Chapter Text

Day 27: Liar – Lost/ Stranded/Stuck

Castiel was going to murder his big brother. Gabriel was fourteen and had just presented and as the tests had predicted, Gabriel was an alpha. Castiel was supposed to be an alpha too but his brother insisted, “Cassie you’re too big of a baby to be an alpha.”

Gabriel was a trickster which brought Castiel back to why he was going to kill him. Castiel’s parents had brought them out to the country for a picnic and fresh air. Growing up in the city was hard for a werewolf, especially in adolescence. So Michael and Naomi took their pups to the country whenever their busy work schedule allowed. Castiel couldn’t help but roll his eyes because everything their parents did was to look good in front of all the rich people they hung out with. They probably didn’t care much about their children’s’ development as long as they didn’t disappoint to them.

Gabriel invited Castiel to go walking in the woods for a Snipe Hunt. Castiel had never heard of such a thing but wanted to follow along with his big alpha brother. Next thing Castiel knew, he was lost in the woods with his big brother no where in sight. He was only ten years old and the forest was scary to one who grew up in the city. Gabriel was a big fat liar and he bet there was no such thing as a Snipe Hunt.

He was sitting on a log crying, with his knees pulled up to his chest. The sun was starting to go down and he was getting cold and hungry. Did his parents even realize he was missing? Castiel guessed they probably didn’t and he doubted that Gabriel would point it out since this was all his fault.

Castiel jumped when someone sat down beside he. He expected it to be Gabriel back to make fun of him for crying but it wasn’t. A boy that looked about his age was sitting next to him. The boys eyes were a vibrant green and he was wearing jeans and a flannel shirt.

“Why are you crying?” the boy asked.

“I’m lost. My big brother left me behind as a joke.” Castiel sobbed out.

“You’re not from the forest because I haven’t seen you at any of the full moon runs.”

“No I’m from the city. You have full moon runs?” Castiel was intrigued.

“Yeah. You don’t in the city?”

“No, we are discouraged from shifting.” Castiel wished he lived in the forest with this boy. When the full moon rose each month he longed to shift and howl out. When he told his parents they had called him a heathen and threatened to punish him if he shifted or made a peep. His mother Naomi had commented, “I always knew ‘this one’ had a crack in his chassis.” Gabriel had found the comment funny but Castiel had cried himself to sleep that night. He was pretty sure his parents didn’t love him.

“I’m Dean.” The green eyed boy said, holding his hand out to Castiel.

“I’m Castiel.” He responded, grasping Dean’s hand. It was warm and Castiel felt an electric charge in between them.

“Wow. That feels so weird but good.” Dean marveled.

“I’ve never felt anything like it before.” Castiel didn’t want to let go of Dean’s hand so he didn’t.

“I’ll take you back to our village. My Uncle Bobby will know what to do. He’s the pack alpha.” Dean said, encouraging Castiel to stand.

“Are you going to be an alpha?” Castiel asked.

“No. My dad had me tested when I was a baby. I’m going to be an omega. My little brother Sam is going to be alpha. He’ll be the next pack alpha after Bobby. Bobby adopted Sam and I as his when our parents were killed.”

“I’m sorry about you parents. I’m supposed to be an alpha but Gabriel says I’m to big of a baby.” Castiel really wanted to punch Gabriel.

“That’s not nice. Sam is quiet and thoughtful. Alpha don’t have to be assholes my Uncle Bobby says and omegas can be strong and stubborn like me.” Dean explained.

I like your Uncle Bobby.” Castiel wished he was apart of their pack.

“Then lets go meet him.” Dean suggested, offering a smile.

“I’d like that.” Castiel said never letting go of Dean’s hand. They already had a bond and Castiel kind of wished he never had to let go.

Chapter 2: Finding Home

Summary:

Day 28: Animal - Baby

Castiel and Dean make it back to the Singer Pack.

Chapter Text

Day 28: Animal – Baby

By the time Castiel and Dean made it to Singer Village, it was pitch dark and the autumn night was chilly and damp. Dean had given his flannel over shirt to Castiel. Dean had a long sleeved shirt on underneath and he insured Castiel that he’d be fine without his flannel when Castiel had tried to protest.

Naomi was strict about what they were allowed to wear. She dressed them not based on practicality but on style and fashion. Her pups were nothing but models to display their wealth and superior intellect. Or what they deemed superior. Castiel wasn’t so sure. Bringing your pups to the wilds, in autumn, dressed in a fancy short sleeved polo shirt, dress pant made of thin fragile material and dress shoes, didn’t seem very intelligent to Castiel. Dean didn’t think so either when they’d discussed.

Castiel didn’t know what he expected from weres living in the wild but it wasn’t this. In a huge clearing they came upon probably ten cabins all built along the outer perimeter of the round clearing. In the center of the clearing was a large fire pit, a stone stage, a couple of covered seating areas, and a large ancient looking well. Castiel was instantly fascinated and longed to stay here.

Dean led Castiel to the largest cabin and on the porch sat a man dressed much like Dean was. The difference was the man had an impressive beard and a dirty ball cap on. “Thought I was going to have to send a search party out for you, boy. Who’s your friend?” the man said, raising his eyebrows as noticed the boys holding hands.

“His name is Castiel and he’s a city wolf. Castiel this is my uncle Bobby and pack alpha. Cas’ big brother played a prank on him and it caused him to get lost in the forest.” Dean explained.

“Sounds like something you’d do to Sam.” Bobby said smiling at Dean. “What’s your parents names? I’ll send Garth to get Jody, the county sheriff.”

Castiel told Bobby what he needed to know. Then Bobby asked nonchalant, “What’s with the hand holding?” The boys had not let go once since they had arrived.

“It’s the weirdest thing. There’s this weird charge when we touch and we just don’t want to let go.” Dean explained.

“Really? Castiel do you know what your designation will be?” Bobby asked.

“He’s going to be an alpha.” Dean chimed in.

“Boy, let Castiel answer for himself.” Bobby chastised. Dean lowered his head and blushed.

“Yes, sir. I’m supposed to be an alpha but my parents and brother don’t see it. They make fun of me because I don’t act like what they think an alpha should.” Castiel said moving closer to Dean. He felt stronger and safer when he was close to the omega.

Bobby took note of the gesture and said, “Is that so? Has Dean told you how our pack sees things?”

“He has. Wish I could stay here.” Castiel lamented and Dean threw his arms around him. It was just what the little alpha needed.

“I see. Well let’s get you two inside. My omega, Karen, had the urge to make extra for dinner tonight. I thought it was because she knew what a pig Dean was for pie and burgers but I suspect you, Castiel was the reason after all. In you go and wash your hands.” Bobby said, ushering them inside.

Introductions were made between Karen, Sam and Castiel. As the boys all washed up for dinner, Bobby and Karen had a hushed conversation. Sam seemed really taken with Castiel and wanted to know what the schools in the city were like.

Castiel found dinner with the Singers amazing. They had had a chef at his house that made fancy food that Castiel never really liked but Karen’s homemade burgers, fries, and pie were like manna from heaven.

“I never thought I’d find someone that likes burgers more than Dean.” Karen laughed.

“These make me very happy. I’ve never had such good food. Thank you.” Castiel said, with tears welling in his eyes.

‘What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Karen asked.

“I don’t want to leave here. This feels like home. I’ve never felt like this before.” Castiel let the tears flow as Dean pulled him into his arms.

“It’ll be okay, Cas.” Dean said, running his fingers through the boys hair.

Karen and Bobby shared a meaningful look. Sam came over to hug Castiel from behind. “Let Cas stay.” Sam insisted.

“It’s not completely my call. When Jody locates Castiel’s parents we’ll hash this all out.” Bobby consoled. The old alpha didn’t want to let Castiel leave either.

Garth returned not long after Karen had tucked Castiel in with Sam and Dean. They decided to talk on the porch so they wouldn’t wake the pups up.

“What did Jody find out?” Karen asked Garth.

Garth looked angry. “Jody finally tracked down the parents. They’re staying at a hotel out on the highway. They didn’t even report Castiel missing. When Jody informed them a local pack had found him, they’d seemed disappointed. When Jody informed them that Castiel’s true mate had been the one to find him they shrugged it off. Their only concern was if they would have to take Castiel back.” Garth was nearly growling by the end of his speech.

“Who throws their baby away like that?” Karen was bereft. Bobby and her had not been able to have pups of their own. They’d been blessed to adopt Dean and Sam. It broke her heart to think of someone throwing away the blessing of a pup like that.

“Animals, that’s who. The city folk think they are so much more civilized than us forest weres. They’re not. They’re just a bunch of selfish people who value money and prestige more than family. Castiel has a new family here and he’s already said he wants to stay.” Bobby said anger and conviction apparent in his voice.

“Jody figured as much. She’s had Cain get the documents prepared for them to sign Castiel over.” Garth informed them.

“Yeah. I’m not going to let Dean’s alpha mate be subjected to any more abuse by those assholes.” Bobby looked toward the window that the boys were sleeping behind. “I think Castiel is a good match for Dean’s omega. They already have the profound bond just from touch and they are both unpresented. Yes, I think this is what needs to happen.” Bobby said, looking to his mate for her agreement or disagreement.

“I wholeheartedly agree. Castiel is a sweet little alpha. I think here where he won’t be forced to be something he’s not is the best place for him. His parents don’t deserve him.” Karen responded vehemently.

“Yes we’ll tell him at breakfast in the morning. We should let the pups have a good nights rest before telling them.” Bobby hoped Castiel would be okay. Maybe he should have Missouri join them at breakfast. The women was an excellent wise omega and would know how to council them all to deal with the situation.

“I’ll let Jody know you accept. She figured you would anyway.” Garth said heading back to his old beat up station wagon.

“He’ll have a good home here.” Karen declared.

“He sure will.” Bobby smiled and kissed his mate.

Chapter 3: Officially Family

Summary:

Day 29: A million Reason - Water

Chapter Text

Day 29: A Million Reasons – Water

The next morning Karen made pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. Dean came to the table with Castiel and Sam following close behind. Karen made six year old Sam his plate as she usually did. Karen stopped to watched as Dean helped Cas load his plate down. It was absolutely precious and warmed her heart.

“Bacon is the best Cas.” The little omega said putting two pieces on Castiel’s plate before putting two on his. Karen set juice in front of all three pups before sitting down to eat herself.

“Where’s uncle Bobby?” Dean asked, with his mouth full of food.

“Swallow your food before you talk Dean. Bobby had business early this morning.” Karen explained.

“Bobby’s never goes out this early.” Dean said, looking at Karen suspiciously.

“There are a million reason a pack alpha might need to attend to business first thing in the morning. Now eat. You’re growing pups and need your nutrition.” Karen didn’t want to say anything until Bobby returned from the small town. Jody and Cain were accompanying Bobby to the hotel where Naomi and Michael Milton were. Apparently the Milton’s didn’t even want to say goodbye to Castiel. It broke her heart.

When the pups finished eating, Karen instructed them to brush their teeth and get dressed. “I only have the clothes from yesterday and they’re dirty and ripped.” Castiel lamented. He had borrowed pajamas from Dean the night before.

“It’s okay. Cas. I have a pair of jeans and a t-shirt you can wear.” Dean said hugging the little alpha.

Karen smiled, “There’s a new toothbrush already on the sink for you. Sam and Dean will show you where everything else is.” This was going to work as long as the Milton’s didn’t cause trouble. Karen felt blessed to have another pup in the house.

While the boys were dressing, Bobby arrived back home with Missouri in tow. “Morning Karen.” Missouri greeted, before kissing Karen on the cheek.

“Where are the pups?” Bobby asked.

“Getting dressed. How did things go?” Karen asked.

“As well as expected. They are truly awful people. When their older son cried because they wouldn’t let him say goodbye to Castiel, they told him he was disappointing them because alpha’s aren’t ‘cry babies.’ I’m glad Castiel won’t be returning with them.” Bobby sounded exhausted already.

“We’ll need to go shopping for clothes and things for him.” Karen said thoughtful.

“Naomi said she’d ship his things. Not sure what will be useful to the pup here in the forest but we’ll take care of his physical needs.” Bobby assured.

“I will see what I can do about his emotional ones, the poor pup.” Missouri lamented.

Karen went to check on the pups and found all three standing in a puddle of water as they brushed their teeth. “What in the world happened in here?” Karen scolded.

“Sammy forgot to close the shower curtain again.” Dean said, taking his brush out for a moment to answer.

“Sorry. I forgot.” Sam said looking at the floor.

“It’s alright just remember next time.” Karen said, throwing a towel down to soak the water up. “When you’re done come to the kitchen. Bobby’s back with Missouri and they need to talk to Cas.”

“He’s not leaving.” Dean said defiantly, pulling the little alpha against his chest.

“Calm yourself Dean. No, Castiel is not going anywhere.” She assured. Karen watched for a few moments as Dean held onto Castiel and the little alpha seemed at home there.

When Karen came out, Missouri and Bobby were drinking coffee. “Did you two get breakfast?” Karen asked.

“Yeah, Garth went out and picked us up something.” Bobby said in-between sips of coffee.

All the adults sat in silence as they waited for the pups. When they finally came into the kitchen Dean had Castiel tucked behind him. Dean seemed to be checking the surroundings for a threats. Castiel stayed close to Dean as he looked around Dean’s shoulder. Sam flanked Castiel, like he too was protecting Castiel, even though he was only six.

“Come have a seat boys, there is no need to be on guard.” Bobby called out. Nevertheless when the pups sat down, they made sure Castiel sat between them. “Castiel, it has been decided that you are staying here permanently.”

“Is that what you want Castiel?” Missouri asked sweetly.

“Yes, Ma’am. I like it here and I don’t want to be away from Dean.” Castiel said solemnly.

“Dean, how do you feel about Castiel staying here?” Missouri turned her attention to Dean.

“I think it is awesome. Cas is my best friend.” Dean said, taking Castiel’s hand under the table.

“Sam, how do you feel about it?” Missouri turned to the six year old pup.

“Cas is family.” Sam declared with as much seriousness as a six year old could muster.

“What about my parents?” Castiel looked to Bobby, worried.

“They have agreed and will ship your belongings.” Bobby said carefully.

“They didn’t say goodbye.” Castiel held back tears.

“I’m sorry, son.” The pack alpha said looking to Missouri.

“Castiel, I know it hurts but you have a new family now. Bobby and Karen is going to make sure you grow up right.” Missouri encouraged.

“Okay.” Castiel said as he turned to Dean. The little omega pulled Castiel in for a hug.

“You and Dean have a profound bond, sugar. Hold on to that Castiel. It’ll get you through.” Missouri comforted.

“A profound bond… what kind of bond?” Dean said, confused.

“You’ll discover that in time. Right now, Dean, take your best friend down to the water. I’m sure he’d love to learn to fish. Try not to hook your little brother’s hand again though.” Karen suggested.

“It was one time.” Dean huffed out, as he herded Castiel and Sam out of the house.

“When those two present they’re going to give us grey hairs.” Bobby grumped out.

“Hate to tell you, mate, but me already have grey hairs.” Karen laughed.

“You all are going to be just fine. I see those two in a little over ten years mated, with a pup on the way. Don’t worry, it’s all going to be fine.” Missouri insisted.

Bobby and Karen were inclined to believe her. Missouri just knew things.

Day 30: Fingers - Breathless

Chapter Text

Day 30 Fingers- Breathless

“It’s okay, Cas. Don’t be embarrassed.” Dean tried to console his best friend by running his fingers through Castiel’s unruly hair. Yes, that did feel good but the little alpha couldn’t help but be embarrassed.

It was the first full moon run since Castiel had come to live with Dean and his family in the forest. When he lived in the city, with his birth family, changing into wolf form was strongly discouraged. By strongly discouraged, he means it was beaten out of him by the time he was five years old. If it wasn’t the nannies his parents hired, it was his actual parents doing everything in their power to instill that allowing your wolf to take over meant pain and misery.

The little alpha didn’t know if he’d just forgotten how to change or if he was emotionally blocked from changing because of the abuse he’d suffered. Dean was missing out on the run because of him. Even six year old Sam had trotted off in his brown and tan wolf form, leaving them behind.

Dean still stood before Castiel, in his human form, refusing to leave Castiel behind. “Dean, go be with your family.” the little alpha said, trying to hide his embarrassment and shame in the shadows of the night.

“You are a part of my family and you don’t leave family behind.” Dean declared, as he made Castiel look at him by putting his fingers under Castiel’s chin.

“I’m not worth it.” Maybe his parents were right. Maybe he was broken.

“Yes, you are because I say you are. Now let’s focus. I’m going to help you alright?” Dean said, as he pulled Castiel against his front.

Castiel nodded and allowed the closeness. He took in Dean’s scent. It was faint, like his own, because they were unpresented, but It made Castiel feel loved and at home. “Okay.” he finally whispered.

“Listen to the forest, smell all the scents on the wind and let that course through. Feel my heartbeat.” the little omega said, taking the little alpha’s hand and placing it on his chest. “We are wolves and yours is just below the surface. It wants to come run with me. It’s okay to let him out because your wolf is safe here. You have a new family that accepts and loves every part of you. That includes your wolf, Castiel.” Dean said calm and slow.

Castiel felt something start to move under his skin. It was something he’d felt before but the memory was faded like a long forgotten dream. The feeling continued to build.

“That’s it. You’ve got it Cas. Don’t hold him back. Let that feeling spread throughout your body. Bobby said it’s like coaxing a campfire alight. Like the flames you need to let the feeling spread and let your wolf free.” Dean encouraged him.

The little alpha did just that. He moved away from Dean, when he felt he was about to change. A moment later he felt his skin split and his wolf was finally set free. It felt so good. Like he’d been stuck in a dark cave in stagnant air for years and finally got to breathe fresh air.

“Wow, your wolf is beautiful.” Dean was looking at him in admiration.

Castiel let out a questioning noise. The little alpha had no idea what his wolf looked like.

“Your fur is dark like the night but I bet there is brownish red in it in the sunlight. You have some white that runs along your belly. Your eyes are still that bright beautiful blue. You're a handsome wolf.” Dean blushed when he said the last statement.

Castiel didn’t know how to take the compliments so he gave into his want to see Dean’s wolf. He nosed at Dean’s hip and made impatient noises until the little omega got the point.

“Alright Cas. Give me a moment.” Dean stood silent for a moment after that, taking deep breaths. Then with a grace Castiel knew his change did not have, Dean transformed into a gorgeous black and gray wolf with soulful green eyes.

The little alpha found himself breathless as he looked upon his best friend. He felt it then, a primal longing. This wolf before him was a part of him. He couldn’t explain it beyond that.

Once they had scented each other in this form, they got playful. Dean nipped at Castiel and then tore off running into the forest. The little alpha didn’t even have to think, he just chased right after the little omega. He knew he’d always chase Dean no matter the consequences.

Day 31: Costume - Chocolate

This was turning out to be an intimidating situation for Castiel. In the city his parents' emphasis on his education had been almost completely academic. What he needed to know could be found in between the covers of books. Here in the forest, things were different.

For the last few of days, Bobby had been working with Castiel to teach him to defend himself. It was then that Castiel’s new family found out just how uncoordinated he was. He had quite a few bruises and scrapes that were at different stages of healing, from all the times he had tripped over his own feet. Karen would meet Castiel each night when he came in for dinner with a first aid kit. It was both embarrassing and uplifting to experience this type of attention.

Today’s lesson was not only how to defend yourself but how to work together with a partner to defend against a common enemy. Dean was his partner. It didn’t take Castiel long to realize Dean was a natural at it. For some reason Castiel felt such pride that Dean was such a good fighter.

After the fifth time of failing to perform a move the way Bobby had instructed, the pack alpha pulled Castiel aside to talk to him in private. “Cas, I know your instincts are screaming at you to protect Dean at all cost but he can take care of himself. You need to focus on working together to defeat the aggressor.” Bobby chastised.

“I don’t understand.” The little alpha had no idea what Bobby was talking about. He thought he had been following the instructions to the best of his abilities. He knew he was slow and uncoordinated but he was trying his best.

Castiel watched a few strange emotions wash over Bobby’s face. At first he thought he saw confusion, then understanding, and the last was a happy proud grin. “It’s okay boy. It’s natural to want to protect those you love. Each time, when you're supposed to be standing side by side in a defense stance with Dean, you’re actually pushing Dean behind you. You’re not allowing him the ability to properly engage with the aggressor along with you.” Bobby explained, kindly.

Castiel pondered this for a moment. “I didn’t realize I was doing that. Why would I do that? Dean’s so much better at fighting than me. I’m an idgit, like you always say.” Castiel couldn’t help but sound quite forlorn.

“You’re not exactly being an idgit. Your instincts are just driving you to protect Dean because of your bond.” the older alpha explained.

“Because we’re best friends.” the little alpha inferred.

“We’ll go with that for now.” Bobby said in avoidance. “I think we’ve done enough today. You boys go inside. Karen has your costumes waiting for you.” Bobby said, so both Dean and Castiel could hear.

“What costumes?” Castiel didn't know what Bobby was talking about.

“Aunt Karen makes us costumes every year for the Halloween safe night in town, It’s like the old fashioned trick or treat except safer. It was Sherrif Jody’s idea. The big kids used to beat up the little kids and take their candy. It also cuts down on the egging of houses.” Dean explained.

“My parents never allowed us to celebrate Halloween. Gabriel, I think was the most upset about that since it is all about candy and pranks. That’s basically his whole personality.” Castiel wondered what his big brother was doing right now. Was he stuck at home, being forced to study and pray, instead of having fun or being loved?

“You’re going to love it.” Dean insured him, as he put his arms around the little alpha’s shoulders and led him into the house.

Karen was already putting the finishing touches on Sam’s outfit. When they walked in, she held up two more outfits. “Time to change.” she said, handing the costumes to them.

Castiel examined the garments. “Cowboys?” the little alpha said unsure.

“Not just any cowboys, Cas. I’m Wyatt Earp, the famous lawman. You’re Doc Holiday, Wyatt’s best friend. Sammy is Warren Earp, Wyatt’s little brother. It's perfect.” Dean was so enthusiastic.

“Doc Holliday?” Castiel pondered out loud.

“You know Tombstone, I made you watch it?” Dean sounded a little put out that Castiel wasn’t as ethuased as him.

Something clicked and Castiel said, as deeply as his ten year old voice allowed, “I’m your huckleberry.”

“Yeah Cas.” Dean smiled and pulled Castiel into a hug. When the little omega pulled out of the embrace, he left a quick kiss on the little alpha’s cheek.

Castiel turned away because he felt his cheeks heat and pretended to examine his costume in more detail to hide it.

“You need to hurry and get dressed. Garth and Bess will be here to pick you up in thirty minutes. Karen and I have to load up the car with the refreshments for the community center. Now go on… git.” Bobby said, waving his hands to usher them toward the bedrooms to change.

Once Castiel was dressed, it took another five minutes to get Dean to let him leave the bedroom. The little omega meticulously straightened the little alpha’s costume multiple times as well as repositioning his hat until he decided it was perfect. Castiel couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. It felt good to be fussed over by Dean.

By the time they piled into Garth's car, Castiel was feeling curious and excited. Dean was holding on to Sam's and Cas’ arm. The little alpha just soaked in all the good feelings coursing through him. This must be what being in heaven felt like.

When they arrived at the community center, there were lots of people already milling about. Donna, Jody’s mate, was cheerfully handing out hot chocolate. A toddler dressed as a demon, was throwing a tantrum in the corner. A red headed teenage girl dressed as an angel was trying to calm her down.

People were positioned at tables all around the room handing out candy and other types of treats. Castiel clung to Dean’s arm because there were a lot of people that Castiel didn’t know.

“It’s fine, Cas. They don’t bite. Well most of them anyway. Stay away from the two guys in the corner dressed as ax murderers. That’s Azazel and his douchebag brother Alistair. They are part of the reason they started safe nights in the first place. They’re the ones who used to beat up the little kids for their candy.” Dean explained as he pulled Sam closer to him, protectively.

“They’re creepy.” Castiel said with a shiver as he covertly sneaked peaks at the two guys.

“Yeah, Alistair will always remember me though. When I was five, he tried to take my candy so I punched him in the knee then kicked him in the crotch.” Dean said proudly.

Castiel couldn’t help but laugh because it sounded just like something his best friend would do. “We’ll keep Sam safe.” Castiel insured.

“Yeah we will, Cas. He won’t suffer like we have.” Dean declared, hugging both Castiel and Sam close.

The only thing they couldn’t protect Sam from was the bellyache he got from eating too much candy. Maybe Castiel shouldn’t have shared his stash with the little six year old.

That night Castiel had trouble falling asleep. It wasn’t just because he had a sugar high but because he didn’t want to go to sleep and lose the feeling he had. The feeling of belonging and happiness was so euphoric. He never wanted it to end.

Chapter Text

Castiel had come to the conclusion that his parents had forgotten all about him. It had been almost two months since that fateful day, when the little alpha had become lost in the forest after he had fallen victim to his brother's prank. His family had not contacted him in any way which included sending him his belongings.

Bobby and Karen had supplied Castiel with everything he needed but he missed some of his books. Not necessarily the school books but the books he had managed to acquire for fun. He'd given up all hope of ever seeing them again.

Thus it was surprising when Garth arrived one afternoon with his car full of boxes. "They are all for you, little dude." Garth had announced as he started to unload them. Once the boxes were stacked in the corner of the living room, Garth took his leave of them.

In the middle of the living room, Castiel stood looking at the plain cardboard boxes as though they might attack. "Are you okay?" Dean said, coming up behind the little alpha. Castiel actually jumped when Dean touched him. "Hey little alpha, it's just me." Dean comforted, as he rubbed Castiel's shoulders.

"I'm sorry Dean." Castiel said leaning in and accepting the little omega's touch. "I guess I'm a little jumpy."

Karen and Bobby had been watching from the kitchen door. "Do you want to be alone, Castiel?" Karen asked at almost a whisper.

"If that would be okay. I'm not sure why this is affecting me like this. They said they would send my things but I guess in the back of my mind I thought they wouldn't. I thought they would just wash their hands of me and pretend I never existed." Castiel couldn't help but sound exhausted and tired.

"It's okay, Cas." Dean said, pulling the little alpha into a hug.

"We'll be here if you need us." Bobby said gruffly, before departing with Karen.

Sam gave Castiel a hug too before leaving for his room. Dean lingered for a moment, just looking at Castiel encouragingly and then giving him one last hug before following Sam.

Castiel took a couple of deep breaths before he started to open the boxes. He could tell right away that they were half haphazardly packed. Random items were in the boxes and there seemed to be no organization.

The only boxes that did seem to be organized were those that held Castiel's books. He quickly went through to check to see if his favorite books were there and they were. But then he came across something quite strange. He found a book on Norse mythology that he knew belonged to his brother Gabriel. He looked at the book for a few moments pondering how this possibly could have gotten mixed up with his belongings. He opened the front cover and inside he found a plain white envelope with "Cassie" written in his brother Gabriel's messy handwriting. His heart seemed to leap into his throat.

He stared at the envelope for a moment afraid to touch it. What was inside could make or break Castiel right now. He took another long breath and then retrieved the envelope from the front cover of the book. He tore open the envelope to find a couple of sheets of paper tri-folded inside. He opened the paper with shaking hands and there was more of Gabriel's messy scrawl on the pages. And then he began to read…

Dear Cassie,

I'm so sorry for what I did to you. At the time I was only thinking about the humor of it and didn't consider that our horrible parents would use it as a means to get rid of you.

I miss you Cassie. Our parents have focused all their ire on me and I don't think I can bear it for very long. Don't be surprised if in a few years I look you up because as soon as I'm old enough I'm out of here.

I hope the people that took you in are treating you well. Don't try to write me back because I'm afraid of what our parents might do. I might try to drop you a letter from time to time and maybe give you a heads up when I may be headed your way.

Live free little brother and I love you,
Gabriel

Castiel did not realize he had been crying until a single tear fell right below Gabriel's signature. At the realization that he was crying, the little alpha started to sob openly. He was lost in his grief until two arms wrapped around him. He cleared the tears from his eyes and saw Dean looking at him worriedly.

"Cas, are you okay? What can I do?" Dean asked worriedly.

"Just hold me." And that is exactly what Dean did until Castiel's tears dried up.

Once Castiel felt a little more stable, he allowed Dean to read the note from Gabriel.

"Do you think he'll actually do what he said?" Dean asked, still holding Castiel.

"Yes, I think someday I will see Gabriel again."

"Are you happy about that?"

"Yeah… I think I am Dean. Do you think Bobby will accept him?"

"Probably. Maybe you should ask him after dinner just to make sure." Dean offered.

"What about you, would you be okay if my brother came to visit or stay?"

"As long as he doesn't try any of his pranks on me. Cuz if he does I'm going to hurt him." Dean promised.

Castiel couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, I'll be right there with you. Thanks for cheering me up Dean."

"Anytime little alpha." Dean said, messing up Castiel's hair with his fingers.

Castiel had a home and a family here and maybe one day that would include his big brother Gabriel.

Chapter 7: An Autumn Tussle

Summary:

Inviting the new exchange students in town to the Autumn feast might not have been such a good idea.

Chapter Text

Most of the leaves had fallen from the trees, signaling that winter was close at hand. It was tradition in Bobby's pack to have one last bonfire before it became too cold. The night would start with a potluck feasting and end with a bonfire around which they would tell stories and memorialize those they had lost. It was both a somber occasion as well as a celebration.

Dean was excited because Missouri had promised to make some of her famous pies. Castiel couldn't help but feel Dean's excitement. Sam was looking forward to playing with some of the other pups before it became too cold to do so on a regular basis. Karen was making a huge pot of stew for the feasting. Bobby had spent most of the day with Garth and a few of the other pack members constructing the bonfire and setting up extra tables. Apparently Bobby had invited Jody and Donna to join them. It was also rumored that they might be bringing a few of the town pups along.

This was why they needed the extra tables and why Castiel was slightly nervous. He had become accustomed to the pack members but the addition of strangers made him cling closely to Dean.

The feast wasn't so bad because he was seated with Karen, Bobby, Sam and Dean. The little alpha sat quietly listening and observing the conversations but not taking part himself.

When Castiel's addition to Bobby's pack was brought up in conversation, the little alpha couldn't help but cower. Most did not notice but Dean did. He slung his arm around Castiel's shoulder and whispered to him about all the flowers they intended to plant the next spring to draw in the bees that Castiel loved and was fascinated by. Dean's efforts did the trick and thoroughly distracted Castiel from the conversation going on around him.

After they had all eaten so much that they felt like they might puke, they gathered around the bonfire and waited for Bobby to light it. It was during this time that Donna introduced three pups that not even Dean knew. Apparently they had three exchange students at the Town School that were from England. Their names were Ketch, Mick, and Toni. It was apparent from the start that these three new pups thought themselves far superior to their American counterparts.

Ketch made sure everyone was aware that he was going to be an alpha and that he was from a long line of well-bred alphas. He also tended to over pronounce everything or pompously pronounce something in order to make himself sound more intelligent. This really grated on Cas' nerves.

It also didn't take long for Dean to start growling at Mick. Mick's designation was Omega and he made it quite clear that his Omega wanted castiel's alpha. Castiel just found the whole interaction uncomfortable but he was grateful that Dean felt the need to protect him.

Toni, who was a beta, decided to go after the youngest Winchester. This of course caused both Dean and Cas to growl at her. Needless to say the introductions did not go as Donna and Jody planned. Instead of making new friends, it was pretty apparent they had just made three new enemies.

"I thought the town folk were backwards but now I see just how refined they are from you all. I mean you live out here in the forest like savages." Ketch said pompously as he indicated the surroundings.

"You better watch it. Your welcome can be withdrawn." Dean warned looking downright murderous.

"Oh don't worry pretty little omega, you are the best part of it." Ketch said looking at Dean like he was going to be dessert.

Castiel was on his feet growling at the little pompous alpha before he registered that he'd ever moved. Both Dean and Sam were trying to hold him back. "Stay away from Dean!" Castiel growled out.

"You, an alpha rejected by your own parents, think you can compete with me. I don't think so." Ketch boasted.

"There is no competition. I wouldn't consider you if you were the last werewolf on earth." Dean declared to Ketch.

"You can have the feisty omega but I want the blue eyed alpha." Mick said as he looked Castiel up and down. Dean responded by letting Castiel go and jumping to attack Mick. Castiel and Sam had to quickly grab Dean before it turned into an all-out fight.

"He's definitely a feisty omega. Shame this pack is going to be left to this little baby alpha. He's never going to be alpha enough to run a pack." Toni sneered at Sam.

It was on then. It took Bobby, Jody, Donna, Garth, and a few other people from the town to separate the six fighting pups. When it was discovered that the exchange students had started the ruckus, they were sent home early and threatened with expulsion from the exchange program. It was also made clear that their families back home would hear of their horrible behavior. That seemed to cower the British assholes.

That night after all the visitors had left, Dean pulled Cas aside. "Don't pay any mind to what Ketch said. Your parents were asshats and you're better than they'll ever be."

"I don't know. Sometimes I feel like such a loser."

Dean pulled Cas into a hug. "I wouldn't be best friends with a loser. You're not a loser, okay?"

"I believe you." Cas said with a weak smile.

"Anytime you're having those thoughts you tell me. I'll say it as many times as I need to because you'll always be my best friend."

That night Castiel fell asleep in a big puppy pile in between Sam and Dean. No matter what he knew he'd always have a home here.

Chapter 8: White Out

Summary:

A rescue mission ends with Castiel and Dean needing to be rescued too.

Chapter Text

It was the beginning of December and the weather was on the decline. The temperatures were frigid and the weather patterns unpredictable. They had yet to have any snow and Castiel was excited to see his first snow in the forest. Where he had lived and grew up, it was further south and much warmer. He’d seen a dusting of snow a few times but nothing like the stories Dean told.

Dean told stories of snow storms with drifts and massive icicles hanging off the cabin and trees. It sounded exciting and interesting to the little alpha. Sam talked about making snowmen and having snowball fights. It sounded thrilling and Castiel couldn’t wait to play with Dean, Sam and the other pups in the pack.

Sam was not going to be playing anytime soon though. The poor pup had the flu. Karen was nursing him and had forbidden Castiel and Dean from going in the room. They had to stand at the doorway and talk to Sam so they wouldn’t catch it. Bobby had gone to town to fetch the medicine Missouri said would help Sam feel better faster.

Karen was just about to take a tray of food and juice for breakfast to Sam, when she stopped. Dean and Castiel were just finishing their breakfast when they noticed her hesitate. “What’s wrong?” Dean asked worriedly. Had Sam’s illness gotten worse?

“Rumsfeld didn’t come to eat his breakfast this morning. While I tend to Sam, why don’t you two go look for him. Make sure to bundle up.” Karen instructed.

“Of course Mrs. Singer.” Castiel agreed. Rumsfeld was Bobby’s Rottweiler. He was a good guard dog and it wasn’t like him to stray or miss breakfast.

They donned their coats, gloves, hats, and scarves. Dean took glee in wrapping Castiel up in his scarf so much the little alpha could barely see where he was going. Castiel stumbled around for comic effect because he loved hearing Dean laugh even if it was at his expense.

“Where should we start looking?” Castiel asked, as they made sure the front door latched. The icy wind kept trying to blow it open.

“We should probably start with the game trails. Rumsfeld loves chasing rabbits. He rarely catches one but he sure does try.” Dean told Castiel as he took the little alpha’s hand and led them north toward a field that went along the forest that surrounded the settlement.

They walked for quite a while and Castiel was starting to worry something bad had happened to Rumsfeld. They had seen plenty of bunnies on their walk as well as deer, elk, and one really pissed off squirrel. It had barked and chittered at them in irritation. “What’s his problem?” Castiel asked as the squirrel continued making noises at them like it was yelling at them.

“Probably has a nest or a cash of nuts around here. He probably thinks we’re going to mess with it.” Dean explained as they continued on and ignored the angry squirrel.

They were just considering turning back because they were getting close to the pack land border, when they heard whining from the woods. “Did you hear that?” Dean said as he stopped and put his arm in front of Castiel to stop his progress.

They stood quiet for a moment until they heard rustling from the forest and the unmistakable whine of a dog. “Sounds like Rumsfeld is hurt or something.” Castel said, as they turned to enter the forest. They found themselves following a game trail straight into the forest.

It wasn’t too far until they came upon Rumsfeld with his leg caught in a bear trap. Castiel could tell the dog had struggled for a while trying to get free because the ground and vegetation was torn up quite a bit. "Poor thing." Castiel lamented as he noticed the dog looked worn out and was lying on the ground near motionless.

Rumsfeld perked up when he heard Castiel's voice but he stayed where he was and just wagged his tail a bit. "We'll get you out." Dean declared, crouching down next to the dog.

They did in fact get the trap off the dog's leg. It took the leverage of a stick, almost all of Castiel's strength, and Dean holding the dog to keep it still. Luckily the damage to the dog's leg wasn't too bad because Castiel didn't think they'd be able to carry it. Rumsfeld limped next to them as they made their way out of the forest.

Castiel didn't think they had been in the forest very long but when they emerged into the clearing the weather on the horizon looked ominous. Dark heavy clouds were headed their way, the wind was picking up drastically and the temperature seemed to be dropping fast.

"Cas we need to hurry because that looks like a blizzard about to hit." Dean said, eyeing the clouds with concern.

They hurried along as fast as Rumsfeld injury would allow but they refused to leave the dog behind. When the snow started, it wasn't gradual. It was like someone was dumping flour on them as fast as possible with no end. Visibility was down to almost nothing in less than a minute. "We need to find shelter. We're going to get lost if we continue much longer." Castiel suggested with worry evident in his voice.

"I know a place." Dean said, taking the little alpha's hand and leading them toward an outcropping of rocks. Rumsfeld made sure to stick close to them and follow. Castiel figured the dog would not be chasing rabbits again for a while.

Dean led them to a small cave hidden by bushes. “How do you know about this place, Dean?”

“Bobby has a friend named Rufus that comes through the area sometimes. When he visits, he stays here.” Dean explained.

Castiel thought it odd that Bobby’s friend would prefer to stay in a cave instead of the Singer’s warm cabin. “Is he a rogue?” If Rufus was hiding from hunters, that might explain the hideout.

“No. Aunt Karen always explained it was because both alphas have strong opinions that the cabin can’t hold. That was just her nice way of saying Bobby and Rufus disagree on a lot of things which usually ends up with them fighting. Karen doesn't abide fighting so when they start to disagree, Rufus comes here because he’s afraid of Karen.” Dean explained as Castiel helped Rumsfeld into the cave.

“Mrs. Singer can be quite intimidating.” Castiel agreed. When she caught him eating crackers in bed, he thought she might set him on fire where he lay.

“If we’re lucky Rufus might have left some supplies behind when he was here last.” Dean said hopefully.

To their relief they found a small stock of firewood, a few blankets, some MREs, and a few gallons of drinking water. Castiel was kind of fascinated by the MREs. He’d never encountered anything like them before and was impressed Dean knew how to prepare them.

“My dad was a Marine.” was all the explanation Dean would give on the matter. In no time they had a fire going and a few of the MREs prepared. Rumsfeld was not impressed with the food but he ate it anyway.

After they ate, they made a nest out of the blankets close to the fire and decided to nap. Dean held Castiel as the wind howled just outside the cave door. The little alpha could see drifts piling up at the mouth of the cave. He wondered how long they might be stuck here. The last thing Castiel remembered was watching Rumsfeld lick his injured paw while he laid close to the fire and the feel of safety of Dean’s arms around him making him feel content.

The little alpha was awoken by Bobby’s voice coming from just outside the cave, “Dean… Cas… y’all in there?”

Dean’s sleep laden voice growled out right by his ear. “Yeah we’re here.”

Castiel's sleep clogged mind made it seem like magic when Bobby was all of all of a sudden standing over them. “Thought you two might be hold up in here and you found Rumsfeld.”

“Found him caught in a bear trap. Aunt Karen is going to want to tend to his leg when we get back.” Dean explained.

“Well, the snow has stopped for now so let's hurry before it starts up again. You’ll be needing these.” Bobby said holding up two pairs of snow shoes.

Bobby carried Rumsfeld and they managed to make it back just before the blizzard started up again. Karen fussed over Rumsfeld as well as Dean and Castiel. The little alpha wasn’t as excited about the snow as he once was. He didn’t realize how dangerous something so beautiful could be.

Chapter 9: First Christmas

Summary:

Dean and Cas' first Christmas together with homemade gifts and bonding.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Christmas was fast approaching and Castiel was struggling to come up with something to make for his best friend. In the city people went to stores to buy the latest and greatest things as presents but here in the forest, things were simpler. You made your gifts by putting a little of yourself into the project while taking into account what the person receiving the gift might like.

Castiel's problem was that nothing seemed good enough for Dean. He'd made a bookmark out of a scrap of leather with Karen's help for Sam. Karen had also helped him make Bobby's favorite cookies for the alpha. Dean had taught him to make a potholder on a loom for Karen. Castiel had found the repetitive motion of weaving the potholder relaxing. He might have to do more projects like that in the future just for fun.

He finally decided to go to Bobby for help. He only had a couple days to Christmas and the little alpha felt panicked. He just knew Dean had made him something awesome. He didn't want to disappoint the little omega.

Castiel found himself pacing back and forth outside the alpha's workshop which was behind the cabin amongst a stand of pine trees. He was pacing not just because he was nervous but because it was quite cold. Snow was mounded up all around and icicles decorated the trees and the eaves of the buildings like nature's own Christmas decorations. Castiel was stopped in his tracks when Bobby's booming voice came from the open shop door. "Are you going to come in and tell me what's wrong or are you going to pace until you dig a hole to China?" the alpha growled.

The little alpha ducked his head to hide his blush at being caught having a meltdown. "Yes, sir." Castiel responded in a small voice.

"All right, out with it." Bobby insisted when they were both seated on wooden stools facing each other.

Castiel struggled with what to say for a moment. Was Bobby going to judge him for being too inept to come up with a gift for Dean. The little alpha shook off those thoughts because Bobby wasn't like his parents. "I can't come up with anything to make for Dean for Christmas. It has to be perfect because he's my best friend. I know he'll have something great for me and I won't be able to compete." The little alpha felt better after getting it all out.

"For one, it's not a competition. Whatever you make Dean, he will love because you made it with your own hands. Secondly, you need to calm down and stop stressing because you're too young to be this stressed. Close your eyes." Bobby instructed.

Castiel looked at Bobby confused. "What?"

"Just do it." the alpha insisted. "Now picture Dean. What is the first thing that comes to mind?"

"Warmth, love, the smell of leather and green eyes." Castiel whispered, like it was a secret.

"Good. Now what is something you can make to show him your feelings?"

Castiel chewed his lips for a moment until the idea just popped into his head. "A friendship bracelet." the little alpha said, slightly uncertain.

"Excellent idea son. I made one for Karen when we first courted." The older alpha said, grinning.

"Dean is just my best friend though."Castiel said worriedly.

"For now." Bobby mumbled.

"What?" Castiel said, not understanding what the alpha said.

"Nothing. I have some strips of leather we can braid into a bracelet. Also have some glass beads we can add." Bobby offered.

A few hours later and Castiel had an intricately braid bracelet that had a large green glass bead on one side and a similar sized blue one on the other. Between them was a slightly larger black bead that Bobby helped him etch an infinity symbol into. "It's perfect." Castiel proclaimed, "because we are going to be best friends forever." The little alpha's smile was big and gummy as he thought about having Dean by his side forever.

"I have no doubt about that." Bobby said, with a grin. The alpha couldn't wait until the day these two idgits realized they were true mates.

Later that night, Karen helped Castiel sew a fabric pouch to put the bracelet in. The little alpha couldn't wait to give his present to Dean. The idea of the little omega wearing something that showed they were bonded as best friends gave Castiel a feeling he'd not quite felt before. His wolf seemed to preen within him at the thought of claiming Dean as his.

The sun had barely rose on Christmas morning, when Castiel was awoken by a pillow to the face. "Wake up lazy bones.". Dean said, smiling down at him and wielding the pillow that had struck the little alpha in the face.

"Dean, it's still dark." Castiel complained.

"Up or Sam will eat all the cinnamon rolls before we even get a taste." Dean growled out, as he started tickling Castiel.

The little alpha managed to fight Dean off. They had breakfast in their Pj's. The cinnamon rolls were huge and completely homemade.

After breakfast they gathered in the living room in front of the fireplace to exchange gifts. Castiel said a silent prayer that Dean would like his bracelet.

Castiel was overcome with joy at what he received for Christmas. Karen had made a new winter hat, gloves, and scarf all in blue for him. Bobby had made him a wooden chest with his name carved in the lid, to put his stuff in. Sam had made him a leather bound journal with recycled paper. Sam informed him Karen taught him to make the paper and Bobby had helped him make the cover and bind the pages within. The little alpha couldn't wipe the smile off his face. They were wonderful gifts that he would remember the person who made them every time he used them.

Castiel and Dean exchanged gifts last. Castiel opened his first at Dean's insistence. "Bobby helped me make it a couple of weeks ago." Dean stuttered out. The little alpha got the impression that Dean was anxious for him to open it. Inside a small wooden box Castiel found a beautiful metal bracelet. Inscribed on it was 'Dean + Cas' and an infinity symbol. Castiel glanced at Bobby who had a grin on his face before hugging Dean like his life depended . Bobby had been the one to suggest Castiel include an infinity symbol instead of carving forever on Dean's bracelet.

Castiel couldn't help but stare at the bracelet on his arm and feel warm, like Dean's arms were still around him in a hug. The little alpha tore his gaze away from the bracelet so that he could watch Dean open his.

Dean pulled the bracelet from the pouch and immediately began admiring the pretty green and blue beads. When he saw the infinity symbol carved on the black bead he made a squeaking sound. A single tear slid down the little omega's cheek.

"Are you okay?" Castiel was afraid he had hurt Dean in some way.

"I'm good… I'm more than good. I love it, Cas. Will you help me put it on?"

"Of course." Castiel said, relieved.

Once the bracelet was secured Dean hugged Castiel but didn't let go. It was many long minutes before Dean pulled away. Dean stared into Castiel's eyes for a moment and then kissed Castiel on the cheek.

The little alpha blushed terribly. He tried to hide his face but Dean put his hand on Cas' cheek so that he had to hold eye contact. "Forever." Dean whispered only for Cas to hear.

"Forever." Castiel agreed and kissed Dean on the cheek in his own pledge.

Years later they would look back and say that was the moment their souls bonded.

Chapter 10: Time Passes, Things Change

Summary:

Castiel and Dean are all grown up.

Notes:

So I decided to give you a peak into adult Cas and Dean. There may still be more of this in the future.

Chapter Text

Time can pass so quickly. It seemed like yesterday that Dean had discovered him lost in the woods. Over a decade had passed by and Dean and Castiel were now twenty two and mated. Castiel feels very dumb for not realizing Dean was his mate from the very beginning. Everyone in the pack knew but them and maybe Sam.

Castiel had presented first and when he smelled Dean for the first time afterward he knew. Dean was thrown into presenting by Castiel’s pheromones. Karen had stayed with Dean in the cabin while Bobby had taken Castiel into the forest so he could work through his first rut.

The talk when Castiel had returned had been uncomfortable for two fourteen year olds. It was agreed they would wait until they were eighteen to mate. During those four years, Dean and Castiel strengthened their bond while they built their cabin, together.

Castiel became a skilled carpenter and Dean was an excellent engineer. The omega did an excellent job on the stone fireplaces they built in every room. They constructed a loft where they hoped their older pups would one day live.

Their mating ceremony was in front of the whole pack and the happiest day of Castiel’s life. Gabriel had attended and even though he teased and pranked Castiel the whole time, it had been great to have him there.

Their actual mating was pure bliss. Dean was beautiful and a firecracker in bed. Castiel could spend the rest of his life in bed with his mate and never be bored.

Nine months after they mated, Dean gave birth to their first pup, Claire. She had beautiful blond hair and had an attitude from the moment she drew her first breath. She was likely an alpha.

A year ago, they had their second child, Ben, a sweet quiet pup. He had Dean’s features and Castiel’s dark hair. They were predicting he was an omega or a beta.

Today they were at Bobby’s to celebrate Sam’s eighteenth birthday. Sam was already over six foot tall and still growing. It was just Karen, Bobby, Sam, Dean, Castiel and the pups. They were finding it really hard to keep their own news to themselves so they wouldn’t overshadow Sam’s day.

Dean was expecting again and they were both so excited about their third pup. It was still early though. They had seven months to wait for their next pup to arrive.

Castiel had thought Dean would want to stop at three pups but his omega had surprised him. “I want more, Cas. I want us to have to build onto our cabin before we stop.” Dean had confided.

“If that is what you want Dean, I am more than happy to comply. You’re never more beautiful than when you carry my pups.” Castiel had said as he ran his hand over Dean’s still flat tummy.

Castiel loved taking care of his pups. He actually fought Dean on who got to change them and feed them. He wanted his pups to feel loved and cared for by him, their alpha parent. His pups would not feel neglected or unloved like his own parents had made him feel.

Birthday cake and ice cream had been eaten and they were all relaxing as they digested. It was then that things changed. Castiel noticed that Sam was fidgeting and sweating.

“What’s with you, Sammy?” Dean had asked, lightly punching Sam in the shoulder.

“I don’t want to be the pack alpha!” Sam had exclaimed like he had been shocked.

Bobby and Karen's attention was on Sam now after his outburst. “What was that, son?” the older alpha asked.

“I don’t want to be the alpha of the pack. I want to go to college to be a lawyer. I got my acceptance letter and full scholarship last week.” Sam confessed, looking like he had just admitted to murder.

“Okay.” Bobby said.

“Okay? You’re not mad?” Sam said now with tears in his eyes.

“Not at all. I figured you’d come to me when you were ready.” Bobby said, patting Sam on the shoulder.

“Who will be pack alpha now?” Sam asked.

“Castiel.” Bobby said simply.

“Me?” Castiel was stunned.

“Yeah son. You’re a good alpha and you’ve already taken the Singer name. The pack loves you and they will easily accept you as my heir.” Bobby said almost nonchalantly.

“You’ve thought about this.” Dean accused.

“For a couple years.” Karen responded.

“That long?” Castiel asked.

“Yes. That was when I found all the college brochures under Sam’s bed when I was cleaning.” Karen explained.

“Me as pack alpha.” Castiel was just having trouble processing.

“Cas, you’d be great.” Sam said.

“Okay.” Castiel said, swallowing big. He knew he could do it but it’d take some getting used to. “I accept.”

“I love you, Baby.” Dean said, kissing him. “Should we go ahead and tell them?” Castiel nodded. Dean looked at their family and announced, “We are expecting our third pup.”

There were hugs and tears all around.
