Chapter Text

Jungkook was constantly feeling like his heart was smashed into a millions of pieces. Jungkook hoped for someone to hear his shouts, his agony and pain.

Jungkook was someone who never showed his weaknesses and scars, always happy with a positive mindset. But deep inside, he was feeling so lonely and depressed.

All Jungkook wanted was a tight hug to feel reassured, that maybe one day all will be okay. But when he reaches out, there is no one, but the darkness of his room surrounding him.

No, he is not completely lonely. He has a loving family. It is just that no one could understand his agony. He doesn't know how to tell others about his emotions.

Only his hyung seems to understand his pain. His name is Kim Taehyung. Since the time he has changed apartments, they haven’t met each other. They would talk on calls, but that’s it. Almost a month has passed. Because of Taehyung's work and studies, he had not been able to meet Jungkook.

Taehyung is a person everyone would wish to have in life. He understands Jungkook’s emotions just by looking at his eyes. Even if he does his best to school his features, he could not fool his hyung. That’s Taehyung for you.

He remembered his teen self crying in Taehyung’s embrace, whenever he was frightened or sad. He would never complain. Jungkook doesn’t have to explain himself. His cousins love him too but Taehyung’s love and care is incomparable. Kook was suddenly craving for some physical affection.

He heard ringing and came out of his daze. He took his phone from the bed side table.

“Hobi hyung calling...”

Hoseok is one of the cousins. He has a total of 5 cousins. Hoseok is the type of person who would find positivity in even the most difficult situations. He lives upto his nickname – ‘Sunshine’. His smile itself makes everybody’s day brighter.

 He attended the call.

“Hey Kookieeee”

Jungkook put the phone away from his ear. Did he forget to mention? Hobi is the loudest of all cousins.

“Hello Hyung...why did you call?”

“I don’t need any reason to call you, do I?”

“Well you surely have a reason to call me in the middle of the night.”

“Well yeah...yeah I do have a reason to call you.”

“Gotcha”

“So, me and Jimin were thinking of going out. Let’s have a week stay at a villa. Namjoon, Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung have agreed to come. Let’s have a family trip.”

“Oh wow, Yoongi hyung agreed to this.”

“Of course, can he ever reject our requests?”

“Hmmm...ok”

“Well Taehyung is also coming”

That caught Jungkook’s attention. Initially he wanted to reject the offer, since he was feeling too lazy and depressed to get out of bed. But hearing that his hyung would be there made him feel a tiny bit of happiness and hope bloom inside his heart. Finally he would be able to see his hyung.

“Ok hyung, I will come. Send me the details.”

“I would pick you up day after tomorrow at like 9 am”

“Ok hyung, bye”

After the call ended, Jungkook felt a smile growing on his face. For the first time in almost a month, he was smiling genuinely. He can’t wait for the trip.

Chapter Text

The day of the trip

Jungkook woke up early in the morning. He got ready till 9 am. He had packed a suitcase and a shoulder bag.

He was so excited.

He saw a van standing outside the building. He locked the doors and rushed to the van. It was Taehyung who welcomed him with his boxy smile. He spread his arms. Jungkook did not even know when he ran into Taehyung's embrace.

Oh how much had he missed his hyung?

"I would hate to interrupt your moment, but we have places to be."
Jungkook looked at the person who spoke.
It was Suga.

Suga was the second eldest of all cousins. He preaches that he wants to be a rock in next life. Odd right? He looks cold outside but he is one of the most caring person he has ever met.

Behind him Jimin was standing and taking pics of Taekook.
Jimin is the third youngest. He is the same age of Taehyung. Taehyung and Jimin are best friends.

Jimin is a whole damn Fashionista and a social media freak. He loves to take pics everywhere. He won't survive without a selfie. He always looks like he is going to attend some fashion show.

Hobi hyung came and gave Jungkook a hug and rushed to load the luggages.

Namjoon, the de-facto leader of the group was standing with a broken sunglass in his hand with Jin nagging at him.

Oh Namjoon? He is the God of Destruction. He is the clumsiest one of the group. Even though he is clumsy, his IQ level is high. He is the most intelligent one in the group.

Then there is Jin. The eldest of all. Could be called the mom of the group because of him fussing over the members every single time. But but but he is Jungkook's partner in crime. Don't mistake him to be a serious person just because he is the eldest one. That is why the maknaes love him.

Now Jungkook was the youngest of all. 2 years younger than Taehyung.

They all loaded the luggage and sat in the car. Hobi was the one driving. Taehyung carded his fingers through Jungkook's hair.

"How are you maknae-ah?"
"I am fine hyung. I missed you so much though."
"I am sorry Jungkook. From now onwards I will make some time to spend with you", replied Taehyung.

Jungkook smiled at that.

"You didn't tell us where we are going to stay at", said Namjoon.

Jimin and Jhope had only told everyone about the trip. No other details were given to them.

Jimin replied, "We saw a villa on the internet. It looked like the perfect spot for us. So I booked the whole villa for us. We will meet the caretaker there."

Jungkook hummed. Actually he didn't care where they were going. He just wanted to spend some time with Taehyung.

They drove for a long time. Almost 3 hours. They reached the villa at noon. The villa was located on the outskirts of the city. There was not a single house around the villa.

It was surrounded by trees.

They got out of the car. Jungkook looked at the villa. It was gorgeous. There was a small swimming pool too. The sunlight made the house shine in a special way. It was just so beautiful.

"I got the keys. So let's choose our rooms."

They were all so excited.

But little did they knew that this was the starting of their nightmare.

They all headed inside.

They all chose partners for the rooms.

Jungkook and Taehyung
Jhope and Namjoon
Jimin and Jin
And lastly Suga got a room for himself.

They all rushed to their rooms.

"Jungkook", Taehyung called.
"Yes Hyung"
"Are you ok?"

There. Look, he knew when Kook was feeling down. Jungkook just hummed.

"If you want to speak to hyung, you can. You are not a burden, remember that."

It was as if Tae could read Jungkook's mind.

"Ok hyung. But genuinely I am feeling happy right now. I need to thank Jimin and Hobi hyung for this trip."

Taehyung made a sound of approval. It was clear that Tae also was happy with this trip.

"Wanna go swimming, hyung?"
"Oh yes. I would love to. Thankfully I have brought my swimming trunks with me."

They both changed into their trunks and ran outside. They saw that Hobi and Jimin were already swimming in the pool. Suga was sitting on the edge of the pool with his legs in water. Namjoon was no where to be found. And Jin had already started cooking lunch.

Tae and Jungkook held hands and jumped inside the pool, almost splashing water on Jimin and Hobi.
Then the water fight started which also led to Suga getting wet himself.

The whole afternoon was spent in the swimming pool with laughters echoing everywhere. 

"Everybody, get out of that pool and get changed. The lunch is ready."

On hearing Jin, they all rushed to their rooms. They all changed and went down to have their food.

Namjoon was also present there.

The whole afternoon and evening was spent just like that.

After dinner, everyone except Jimin were gathered in the living room. At that time, Jimin rushed down the stairs with a thing.

They all got curious as to what it was.

Jimin said, " I found this in the cupboard in mine and Jin hyung's room. This looks like a board game."

Jimin had not put it down yet. He was standing with it looking at the others.

"Ohh, how about we check it out. I am feeling bored. This might be a good time pass", Hoseok commented.

"What are we? Kids?", came Suga's reply.

"Kids are not the only ones who play games, hyung", retorted Taehyung.

Jin being the eldest said, "We need to sleep, it is quite late already. We can play it tomorrow or something."

"Come on hyung, don't be boring..who sleeps so early? We are on a trip. We need to enjoy it", whined Jimin. Jin gave up immediately.

Namjoon then said, "Let's play anyway. I am also feeling bored AND everyone will play this game. No one is getting away."

The last comment was for Suga. It was clear as day. Suga grumbled and nodded. He looked as if he didn't wanna play but deep inside he was curious.

Taehyung looked at Jungkook. JK was the only one who had not commented anything.

"Are you okay Kookie?", whispered Tae.
"Yes hyung. It's nothing. I was just tired."

Taehyung hummed but it was clear he was not satisfied by the answer.
Jk had lied. He had been getting bad vibes after seeing the thing in Jimin's hand. But what could a board game even do? He didn't want to ruin the fun. So he ignored his feelings.

Everyone sat on the floor in a circle. Jimin came forward and put the box in the middle and backed away to sit in the circle.

Everyone stared at the box in front of them. It was a wooden box which had a lock in the front. It was simple without any design. It looked a bit old.
On the top of the box, carved in big letters were the word-

They all looked at the box. 

(I drew the drawings present in this chapter to make it easy for you to imagine)

Taehyung opened the lock and unfolded it. It was made of thick sturdy wood. When they opened it, they were greeted with the view of Mirror on one side of the board. Above it were the word 'WELCOME'.

The other side consisted of a button, a map and an instruction manual. There was also a character list beneath the manual.

"Well this is wierd. I have never in my life seen such a peculiar game in my life. Who the fuck puts a real mirror inside a game box?!?", exclaimed Jimin.

"Hmmm....This is actually quite wierd", Namjoon agreed.

Jungkook was staring at the mirror for a long time. Jin noticed him.

"Why are you staring at the mirror, Kook-ah? Is something wrong?"

At that everyone looked at JK.
He hummed.

"Yes hyung. I am totally fine. I was wondering why a simple game will have such elements in it."

"Let's leave the mirror be. Can we just look at the instruction manual instead?" This time Suga was the one who chastised them. He was curious yet annoyed by the conversation.

"Hyung look at the map!!!", said Taehyung.

"Hmmm...interesting", replied Jhope.

Namjoon picked up the instruction manual and started reading out loud.

"Welcome to the world of Mirror...
Complete the levels to escape the Mirror. 
There are places crossed in the map. You will travel through the mirror."

Everyone nodded along.

Namjoon continued.
"As you enter a level, you will have to complete the mission provided. You will also have to collect some collectibles as shown in the starting of the level. Only when you complete the mission and collect the collectibles, can you pass to the other level.

But for that you will have to find the mirror. It will be as shown below."

They all looked at the image of a beautiful mirror which had a peculiar design.

"You will have to stand in front of the mirror and chant
'Mirror Mirror please let us through'. Then you all will be teleported to the next level. You might also get some rewards. You need to preserve them for the future.

Warning-
You will have to complete the mission and collect the things mentioned. If you fail to do so, you can't pass through the mirror even if you find it and chant the words."

They all felt shivers down their spine.

"Evn if any one of you stands in front of the mirror and chants, all of you will be teleported to the next level. It is not necessary for everyone to stand in front of the mirror. You can't leave the game in the middle. You will each have five lives.

You need to kill to survive.

After you finish the whole game you will return but if you fail, you will be stuck inside.

You need to choose the character you are going to play for entering the game. You need to write your name in front of the character in the character list. Only then could you press the button.

All the best....try to Survive!!!"

Namjoon looked at the others. Everyone was either looking interested or confused.

"Why are the instructions so wierd? It is as if we are going to play it in real life", Jin said.

"Yeah and what will happen when we press the button?", asked Jungkook.

"Maybe some card will pop out of this box and we would have to do some dare....maybe???", Jhope in a hushed tone.

"How about we find out?", replied Suga. Everyone nodded at that.

Taehyung picked up the character list.

The list contained (they need to write the names in the blank spaces)

'Name-__________________
Power- Pyrokinesis, which is the ability to manipulate fire. The person could summon fire out of nowhere or manipulate fire as per wish.

Name- ___________________
Power- Hydrokinesis, which is the ability to manipulate water. The person could summon water out of nowhere or manipulate water as per wish.

Name- ___________________
Power- Geokinesis, also called Earth Manipulation or Terrakinesis, is the ability to manipulate the earth in its various forms, such as rock, sediment, nature and plant life.

Name- ___________________
Power- Aerokinesis, which is the power to manipulate air, wind, and gas. Can also levitate (float in air) and also levitate others.

Name- ___________________
Power- Telepathy, the power to control minds, can communicate with the others through his mind i.e., no one else could hear them. He could hear others' thoughts and manipulate it as per wish. He will have enhanced intelligence.

Name- ___________________
Power- Toxikinesis, the power to control poison. Also called the Belladonna. Looks harmless on the outside but is extremely poisonous. Immune to poison.

Name- ___________________
Power- Transmutation, the ability of Shape changing and Shape-Shifting. The person can shift into a thing or another person or an animal. They can shift into different forms as per wish.'

They all were hyped up. It was getting interesting.

"So who is choosing who?"
"I want the Toxikinesis one. It looks kinda cool", replied Jimin.

"I want the shape shifter one. I would love to shift into a rock", joked Suga.

"Ok cool. I think Namjoon must have the telepathy. He is already so intelligent. He fits well in the role", exclaimed Hobi. Namjoon also hummed in approval.

"How cool it would be to control fire?!? I want this one!!", Jhope said.

"I will just take the Geokinesis", JK said.

"Alright I want the flying one. What is it..??..Aerokinesis!!", replied Jin.

"I will take the Hydrokinesis", replied Taehyung.

So finally, they wrote their names in the card.

Pyrokinesis- Jhope
Hydrokinesis- Taehyung
Aerokinesis- Jin
Geokinesis- Jungkook
Telepathy- Namjoon
Transmutation- Suga
Toxikinesis- Jimin

"Ok let's see what will happen next"

Namjoon pressed the button.

The mirror started shining so brightly. Everyone covered their eyes. They all screamed. The intensity of the light was blinding them.

And then they were all out cold on the floor.

"The Adventure begins"

Jungkook opened his eyes. He saw canopies of trees over him. He got confused. What? Where am I?
He immediately sat up straight. He saw his hyungs also getting up. They were also wide eyed. Everyone was confused at where they were.

He looked on his left and saw Taehyung already looking at him. For the first time ever, he saw fear in his hyung's face.

"What is that???"
They all looked at where Jimin was pointing at i.e., behind Jungkook. There was a large mirror.

"Isn't that the mirror from the game!?!", exclaimed Taehyung.

Everyone stood up. But before they could discuss further, the mirror disappeared in front of their eyes. They were all scared.

Then a huge screen was floating in front of them.

They all stared at the screen. They all started reading the contents.

Jungkook stared at the picture of the plant.

Then the screen disappeared.

"So are we inside the game or am I fucking hallucinating?", asked Suga. 

"It looks like that though or someone is playing a very nasty prank", replied Jin.

"You know, from whatever we experienced, I really don't think it is a prank and definitely not a hallucination", replied Namjoon.

"So what are we gonna do?!? Complete the mission?", exclaimed Jhope.

"We don't have any other way to escape....so...", replied Taehyung.

"I don't know whether you have noticed or not but our clothes are different", Jimin muttered. At that everyone looked at their clothes. They were so caught up in the situation that they didn't notice the change of clothes.

Taehyung, Namjoon, Jimin and Jin wore the outfit given below.

Meanwhile Jhope, Jungkook and Suga wore the following outfit. The top is a black full sleeved tshirt just like the picture.

They were all surprised.
"At least we don't have to play in a loose pajama", joked Jimin, trying to lighten up the mood.

"Ok so can we talk about the mission. What in the actual hell is a MONSTER TREE?!? How are we supposed to find it? And what is THAT plant? I have never ever heard about that fucking plant?!?", Taehyung asked to no one in particular.

"It is known as the Stinging nettle. It is quite poisonous. If anyone touches the leaves or stems, the needle-like hairs of this plant can inject formic acid into the skin. This can lead to burning and an itchy rash."

Everyone stared at Jungkook as if he has grown two heads. Taehyung's jaw dropped at the answer. Jungkook himself was shocked when he realised what had just happened.

"And how in the actual hell do you know about that plant? You have always bunked science classes. I could have imagined Namjoon knowing about it but not YOU", exclaimed Jin.

"I don't know. It is as if I know everything about plants. I have never in my life ever taken interest in botany!!", came Jungkook's reply.

"Wait, if the game is real, does that mean the powers are also real. Like Jungkook had chosen Geokinesis or Terrakinesis. That is why maybe he knows about that plant", Namjoon replied.

"Does that mean that I COULD MANIPULATE FIRE!?!?"
"CAN I FLY THEN!?!?"
Jhope and Jin were screaming like two teenage girls who have just been proposed by their crush.

Taehyung and Jungkook face palmed at their antics.

"But does that mean I could shift into anything?", Suga murmured.

Namjoon looked at Jimin. "Don't worry we will practice before we face the monster."

Jimin flinched at that. He had been thinking about how they could face a monster when they didn't even know how to use their powers.

"Hyung, how did you know what I was thinking about?"
"If you forgot, let me remind you, I have Telepathy as my power. I could always read your mind."

Everyone looked at Namjoon in awe.
"So how about we test our powers so we could finish the mission asap since I really don't want to be in this game", came Suga's reply

"Hyung look at your ring finger"
At Jungkook's exclamation, Taehyung looked at it and found 5 black rings tattooed in his skin.

"What is this?", asked Jimin.
Everyone had those marks on their finger.

"Maybe it depicts the 5 lives that we have got....", came Namjoon's reply.

"So how about we practice?"

They spent the whole day practising. It was night time. Jhope had lit up a small fire to keep them warm.

Surprisingly, they all learnt to use their powers pretty quickly. It was as if they already knew how to use them. Namjoon had also learnt how to stop listening to voices. He could use his power whenever he wants. Suga had shifted into a kitten, a puppy and even took the form of NAMJOON.  
Jin was able to levitate too. He also made Taehyung and Jimin fly as Jimin giggled like a kid who got a candy. Jungkook knew everything about plants and he was able to move rocks and plants as he wants. Taehyung could summon water from out of nowhere now. Jimin hadn't tried his power yet since he was frightened about hurting the others but he also was secretly trying to practice by summoning poison out of no where. His touch even withered a plant.

And most importantly they noticed that their eyes changed colours whenever they used their power.

Jungkook had purple eyes while using his power.

Taehyung had green.

Jimin had golden.

Jhope had red.

Namjoon had blue.

Suga's would turn fully black.

Jin had pink.

"So what is the plan for tomorrow?", asked Taehyung.

They all were hungry but had chosen to ignore the hunger. Jungkook had offered to find fruits for them since he knew about plants so well but they refused to let him go in the dark. They never know what will happen next. Neither do they know whether the Monster Tree is around.

"Hmm, I was thinking, how about we divide in teams?"

"Don't you think it is pretty dangerous for us to separate from each other", came Jin's reply.

"But we need to complete this level asap. We need to find the monster tree and kill it, we need to find a poisonous plant and we also need to find that god damn mirror", Suga replied.

"How are we going to take the leaves though? The whole damn plant is poisonous", Jungkook asked.

"Well.."
Everyone looked at Jimin.
"..actually my power is Toxikinesis. My power also mentions that I am immune to poison. So I can pluck the leaves."

Everyone agreed.

"So Jimin is going for the plant. I think Jungkook should also go with him since he knows about the plant. He will make it easy for Jimin to find the plant."

Jungkook nodded.

"Jin hyung will find the mirror by flying. Maybe he could get the whole view of the forest from above. As for Jhope, Suga, Taehyung and I will go to fight the tree."

"How will you defend yourself Namjoon? You don't have any defensive power", asked Suga.

"Yes that's true though...but I can't just leave you on your own."

"We will manage. You can't be there. You might get hurt. So it is better if you join Jin hyung in finding the mirror. He can't just find the mirror on his own", retorted Suga.

"Ok so I will help in finding the mirror. Jin hyung you search the east side of the forest and I will search the west. Jhope, Suga hyung and Tae will search for the tree and Jk and Jimin will search for the plant."

"Wait!!"
Everyone looked at Jungkook.
"Since I am able to manipulate earth and plants, do you think I could communicate with plants and trees!?!", Jungkook asked. He was somehow proud to have this power. Taehyung smiled at Jungkook.

"Maybe...., you could always try.."

"Let me check. You all go to sleep. I will try to communicate with the trees. If I am lucky I might get the location of the tree and the poison plant."

"Hmm...ok but be careful", Taehyung replied. He was worried about Jk.

"Yes hyung, you go to sleep. We have a long day ahead "
Everyone nodded and went to sleep.

Taehyung looked at the sky.
What had their lives become?
Will they survive?

Everyone had slept except Jungkook and Tae. Jungkook was going to sit next to the tree when Taehyung interrupted him.
Jungkook looked at him with his doe eyes. The fire had still not extinguished.
"Yes hyung?"

Tae sat down next to Jungkook and held his hands. Jungkook was confused. What happened to his hyung?

Taehyung looked at him in the eyes.

"Kookie, I don't know whether we would survive this or not, whether I would survive or not...but if I don't ever make it out of this game....."

Jungkook was about to snap at his brother for thinking like that. How could he think that he would die? His brother would never leave him behind....right?
Before he could retort, Taehyung put a finger to his lips.

"Let me speak Kookie. If I don't make it out of here, you need to know you are the best little brother I could ever have. You must go with the others. You need to survive. If the situation comes, where you need to leave me behind and run, you need to promise me you will run.

Promise me that you won't look behind. You need to survive. For yourself, for me, for everyone."

Jungkook had tears in his eyes.
"But hyung how could I ever leave you behind. You are the main reason I have been living for. You were the person who played the role of a parent for me. You were the one who took care of me.

Do you know how much I wanted to die just because I hadn't seen your face for a month?!? And you think that I would ever survive without YOU?! NEVER!!"

Taehyung was crying. For the first time ever, Jk had spoken his mind out. He had not known Jungkook had been suffering for the last month. He felt guilty.

"Kookie, if we make it out of this game, we will move in together. I will never leave you behind. I will make it up to you. I am sorry for being a bad hyung. I am sorry Kook-ah.....but please promise me that if the situation comes, you will run away. Promise me Kookie. If you love your hyung, please promise me."

Taehyung was full on crying now.

"But hyung..."
"Please Kook, promise me", whispered Taehyung.
Jungkook couldn't help it.
"I Promise you, hyung"
Taehyung hugged him tightly.

They both had been whispering and talking in hushed voices to avoid waking the others. But little did they know, that everyone was actually only pretending to sleep. They had heard the whole conversation.

Everyone had tears in their eyes. Everyone was trying to hide their terror but everyone was hella frightened.

"Go to sleep hyung"
"Ok. Good night."
Taehyung then went beside Jimin and slept.

Meanwhile Jungkook dried his face from the tears. He was determined to do whatever he could to make it out of the game alive with EVERYONE. He sat next to the tree and closed his eyes.

The whole night went in a blur.

What will happen next? Will they be able to survive this level?
