Work Text:
He blinked, fitfully emerging from the void of sleep.
Kakashi. Kakashi- wake up!
He winced rubbing the at the acid sting of cold sweat from his eyes. Nightmare.
He breaths a sigh. It was another day, another agonizing reminder that he yes, was alive. Alive and a failure to everyone.
Don't worry Kakashi. You haven't failed anyone. Sure you abandoned Rin in her moment of need, left me to die alone and in pain after stealing my eye, and then watched as Sensei fell from Gamabunta, but it could be worse. Your students could be a jinchuriki, a bipolar and a kid obsessed with killing everyone close to him. Or you could have completely ignored two students trying to train the other one to watch him become a nukenin. Or you could have even seen your Tou-san commit sepuku!
Kakashi blanched.
Shut up Obito. You're not helping. Do you even know what those are?
Of course I know what those are Rin-chan! I'm not stupid. I-
Both of you should be quiet. Can't you see he's upset?
He stared down at the covers of his bed. Why must they torment him like this? They were dead. Dead and gone, burned, buried, and rotted away like his soul.
Why couldn't his past just do the same?
He waited, excepting rude words or a snide remark from Obtio. Rin's soft tears at being rejected. Even Sensei scolding him.
But nothing came. Obito made no comments. Rin was silent. Sensei didn't offer anything.
It was quiet. The recesses of his mind were blank. The apartment's old heating system made no noise. The birds had all flown south. Even Mr. Ukki had turned away from him. And he was alone.
I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm sorry I disappointed you. I'm sorry I let you die. I'm sorry I broke my promises. I'm sorry... just please... don't leave me ...
