcerers, portals, or daggers. All she could think about was Johnny Cage's arm around her.
She liked it. Just how she liked his efforts to make feel at home, which was hard to do in such a luxurious space. She liked the way they took their coffee, black, and she liked his stare. The way he would keep looking at her even when she wasn’t looking back. She could feel his eyes on her and surprisingly she wasn’t bothered by it. She liked the way he gave her space . Almost too much. To a point where she missed him and his gaze.
But most importantly she missed his kiss.
He hadn’t made a move since they saved the world. Sonya wasn’t sure he ever would. Though she was enjoying his warmth and tender presence, she wanted more. She couldn't ignore the sensation his solid body and small touches provided. There was a need building inside her for something more invigorating. Something more gratifying.
More than halfway through the movie, She lifted her head.
It was now or never.
“Johnny.”
“Yeah?” He looked down, instantly entranced by her half lidded eyes. There was a hunger behind them.
“I’ve already seen this movie.”
Then, she pounced.
Johnny had not expected her to move so quickly and soon she was straggling his lap. He happily accepted her weight, his hands went to either side of her hips. Her mouth moved, landing on his in a bruising kiss. As she expected, they fit perfectly. Their lips and tongues moved in a sensual dance, tasting and nipping at one another. A hint of whiskey from their finished cocktails lingered.
Tracing the lines of her body, his hands moved to her neck, pulling back and playing with her hair.
He pulled back, a hoarse groan tore from his lips. “Sonya .”
Johnny was painfully stiff now, no longer paying attention to the movie. The only thing that captured Johnny’s attention was the statuesque blonde on top of him.
It was probably the only thing that would ever hold his attention ever again.
The smell of his expensive shampoo still lingered in her hair and Johnny felt that possessiveness overtake his body once more. He knew it was that supernatural force from Outworld that did it to him… it was also the woman on top of him. With other girls he’d been with he never felt this way but Sonya did something to him. Anytime around her the actor couldn’t help the creeping primal sense that swelled within him.
It was his shampoo she used. His clothes she wore. It was his house she slept in. His hands touching her. To think of anyone else doing the same… caressing her... kissing her. Smoothing back her blonde locks with one hand, he deepened their kiss and pushed the powerful thoughts away.
Sonya began to grind carefully as he gripped her bottom, her brow furrowed in concentration. It was seductive and erotic. Johnny watched her, spellbound, Their eyes locked for a moment before she moved back to mouth. Her hips dipped, finding a delicious hardness through his jeans.
His hands moved, trailing along her figure and indulging in the curves. Her hips, waist, and breasts, everything he longed to feel. The end of her sweater began to ride up, exposing her soft stomach. Every inch of her skin was his to explore and Sonya was more than happy to let him have his fill. His touch was strong and yet tender. The supernatural adrenaline from her ascension was running through her veins making her even more hot, intensifying their foreplay.
She wondered if he felt it as well.
They were both breathless now. Sonya's fingers fell to the hard pane of his chest, marveling at his toned abdomen. Of course his body was perfect. Years spent as a Hollywood idol - such things were expected. Urgently, his hands worked over her own body making Sonya realize he wanted to see more of hers as well. Leaning back she let Johnny pull her baggy sweater over her head and toss it to the side. Sonya made quick work of the sports bra, releasing her generous breasts. He leaned over and covered one exposed nipple with his mouth, while his other hand groped her other. His tongue swirled over her hard bud before pressing it against his teeth. Sharp tangs of pleasure ripped through her entire body.
With a grunt, Johnny hiked her up along his body. Her legs instinctively wrapped around his hips. Gone was the soft and tender Johnny Cage she had seen these past days, now he was replaced by a new dominant man. It was a side she had not seen since he told her about his plan to fight Goro. Sonya found this Johnny positively intriguing and exhilarating.
A moan escaped her throat and the sound went straight to Johnny’s cock. Clutching her flush against his chest, Johnny stood up taking the Special Forces agent with him. They walked to the hallway, tangled with one another. Their touching never stopped. Not even when they finally made it to the dark master bedroom. Hating the idea of any kind of distance, Johnny forced himself to lay her on the large bed.
He took her in. Bare chested, wild hair and all sexy smiles. She would be the death of him. Or at least the death of his self control. That gorgeous smile faltered for a moment and Johnny hoped she didn't regret everything so far. He wanted it so badly. Even since he met her... since he got to know her. The urge to reassure the Special Forces agent soon filled Johnny. He wanted sooth away her fears and say it was alright ... but that would be a lie. Not if Sonya didn’t want this.
The actor was so close to losing himself in her and if they were going to stop it had to be now. He paused, literally keeping himself at arm's length from the half naked woman in his bed.
“S-sonya,” He stuttered, letting out a shaky breath. “If you wanna st-”
The words were half way out the celebrity's mouth before Sonya fiercely yanked him back to her. Their mouths crashed back to one another. This time it was a hard kiss, one of pent up frustration, on both their ends.
That was the only green light Johnny needed before seizing his moment. As they kissed, he slid off her pants along with her underwear. Now fully naked, Sonya eagerly yanked him back up to her. When she pressed her soft curves into his hands, Johnny wondered at how perfectly she fit.
Ever since Sonya held a gun to him, he knew she was gonna be different. In Johnny’s experience, there was no one like her. Mean yet caring, beautiful both in looks and in spirit. She was even more so now. Eyes wide, mouth slightly parted, her body pliant under his.
Though they were embracing, Johnny still needed to hear her say it.
“This is what you want?” His thumb rolled over a nipple.
“Yes,” She moaned, arching into his touch. “Keep going.”
Suddenly he noticed how overdressed he was for the occasion and straightened up, riding himself off his shirt and pants and making his way down to Sonya.
Her hands explored his now exposed chest, running her fingers over his defined abs and chest. It was one of the best bodies Sonya had seen on a man. Perfected for both endurance as well as vanity. Broad shoulders, massive pecs, skin tanned from the L.A sun. He was so hard. He was hard everywhere . Her eyes deferred to his red swollen length, looking painful as he stood tall and stiff at attention.
Sonya was aroused, nervous, and happy all at the same time.
Fisting his hand in her blonde locks, he bent down to trail kisses along her breast and neck.
“God I want you.” He said, voice husky with his own need. “More than anything,”
Sonya let out a low laugh, her lips swollen from his efforts.
“More than a championship?” She teased.
With a half chuckle, half groan, he pressed his hardness against her.
“Let me show you how much,” Johnny smirked, “Put your hands on the headboard.”
Sonya raised her eyebrows in response. The arrogant demand did nothing to decrease her own need- if anything it had heightened it. Wrapping her fingers around the stylish wooden bars of his headboard, she obeyed his command and waited.
Johnny gripped her thighs, spreading them apart. Both legs were propped up on his shoulders. His eyes were a mixture of desire and affection as his nose went to her heat, nudging her bud he found there. A hum of pleasure came from above him and he continued to explore her center, his tongue delved in tasting her.
Already high on arousal, Sonya began to feel her body shiver even more. Adding his fingers to her clit, his tongue continued caressing her dripping opening. The teasing movement and friction was slow and deep, putting her on the edge. It wasn’t long before the pace picked up, rubbing in circles. Her butt lifted from the bed, arching up as the heavenly sensations grew. She could feel herself tightening around his tongue and fingers, her hips rocking up and down.
“Ah!” Her breathing picked up, becoming faster and heavier.
Johnny loved seeing Sonya's face contort with pleasure under his ministrations. All gleaming skin, cheeks flushed with arousal.
They could both tell she was close.
"Oh my god." She whined.
Instead of the peak she had been working towards, Sonya felt Johnny removing himself from legs. She wanted to smacking him for taking that away but then he was back up her body, his strength obvious as he positioned the two of them together. Flesh on flesh, his tip was pressing at her wet slit, covering himself with her juices. The heat in her body was rising with want. Sonya wasn’t above begging but remained quiet, ready to see what Johnny would do next. She pushed back against him, challenging him further.
Though he was enjoying the brief power over the Special Forces agent, Johnny could feel himself losing control. With a slight shift he slid his length inside, penetrating her outer walls. Johnny let out a hoarse groan, as he began a steady rhythm. Everything ceased to exist for the actor except for her warmth around his cock.
Fluttering her eyes shut, Sonya focused on him. Feeling him. Moving, Johnny began building her up once more. The pace slower, as if he was waiting for her to adjust to him.
He was trying to be gentle, she realized. But she needed more. She could handle it. Removed her hands from the board, Sonya opened her eyes. One hand gripped his neck.
“Faster,” She panted, her other hand giving his bicep a squeeze. "Please."
Their blue eyes found one another. In his, there was a combination of lust and something else. Sonya didn’t want to think about that look.
Their mouths connected once more as Johnny sped up, pressing down on her hard clit. Sweat began beading along their bodies.
"You're so perfect." Johnny hummed.
With the snaps of his hips, he thrust his cock deeper and harder than before. Sonya let out a sharp cry and clung to him tighter, her hips keeping pace with his.
"Yes!" She urged. "God more!"
“That’s it, baby.” He said, his voice filled with awe.
In the past, hearing a pet name like that would have Sonya retorting with a harsh insult but in this moment it only turned her on. Her mouth moved to his neck, kissing and nipping as he thrust into her, unable to help the sounds coming from her throat.
Sex like this was unlike anything Johnny had experienced before. He wasn’t sure if it was Sonya or the combination of his new powers flowing in his blood but the pleasurable sensations they were creating was like a drug. And Johnny was ready to become an addict.
The dark room filled with their grunts and moans, their bodies slapping together and they worked towards satisfaction. Johnny turned his head, capturing her mouth once more.
He needed to see her face again.
Grabbing Sonya’s waist, he pressed her into the bed driving further into her. The movement became relentless.
“Ahh!” She whimpered, her voice a hitch pitch sound. “Johnny!”
Sonya squeezed her eyes shut, biting her lower lip as she came. The climax hit her in sharp spikes, tingling throughout her body.
Watching the beautiful blonde come undone pushed Johnny over the edge. Between his name on her lips and her expression, he lost it. He felt her squeeze around him, milking him. Burying his face into her hair he spilled inside her velvet walls.
She could feel him shoot deep inside her, warm and hot. Her body, still in shock from the mind numbing pleasure, left Sonya too tired to say or do anything. Instead she just lay against his rich sheets, feeling relaxed and satisfied.
Riding out the waves of pleasure, Johnny held on to her hips tightly, almost bruising them as he did. Finally, he felt himself collapsing on top of her for a moment. Her body was lax under him as he rolled over, catching his breath.
They both came down and his eyes moved to Sonya, her perfect breasts rising and falling in the moonlight. Looking away towards the ceiling, Johnny willed himself to not get hard again.
Unable to help herself, Sonya let out a small laugh. It was more to herself, still in disbelief at how good it all felt. Their coupling was such a rush and she was sorry it was already over.
Lt. Sonya Blade had just had sex with a famous movie star, something she never imagined she would do in a million years. But she was learning that Johnny was different.
Rolling her shoulders, Sonya felt the life coming back to her. She wondered if her body would be eager to go again once it recovered.
The man beside her joined in, also letting out a hoarse chuckle.
“What?” She asked, looking over to him.
He looked back at her, a shy smile on his face.
“You called me Johnny.”
“Yeah… " Sonya couldn't help but return the grin. "Yeah I did.”

Chapter Text
A thin line of sunshine peaked out from between Johnny's curtains rousing Sonya Blade from a dreamless sleep. There was a delicious ache through her limbs that served as a reminder of the night before. Savoring the smooth sheets along her naked skin, she turned over to find Johnny gone. Her mind drifted back to the last time she woke in a luxurious bed, in Outworld. Only this time the man she had spent the night with did what she expected. He left.
The rich smell of coffee met Sonya's senses as opened her eyes. After a quick trip to the bathroom, to steal a fuzzy robe and refresh her face, Sonya made her way out of the bedroom. Curiosity got the best of her and she followed the delicious aroma into the kitchen. She watched with tired eyes as a man was busy working attentively at the stove.
Johnny Cage hadn't left after all.
Sonya stood in disbelief as the actor lightly hummed to himself as smoke from the pan he held danced over his head. Though she was enjoying the sounds of the actor’s off key singing, along with a nice view of his taut butt, Sonya eventually cleared her throat. The action star whirled around, almost dropping the pan in his hand. Recovering with a slight smile, Johnny placed the food back on the stove.
“H-hey.” He stuttered.
“Hey.” Sonya took a seat at the counter.
Johnny went to turn off the burner. “Sorry didn’t mean to wake you.”
“Such a gentleman.”
Her tone was dry but there was a curious jolliness in it that Johnny had never really heard before. He hoped to hear it again.
“How did you sleep?” He asked.
No nightmares. She thought with contentment.
Sonya hadn't dreamed at all. No dreams of Jax's near death, monsters, the tournament... of Shang Tsung.
"I slept like a baby."
"Really?" Johnny said, leaving over to grab the coffee pot. He poured two mugs of the java and handed one to Sonya.
"For the first time in a while." She added shyly, taking the mug and sitting down at the high island.
"Me too." A faint blush crept into his cheeks. "Last night was... uh.. amazing."
Sonya was actually shocked by his quiet manners. No witty quips or sly comments about the sex. Just a simple honesty that Sonya was starting to get acquainted with. She had seen bits of it ever since staying at his place.
Accepting his bold compliment, she went back to taste the dark coffee. As she sipped, Sonya also drank Johnny in. His sandy blonde hair was still damp, seemingly from a fresh shower. The muscles in his board back and shoulders worked under a grey t-shirt he faced away cleaning some things. As she stared, memories from last night came her to. How his hard body felt under her hands that night. Her chest and cheeks warmed, getting hot at her erotic thoughts.
The movie star looked strangely at home working in the kitchen and Sonya wondered if this is what came with living with someone. Not a roommate exactly… but something more. And with Johnny Cage of all people. The entire situation was not terribly unpleasant- she would have never fathomed it.
A few minutes passed. Unsure of what to say next, she eventually decided to change the subject.
"So what are you making?"
"Oh," He turned his attention back to the pan. "My world famous omelets."
"World famous?"
"Maybe I should say well reviewed… at least I think so." He said with a cheeky smile.
There was that Johnny Cage attitude she had gotten familiar with.
In truth, nothing had really changed. The man before her was still that mouthy celebrity she made on the Island. Still one of the most attractive men she had ever seen. He was a morally good guy when it came to the right things, even though he could be annoying and crass at times. He was a good man. They saved the world together. And last night only proved what she always suspected- Johnny Cage was an amazing lover.
After fixing her a plate of fruit and eggs, he moved to the table. Presenting the dish in front of her, he boldly pressed a small kiss to the side of her neck. She felt a shiver along her skin and a twinge between her thighs. She suppressed that hunger and focused on satisfying a more conventional appetite.
The omelet confirmed another thing. He truly was an amazing chef- in addition to being an incredible lover.
Princess Kitana’s chambers were quiet and warm, illuminated by a mass of candles and torches. She welcomed the peacefulness. A relaxing change to the hectic politics around her. Her coronation was rapidly approaching and there was so much she was doing in such a short time. Tradition called for the new ruler to transition into the Kahn’s quarters, but Kitana found she could not leave her former bedroom just yet. Everything was happening so quickly and she found sanctuary in her old chambers.
Once they defeated Shao Kahn, she had appointed Sheeva as her head of military division. Together they had imprisoned any and all of the former Kahn’s officials and soldiers and released those that bent the knee to Kitana. It had been a grueling process but the Princess loved the act of freeing her people after years of oppression. Still all was not settled, there was one they had not caught yet. Her clone, Mileena, was on the loose and Sheeva and herself had not made progress in locating her.
Enjoying the comfort of a silk robe, as opposed to her binding combat attire, Kitana changed and sat at the mirror that once belonged to her mother. As she undid her long dark braid, Kitana thought back to the former queen and tried to bring up a happy memory. Sometimes it was hard to recall anything before Shao Kahn but there were some. Foggy images but some strong enough to remember a kind and gentle smile as her mother would look down at her little girl. The princess could see her mother’s long black hair whipping around in the sunshine as the two ran in the green and plentiful fields of Edenia.
Just then the sound of doors opening and footsteps reached Kitana’s ears and she turned to face her guest. She smiled at the handsome fighter standing in the door’s archway.
Her chosen one.
“You know… an uninvited guest in a ruler's chambers is frowned upon in Outworld.” She advised, her voice low in the quiet room. “It could result in a death sentence.“
“In Earthrealmer as well.” Liu Kang agreed, as the large doors shut behind him.
“Men have lost their lives for much less.”
There was a playful tone in her voice that drew him to the beautiful royal.
“It is a good thing I was invited.” He said, returning her smile and approaching her.
Liu Kang’s strong hands soon found hers, folding perfectly with her dainty ones. The chosen looked down to where they joined, marveling at how well they fit. A simple act of holding hands reminded him that fate had led them here. Two people from two completely different universes meant to find one another.
“You were quiet during the council meeting,” Kitana observed, her cheerful look faltering.
Tightening her grip on his hand, she pulled him with her to sit on a chastise. His quietness unnerved her. She hoped it wasn’t their strange customs of their land that made him that way. Their world needed a leader and Kitana was set in her ways to rebuild her home as queen, but she wanted Liu with her as she did. There was a heaviness in her chest at the thought of him going back to Earthrealm. Kitana was unsure if she could handle his absence so soon. His presence served as a reminder of what they could do together. The goodness they brought by working together.
“Does something concern you?” She asked.
Recently, a gathering of trusted men and women was formed to induct the Earthrealmer into the Outworld world of politics. As the meeting went on Liu Kang became enamored with how the Princess commanded the room. If he was quiet it was because he watched in awe as Kitana instructed her newly appointed councilmen on new policies and producers for the kingdom.
“Sometimes my words fail me around you,” Liu said finally.
It had meant to sound flirtatious, but came out earnestly. Liu Kang had never mastered the art of seduction, the statement was much like him. Simple and authentic.
“I thought you may have lost interest in staying in this realm…” The confident tone of her voice was replaced by uncertain waver that Liu Kang had not heard before.
As she spoke, Kitana began to look away but Liu would not have that. Using his free hand he gently picked her chin up to look at him. Brown almond shaped eyes instantly connected with his and for a moment he could feel all the air go from his lungs at her expression. Lush lips parted and her glassy orbs were filled with tenderness.
“I could never lose interest in anything involving you.” He told her.
A small sigh of relief escaped Kitana as she cupped Liu’s face.
“My Chosen one.” She breathed.
It was Liu Kang who was the one to close the space between them, bringing her full lips to his in a passionate kiss.
As their mouths pressed together, Kitana felt contentment in this world for the first time in ages. This distorted world that was once the beautiful Ediena now felt more like home than it ever had been. In the powerful arms of Liu Kang, she felt safe and cared for.
Those arms now wrapped tightly around her body, pressing her silk clad bosom against his muscular chest. She could feel the heat in her lower stomach swirl as arousal took over. His lips angled, slotting perfectly against hers as their kisses deepened. She heard a groan deep from Liu Kang’s chest as he devoured her. It was the best sound she had ever heard. To her dismay his noises was soon drowned out by a knock at the door.
“Princess Kitana,” A deep voice rang from behind the entrances. It was one of her guards. “A councilman to see you.”
“Yes, you may send him in.”
With a heavy sigh Kitana pulled away from Liu, giving him an apologetic look. Both of their attention turned towards the door as Rain entered.
There was an issue the Princess was putting off for weeks since preparing for the Kahn mantle. Rain was the only councilman to survive the transition of leaders since the battle had ended. The reason Ktiana kept him on her board was to gather any and all information that the former Kahn had. Kitana wanted to know all of his future devious plans for invasions that would never see the light of day under her watch. Her intention was to imprison Rain once she had those things and until then one guard was to keep watch and stay by his side. During all this, and to her surprise, Rain had made no moves to escape or retaliate. During the battle of the grand hall she had seen Rain working with her men, fighting against her step father’s army. And though her own council had advised against keeping him on board, something deep inside told Kitana that Rain would not make any bold moves as long as she reigned.
At least right away.
With a nod Kitana ordered the guard behind Rain to exit. The fighter’s typical mask was now off his face, revealing a chiseled tan skinned man. Liu Kang had not been familiar with the man, only seeing him in passing during battle as the walls were falling and then more recently at court meetings. The stranger's face was not entirely unkind but there was something mysterious about the way his eyes took in those around him. Always doubtful and untrusting. Especially towards the Chosen one.
“What are you doing here?” Liu asked, filled with suspicion.
“My presence was requested by the Princess herself.” Rain said, a hint of cockiness in his voice.
“What?” Liu Kang said, looking towards the woman beside him,
Rain ignored the Earthrelamer and only spoke to Kitana “You are a proven warrior. I did not think you needed yet another bodyguard.”
“I am not her-” The chosen was on his feet but soon brought back down to the chair by Kitana.
“Liu Kang… please.”
As he lowered back down to the seat, Ktiana stood up and walked over to Rain.
“Not here.” She said to him before looking back to Liu Kang. “Please wait for me here. I shall return.”
She sensed that Liu Kang wanted to protest but instead said nothing and remained seated. The hands that had been holding her were now fisted tightly by his side, as if inching to use them on Rain for other reasons.
Liu Kang watched as the pair left with her guards trailing a few feet behind the pair as they disappeared outside, the tall doors closing on him.
“So the boy warms your bed now?” Rain asked quietly. “ I thought the human was an appointed as a councilman no as whor-”
“You have no right to speak of who belongs in my bed.” Kitana snapped, her eyes flashing furiously at him.
Rain gave the princess a lopsided small smile. “Apologies,”
The pair made their way down the long castle hallway, three guards trailing a few feet behind them. There was an understanding between them and the princess. She was a known warrior in her own right and if any immediate action needed to be taken they knew she would be prepared. The grace they allowed between them and Rain was out of respect for her skills as a fighter.
She looked ahead once more, continuing the journey away from her bedroom.
“I am pleased that Kahn has requested my company,” He said. “What do you require of me?”
“I thought you should know that my father’s-” She had to stop herself. “That creature’s plans for any and all future mergers have been collected and were immediately destroyed.”
“That is excellent news.”
“But know this. If I should find that you have kept any secrets or any other documents pertaining to that of that former regime… you will be sent to a fate worse than death.”
“I understand.” He said stoically. “Is that all you require of me?”
The two had stopped walking, standing idly in the dim stoney hall. She stopped the protectors behind them halting as well.
“Yes… your usefulness at this time has run dry.” The bitterness she felt poured off her in waves. “And until you can prove yourself useful once more you shall be imprisoned.”
“Please, Kitana-” He started
Both were shocked that he had used her true name. Kitana stared at Rain slightly aghast. It was something they had not heard between them since they were children. It was unusual for her to hear him use her name now after years of formality.
Still taken aback she let him continue.
“You know me,” He said. “I can help you.”
Rain was older than Kitana by a few years. His parents had been on her fathers court, serving as faithful counselors. Years passed and she watched with pride as Rain grew up, training and becoming a powerful warrior. His looks evolved as well as he developed into one of the most handsome Edenians in the land. She had been by his side when his parents both died, offering comfort and strength when Rain felt he had none. Things turned dark when Kitana watched in horror when her home was conquered by Shao Kahn. Kitana watched in horror as her childhood friend Rain surrendered, joining the Shokan and his men.
“We grew up together...”
“And I looked up to you.” She said a slight chilliness in his voice.
After her mother died and their world was corrupted, the two only spoke in passing. Sometimes at a meeting if Kitana was needed but it was a rare occasion. Princess Kitana would never see her former friend the same way after his betrayal.
“No longer…I understand.” He said with a slight bow of his head. “I would never seek to ask for forgiveness for the things I have done. Only that you understand why…”
“I know why.” Kitana snapped, her royal confidence on full display.
“Do you?” It was bold to question the future Queen of the Realm but Rain was unable to help the words falling from his mouth. “I was a scared young fighter. Still green to the world of combat and politics. Should I have rebelled and died?”
“It would have been more honorable.”
“No, Princess. It would have been another forgotten death among our kind.”
“I would not have forgotten." Her voice almost came out a whisper. "I have not forgotten the deaths of those who were loyal.”
Shaking his head he spoke again.
“No, the only honorable choice was to live and fight.”
“So am I to believe that you were fighting for Edenia while working for that beast?”
“Yes.”
The word hung in the air for a few moments as Kitana searched his face. Those brown eyes that were unchanged from the boy she remembered from her youth. So many things were still the same about the man she once knew… but she could not forget the things he let pass under the old ruler's reign. The things he helped enforce.
Suddenly the hallway felt small as the two exchanged heated words. Kitana longed to be back in her room with Liu Kang. In his arms, feeling his strength all around her. She needed some of it.
“You are no longer that boy I cared for.”
“You cared for…” He repeated with a hopeful curiosity.
Kitana swallowed hard, watching his determined eyes change into something softer. He went to grasp her hand but she quickly pulled back. Both of them could feel the guards inching to step in but another wave of the Princess’s other hand kept them at bay.
“This is too brazen, Rain.” She said, grateful for the distance now between them. “You are unlike yourself.”
He scoffed. “And now you presume to know me? You do not know the man that I had to become. Or the things I tried to accomplish under Shao Kahn’s reign… that I tried to end.”
Now it was Kitana’s turn to laugh, a mirthless chuckle huffing from lips.
“You tried to end that tyrant’s reign?”
“Seeds were planted. It has been years in the making. Between my suspicions of Shang Tsung’s treacherous deceit and the court clawing at one another, I was so close to-”
“It’s been years, Rain!” Her voice was deep and commanding. “Years spent under the thumb of that tyrant and nothing grew from those seeds !”
The silence that followed was more tortuous than the actual words spoken. Rain looked at his feet, unable to meet the fury in her beautiful eyes.
“I have failed you, highness.” The desperation in his voice was thick. “I know this-”
“As you said before, you dare not beg for forgiveness so what more can you say?”
His light brown eyes suddenly flew to hers. “Just this one thing. I will always come to you when you call. I will always come to my friend.”
“I am to consider you as a friend now? After all these years? Why ?”
“Why have you kept me on your court?”
Her lips pressed into a fine line. Unable to help it, a grin lifted at the corner of Rain’s mouth.
“You know it is because I am the only one left from our world whom you can truly trust. The only one who has seen everything in your life. I have been there, watching from the shadows. Silently protecting you from those you deem to harm you.”
“Words. Simple words about the past.” As she spoke, fire danced behind her dark eyes. “The past no longer interests me… only the future. Prove yourself to me now and fight for the future.”
“I will.”
Silently, Kitana accepted his response with a single nod and turned back to face the guards. She paused in her movements as Rain’s gentle voice stopped her.
“But I want more than to fight in your honor,” He said, taking a step behind her. “I want more than to work alongside you. “
“Rain…” She warned over her shoulder.
“We are some of the only true Edenians left in this world.” He stood his ground. “We are descendants from the Gods themselves. Equals in every way.”
His words were true. All Edenias were in some form or another related to the Elders' Gods. The two of them were a rare breed in this realm now.
“I know it is too soon to consider potential suitors as you rebuild your kingdom…” He said. She could hear him closely behind her now.
“It is-”
“There has been talk at court about your rule…”
“Who is it that believes I cannot rule all on my own?”
“Some of the council have said marriage should be a top priority for you. A male influence with a title would garner more allies to your side.”
“I have allies.”
“Not enough.”
“I have done well enough so far.”
Though she protested, Kitana knew there was some truth in his words. While Shao Kahn ruled she struggled to require some prisoners for her secret rebellion just because she was a female. She had found out those men either chose to remain as a fighter or prisoner under her stepfather or worse align with Shang Tsung and his radical group.
“I could be that man.” Rain’s voice broke her out of her dark musings. “It would benefit your cause and help recruit those you have lost the first time. All I ask is that you look to me in the future. Even if I am just a contender… for your heart.”
There was lurch in her stomach, something she was unable to interpret. Head held high, Kitana turned around, face to face with the warrior once more.
“For the title.” She said,
“If that title comes with you…” His eyes roamed lovingly over her hard face. “Then I will gladly accept.”
“As I said before… prove yourself useful.”
“Then I will continue to prove myself,” In a bold move, he took her hand. And this time, Kitana did not pull away.. “I will fight for a better world as I always have. Fight in honor of you. And fight for our kind… for us.”
The last word was unspoken but they both knew it.
For Edenia.

Chapter Text
It turned out Johnny Cage was a busy man. Sonya didn’t think a celebrity like him had to make as many phone calls as he did. Sometimes the actor would be gone for hours in another room talking to , who Sonya assumed, must be his agent. After they finished breakfast he excused himself to “deal with some business issues”. Unaware of Hollywood gossip, Sonya hoped he wasn’t a gambler with money troubles. It would make sense. He had to have some kind of flaw. Staying at the beautiful penthouse the past week, Sonya only saw his good qualities. There were too many of them. She figured there was a downside to all of this- a catch.
When he eventually came out, Johnny found Sonya working her hardest to clean the dishes. She switched over and began wiping down the counter, looking unsure of everything around her.
“Hey,” He said, gesturing to the cellphone in his hand. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s okay. If anyone understands how work takes priority it’s me.”
An anxious look briefly flickered across Johnny’s face. As if he wanted to say more on the subject but held back. Sonya thought it was strange but didn't press him. Eventually the expression faded.
“You know, Sonya, you didn’t have to do all this.”
“I figured it was only polite.” She said, tossing the dishrag she’d been using back in the sink. “Seeing as you cooked and all.”
The special forces agent wasn’t used to cleaning such a beautiful space. The dump Sonya usually resided in wasn’t anything nearly as fancy as Johnny’s and she was so busy with work she didn’t have to clean up her place. And why would she? There weren't any guests or suitors to entertain, just her and the cheap beer in her fridge. But she didn’t mind. It was her home, just a place to live until her next mission. As long as she had a bed and roof over her head she would be fine.
And since the whole ordeal in Outworld, Sonya was privileged to experience living in two of the most luxurious places she'd ever seen. A superstar’s ten million dollar home and an actual Castle. She wasn’t sure how to act in such spaces.
She looked down at her work. Not a bad job but Sonya wasn’t sure what the great Johnny Cage would think. He said he had a housekeeper that came in. Would he compare the cleaning? Would he be mad that she touched the space?
Why do I care so much? She wondered as she watched him walk over her.
“Well finally free now,” He said with a smirk. “I’m all yours.”
Suddenly she felt nervous. Last night Sonya was emboldened by the alcohol running through her veins. Some liquor courage that had brought her on his lap but now she wasn’t sure if she felt the same way. His touch ignited something in her and she surrendered to the feeling without question. Seeing him before her now… there were so many questions.
His hands went to her waist, invading her space. She could smell the body wash washing off of him, clean and manly with a hint of spice.
There was a moment of hesitation, both of them sunsure of how to proceed next. Sonya would have snickered at the awkwardness if it wasn’t for the hazy look of desire in Johnny's eyes. There was a small smile playing at his mouth as his gaze went to her lips. She knew what was coming next and as expected, he kissed her.
Her belly did flips as their lips met, tentatively at first then soon growing and deepening. Any doubt of a change of heart about their intimately was soon forgotten as her hands went to his chest. Instead of pushing him away her fingers gripped the soft fabric of his shirt pulling him closer. Eventually they came up for air.
“Perfect.” He mumbled, going back in for another kiss.
“What?” Sonya breathed before accepting his mouth again.
His hands threaded through her blonde hair as he pulled back a little, just enough to take in her beautiful features.
“You’re perfect.”
Sonya shuddered at the compliment.
“I’m really not, Cage.” She insisted, laughing self consciously. He frowned at the nickname but said nothing.
“Men aren't in the habit of approaching me. You know- a work obsessed soldier who’s taller than they are. I'm not really a catch.”
Johnny knew she was more than. He had seen there was more behind her hard exterior but understood the concern about his intentions.
“I like that you're tall.” He said grinning again.
She scoffed. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. Perfect height for kissing.” To prove his point Johnny tilted his head down and captured her lips in a slow kiss. “Perfect body… perfect…”
The flowery words trailed off as they devoured one another. That was the kind of language that Sonya never heard Johnny use in any of his action films. They came off as something that wasn’t scripted and by the way he was rambling it definitely was not rehearsed.
Ending the kiss, he pressed his foreheads to hers, lightly touching. It was such an intimate gesture and Sonya let herself close her eyes and enjoy the feeling. She could feel the heat rising from her neck to her chest. If he continued making moves like that they would end up in the bedroom again. She was pretty sure if that wasn’t such a bad thing, considering last night. Instead she lightly pushed her hands to his chest.
Taking the hint, Johnny Cage leaned away.
“About last night…” She began.
“Last night was… a lot, I know.” He said sheepishly.
“I’m not sure what got into me.”
“Alcohol.” He suggested jokingly.
Sonya bit her lip nervously. It wasn’t that. She knew that strange adrenaline played a part. That dangerous power that lay dormant inside of her. Power heightened from the Outworld atmosphere. Apparently it carried over to their world now.
His eyebrows drew together.
"Sonya?" A look of confusion coming over his chiseled features as he waited for her to speak next.
“Ever since Outworld I’ve been feeling weird…” Sonya said, unsure how to even explain something she didn’t understand herself.
“Like what?”
“I don't know. Whatever it is... it has to do with our new powers. Something triggers this feeling and it's like fire under my skin? My heart races as if I just ran a marathon. And I don't think...”
Johnny could relate. In the back of his mind he could never forget how out of control he had been when attacking and killing Kano.
“I’ve been feeling it too. Like I’m on some kind of drug.”
She looked at him curiously.
“Not that I know what that feels like.” He added quickly.
“So what does this mean? Are we like superhuman now? Something else…?”
“I still feel human.” Sonya said, searching for that dangerous foreign feeling. Nothing now. “I am human.” She finished with certainty.
Johnny didn’t like the nervous look on her face while she grappled with the significance of it all. He tried to follow her train of thought.
“So because of that, you think that what we did...”
A mistake?
“It was a combination of a lot of things.” She said, cutting him off. “At least on my end.”
“I loved it.” He said suddenly and honestly.
Of course he loved it. Sonya thought. It's sex and he’s a guy.
But she had loved it too. It was great sex with a hot celebrity. And even though it felt amazing, after that cloud of arousal faded Sonya was left with uncertainty in an unusual aftermath.
“It’s not just about that, Sonya." Blue eyes sparking as he spoke in a resolute tone. "I meant it when I said I just like being around you. Working with you.”
“I like being around you too.”
She could feel her body relaxing under his tender gaze. No wonder the masses loved him. The genuine charm he oozed, when he wasn't peacocking, just radiated off of him. Was this the real him? Or maybe he changed since Outworld events.
“We can go back… take it slow.” He offered.
“I don’t think we can ever go back, Cage.”
She noticed the troubled look back on his face again.
“Cage? What happened to Johnny?”
“I just don’t want things to get too-”
“Personal?” He finished with a sigh.
Sonya nodded. In her short pause, Johnny held his breath. His hands went to her hair lightly stroking her locks, focusing on her silky hair.
“But everything we did... I liked it." She said. "I like you.”
It was too late to withdraw her confession but after saying it she realized how true her words were. Nothing like love but still it was mutual fondness for one another.
No going back.
“I just don’t know what the rules are with all this,” She waved a hand between them. “With us.”
There was a moment if hesitation from Johnny Cage as his eyes flew to hers, communicated one question- almost begging.
Can I?
Sonya responded with a slight smile and nod.
It wasn’t a rejection and that was all either needed before they both plunged into the abyss.
After a moment she heard a deep groan come from the actor and before she knew it they were back together, pressing against one another. His fingers threaded in her hair. It was an was oddly sweet and romantic, nothing that matched from the playboy facade he wore.
“No rules.” He said before his mouth crashed down against hers.
As her lips massaged his, Sonya sensed the intensity of his emotions. Recklessness and longing, a dangerous combination that matched her own.
Her hands found his face, cradling and gently scraping at his skin.
Definitely no going back now. Sonya thought as his tongue entered her mouth.
That strange energy from Outworld was back flowing between them. It was surging in their veins and pushing at her. Wanting to get closer to the man touching her. It was primitive and unrelenting and they knew what was triggering it. It made them bold and, in the moment, they didn’t care. He was hungry and Sonya was just a starved as he was.
Her skin aflame, Sonya gripped his massive shoulders as their mouths continued to fucked one another. Lips and tongues combating one another as moans and sighs slipped out in between.
“Where do you want to..?” She gasped, unable to finish her question as his mouth traveled down her neck.
“Anywhere I don’t care.” He growled, hiking her up by the ass.
She wrapped her powerful thighs on either side of him and he propped her up on the now clean counter. His hand sneaked between the folds of her robe, cupping her sex. She was already wet and quivering at this point. Going against her prior stance Sonya gave into the promise of pleasure and moaned.
“Just say my name again....”
“Johnny .”
As she ground into his hand she watched a severe expression come over Johnny as he stimulated her folds. Hearing his name was doing something to him and Sonya realized that she loved it. She loved the control over him.
With a moan Sonya arched her back, pressing her breasts into him. Her nipples so sensitive and hard as she rubbed against him. Johnny groaned and reached into her robe to cup one tit, massaging it. Her thighs clenched, hot desire beginning to seep in between.
Johnny slipped a finger inside finding her heat. Her slit clenched around one digit right. Moving his finger, he could feel himself getting more and more aroused. Just touching her opening was turning him on. The dampening moisture that was soaking his hand. He could have bent her over the counter now and fucked her with wild abandonment if he wanted to.
Ignoring his painfully hard cock he added another finger and felt Sonya cling to him tighter, her voice seductive.
"Fuck... Johnny."
Johnny's serious expression soon smoothed as he leaned down to kiss her again, first her mouth then her neck. Sonya sighed and groaned as Johnny's tongue traced the shell of her ear, his fingers crooking then finding and teasing her bundle of nerves.
Sonya gripped his brawny biceps, needing an anchor for the wave of tingles shooting throughout her body. She was prepared to fall off into nothingness, and needed something to steady her. Her inner walls gripped around his fingers tightly, nectar now gushing from her slit.He was now grinding his stony length against her thigh, huffing along her neck as he worked her to completion. The action star could tell she was close.
“Com’on, baby.” He urged, feeling Sonya begin to shiver around him.
Her eyes swerved to his in wonder. Then, wrecked with an electric current, her body shook as the pad of his thumb pressed down on her erect clit.
She bit her lip harshly, stifling oncoming moans. Her arms wrapped around his neck, riding the resting sensations of her orgasm.
Coming down from her high, Sonya hung on to the actor as he left a trail of kissing along her head and neck.
“Sorry,” He said. “I couldn’t help myself.”
Sonya could feel him smiling against her skin. She gripped his neck, drawing him to her face.
“Never apologize for that.” She said breathlessly.
They kissed once more, lips molding slow to one another. Still clinging to another on the counter, the pair shared a quiet moment of kisses and nuzzling.
Johnny was still hard but didn't want to push her anything further. It was already daring enough that he mounted her in the kitchen and didn't want her to think that he demanded anything from her. He awkwardly tried to close her open robe in display of modesty, his fingers fumbling to successfully do so.
Sonya looked down and smiled demurely at the gentlemanly action. In doing so she noticed his long and prominent length showcased through his sweatpants. Pressing against its hardness, Sonya thought back to how it felt inside her felt her womanhood getting aroused again.
“I should let you get ready-” He started.
“No,” She said, her palm going to his member. “Fuck me.”
“God, Sonya .”
If Johnny Cage didn’t have his hands full he would have punched the air in triumph.
They two didn’t even make it back to the bedroom before Johnny Cage was moving inside Sonya.
Settling on the couch in his living room, the special forces agent was now straddling the handsome celebrity much like the night before. The white robe Sonya had been wearing was stripped and abandoned in the kitchen, leaving exquisite curves exposed before him. Johnny’s own shirt and pants followed before he took her off the counter and moved them both to his pricey sofa.
With a furrowed brow, Johnny did his best to concentrate. They were both sober now and he always felt the urge to impress Sonya and show off. Sweat was beginning to bead around his forehead as he tried to maintain control.
She didn’t seem to notice his preoccupation as her hands explored his broad shoulders and chest.
It was driving him crazy.
“Wait,” He rasped, clearing his head. “Protection.”
Realization hit Sonya like a ton of bricks. It had been such a whirlwind the night before. They didn’t use a condom.
“Do you…?” She asked, uncertain if she could stop at this point.
“Ah shit.” He mumbled, shaking his head. “I didn't think-”
Sonya knew what he meant, he didn’t think they would do something like this. Her chest swelled at the thought of that. He thought of getting her clothes, food, and toiletries…. nothing in regards to sex. He really didn’t have expectations of being with her like that. It shocked her and at the same time delighted her.
He groaned, pressing his forehead to hers. “I’m clean and I can pull out but it’s your call.” His voice was rough and desperate.
“It’s okay…” She whispered. “I trust you.”
And she did.
Johnny’s nostrils flared and he closed his eyes. When he opened Sonya saw a heated stare not usually found in his navy blue eyes. One of lust and determination. His cock was stiff and at attention, long against her stomach already stimulating her clit. He took the same to run his hands over her soft body. Johnny's plan was to go slow but Sonya had other ideas. Rubbing herself along his body for a for seconds she then lowered onto him.
Then he lost it. Fingers dug into the smooth skin of her back as he held her to him. His serious expression soon smoothed into one of ecstasy as he slid inside her warmth.
“God I want this so bad .” He groaned. “Want you..”
His murmurs faded as he leaned down to kiss her again, this time long and lingering. It had Sonya sighing against his lips then groaning as he slowly pushed even further into her, never breaking the kiss. She had a vice-like grip on him and Johnny knew he couldn’t be gentle now.
“ Sonya… Sonya. ” His words were low, a mixture of praise and admonishment.
She bit her lip wickedly. After adjusting to his size Sonya began to ride him, the delicious fullness all she could focus on. Skin to skin, they worked together creating a smooth and steady rhythm. Sonya’s generous chest was falling in his face. His mouth moved to latch on to one while his other hand cupped her breast, teasing her peaks.
Blindsided, jolts of unequal pleasure spiked through Sonya’s core as she moved on his length.
“Ugnh! Johnny!”
He watched her rise and fall above him, enraptured by the way her tits bounced or the way her hair flew in her face.
“Ugh…yes..” He grunted, thrusting up into her. “So wet and hot...”
His hands went to her butt and squeezed. Together they had found the perfect spot that got Sonya so worked up. Her head fell back, clutching Johnny’s head back to her chest as she bucked against him. His mouth went to her breasts again, unable to help himself, tasting her once more.
“Just like that! There!” She begged, searching for her perfect ending.
The heat rose between them, sweat rolling off their bodies as they rubbed together. Sonya was panting now, speeding up as she rocked on his lap. As he continued his rough thrusts, she pressed herself against the hard planes of his lower abdomen and stimulated her already sensitive nerves.
Soon she forgot about everything around them and came undone, contracting around him.
“Ahhhh!!” She cried as white hot rays of ecstasy shattered her body as her vagina tightened spasmodically.
Johnny caught her before she fell on top of him. With her weak and paint in his arms, he flipped her over still inside of her. He continued his rutting, plunging in and out the rhythm now rushed and erratic.
Sonya could feel herself pushed deeper into the cushions as he pounded into her. It all she could do was hold on, biting down on the spot between neck and shoulder as the ripples of her orgasm faded.
Closing his eyes, he then reached his own climax with a low groan. Behind his eyes Johnny saw stars and quickly remembered to pull out right before he exploded over her.
Propping himself up he stared down at her, a look of awe on his face. He had incredible sex before but with their new combined strength this was intense. Johnny had already been feeling the aftermath of their love making from the night before and now this round was taking its a toll on his body.
“Yeah I’m definitely gonna be sore tomorrow.” He said as Sonya adjusted herself along his.
His hands moved up and down the lines of her body in reverence, making mental a note to go slower and appreciate her curves the next time.
“Mhmm.“ She purred in agreement, noticing the love bites she made. “I was caught up in the moment.”
“Good,” He said, rolling over and switching their positions. She was now flush to his chest. “That's exactly where I want you.”
They both let out a huff of laughter before falling into an easy silence.
“I don’t think I’m gonna get any work done today.”
“Mhm?”
“Not with you on top of me.”
Sonya gave him a coy smile, starting to push off his chest.
“Well then maybe I should-”
His arms around her tightened. “Don’t you dare .”

Chapter Text
She was dreaming again. It had to be another nightmare .
As far as Sonya could see, she was alone. A vast and lonely whiteness surrounded her. No corners, rooms, or exits. There were also no weapons or aid in sight. Nothing was. The space around her was open and empty. Only minutes ago Sonya had been laying in Johnny Cage’s bed, feeling his arm still draped around her hip as she pressed herself to him. And now she wasn't sure where she was. Just glaring brightness and an eerie silence.
It was unnatural and unsettling.
From her years of military experiences, Sonya knew that anything this quiet was usually followed by turbulent consequences. Ambushes and raids. And though she knew she was asleep, nothing about that fact could provide comfort to her.
There was a shift in the energy behind her. She could sense it in the air. Not by a sound but by a feeling without a touch. .
“Wife .”
She didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
“This isn't real.” She said tightly.
Shang Tsung’s arms lightly grazed up and the curves of her body. The palms of his hands were warm and inviting, settling on either side of her midriff. She remembered what those hands could do.
“But it feels real doesn't it?”
Sonya tried to ignore the tempting warmth at her back. “I’m dreaming.”
“In a way…”
The sound of his voice wasn’t teasing- more educational as if she was a novice and needed help. It was her dream why would he know more than she did.
“I’m asleep.”
“You are,” He purred. “The perfect place to find you.”
She turned to face him. “Where are we?”
“Somewhere between life and death.”
Straightening up, Sonya's blue eyes drifted across the barren space.
“So where can I shove you into the death side?”
Shang Tsung smirked, his dark eyes sparkling as he did. “Is that really what you want?”
“Nooo I wouldn’t dream of it.” She said sarcastically.
“You just dream of other things… me for one.”
Aha! She thought. Got him.
“So this is a dream?”
Suddenly his hands were no longer on her waist, dropping leniently by his side.
“Yes and no,” He took a step back. “Through your unconsciousness we have connected in a cosmic void.”
So that was it. She was safe for now in her mind… but still stuck with him.
“You’re dead.“ Sonya turned and examined him.
He looked the same, wearing the same clothes he wore before portal took him. A traditional eastern fighting garment with golden armor that showcased an exposed chest. Sharp jagged pads darted off his muscular shoulders. He was wearing that evil looking silver and gold claw-like glove on his left knuckles.
It was a remarkable sight, he was unscathed. No burns or wounds, his body still had all his limbs attached. Sonya wasn’t sure why but she could have sworn something as twisted as the gateway he was sucked through would have caused damage or death.
A heavy sigh escaped him. “Do you really think Liu Kang had the power to kill me?”
“That portal should have.”
Shang Tsung scoffed, his gazing raking over her scowl then her body in disappointment.
“My sweet Sonya,” He cooed. “Contemplating my demise instead of mourning it?”
“If the roles were reserved you’d be doing the same.”
He let out a low chuckle and Sonya was upset to find how seductive it was.
“Your demise?”
She nodded. For some strange reason Sonya was shocked to find that her legs would not move away from that man before her.
“Don’t act like you care about me.”
He tilted his head to the side “Is that what you want?”
Sonya wasn’t sure what kind of reply she expected but it certainly wasn’t a question.
“Why am I dreaming about you?” She wondered with a groan.
“Perhaps I’m a ghost,” He teased, circling her in a typical predatory fashion. “Or perhaps I’m very real… searching for ways to find you and reclaim you.”
Soon he was behind her again, closer than before. A hand carefully brushed her neck, sending tingles between her thighs. His hand pushed her long blonde hair away from her neck, exposing her milky skin to his sensual touch.
“Or maybe I’m just going crazy.” She insisted, unable to look at him.
“I like this way actually,” He whispered, lips near her ear. “Being inside your head. Doing whatever I want.”
With great effort Sonya shrugged him off, ignoring the shivers traveling to her womanhood.
“Anything is possible if you want it badly enough.” He murmured.
“Not in your case.”
“I want you badly.”
“I thought you wanted to take over the realms.”
Thoughts of his failed plan rushed back to her. A hint of a smile crept into her face. She looked back at him. Quickly, the smug expression on his face was replaced with a dark grimace. His hands were back on her waist.
“You twist my intentions, Wife .”
The sensuous feelings he was coaxing from her body was surpassed by dread flooding her lower stomach. The marriage… the soul bond.
“I’m not your anything. We had an agreement. That was all it was.”
“You know it was more than that… our unbreakable bond.”
“Which you lied to be about.” She spat.
“I never lied to you. I told you we would be married. I asked for you to be mine.”
“You forced me into those things. We were making deals at every chance.”
Sonya thought about those sacrifices she had made for her friends. For Liu Kang, Johnny and even for Sheeva. All the bargains she agreed to with a dark Sorcerer.
“I deceived you,” His mouth dropped to her neck, lightly kissing her softness. “An evil yes but a necessary one.”
“You betrayed me just when I started to-”
The words coming from her mouth fell short, causing Shang Tsung to pause in his actions. His eyes drifted up to hers.
“Oh Sonya,” He mocked. “Love?”
“Trust you.” She finished bitterly.
She watched as his smile grew, crooked and sexy. It both infuriated and aroused her. Still caressing her skin, Sonya found she couldn’t shake him off this time. It was her dream shouldn't she be able to pull out of his grasp? Maybe there was something to what he had been saying. A scary idea but a possible one.
Was he simply taking place in her imagination or really in some supernatural void?
“I was your pawn,” She looked away. “Fuck you.”
If Sonya couldn’t move to kick his ass, she would at least let her mouth do the fighting. Still, the words came out soft, lacking maliciousness. She screwed her eyes shut, trying to block out his touch along her collarbone.
In response to her curses, Shang Tsung casually played with her tank top strap. “I love how you react to my touch,” A finger slipped it down and off her shoulder. “I missed it.”
She wanted to spit at him but her body refused the mind’s suggestion. It had other plans. Shang’s warm tongue darted out and traced Sonya's ear, causing her to shudder much to her dismay.
“Tell me, my dear Sonya,” He whispered slowly in her ear, pressing himself against her. The hardness of his length now at the forefront of her mind. “Have you been touching yourself to me?”
A rush of excitement flooded her body at hearing his question. His grin turned predatory as he study her body. Her nipples were erect. Her breathing shallow. Heat radiating between them. Sonya feel as though he was actually was standing before her. It had her doubting if this truly was a dream.
“Do not deny it,” Taking her by the shoulders, Shang turned her to face him. “Your body betrays you. I can tell you're enjoying it.”
He was teasing her. Making moves but not going all the way. It was driving Sonya crazy. Even in her lucid state she could feel the energy source of her powers goading her body into vehemently responding to his touch. It was taking everything in the special forces agent to maintain willpower.
“Stay out of my head,” Any insults she originally planned died on her lips. “You're just haunting me.”
“You haunt me- your voice,” His nostrils flared, taking in her scent. “Your smell, your touch.”
“S-stop it.” Sonya wasn’t sure if she was talking to him or her libido.
“I want you so much,” The longing in his voice made her legs weak. “I’m afraid I may devour you.”
The lips long her neck pulled back, sharp teeth pressing into her skin in a loving bite. As he did, his fingers drifted lower along her torso and slipping in her sleep shorts. She gasped, her voice catching in her throat as his touch went between her thighs
“You’re so wet.”
The tips of his fingers dragged down Sonya's swollen clit before sliding between her lower lips, now slick with betraying lust.
“It’s pleasing to know how badly you need me,” He mumbled against her flesh, “But patience is a virtue.”
How can he talk about virtue when his hand is in my pants?
One finger curled, flicking her bud and testing the warmth that was spreading on his hand. She practically cried out in shock and desire.
“There are still so many things I long to do to you, my sweet Sonya. Shall I tell you about them now?”
“Shang-” She moaned, her knees buckling
“You on your knees swallowing me in your mouth. You taking me inside of you, riding me … on the throne we both deserve.”
“Unh!” She cried.
His fingers were working together inside and out bringing her to a heated frenzy. One hand was now playing with her one exposed breast, her top almost half off. Sonya was pressing her ass into his crotch now, her hands gripping his arms for support.
“Or perhaps I should show you what I plan to do, hm?”
It’s not reality. She thought, biting her lip and focusing on his ministrations.
“Do you miss me inside your body, fucking you until you can’t speak?
Sonya wanted to protest but any objections failed as his digits toyed with her cunt, teasing her entrance. She mewled behind closed lips, silently telling herself it was lust that had taken over her dream self she told herself. Not any kind of love, or respect for the man stroking her.
And this was a dream and nothing mattered in an unconscious state like this.
“Yes’ She breathed out on impulse.
It was a lie, she knew, but everything the sorcerer was currently doing made her impulsive. She rocked her hips with his talented hand and fingers. Tingles and sharp jolts of pleasure raking her pussy. Her breaths were coming out in short gasps. She was close and he could sense her frustration.
“Where are you, wife?” He asked, kissing her jaw and neck, pushing himself closer to her.
She clenched your teeth against the oncoming waves of ecstasy twisting between her hips. All she could think about was her cunt, still needy and rubbing against his palm. It should be sickening and abhorrent with a madman like him but it felt so good …
His one hand ripped away from her chest and grabbed her chin in hand bringing her face to his in a dominating kiss.
“Say it. Where?” He growled against her mouth, nipping at your bottom lip. “Say it and I’ll let you come.”
In a lust filled haze Sonya pulled away confused.
If this is a dream...why does he want to know where I am?
For a moment paranoia overtook the desire firing off inside of her. Could it be that in reality he didn’t know where she was. Would he find her in reality or back on Earth? What if he truly was alive and not some ghost in her subconscious. What would he do if he did know where she was?
He twisted his fingers inside her, one grazing and pressuring her swollen nub.
OH right. That’s what he’d do. She thought weakly, shivering in twinges of pleasure. Or worse.
Sonya's body tensed on edge, still begging for release. She groaned uncontrollably in desperation. It was frustrating and relentless, her pussy aching to be filled with more. But she knew everything came at a cost with Shang Tsung. What he didn't have or know- he was willing to exploit anyone’s weakness to have it.
She kept her lips together, silently stopping her movements with his. Suddenly he pulled his hand away and Sonya's breath halted in her throat.
“So be it then,” Shang Tsung said darkly.
Somewhat humiliated, Sonya slipped free. Pulling up her tank top as she whirled around to face him. She stared directly into his dark gaze, head held her high in defiance. His handsome features were inches from hers and Sonya lips parted. Before she had time to say or register anything else, his fingers were in front of her face. In a lovingly manner he cupped her cheek, tracing her lips with a slick thumb.
“There you are.” He said proudly, "My Queen."
Unsure why- the special forces agent closed her eyes, feeling her own wetness coating her pouty mouth.
With gasp, Sonya bolted up from Johnny’s Cage’s king sized bed. It was pitch black apart from the digital clock on the far end of the room. It was 2:00 am. Sonya could feel the dampness at the back of her neck.... and between her thighs. Her hands examined the wetness-she was soaked.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Sonya thought, trying to reassure her fears. It happens...
The attractive actor still asleep beside her, his face away from hers but an arm still outstretched towards Sonya's body. She smiled at the endearing picture, carefully removing herself from his side.
Walking to the bathroom, Sonya took a deep breath in. Like earlier she kept telling herself 'it was just another nightmare'. But for some reason, when she switched on the light, Sonya could still taste herself on her lips.

Chapter Text
It was an empty bed Sonya found herself in the next morning. At some point Johnny had slipped out while she was sleeping and she was surprised at how he’d managed to get up earlier than her.
There was a note beside her along with a long stemmed flower (from a vase in the living room). The note informed her that the actor had a meeting with his agent and wouldn’t be long. The gesture was a romantic and clearly impromptu that had Sonya almost forgetting about her dream. Almost.
The dream the night before had shaken her to her core. Something about the feeling that still lingered with her. Fingertips along the skin shoulders and along her lips. The taste…
No, stop it Sonya. She told herself. He’s dead .
Clearing the lucid visions of Shang Tsung from her head, Sonya got out of bed and started her day. After some delicious coffee and food she went to check in on Jax.
Since she was temporarily discharged the Special Forces wouldn’t take her calls, so she settled on getting her updates from the man himself. Sonya first spoke with his wife, getting updates on the house and farm the Briggs owned together. Vera Briggs clearly enjoyed having her husband back at home. After that Sonya caught up with her partner. By the sound of Jax’s voice, she could tell he was grateful for his wife’s doting but tired of being bedridden.
“Can’t wait to get outta here and back in the field, Blade.” He told her with a heavy sigh.
“Just stay put and don’t do anything rash until you fully recover.” Sonya advised.
“You sound like Vera.” He muttered.
“Smart woman.” Vera said, her voice quiet but clear in the background of their call.
Sonya let out a breathy chuckle. She always liked Jax’s wife.
“The Special Forces have been sending their best doctors and scientists to work on me.”
“Scientist?” Sonya asked, now confused.
“Yeah they’re testing out some new procedures…and uh equipment on me… on my arms.”
“Wow. Where are they getting the funding for that?”
The forces were well respected but funding their military medical needs was sometimes tricky because of how secretive they were in their contacts and backers.
“No clue. They just said it was an anonymous donor but I’ll dig around, see what I can find and get back to you on it. I’m curious about it myself.”
After their call was over Sonya went over to the window. It was a gorgeous and sunny day. The pristine surface of the sapphire pool caught her eye, seductively glinting in the light.
She went to get changed, selecting a red bathing suit out of the new clothes Johnny had purchased for her. It was the only one that wasn't a skimpy bikini. A simple one piece with a low cut back. Sonya couldn't imagine herself in a thong g-string.
Though if Johnny did come back and see her in one it wouldn't really matter. He’d seen enough of her skin these past few days.
She blushed at the memory of it all. Them on the couch, in his bed, on the kitchen counter...
I need to cool off now .
And with that thought she made her to the outside deck. Opening the glass door, Sonya took a deep breath in delight. L.A’s sunshine was growing on her.
She dove headfirst in the large pool, relishing in it's crisp coolness. The pool was a decent size for the private balcony, compact but long enough for laps. The simple act of swimming had her immediately feeling normal once more, like being back at the academy. She tried out all kinds of strokes: butterfly, breast, freestyle, and back. The SF agent even swam beneath the water like a mermaid, expertly holding her breath as she examined the peaceful pool floor.
That peace was soon interrupted
Sonya heard Johnny before she saw him.
Coming up for air her ears were met with a war cry as Johnny launched himself into the water. His arms were tightly wrapped around his knees, pressed to his chest. Sonya watched as the actor fell into the pool right before quickly turning her face away, droplets of water spritzing her as she did.
Her eyes went back to the disturbed water before her, watching as Johnny reemerged.
“Did you just do a cannonball?” She asked, unimpressed.
There was a small pause.
"Yeah." He responded.
Sonya stifled a snicker. He was truly a frat boy trapped in the body of an adonis
"What?" He asked dumbly, wiping the water from his face and hair. "Like you've never done one.”
She rolled her eyes before switching to some light strokes, keeping her head above the water.
"If you don’t mind. I was working out,” She explained. “It's been awhile since I've trained in a pool.”
"Train? Uh this pool is for leisure and parties only."
“You don't do workouts here?"
"Of course I do… but this is a new rule." He declared, treading water effortlessly.
"Since when?"
"Since a hardass blonde started staying here."
"Oh please."
"No really. Starting now, this is a fun only pool."
She stopped swimming once more, shooting him an annoyed look.
Johnny just laughed it off. "Don't you ever just relax? Let loose?"
Sonya was sure most people would call having amazing meals and orgasms a form of relaxing and letting loose.
I’ve been doing a lot of that these past few days.
The special forces agent ignored his question and moved across the shallow end of the pool, finding a set of small steps to sit on. Her body was on full display now. Water cascaded down her full chest and toned shoulders. She shut her eyes in bliss, soaking up the sun’s light warming her skin. Johnny swallowed, feeling his throat dry at the sight of it. She was beautiful like this, quiet and happy.
It was something he wished he could always see.
He felt himself grow stiff under the water and thought of going back inside and taking care of those feelings away from her. Yes, they had been having sex but he wasn’t sure if she would be ready to do so now, especially since he interrupted her in the pool. What did he expect? Intrude on her morning routine and mount her then and there?
The thought only made him get harder.
Instead he tried to linger in one area of the pool but his body had other ideas and gradually moved closer towards her. Being around her like this wasn’t easy. Not with her in that one piece that clung to her like a second skin, accentuating every luscious curve.
Johnny watched as she leaned back, half in and out of the water enjoying the rays on her pale skin. At this rate they would be back in his bedroom going at it like wild animals if he kept getting closer.
He cleared his throat, his swimming paused and his attention on the water around him. “Did you, uh, check on Jax? How’s he doing?”
Sonya perked up at her partner’s name. “Good.” Her eyes went to Johnny. “He’s taking it easy, hopefully.”
Johnny nodded, unable to meet her gaze. “Sounds like he’s recovering then?”
“Yeah, apparently our team is sending in the best. They’re working on his injuries.”
“His arms.” He recalled, with a wince.
“Yeah they got some secret benefactor funding the whole thing.”
Johnny said nothing, just listening and nodding.
“So I’m not sure what’s gonna happen but I guess they have the money to rehab him …I just wish…”
The celebrity’s head snapped up, his serious eyes meeting hers. “What’s that?”
“That I could see him.” She finished, with a sad smile.
If it was any other woman Johnny was dating he would have felt pangs of jealousy at the mention of another man, but instead he only shared her pain. He knew how much Jax and Sonya cared for one another and the lengths the partners would go for one another. Johnny respected that.
“You know you’re not a prisoner here. I mean you can leave here anytime you want. Be with him-”
Sonya sighed. “No, it’s better this way. He needs time to rest and be with Vera.”
That gave the actor’s ego another boost.
Unable to resist, Johnny swam up to Sonya, still low in the water before her. “Sooo I take it you like it here?”
She laughed “What’s not to like? The view, the weather, the luxury-”
“The company.” Johnny bragged.
She gave him a slight shrug. “The company is… decent.”
“Decent ? Are you sure you don’t mean incredible? Handsome? Irresistible?”
The only response he received was an indifferent one, a nose scrunch from the blonde that seemed to say whatever. He found it adorable. Johnny wanted to see her do it everyday for the rest of his life.
Sonya’s stare slowly went to the muscular chest in front of her, eyes raking over him as he got closer now in the shallow water with her. Now it was Sonya’s turn to feel hot, despite the cool water around them. Her breath caught in her throat.
He was more than decent… he was a dream .
“So what's the plan?” Sonya asked, trying to distract from the lustful thoughts.
Johnny’s cocked his head slightly. “For the rest of the day?”
“I meant going forward for you. For us.”
“I uh…” He trailed off now, not sure how to answer.
“I feel like I’m on vacation here.” Johnny now looked hurt. “Don’t get me wrong I’ve been enjoying myself- it just feels wrong.”
He was so close to Sonya now, on his knees before her. “We saved the Realm. All of the Realms actually. I think we’re entitled to enjoy ourselves.”
“I’m used to working. Missions and jobs.” She shook her head. “And this doesn’t feel right… not with Jax the way he is.”
Maybe this isn’t the best conversation to have with him while he’s shirtless kneeling before me…
“And what about Outworld?” She added.
“It’s not our World, Sonya. Besides, Liu’s got it covered I’m sure. If he didn’t I think Raiden would have said something by now.”
She mulled that thought over. “That’s true.”
“Listen, I've got an idea. Let’s get outta here for a night! I’ve got a movie premiere in the next few days.”
“Johnny I told you…” Sonya started, not ready for a public outing with the action star.
“Not a date. Just something for you to do. I’ll be busy with interviews on the red carpet but you could at least come to the after party.” He smiled. “Bask in my glory.”
She snorted at the cocky remark. His smugness would never change but Sonya found herself growing to like it. Or at least deal with it.
Anticipation climbed up her spine as he leaned over her on the stairs, trapping her on the steps. Maybe it was the way the sun lit his tan body and sandy brown hair, making Johnny look like a Golden God, but Sonya felt herself getting more and more aroused by his confidence and good looks.
“Could be fun…” She said, feeling bold and lifting a long leg. Seductively, she ran it up and down his toned arm and went on. “And what comes after the after party.”
As if Johnny wasn’t hard before he was now painfully at full mast.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He breathed, as his hands found her waist.
With a huge smile, he pulled her to him as water splashed and cascaded around them. At the Sonya laughed low in the back of throat that turned into a tiny moan as she ground against his length. As he sucked on her lower lip Sonya’s hand found his protruding member, stroking it gently through his suit.
Gripping the top of her bathing suit he began sliding it off.
“Johnny.” She laughed, half protesting.
“What?” He growled into her neck, working the suit over her full breasts and off her lower body. “I liked seeing it on you but now I wanna see it off you now..”
He was relentless as he went about stripping her in the water. Wild and hungry. It only turned her on more. Biting her lip in excitement, Sonya enthusiastically helped him and stepped out then letting the skimpy red suit float away.
In one brief motion, she pulled down his trunks before looping her legs around him and impaling herself on his hard cock. Together they began rising and falling, their mouths meeting perfectly as they continued rubbing their slippery bodies one another.
“God…” Sonya whimpered, feeling the sparks light up her core. “Oh, god –”
Keeping one hand on her hip and the other on her back and he drove up into her harder. Johnny sighed lustily, grabbing her tits and teasing them. His lips reached her throat and licked a line to her mouth, kissing her passionately. With a muffled sound of surprised Sonya accepted it, enjoying the perfect connection.
"You feel so good," Johnny panted, pulling back to look at their moving bodies. "You feel so good.."
His face went to her neck kissing and biting as she gripped around him tighter. Each worked with one another, trying to get closer and closer knowing it was never enough.
“Ah!” Johnny cried through clenched teeth as Sonya’s nails raked down his bare back.
Her newly ascended strength really was showing and he was sure there would be some bruises and marks tomorrow.
Good thing I don’t have a photo-shoot coming up. He thought as the pain briefly seared through him.
Those thoughts were pushed from his mind as her breathing picked up, tightly squeezing around his cock. The coolness of the water contrasting against their heated skin.
She was close.
“Fuck, fuck….!” Her voice hitched as her hands found his butt, pulling him in even deeper.
She was everything. He couldn't get enough of her. The concentrated faces she made in the throes of passion only made him crazy. The womanly sounds that fell from her full lips- like sensual music to his ears. It was all so beautiful. He shifted, his movement growing into a torrid pace as he pounded her pussy deeply. Water swiftly sloshed around them as the tempo increased. Johnny was sure their lovemaking wouldn't disturb his neighbors, as his loft was far off from other condos, but if they did the actor found he couldn’t care.
He couldn’t focus on anything but the gorgeous blonde in his arms and around his cock.
"Ah! YES!" She cried.
With one more gasp Sonya closed her eyes and climaxed, coming so hard she swore she saw stars. As she came down she felt herself slipping from Johnny before being roughly pulling back as he went on thrusting, searching for his own release.
“Oh God !” He cried, before reaching his peak.
Sonya felt him shudder then quickly withdraw before coming into the water.
She relaxed and laid on the pool steps basking in the water, feeling like liquid herself. No more thoughts of Shang Tsung, Outworld, or Jax.
Just Johnny Cage.
Just them .
Staring up at the sky above them, Sonya wondered how long it could all last.
Notes:
Again sorry it's been so long. I've been busy with some shows but in general these past months have SUCKED for me and NOW I'm scared for my country's democracy sooo that's great :( :( :( :(
I love writing fun and sexy fics BUT my stories are based in fandoms about right and wrong and good winning... that doesn't feel like the case right now in reality so I'm using my work as outlet. That might sound dramatic but I don't care.
I'm mad but writing helps. <3
Chapter Text
Sonya Blade rarely felt nervous, yet as she laid in Johnny Cage’s bed that was the only feeling currently hijacking her body. Every single fiber of her being was on edge as she focused on tonight’s event. When she had agreed to go with Johnny to his after party she had been high off sex and sunshine, not considering what it would mean for her. Spotlight. Attention. To be perceived by strangers. The judgment and scrutiny that would follow from being on the arm of a celebrity. Earlier in life Sonya was raised to be determined and unfazed, lest she be seen as weak. In all her years of working in the Special Force she could be nothing short of confident and driven. Anxiety was never a factor before things like an ambush or a mission.
The last time he had felt anything like this was…
My marriage to Shang Tsung.
A small wave of arousal tingled through her entire body at the thought of it. His voice low, his words drawn out. Those dark hypnotic eyes that pulled her in. That spicy scent belonging to him that alerted Sonya whenever he was nearby. His kisses, deep and purposeful. The way he touched her. Their haunting soul bond.
She immediately rolled out the lush bed, eager to escape those pesky thoughts of the sorcerer and blaming it on said soul bond.
It was the morning of Johnny Cage’s premiere and Sonya felt more on edge than anything. The past few days had been a dream. Just mindless relaxation and sex. Light and fun conversations and amazing dinners. Now she’d have to go out in the outside world again. A world just as scary as Outworld... Hollywood.
The actor has left early again. A note on the counter, along with rich coffee and a high protein breakfast, informed Sonya that Johnny had a few meetings and interviews in the morning and he would be back in the late afternoon. That didn't surprise Sonya, he had been up and out early most days and she didn’t mind the peaceful mornings to herself.
What did surprise her was a clothing rack hanging various expensive and elaborate dresses. It was for the premiere. The last time she wore a beautiful dress was at that Outworld wedding. The knot in her stomach tightened again, her heart pounding a little more faster. She wasn't sure if it was at the thought of going as Johnny's date or the memories of being a bride.
Ignoring the beautiful clothes she went about getting breakfast and enjoying the beautiful morning sunshine.
“Nancy would ya listen to me! I already told you I’m going to the damn premiere.”
Stuck in the Four Season's hallway that was hosting a press junket for Johnny's newest film, he had taken a break from promoting to answer a call. It was his first time back in the Hollywood machine since going he’d been MIA in Hong Kong for the tournament and his team was making him pay for it but putting him through endless sloshy daytime interviewers. And the last thing he wanted to do was hear the shrieking noise that was his agent's voice.
“You better Cage!” She fought back. “It’s bad enough you were on some stupid getaway with some skank forcing us to push back this promotional tour-!”
“Hey! It wasn't some getaway and she’s not a skank!”
It was a tournament to save all of Earth and she’s a sexy lieutenant... brave and badass.
A small smile came to Johnny. That sounded like a movie Hollywood would make. The idea of writing his first movie didn’t seem so farfetched with a plot like that.
“Whatever, Johnny. I’m counting on you. This is big and we wanna start to rebuild your image.”
“Yeah yeah.” He groaned, checking his watch.
It was noon, another few hours and he would be done and getting ready for a night on the town with Sonya. Johnny was dying to see what she’d wear. He felt like an eager teenager going to prom.
“And you’re still bringing a plus one?” The unmistakable judgy tone in Nancy’s voice rang clear over the cellphone.
“Yes I am.”
“Also you’ll have to get ready here since you're already in town.”
“What?”
“Look it'll be better this way. You can handle a few more interviews before getting changed at the hotel.”
“But I-”
“I can send a car for your date. Is she still at your beach side condo?”
“Yeah but Karen look I wanted to-”
“Perfect! I’ll set everything up.” Her indifferent voice left no room for protest. “You owe me Cage. Look, just go out there and worry about selling this movie! Ciao!”
Johnny was about to reply before the line went dead and a dial tone rang in his ear, left only with the approaching press and entourage that continued fussing around him.
Settled into the leather couch with a glass of whiskey, Sonya stared at the rack of designer dresses before her. It was getting late in the afternoon and Johnny still hadn’t come back yet. He probably assumed she’d be ready by the time he’d arrived but the special forces agent was stuck in her indecisiveness. Seeing the glittering clothing made the moment even more real.
She swirled the glass in her hand. It was a date. A real life date. With the one and only Johnny Cage. And even if she wasn’t going to walk the carpet with him they would be at a party in public together.
A little daytime drinking at the moment seemed appropriate.
With a quick gulp of the bitter drink Sonya stood up to examine what was hanging. The amber liquid helped steadying her nerves as she went about flipped and pushed through each dress. Some were bold, diamonds and sequins elaborately stitched throughout. And others that were plain and simple- all one color and cut in elegant fashions.
One that caught her had been a dark forest green dress. A halter that was fitted going right to the knees. Sleek and sexy but demure enough to still be conservative. Her fingers drifted along its strong and silky fabric as a smile came across her face.
Now this she could imagine herself wearing.
With a new found determination she put the whiskey drink down, taking the beautiful green dress off to the guest room to try on. Before she had a change to get very far the door bell rang. Confused as to why Johnny would ring instead of using his own Sonya approached the door slowly. Maybe he was being polite before entering. She walked to the door, lifted her eyes to the peephole to look into the hallway.
In the small fishlens lens stood an older woman whom Sonya had never seen before. She was no shorter than 5 '4, dressed in the cleanest white suit she had ever seen. Her dark hair was slicked back into a stylish bun, hands on her hips with an apathetic air about her.
“Hi! Hello? Anyone there?” The voice on the other side of the door seemed impatient.
“Who is it?”
“I’m Nancy, Johnny’s Agent. I came to pick up some. He’d said to someone was here.”
“Do you have a key?” Sonya asked cautiously.
“Of course I do,” She sighed heavily. “I’m trying to be polite here. Can I come in?”
Feeling a little more confident with the introductions, Sonya unlocked the door, prepared for any kind of tricks. Having dealt with shapeshifting sorcerer had her ready for any kind of attack.
The agent walked his brandishing showing a key similar to the one Johnny had.
“See?” She said. “I come in peace.”
As she spoke Sonya's eyes went to her than her jacket that exposed a tiny hint of a tan line against her dark skin. Definitely a Los Angeles native. She was already walking around the space of the condo like she owned it. She definitely knew her way around the place.
"I’m also here to deliver some bad news,” She said casually, idly looking through some of his mail. “Johnny had to stay late in town and is gonna have to get ready for the premiere there.”
“Oh.” Sonya said, unable to hide the dejection in her voice.
Why didn’t he just call me…?
“So he sent you?”
“That’s right, sweetie, he’s just a little busy at the moment.”
“It’s Sonya.” She corrected me with a tight lipped smile. “Well thank you for letting me know.”
‘Sure!” She clapped her hands together and walked over to Sonya. “I can send a car for you around 6? You’re his date right?”
“Um yeah. I was just going to that thing afterwards but-”
“Oh the premiere party! Okay well it’s gonna be a while since he’ll have more interviews on the red carpet before you two will actually meet up and even then…” Her voice trailed off in a haughty laugh that Sonya found positively stuck up.
“Yeah I get it. Well thank you I should get ready.” Sonya said, trying to lead the obnoxious agent back out towards the door. “Was there anything else?”
With a smug smile Nancy let her. "Yes I think that's everything. Oops one more thing."
She quickly rushed back into the condo, darting off into the bedroom area like she'd done it a thousand times. Her voice called back to Sonya. "Sorry you'd think I'd remember getting certain things for Johnny. I mean this is so routine for him.”
“Routine?” Sonya asked back, her voice louder as she stayed by the door.
“I mean he does this so often!”
Sonya remained quiet, her brows drawn together waiting for clarification as to what the haughty agent was talking about. Nancy walked back, some of Johnny's suit jackets on hangers now in her hands.
“Well you know-" She gestured to Sonya. "Girls staying over. Some model for the week… or the day or even a few hours. Then after a few days I send them on their merry way.”
“Excuse me?”
“Oh don't worry, honey. It's nothing personal it's just how he is. And I just work for him.”
Nancy's eyes quickly gave her the up and down and then exited the apartment , leaving Sonya feeling like she was back in her rookie days of the Special Forces. Like the women who had just been in front of her didn’t really think much of her.
And why should she? Sonya thought, stiffly watching the actor's agent depending down the hallway and out of sight. She doesn't know me... she just thinks I’m some bimbo model.
It was just another reason for Sonya to hate this Hollywood world. Superficial and artificial, everyone being judged and judging. Her world was bigger than that. Long ago her eyes were exposed to corruption and war. Now it had been expanded, after being abducted and brought into Outworld. There were warlocks, monsters, and Gods out there and Sonya was stuck in this fake town, surrounded by people still concerned about their image.
And for a second Sonya Blade had fallen prey to it.
Just earlier today I was worried about some stupid movie premiere.
The urge to cry rose in her chest but Sonya fought against it. She had to remind herself that she was a solider, not some silly fangirl and what good would crying do? All this over some attractive action star? Johnny had save her life, yes, but now what? Would they just live together in Los Angeles while the Realms went unprotected. Was she just some one night stand to him after all this? Sonya tried not to think about that part of their relationship. They were Friends... that was all.
Still, none of it mattered in the end Not when a battle for the worlds could arise again. Sonya wasn’t sure if Liu Kang and Kitana still had a handle on Outworld since Shao Kahn lost. Plus they hadn’t heard from Raiden in weeks. And worse of all, Jax was still in recovery.
All because of me….
That was all Sonya needed. Fears set aside, She moved to the phone and began dialing with one thing on her mind: she needed to get out of California.

Chapter Text
Rain was a man who had to keep secrets in order to survive. It was a lesson learned the hard way ever since his people were conquered by Shao Kahn. Years came and went and he had learned to stay alive by any means necessary. His allegiance was neither to his former leader or the Shokan but to himself.
And Kitana.
Shao Kahn promised him a high title by his side if he served him loyally. But his childhood friend, Kitana, kept herself distanced from the court. She soon became a stranger to him, almost a recluse- devoting time to her training and studies. It bothered him how she wasn’t ready to adapt to their new rulership as easily as he was. Then again she was a Princess and their royal status made it easier for her to be defiant towards the Kahn.
Rain on the other hand was expandable if he didn’t bend the knee.
It was so different now, Rain thought as he moved through the somber castle. Changes were already starting with Kitana, soon to be crowned as their new ruler. Plans were underway for a new king- a husband. A list of suitors were already lined up at the ready, warriors vying for her hand in marriage.
The water prince knew how politics worked in the realms and he knew a women leader would never be taken seriously, not after a savage brute like Shao Kahn had brainwashed many of their people into his barbaric ways. Kitana was trying to reform them but Rain knew it would take years, maybe centuries, to undo what the Shoakan had done to their beautiful Edeian.
By acting as an advisor I shall open Ktana’s eyes to how our world truly works. Rain mused, pacing through the dark caravans o f the lower levels of the bundling. Her native hopefulness has clouded the truth.
He was searching for Shang Tsung’s secret lab, the flesh pits as so many called it. Rain knew how the sorcerer worked. He was wily and underhanded. Even if he was gone he had to be prepared for such an outcome. Afterall the magician had a secret following dedicated to their conspiracy theories around the One Being and the Kamidogu Daggers.
Kitana wisely charged Raiden to assign and separate to different warriors through the realms but refused to disclose any more information than that. Still, Rain wanted this knowledge for himself. He didn’t fully trust the Lightning God and the Princess to securely protect such valuable objects. She needed his help in ruling the Realm.
The Princess has not realized it yet. He mused, making his way to the deep underground of the palace. Change can only come from inside the system, not outside.
Rain refused to let everything he was working towards disappear in an instant. He cared for Kitana but her idealistic dreams could jeopardize the state of their world. They both needed to tread carefully.
Traitors are at every turn. He mused, running his gloved fingers over the stone walls of the cave like the hallway.
Shang Tsung’s laboratory was nearby.
He'd been ordered to investigate the sorcerer’s former quarters. Any and all research done by Shang Tsung would be confiscated, to better aid in the uprising and betrayal. The new leadership wanted to learn from his treachery so it would not happen again. Inspecting the lab could also prove useful in finding any followers we recruited. It would also be key to tracking down his right hand, Mileena. The kingdom was on high alert in search for the monster as the clone would no doubt try to overthrow the princess.
Rain wouldn’t let another chance at resorting Edenia slip away. And he would help prove useful in the eyes of Kitana. The princess was hopeful and thought to rebuild the kingdom on that. Hope. But hope was a dangerous thing.
It could be weak but he would not be… not for their realm.
Adaptation was key to survival.
The damp and leaky laboratory had Rain on edge, cautiously on the look for left over creations abandoned by the sorcerer. Dark water dripped and seeped through the cracked ceiling, falling in rhythmic taps into murky pools below. The shadowy laboratory was littered with shattered vials, scorched spellbooks, and broken relics.
Dead bodies were strewn along the walls and floors. Some fresher than others. Rain approached one body still hanging chained up, now almost devoid of blood. It was the bothersome human from Earthrealm who’d lost in the tournament. He had been just another pawn in Shang Tsung’s large plan in overtaking the realms. Bite marks covered his pale skin, with gashes slashed along the torso and neck.
Such torture, Rain thought as he traced the old dried wounds. The work of Mileena.
That creature had been here once, but judging by the decay of the body and wounds it had been days even weeks.
He stopped near a massive stone altar, etched with bloodstained runes. His fingers trace the edge of a cracked soul vessel, violet and grey mist swirled across its surface, pulsing faintly with leftover magic.
“Fool hoarded power... only to choke on it.” He murmured quietly, taking in the strange spells painted on the shrine.
“Spoken like a man above temptation.” Came a new haunting voice.
A burst of wind breezed past Rain along with the rattle of chains and glass breaking, snapping him out of his investigation. He turned to see a swirling green portal, a form stepping from the light. White, bald, and smiling with a poisonous calm. His dark eyes glowed with infernal knowledge.
“My lord.” The warlock said with a slight bow.
The ghoulish visage of the Netherrealm sorcerer had Rain ready for combat. Sunken eyes black and soulless stared back at him. Without another word the Prince pulled out his long staff hanging from his back. His Quan Chi made no move in response, still standing in that unnerving way- very rigidly and proud
“You're bold to appear here,” Rain said. “I thought you were banished to the Netherrealm.”
“A friend summoned me…”
“Shang Tsung?”
Quan Chii answered with a smile, knowing and triumphant.
“But I do have to admit it is quite dangerous for me… with Kitana’s new rule and all.”
For a moment Rain couldn’t hide his conflict over the Princess' new position, eyes briefly flickering to the side in thought before meeting the Warlock’s once more.
A wicked glint shown in Quan Chi gaze as he studied the prince. “Ahhh. Maybe I’m not the only one with my concerns.”
The two began circling one another in slow and calculation moves, waiting for the other to strike or retreat.
Neither did.
Eventually Rain pushed for more information.
“You must be very curious to search a dead man’s lair. Curious... or desperate.” In a flash the end of his staff was weaved and aimed directly under Quan Chi’s chin. “Speak your purpose before I turn you to mist.”
“I’m sure it’s the same reason you find yourself here. Shang Tsung has left me in quite the predicament."
“So you were working with him?”
“We did. While he served under Shao Kahn he was doing my bidding- research on the One Being and its powers.”
“Well it appears he has betrayed multiple partners then.”
“Indeed.” He muttered, his upper lip twitching into a sneer.
“So you've come back for his work then?”
“I did but I have yet to find what I need.” He arched his brow. “It appears you are searching for something as well. Perhaps we can help each other?”
Rain narrows his eyes, unimpressed. “Why would I do such a thing? I saw what happened the last time a Sorcerer had access to all this.”
“Yes there were whispers among the dead… Shang Tsung went mad with power?”
Rain fingers tightened around the stick of his weapon. “As would you!”
“Shang Tsung sought to seize that power at a reckless speed. I would never be so foolish.”
“This is a trick. How do I know you are still not conspiring with Shang Tsung? He could be in Netherrealm sti-”
“He was not!”
Rain’s grip on the staff loosened slightly, letting Quan Chi’s words wash over him. “He is not dead?”
The necromancer shook his head. “His soul still lingers, possibly in the void. Don’t you understand. He is a madman and could still come back. You want to be prepared. I can help you.”
“And after I help you would stab me in the back and overthrow our new leader.” His staff was now up and digging harder into sorcerers' skin.
Quan Chi left out a disgusted scoff. “I have no need for the Outworld throne.”
Rain watched as he cocked his head, the warlock’s voice taking on a tempting tone. “But perhaps… you do?”
“I would never touch your dark magic!” He hissed.
“You do not have to.” Quan Chi said with a sly smile. “Once I retain the Shang Tsung’s formulas I can use my powers to propel you to glory.
Rain let out a low chuckle, full of disbelief. “You think I want power? I am already powerful.”
To prove his point he pointed his staff in a direction away from the sorcerer and towards one dead body. A magically fused jet of water that bursting thought and disintegrating the corpse in an instant. The weapon was back and under Quan Chi’s jawline once more.
“Mhm. Not power….” The sorcerer said. “But there is something else that you desire. You desire recognition. Royalty.” Quan Chi leaned in closer. “The Princess herself.”
Rain’s brown eyes blinked, not in surprise but interest before shaking his head and pressing the staff further into Quan Chi's throat. “Impossible.”
“And what of the Earthrealmer? ” He gasped out. “The Chosen One. He is strong… you’ve seen it.”
Rain stiffened. He had. During the battle where Shao Kahn perished. And how Liu Kang had done it. He’d turned into a Dragon right before their eyes, mastering an Animality in a few hours before most Outworld warriors within years of training. Liu Kang was a dangerous being.
And he has Kitana’s ear. Her trust.
“I can help you get him out of the way! All I ask is that once you have what you want, you provide protection. Give me a position at your side. A seat in the court… I can no longer live among the dead in the Netherrealm.”
Rain eyed him carefully. “How?”
“We shall start with Shang Tsung’s secrets. And then I shall get you Kitana. The throne, her heart… all within your grasp.”
The head of the staff lowered slowly as a satisfied grin crept on Quan Chi's face. “What do you need from me?”
Taking a step back, Rain removed from himself the sorcerer’s distance. The necromancer was free to survey the dark laboratory around them.
“This space will do. I can fortify it so no one but you will know of my occupancy here but you.” He held out a pale hand.
Rain stared at it a moment before firmly grasping with his own
A deal with the devil was. He thought. It will be worth it to keep Kitana safe.
Just as quickly as their palms came together they fell apart. The Sorcerer paced about, flipping through some of Shang Tsung’ work. Still unsure of his recent decision, Rain continued to watch him explore the lab.
“So how exactly did Shang Tsung fail?” Quan Chi asked smugly, stepping over a few dead bodies as he paced about his new lodgings.
“The Earthrealmers defeated him with Sheeva’s help. It appears his marriage led to his downfall.”
Quan Chi’s smile fell.
“Marriage?”
Rain could feel his ego lift as the uncertain tone in the sorcerer’s voice. Finally something the dark necromancer didn’t know.
“Shang Tsung failed to mention that, didn't he?”
The warlock pressed his lips tight, eyes glowering at the Edenian prince.
“You understand that you cannot be seen in the kingdom of Outworld. I will come to you when I can.”
“We shall debrief on our findings back here.”
“How much.”
“I won’t know until I have access to Shang Tsung’s work but even then I would ask you to allow me residence here in the palace. We shall work together and strengthen our powers as you lead.”
There was a long pause, as Rain weighed his offer. “Just know if you betray me in any way… I will kill you.”
“If I betray you may the Elder Gods damn me, but we both know they stopped listening to us long ago.”
“Let us set things right then.”
Quan Chi's wicked smile grew. “And let us crown a new ruler.”

A biiig Rain chapter I know... BUT LOOK QUAN CHI! Up to no good! lol
Chapter Text
It had been a little over a month since Sonya Blade left Johnny Cage and the actor could still remember making the discovery. It was the night of his movie premiere. He’d follow instructions given to him by her agent- dressed and ready for press in downtown L.A waiting until Sonya arrived for the after party. He had done a round of interviews on the red carpet and was more than ready to greet his date at the restaurant hosting the event. After an hour he realized something was wrong.
She was a no show.
Johnny even called the car company that was arranged to pick her up. They only confirm what he feared. No one was waiting for a ride at the condo. Through the dark atmosphere of the Hollywood club Johnny pushed past dozens of bodies, some crew members from the film and some were just tinsel town leeches looking for a leg up. He paid them all no mind, only on a mission to find the women who had to be behind it all.
Eventually Johnny found his agent talking to a sleazy producer and dragged her to a dark corner.
“Where is she?”
“Johnny! Hiii!” She plastered on a phony smile, irritated at the interruption. “We were just talking about a sequel for-”
“Where is Sonya?”
“Sonya? Ohhh right. You mean that tall blonde from the apartment.”
The producer at her side perked up at the mention of the Special Forces agent. Johnny spared him a deadly glare before pulling Nancy away and walking them towards the back exit.
“I just gave her the rundown for the evening...” Her flippant voice trailed off as she shrugged off Johnny’s hold on her bicep.
“What. Did. You. Say?”
Nancy folded her arms across her chest, her brown eyes narrowed in defensive. “Nothing I’m sure she didn’t already know.”
Johnny did not press her for more. He knew the women well enough to know the things she could have said...or at least insinuated. She was always so disrespectful to any girl he would bring home. And if he was honest he was too. Disrespectful, uncaring, and selfish.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Johnny thought, taking a deflated step back. Not with Sonya.
Then he returned home. Back to an empty condo. The dresses he had arranged for her to choose from were still set up in the living room, one in particular draped across the couch. It was the only green dress from the bunch, beautiful and simple. It would have been perfect Sonya and Johnny felt a pang of regret that he would never get to see her in it.
She had packed one of his bags, leaving a note saying she would return it once she got settled.
Settled? Settled where? He wondered.
Thinking back he remembered Sonya mentioned living in a trailer somewhere in Gary Indiana but stopped since she was traveling with her team since they got a lead on the Red Dragon. The action starts with trying to think hard. She didn't mention any living family. Then again he didn’t really ask about that.
They had been so busy just enjoying each other.
And he missed her immediately.
Just then it hit him.
“I was thinking of going to Iowa. Stay with Jax and his wife for a bit . Keep an eye on him…”
“That's it- Jax. I’ll just make a few calls”. Johnny mumbled to himself, looking for his cell phone.
Then he stopped. What exactly would his plan be? Phone up Jax and ask for Sonya. Maybe she didn't want him around her. Was she embarrassed? Was she mad at him? He’d give her time, as much time as she needed. Whatever she needed he would give her.
That was the night that everything changed for Johnny Cage. With a fresh resolve, he began making plans for the next couple of months. For his career, lifestyle.
For Sonya.
Sonya Blade felt no guilt fleeing Los Angeles. There was fun to be had but she always knew she couldn’t stay. And the last encounter with Johnny’s Agent only confirmed it. There would be more like the L.A rep remorse Sonya didn’t want to stick around to experience. It wasn’t that she was scared- she was tired. Tired of the facade and illusion of luxury when there were real dangers still out in the world.
Still, a twinge of guilt made a home in her heart at the idea of leaving Johnny behind.
She managed to be on the plane for Iowa within hours, coach and no stops. Jax and Vera more than welcomed the idea when Sonya told them. Vera was just happy for some female company and Jax more than eager to see his partner alive and well.
Vera met her at the airport and from there it was two hours back to the Brigg’s house into the middle of nowhere- a scenic little farm with yards of land to harvest and create.
The travel wasn’t bad for a woman like Sonya Blade, with years of military experience under her belt she could be on the world's most uncomfortable cot and get a peaceful night's sleep. Still fatigue crept its way into her system as soon as she got out of the pick up truck. With Jax still sleeping Vera assured Sonya they could all talk later, and insisted they also get some kind of rest.
It must have been a hell of a rest because the next thing Sonya woke up only to read the clock by her bed. It was noon.
With stretch Sonya got up and walked out to the open window, drawn to the sound of tractor mowing across the land. Through the shiny afternoon sunshine, her eyes landed on the man in overalls and baseball cap, the dark skin on his back now glistening with sweat by the brutal sun's rays.
She smiled.
Jackson Briggs… back on the farm.
It was always his happy place when he wasn’t traveling with the Special Forces. By the looks of everything Vera had kept things in phenomenal condition. Sonya wondered if there were farms hands on hand to help her.
In the midst of her musings Sonya’s attention was suddenly caught when a sharp gleam blinded her briefly. She squinted harder at the man below her. Powering the steering wheel were ten large digits made of metal. Staring in disbelief, her eyes travel upwards to the massive steel arms sticking out from the flannel shirt.
“Jax,” Sonya muttered silently. “What the hell have you done?”
