The thin line between protection and possession

Summary:

Hinata Shouyo is living his dream. An omega hero who’s fighting on the front lines to defeat villains, along with his pack and team the Karasuno Crows. He even has an arch nemesis, just like all the best Heros do, the infamous King of the Aoba Johsai pack. But what happens when the villains discover he’s an omega? Villains with a very… traditional view of what it means to be an alpha or omega?

Basically Haikyuu boys in the BHNA universe with quirks/powers, and also omegaverse.

How quirks work/drawbacks

Elastic body: Can stretch body, also immune to most physical damage (bullets bounce off etc). Cold will make it so he cannot stretch. Loses strength if stretching too far

Game Play: Gives allies a token, and then they will appear on a physical game board as a moveable piece. Can see everything the player characters can, from a far distance. When moving the pieces the player will be physically moved as well. Game board will be about a 20 mile radius around the player characters. Can communicate with those holding tokens. Players have to accept the token and be consciously aware of the fact that they are a player character. Game master is VERY vulnerable while using quirk as they must put all their focus on the game and will only see/hear what the player characters see/hear, nothing about their own surroundings. If player character’s lose token Suga can no longer move them/see them/hear them.

Precognition: Enters a meditative state and will see exactly 30 minutes into the future of the room they are in. Will see the future as it is if they make no changes in their behavior, so future can be changed if behavior changed. Ennoshita can also see into peoples specific futures, but it involves mediating together and full trust/cooperation, so he doesn’t use that part very often.

Spider monkey: Super powered agility (jump/run/leap) can stick to/scale walls. Super powered constitution. Super powered stamina. However if pushed past limits will completely crash.

Laser beam eyes: laser beams from eyes. Can control when they go off. If he uses it too much too quickly he loses sight for a bit.

Healing hands: Hands emit healing energy. Using quirk causes him to overheat, and will eventually hit heat exhaustion/heat stroke if not cooled down/ take a break.

Gigantism: can grow much larger, can choose individual body parts or full body. Can choose how big up to a certain size limit. Has to wear special clothing so they don’t rip.

Kinetic explosion: Gathers energy within body and then throws himself against an object to induce an explosion. Cannot be harmed by own explosions.

Water manipulation: can manipulate water. Cannot generate water though, must already be water in the area.

Cool breath: Breath produces a subarctic chill. Can freeze and/or give extreme frost bite to enemies. If used too much the user will get a very sore throat.

Drawing: Anything the user draws they can pull off the paper and it will become real. The better the drawing the more accurate to real life the object will be. Drains the users energy until eventually they fall asleep.

Strategy: Can see the probabilities of every single strategy option as physical percentages in mind. Able to understand what the likely outcomes and possibilities are even without knowing anything about the situation/enemy. Will immediately recognize and understand if the probabilities change.

Body link: Essentially pulls the spirit/soul of someone into the users body. Other person will see and hear what the user does. User gains ability to use the quirk of the person they pulled in, also gains all memories of the person. The other person is left extremely vulnerable as their body is essentially lifeless, completely immobile.

Mind control: can give orders that must be obeyed. The level of control over the person depends on a few things. Can give short small commands with eye contact. Physical touch leads to great commands. Can almost fully control those who have a close intimate relationship. Physical pain will almost always break the control.

Metal manipulation: manipulate metal. Cannot generate metal so must already be available to them.

Manipulate technology: “hack” into any piece of technology, but done by essentially the soul entering the digital world. Physical body is very vulnerable during this time as senses and focus are based on wherever the technology they’re hacking into is, not where their physical body is.

Super speed: Very fast.

Wings: large white wings that can be used for flight. Can detach feathers and use as weapons or for spying, can hear/see through feathers

Teleportation: can teleport. Can only go places that they have been before/can envision very well.

Energy beam: Beams of energy from hands. Hands will eventually start to burn if overused.

Chapter Text

Hinata laughed as he dodged a kick, the long legs of his opponent flying by his head at a nearly super speed. Leaping into the air to avoid the appendage making contact with his body.

“I guess you are more than just your quirk then, huh king? If I didn’t know better I would have thought you had super strength!”

He called out, teasing his enemy. The other boy looked at him with cold, angry eyes, as if he couldn’t believe the smaller boy had managed to avoid his kick.

Hinata wasn’t sure why he was so surprised. He often avoided the physical attacks of the villain, King as he was known. Ever since he’d realized how the dark haired boy’s quirk worked he had been able to effectively evade it for the most part.

All he had to do was avoid eye contact which was easy enough. He thought back to their first encounter, the one where he’d been thoroughly bested by his now self declared rival.

He hadn’t done any research on him, simply charging in guns blazing ready to fight, in a typical Hinata style. Usually Suga did all of the strategy planning for them, but Hinata had been patrolling alone that night without one of Suga’s tokens. And what a mistake that had been.

All it took was a single moment of eye contact and the command to “stay still” and Hinata found his body completely frozen.

Yeah, that had been a bad night. King had bound his hands before beginning to hit him, the pain immediately freeing him from his trance. But left immobile by the bindings he’d been able to do nothing beyond just take the beating.

He’d sworn that night that he would never again take such a crushing loss. So he did his research, studying up on the boy with the mind control quirk, learning the limitations of it.

From what he could tell you needed to make eye contact with King for him to be able to control you, and so Hinata simply avoided looking him in the eye. It wasn’t easy at first and he would make several mistakes. But over time it became second nature, fighting without looking the other in the face.

Even without his quirk the other was a tough opponent, clearly having cultivated his fighting skills so as to not be reliant on his quirk. And Hinata loved fighting him. He would love it more if he could actually capture the other, bring him to justice. But annoyingly whenever he got close, that stupid turnip head Breacher would show up and teleport the other to safety.

“Oi you damn spider monkey! Quit running all over the place and fight me!”

Another kick had Hinata leaping towards a building, clawing onto the walls, grateful that his quirk allowed him to scale walls. Spider monkey, an insult, the name of his quirk, and his own hero name. Able to leap and jump to impossible heights, climb walls and scale buildings, not to mention his super powered stamina.

“I am fighting you King, just not in the way you want.”

While Hinata was enjoying the fight he knew he needed to work on wrapping it up. He could feel himself beginning to breathe harder, his limbs feeling heavier, palms sweating as he continued to cling to the building.

He’d been out on a solo night patrol, and was starting to make his way home when he’d been attacked. He was nearing the end of his stamina reservers he knew, and he didn’t want to be anywhere near the other once he was fully depleted. Ideally he would be at home, in his nest, resting up for the next shift.

Maybe have Yamaguchi come in to heal him up a bit, kick start the stamina regain. Yeah… that sounds like a nice plan.

A harsh impact into his stomach breaks him from his day dream, and separates his grip from the wall. Fuck… he’s falling.

Scrambling to reattach himself he skids down the building, managing to make just enough contact to break his fall and keep him from injuring himself. He lands on the ground, feet first, breathing heavy.

He doubles over on impact, strength leaving him, stamina entirely wiped out from the energy used to keep from crashing.

He hears footsteps approach, and feels it as King crouches down over him.

He’s smirking to himself, finally he’s bested that damn spider monkey. Kageyama is glad that his idea paid off, ambushing the boy immediately following a patrol, making sure he’d spent the majority of his super charged stamina already while Kageyama was at full energy.

As he approached the the boy who was nearly passed out on the ground he noticed something odd, on the back of his neck. A white rectangle, covering where a scent glad should be.

Kageyama frowned, he’d assumed the boy was a beta, since he had no scent. But why would a beta be wearing a scent patch? Surely he wasn’t an alpha? He was so small, that had to be impossible.

Crouching down he watched as the boy struggled to breathe, and found himself frowning, he wasn’t feeling the overwhelming sense of victory he thought he would.

He felt his arm reaching out without thinking about it, and he tugged at the rectangle, removing it from his neck. Immediately a sweet smell of oranges and vanilla hit his nose. He stared, wide eyed and in shock at the now passed out form on the ground.

“Holy shit, an omega.”

He couldn’t believe it. What the hell kind of team were the Karasuno Crows to have an omega fighting on the front lines? And by himself? That was way too reckless, too dangerous. He found himself growing angry, once again hating Hero Society and all their misdeeds.

He pet at the shock of orange hair on the small boy, lifting him up into his arms.

“It’s ok, you’re going to be ok.” He murmured to the boy, as he pulled out his communicator.

“King, coming in. Breacher, come pick me up. I’ve got someone with me as well. I’ll explain once we’re home.”

Within minutes of his message his spiky haired teammate arrived, having used his own teleportation quirk to instantly be where Kageyama was.

“Uhh is that Spider Monkey? Ya know we’re not supposed to bring hero’s back to base…”

“He’s an omega, smell him. They’ve had him fighting on the front lines, we’re saving him. The others will understand, it’s not the first time we’ve done this.”

Kindaichi nodded, having recognized the scent of an omega, realizing it was the hero- well, former hero now he supposed- in Kageyama’s arms. Their leader would agree, the little omega needed their protection, since clearly his team, his pack wasn’t interested in keeping their vulnerable members safe.

Reaching out to place a hand on both of the other two’s shoulders he teleported them back to the home base.

Chapter Text

Kageyama carefully placed the small body onto his bed, pulling up the covers to tuck the sleeping boy in. He wasn’t sure why exactly he felt such a pull to him, it certainly went beyond his normal protectiveness over his omega teammates and friends.

He smiled to himself, he had been the last single one of his teammates, he supposed it was past time for him to have found his own omega. And he’d certainly found quite the beauty, quite the special omega hadn’t he?

He sighed, not wanting to leave the omega- his omega, alone. But he knew he needed to explain things to the pack leader. Before leaving the room though he found and placed a quirk canceling cuff on him. A standard procedure, it would be removed in time, once he was able to trust that the boy understood his new role in life, and understood that everything that was happening was for his own good.

“Sleep well my sunshine. I’ll be back soon, I promise.” He gave a quick kiss to the boy’s forehead before heading out, locking the door from the outside as he went.

All of the pack was already gathered in the living room, looked like Kindaichi had already given a brief explanation. Kageyama walked forward until he was in front of their pack alpha, Iwaizumi Hajime, also known by his villain name, double trouble.

The older alpha looked at him, his facial expression and scent letting Kageyama know that he was upset. But the younger knew him well enough to know it wasn’t him he was upset at. No he was mad about the very same thing that had filled Kageyama himself with rage.

“Sir, by now I’m sure you know that the former hero known as Spider Monkey is here at base, and that he is an omega. And has been fighting on the front line as well as doing solo patrols since he joined the Karasuno Crows.”

This caused the other’s nostrils to flare, the anger bleeding even heavier into his scent. He took a moment to calm himself before he spoke.

“I had my suspicions that the crows had more omegas than we knew about. The only ones we’ve been able to confirm are the Game Master and Serendipity, but those two stay at their base at all times, never entering the battles themselves. So I left it alone. I can see now, that was a mistake. Good job, Kageyama, on recusing the boy.

Be warned that it will be… a while… before he understands that this is a rescue. That this is for his own protection, his own good. Omegas can be stubborn like that.”

He smiled at that, thinking of his past with his own mate, Toruu had been ridiculously stubborn, it had taken the better part of a year for the omega to come around.

“Kuroo, have Kenma do some digging, we need to find out all there is to know about this Spider Monkey, and once he’s finished have him look into all the Crows. We need to establish whether or not there are other omegas on the front line.

We’ll work on planning a rescue mission once we figure out how many they have. There are three of them specifically that should be looked into. Ones that, like spider monkey, I convinced myself were just betas, not wanting to even think that a pack would put their most vulnerable members in that sort of danger.”

“Yes sir! Which three members?” The rooster haired alpha was quick to answer his pack leader, his own anger having grown, imagining his Kenma being forced into the physical battle field. It was disgusting.

“Rolling Thunder, Survival Boy, and The Artist. There are a lot of signs there with those three. We need to establish their true gender identity.”

“On it.” And then the dark haired alpha was gone, running to his mate to have him begin the process of looking into the Crows.

The room was silent again. The pack alphas all trying to digest the information, the idea that a hero pack would be so reckless with their own.

It was one thing to have omegas on the team, supporting the others from the safety of the Den, they themselves had omega team members who did just that. But it was another thing entirely to have them taking part in the physical fights, especially alone.

“You… you think the Crows have other omegas fighting?” Kageyama hadn’t considered that. And he felt himself embarrassed that he hadn’t thought of the others on the team. He had been so caught up in the safety of his omega, that he had neglected to realize the distinct possibility that other omegas were also in danger.

Iwaizumi sighed, frowning.

“I do. I’ve had strong suspicions for a while, but didn’t want to confront the possibility. Even for heros this is extreme, disgusting. Especially with Spider Monkey and Rolling Thunder, they tend to be leading the charge. It’s not so bad with the other two, they’re more support oriented, and are able to keep away from the battle for the most part. Being dragged in only when needed. But they’re still there, still far from the safety of their den where they should be. But we’ll wait for Kenma’s analysis before speaking more on that.

For now- start working to acclimate your omega to his new home and life. I’ll let the others know that they have a new one joining their rank. Toruu should be able to help some as well, it’s his job as head omega to help welcome the new omegas into the pack after all.

Now go, you probably don’t want him to wake up by himself.”

That was all Kageyama needed before he turned, running back to his room, praying that he arrived before the small omega awoke.

Chapter Text

Hinata’s head hurt, well his whole body hurt really. But the pounding in his head was the most severe of the pain. He was exhausted, body feeling heavy in a way that he knew wasn’t natural. It was beyond the way he normally felt after pushing his quirk past his limits, far beyond the normal tired and pain he would feel.

No… instead of feeling like he simply had no stamina or strength left, it was as if he had no access to it at all. As if it was hidden away, locked up with a key that he didn’t have.

He groaned as he looked down and realized he was wearing a quirk canceling cuff.

“Fuck those bastards!” He whispered.

He welcomed the anger, vastly preferring it to the pain, confusion and fear that had been steadily growing in him. The sour scent had begun to cloud up the unfamiliar room.

Wait… why, could he smell himself? That… that wasn’t right. A trembling hand reached to the back of his neck, expecting to feel the familiar feeling of the scent patch, but instead… nothing. His scent gland totally exposed, his scent free to spread, his every emotion evident.

“No no no! Shit, fuck! This can’t be happening.”

He was panicking, the air curdling as he sunk deeper into his mind. This wasn’t good, he knew that much.

Kageyama’s eyes grew wide as he got closer to his room, he can smell the sharp, sour scent of a distressed omega. Cursing himself for not being faster, not being there when the other woke up to explain what was going on.

He flung his door open, pushing out a calming pheromone, working to keep his own emotions in check. Distressed omegas were easily overwhelmed by the scents of intense emotions.

He found himself being grateful that Iwaizumi had made it mandatory to practice emotional and scent control. For the alphas anyways, the omegas were actively discouraged from pulling in their scent, the pack alphas needing to be able to tell how they were feeling in order to adequately care for them.

“You! Where the hell am I? And why the fuck did you bring me here?” The orange haired boy immediately yells at the other as soon as he enters the room.

Sniffing at the air he realizes that this is King’s room, he curses himself for not realizing it sooner. The room absolutely stank of the alphas scent of fresh rain with a hint of coffee.

“It’s ok, try and calm down for me ok? I’ll forgive the cursing for now, I know this is a lot to take in. But please try and be mindful of your language in the future.”

The alpha began to approach the bed, hands up as if in surrender, trying to show that he means no harm. That he’s safe.

The omega, predictably, backs up as he approaches, eyes narrowed into a glare, though he was careful to avoid eye contact.

“You didn’t answer any of my questions!” The boy practically growled.

Kageyama sighed, before turning to answer the other.

“You’re in our room, in the pack den. And you’re here because we’re protecting you.”

“Protecting me?! You’re all villains! Even if I needed protection- which I certainly don’t, by the way- I definitely wouldn’t need it from you!”

“It’s funny that you’re calling us villains when your former team uses omegas to fight on the front line! That’s absurd, and disgusting. Practically criminal.”

“Ha! So you’re a bunch of sexist knot-heads. I should have known. Newsflash King, omegas can do anything that alphas can. There are no laws against omega heros!”

The boy was right, there weren’t any laws against it per say. But it wasn’t exactly common or totally acceptable. Most omega heros played support roles, usually involving strategy planning or healing and almost always from a far distance being kept safely away from the heat of battle.

Hinata hated that, he had never wanted to settle for a support role, and his quirk was much better suited to fighting than support. It had been like a dream come true when he’d met Noya, or Rolling Thunder as the press called him, and realized that there were teams that allowed omegas to actually fight.

“I don’t care what the law says. Laws are useless, morality and ethics are what matter. And you, being a front line fighter? That’s neither moral nor ethical. You’ll realize that eventually. Just like the others.”

It was then that Hinata realized what Kageyama had said earlier, that Hinata was in “their” room. Not his room, but theirs.

“W-wait. What do you mean when you say “our” room? A-and who are the others?” He couldn’t help the spike of fear that bled through into his scent. He finds himself wishing that he had spent more time working on his scent control, he was so used to the scent patches that he never really bothered with it.

Kageyama released more soothing pheromones in response to the fear filling the room. Hinata hated that he could feel it working.

“I mean what I said. That this is our room now, you live here, with me. And as for the others, well, you’ll meet them soon. The other omegas of the pack.”

Hinata’s jaw dropped. Other omegas? He had thought that Aoba Johsai was an all alpha team? Suga and Daichi never mentioned any omegas anyways.

“Yes, there are omegas in the pack. They do support work for us, from the safety of the Den, as it should be.”

The boy looked up, and flinched, not realizing just how close the alpha had gotten. He was on the bed now, kneeling in front of Hinata. A large hand reached out to cup the omega’s cheek.

The face felt warm, and soft, and fit within Kageyama’s hand absolutely perfectly. Everything about this boy just felt… so right, so perfect. He could feel his inner alpha filling with pride at having found and captured such a wonderful omega.

He smiled, a real genuine smile, not the scary fake smile he was infamous for, as he looked down at the ball of sunshine on his bed. He thinks back on their shared past, all the fights, and winces a bit about how much he’s hurt him over the past six months.

He had been confused about why he felt so drawn to the hero. Normally Kageyama didn’t care at all about others outside of his pack, certainly not enough to think of them the way he had been with Spider Monkey. He’d thought it was because the boy was one of the first to give him a real challenge, one of the first to beat him in a fight. But now? Well, he’s pretty sure that he instinctively knew that he was an omega, his alpha pushing for him to continue engaging, to seek him out as much as possible.

Hinata trembled, wanting to yank out of the other’s grip, but all too aware of just how powerless he was. Literally in the sense that they took away his quirk.

“Will you tell me your name? My name is Kageyama Tobio.” The alpha asked, hopeful. He would learn it eventually he knew, with Kenma looking into it there was nothing that the boy could hide. But he so wanted the other to give it to him willingly.

He watched as the other’s face screwed up, clearly not wanting to give away any personal information.

“It’s ok if you don’t. I’ll know soon enough, I just wanted to give you the chance to tell me yourself.”

“W-what?”

“We have a hacker on the team, it’s related to his quirk. He’s looking into you, so it won’t be long before I know.”

“Well I guess you’ll just have to wait then!” The boy said angrily.

Kageyama sighed, the boy was stubborn that much was for sure. But he found it didn’t bother him- not really. In fact his alpha found it exciting, the idea of convincing him to submit. To show him just how worthy Kageyama was of his submission. But baby steps, first he needed to make him more comfortable.

“Ya know, I’m surprised that you haven’t just forced me to tell you. With your whole mind control quirk and all, can’t be that hard.” The words were bitter and acidic on Hinata’s tongue. God what he wouldn’t give for a scent patch right about now, he wasn’t used to smelling and tasting his own emotions.

The alpha frowned at that statement.

“I won’t do that, not for something like this anyways. I would only use my quirk on you if I thought you were in danger. Or trying to leave but I consider that as being in danger.”

“Well I am just charmed” the omega said sarcastically.

A buzzing noise had Kageyama glancing down at his phone, a text from Kenma had appeared.

Kenma: His name is Hinata Shouyo. I’m emailing you his file now. Just figured you’d want the name ASAP.

Kageyama: Thank you.

Putting his phone back in his pocket he turned to the omega, Hinata, smiling at him.

“What’s with the creepy face?” He deadpanned.

“My face is not creepy Hinata.”

And oh… yes, he liked that. Liked the shiver he saw go through his body as he realized just how powerful Kageyama was.

But just as quickly the mask was back, the omega trying so hard to keep his fear from being seen. Useless as it was, he had absolutely no control over his scent, no way to keep his emotions hidden. Most heroes didn’t, not really, too overly reliant on scent patches that they were forced to wear daily.

“My pack will come for me. They’ll find me.”

“Your former pack you mean. And I hope they do come, my pack alpha has some things to… discuss with them.”

Hinata’s face paled at the implication, was this all a trap?

“I know what you’re thinking. No it’s not some trap. But we now know that they’ve let at least one omega fight on the front lines, so there’s a good chance that others are as well. We’ll figure out who the omegas are and rescue them as well. Bring them to safety.”

“They don’t need rescuing! They’re all happy and love what they do!” His lip curling up as he yelled.

Kageyama smiled and leaned in, whispering into Hinata’s ear.

“So we were right. There are others.”

Chapter Text

The Karasuno pack house was in a panic. Hinata should have been pack from his night patrol hours ago, and while yes the omega was often late it was never by more than an hour or two. They were now on hour eight.

Sugawara paced, taking out his game board and cursing shouyo’s forgetfulness. He was supposed to bring a token with him, while on solo patrol so that Suga could look for him if things went south. But like many mornings the small gold coin was on his bedside table, instead of safely tucked into his hero costume. A line life, gone.

“It’ll be ok. He probably just fell asleep somewhere after over exerting himself. We’ll find him, I promise.”

Daichi, suga’s mate had come up behind him, rubbing his shoulders, attempting to comfort his worried omega. Though he didn’t even believe his own words, so he couldn’t imagine they were very effective at calming the other.

“This doesn’t feel right. He’s not answering texts or calls either. Ennoshita is trying to track the cell signal and it doesn’t seem to be moving any. Something’s wrong Daichi, I know it.”

The brown haired alpha frowned, as usual Suga was already five steps ahead of him. Truly the other boy was the mastermind and brains of the whole operation, without him their pack never would have made it this far.

And now, one of their own was missing.

“We’ll go to where the cell phone last pinged, and verify if he’s there or if… he’s not.”

“He’s not. I can tell you that for sure. How many are going?”

Suga started to spread out his game board, readying himself for his part of the mission. He would make sure that everyone made it home safely, that was his job.

“All of us. Or all of us that normally go out. I’ve already let Ennoshita know to come down here, so that he can keep guard. The rest of us will leave in exactly 30 minutes. I’ve made sure everyone has their token as well.”

Suga nodded, grabbing eight figurines and setting them up on his board, ready for when he was needed.

Before Suga could ask anymore questions the door opened, a sleepy eyed omega entering the room.

Ennoshita took his normal spot, crossing his legs and beginning to sink into his meditation. His breathing slowed as his consciousness entered the future, 30 minutes into the future to be exact. He saw himself, in his normal meditative state, and Suga worrying over the board and players, moving a few around this way or that. His focus was glued to the door though, watching out for any surprise enemy attacks that may be coming for them.

“I’m going to go make sure the others are ready. I love you, Suga. We will find him.”

“I love you too Daichi.” Suga said, with none of his normal cheer or joking. Too worried about their missing pack member.

Daichi left the room, locking it behind him, trusting Suga to keep them all safe and trusting Ennoshita to keep Suga safe.

He walked back to the common room where all the other pack members were waiting, fully dressed in their hero costumes, ready and waiting for orders.

“Alright. Let’s go find Shouyo.”

Chapter 6

Notes:

Hi!! I’m alive lol.

I was looking for a fic to read and found this one and realized… it was my fic that I never finished haha. Read it and decided to write another chapter!

I’m not a great writer and I write on my phone so excuse any spelling or grammar errors. I just like this idea so I wanted to continue it.

I cannot promise prompt updates as my job is super busy, but who knows maybe I’ll write more soon!

Chapter Text

Suga bit his lower lip, seeing through Daichi’s eyes while brushing his thumb against the blue coin that represented his mate. Nothing yet. No danger but also… no Shoyo.

They’d arrived to where his cellphone had last pinged, a dark alleyway. But instead of a passed out body, taken down by overuse of his quirk there was nothing but silence.

“All right, everyone fan out and look around. There’s got to be some sort clue somewhere.”

Suga heard the chorus of “yes sir” from all their pack mates as clear as if he were there himself.

He could feel himself getting overwhelmed, all the various sights and sounds crashing into his brain at once. He took a breath to steady himself, focusing in on Daichi’s perspective, letting the others drift in his peripheral.

“Ummmm c-captain? I I think I found something.”

Yamaguchi’s timid voice spoke up, as he held a small white patch of fabric in slightly trembling hands.

“It smells like Shoyo.”

“Fuck. Why would he take off his scent patch? He knows that’s not safe! Not for an omega.”

Possibilities and thoughts raced through Daichi’s brain, each one worse than the next. Shoyo wasn’t ok. He had failed a member of his pack.

“Calm down captain, panicking isn’t going to help anything. We need to focus on what we know and what we can do.”

Tsukushima’s words were blunt, startling Daichi out of the swirling panic that had begun to blind him.

“Yeah.. yeah you’re right. We should head back to the den. Now that we know this isn’t a simple pick up we’ll need to make a better plan to find him.

Survival Boy, Artist, and Rolling Thunder, you all need to stick close to other members of the pack. One omega has already been taken, we can’t let them get another.”

Yamaguchi and Yachi were quick to vocalize their agreement. Noya grumbled a bit under his breath but didn’t press their pack alpha, knowing now was not the time to argue.

The team turned, and started to make their way back to their base, unaware of the security cameras that had been following their every move.

——————————————————————-

Kenma gasped as he was brought back into his own body, clutching at the soft blankets that made up his nest reminding himself that he was back in the real world again.

“Kitten? Are you ok? Did you find out anything important?”

The worry at the edge of Kuroo’s voice brought Kenma all the way into the present. His mate always panicked when he used his quirk, though Kenma had explained time and again that there was no danger beyond leaving his physical body vulnerable. He often preferred being inside technology, it felt more natural to him.

“Iwaizumi was right. About which members of the Crows are omegas. I also managed to find their pack house. Well I know what it looks like, I’m not 100% sure of the address yet but I’ll find it soon.”

A yawn broke out as Kenma spoke, drained from how long he had used his quirk. It hadn’t been easy, he had been watching the alleyway that Kageyama had taken Hinata from for two hours waiting for the hero team to show up.

“You did so good kitten. Sleep now, get your energy back. I’ll go talk to Iwaizumi and we’ll make a plan to rescue the others.”

Kuroo placed a soft kiss on his omega’s forehead, the smaller boy already drifting off to sleep.

Chapter 7

Notes:

Another update?? What can I say, I want to read this but no one else is gonna write it so I must! Plus work has been awful these past couple weeks and I need an escape haha.

Once again- I’m not the best writer ever, but hopefully I’ll get better by the end of this story. And I write on my phone so excuse any mistakes please.

Enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Hinata had been left alone once again in the King’s room. Not their room, no matter how much the alpha tried to insist it was. It would never be Hinata’s room, with any luck he wouldn’t be in it for too much longer before his pack came and rescued him.

The alpha had told him that he needed to go attend a pack meeting and he would be back soon. Had offered up pillows, blankets, and some of his clothing, “in case Shoyo wanted to build a nest”.

“Yeah right, a nest can only be built where an omega is most comfortable, Baka-Yama.” He’d sneered at the other, sticking his tongue out.

“Suit yourself. But the stuff is all there if you want it. You’ll start to feel more comfortable once you have nest.”

Shoyo fought to keep his anger in check remembering the others words. Acting like an authority on omegas, like he knew better than Shoyo did about his own gender. Alphas like that were the absolute worst! And it seemed he’d found himself in a whole pack of them.

“Stupid alpha, acting like he knows everything! Acting like he can make decisions for me! I hate him, I hate him, I hate him!”

Screaming didn’t feel as good as he’d hoped it would. Normally a good yelling session would help him, take the edge off the anger and allow him to think more clearly. But his brain was still muddled and fuzzy, the anger, fear, and sadness in his scent filling the room. He couldn’t think like this, with all the smells assaulting his nose. His own, and the alpha’s scent that drenched the room he’d been forced in. Gods he missed scent patches already, he’s taken for granted how nice it was to not be forced to smell someone’s every emotion- including his own. It was beyond overwhelming.

A knock at the door startled him out of his thoughts and self pity.

“G-go away!” He spat, as he dove under the covers pulling the blanket over his head. Shit maybe he should have built a nest… maybe he’d at least feel safer.

“Yeah, I don’t think so. I’m coming in.”

Shoyo didn’t recognize the voice nor scent of the person who entered the room. But he could tell immediately that it was an omega. Were there any omegas in Aoba Johsai? He couldn’t remember ever fighting with one.

“W-who are you?”

The tall, brown haired omega smirked at the question and proudly answered . “I am the great Oikawa Toru! The Mastermind, the brains of this whole operation you might say!”

“Mastermind? Why… why does that name sound familiar? I know I haven’t fought you before…”

“Of course you haven’t Chibi-chan! I don’t fight on the front lines. None of the omegas here do. We’re not allowed to since it’s not safe. But there are plenty of other ways we can help out from behind the scenes.”

Something about the other omega’s tone seemed… off. As if he didn’t fully believe what he was saying. But his scent seemed earnest and true, from what Shoyo could tell. Though he didn’t fully trust his nose at this point, all the different scents mixing were giving him the worst headache.

“Ugh does anyone around here wear scent patches?? I can’t stand all these smells!”

At Oikawa’s quirked brow and slightly offended look, the smaller boy started rambling. “Not… not that you smell bad per se… it’s just.. a lot. I’m not used to this, in my pack we wear scent patches all the time except for in our own rooms.”

The taller omega laughed at that. “No, no one here wears scent patches, ever. The alphas are all fairly trained at keeping their scents in check, but they only do it when they want to. The omegas, not so much. We’re all supposed to be very… open with our scents. It helps our alphas assess our emotional state and what we might need from them at any given time. You’ll get used to it, but it can be pretty overwhelming at first.”

“I don’t plan on getting used to it. I’ll be out of here long before that could happen.” Shoyo bristled at the idea of being stuck here long enough for his body to adjust to all the scents and emotions that bombarded his nose.

“Unlikely. But I love the spirit! A word to the wise though, might want to refrain from saying such things in front of your alpha- I know I know, you don’t consider him your alpha. But he does consider you his omega. Being consistently punished will not help you escape.”

Shoyo pouted, hating that the other was right. At the very least keeping quiet about escaping was probably a good idea.

“Whatever.”

Before Oikawa could say anything else the door opened again. And there was that scent flooding the room- the same one that had already saturated the very floors and walls he was contained in. Kageyama was back.

“Oiii who said you could be in here?”

“Don’t be like that King. It’s my job as head omega to welcome the new recruits, help them feel comfortable and safe. And if you’ll look a little harder you’ll see I did a great job thank you very much! I mean he certainly didn’t have that lovely nest built before I came in.”

It felt like Shoyo was doused in ice cold water. He looked around and realized… he was in a nest… he’d built a nest. Blankets and pillows expertly woven together, even some of the clothing Kageyama had left out for him made its way into the structure. When… when had that happened? While he was speaking with Oikawa? But, but why?

The other two ignored the clearly confused omega sitting in the brand new nest he couldn’t remember constructing.

“Well? Aren’t you going to say anything?”

“Fine. Thanks. Now get out, I don’t want him getting overwhelmed with too many scents. He’s probably not used to it yet.”

“Too late on that one. His own scent overwhelms him, let alone adding yours or anyone else’s. Ta-ta you love birds. Have fun!” Toru’s voice was cheerful and he winked at Kageyama before exiting the room, giggling at the frustration on the younger boy’s face.

His expression shifted as soon as the door shut. He was exhausted, talking to newly… acquired.. omegas always took a lot out of him. They always reminded him so much of himself. Of how he’d once been. Hinata, or Spider Monkey as he went by was no different. Perhaps even the most similar one so far.

He stiffened as he felt arms encircle his waist from behind.

“Hey… how’d it go?” A chase kiss was placed on the side of his neck, next to the bonding mark that changed his life.

“Hmmmm it went alright. I got him to build a nest, not consciously though. Just was able to distract him enough that his body went through the motions.”

“That’s a good sign though. Not everyone builds a nest on the first day. You certainly didn’t.” He can feel the lips still on his neck curve into a smile, and wonders, not for the first time, how differently the two of them remember the early days. Iwaizumi seems to think of them fondly, while for Toru… they were the stuff of nightmares. Days he’d rather forget entirely.

“Yes, well not everyone is as lucky to have an awesome head omega like me guiding them through the transition Iwa-chan. Some of us had to go through it alone.”

The omega almost pouted at the statement, while the alpha just chuckled.

“I know, I know. You’re the best and most amazing head omega there’s ever been Toru. Thank you. For everything.”

Toru hummed, waiting for the alpha to continue. He knew he wasn’t done yet.

“Speaking of how amazing you are… I need your help.”

“Naturally. What is it this time?”

“It’s been confirmed there are three other omega’s fighting on the front lines for the Crows, we need to figure out how to rescue them. Plus the two we already knew about, who support from their base, but they’re in less danger and are less of a priority. I need you to help us come up with a plan.”

Toru sighed, he knew this was coming. He was going to have to help his pack, his alpha take more omegas from their lives, their choice to be heros and fight. He understood the convictions of his pack mates, truly understood why they believed what they did. But it was still so hard.

“Ok. Let’s get to planning then.”

Notes:

What do we think of Oikawa? I want him to be very… conflicted character. I have a backstory for him that will hopefully start to show through more in the coming chapters!

Should next chapter be: introducing more of the Aoba Johsai omegas? Or an attempt to “rescue” one or more of the Karasuno omegas?
