Steve was pacing, nerves were taking over. His parents truly did suck, this was such an outdated practice, yet the whole town was in on it. Steve Harrington, queen of Hawkins high, was finally of age so all eligible alphas were invited to the Harrington household to ‘hunt’ the omega.

It was much like that of wild game hunting, the alphas could go in alone or as a team of two. Any means, minus weapons, were allowed to find, and claim the omega as their own. Steve was shaking, his mother smiled as she cupped his face softly. “Steve, I know you’re angry bu-.”

“It’s tradition, how do you think your father and I became a couple?”

Steve lowered his eyes. “Ho..how many people are here?”

“Trying for your hand?”

“Six individuals, one team.”

Steve bit his lip, he was thankful there weren't as many as he thought there would be but what he didn’t realize was that his parents had turned a lot of people down due to age and because they actually did have a certain amount of people they would allow into the hunt for their omega sons hand.

“Who all is it?”

“The team is Eddie Munson and Billy Hargrove,” Steve’s eyes widened in surprise, they actually planned to join this hunt? He was reeling. He was also surprised they had teamed up. “There is also Jason, Patrick, and Andy.” Steve knew they were on the basketball team, he lowered his eyes softly. He did not want this.

“Who else?”

“Jonathan Byers.”

Steve let out a soft whine, this was insane.

“A boy I don’t know, I think he said his name was Gareth.” Steve’s eyes widened, Gareth? Like the boy in Eddie’s Band? He was honestly surprised he had tried for it. “There is also a surprise this year,” she smiled softly as she ran her fingers through his hair. “Nancy Wheeler.”

“Nancy?!”

“She joined, we let her. Couldn’t send her away since she is a girl, she is technically an alpha.”

Steve began to pace. “W-wait bu-..”

“It’s almost time.” She smiled as she took his hand. “I remember I was very nervous, so so nervous. I know you’ll be okay. Big smiles, you run and you hide. You let your wolf guide you to the right alpha, or alphas.” She kissed his forehead softly. “I know you’ll be okay.”

“You can do this, it will end when an alpha, or alpha team catches you, pins you, and claims their bite, some may choose to take you before the others it's up to them.” Steve grimaced at her statement.

“What if I don’t want to be claimed, mother?”

“It is no time to wonder that now, it is only time to make sure the right alpha or alpha's claim you.”

Steve mumbled a bit to himself, this didn’t feel right. He wasn’t ready or prepared, he certainly wasn’t ready. This was terrifying to him, how was he supposed to out run all the alphas.

If he remembered right they had ten hours to try and catch him, Steve had a ten minute head start in the field surrounded by trees to run or hide. He had a collar on that didn’t allow him to leave the designated area either so he couldn’t just high tail it to another state in hopes of a better chance.

His mom hadn’t helped the situation when she picked his outfit for today, he was practically wearing a crop top that exposed his stomach and cut off just before his pecks. He was wearing leggings that would be easy to tear into.

This was hell.

His parents were quite literally giving him over to a pack of wolves. “Now Stevie remember,” his mother brushed her thumb over his cheek, “you can run, and fight but you cannot leave the marked area. You have here, the house itself, and the woods but you cannot leave the space. This will shock you.”

“This.. This doesn’t seem like a good idea.”

“You’ll be fine,” she smiled, squeezing his hands tightly. She rubbed a few different scents over his body to throw the others off. She was absolutely shaking. “You’ve got this baby.”

“If I last ten hours I’m safe right?”

“Right, but no one has ever lasted more than five.”

He rolled his eyes, of course she knew that. Of course she had to say that to him. He was absolutely terrified of this game of chase. Steve looked over his mother. “Anything else I should know?”

“We.. Well your father,” her eyes lowered for a moment before they popped back up to examine him, “he told them they were allowed to chase you in their wolf forms.”

Steve blanched. He couldn’t morph, it had always been a problem since he was a pup so he was supposed to be out running not only just alphas, but alphas in their wolf forms. He was fucking screwed.

“He did what?”

“They were willing to pay a higher entry fee.”

“You’re going to be okay.”

Steve whimpered it was time for him to be shown off before the initial chase. His mother took his hand and dragged him before the crowd, Steve’s face flushed as they waved to him. A few boys howled, Nancy smiled giving him a soft careful look.

He couldn’t do this. How in the hell was he supposed to do this. His father stepped up beside him. “Now, we know everyone is excited. Remember the area is outlined in white tape, Steve cannot leave the outline. The woods, this field, and the house are all fair game. Any means necessary except for weapons, other than your teeth or claws, can be used to catch our sweet omega here.”

Steve whimpered a bit as his father squeezed his shoulders. “Who is ready for the hunt?”

The alphas all whooped and howled. “Now remember, you can be in and out of your wolf forms. Now, my wife will come and blindfold each of you, a timer will be set. Once the timer runs down you can remove the blindfolds and go for the gold.”

Steve gave his father a look, he hated this.

His mother went and blindfolded all of the waiting alphas. “The timer starts, now!”

Steve looked them over for a moment as he made his way in front of the alphas to confuse their scents. He zigzagged in a few different directions, before taking off towards the woods. He couldn’t morph, but he could climb. He made it halfway into the woods before he climbed up a tree, he was trying to slow his breathing. He felt his hands shaking but he was determined to survive these ten hours without being caught.

Steve’s father kept an eye on the timer, he was interested to see who would end up with his son. Steve was as high up in the tree as he could be without possibly falling out.

“Time to get chasing!” Steve’s father barked. The alphas howled in excitement as they pulled their blindfolds free, a few morphed instantly such as Gareth and Jason. Eddie and Billy looked between one another, they took off towards the woods. A few headed into the house, Nancy followed Eddie and Billy.

Steve clutched the tree branch trying not to fall. “Do you smell him at all?” Billy asked softly.

“No,” Eddie replied, “but also yes. He’s been all over these woods, this is his home.”

The two continued to hunt, they morphed and began to sniff and search. Nancy was searching as well, until Jason raced past her. She fell to her knees as he pushed her over. She morphed and chased after him, now she was just mad.

Steve heard the sounds of leaves crunching below him. He sucked in his breath, he was praying his scent was hidden. He heard a few barks and yelps, he poked his head over the side and spotted two wolves right under him, one was smaller and had sleek brown fur while the other had dirty blond fur. Jason and Nancy.

He tried not to make a noise, he noticed that Nancy was yapping at Jason.

He kept his hand over his mouth, he was terrified. The two alphas continue to bark at one another, their argument clearly kept them distracted enough from noticing him above them. He watched them run off and continue sniffing the air. Steve carefully climbed down the tree, he peeked his head around the corner before running off back towards the house. He didn’t spot any alpha but he did in fact see his parents. He gave them a dirty look before he rushed into the house, he instantly stiffened when he sniffed the air. Someone was there, he tried not to make a lot of noise as he went to hide in a cupboard he had emptied out to hide. He held the cupboard door praying no one came by.

He heard the front door open and close, he kept his eyes closed trying to keep his breathing steady. He was trembling, he knew he smelt of fear but he just hoped they couldn’t smell it through the rubbed on scents and blockers. He heard the door open again, and a voice spooked him.

Jason.

“Oh ‘mega where are you?”

Steve tried not to react, he hoped he couldn’t hear or smell him. He heard his footsteps coming close, he held the door tightly. This wasn’t happening, this couldn’t happen. Jason was searching, he could smell Steve. He had been in the house at some point in the last little bit. Jason searched the area before making his way up the stairs, Steve let out a shaky breath before he slowly opened the door slightly, he looked around before he heard the footsteps coming back down the stairs. He slowly closed the door holding it tightly, Jason left the house and went to search the property.

Steve slunk out quickly before heading up to the roof, he climbed up and wrapped his arms around his knees. He kept a close watch from above, his hands kept shaking. He couldn’t believe this was actually happening, he didn’t understand why his parents thought this would be a good idea.

He spotted the alphas running about the yard, they were tussling with one another and yapping. They couldn't find Steve but they sure were looking for the omega, there were too many alphas in the yard. They were growing frustrated, they wanted to find this damn omega. Billy, Eddie, and Jason were sniffing around the house. Billy was sniffing around in the kitchen when he found the cupboard. Steve couldn’t hear or see much, he attempted to climb down the back of the house when he and Eddie locked eyes through a window. Steve quickly scrambled down the ladder. He didn’t turn around as he heard barking from behind him. Steve raced away, he was trying to force his wolf to come out but he couldn’t for the life of himself. Tears ran down his face as he ran towards the woods. He tripped over his own feet tumbling to the ground. He let out a yelp as he hit the floor.

Steve tried to get back up before they pushed him back to the floor before they spotted everyone was around, even those who had tried to also find and catch Steve. This was their chance, they needed to claim and breed their omega.
