"Only the strongest deserve to be on the court."

Those words had stuck in the head of the short orange haired boy, the king who had defeated him in his first high school match was absolutely right in that sentence, he didn't deserve to be inside the court.

He shook his head erasing those bad memories to get up from his seat and go out to get something to eat before recess was over, but the figure of his tall blonde haired classmate planted herself in front of him with a black haired girl with rose colored glasses by her side.

- Uhh... Can I help you with something? - The orange-haired boy asked nervously as he raised an eyebrow.

- That's him, I'm leaving now senpai - said the tall boy.

- Thank you Tsukishima-san - said the girl making a slight bow of thanks.

The blond just nodded in response and then left the room.

- Sorry for interrupting Hinata-san - the blue gaze of the girl turned to the man - I just came to talk to you about a proposal - she arranged a lock of hair behind her ear and then looked at some papers she had in her hand.

- It's okay - spoke the orange one with a slight blush on his cheeks because of the pretty girl who was talking to him about some things, things he wasn't paying attention to because he was more focused on looking like he was paying attention, something rare in him.

- What do you say Hinata-san, can you join? - He was finally able to pay attention to the girl's soft voice pulling himself out of his own thoughts.

- "Join what?" - thought the boy - ehh sure - he spoke giving the girl a nervous smile.

- great - the girl's lips curved into a slight smile - I'll come find you after school, see you later Hinata-san - she gave a slight reference and walked out of the first year classroom waving goodbye to the junior with a wave of her hand.

Hinata stared at the door where the female had exited and went back into her thoughts.

- "What was she talking to me about?" -

The bell rang announcing the end of the school day and the beginning of the clubs activities, Hinata was arranging her books inside her bag to be able to leave.

Hinata!!! - the voice of one of his classmates calling him made him look up from what he was doing - they are looking for you - he pointed to the door where this morning's pretty girl was.

- I'm coming out!!! - he announced to the older girl finishing putting her things away to put her bag on her shoulders and walk towards the door.

- come on, on the way I will explain you more about what I told you this morning, do you remember what I asked you? - said the girl when she had the youngest in front of her.

- Uhh, more or less? - an embarrassed smile appeared on the boy's face, making the older girl laugh a little.

- I asked you if you could be the manager of the boys' volleyball club.

- H-how? -

the club boys were now warming up to start doing the exercises that were going to be done today.

- Hey, do you guys have a moment? - The voice of the black-haired manager standing in the doorway caught the attention of everyone inside.

- What's up Shimizu? - said a silver-haired boy approaching the manager as did the others, everyone around could notice how someone with orange hair peeked behind the manager shyly.

- Who is behind you? - asked a short boy with a patch of blond hair, scaring the orange-haired one a little for noticing him.

- He will try out as the new manager," said the woman running a little so the players could get a better look at the boy's shaky little figure.

Shoyo noticing all the stares straightened his back and spoke trying not to sound choppy - I am Hinata Shoyo - 

The players looked curiously at the boy ready to ask questions.

- It's amazing Shimizu - smiled a gray-haired boy calming the nerves of the younger one, but the looks they were getting from a shaved boy next to a short boy with a patch of blond hair scared him again, the older boy seeing the change of the younger one looked back noticing the reason - hey! - he covered the faces of both boys behind him -you scare the poor boy even more! -

- "I think I've seen him somewhere" - thought the blue haired boy with a frown looking intently at the boy who was answering some questions from the curious players trying to remember where he had seen him.

- Are you a first year? - Hinata turned to the direction she heard the question from and saw a fearful boy which startled him causing him to hiding behind the girl with glasses 

-I'm in class 1-4, sir!

-"Sir?!"- everyone laughed at what he said, it was a common thing for everyone to be scared at the sight of their long haired and bearded ace.

- I'm glad we already have a principal for next year - said a dark-haired man.

Hinata didn't know what to say, so she nervously looked to the older manager for help in this situation.

- Hey, he hasn't joined yet - the girl spoke quickly - I just asked him today before working with the membership committee, so I was just coming to say hello to him -

- nice to meet you - the orange haired man bowed to the boys in front of him.

- Nice to meet you Hinata, my name is Sawamura Daichi and I am the team captain - introduced the dark-haired man - introduce yourselves one by one - he ordered.

- I'm Sugawara Koshi vice-captain of the team - said the gray haired boy with a mole near his eye - welcome Hinata - he also bowed to the younger one.

- Nice to meet you Hinata, I'm Azumane Asahi - introduced the bearded long haired boy from before trying not to scare the younger one again.

- I'm Nishinoya Yuu from second year - a short boy with a patch of blond hair stepped in front of the big guy to get the orange-haired boy's attention.

- I'm Tanaka Ryūnosuke, from now on your favorite sempai - with a lot of confidence the clean-shaven boy put his hand around the younger one's shoulders.

- Excuse him hinata - spoke a black haired boy taking the shaved one from the boy's side - I'm Ennoshita Chikara of second year -.

- I'm Kinoshita Hisashi from second year - introduced a boy with light brown hair - I hope you accept to be our other manager - bowed to the boy

- Nice to meet you Hinata, my name is Narita Kazuhito from second year - greeted another bald boy

Hinata just nodded with every introduction him seniors made to him, most of them were big intimidating guys that scared him

- Nice to meet you Hinata-san - approached a boy with olive colored hair and freckles - my name is Yamaguchi Tadashi and the blond boy with glasses behind me is Tsukishima Kei, we are both first year - Hinata already knew Tsukishima.

That tall blond-haired boy is in him same class although he had never approached to talk to him, he just watched him from afar.

- Also the boy with black hair and blue eyes is Kageyama Tobio, also a freshman - 
the freckled boy spoke again pointing at the boy who was staring at him.

- The king of the court? - said the red-haired boy without thinking that the talented boy who defeated him in high school is here in the same school as him, he thought he would go to a school where his team is one of the strongest, like Shiratorizawa or Aoba Josai.

- What did you just call me? - spoke the jet with a tone that reflected annoyance as he looked at the little boy with a frown.

A derisive laugh rang through the place.

- Even those who are not from the village know you, egocentric king - said the blond with glasses.

- You shut up, lanky - replied the blue-eyed one, giving the orange-haired one an annoyed look before turning around and continuing with his training.

- I'm leaving now, nice to meet you all - said Hinata leaving the gym - see you soon - he closed the door as he waved goodbye and smiled.

the players stood watching the closed door listening to the boy's footsteps walking away.

- he's cute - said Ennoshita being sure that the boy was far enough away to not hear him

- he looks like a chihuahua, a lot of anxiety in a small body - mocked the one with glasses

- Very well, let's go back to practice - ordered the captain to the others.

the next day Hinata was in class looking out the window at the raindrops falling, he was thinking about what had happened yesterday with the boys volleyball club, he wasn't quite sure whether to go again or just leave it at that.

The sound of the bell announcing the start of lunchtime brought him out of his thoughts. Heaving a sigh he took the bento out of his bag and put it on his desk ready to eat, he didn't have any friends to eat with him since the start of school he hasn't talked to anyone either for fear of the person's appearance

- hey Hinata - the freckled boy from yesterday was standing in front of his stall waving to him.

- Hi Yamaguchi-kun - Hinata greeted him with her nervous tone.

- I was wondering if you wanted to join me and tsuki for lunch - the orange-haired one turned to look at the stall where the named boy normally stands noticing him there looking at him.

- if it's not a bother - he turned his gaze to the freckled  in front of him who was now reflecting pure happiness.

- Of course not Hinata, come - giving a smile to the orange-haired boy he took him with him to the desk where the one with glasses was sitting

They were talking about how they were going to a training camp in Tokyo (laughing also about how Kageyama and two sophomores were doing everything they could to pass their exams and be able to go) or they were also talking about some rumors they heard in the corridors. For the first time in him school year he felt warmth when he was at lunch time together with people.

- And tell me Hinata -the olive-colored one caught the little one's attention- can you tell us about yourself? - the little boy finished swallowing the piece of meat he had in his mouth to be able to answer better.

- Well... I don't know what you want to know - he left his bento on the stand while looking at the two boys in front of him.

- mmmm - the freckled guy put a finger under his chin thinking about what they might ask the short guy - what do you like to do? for example, besides volleyball I like to play the guitar - he said smiling.

- Or what are you interested in? - said the one with the glasses paying full attention to the short guy.

- Tsuki is interested in dinosaurs - laughed the freckled one giving information about his childhood friend.

- Shut up Yamaguchi - said the one with glasses making the freckled one laugh.

- sorry tsuki -

the orange-haired one laughed at the interaction of the two boys.

- well...I like cooking and sometime drawing - he spoke already showing more confidence to the other boys - and I'm interested I guess it would be maybe flowers and their language-.

the trio of boys spent the rest of the lunch hour like this, eating and talking to each other to get to know each other, although the one with the glasses was the one who contributed the least, his childhood friend told on him in front of the little boy, making him laugh.

At the end of the school day and the beginning of the club activities, Hinata was peeking out of the gym door looking at those already inside talking and waiting for those who were missing to start their training for the day.

- shrimp  - the voice of his blond haired friend spoke behind him making him jump - ohh, did I scare you? - the blond started laughing at the younger one's reaction.

- Tuskishima-kun - shouted the younger one hitting the tall one on the shoulder who was still laughing at him.

- My God, I almost saw you stuck on the roof - Tsukishima kept bothering the poor boy - Come on, let's go inside once and for all, jumping ball - the blond entered laughing at the little boy.

- Idiot - muttered the red-haired boy entering the gym heading to where the black-haired manager was waiting for him.

- Good morning Hinata-kun - greeted the older girl noticing the presence of the man next to her.

- Good morning shimizu-senpai - greeted the younger one bowing.

- Today you will only be observing, you don't have to be nervous - said the older manager.

- Yes - answered the orange-haired boy nervously.

-"That's cute"- she let out a chuckle when he saw the nervous expression the boy had -okay, be careful with some stray balls- she ruffled her hair and walked away to his place.

- yes - he replied nervously again - "wait.... Stray balls!!"-the orange-haired boy's fear increased.

it was the end of practice, everyone was ready to go home to rest and be ready for tomorrow's practice match, the red-haired boy was walking to his bike and thinking about today's practice.

- "My god... I was so scared when I saw that ball coming towards me" - Hinata hugged himself with fear remembering that terrifying event - "how lucky that Ennoshita-senpai was able to save me" - he let out a sigh again remembering how his second year senpai was able to deflect that stray ball.

-! Hinata! - Hinata looked towards where the shout came from and could see the freckled player running towards him - will you be our manager Hinata? - asked the freckled one when he was already in front of the boy.

- Well... -

- hey, red-haired first year! - two other voices had interrupted Hinata

- you know? we're totally counting on you to be our manager - spoke the short second year boy when he saw that he already had the attention of his kohai

- The closer you are, the more Kiyoko-san smiles and talks a lot more - followed the shaved boy.

- besides, we would also like another beautiful manager with us - the short sophomore spoke again putting his hands on his hips, the other sophomore just nodded agreeing with his "bro".

- what kind of invitation is that, you idiots!? - the team captain scolded both of them by hitting them on the head.

- just excuse them, they're a couple of jerks - the gray-haired one apologized with a big smile.

- n-no big deal - the red-haired man just scratched the back of his neck nervously and blushed because of what the sophomores had said about his appearance, - I'm glad I can be of help in some way - he let out a nervous laugh, - I'm still not sure whether to join or not, but when Shimizu-senpai talked to me about -

- I completely understand - interrupted the bald man - even if Kiyoko told me "I'm going to take all your money, but you follow me" I would follow her without hesitation - he spoke while fantasizing about the black-haired manager.

Hinata just froze watching his elders interacting about how that dialogue had represented a "good love".

- Just ignore them Hinata - said the freckled boy who was still standing next to him - do you want to walk with Tsukki and me? - he asked pointing to the blond with glasses who was almost standing at the entrance looking at his cell phone.

- I would like it very much Yamaguchi-kun, but I'm going by bike and besides I should have been home a few hours ago - he answered softly - sorry, maybe next time - he said while he bowed apologetically

- don't worry about it, even so, let me accompany you to where your bicycle is - offered the freckled one to the shorter boy

- if that's okay with you... - he said shyly as he walked towards his bike with a Yamaguchi by his side talking to him about anything. Arriving at him destination Hinata said goodbye to the childhood friends as he took the chains off his bike and got on it to start pedaling back home as fast as he could, he didn't want to upset his mother any more than he thought he would.

- "she's drunk again" - he thought as he trembled with fear as he looked at the older woman

- What are these damn hours of arriving!? - said the woman in a shout

- I...- he wasn't entirely sure what to say as an excuse to his mother, if he told her that he was at the vollerbay club maybe she would get even angrier than she was and remind him that the sport was forbidden in that house

- REPOND! - shouted the older one angrily 

- a-a senpai invited me to the soccer club! - Bingo! there was already an excuse which would serve well with his mother - we were at the practice...- the redhead looked attentively at his mother's frown was changed by a small smile of pride 

- I'm glad to hear that you are already interested in another sport than volleyball - she hugged her son by the soulders while she took him inside the house - you know that sport is forbidden in this house, i don't want one more faggot in this family - laughed the older girl walking to the living room leaving her son in the entrance hall - in the microwave there is a hamburger I ordered, you can eat it - she laid down on the couch and fell asleep right away

- thank you...- whispered the red-haired boy heading to the kitchen to get something to eat before going to bed

that's how their days were since father and mother had divorced, the older one left for work long before he woke up without leaving her any food for the morning or for school and when he arrived home he always found her lying on the couch with bottles of alcohol around her.

- "What luck that this weekend I'm going to visit Natsu and dad" -the redhead thought with a smile as he watched the hamburger heating up in the microwave.

One more day at school and Hinata was running to the machines at the back of the school, he was a bit exhausted since the morning when he was cornered by the short boy and the shaved sophomore when he was just entering, the older boys were asking him (begging him almost on their knees) to be his second manager even when he left the room for the break both boys were already waiting for him outside, the redhead had a hard time escaping from those two.

- My god, do they really care so much that I'm their manager? - he spoke a bit agitated looking behind him watching if the older ones were not following him.

- If it's something that involves Kiyoko-senpai, it's too important - a familiar voice startled the short man who quickly turned to look at the black-haired setter taking a carton of milk.

- Oh Kageyama-kun, you gave me a scare - replied the red-haired man putting a hand on his chest and letting out a sigh of relief.

- Sorry - apologized the setter disinterestedly.

- It's okay - smiled the older of the two.

Kageyama looked attentively at the short man's features, he looked too familiar, but he didn't remember where he had seen him.

- Hey Hinata...- he caught his attention.

- Yes? -

- Have we met before? - he decided to ask, if he didn't have answers in his own mind then he would have to ask.

- well...- that question was completely unexpected for the redhead - how come you're asking that? - he laughed nervously

- your features look familiar, but I can't remember where from -

- it's nothing important - Hinata waved his hand downplaying its importance - I was just an easy opponent for you in middle school -

That was the answer he had been looking for since a few days ago, that short red-haired boy had been the one who had surprised him in that match with his jump and his incredible speed, he remembered how bad his team was, which was full of dwarves.

- you are that kid who had an incredible jump - spoke the black-haired boy

- I guess - the caramel-eyed one played nervously with his hands while trying not to make eye contact with the other one.

- Why didn't you keep playing? - another question that Hinata didn't expect from the taller one

- because of some problems? - the red-haired boy answered uncertainly this time looking at the boy's blue eyes, previously he hadn't noticed them but the first thing he thought when he looked at him was that he could have total confidence with the boy - I'm forbidden to play volleyball - he quickly blurted out

- Why? - Kageyam didn't know why he had a warm feeling when he looked at the boy's caramel colored eyes, besides he felt curious and too confused by the short boy's answer.

- We are very inquisitive Kageyama-kun - said mockingly the red-haired boy - only my mother has forbidden everything related to volleyball in the house, besides something happened to my wrist that forbids me to play - explained the short boy showing his right wrist where there was a scar (we'll see it later in the next chapter)

- so that's why you don't want to join as a manager - concluded the blue-eyed one

- something like that, I'm afraid that my mother will find out and make a scandal or something - answered sadly the short one.

- Your mother should respect your tastes, besides I think that if you are interested in volleyball you should join the club, not as a player but as our manager - spoke the black-haired boy - my parents don't like me to play volleyball either and even so I keep playing it - he put a hand on his waist while he took a sip from his forgotten milk carton.

Kageyama reminded him at this very moment of his twin sister, she ignored all his mother's retorts and kept on playing the sport as if it was nothing and encouraged him to do the same, wanting him to fulfill his dreams of being the next little giant.

- Thank you Kageyama-kun - Hinata gave a slight smile to the tall man as a thank you.

- I didn't do anything anyway, I just gave my opinion - at that same moment the bell rang to go back to their respective classes - see you at practice I guess, bye - he said goodbye and ruffled the boy's hair.

- bye - chinata just waved goodbye. now he was walking down the corridors already knowing that he wanted to be the second manager of the volleyball club.

It was an ordinary summer day, the Hinata family had decided it was an amazing idea to have a picnic all together. Hinata Kuta, a short man with red hair, big blue eyes and freckles scattered across his face, led the way with his two small children following him like ducklings to their mother duck, while Hinata Oyuki, a tall woman with shoulder-length black hair, honey-colored eyes and polka dots all over her face watched with a smile as her husband led the way, with honey colored eyes and polka dots all over her face, watched with a smile the scene of her husband leading her little twins of about 5 years old, they looked very much like their father only having her honey colored eyes, their names are Hinata Shouyou and Hinata Natsu.

- Attention my children - said the older man stopping his walk to look at his children in a military chief position.

- Yes, sir! - said the twins, putting one of their hands in the form of a military salute.

- We arrived at our destination, now you must help Mrs. Mom to organize everything for the picnic - ordered with a smile the older man with red hair.

- Understood, Mr. Dad -said the children for the last time before running to the things their mother was bringing for the picnic.

The tall woman just laughed at the sight of her little ones organizing everything, the older one approached her husband hugging him from behind and putting her head on top of that reddish hair. She had felt her husband tense up at the touch, but the black-haired woman simply ignored it, thinking that the man was not expecting that touch.

- I love you -said the woman kissing the reddish hair with great affection.

The man was silent for a few seconds while he continued watching his children organize what they needed for the picnic, he felt a slight pain in his chest because of the thoughts he was having right now.

- Me too oyuki...- the older one answered quietly, getting out of the woman's arms to go help the younger ones.

The mother of the Hinata family and the children were watching the volleyball match between the Red Falcons and the Sendai Frogs, the team their father was on.

- Look mommy, daddy just blocked that tall guy! - admired the little girl with pigtails pointing to the player with the number 5 on his shirt who had been able to block that attack giving the last point and making the Sendai Frogs win.

- When I grow up I want to be like daddy! - admired the boy jumping with excitement watching the volleyball match.

The eldest only smiled to see her children admiring their father's moves, even though he was one of the smallest in the sport he was still one of the best players, turning her eyes to the court she could see another player just as small in the opposite team, he was better known than her husband, the famous "little giant" friend and lifelong rival of her partner since middle school. The eldest of the Hinata family watched as that black-haired player approached to talk to her husband, his behavior made Oyuki a little strange seeing him pass his hands around his partner's waist and whisper something in her ear making her husband's cheeks turn reddish.

What if she suspected some kind of infidelity? Yes, but even so, the lady had a lot of confidence in her husband, he is so sincere that if he were to cheat on her he would tell her right there and then without any problem.

- Let's go children, let's congratulate Mr. father for having won the game - she announced, slowly pushing the younger children and leading them to the exit.

- When we get home we can practice more teamwork, little brother - said the girl with pigtails walking hand in hand with her twin.

- I hope so, that way we'll get better and be the best - the boy was interrupted by some shouts coming from inside his house, it was his mother's voice when she was angry.

- Mom? - questioned the pigtailed girl running straight into the house dragging her brother.

- HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO ME? - spoke the older girl throwing a couple of pillows directly at her husband -YOU'RE TERMINATING ME BY GOING WITH A MAN? - she kept shouting angrily with tears in her eyes.

- Oyuki please understand - the elder was trying to calm his furious wife.

- SHUT UP, YOU SLEPT WITH ANOTHER MAN WHEN YOU WERE WITH ME, HOW PITIFUL YOU ARE! -

Oyuki's screams frightened the children, they didn't quite understand what was going on between their parents.

- I never slept with him, believe it or not I always had respect for our relationship! - Now it was the man's turn to shout - That's why I'm telling you this, I want to tell you that I don't feel anything for you anymore instead of being unfaithful! -

- mom? dad? - the delicate voice of his son brought them out of the moment by turning to look at them, both children were holding hands with teary eyes and their faces with a confused expression.

- What's the matter? - asked the little girl, this time looking between her mother and father.

- Children...- the older one did not know how to explain the situation to the younger ones.

- Kuta, pack your things and leave right now - the woman spoke a little calmer - tomorrow we will see about the divorce -.

Mr. Kuta with a simple nod of his head went to pick up his things.

- Children, let's eat something - with a fake smile, Mrs. oyuki decided to take her children to the kitchen.

- But daddy - tried to interrupt the little boy with messy hair.

- Dad will be fine, now let's eat -

Both children without saying another word decided to listen to their mother, they didn't know what was going on, but both little ones had a bad feeling.

It had been about 3 years after that event, Mrs. oyuki had kept custody of the children but still let them visit their father whenever they wanted, after a while the three had moved to a house in the mountains in Miyagi prefecture where things had changed, their mother had forbidden them to continue playing volleyball as it was the sport that reminded her so much of her ex-husband, both kids simply decided to ignore that and follow their dream of being the best in that sport (I feel Natsu who convinced her brother not to listen to her mother) both brothers being together at any time and supporting each other, but that of staying together at any time was interrupted one day in their last year of middle school.

- How many times do I have to tell you that it is forbidden to play volleyball? - said oyuki welcoming her sons with bottle in hand.

- How many times do we have to tell you that we won't stop our dream just because you don't like it? - answered the youngest one, she was a little bit fed up of having the same talk every day after the club and she was fed up of seeing her mother with bottle in hand.

- You are rude - being drunk she spoke aggressively to her daughter - as long as you live under my roof volleyball is completely forbidden! - In a sudden movement the older one's hand hit against Natsu's cheek.

At that precise moment the whole house was in a complete silence, Shouyou didn't know perfectly what to do in this situation, his mother who had never hit them had just slapped her daughter.

- Natsu...- the alcohol in Mrs. Oyuki's veins dropped immediately when she found out what she had just done.

- I want to go live with my dad - said the youngest - I'm sick of being here under the same roof as you! - shouted angrily the girl with pigtails running straight to her room to pack her things.

- Natsu! - shouyou ran after her, arriving to the room they shared together watching how his sister packed her things with tears in her eyes - Natsu please don't go - tears were coming out of the boy's sweet eyes.

- I'm sorry shouyou, but I'm sick of mom's behavior - she was still packing her belongings - are you coming with me? - this time the younger girl turned to look at her brother.

Shouyou wanted to accept without thinking, but she turned to look at the figure of her mother who was still standing there at the entrance, with bottle in her left hand and looking at her right hand, the hand with which she had hit his sister.

- You go, I don't want to leave mom alone - he answered, she had not been the best since the moment of the divorce, but she was still his mother and he didn't want to leave her alone.

- Are you sure? -

Shouyou just nodded without saying anything else.

- Then I'll be waiting for you at dad's house on weekends - the youngest hugged her brother to leave the room with the phone in hand and start a call with her father.

All the memories of what had been his family were running through the orange-haired man's head again as he looked out the window of the train, it was a Friday night and he was on his way to his father's house to spend the weekends as he had been for years. As he arrived at the prefectural station, he couldn't see his sister anywhere. He didn't see his sister anywhere, she was the one he used to pick up every time he came, but apparently this time she was a little late.

- Good evening, are you Hinata Shouyou? - the short man heard a voice of someone almost his age behind him.
