Chapter 1: Rainy Night
Chapter Text
The lights turn on, illuminating a lavish room that somehow feels dark. A tall figure walks by and throws bandages on the ground as he is walking by toward the large bed. Once he is by the bed he plops down with a sigh. But his rest is short-lived by a harsh vibration in his pocket. He already knows if he picks up the call he is not going to be able to rest tonight. If he had emotions like normal people, it would be sad that anytime he gets any calls it's most certainly going to be someone who wants something from him. But he's the strongest so he has to pick up the call. It's not like he has anything to do other than sleep. So he pulled the phone from his pants pocket and without even looking at who was calling him, he answered the phone.
"Where is it and what is its grade? Anything less than grade one don’t bother asking me to exorcise." Gojo commanded.
"We have intel that there are several grade one and special grades near the mountains of Morioka. We can not confirm more details as we only received a distress signal from someone unknown." Ichigi spoke.
"Distress signal from someone unknown? You expect me to use my precious time to go investigate something. That should be your job."
"I apologize for the inconvenience. But we don't have any sorcerers near that area. And the location is far enough that you are the only one who can get to the area quickly." Ichigi tries to explain. Hoping Gojo would understand. He doesn't want to feel the wrath of either Gojo or the upper brass.
"Yea. I am not interested. Send someone else." Gojo said in a bored tone. As he is about to hang up.
"Gojo-san, please! You are the only one who can get to the area on time to save people" Ichigi pleaded.
"You don't have any hard evidence to confirm if there is any curse. As far as I know, someone's probably playing a prank on you. And going there would just waste my time." Gojo is starting to get impatient.
Ichigi didn't know what to do. Honestly, he doesn't know why the top brass only use him to deliver assignments to Gojo. He kept racking his brain for a reply until an idea came. "You wouldn't be wasting time going there even if there's no curse."
Now, an interested Gojo asked, "How so?"
Being cautious Ichigi tries "I heard Morioka has a cafe that sells a very popular mochi. Apparently, the flavor of the mochi is a well-kept secret. You might like it."
"Ichigi, are you bribing me with mochi?" Gojo asked in a serious tone. A tone that always gave Ichigi the chills.
"No..." Ichigi said thinking he might be dead.
"Well, it worked! I will check out the area. But you should prepare for your funeral if you lied about mochi." Gojo now cheerful. Although, the cheerful tone only made Ichigi more scared.
"I will text the address to both places right away."
With Ichigi's word, the call finally ended. And within the same minute, two text notifications appeared on Gojo's phone. With a quick look at the curse's locations, Gojo got up and walked over to the abandoned bandages on the floor. He thought about whether he should pick up new bandages. But that seems like too much work. It's going to be a long trip and he can't wait to try the new mochi. So he picked up already used bandages and wrapped them around his eye. Double checking the tightness of the bandages disappeared from the room.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was dark and dreary on the mountain. The heavy rain didn't help the mood of the area. Deep within the mountain, a lonely figure can be seen hiding in the gaping hole of a tall tree. The figure's small body shivered in the cold. This time of year is not a good time to be out in the mountains. The village people feared the mountains even during summer with its glorious daylight, so they would think anyone is crazy to go to the mountains at night at the height of the rainy season. If asked any villagers why they feared the mountains, they couldn't answer definitely. No one knows what resides in the mountain. It had been an unspoken rule in the village that no one enters the mountains. Rare tourists who wants to visit the mountains, the villagers tries to warn them to not go into the mountains. But never looked for them when they always disappeared into the mountains. No one knows what's in the mountains but no one dares to find out. Village people have always been smart about this kind of thing.
"So what am I doing on this mountain..." the small figure thought as she shivered. She kept a look out for any source of light in the distance. Unsurprisingly, never saw any. Instead of a source of light, the figure heard a source of darkness. The figure shivered more.
“They are coming. I am not done yet. I need more time!” The figured thought
The figure picked up a small radio. The figure didn’t know what will happen once the radio is used, but this is the last hope.
Amidst the heavy rain, a low static sound can be heard.
——————————————————————-
“It's terrible weather out here” is the first thing Gojo thought upon landing in the middle of nowhere. At least it feels like the middle of nowhere. If Ichigi sent the wrong location he will pay for it. “The mochi better be worth it.”
Gojo can’t feel any curse energy in this area. But he feels the presence of something. He pulled out the phone map to see exactly where he was.
“Hmm.. seems like I am near a village. Might find who sent the distress signal there.” Gojo thought as he teleported to the village.
The village seems dark and too quiet. As Gojo looks around he can’t find any life in the village. But there are clear signs of people living here. Without hesitation he bursts open a nearby house door and walks inside. No human is seen but he sees soup in a pot that’s starting to go bad.
“There must have been people living here a few days ago. So where are they now? It’s like they just vanished. Sounds like curses work to me. But why can’t I feel the curse? Could it have gone somewhere else?” Gojo pondered as he walked out of the house.
“Time to change my perspective!” Gojo thought as he teleported high up in the sky.
“It’s hard to see because of the rain. But I guess I don’t need to see with regular vision.” Gojo thought as he unwrapped the bandages around his eyes. Revealing his bright blue eyes. Which seems like the only source of brightness on this dreary day. Within minutes of looking over the area from a higher point of view, Gojo saw some curse energy deep into the forest. The curse energy seems too low and pure to be a special grade curse.
“So there are people left in this village. Let alone a sorcerer. Guess I am in luck!” With this though Gojo headed towards the mystery sorcerer.
As Gojo appeared close to the “sorcerer” he immediately saw two nails coming toward him. He didn’t try to dodge them as they were regular nails will be stopped by his infinite barrier. And the nails did stopped in front of his heart.
“You have good aim. I would be dead if I was a normal person. But you know it’s rude to throw things at a strang…” Gojo didn’t get to finish as he felt curse energy envelope the two nails and broke through his barrier. When that happened he also felt a small amount of curse entering his body. It’s hard to explain but it’s like the mysterious sorcerer's curse energy is resonating in his body. Gojo was shocked for a moment. Though the curse energy was weak and didn’t harm him, it still affected him. No one has broken through his infinite barrier let alone left a lasting effect other than Toji.
Gojo was amused. Who is this person? To break the strongest barrier. Recovering from his mini shock, Gojo immediately looked around to see where the sorcerer was. He saw a small figure weaving through the trees. Probably to hide for another surprise attack. The mystery sorcerer was so small that his naked eye could have missed the figure. Good thing he has his six eyes. Gojo effortlessly got behind the figure and grabbed the figure by the caller of the T-shirt the sorcerer was wearing.
The figure finally spoke, “ Let me go you stupid old man.” Struggling to get out of Gojo’s hold.
Gojo finally got a good look at the figure. The mysterious sorcerer turns out to be a little girl no more than 10 years old. She has short brown hair with a strong demeanor.
Shocked yet again Gojo spoke “Who are you calling old? brat. I will have you know I am only 20 years old.”
“I don’t care! You have white hair and a horrible personality. So in my book you are old. Now let go of me old man before I shove nails into eyes.” Threatened the little girl.
“Such disrespect from a little girl.” Gojo faking offense.
“But I can’t let you go until you tell me who you are and what’s going on here.” Gojo explained.
“Why should I have to say anything to a creepy old man like you!” The girl exclaimed as she tried to get out something from her pouch. But Gojo realized that she was trying to get out nails. So he immediately grabbed her wrist and held it back.
“It’s not safe for a brat like you to handle sharp objects. How do you know how to use it? Why are you here alone in the forest?” Gojo asked seriously this time. But the girl remained silent. With a sigh Gojo thought for a moment.
“Hold on tight and try not to move too much.” Gojo didn’t give the girl time to process what he said and disappeared with the girl. Only the sound of rain now accompanies the mountains.
Chapter Text
Gojo and the little girl find themselves in front of a Cafe. The little girl looks out of place in a busy street. With ragged clothes and soaked. While Gojo looks put together with clothes not dampened by the rain. They looked like an odd pair in front of the cafe, that probably sells overpriced sweets. But no one dared to question their presence.
“Listen brat. Let’s make a deal. I buy you anything you want from this cafe and you answer my questions. Cuz it seems like you could use a bit of fuel. How does that sound?” Gojo asked a little playfully.
“Now you really sound like a kidnapper bribing a kid with sweets.” The girl rolled her eyes.
“Who doesn’t like sweets. If it were me I would take the deal.” His tone still playful.
“Why would I make deal when I can just scream, help, help, he’s kidnapping me.” The girl mocked.
“Smart girl. But then police would get involved. And I am sure you don’t want that. Not to mention regular law enforcement couldn’t hurt me. At best they will be little nuisance.” Gojo gloated to the child childishly.
Gojo could see that he has won the argument by the way the kid gritted her teeth in annoyance. So he started walking into the cafe dragging the girl with him. “Come on now delicious sweets awaits us.”
—————————————————————
Deep in the mountains two figures can be seen searching.
“Where’s the girl?” Demanded the unusually tall figure. The figure seems very annoyed at the unnamed creature.
“…..”the creature mumbled.
“I suppose we still have time. After all she’s the one with limited time.” The tall figure says with a sinister smile.
——————————————————————
“You got to be kidding me” the girl looked both disgusted and shocked at the amount of sweet the odd man was consuming.
“What…” Gojo asked as he was putting the sixth mochi in his mouth.
“What do you mean what! how can you eat this much sweets all in one sitting?” The girl accused.
“This is actually a lot less than what I usually get. This secret recipe isn’t that good.” Gojo says nonchalantly.
“If you keep eating like that you are going to get fat.” The girl says mockingly.
“Is that worry I hear? Don’t worry I will forever have the perfect body. I am the strongest after all!” Gojo gloated again.
“By the way is this all you are having? You could order more. After all you are going to need the energy to answer all the questions.” Gojo says pointing at the milkshake and a pair of bagels.
“My appetite went away after seeing you eat. And I never promised you anything.” The girl tried to deny.
“What’s you name kid? I don’t want call you kid forever. Unless you want me to give you a name.” Gojo says ignoring the girls previous statement.
The girl says nothing. And just kept on eating her bagel.
“Hmm… brat seems like a good name for you. But that’s so unoriginal. You were out in the mountains weaving through trees like a frog. I know! you will be frog girl from now on.” Gojo sees that he hit nerve with that name. So he pushed forward.
“So frog girl do you live in the mountains with other frogs? Is you curse energy descend from frogs? But it didn’t feel like one when you hit me with it. Maybe you have other curse power that uses fro…”
“It’s Nobara.” The girl says cutting Gojo off.
“What did you say frog girl? You have to speak louder.” Gojo asks pushing his ear ms closer to her.
“I said my name is Nobara. Stop calling me frog girl. I hate frogs!” Nobara sats now frustrated.
“Oh so you do have a name. Tho I think frog girl still suits you better.” Gojo laughed as he dodged Nobara last bagel thrown at him.
“Ok ok, no need to get violent Nobara-Chan.” Gojo said to clam her down.
“Sooo…Nobara-Chan what’s your last name?” Gojo said trying to get more information on the mysterious girl.
The girl sighed. “Listen old man. I am the one in defense here. So if I am going to trust you, you should answer my questions first.”
“You wanna know about be? Sure! I am an open book” Gojo said lightheartedly.
Nobara is shocked at Gojo’s compliance. She was expecting a little more push back.
“I guess for starters whats your name?” Nobara asked still a little shocked.
“I am Satoru Gojo and I am the strongest jujutsu sorcerer out there.” Gojo said happily.
“Strongest how? You don’t look strong. But then again you did have a weird curse energy around you.” Nobara said thoughtfully.
“Are you doubting my ability? You must really been living under a rock. Or the mountains in your case.” Gojo mocked the girl to which she only scoffed.
“Allow me to demonstrate.” Gojo said as he stood up to pay the bill. In doing so he was quickly got distracted by the blushing cashier.
“Uggh look at him flirting.” Nobara though with annoyance. But she was finally free from the chilling gaze he was giving her the entire conversation. To an outsider Gojo might have seemed totally chill during their conversation but she could feel that behind those smiles laid something intense.
This maybe her only chance to escape from him. But she sense that’s he’s strong. And with his teleportation ability he will definitely catch up to her. So she would be just wasting her energy.
As she was deep though Gojo suddenly appeared in front of her and said “planning your escape so soon?”
“Of course not. You have been such a good company.” Nobara said giving her the sweetest smile she could muster.
“Of course I am pleasant to be around! Now let’s go.” Gojo said as he’s pulling her to leave the cafe.
“Where are you taking me?”
“You will find out” once they were outside, Gojo pulled them to the corner of the cafe, away from the busy street.
Nobara was surprised, even though it was purring outside she isn’t getting wet. She can feel a foriegn curse energy surround her. “This must be part of Gojo’s curse barrier. This was probably the thing that stopped my nails.” Nobara thought. As she’s thinking that she suddenly saw her surroundings change from outside to inside of what looks like a room.
“Alone at last.” Gojo said stretching his arms. “Sit down wherever you like. You wanna be comfortable for this.”
Without much complaints Nobara sat down on the bed. The bed was soft. It definitely felt like an expensive bed. Sitting on the soft material reminded her of how exhausting the past few days has been for her. She really hasn’t had any time to rest. As annoying as he may be, she was grateful for short rest time he provided for her, even he doesn’t realize that.
“Sooo Nobara-Chan what’s your last name? It’s clear that you are a jujutsu sorcerer. But you curses technique seems unique. And I haven’t heard of any sorcerers living in the area I found you.” Gojo asked as he sat down on the couch opposite to her.
“How can you be sure you can know every sorcerer?” Nobara said genuinely curious of his answer.
“Our community is very small and well connected. So it’s really not that hard to know everyone in the sorcerer space. Plus sorcerer are usually born only in certain families as we like to keep “power” within a the clan.” As he said that he sounded bitter about the fact. “Your lack of knowledge in this tells me you are not from a clan. So I ask again who are you?” This time Gojo sounded like he was demanding an answer.
“I…Can I really trust you?” This time the vulnerability of the girl was fully showing. She finally seems like a child who just wants reassurance.
For some reason Gojo felt pain seeing the girl in this state. Few minutes ago the girl was acting so tough. But now seeing scared made him feel the need to reassure and protect her. That’s a feeling he hasn’t felt in years. He doesn’t know how to deal with it. So he just went with his instincts.
He walked over the where she was sitting and knelt down in front of her. He unwrapped the bandages around his eyes. He wanted to show her how sincere he was as he spoke those words.
“I understand why you would be worried. But I promise you that you can trust me. I am not going to hurt you. I wish I can give more than my words but you will just have to believe me” Gojo said with as much sincerity as he can. After all he doesn’t do this often.
Nobara was stunned when Gojo undid his bandages. All this time she was thinking that he maybe blind. But looking at his eyes, she was sure that he wasn’t. Not only his eyes were stunning but his eyes showed warmth she was craving for. She felt like he was being sincere. Maybe she can trust him. After all he hasn’t harmed her yet. Plus she doesn’t have a lot of option right now.
“Wow! your eyes are beautiful. It’s unfair how how an old man such as you can have beautiful eyes.” Nobara said annoyed.
Gojo blinked at her comment for a moment. Then bust out laughing. Here he was pouring heart out but the girl just being a brat. Tho he was amused at her bluntness. And relieved at seeing her relax.
Nobara just glared at seeing that he was laughing at her. “It’s futile to be jealous you can never complete with me on looks.” Gojo joked.
“Laugh all you want now but your eating habits will catch up to you soon.” Nobara said smirking.
“All I hear is jealousy” Gojo said. But a moment of silence followed after. Until Nobara spoke again.
“My name is Nobara Kugisaki. I am 10 years old. And I am cursed to die.

Chapter Text
The Kugisaki’s were an unknown yet old family. They have lived near the mountains for generations. Many families in the village near mountains come and go but the Kugisaki’s stayed. Even with their long presence in the village no one knows them or give them a second thought. That’s how the Kugisaki’s preferred to live. The house the Kugisaki’s resided in is the farthest area in the village but it was nearest to the mountains. In fact some would consider the house to inside the mountains. Naturally because of the fear of the mountains, villagers never went to Kugisaki residence. Those who dared never really saw anyone living in the house.
Fumi a child of the village was very scared of that house. Being a shy and reserved girl, she never though to ever go in the direction of that house. Ironically being shy and reserved girl is what also lead her to the Kugisaki residence. The village kids always teased her for her personality. She always just took their teasing in without saying anything. She felt angry inside but could never let that anger out. But one particular day she couldn’t bare the bullying. With a missing shoe and soiled clothes, she ran towards where Kugisaki residence was. She didn’t even realize that she was in the farthest part of the village until she saw the humble home of the Kugisaki’s. She suddenly felt fear. She couldn’t pin point what but something felt very off in this area. She wanted to go home but going home would mean possible run in with her bullies. Undecided, she just crouched down on where she was standing and started crying frantically.
“Could you stop crying already. You are scaring yourself more by doing so.” Fumi heard a young girls voice. The girl sounded annoyed.
“I can’t help it. It’s the only way I feel comfort.” Fumi said still looking down and crying. She heard footsteps coming towards her. Fumi feared that the girl was coming to bully her also. But the footsteps stopped in front of her. Not hearing or feeling any movement from the girl, Fumi looked up to where the girl was. The girl looked to be her age with a confident stance. She held her hand out with an apple. Fumi was confused at this.
Sensing the Fumi’s confusion the girl spoke “here, eat this it will make you feel better. Food is always good when you are feeling sad.”
The girl had a bright smile as she said those words. Fumi help but feel happy. This was the first time in a while that someone her age has been kind to her. She timidly took the apple in the girl hand and took a bite. The apple tasted sour but also had hint of sweetness. She really liked the flavor.
“Isn’t it good. The mountains have the best fruit.” The girl said in excitement.
That was the first time Fumi met the girl named Nobara Kugisaki.
After their initial meeting, Fumi regularly went to Kugisaki household. She found out Nobara only lived with her grandmother. She was curious on what happened to Nobara’s parents but she never tried to ask. Nobara’s grandmother was rarely home when she came around. And whenever Fumi saw the grandmother, she was always told to go home. Of course every time Fumi did as she was told but what bothered her Nobara would always head towards the mountains when she left. Fumi can’t pin point what but she always felt some thing was off about the Kugisaki family. Like they were dealing with something that “normal” people can’t see.
As weird and mysterious as Nobara was she was very admirable. Nobara embodied the confidence and bravery Fumi always wished she had. It was easy to be around Nobara. She always said what she had in mind without filter and without double meaning. Something the village people weren’t good at. Nobara always talked about how she wanted to get out of this village and move to a big city but Fumi never seen Nobara even leave the mountain area.
So she once asked “why don’t you ever leave this place? You seem to really want to get out of here.”
Making Fumi more confused, Nobara replied “Because I am a Kugisaki.”
“What does your name have to do anything with you leaving?” Fumi asked. But Nobara never got to reply as Nobaras grandmother showed up.
“You should head home. It’s going to be a dreadful night.” Nobaras grandmother sternly said.
Nobara’s grandmother is always stern when she tells her this. But today there was something more dark about her tone. Nobara’s mood also darkened as soon as she heard her grandmother. Fumi wanted to know what was going on but she knew better to ask.
As Fumi started heading towards her home, Nobara suddenly called her. Fumi stopped walking and turned towards Nobara. Nobara held out a small radio towards her and said “If you see or feel something weird contact me through this. If I don’t answer use this nob to change the frequency and help will come.”
Fumi was confused. “Why? What’s going on?”
“Hopefully nothing but you might not believe me but the village might be in danger soon.” Nobara said.
“The village will be in danger!? How? How do you know?” Fumi was scared because Nobara was serious when she said that.
“I can’t tell and you wouldn’t understand just trust me on this.” Nobara was blatant.
“Then why don’t you come with me we can keep each other safe.” Fumi pleaded. Fumi didn’t know if she really wanted to keep Nobara safe of just keep herself safe.
“I can’t do that. Like I said, I am a Kugisaki.” Nobara said proudly.
“But…” Fumi was cut off by Nobara’s grandmother who stayed quiet the whole time “You should listen to my granddaughter. And go home.” She said it with no room for argument. So this time Fumi walked home without interruption.
While walking Fumi thought “the Kugisaki’s were scary.”
Chapter 4: The Kugisaki’s Part 2
Notes:
Finally a new chapter posted! Sorry for the delay. Life has been busy. Also I was struggling to structure this part. Hopefully the story line make sense. Enjoy!
Chapter Text
There was silence in the lavish room. Both party in the room was quiet and calculating what to say.
Gojo felt foreign emotion hearing the girl say what she said. There could be so many meanings behind those words. That one sentence had so much information that he didn’t know where to start unpacking. So he simply joked, “wow I didn’t know 10 year olds can say something so deep”
Nobara couldn’t believe the man who was so sincere a few seconds ago can now joke about the situation. “You are the one who asked me about myself now you joke about my honest answer?”
Seeing Nobara angry made it clear to him that his attempt to lighten the mood had failed. “Sorry Nobara-Chan I was just trying to lighten the mode after what you said.” Gojo tried to explain himself. It was weird to him that he would be this considerate to apologize. “I think I am doing this to get more info out of her.” Gojo thought trying to justify his emotions.
Nobara said nothing regarding his apology. Thinking this is a positive sign, Gojo asked “let’s firs discuss light topic. Like your family name, Kugisaki. I never heard of your family name. So who are this Kugisaki family?”
“We are sorcerers duh!!” Nobara said in an annoyed tone.
“That was very clear to me after you rudely hit me with your curse technique. What is that curse technique by the way? Your technique seems interesting.” Gojo now more eager to learn.
“It’s creepy to pry into something so personal about a girl.” The girl faked innocence.
Gojo laughs for a moment. “I am gonna get that answer out of you for sure. But for now tell me what happened in the mountains and the village?”
Nobara’s face went grim again. Gojo could tell the girl was scared and angry at the same time. “You need to be honest with me. I am only here to help. It’s clear that there’s a special curse in the mountains. But I can’t sense it. Why?”
“The mountains in this region are special. They are home to a special curse that the Kugisaki’s control. My family has been in this area dealing with the curse for as long as we existed. I don’t know why we are unknown in the sorcerers community. To be honest, you are the first sorcerer I have ever meet.” Nobara explained.
“Special Curse? What do you mean by that?” Gojo asked.
“Before that you said you went into the village did you find anyone?” Nobara asked in a frantic manner.
Gojo looked at the girl for a second. She looked scared and desperate when asking the question. Unfortunately, Gojo had a feeling that she’s not going like his answer. “No. The village was empty. It’s like people suddenly disappeared. I thought you already knew this.”
“WHAT!!! No. No. Noo….. I thought I had more time. Take me back to the mountains. Take me back right now!!” Nobara was was stressed. She tried to pull on the collar of Gojos jacket to make him take her to the mountains.
She looked like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. But Gojo saw true fear in her eyes. “Clam down why do you want to go back there?” Gojo said trying to hold her down.
“I can’t explain it right now. I need to go back right now. Please.” Nobara said trying hold back the tears threatening to fall down.
“I guess I am not going to get any answers out of her now. It’s better to check out whatever she’s scared of” Gojo thought. “Alright let’s go to the mountains.” Gojo said as he put the girl on his solder and disappeared from the room.
—————————————————————-
As Nobara’s grandmother said it was a dreadful night. Like any 10 year old, Fumi wasn’t fond of thunder or heavy rain. But this time it was not the thunder or heavy rain she felt scared of tonight. It was the atmosphere. Maybe she was scared of what Nobara said to her this evening. She was constantly getting goosebumps. Unconsciously, she kept the radio Nobara gave with her at all time. She knew Nobara wouldn’t lie to her about something so serious. So she kept the radio close just in case.
Another thunder strikes breaking Fumi’s thought. She heard the front door open. “Who would be here this late” Fumi thought. Both of her parents were home and they didn’t tell her about guests coming to visit. So she slowly walked towards the living room where the “guest” should be. Something felt off in her house. It was too quiet. When she walked in the living room, she saw no one. She then decided to call her parents. But heard no replies. So she ran to her parents bedroom. She saw no one. She ran to the kitchen she saw no one. The house was empty. Her parents can’t leave her alone. She didn’t know what to do. She ran outside to her house in the heavy rain. The streets felt quite too.
As she approached her neighbors door to ask for help she heard an odd noise from inside. So instead of knocking on the front door, she peaked inside through windows beside the front door. Luckily the curtains were separated enough to see inside. What she saw inside terrified her. She wanted to scream but she was frozen on the spot. She saw her neighbor lifted in the air and disappearing inside something invisible. Is that the threat Nobara and her grandmother were implying about?
She felt chills ran on her spine as her neighbor disappeared. She felt the invisible creature saw her. So she ran without looking back. She ran towards the only safe spot lave she knows, the Kugisaki household. She didn’t dare to to look back if the invisible creature was following her. There would be no point since she couldn’t see it. Fortunately she made it to the Kugisaki house without any issue. She knocked on the front door several times but no one answered.
Somehow she know the invisible creature was near by. So she ran towards the mountains. She’s breaking a rule that never shouldn’t have broken but if she’s in danger either way, she might as well try all her options.
The mountains were dark and cold. A child her age shouldn’t be here but the situation wasn’t normal. She didn’t know where she was going. Every tree and path seemed the same. While her running she suddenly felt a had pull on her shoulder. She screamed “Let me go! Let m…”
“Clam down child. Your shouting will only bring misery.” She heard a familiar stern voice. Fumi was both relieved and shocked to see Nobaras grandmother.
Seeing a familiar face definitely help ease her as she, without hesitation, ran and hugged the elder. Even though she thought Nobara’s grandmother was scary. The elder woman awkwardly patted the child. The comfort didn’t last long as Nobara’s grandmother collapsed on the ground. Fumi started to panic. “Are you ok!?”
“I am afraid I don’t have much time. Something sinister lies in these mountains. I know it’s hard for you to understand but I need you to do something. Not for me but for the people of this village…also for Nobara” Nobara’s grandmother was struggling. Though a child Fumi understood that Nobara’s grandmother wasn’t lying.
She was afraid. So so afraid. She wanted to run away but hearing she can help with the situation, she wasn’t going to run away. “What do I have to do?”
Nobara’s grandmother handed her four dolls made out of straws. “Place these where they should be. Nobara will find them when the time comes. After you placed all of them, run to our house as fast as you can. You will be safe there.”
“How do I know where to put them?” Fumi asked, holding the dolls tightly.
“Ask them where to put them. They will guide you to the right places.”
“What if the invisible thing shows up?” Fumi asked.
“I will try to keep the curse busy. But you have to hurry. If I fail you should use the radio Nobara gave you” Nobara’s Grandmother said standing up.
“The radio…”
“Go! You don’t have much time.” Fumi dint get to clarify more as she started running at Nobara’s grandmother’s command.
Just like Nobara’s grandmother said, as she asked the dolls where to put them she felt someone whispering the directions to the dolls destination. Fumi successfully put away 3 dolls. But as she was walking towards the final location, she felt the invisible thing. So she hid under the nearest tree trunk. She waited till she didn’t sense the invisible thing. After a few minutes she felt safe but was too scared to get out. Within this small moment of peace she thought about the mountains. Looked out towards the village. “What am I doing here?” She finally got out of the safety of the tree. But she felt the dark presence again. So she finally took out the radio. And a static sound can be heard right after

Nobara is not scared of heights. But she was shacking in Gojo’s arm, floating over the mountain. Gojo could feel that she was scared but had a feeling it was not because of fear of heights or fear of curse. Tho he didn’t comment on it or asked about it. Instead he asked, “So why are we here?”
Nobara didn’t say anything. It looked like she was looking down searching for something. “Put me down on the ground”
Gojo complied. But as soon as Nobara started to run Gojo kept a hold of her shoulder so she wouldn’t get away. “Woah…where are you running off to? I thought we agreed once I get you here you would tell me everything. It’s not nice to break promises.”
“ I didn’t promise you anything. Now let me go.” Nobara struggle frantically.
Gojo sighed. He now crouch down at eye level with Nobara. “Look, now you are just wasting time. The sooner you tell me what’s going on the quicker we can solve whatever is going on here.”
Nobara seemed to understand that she can’t escape. “Fine! I will tell you. The special curse I talked about is harming the village people. They might be dead now because I was too late to do something about the curse.” At this point Nobara was crying out of frustration.
Gojo felt that irritating pain in his chest again but choose to ignore it. “What is this special curse and why is it your responsibility?”
“Like I said before, Kugisaki family has been tied to this curse for as long as the curse existed. I don’t know much about the past history but our technique allows us to be connected with the curse.”
Gojo was intrigued. “Connected how?”
“Our technique is called resonance. We can deliver our curse energy directly through one’s souls as long as we have contact with any part of them.”
“So that’s how you were able to get through my barrier. You still haven’t told me how you are connected with the curse.” Gojo can tell Nobara was distracted but he can solve whatever is going on without clues.
“I don’t know how but I think one of the Kugisaki’s ancestors was responsible for creating the curse. Because of it, our blood has always been tied to the curse. We can use our resonance to kill the curse easily, but in process we would die with it.”
“Then why didn’t one your brave ancestors sacrifice themselves to kill the curse?” Gojo wasn’t sensitive at all in saying that. Which seemed to hit something in Nobara. She wasn’t angry but she seemed to be guilty.
“Because…because we only have one curse user in the family. When a new curse user is born with our power the old one loses all of their power. So if one of our ancestors would have sacrificed themselves, the Kugisaki curse technique would die with them. Call us selfish but Kugisaki’s couldn’t risk this.”
The reality of the situation hit Gojo now that he is aware of new info. This didn’t sit well with him. “That’s what you meant by you being cursed to die.” Gojos tone was grim.
“Yes. The Curse knew we we could kill it at anytime so it hung around in the mountains without harming the village people. But…” Nobara seemed more guilty.
“But what?” Gojo asked softly.
“But I am the new resonance holder now. For some reason my curse energy isn’t enough to kill the curse. And it figured it out. So…so it took the opportunity to finally harm humans. And I am unable to do anything.” Nobara was frustrated. Her knuckles were turning white by gripping her t-shirt.
Gojo felt angry. Not because of Nobara but at the people who put this child into this position. Gojo can’t help but see younger him in her. Maybe that’s why he felt sympathy for her. He gently grabbed her hand to ease the tension. “Well, you are in luck cuz I am the strongest and I can kill any curse with ease”
Nobara looked disgusted for a second seeing his smugness, which quickly turned to sadness. “If you do that then I…”
“Then you…” Gojo asked confused.
Nobara was silent for a moment until she took a deep breath. “Then I wouldn’t get the spotlight. I do have pride as a sorcerer you know.”
At that Gojo laughed out loud. “You are crazy. And I like that.”
“Stop laughing. It’s serious to me. How did you even know there was a curse here?” Nobara said with a frown.
Gojo managed to stop laughing. “At first I thought you sent out the signal. But now talking to you it seems you weren’t the one. So someone else sent it. Do you have an idea on who ?”
Nobara thought for a moment. “Then it must be my grandmother or Fumi! They both have a radio to call for help. Didn’t realize you were our emergency contact.”
“I guess it good to be of service! Do you know where they are now?”
“Fumi was at the village last time I saw her and my grandmother was in the mountains searching for the curse. But now I don’t know where they are… We have to go find them!” Nobara was panicking she thought of the worst that could happen to the only two people she cared about.
Gojo understood her fear and concern. “Sure. But the curse is on the loose still. We should find it first then look for them.”
“No! Let’s split up. You find the curse and I find my grandma and Fumi.” Nobara seemed adamant on that.
But Gojo don’t like that idea. “And let a brat wonder around alone. I don’t think so.”
“I know this mountain and the curse better than you. I’m can handle this. Just let me look for them…please” Nobara pleaded.
Gojo knew although a child, she was trained for this. But the thought of her going alone and something happening to her didn’t sit well with him. Tho he knew the brat was crazy enough to do something reckless if he didn’t agree. “Fiiine. But take this with you. Contact me if you are in trouble.” Gojo handed her small button.”
Nobara was shocked to see him concerned yet again. “How am I going to contact you through this?”
“Just pressed the button and it notify me it’s location to my phone.”
“Ok then I will be going.” Before Nobara can leave Gojo grabbed her arms and said,
“Don’t die” Gojo said it with such intensity that he himself was shocked that he cared this much. Nobara looked at him confused. She never had anyone other than her grandmother care so much about her. Non the less she was embarrassed, “quite worrying like my grandmother.” Nobara said pulling away from Gojo’s firm grip.
“You call me old again. I will have to teach you a lesson about respect when this is all over.” Gojo shouted playfully as Nobara disappears from his view.
Notes:
Sorry for the late update. For some reason this chapter was hard to write. But I hope it made sense. To be honest resonance doesn’t work like I described but for the sake of the story I modified the power Nobara has. It will be explored more in future chapters.
Chapter 6: Deal
Notes:
Quick chapter before things get serious. Enjoy!
Chapter Text
The rain was unforgiving. Without Gojo’s barrier, Nobara was drenched. But she didn’t feel anything. The only thing she was focused on was finding her grandmother and Fumi. She hoped Fumi wasn’t in the village when the curse showed up. She was the only friend she has ever known and she would be devastated if she loses her.
Before separating from her grandmother, they had a plan. Even though her grandmother didn’t posses the curse technique anymore, she could still help. So Nobara headed straight for the doll her grandmother said she would leave in the mountains. Her grandma must be near them. Or she hoped so. What felt odd that she hadn’t encounter the curse yet. If the village people were gone the curse should be looking for her now. Maybe Gojo’s intervention put a stop to whatever the curse was planning on doing. In any case, now was the only chance she had to find her grandmother and Fumi.
She finally reached the first doll. But she didn’t sense the presence of her grandmother. She was hoping to find her here but she has four more dolls to find. To her frustration her grandmother was not around the second and third dolls location. As time passes her risk of getting caught by the curse increases. As she picks up the fourth doll she notices blood on the doll. Tho a child she knows what this means her grandmother was hurt or worse, killed.
If it weren’t for the grueling training and lessons from her grandmother, Nobara would’ve broken down. She tried to keep calm as best she could. She looked around to see anymore blood that could lead her to her grandmother. Lucky or unlucky she found blood trails leading to a tree bark. Taking a deep breath, Nobara walked towards the bark slowly. When she got close to the bark, she was horrified. She wanted to scream but no sound was coming out of her. Underneath the bark lay her grandmother. There was a big hole where her heart should be. Besides the life ending wound, their was several cuts and bruises on her body. Nobara couldn’t believe what she’s seeing now. Once strong and woman of steel she has come to love and fear, now lay lifeless and utterly defeated.
Nobara crouched down where her late grandmother lay. She reach out her hand to close her eyes. As she finally closed the terrified eyes of her grandmother, Nobara let out a silent cry. She wanted to scream so badly. But her grandmothers training prevented her.
“There are no room for emotions for sorcerers. Once a sorcerer succumbs to their emotions, they might as well kill themselves.” Is what her grandmother always said. So to honor her grandmother, Nobara tried to keep he emotions in check. But her tears wouldn’t stop flowing.
“Don’t worry grandma it’s just the rain. I am not crying.” Nobara tried to smile. “It won’t be long grandma. I promise everything will be over soon.” With one last prayer Nobara got up and headed to the fifth doll.
——————————————————————
Nobara got to the location of the fifth doll fast. She wanted to kill the curse as soon as possible. But there was no fifth doll in sight. Maybe her grandmother was killed before placing the fifth doll. But then her grandmother’s body would have the fifth doll too. She had to find the last doll. So she took out a nail from her pocket. As she was about to pierce her arm with the nail a dark voice spoke up. “No need to harm your delicate skin child. I have your doll.”
Nobara immediately jumped up to take a few steps back from the voice. As Nobara steadied she looked up to see the curse which filled her with not fear but rage. The curse was tall with a lanky body. It has no eyes but has a mouth with sharp teeth. The curse was leaning forward with a creep smirk and dangling the straw doll with its long nails.
“You finally decided to show yourself” Nobara gritted her teeth. Nails were shaking in her hand. She hopped the curse didn’t notice because it would definitely take that as sign of fear.
“I should say you finally decided to show up. I have been looking for you.” The curse mocked. “Let’s put our differences aside and work together. We both know we are dependent on each other.”
“After what you did to my grandmother and the village, I don’t think so.” With this Nobara quickly pieces nails into her arms. Both parties felt a surge of cursed energy surging through their souls. The arms of the cursed holding the dolls fell to the ground as it got twisted. Nobara took the moment of shock to snatch the doll from the ground quickly. As soon as Nobara got the fifth doll she pierced her arm with another nail. This time the curse stumbled from the shock. As soon as soon as Nobara was trying run away from the curse, the curse laughed momentarily, halting Nobara.
“You have enough power to shook me to my core but not enough to kill me even if you die in the process. I really am curious as to why. That’s why I can’t let you go.” Nobara wasn’t going to stay so she started running again. But the curse spoke again “I would advise not running if you want to save her.” At this Nobara halted. She prayed it’s not what she thought it was. As soon as she turned around Nobara’s expression turned dark. In front of her, the curses filthy hand holds her only friend in the world, Fumi.
The curse kept smiling menacingly as his hold around Fumi’s throat tightened slightly. Holding her dolls tightly Nobara desperately tried to find a way to save Fumi. “Let her go.”
“Oh. So we are on talking terms now. It’s a shame that your friend had to get involved in this. But you have no one to blame but yourself.” The curse laughed menacingly again.
Nobara had enough. “I SAID LET HER GO!” Nobara tried to pierce her arm again but the curse spoke, “if you try to use that technique I will snap her neck”
Nobara stopped midway through the release of her technique. Nobara took a deep breath and put the nail in her pocket. “What do you want?”
“I want what any other curse want. That is to feed on human souls. But thanks to your family I haven’t been able to do that. I have been hungry for so long that feasting on the villagers wasn’t nearly enough. But I will have other opportunities for this, that is if we cooperate with each other.”
“Cooperate how?” Nobara’s hands are still in her pocket.
The curse leaned forward towards Nobara again “Although your curse energy isn’t enough to kill me, your tie to me still can be problematic for me. So, we make a binding vow that you will never try to exorcise me.”
“I don’t see how this will benefit me.” The curse laughed. “I see you are a bad friend already forgetting that your friends life is one the line.” The curse was right, she was a bad friend. If she was a good friend she wouldn’t have Fumi mixed up in this.
Nobara laughed menacingly “you are right about that. But we don’t have a deal.” Nobara finally pressed the button in her pocket that she has been holding through the entire conversation.
The curse is shocked “Tho a child I didn’t think you would be this idiotic. Maybe this will try to re-think your decision.” As the curse said that it moved his sharp nails slowly to cut Fumi’s arm. But it never happened as a flash of light cut off the cursed arm. As Fumi fell on the ground. The curse screamed as he looked up to see the culprit.
Gojo just smiled down at the curse and said “We finally meet.”
Chapter 7: Choice
Notes:
A new chapter finally out. This one’s a bit dark but the story is progressing. Enjoy!
Chapter Text
Gojo looked at the curse unimpressed. The curse looked like an ordinary curse. The curse energy he was sensing from it was no more than that of a curse of grade 1. He’s over qualified to exorcise it but at least he had been entertained this far into his investigation. Also what puzzled him is that he is not sensing the curse as a curse.
Gojo dropped down and faced the curse. He was moving around the curse almost as if he was inspecting it. “Hmm… so that’s why I wasn’t able to find you. You don’t feel like a regular curse. Even though face to face you seem like an ordinary curse. Tell me, what are you?”
Before the curse could react Nobara spoke up. “You are late! Hurry up and kill this curse.” Nobara sounded out of breath. Gojo didn’t even realize that Nobara already was close to the curse trying to get her friend as far away from the curse as possible. Of course being a child she could lift so much. Tho Gojo didn’t do anything to help the little girl. He was amused by her desperate attempts.
“Whaaat. I came here as fast as humanly possible. You are so mean that you don’t appreciate that I just saved your friend.” Gojo sounded fake hurt.
Nobara was starting to feel annoyed, “Quit with the fake tears and exorcise the curse already.”
“Yea yea. Sorry to ignore you. As you can see I got interrupted. So what type of curse are you?” Gojo finally seemed serious.
Instead of answering the curse just laughed. “Just because you took my arm out doesn’t mean you can kill me. And what kind of idiotic being would give away information about themselves to the the enemy.”
“You would be surprised how many curses do. I mean, this is your only chance to brag about yourself.
Nobara couldn’t believe her eyes at how normally Gojo was speaking to the curse. After seeing all the torment the curse caused in her life, she couldn’t fathom speaking to the curse so casually. But with them being distracted by one another, gives her the perfect opportunity to leave this area. She was sure Gojo would exorcise the curse after all his curiosity had been satisfied. And she needs to take Fumi somewhere safe before that happens. So she tries to move Fumi however halted as the curse speaks up. “You shouldn’t run Nobara. After all, you would want to experience what happens to me.” The curse reaches for Nobara’s face but its hand never reaches her as it falls to the ground. This time the curse doesn’t react as before, only looks at the culprit.
Gojo is smiling. But there’s something dark about that smile. “You shouldn’t stop entertaining your guests. But most of all you should touch her” Gojo said as his voice got deeper. It was easy to tell that he was pissed.
The curse just just laughed. “You really don’t know what is going on. Tho I don’t blame you. You are an outsider. Look at your precious child.” Confused, Gojo looked towards Nobara. She was crouching on the ground holding her left arm in pain, coincidentally the same arm that got ripped from the curse. Her expression was obvious, she was in pain. Gojo was about to say something when Nobara cut him off. “Don’t listen to it. Nothing is wrong with me. My arm got hit when I tried to lift Fumi. So just hurry up and kill it.”
Gojo thought for a moment until he realized. “Back at the hotel, you said that if anyone with your technique kills this curse they will die along with the curse. I was under the impression that it only holds true if you kill it with your curse technique, not if someone outside of your family kills the curse. Why didn’t you tell me this?”
“You are wrong! I will be killed if I kill the curse. It doesn’t hold true for you. Just kill the curse.” Nobara was frustrated.
“She is lying. Dear Nobara, why won’t you tell the truth? You and I, our lives are connected for life. If you die I die. If I die you die. Doesn’t matter who kills us. Such a harmonious life we live. What was the technique called… Ah something like sympa…” the curse was practically saying this with joy. Until l Nobara shouted.
“Shut up! Just shut up. Gojo please believe me. Just kill the curse. End the cycle of misery on this mountain.” Nobara was pleading with all she had. “Please save Fumi. Save me.”
Gojo was quiet. He was sure that the curse was telling the world the truth. Seeing Nobara pleading like that pained him. He admired the girl’s bravery. But he was a weak man. “What will it be? Will you kill me and kill the girl along with me? Or will you have mercy on this little girl.” Gojo’s blood boiled hearing the curse made a mockery of this situation. If this was a regular curse, this curse would die ten times over already. But the curse was right. He only had two very ugly choices and he had to choose one.
“You know, no curse has annoyed me as you annoyed me. That said no curse has ever lived after annoying me. Consider yourself lucky. You will live another night. I can’t kill you at the expense of Nobara-chan’s life.”
“You..you liar! You said you would take care of the curse. You promised me. You coward, you can’t kill it because of me. Don’t you feel anything for the people it has harmed?” Nobara screamed while crying.
“Nobara-Chan I…” Gojo was cut off again. By Nobara.
“No. I don’t want to hear anything. If I am what stops this curse meet it’s end. I am going to do something about it.” As Nobara said that she pulled out a nail from her pocket and pointed towards her neck. Both Gojo and the curse seemed to understand what was about to happen. Nobara could see the curse running towards her and Gojo disappearing. She was seeing everything in slow motion. In her last breath she said “take care of Fumi” then the nail was pushed to her neck and everything went black.
Chapter 8: The Kugisaki Defect
Notes:
Hey all. Firstly thanks so much those who read, left kudos, and commented. Secondly I am very sorry for the late update. Life has been busy and hectic. But rest assured I will continue the story, as I have a lot of idea’s. This another background chapter. Hopefully I have made it interesting enough to make up for the late update. Enjoy!
Chapter Text
“Listen Nobara. You are a Kugisaki. And as such you need to bear a burden. A burden too grave but can’t escape.” Nobara was half paying attention to her grandmother. She really just wanted to play outside. The mountains would have so many bugs to catch this time of year. But nonetheless, with mild curiosity, she asked “what is the burden?”
“A burden is a responsibility you must fulfill, however a responsibility which harms your way of living.” A stern statement but sadness is evident in her eyes. As a child Nobara did not understand anything but she felt her grandmother was serious so she listened.
“Just by being a sorcerer you have the duty of exercising curses. Which will put your life in danger. This duty of ours will also isolate you from the world. But it’s a job that only we can and we must do. However our duty brings us closer to death than any other sorcerer.” Growing up under the care of her grandmother and curses, talks of death and duty wasn’t uncommon. So she didn’t understand what was special about today's talk.
“You see, one of our ancestors made a grave mistake. As a result the mistake brought a curse upon our family for eternity. Today I am taking you to a curse which is only our responsibility to deal with. It’s a curse bound to our souls.”
“Grandma, I don’t understand. What do you mean it’s bound to our souls? Does it mean we are cursed?” Nobara asked genuinely, terrified of being cursed.
The elder Kugisaki couldn’t help from chuckling. “No, we are not Curses. Us being bound to a curse means that if we die the curse dies. If the curse dies then we die. Our souls are connected and because of it we can control the curse with our curse technique.”
Even at mention of death Nobara was unfazed. “Then why don’t we kill the curse when when it first showed up. I mean yeah someone would had to die but it seems like a good deal to me.” Nobara’s grandmother was shocked at her granddaughter's logical statement. She always thought that there was something odd about her granddaughter. She never acted like a child should. Then again she can only blame herself for raising her as such. She wants Nobara to grow up strong, unlike Nobara’s mother. But sometimes she thinks, Nobara is learning the wrong meanings of strength and fear.
Nobara’s grandmother sighed “we didn’t kill the curse purely of selfish reasons. Like I said if the curse dies we die. Only one person at a time can fully use our curse technique. As such if the Kugisaki with the curse technique dies our clan dies as well.”
“But only our technique gets lost forever. We still live. So I don’t understand why don’t we kill the curse?” In Nobara’s mind having a curse technique isn’t a big deal so to her, the solution to the problem is simple.
“Like I said it’s purely for selfish reasons.”
“Then when I get the full curse power from you I will kill the curse.” Nobara said proudly.
Nobara’s grandmother was shocked yet again . The girl wasn’t normal. “Aren’t you scared of dying?”
Nobara just shrugged “not really. Sounds like taking care of the curse my whole life seems more annoying. Plus the world would be a better place without the curse.”
Nobara’s grandmother laughed. She was so proud of her granddaughter. Yet she felt guilt for raising a child to not fear her own death. “Alright if that is what you want you can end the curse as well as the Kugisaki family. However you can not do that until I die. Even if you gain full control over our curse technique.”
“But why not?” Nobara whined.
“Because who’s going to to take care of me when you are gone?” Her grandmother half joked.
“Guess you are right. Ok! I will wait until you die.” Nobara said with a grin.
——————————————————————
The walk into the mountains was silent but calming to Nobara. She always loved the mountains. Since being isolated from the village, she spends most of her free time exploring the mountains. However this is the first time she came to this part of the mountain. Solely for the reason her grandmother forbade her to come here. She figures it’s because the curse lives here. They finally reached a cave. Just from the entrance Nobara can see the dark curse energy seeping through. There were several talismans stuck to the cave's entrance. Yet the feelings of anxiousness became intense. The cave was very dark and long. Her grandmother was illuminating the pathway only through a candle in hand. She tried convincing her grandmother to take a flashlight but she only shunned her off saying “everything has to be right.” Nobara didn’t know what it meant but she didn’t argue.
After what seemed like way too long off a walk they halted. Her grandmother chants words to break some sort of cursed seal. As soon as the curse seal broke Nobara felt a gust of curse energy hit her. She was about to lose her breath when her grandmother suddenly came in front of her. “You should stop with the pitiful display of curse energy unless you like pain.” The surge of curse of curse energy seems to die off and was replaced with bone chilling laughter.
“Come now I have lived here for centuries. Obeying all your demands. And you couldn’t let me let loose for once?” The voice was deep and dark. Nobara counts the curse yet she can imagine what the curse looks like.
“You should be grateful for just getting to live.” Nobara’s grandmother scoffed.
“You and I both know that me living highly depends upon your and your precious family living. In actuality you should be grateful to me that I tolerate you. By the way, is that my new little master? She looks delicate as a flower. Little girl, do you think you can handle me?”
Nobara's grandmother was about to say something but Nobara beat her to it. “You are very cocky for a cursed who’s trapped. But know this I am Nobara Kugisaki and I will end you!”
The curse laughed again. “You will end me? You think you can do something that no other in you family could? I think you are the cocky one here”
Without being fazed, Nobara replied, “You seem to think that I am like any of my family members. But I am not. You think I can’t kill you? But I can. I just have to kill myself.”
It wasn’t the words that little girl said. But it was the blatant delivery of the words, the absence of fear in those words and the craziness the little girl's manner is what shocked the curse. The curse couldn’t tell if she didn’t fully understand what she was saying or she’s just crazy. Either way the curse wasn’t worried. “If you really mean what you are saying then that would mean you are closer to me than to your family.”
“Enough! I think that’s was enough for an introduction.” Although Nobara’s grandmother was stern in her voice, there was a hint of fear that didn’t go unnoticed by the curse. “You should really watch your tongue”
“Of course, anything for my current master.”
“Nobara Let’s go. I think that’s enough introduction for now.” As Nobara’s grandmother was pulling away the curse spoke up, “you have finally raised a successor like the 1st. Little girl, I will see you at our funeral.”
“Who is the 1st grandma?” Nobara asked when they were out of the cave. The elder Kugisaki thought for a moment. “The 1st is one of our ancestor… who was responsible for this curse.”
“Oooh.” Is all Nobara said.
——————————————————————
Two years have passed and Nobara has been training as a strong sorcerer. Today is the day where Nobara tries to gain full control of the curse. Deep down Nobara was feeling anxious. But Fumi was a good distraction from all the nervousness. During the walk to the cave, Nobara thought about Fumi. Did she understand what was about to happen? Was she confused about her radio? Nobara hoped Fumi kept the radio close.
“So now is your turn to tame me?” The curse’s deep voice brought back Nobara from her thoughts. Nobara smirked, “you should start planning your funeral now.”
Nobara got a nail out. This was a special nail with cursed text which would allow Nobara to bind her soul with the curse’s soul. All she had to do was envelop her curse energy into the nail and pierce herself. Nobara was no stranger to smashing nails into her arm. In fact, in an odd way she has come to enjoy it. However she was hesitating. She didn’t understand why. With a deep breath she pierced her forearm with the nail. She felt a curse energy surging her as never before. Within a few seconds she heard her grandmother grasping. When she looked up she saw the curse still standing a bit out of breath but looked in good shape. This wasn’t supposed to happen as the sign of the process being complete is when the curse gets knocked out. Nobara was very confused.
The curse laughed. It laughed a mocking laugh, a victory laugh. “Finally a Kugisaki defect. You were talking so big. But you don’t have the power to back up your talk.”
Nobara trembled. “Grandma wha…” Nobara didn’t get to finish her sentence as the curse lunged at her. But didn’t reach her as her grandmother through a binding talisman at the curse. Her grandmother quickly pulled Nobara’s hand and started running towards their home. On the way Nobara kept on asking what was happening but grandma remained silent. When they got to the house, she quickly put a barrier around their house.
“Listen Nobara. Your curse energy is not enough to kill the curse. I can’t kill the curse either. But there’s another way.” Nobara’s grandmother explained clammer than expected.
Hearing that her curse technique wasn’t enough was like a punch to her. She was ashamed. But still asked “how?”
Handing her a glass with clear substance her grandmother told her “drink.”
“What is this drink?”
“Just drink Nobara. All will be well” seeing her grandmother frustrated Nobara just drank. The liquid didn’t taste like much but as soon as she drank she felt light headed. She was passing out. As she was passing out he heard her grandmother faintly saying “don’t worry Nobara everything will be alright. And I am sorry.”
Soon after everything around her was dark.
Chapter 9: Hoping For Answers
Notes:
Another shot chapter. I promise all the answers and fluff is coming. I think this background work is necessary.
I know my updates has been spreed out but I will post the next chapter as soon as I can. In the meantime thanks everyone for reading and enjoy!
Chapter Text
Gojo likes to think everyone in the jujutsu community is crazy. Of course it takes a special kind of crazy to constantly put your life in danger to face supernatural creatures. He likes to think that being in this line of work he’s seen everything. And for the most part he has been desensitized to it all. Then it really shouldn’t surprise him when a little girl shoved a nail through her own neck. From the first moment he met her he knew this girl was crazy. But for some reason he didn’t expect this. Even more so that he didn’t expect seeing the lively girls attempt at taking her life to affect him this much. When he realized what was happening, his whole body tensed up like never before and all he wanted was to reach Nobara before she killed herself. There’s only a handful of times Gojo had felt helpless. Now this once has been added to those times. He was too late. The nail was already shoved in her neck. He wished his teleportation was faster. He wished he was closer to her. He felt the surge of regret hit him all at once. And now he was sitting in a plastic chair with his only company being the steady beeping of the heart monitor. When he got close enough to Nobara he instantly teleported her to Shokos lab. Shoko was surprised but probably seeing his appearance she didn’t ask anything. Luckily Shokos reverse curse technique was able to keep Nobara alive. But she is still not out of danger.
It’s been a few hours and Gojo hasn’t moved from his spot beside Nobara’s bed. Normally he would leave any injured to the care of Shokos capable hands. However the thought of leaving her without seeing her wake up disturbed him. He doesn’t know what makes him attached to this girl. Was it because he saw himself in her? Or was it because he was simply curious? Either way he hoped the girl would wake up soon. He heard the door open and he knew it was Shoko. “Still here?” Gojo didn’t feel the need to answer. “It’s surprising to see you watching over a patient for this long. Usually you leave as quick as you come.”
“You should be happy that I am keeping you company.” Gojo smirked.
“On the contrary, your presence is annoying.” Shoko walked over to check Nobara’s vitals.
“Come on, no need to lie. My presence always brings joy.” Gojo finally looked up to where Shoko was standing.
“Keep telling yourself that. Why are you still here? Don’t tell me you got attached to some random kid?”
Gojo chuckled at her question, “nothing like that. This case… is interesting.”
Shoko raised an eyebrow, “oh. How so?”
Gojo thought for a moment. But soon he told Shoko everything that happened during the mission. Shoko was shocked but kept cool. “Hmm…a curse bound to a clan, never heard of such a case, much less the name of the Kugisaki clan. Their curse technique sounds unique, especially if this kid was able to break through infinity.”
“Exactly!” Gojo was a little too excited to agree.
“So you just left the curse there and her friend?”
“Yea. The curse took a big hit. I doubt it will be able to move any time soon. As for the girl she seemed to be just unconscious and with the curse out she should be safe.” Gojo said as a matter of fact.
Shoko sighed, massaging her forehead. “And here I thought you gained sympathy. You should go back to take care of the curse and the girl.”
Annoyed with his character judgment he said “Huh? I already told you there’s no need to.”
“Are you half asleep? You left a little girl out in the rain, hurt. Also with a deadly curse that you cannot kill. Of Course you need to go back. Plus you might want look around Kugisaki house for clues on the curse.”
Gojo just let out an annoyed sigh. “Fine! I will go.” As Gojo was getting up he looked at Nobara for a moment.
Shoko found Gojo’s worry amusing. He definitely was getting attached to this girl. “Don’t worry about her. She’s in good hands.”
“Don’t report any of this or about her to the higher-ups. Let’s keep all of this under for now.” Gojo said with seriousness.
“You think the higher-ups might take advantage of her?”
“I don’t think they will. I know they will.” With these final words, Gojo disappeared.
——————————————————————
Ijichi was having pleasant dreams about a certain doctor with bags under her eyes until he woke up to a nightmare. As he opened his eyes he came face to face with the person who cause most of his nightmares.
Satoru Gojo stood in front with an evil smirk. “Having pleasant dreams?” Although the tone of the question was light, Ijichi knew Gojo couldn’t care less about his answer.
“Gojo what are you doing here?” Ijichi tried to keep calm as much as possible.
“Get ready in 5. We are going to the site of my recent assignment.” Gojo left no room for argument.
Ijichi just got up from his bed and got ready as quickly as possible. He knew he would have hell to pay if he was late. He was used to Gojo just showing up out of the blue seeking help with his assignments. Usually when it happens he’s on cover up duty and/or secret investigation duty. He can’t decide if he’s relieved that Gojo trusts him enough in these circumstances or scared because of all the risk he takes. “I am ready” is all Ijichi said when he was teleported from a warm room to a cold muddy land.
——————————————————————
Gojo quickly explained the situation and events as they walked through the mountains. Ijichi had several questions but he had a feeling he would be one to answer them. Gojo was right, the curse was still unconscious. “One of the curse binding room should be free in Jujutsu high. You can put the curse there for the time being.” Ijichi said as he watched Gojo using a seal on the curse to bind it.
“Can I count on your secrecy in this matter?”
“Of course” Ijichi would be dead if he didn’t comply.
“Great! Here's the plan: I take this curse to Jujutsu high and you take the girl and head for the Kugisaki house. Make sure she’s still doing fine until I come back. First order of business then would be to find a home for this girl and cover up what happened to the village. Then find out as much as you can about the Kugisaki clan.”
This sounds a lot of work but as a sorcerer’s assistant this amount of workload is normal. “I will see to those tasks. What about the curse and the Kugisaki girl?”
“I will take care of them.” With that Gojo disappeared again. With Gojo gone Ijichi let out a big sigh of relief. Then he moved towards the girl named Fumi. He felt bad for the girl. Tonight was a tragedy for her.
——————————————————————
Ijichi didn't expect the Kugisaki household to be this messy inside. Whoever was the last person inside the house they were definitely searching for something. After laying Fumi down on the couch with a blanket, Ijichi got to work. He knew Gojo didn't explicitly say to look around the Kugisaki household but it was implied through his task of coming to this house. Ijichi first just walked around the house. The house was not big. The 1st floor only held a living space, a kitchen space, and a hallway leading upstairs. Upstairs only had two bedrooms and a bathroom. Overall the house looked normal. However, there was not a lot of decoration or any pictures around the house. Ijichi had a feeling that it was done on purpose. Most sorcerers do this in order to hide their true identity from the world. Under normal circumstances, finding clues about the sorcerer living here would be hard, but lucky for him that the house was already a mess. The first thing that caught his attention was a box in the living room. The box was sitting on the coffee table such that it was meant to be noticed. When Ijichi looked inside the box he could see there were several old diaries inside. Although two of the diaries looked new. As he was about to pick up one of the books Gojo showed up.
"Who would have thought sneaking in a curse would be hard." Gojo said that playfully but Ijichi knew Gojo was very annoyed. "So what did you find?"
"I only just looked around. However, so far no notable clues other than these diaries. I haven't read through them but I suspect the owner wanted someone to read through them." Gojo didn't say anything in response he only looked around until he spoke up, "Alright, you have done good work I will teleport you and the girl to Shoko's from there on I believe you know what to do next?"
Ijichi was a bit taken aback by Gojo's compliment but he tried not to show it. "Yes"
"Great! off you go" with that Ijichi and Fumi disappeared from the room.
Before starting to read the diaries, Gojo walked around the house. As Ijichi said the house seemed normal other than the disarray inside. The 1st floor, as expected, didn't contain anything noteworthy other than the box of diaries.
So he went upstairs. He could easily tell which rooms belonged to whom in the household. He decided to go inside Nobara's room first. Nobara's room was the most decorated out of all the rooms in this house. Gojo was amused to see the contrast in the room. On one hand, he could see the room decorated in pastel colors implying Nobara was into pretty things like any other child. On the other hand, he saw frames containing various bugs hung up on the wall. He suspects Nobara herself collected all those bugs. Gojo smiled at the thought that Nobara's room definitely matches her personality. He sensed some residual curse energy coming from underneath the bed. Upon looking underneath the bed he saw stacks of straws, and deformed straw dolls like the ones he had seen Nobara carrying. There was also a box besides all the straw which contained a lot of nails as well as a hammer. Gojo wasn't surprised to see such objects in her room. He suspects these are the medium to use her curse techniques since he can feel the residual curse from the nails. He flipped through the books and notepad laying on the desk but didn't find anything of value. The only thing he deduced from those was that Nobara was most likely homeschooled. He was hoping there would be some text on her curse techniques. With nothing more to look at he moved on to Nobara's grandmother's room. From the looks of the room, Gojo suspects that Nobaras grandmother might have been old fashioned. Although most elderly in this line of work tend to be old fashioned. A tradition he hoped to break when he becomes old. He immediately noticed the similar dolls, nails and hammer laid on the floor. This confirms that Nobara’s technique is generationals. There was nothing of noteworthy in this room either. Tho he wasn't expecting much. He did wonder about where Nobaras grandmother could be. Nobara said she was somewhere in the mountains. When Nobara came from the search she looked shaken. He suspects her grandmother might already be dead. He thought it was a shame since She was a major key in solving this case. WIthout wasting much time, he headed for the diaries downstairs. He hoped that the diaries contained all the answers. Tho that might be too optimistic

It’s been a long time! All I can say is sorry for the delay. Hope you enjoy this chapter.
Chapter Text
It was too bright when Nobara’s eyes opened. “So you are finally awake?” Nobara couldn see the source of the voice yet. She tried getting up and turning towards the voice until she felt a pain through her neck. The pain was a cruel reminder to her that she stabbed herself in the neck. But she didn’t die. Why not?
“I know you are confused but bare with me.” Nobara slowly turned towards the voice and saw a woman with long brown hair and bags under her eyes. She seemed to be busy with some monitors besides her bed.
“Uh…I..ugh..” Nobara tried to speak but it was too painful.
“Don’t try to speak. Your vocal cords barely survive. So unless you want to lose your voice, try not to put pressure in your throat.” Nobara wasn’t surprised. But there’s so many questions in her mind. How’s she alive? What happened to the curse? What happened to Fumi?
Sensing Nobara’s distress state, Shoko spoke up, “I know you have a lot of questions right now. I don’t know much about the situation but I can tell everything is being taken care of. You can ask for the details when Gojo gets back. Until then rest. You have been through hell tonight you deserve it.”
Nobara just looked at Shoko intensely, conveying she wasn’t convinced. At this Shoko sighed. “Look kid, I really don’t know much. All I know is the curse is being secured now and your friend is in a safe place. Gojo will be back soon. You should rest till then. You almost died. You are not out of danger yet, so let your body heal.” As soon as shoko said that her phone buzzed. “I have to take this call. I will be back soon.”
Nobara was alone in the room. Her thoughts were running wild. She wasn’t sure if she can trust this woman. But she mentioned Gojo so maybe she is telling truth? So many things are running through her mind that it’s hard to keep up. But one thing is clear. She was anxious. She didn’t know when Gojo would show up, if ever. Nobara tested turning her neck slowly. It seems she healed well considering she was supposed to die. She sensed a foreign curse technique through her body. It could be because of Shoko using reverse curses technique. Nobara only read of the effects of it. But she never thought it was this useful. Nobara thought about just unplugging from all the equipment and wondering until she either finds the curse or Fumi. But if she was being honest with herself, she was scared. She was in an unfamiliar place barely alive with a possible powerful sorcerer and maybe more. She was ready to die of her own term but not by someone else’s. As she was pondering about her situation, she heard the doctor's voice along with a deep male voice.
——————————————————————
“Elder! What are you doing here?” Shoko sounded surprised.
Clearing his throat the elder spoke “just here for a routine check up. Being old isn’t favorable. You seemed to be doing overtime again?”
With a dry chuckle Shoko responded “ yea a jujutsu doctor never rest. Have a good night.”
As Shoko was about to walk away the elder spoke “who’s the lucky patient you got in there?” The elder was pointing at the room Nobara was in.
Shoko had to be careful about her answer. She doesn’t know what interest elder had on this child but when elders are involved, nothing good ever comes out. “Just a jujutsu sorcerer. She got injured when exorcising a curse.” It wasn’t a total lie.
“Ahh such as the cruel life of a jujutsu sorcerer. I would like to pay my respects to the brave soul.” The elder spoke with a slight smirk.
“Unfortunately visitors are not allowed now. But I will pass along your respect.” Shoko said coolly.
The elder looked at Nobara’s room a bit longer and smiled “unfortunate but I understand. Maybe I will come by tomorrow during visiting hours.” With that elder walked away.
Shoko sighed. “You better treat me to some nice booze Gojo for dealing with these shit.”
—————————————————————-
The next morning, Shoko was rudely awakened by the ever cheery voice of Gojo. Shoko doesn't get much sleep after the encounter with the elder. So she did a last check on Nobara and went to rest her eyes in her office chair. She might have slept in her office chair more than her bed but she’s not complaining. In this chair she had a lot of rude awakening but nothing compares to hearing Gojo’s cheery voice 1st think in the morning.
“Hey! Sleeping on the job I see.” Gojo said rudely.
Getting up to stretch she said “shut up it’s not even my shift yet. Where have you disappeared to?”
Seeing her side eye, “trust me I wasn’t slacking like you think I was. I was busy reading the Kugisaki history.”
“Oh so you found what happened?” Shoko still stretching.
“Yes and no. Nobara’s story checks out as far as how the curse is linked to the Kugisaki’s. I also found out why Nobara wasn’t able to excorsise the curse. But I am still at a loss for how to kill the curse.” One would think Gojo wasn’t serious about the issue with his playful manner of speaking. But Shoko knew that Gojo was enamored. As the strongest, it isn’t often Gojo has a challenge with something. So he gets excited when something does challenge him. Not being able to figure out all the pieces of this problem is making Gojo’s day.
With a sigh Shoko spoke “hate to put a damper on your good mood but the elder has his sights on your golden child.”
Shoko could see the instant change in Gojo’s mood. It’s honestly amazing how even the mention of an elder make his face go sour. “Tell me the details”
“There’s not much to tell. As he was passing by Nobara’s room, he took an unusual interest in seeing who was in that room. Tho he wasn’t pushy I could tell he wanted to go in there. I am not sure how he knew she was in there or if he knew.” The puzzling part to this whole encounter was, somehow the elder knew someone important was in the room. But who could tipped him off?
Gojo was in deep thought for a moment. “I am not sure how they knew but I am certainly not going to have their noses where it doesn’t belong. We need to move Nobara. Can you do that?”
“No need for me to do it you can do that. She woke up a few hours after you left. Plus her wound is almost completely healed.” Shoko said as a matter of fact.
Shoko was taken aback by the look of relief and disbelief on Gojo’s face. “You tell me this now?!” Is the last thing Gojo yelled as he disappeared. Shoko didn’t even get to say that it’s not visiting hours. But she let it slide just this once.
——————————————————————
Gojo half expected Nobara to stand in front of him with her hammer and nail in hand. But what he actually saw was a sleeping child finally finding rest after a tragic night. Letting out a chuckle, Gojo simply sat down on the chair near her bed.
“You finally wake up just to go back to sleep. How disappointing.” Contrary to his words, Gojo wasn’t disappointed at all but he was relieved. An emotion he seldom felt. He really liked this feeling. “You can’t believe what I found. So wake up soon to get the big shock of your life.”
As if hearing him, Nobara opened her eyes. It took her a minute to get used to her surroundings but when she did she had a look of disbelief. Seeing the look of disbelief Gojo said playfully “I know. You don’t have to be scared anymore. The strongest here to make your problems go away.”
Nobara really had the urge of shoving her nails into that smug face. How dare he leave her all alone into this unknown place with no information and shows up suddenly as if all is well. She is mad about so many things but for now she’s at least relieved to see a familiar face. “Y…yo…u…” Nobara tried to speak but unsurprisingly she couldn’t.
“You don’t have to say how relieved you are. I already know.” Gojo said smugly.
At this Nobara just threw the apple on the side table at Gojo. Gojo caught the apple with ease. “You really need to stop throwing food. Such a violent girl.” Seeing her eyes throwing daggers at him he finally gave up. “Ok ok. No need to kill me with your eyes. I know you have questions. But before I answer, we need to get you out of the hospital.”
At this, Nobara just threw a questioning gaze towards Gojo. “I will answer that when we are out. Shoko just needs to see you one more time before we go out.”
As of que, Shoko walks into the room. “Good morning Nobara. How are you feeling?”
With no way of answering Nobara just nods. “Good. I just need to check how you are healing then you will be good to go.” With that Shoko started taking vitals and opening her bandages. The checkup was quicker than expected.
“Looks like your healing is on a good track. I will give Gojo details on the medication you should take. Try to talk but slowly. Don’t force or put strain on your vocal cords. Got it?” Understanding the instructions Nobara nods again.
“Good. Gojo I have already texted you about her condition along with instructions on how to take care of her. Actually read it. I know you suffer from short term memory loss.” Gojo grasped at her accusations.
“I don’t! But thanks. Oh and her being here…” Gojo said, getting off his chair.
“She was never here. Everything is off the record. You owe me one by the way.” Shoko said, cutting him off.
“Of course. I will be sure to bring you the finest whiskey next time!” With that Gojo just teleported himself and Nobara.
Chapter 11: I don’t Deserve to Cry
Notes:
Early update this time. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter Text
Nobara shouldn’t be surprised. If his expensive looking clothes and hotel is anything to go by, Nobara really shouldn’t be surprised. But blame it on her country lifestyle, she couldn’t be anything but amazed at the room Gojo teleported them to. The room was dimly lit to make the atmosphere of the room soft. Nobara can see expensive looking tiles and decorations all around the room. The room also had a big soft looking couch along with the largest TV Nobara has ever seen. But what caught Nobara’s eye was the big window on the side, which gave a full view of the city. Nobara always wanted to go to the city. Honestly, this view is her dream come true. But she couldn’t feel excited or happy because of the circumstances that led to this view. She would rather never get to see the city if it meant the tragedy of yesterday never occurred.
As if sensing Nobara’s sad thoughts, Gojo tried to break the tension, “I see your are impressed by my apartment. Soak in the view as much as you like. I feel bad for you country folks to not get to see this.”
Nobara has lost count of how many times now she wants to punch this idiot with ridiculous laughter. But she knew her energy would be wasted by attempting to do so. So she just opted for giving him the stink eye. “Fine! Fine! stop giving me the stink eye. Honestly never knew a ten year old could even make that face. You worry about me getting fat? You should worry that your face will have a permanent stink eye with how frequently you do that.” Hearing Gojo, Nobara just simply walked towards the fruit basket on the counter and started throwing the apples. Gojo of course easily caught those.
“Seriously, stop throwing food. I promise I will get serious.” Satisfied with his promise Nobara stopped.
“Now we have a lot to discuss. But not being able to talk might be a problem. So I think it would be a good idea to have you write whatever you need to say.” With that Gojo handed Nobara a pen and a notepad.
With a little shaky voice Nobara spoke, “No need I think my voice is coming back.”
“Oh? That’s great! Reading conversation was gonna be a hassle. Go sit on the couch while I bring something.” Without any complaints Nobara sat on the couch. The couch was as comfortable as it looked. Tho with the neck pain she couldn’t sit as comfortably as she wanted to.
It took only about a minute until Gojo returned with a box in hand. He placed the box on the table with ease and sat down on the side couch next to Nobara. “I know you are probably worried about your friend. But she is safe. One of my assistant is taking care of her at the moment.” Nobara's face finally showed a bit of happiness hearing the good news.
“That’s good! When can I meet her?” Nobara said excitedly.
Initially Gojo let out a small smile seeing her reaction but it soon fell as he heard her follow up question. “You can’t see her.”
With confusion Nobara asked “why not?”
Leaning forward a bit Gojo replied, “you see she’s a civilian who got involved and in a situation she shouldn’t have. So we are erasing her memory of the entire incident to both protect her and us. This includes erasing her memory of you.”
“I see” Nobara said, clenching her fist. Her only connection to her old life is also taken away from her. “This is probably for the best. So where’s she going to stay?”
Gojo felt sad. All things this girl has ever known is being taken away from her. He only hopes hearing about her friend's safety would ease her. “When the memory wipe is complete, she will be handed over to her relatives. The disappearance of the villagers is being covered up as we speak. So by the time your friend gets to her relatives, this incident will be nothing but a case of natural disaster.”
Nobara let out a dry chuckle “aren’t curses technically natural disasters?”
“Yes. The worst form.” Gojo said solemnly.
There was a moment of silence until Nobara spoke again. “So all the villagers are really dead? And it’s all because I failed” Nobara tried not to cry. She doesn't get to cry. Not while she should have stopped it from happening. Not while she failed her promise. Not while her friend is now homeless. No, she doesn’t get to cry.
Gojo knew what was going through her head. These thoughts haunt him too. But he knew these thoughts are always going to be a part of a sorcerer’s life. Without a word, Gojo got up and hugged Nobara. Gojo didn’t know if he’s giving comfort. But he always wanted someone to do that for him when he was younger.
Nobara tried to push him away. “What are you doing? get off me!” Gojo didn’t budge. “I said get of…”
“Cry” Gojo said firmly.
It made Nobara’s struggle halt. “What are you talking about?” Nobara said in a shaky voice.
Gojo is still firm, “I said cry.”
Her voice getting shakier, “I have no reason to cry”
“Cry because you lost your grandma. Cry because you lost your friend. Cry because you lost the life you have known. Cry because you have failed.” This broke Nobara. She started crying hysterically in Gojo’s chest.
“Shut up. I don’t deserve to cry!” This made Gojo feel sharp pain in his chest. All these emotions from the girl feels too close to home.
“Yes you deserve to cry. This is the only way us sorcerers can cope with our shortcomings. So cry. Let it all out.” Gojo won’t let the same thing happen to this girl as him.
With the sound of Nobara’s crying and her shirt getting wet from her tears, Gojo vowed to himself that he will protect this girl no matter what. And teach her to a be better sorcerer than himself.
——————————————————————
They didn’t know how long they had been like this. But this was the longest Nobara has cried. And this was the longest Gojo has hugged someone. It was new for Gojo to comfort someone, and now it felt awkward. But at the same time he felt good. He doesn’t (does) really care when everyone sees him as a heartless monster. But it felt good knowing he can comfort someone.
When he heard the sniffles died down he spoke, “alright, alright, I know it’s a lifetime opportunity for someone to get hugged by me but you already have a lifetime of hug from me”
As soon as he spoke those words he felt being pushed from the girl. And comically so his back hit the ground. “That’s rude! To think you would be nicer to me after all the snoots you’ve smeared on my shirt”
“Oh shut up. You are the one spewing cheesy crap like you deserve to cry” Nobara huffed.
“Come on. That was totally a heroic thing to say.” Gojo didn’t felt an ounce of embarrassment with what he said.
“I’m in your dreams old man” Nobara smirked.
“You really are a brat. But let’s continue with our talk.” The light atmosphere disappeared as quickly as it came. Nobara stiffened once again but less than before.
“I have locked away your unique curse in one of the binder rooms at Jujutsu High.” Gojo now sat in his old seat.
Rage was building up in Nobara just by hearing about the curse. “What if it gets out?”
“It won’t. Binding rooms are specially made for curses who can’t be killed.” Nobara flinched at the word can’t. This whole mess started because she can’t kill the curse.
“You can kill the curse… you said you are the strongest right?” Nobara said solemnly.
“Yes. But I can’t kill you.” Gojo was serious.
“Why not!? It’s will be better for not just for the people who died but also the Kugisaki’s will be free. Don’t you see that this curse is a burden?” All of Nobara’s glare didn’t waver Gojo.
“And it’s a burden you must bare as a Kugisaki, it’s not for me to bare. Besides you possess far too unique of curse technique for me to just let you die.” Gojo said lightly.
Nobara couldn’t say anything. He was right. She can’t let him be responsible for her burdens. That would make her selfish. “So what do I do?”
Hearing that Gojo cheered up. “Excellent question. You just have to get stronger!”
Nobara was not impressed. She was given Gojo the “that’s a stupid answer” look. “Don’t give that look. It’s a perfectly good answer. You see that box over there. It has books and diaries on your family history. As well an explanation as to why you couldn’t kill the curse.”
Nobara was stunned. “Really?”
“Yup. So you just study up those books and find out another way to kill the curse.” Gojo was making the whole process sound easy.
“Is it that easy? What’s the catch?” Nobara asked again in disbelief.
“You sound all shady. But it is. The thing is you have to read those and understand since I am not familiar with your technic. But I will help you train to be a better sorcerer. Cuz the way you are now you can’t beat the curse.” Gojo said lightly.
“And you are just doing this out of the goodness in your heart? I don’t believe it.” Nobara looked at him suspiciously.
Gojo just sighed. “You really are a brat. But you are right. You see I am not lying when I said I am the strongest. I am also what my “boss” would say a rebel. So they want to have any leverage against me to keep me in their control.”
Nobara could sense his anger when he said the the last part. “So how’s that related to me?”
“Have you noticed that there’s an invisible barrier in front of me?” Gojo held out his hand.
Nobara touched his hand and her suspicions were confirmed. “Yea I can never touch you.”
“That’s right. That’s one of my curse technique, infinity. Most curses or sorcerers can’t get through this barrier making my difference almost perfect. But your curse technique doesn’t care about this barrier.” Gojo explained.
Realization hit Nobara. “I see. My technique connects to the soul. So if one of my pins touches your infinity then my attack would still connect to your soul. So that’s why you were surprised in the mountains?”
“Yep. That’s not all. As I was reading about your technique form those books it turns out you technique would work on me from a distance. So if you have a part of me then technically you can throw curse energy from a safe distance.” Gojo said point at Nobara.
“Yea that’s possible. But I still don’t see how I am rea… oh!” Nobara smirked. “You are afraid that that my technique is a threat to you.”
Gojo just laughed. “ hardly since you don’t have much control or power to kill me now. I would have been already dead if that was the case. But you have potential. And I am going to train you to control your technique.”
Nobara was a bit confused.”why would you want to train someone who would harm you?”
With a knowing smile Gojo answered, “because I hate the status quo. Currently the jujutsu world is too traditional and hierarchy based. I am trying to create a new generation of sorcerers that could even kill me. So I will train you and help you kill that curse. In exchange you will help me build a new generation of sorcerers. A win-win situation for you if you ask me. On the other hand I am putting myself on danger”
Nobara laughed. “You know you are crazy. But I like the sound of the idea of killing you. So I am in!”
Gojo pouted “already plotting your sensei’s assassination?”
“You know what every sensei says. Early bird gets the worm.” They both laughed at that.
Chapter 12: I Have become Selfish
Notes:
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay. This chapter kinda talks about the Kugisaki curse technique. The way Nobara’s techniques work in this fic is not similar to the original manga.
Hope you enjoy this chapter!
Chapter Text
Nobara woke to intense sunlight. She tried moving away to get some more sleep but it was like the sun was beaming at her from all direction. Reluctantly she got up to see the source of light. She was speechless on what greeted her, she was looking at the in skyscrapers of Tokyo. Seeing this, everything from the prior night came back. She wanted to fall into dread so badly, but she tried reminding herself that she has to be strong to get her revenge.
Turns out she fell asleep on the couch. That prick did not even bother to wake her up to sleep in a comfortable bed. It was 5:00 am in the morning. It’s too early but she couldn’t fall back to sleep. So she got up from the couch to freshen up and to look for Gojo. She needed to start training as soon as possible.
After coming from the bathroom, she went towards the bedroom, which she assumes to be the master bedroom. She didn’t want to just enter this weird person's room so she knocked. But she heard no answer. She knocked again louder,
“Hey old man! Get up!” Nobara yelled.
But she go no answer. She turned to door knob, to her surprise, the door was open. Reluctantly Nobara went inside the room to see that the room was empty. The room had no sign of life. She also felt cold in the room. For some reason the room made her feel lonely. Not thinking too much of it she just stomed out of the room.
“I can’t believe that jerk just left me alone without telling me anything!” Nobara yelled to herself.
Nobara maybe tough but she’s still a child in an unknown place. Nobara refused to acknowledge it but she was feeling scared and alone. To distract herself, she went into the kitchen to make herself some breakfast. But she was speechless again. The the fridge was practically empty. It only had water. There was nothing to eat other than the fruits on the counter. Not only did the jerk leave her alone, but he left her with no food. What kind of caretaker is he?
Nobara calmed herself down by taking several deep breaths. She calmly grabbed an apple from the fruit basket and went over to the couch again. Once on the couche she notice the box. She remember, Gojo saying it was from her grandmother. Nobara teared up a little at the thought of her grandmother, but she quickly recovered with the resolve of going through the books.
The first thing she saw was a diary. She vaguely remembers her grandmother writing in this journal. So she decided to read the journal first.
August, 2010
Today is the day I explain to Nobara the duty and the shame of the Kugisaki family. Perhaps old age is weakening me, but I don’t want Nobara to know just yet. I want her to stay a child a little longer. Alas, I have to. It's a curse all Kugisaki’s must carry, even the innocent.
August, 2010
The talk went surprisingly well with Nobara. Although I am not pleased in the least. She seemed to be very willing to sacrifice herself in order to kill the curse. Perhaps, it's because she is a child, she does not fully understand what she is talking about. However I don’t sense any ignorance in her words. I should be proud of her but all I feel is regret. I am responsible for raising her the way she is now. Maybe I realized how precious my granddaughter is to me too late. However I will do everything in my power to stop her from sacrificing herself.
August, 2011
I have been going through all the texts regarding the Kugisaki curse techniques. Turns out there's a way to prevent a successor from fully gaining control over their power. I can seal part of my power into straw dolls. Then it's very likely that my sealed power does not transfer to Nobara. Tomorrow I will practice this technique.

Today was a dreaded day. My techniques did not fully transfer to Nobara. I am certain its occur becasue of the staw doll technique. I should not be relived. Because now the curse has power. Neither Nobara nor I have full control over the curse. Seeing Nobaras distraught face as well well the curses delight, I realize I have made a grave mistake. I can only pray that the curse does not realize the power it gained. But I have horrible feeling that it does.

Nobara, if you are reading this I may already be dead. I know how lost you must be now. I want you to know that everything that has happened is not your fault, all of it is my fault. I have become selfish. I wanted you to live a long and happy life. I wanted you to stay as far away as possible from the life me and your mother has lived. However, that wish has only made things worse for you.
You must find the five straw dolls. These are the straw dolls I have sealed the rest of my powers with. The text on the box will tell you how to transfer the sealed power to you. It may be too late for the village, but you can still stop the curse through gaining full control of your curse technique. However this would mean that if you die, the curse dies and vice versa. I know we are back to the beginning again. But that is the only way I see to stop the curse.
If I can make any request, please do not sacrifice yourself. Because even after all this, I still wish for your long life. I know you are lost, but I know you can do this because you are the strongest child I have ever known.
Remember I am always with you.
Nobara did not realize, when she started crying. But the diary in her hand was getting soaked. So she closed the diary and held it close to her chest. She has never known her grandmother to this emotional. She has never outwardly displayed such emotion to Nobara. But she has always known that her grandmother cared for her. After reading all this, she couldn’t even be mad at her.
“I am sorry grandma, I don't think I can live the normal life you have wanted. I may not even live long. Since I have to get my revenge, even if it kills me.” Nobara said, sobbing.
Even Though Gojo said he would help her find a way to kill the curse without letting her die, she doesn't see how he’s going to do that. She had already made up her mind on killing the curse a long time ago. She will see this through even if that kills her.

Gojo was walking down the hallway. He always hated walking down here. The hallway was dark and dreary. It as if the darkness wants to consume him. But its not the darkness that bothered him. Its whats at the end of the hallway. At the end of the hallway lies the people Gojo despises the the most, the elders. He never once left in a good mood after meeting the elders. Today will certainly be no different. Usually he's called here when there’s an emergency. He wonders what shit show hes about to be presesnted to.
Once he was in front of the sliding door, the door automatically opened. The room was dark with few candles lit behind and in between the six elders. Gojo likes to think, the elders makes to room dark only when someone is entering, to look intemideting. Howere they only look ridiculous when doing so.
Without any ounce of respect Gojo spoke up, “you people seed better days. You know going out in the sun once in a while do wonders for your skin.”
Gojo was never afraid of these people becasue he knew they can never harm him. Even with all the constant disrespect they wanted Gojo on their side. Because having him on their side means having power.
“You are still as disrespectful as ever. But you are not here to mock us. There is a special grade curse on the loose as well as a missing sorcerer. We want you to capture both of them alive.” The elder in the middle spoke.
“Oh? You want me to capture a special grade? Thats a tall order you are giving me.” Gojo spoke with interest.
One of the elders chuckled at that. “The only reason we are asking you to not kill this curse is because killing the curse means killing the sorcerer.”
At this point Gojo knew. They were talking about Nobara and her unusual curse. But Gojo didn’t show he knew what they were talking about. “What do you mean?”
“Have you heard of the Kugisaki clan?” Gojo held his breath when he heard the name. It confirmed his suspicions.
“Never heard of em” Gojo lied.
“They once were part of the three major clans. But their clan fell after a certain member did something they shouldn’t have. After the fall the whole clan distanced themselves from us and went into hiding with the curse. For generations they have kept the curse at bay.” One of the elders explained.
“Why did they keep the curse alive and how was the curse formed?” Even though Gojo knew the answer, he was hoping the elders would know more information.
“The curse was born from forbidden experimentation. You see, the Kugisaki clan poses a unique curse technique. Technique that we don’t know much about or understand. They have always been a clan to keep their techniques a secret. From what we know their curse technique can affect the souls of both humans and curses alike. The special grade was born through pushing their curse technique beyond its limits. Because of it both the curse and the Kugisaki clan are bound via their souls.” Everything the elders said, he already knew. Elders were useless as always.
“The clan sounds interesting. But I don’t understand why you haven’t killed the curse l, even if it kills the clan? The elders I know would order execution with batting an eye. Plus there would be one less clan to oppose your tyranny.” Gojo hoping they would reveal their true motives.
There was a bit of a pause then they answered. “ You are right. We would have executed the curse if it were any other clan. However, the Kugisaki clan's curse technique is very powerful and useful. We can’t afford to lose such power. We got a report that the curse and the current Kugisaki heir are missing. That means we finally have a chance to bring the current heir to our side.” The elder paused for a moment. “Besides a technique that can control the souls can eliminate anything and anyone”
Gojo knows exactly what they are implying. With a strained smirk he said, “I am honestly surprised at the lengths you would go to keep your power and to control me. But let me say this again, you old prunes will be the last of your kind.”
All the elders chuckled in unison, “be sure to keep the curse alive. You are dismissed.”
