I'm YELLING jfc! I don't have a massive frame of reference for audiobooks (I really struggle with not tuning them out, attention span of a dog) but your voice. So incredibly pleasing and soothing to listen to! I can't believe the effort this must have taken, can't believe these are my words, can't believe how gorgeously you tell it. I really can't even tell you what it means to me that you wanted to do this, and have done it so lovingly and beautifully.   I listened to the rest, including your dissection/notes/comments at the end and oh my god. I actually teared up when you were talking about Laurent feeling out of place and everything that comes with that, his cynicism and the way it is all informed by his trauma - it's just incredibly overwhelming to me, to hear my intention described so well by someone else. I'm honestly so emotional. I put so much into this piece of writing, and I carry so much self-doubt in general but specifically around my work, that I almost can't comprehend someone understanding it so deeply and creating such a beautiful thing as a result. Really, I can't thank you enough. I'm so incredibly humbled by your efforts and (ironically) don't have the words to explain how grateful I am to you 🖤

You have an excellent reading voice. I have read this chapter and a lot of the rest of the story at least a couple of times, but I started hearing things as you read that didn't strike me so much when I was reading it. So you're comment about reading it yourself out loud is different than reading it in your own mind sounds like a similar reaction. I almost never do audiobooks, I put this was good enough that I might be tempted in the long run if you do more to make the time to listen. Thanks for posting.

I really love the way you’re voicing Damen because his sincerity just rings through so clearly, which at this point just makes the jokes hit so well because Laurent is so bemused by him 😂
I got sooooo giddy when you started talking about the comedic beats in Laurent’s rationalising, leading up to the denial of his reality and self-blame — you’re so spot on!! Pitch perfect analysis 🖤🖤🖤
Hearing you laugh at my silly jokes was such a delight as well 🖤 thank you so much! I still can’t believe this!
EDIT: and ALSO, the idea of Laurent standing out vs. wanting to be ignored — yes, exactly! There is also the notion of Damen dressing him in a chiton which, at this stage of the narrative, is actually a protection. It exposes him and leaves him vulnerable, a heavy-handed visual metaphor for the way his emotional and psychological stability has been stripped, but it is also a disguise and an armour of a sort. I.e., Damen is protecting him already, yet he doesn’t realise it yet.

  Chapter 2 is so incredibly perfect, we get to have to simultaneous experiences Laurent freaking out and also just the hilarity that ensues when someone else is distressed - Laurent might laugh later we can laugh now !!!
  Ohhhh i am actually grazing my knees now thinking about the chiton as being a disguise and thus being armor despite exposing laurent in ways he would not usually choose. Damen clothing him still makes me want to roll on a granulesss of salt (positive) <3 <3 <3 thank you so much for listening B!!! ahhh this literally made my DAYYY!!!!

Just GORGEOUS once again. The commentary about Damen as a leader, i.e. being a leader is about serving - SO spot on, I can't believe how correct you are. It was so important for me to continually show that Damen is not only the heir, he is the right person to lead because of the love he has for his country and people (this being, obviously, another reason that Laurent falls in love with him). I loved everything you said about their different reasons for information gathering as well, because yes! The way they complement each other, how they are matched in many ways but each bring something to the partnership which the other does not have, is a big part of why I even write them at all.
I feel like such a narcissist, but as I listen to your commentary I find myself giving you snaps and being like "YESSSSSS" because you're so correct all the time <3 Obsessed with youuuuuuu thanksssss

Honestly I am falling more in love with every chapter, also love the use of accents makes it very enjoyable (XD). Also the comments you made about Laurent rationalising his position and having the need to gain an advantage even though he would never actually betray Damen (cuz that would fuck with history but also cuz it is Damen aka his fated partner) was so interesting to listen too. You have a very captivating way of explaining your thoughts.

FYI if it's pre-relationship, fic shouldn't be tagged Damen/Laurent - clutters up the search results for relationship fic. Should be tagged "Damen, Laurent" separately.

  Hey, thank so much for your suggestion. DAMEN/LAURENT means they are a ship in the story regardless of when their relationship starts. If you are looking for 'Established Lamen' you should type that in to the search bar! Hope this helps

This was so intense, i think hearing it all happen is even more confronting than just reading is. I was so drawn into the narrative I was literally just sitting here and listening as if I was watching it happen myself.
And from Laurent's pov it must've been traumatic to see this kind of brutality happen especially because he is from the modern time where this just does not happen anymore. But strangely I understand the coldness that he shows. To me it kind of feels like he is dissociating to a point. The freezing up, but still being aware of what is happening yet being unable to move. Being looked at as though he is the monster. Trauma can often evoke a sense of numbness that makes it seem like outwardly there is no emotion while on the inside it is anything but that.
Not to mention how kind Damen is and remains to be throughout this whole ordeal. This must almost feel as confronting as the lashing itself did. To see someone take that for you out of... adoration? (As you said it is more than love but it is hard to put the right term on it). I'm glad that Laurent is realising that Damen truly perceives him fully and lets Laurent make mistake yet is still shielding him from whatever harm those choices might entail.
This whole chapter brought on so many thoughts where I could probably ramble on about for hours.

  Gosh yes, Laurent absolutely disociates! If you check out phlegmatics tumblr they talk about disociative episodes in survivors of csa. High violence would absolutely be a trigger for him particularly because in his mind, it is happening because of him. He completeley underestimated the kind of stakes the ancient world was dealing in and theres something so sort of poetic.. about Damen bearing the brunt of it for him (and damen is happy to, in fact damen intervenes to faciliitae that exact outcome).
