Reignited Skylander Dragons - General Headcanons

Summary:

Perhaps there were more younger dragons than what was originally thought... Currently, there are great efforts being done to reunite them with their proper clans, but a lot of them seem to be finding their way back to each other on their own. For those who've returned, their new daily lives will consist of studying and training to pursue professions appropriate to their clans and personal adaptations. These headcanons are meant to explore how the Skylanders dragons fit into the 'Classic/ Reignited' Spyro timeline.

*Set sometime after the defeat of the Sorceress but before the Sorcerer as more dragons are likely to come out of hiding and communication is slowly being reestablished between the Dragon Realms, Avalar, and the Forgotten Realms.

Update: Chapters marked with * have been updated.

---

It feels good to be able to organize my thoughts once more on the crisp page of a blank notebook as my travels have exposed me to the best news our people have received in centuries. This Year of the Dragon has blessed our Realms with what is essentially a 'Baby Boom', an impressive number of dragon hatchlings are present in every inhabited Dragon Realm, and more are being discovered on a daily basis.

The search efforts have been forwarded by, of all dragons, Spyro of Artisans. The exact same Spyro who openly admitted to setting livestock ablaze for his own entertainment and who also thought he could get away with not bathing for a full year without anyone noticing. Yes. Our Spyro. I'll admit I had reasonable doubt when it came to his heroics, but the boy has always been blessed with incredible luck since birth, so I knew he would at the very least return from his misadventures alive. Though nobody could've predicted what happened next. To my delight and eternal bewilderment, young Spyro has directly aided his people by bringing the hatchlings back to our realms but not before defeating several dastardly, outright genocidal villains:

1. There was Gnasty Gnorc who hired Thieves to take the 12 eggs we had assumed to be the remainder of the next generation for unknown reasons. Defeated by Spyro ~5 years ago. Returned to his trash heap in Gnorc Gnexus with a good deal of his magical artifacts confiscated.

2. Ripto the Riptoc, he pilfered no eggs. In all honesty, he was quite unremarkable, but he is familiar with our species which raises a whole host of questions about his background. Defeated by Spyro ~4 years ago. Currently incarcerated in Peace Keepers.

3. The Sorceress of the Forgotten Realms, approximately 150 eggs were discovered across her 'kingdom'. According to her former apprentice, Bianca, she was using dragon wings as a means to keep herself perpetually youthful. There are likely more to be uncovered in the rubble of her reign. The slimy-scaled witch was rightfully destroyed by Spyro ~3 years ago.

4. Redford of Beast Makers, 80 eggs were taken during his near successful and rather abrupt takeover of the Dragon Realms. Whether or not he had direct involvement in orchestrating the kidnapping is to be determined. Defeated by Spyro ~1 years ago. Incarcerated in Peace Keepers.

5. The Sorcerer, currently unknown how many eggs are in his possession. But Kaitlin of Beast Makers has reported a hooded creature ransacking the Terrace Village hatchery. ~ 1 week ago Spyro has made it his mission to personally meet this 'Sorcerer' character.

But we've made an incredible discovery that surpasses everything written in importance so far, young dragons are making their way back to us, dragons around Spyro's age, which leads me to conclude, due to their age, that their eggs somehow managed to avoid the evil clutches of the Sorceress. It lines up perfectly with my theories:

  • She had the largest hoard of eggs, 150+ scattered around the Forgotten Realms. The most out of any of Spyro's foes.
  • She managed to keep herself alive for over a thousand years. Sustaining herself on the hatchlings' limbs, but without proper conditions, namely a living dragon to facilitate the actual hatching... I shudder to think how she obtained their wings for her insidious spells.
  • Her magic was weakening, our entire former kingdom's, all of the Forgotten Realms' magic was weakening, so getting away from her was far easier than in previous decades, and eggs did hatch, so perhaps a dragon who avoided the initial banishment aided them in their escape. This unknown event is exceedingly irksome to me! Who was left behind? Who would have the gall to betray her and run the risk of forfeiting their own life? Without leads, I'm at a loss, it's all still so damn unclear to me!

On a much-needed lighter note, I've had the pleasure of meeting a good portion of the youths and learning their stories and from which cultures they were born into. I have recorded my findings on the children and to put it simply... They are a colorful bunch.

Chapter 2: Bash

Summary:

Research Notes: He's rough in appearance and demeanor. He barely spared me a glance when I spoke to him, though I suppose the fault was mine as I was directly interrupting his Peace Keeper training regimen. I wonder how long he can continue to roll like he does before he begins suffering from vertigo. Focus Argus, that is a question for another day! From what I've gathered from our brief meeting, he has clear, healthy eyes, a strong spirit, and no wings, this must be the work of the Sorceress, the boy appeared apprehensive about the subject, traumatized even, he could hardly speak of his disfigurement. To hold such a brave face dusk to dawn, I imagine it must be very tiring!

Chapter Text

*

  • Hardheaded and out to prove himself as a worthy protector of the innocent, and he works tirelessly to keep from being a burden to anyone. He's not striving to be the perfect soldier or a great military leader... No... He just wants to be a hero. He just has to work on his gruffness and impatience, which for the ever-tenacious dragon is his hardest challenge yet.

  • A wingless Peace Keeper, not an uncommon sight among their clan, except he was born without his. He's incredibly sensitive about his lack of wings, but he's far from defenseless. Not being one to back down when threatened, he can roll through solid stone walls like a cannonball and emerge unscathed; his brick-like mace of a tail can flatten Gnorcs into pancakes, and due to his unique skills, he's been promoted to Private First Class in the Army.

  • He met Spyro while training in Artisans after nearly rolling over him and it was a mutual 'I don't like him' at first sight. They can't stand each other, claiming that the other is compulsive, stubborn, and too quick to play hero. Wow, pot meet kettle. Bash was open to meeting more dragons his age until his attempt at befriending one saw him get coldly rejected by a young Magic Crafter dragoness. He's been hurt and guarded ever since that day and prefers to be alone now.

  • He was adopted by the Flying Hippos of Shady Oasis, and he didn't learn that he was a dragon until he carefully examined the preserved eggshell that Grundy said he'd hatched from. An emptied egg that highly resembled the egg found in the marble palm of the memorialized dragon hero named 'Spyro'. A figure who decorated many walls in the Oasis' elaborate halls…  And then it all clicked.

  • Years of eating from the Great Berry Bush has made him near invulnerable as his scales grew tougher and thicker across his body. He was briefly bummed when it turned out they wouldn't make him bigger, but he soon got over it after discovering he could basically survive what would be a deathblow for anyone else and walk away without a scratch. Though his uncovered, highly vulnerable joints are his weak spots as not only are the scales considerably softer to allow movement, they're also sensitive to the touch meaning Bash is ticklish to a certain degree. To add on to that downside, he can't really feel soft touches such as pats, pokes, or pinches, so if the people closest to him want to get his attention, they better give a harder nudge or whisper a quick 'pssst'.

  • “Fear not my dear, sweet child, your Uncle Conan will bestow upon you a name befitting a solid fellow such as yourself.” Oh no, of all the Peace Keepers to give him a suitable 'clan name' it just had to be Conan! He made peace with being called Bash for the next few centuries due to the elder’s indecisiveness and his blubbering got so bad that an irritated Magnus blurted out a very exasperated “Alright, alright, don’t hurt yourself, Conan! From here on out, little buddy, us Peace Keepers will call you Baldur.”

Notes:

(*Chapter Summaries written from Argus' perspective)
The idea for the 'clan name' was born out of necessity, because there's no way the elders would, in good conscience, let these children walk around with names like 'Bash' or 'Blackout', absolutely not! Also, I really liked the naming conventions of each clan and wanted the Skylanders to be a part of it.

Chapter 3: Blades

Summary:

Research Notes: This child is a powerful Magic Crafter prodigy! Quite a stylish one at that, though it would benefit him greatly to adjust the coloring of his armor to that of his clan's signature plum and gold, but I'm only nitpicking superficial details. His wings are intact, thank heavens, and the actual meeting with the boy proved to be beneficial for my studies on Elemental Magic with his unprompted demonstrations of his Wind, and I was taken aback by what a polite young man he was, remarkably courteous and notably affable! Yes, I believe our Spyro could learn a lot by befriending this one!

Chapter Text

*

  • Heart of gold, wings of steel, he'd gladly lay his life down to protect the weak and innocent. He's a solo act, and, despite his outwardly gracious and bouncy demeanor, works terribly with his allies. A contributing factor being his naive arrogance and unintentional underestimation of other's abilities, staples of his personality that frequently cause him to get into battles where supposedly 'weak' enemies are oftentimes victorious.

  • A Peace Keeper parading about as Magic Crafter... No, he's got to be something else with all that Wind power he's dishing out. Ask him and he'll cheekily say both. Though, Magic Crafters aren't typically super assertive or highly skilled swordsman, Blades is a humongous exception to that stereotype in many ways. He's adept at using his Element of Wind, more than a lot of full-grown Magic Crafters were at his age, then again most Magic Crafters weren't self-taught knights raised and trained by Weather Imps to manipulate weather patterns, so there’s that.

  • Ember was actually the one seeking him out, 'The Great Keeper of the Sky', not knowing that he was in fact a dragon, and something was bound to happen with all the buttons and switches Ember was pressing on a giant Cloudy Domain airship. She was trying to bulldoze her way through her mission and quickly find this warrior so they could spar, though she never would've imagined that she would come face to face with an inhabitant of said ship, much less a dragon at that. Ember immediately apologized and then obediently sat through Blades’ wordy explanation of how not to operate the Weather Machines in Cloudy Domain and lightly reprimanded her for blowing up the ship’s Hail Turret Defense System. Fast forward a handful of months, and one reintroduction into dragon civilization later, and Ember and Blades are thick as thieves having bonded over their similar weaponry, heroic ideals, and love of training.

  • He hatched in Cloudy Domain and was raised in Cloud Spires by the Weather Imps who put baby Blades to work using his wind abilities to splice and reposition clouds and, after he showed great talent for it, taught him how to create contained cyclones along with sonic booms. Nowadays, he can read Weather patterns with his sense of smell and if foolishly prompted can go on at great length, and in great detail about everything and anything related to clouds and atmospheric phenomena.

  • His eye-catching set of armor was fashioned from the spare parts of a decommissioned wind turbine as a ‘Thank You’ gift from the denizens of Metropolis after he bravely stopped an invasion from a Sheep UFO Mothership. It was a grueling battle, both sides were at a standstill, until the cleverer Blades discovered the greatest weakness the Mothership had... Unlocked doors. Ha! No Magic required, just a little breath of fire, and the Sheep onboard were overcooked mutton. Now expect to hear this story told over and over again in finer detail whenever someone makes a passing reference or remark towards his unusual metallic garments.

  • A name fit for a Magic Crafter paladin renowned for his powerful wings and excellent Elemental control over Wind, this was serious business, and Magic Crafters, the fanciful and fussy clan they are, were taking their sweet, sweet time with this one. One whole month to be precise. Great-great-great grandfather Altair... had nothing. Leader of the clan Cosmos... needed more time. And then they appeared, like angels descending from their golden mountaintops, the joyously eccentric ‘Wizard Peak Pack’, who were overprepared for the young one’s arrival and practically name dumped on an overwhelmed Blades. Lucas, wanting to keep the boy calm and comfortable during their intense first impression, had to hush his unorganized brothers in order for him to get the last suggested name out, a name so striking and gallant that Blades would've been downright foolish to reject it, a name fit for him… Cygnus.

Notes:

(*Chapter Summaries written from Argus' perspective)
He is my favorite Air Dragon design, though I feel it would have made a lot more sense if he was an Earth Elemental considering he's covered head-to-toe with literal metal, but what's done is done. One other thing I want to discuss, no, HAVE to discuss is his voice. I have to say that the accent, Scottish I believe, caught me WAY off guard, I fully expected him to sound like generic fantasy knight #5787, but what we got was more than excellent and fit his character more than what I cobbled together from his pictures!

Chapter 4: Camo

Summary:

Research Notes: This one was high-spirited and literally bouncing off the walls when I asked if he would like to be interviewed. I was told beforehand about his eccentricities and affinity for practical jokes, but I'm no stranger to being the target of a childish prank. And maybe it was my no-nonsense attitude, because in my experience, he was a well-behaved boy, though I assume his explosive devices being confiscated prior to my arrival effectively culled his mischievous spirit for an hour or two. As I examined him, I noted that he does not have wings, only scarred tissue on the remaining shreds of wing membrane along his back indicating a rather crude and hasty amputation took place.

Chapter Text

*

  • Never seen anywhere without an ear-to-ear smile, Camo is loquacious, high-energy, and good-humored, he can't go ten minutes without cracking a joke or pulling a prank on his friends. He's frustratingly callow and has a hard time reading the room on occasion but if a prank goes too far or someone's hurt due to his actions, he'll be the first to rush in to clean up his mess. Yet despite his blatant immaturity, he’s a difficult kid to truly dislike since he's the living embodiment of a ray of sunshine and always genuine when he takes accountability for his pranking overstepping others' boundaries.

  • A Beast Maker with a fondness for his pollinators, specifically bees and wasps, though he does share a baseline love for all pollinators present in the Dragon Realms. He is so weak for his creations that he'll sometimes take the workload off their miniscule shoulders by dousing himself with pollen, literally dumping the stuff on his body before running around and shaking the powdery substance off like a madman amongst the various flora in Beast Makers.

  • The exploding fruit trick was getting old really quick and Spyro was about to confront him after the undisclosed 'Pineapple Chair Incident'. But their pre-fight trash talk immediately ceases when both parties can't stop laughing at a sudden funny face or an eye-rolling pun and, after a short apology, they're off to go prank some unsuspecting Banana Boys. Camo and Spyro are good pals to each other and full-blown menaces to the general population with their endless supply of practical jokes.

  • Camo has been taken care of by his patient Firefly brothers in Spooky Swamp for as long as he could remember. He'd be the first to admit that he was more of a nuisance when he was younger and would frequently construct watermelon bombs, mango landmines, and grape grenades to prank them with. There was this one time awhile back he tried to prank this visiting Mountain Kangaroo, but she caught him rigging a rotten mushroom to sink into the ground upon contact and she flipped the situation on its head by sneaking up on him and giving the ground a startling stomp. He toppled over in surprise, of course, but he was so fixated on why she called him a ‘cheeky dragon’ that he didn’t have time to feel embarrassed nor did he let the Kangaroo in on why he was setting booby traps in the first place. He had a million questions about what exactly a 'dragon' was, and the Kangaroo mentioned a good friend of hers named 'Spyro' and Camo was so ecstatic at the realization that he might be a dragon that he fell into his own sinking mushroom trap.

  • He can handle his spicy foods like its nobody business, and by 'spicy food' this includes food he adds spice to, because he regularly puts 'Ghost Pepper Jam' on his toast at breakfast along with any other food items he deems worthy of spice. He'll hound Lyle day and night to do a trade with him so Camo can make his infamous four million Scoville unit ‘Banana Pepper Jelly’, Camo trades him spicy exotic peppers and Lyle hands over his homegrown exotic bananas, and everyone's happy. And since Lyle values his life, he doesn't eat any peppers grown by Camo, but the carnivorous plants he cultivates can't seem to get enough of the junior gardener's fatal produce.

  • Him and Bubba are like two peas in a pod, the very first day they met neither would shut up and they talked for five hours straight. They almost forgot what their original mission was until they were bluntly reminded by Zeke that the boy still needed a clan name, so they came up with around fifty in ten minutes, but they let little Camo make the final decision. “I like that one... And I like the other ones too. Hm... Aha! Solution! You guys can call me Lychee-Loquat-Leif-Camo the First”. He chose that drawn-out name on purpose to tease the elders, he knew it, they knew it, so to keep from humoring him too much, they still refer to him by his birthname, Camo.

Notes:

(*Chapter Summaries written from Argus' perspective)
I wondered why some dragons don't have wings in the Skylanders' universe and Camo became my biggest inspiration to write this story in the first place because I wanted the source of suffering to be the Sorceress. She canonically took the baby dragons' wings and I personally headcanon that she either tossed out their half alive bodies to a random realm or straight up killed them depending on her mood. I find it highly unlikely that she sent them back to the Dragon Realms on account of her diminishing powers not being able to reach the opposite side of the world again and... Why stop at collecting wings when their other organs likely hold the same life sustaining properties?

Chapter 5: Drobot

Summary:

Research Notes: Praise be to the Ancestors! An Artisan child was destined for us, and he is a brilliant inventor no less. His mind is strategical, and his heart is warm, a perfect balance, and I was thoroughly impressed, and more than a little envious, of his ability to continue his work while holding eye contact and answering questions. Alas, that heavy machinery covers over 90% of his back and makes it impossible for me to determine if anything remains of his wings or if he's fashioned himself a marvelous set of prosthetics.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

*

  • Hyper intelligent, he doesn't just think inside and outside the box, he learns its chemical composition and documents his findings, too. His extreme rationality and need for order can make him fidgety and intrusive but chaos and disorder never perturb Drobot, they only inspire him to formulate solutions to control as many chaotic factors as he can, especially ones he wasn't asked to solve. Therefore, it is highly recommended that he receives constant mental stimulation in the form of puzzles, experiments, or complex astrophysics equations or else he'll start deconstructing and reconstructing everything in sight until he's tasked with a more important objective.

  •  Declared himself to be an Artisan though in truth he doesn't really care which clan accepts him. He'll let the other dragons decide on their own, because he has little time for idle chit-chat while he's tinkering away in his workshop. So far, the little inventor has completely revamped the waterways of Artisans and implemented waterphobic walkways in Oswin's library all to increase efficiency and quality of life. Although, for the sake of being polite, they do wish he would include their input first before going forward with development.

  • Spyro gave him that oh-so clever nickname 'Drobot', a sorry portmanteau of 'Dragon' and 'Robot', which amused the inventor so much that he decided to adopt the nickname. In fact, he may even introduce himself as his newly attained alter ego first to new faces before ever divulging his true name. Furthermore, when it comes to his personal experiences with Spyro, from the information gathered from his hand-written character analysis of his purple peer, it’s clear he considers Spyro and the dragons as a whole as invaluable members of his family.

  • Raised by Electrolls in Hurricos, he's always been surrounded by heavy machinery and electrified cogs since he was a toddler, so he knows a thing or sixty about thermodynamics and geotechnical engineering, and he was more than willing to fight against the plunderous Gear Grinders for his people. What stopped him for years was that his signature tech suit had been stuck in its pre-alpha stages for ages, his helmet circuitry wasn’t even completed yet, and with every blackout that occurred on Hurricos, crucial data codes would be lost, and without those physical enhancements there wasn't much he could do as Drobot outside of his suit was no match against the superior brawn of his adversaries.

  • No outside dragons, except three trusted individuals, Lindar, Nestor, and Claude, will ever see Drobot without his armor on and he's made them swear on their lives not to divulge details regarding his true appearance to anyone. While the latter two are rigid when it comes to keeping that promise, Uncle Lindar, wanting to poke fun at his newest nephew, openly describes him as nothing other than 'cute' to those who inquire about the prodigy.

  • “I am Volt”. Well, that saves the Artisans, Peace Keepers, and whoever else a great deal of time, he already had himself a clan name, and a good one too. Technically it was the name he received from his adoptive family, but he'd much rather be known as that second after 'Drobot'.

Notes:

(*Chapter Summaries written from Argus' perspective)
From my research, which definitely didn't include memes, I found out that Drobot is incredibly overpowered and near untouchable due to the sheer amount of projectiles and damage he can consistently put out in the games. He is incredible and I'm glad that he was the only Tech Dragon, because I don't believe our world could handle another Tech Dragon.

Chapter 6: Echo

Summary:

Research Notes: A rare female dragon with features I've never witnessed on any living dragon before. She has prominent frilIs from head to tail, no visible wings, and tough scale plating reminiscent of a seahorse, and, with her aquatic features, I assumed her to be a Beast Maker, but, to my utter perplexment, she was not. This young one is an exquisite Artisan whose mere speaking voice is considered to hold hypnotic properties, I refute those claims as hearsay and drivel from superstitious locals, but I do partially understand how they came to other conclusions about Miss Echo. I once wrote a thesis paper about dragons imbuing the land around them with magic many years ago but each encounter I have with these found children leads me to believe the opposite to be true as well.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

*

  • Exuberant, brash, and inattentive, she's always off in her own world rocking to the many genres of sound there are through her favorite pair of seashell headphones that she can be spotted wearing from dawn to dusk like a second skin. She's a tomboy who occasionally partakes in crude pranks and raucous behavior, much to the annoyance of her elders, but underneath the spikey punk accessories and heavy eyeliner, she's one of the most approachable and loyal dragons to ever grace the Dragon Realms.

  • An aspiring ethnomusicologist and singer-songwriter, she utilizes her deep knowledge of differing cultures music as inspirations for her own music. She may try and downplay it, but she is a scholar of the musical arts, being able to decipher the cultural origin of a song based on a simple melody. The Artisans were more than happy to claim her as one of their own. Moreover, she is a rarity in that she was born wingless, having no indication of ever having wings, no amputation scars, no nothing, and there's a rumor spreading around Beast Makers that she may be a descendant of the Legendary Great Sea Dragon of ancient dragon folklore. She hasn't heard any of these groundless rumors but knowing about them won't change much except her mood by giving her a good laugh.

  • Who knew Artisan talent shows could be so... Deafening? From Stone Hill to Dark Hollow to Town Square and back she could be heard clear as day bellowing out an original song. She won that golden trophy and coupon for a months' worth of free ice cream by quite literally blowing away the competition with her voice, and Spyro, amazed by her talents, befriended her as soon as the ringing in his ears stopped. After about a week of rest, the two Artisans met and bonded over their similar tastes in music through 'Jam Sessions' where Spyro becomes the amateur lyricist, and she plays along by improvising an accompanying melody.

  • "I'm from Idol Springs, we dance and sing every day, but I'm warning ya, it's not for the faint of heart". Thank heavens she was found by the openminded and festive Green Colosi, it's what a musically inclined gal like Echo needed to blossom into the adorable songstress that she is today. Besides, anyone else would've been driven insane by her constant humming and harmonious vocalizations.

  • Once sang a note so high that she shattered over twenty windows in Town Square. She was grounded for a long time after that and was forbidden to do vocal warm-ups in the realm indefinitely. That's fine by her, the beach caves along the Artisans' coastlines have superior acoustics anyway.

  • The bookworms in Dark Hollow said they had the naming of the child covered and little Echo became little 'Alta'. When asked if she liked her name, she nodded her head with fervor but with her headphones blasting hard rock at over three hundred decibels and her eyes closed who really knows.

Notes:

(*Chapter Summaries written from Argus' perspective)
I've been gone for a long time for a few different reasons:
1. College Touring/ Applications
2. Wisdom Teeth Removal
3. Writer's Block/ General lack of Motivation
I have no set schedule, I just write whenever as usual, but I am trying to knock out a few of my drafts.

Chapter 7: Fire Kraken

Summary:

Research Notes: The first time we met; I came to the startling realization that I’ve never been greeted with a cartwheel before; it was quite endearing. But I couldn’t help but notice that his nimble actions weren’t impeded by the weight of wings, those telltale scars appeared once again, though I doubt aerial maneuvers interest him much anyway when he has practically perfected his own genre of dance without them. In my lifetime, I've witnessed the birth of a handful of wonderfully talented Artisan dancers, though none have practiced their art in the same life-threatening manner as young Fire Kraken. A flaming baton lit at both ends is the most absurd thing I've seen in a long time, and I've cohabitated with Dream Weavers and Magic Crafters before, but I’m not being as fair as I should be. Fire Kraken has enough experience with the instrument to wield it without grievous injury to himself or others, so I won’t give him too much grief during his dangerously blistering demonstrations.

Chapter Text

*

  • An extrovert with signature flare, Kraken can hardly contain his excitement for everything he comes across in the world, it's like he's been locked away for most of his life. He strictly lives by the saying 'try everything once' as there's very little he won't do if a memorable experience is at hand. He's quieter when alone, though he would never allow that to happen as he regularly checks up on everyone around him, not out of boredom or nosiness, but purely because of his love of talking to people and making friends.

  • A Magic Crafter with little control over his fire breath, he's basically a walking talking fire hazard whenever he tries to breathe it. So, he adapted and learned that the best way to handle an open flame is by using an external conduit coupled with precise movements for both entertainment and battle. He practices a rather rare form of magic informally classified as 'Elemental Dancing' that very, very few dragons practice in modern times. It scares away candidates because of how grueling and physically demanding it is for most and it is considered 'outdated' as there are plenty of far more efficient, not to mention easier ways of casting spells.

  • Spyro was introduced to Kraken by none other than Elora who always knew him to be the 'Alchemist's Nephew' but didn't know he was a dragon until Spyro and the Professor entered her life. She assumed little Kraken was a Lava Lizard not a dragon, but looking back on this fact makes her feel a little silly seeing as he could breathe fire just not to the degree she had expected from the Professor’s detailed seminars on dragonology. Though she couldn’t have been happier when the two met because it was an instant friendship, Fire Kraken never turns anyone who loves his dancing away, especially world-renowned yet humble heroes like Spyro.

  • The Alchemist in Fracture Hills found a younger, weaker Fire Kraken outside his home one night and adopted him on the spot. The dragon claimed to have escaped from his involuntary servitude as Fireworks Factory's heavily overworked mascot after he incurred the Sorceress' wrath by purposefully destroying one of her Triplet Fire Dragons! And she has a very different definition for the phrase ‘Termination of Employment’. Now under the incautious eye of the Alchemist, he's become something of a lab assistant for him, constantly gathering supplies or returning equipment that the Satyr often forgets to, and it’s a strangely fulfilling role for him.

  • He street performs in Dragon Shores sometimes to entertain the Gnorcs and guests with his elegant and stylish dance moves. It's how he gets a little pocket change, and each glittering gem is being saved for something spectacularly mundane... A brand-new staff from Magic Crafters! The Magic Crafters themselves found it quite unnecessary for him to be working in Dragon Shores when he could be studying with them or any number of things without mingling with the Gnorcs, they even offered to give him a staff free of charge, but he refused, determined to earn his prize by his own hands.

  • Spyro's young dragon friends all but forced themselves into being the ones to give him a clan name since they know a thing or three about fire related names. This name had to be powerful, awe-inspiring, and distinct according to Ember, Flame, and Cynder respectively, and after giving Kraken a once over and a short group huddle Ember announced his name. “From here until the- yes, Flame, I’m still going to say it… I don’t care how cheesy it sounds! From here until the end of eternity, you will be known as ‘Vulcan’.”

Chapter 8: Flashwing

Summary:

Research Notes: In all my years on this planet, I've never met a such an outwardly beautiful dragon before! She resembles one of the lovely amethyst statues found in Nils' 'Quartz Collection'! She possesses such spectacularly translucent horns and crystalline scales across her form, I was at a loss for words. My tongue-tied demeanor proved to be a non-issue as she talked highly about herself far longer than our interview’s original two-hour limit, I almost forgot to document whether or not she had wings. Though, I won't beat around the bush, she is terribly spoiled, to the point of being mildly pompous, but I suppose her self-centered attitude isn't uncommon for dragons her age. She'll hopefully grow out of it and excel in her studies to be a powerful mage or, and I mean this wholeheartedly, the next Grand Master of Magic Crafters.

  • She says she's got 'true blue blood' to the confusion of many, but no one dare question if she's telling the truth on account of her eye-catchingly gorgeous crystalline appearance, and goodness does she play the part. She moves with purpose, chin up, shoulders straight, and speaks with a theatrical yet ladylike voice. She exudes unprecedented confidence and will take any opportunity she can to flaunt her equally flashy belongings or magical abilities to her friends and will often give them lavish homemade protection charms that no longer 'suit' her.

  • An experienced Magic Crafter, she has exceptional skill in just about everything, especially in Magic Infusion and Advanced Curse Breaking. When it comes to studying Elemental Magic, she's as expected indecisive and refuses to make a concrete decision till she's tried them all out. For now, her days are spent training or relaxing one floor above Zander's shop where she can sometimes be found helping him with his enchantments or conversing with customers.

  • Her and Spyro are acquaintances, Zander and Eldrid thought it would do them some good to have another friend their age but they didn't really take into account how their personalities would mesh. Good intentions, poor execution, these two have literally no common interests. She doesn't particularly like adventures or 'Gnorc bashing' and Spyro definitely doesn't like beauty pageants or learning intricacies of Curse Breaking.

  • Crystal Islands? Gnome Wizards? That sounds about right, the melodramatic speech patterns, the impressive experience with Magic, and a love of mole whacking are common traits of the island's people. She's forever grateful to The Astounding Arturo and The Great Zamboni for hiding her egg away after finding out she was a dragon. Alas, her love for them causes intense homesickness that only lessens if she goes down a slide or crystallizes an object, the latter of which she does often to unsuspecting flora so she can decorate herself and her surroundings like she would back home.

  • Secretly terrified of heights, coming up with unique excuses to keep her paws planted to the earth at all times, and flying is out of the question. "Flying? Not after that heavy lunch I just had!" to "Why on earth would a Magic Crafter need to fly when she could teleport instead?" to "No thank you, I favor taking the scenic route... On foot."  A past incident where she was almost mowed down by a learner pilot Thief at the tender age of nine has since left her fearful of flying and flying machines, though to avoid embarrassment and potential ridicule, she has been secretly training herself to glide off small mountainous ledges.

  • She made it pretty clear that she could name herself without help in a manner that wasn't the nicest, but one should expect such bluntness and self-assurance from Flashwing. "The only names I will be accepting from this day forth are Ipomoea Alba... or Moonflower for short". Her name likely has something to do with the Magic Crafter leader, Cosmos, who she admires greatly and whom she wishes to train under to inherit his role as leader of the Magic Crafters, though she wasn't sure if he was named after a flower or a universal body, so she chose both for herself.

Chapter 9: High Five

Summary:

Research Notes: What a taxing interview this turned out to be! This boy was beyond rude, testing my patience and sanity at every turn in conversation, and many times I found myself using Alvar's breathing techniques to keep myself composed. I was tactful yet straightforward when I inquired about his life and he still scorned me. I’ll admit having Lyle trick him into believing that this impromptu interview was about the upcoming races in Crystal Flight just to get High Five to appear wasn’t a good show of integrity on my part, and we discussed the races for the first hour, but he caught on to my intentions, and he didn’t stay for much longer. Oh, how I wished I’d studied his wing mutation while I had the opportunity, it may be some time before I see such a phenomenon again… Argus, you fool!

Chapter Text

*

  • A high-flying kid who, after years of receiving praise from elders and strangers alike, has gained quite an ego and a nasty tendency to unconsciously talk down to or altogether ignore those who he deems ‘plain’ or ‘unimpressive’. He's snide, impatient, and competitive to a fault with every perceived failure on his part being met with angry deflection and foul language. Yeah, he doesn't have the easiest time making friends but he's willing to open himself to those with tremendous patience, all the more if they’re sincerely kind to him. One thing about him that has gained him the most warranted praise and justified condemnation is his one-track mind, because once he's made his mind up on something, he's liable to follow through with it to the bitter end.

  • He's a Beast Maker who'd rather race around bald cypress roots and brackish estuaries indigenous to the realms than aid its aviary creatures with their annual migrations. He does his best not to get too upset when a widgeon or goose breaks formation, one, because he needs a job during the racing off-season, and, two, because he’s remarkably well-suited for leading formations through hazardous skies, if a bird flaps out of line, it won’t be for long. He can fly up, down, backwards and forwards, a full range of motion thanks to his insectoid wings. Funnily enough, dragons rarely exhibit mutations that deviate from identifiable wing shapes (elliptical, passive soaring, chiroptera, etc.), changes to wing structure and appearance are usually attributed to magic, injury, or a medical condition, but High Five’s wings have naturally fluttered in fours since birth giving him impressive maneuverability.

  • One head on collision, six sprained wings, and one tied race has proven to be a sour first impression on both sides. Though after several less competitive interactions, they get along much better now... Kind of. Five isn't ready to accept the elders, Spyro, or the others as anything more than adoring fans or groupies, it's what he's most familiar with, and he still keeps all of them at arm’s length just to keep his 'solo cool guy' image up. The only person he’s really seem to regularly get on well with is a tiny, glowing Dragonfly by the name of Sparx.

  • His scathing tongue and showboating nature all make sense when one learns he hails from Honey Speedway where the Bumblebee inhabitants are infamous for their foul-mouths, preening, and overly competitive demeanors. He grew up around literal racetracks and has been participating in grand prix races since he could fly, and the name 'Five' was only bestowed upon him as a way to signify his position as an official circuit racer. He added the 'High' partly for the crowd but mostly for himself to accentuate his gimmick and tendency to undermine altitude regulations in order to use extra height for frivolous aerial stunts.
  • He can produce a potent purple poisonous cloud from his mouth when threatened or when there’s unexpected pressure on his respiratory system, which was unintentionally discovered by the Tree Tops Trio after an 'achoo' gassed out Lyle's home and suffocated some of his plants. Miraculously, nobody was severely injured and he apologized, was forgiven, and now indoor dinners are only to occur if High Five’s seated close to an open window.

  • Tree Tops came in clutch when it came to title giving. Five's only stipulation was that his new name had to be 'cool' and Jed, quelling his wanderlust for a few minutes, picked the boy up as if he was presenting a precious jewel to the others, and blurted out the name 'Strider'. Five still goes by his original name while racing but outside of the Speedways he wears his new name with pride, bragging about it, loving it, and getting more than a little annoyed when it’s insinuated that someone might share it with him.

Notes:

I'm back with a new series! And with Graduation over, and summer starting, I'm going to have more time to write and finish my drafts! Though I will say that I have never played a Skylanders game in my life, I just adore the lore and characters, especially the well-designed dragons. I hope my interpretations are true to the characters because I love them all so, so much!
