Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Harry grumbled as he looked around his room. It was almost the start of the new term and he was nervous about going. He would be starting as a transferring second year in the school with Hibiki and Aki. Hibiki was going in for his final year before apprenticeship and Aki in the same year as him. He had been taking his studies seriously. Learning all the subjects that were not included in the Hogwarts curriculum and with the help of careful tutelage he was much more ingrained into the ways of the magical and creature world. Aki, had taken the Summer to show him around and introduce him to his friends while also meeting Draco, Severus, and Lucius. It still felt odd referring to the man by his first name but it was nice having people he could trust. He traded letters with some of the people he had met in Slytherin. Even his mentor who always seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.

But now here he was wondering what to pack and take with him. He would be sharing a dorm with two others and though they got their own rooms, they shared a common room and small kitchen like a dorm. There was no guarantee who he would get for a roommate. The school was composed almost entirely of creatures or creature blooded. Very few wizards actually went to the school but that was fine with him. He had already packed his wardrobe and things he would need for the semester. Along with his favorite hair ornaments and everything that went with it. He was convinced to not bring the entire collection, which had grown significantly. Once members of the flock realized he liked to style his hair he would find random shiny ornaments, hair sticks, or other things on his window sill or delivered. His father had told him it was common to spoil nestlings so it was alright to wear and use them. But once he reached adulthood and was introduced then the gifts would stop unless it was a courtship gift.

He could wait on his stuff and maybe start packing for Yasu. Nodding he began going about packing for his familiar. Tucking things away in the smaller second trunk. Yasu helped by lining up his favorite things next to him wagging his tail. “Alright I get that you are excited. How about you grab your travel bed and bring it over to me?”

The inu woofed softly and walked over to the large dog bed and began dragging it over happily. Tail high as he dragged it next to his charge and dropped it then sat obediently waiting for the next order. His tail thumping against the tatami mats excitedly. Then he stood up on all fours, his ears pricked forward as he tilted his head.

Harry turned and smiled right as there was a soft knock on his door then opened to show the Tengu Patriarch dressed in his formal evening robes he had to wear to the council banquet. One he did not have to attend until adulthood. Much to Sayuri and Hibiki’s displeasure.

“Harry, I came to check on you before I left. Working on packing everything?” He stepped in and scratched behind Yasu’s ear gently, “Good boy guarding him.”

The younger one smiled and nodded, “Yeah. I wasn’t sure what else to pack so I started on Yasu’s stuff.”

The man smiled and pulled him close, “I can’t believe I am seeing another child off to school. You are truly a blessing on our life Harry. As for what to pack, don’t worry. If you forget anything I can have it sent to the school. One year Hibiki forgot to pack his under things. He was mortified.”

Harry laughed, “I already packed all that.”

“Then you are already ahead of your older brother. I fear he is slacking off on the packing this year again.”

Green eyes blinked, “Should I go help him?”

The man frowned and pulled him into a hug, “That is up to you but I am sure he would enjoy your company. Aki is visiting with Grandmother so he won’t be home till later.”

Ah yes, the only tengu that was not as accepting of him. Or more so the fact that he had not been blood adopted yet. But he wouldn’t be. They were not sure what that would do with the block on his magical core still and he couldn’t have that removed until he was at least thirteen so they knew his body had the strength to survive it. She was still polite around him but did not go out of her way to meet or be kind. Her Zhen blood is stronger than her tengu blood. He had been told every once in a while a Zhen was born in their line thanks to their ancestors. So she was a bit less accepting of outsiders. Harry had learned that while most of the flock was tengu, there were other birds mixed in as well. There were three main species of tengu, Karasu, Hanataka, and Konoha or Raven, Crow, and owl. The main branch was Karasu though others were in the flock. There were a couple veela, though rare. Harpies also lived in the flock, though they were a more recent addition. Their homeland had been threatened and they migrated to the Change flock for protection, blending in with them a couple hundred years ago. Then the last two were Leishi. Creatures of cloud and thunder from China. They had come to court within the flock and decided to stay.

“I will go help him then.” He smiled and hugged back tightly. His thoughts still clouded with all the new information that he had been given over the past few months.

“Good, I know he will enjoy that. Sayuri has already left, since the council wanted him there earlier than usual. As the heir he has many responsibilities.”

Harry frowned, “What if Sayuri didn’t want to inherit the flock? What would happen then?”

The man tilted his head blinking the blue eyes curiously, “Then it would pass to Hibiki, Aki, or You. We would never force him to lead if he did not want it. But despite his dislike and grumblings he is looking forward to being flock leader one day.”

The younger one nodded and adjusted his glasses a little.

“You do know you don’t need those anymore.”

Harry nodded, “I know, but I have worn them for so long. It is strange to not wear them. Habit.”

The man smiled and gently removed them, “I can understand the habit but it is also not good for your eyes. Even if your ability allows your eyes to adjust to it. How about I take them for now?”

“Alright. I guess I have to get used to not wearing them eventually.”

“Precisely and it means more people can see those beautiful eyes more easily. Such a unique shade of green. I fear trying to keep others from courting you early will be difficult.”

Harry laughed, “Dad, I don’t think anyone is really going to court me.”

“Of course they will want to. Harry, you are a beautiful and unique soul who deserves love and happiness.”

He smiled up at his dad and hugged him even tighter, “What about my mate though?”

“That is why I say you deserve it, Harry. You have a soul mate out there. Waiting for you. Maybe even looking for you even now. Courtships are sometimes how you find them. You won’t know till you meet them, my lovely child.”

He nodded and the two hugged again before the man had to leave to go to the council banquet. Harry was nervous and left to think and ponder on his own again but now he had a new reason to finish packing. Hibiki would be happy to have them there to keep him company. He quickly finished up and then stretched and turned to Yasu, “You want to come with me or head to the gardens for a little bit.”

Yasu huffed and shook himself before jaunting past him and took a left to the garden leaving a laughing wizard behind him.

He grabbed his robe and pulled it on before stepping out into the hall and turning to the right, walking along the smooth wood until he reached an open door and knocked politely.

“Come in.”

Harry opened the door and stepped in and just about wanted to turn around and leave. The normally organized and clean room was in chaos. Clothes were thrown about on the floor, wardrobe, bed and there were countless stacks of books and other things just strewn about the room. “Hibiki is everything okay?”

The male turned, even his hair was sticking up or falling out of the high bun on top of his head, “Little feather! Oh yes everything is fine. I am just not sure what to bring.”

Harry bit his lower lip to hold in the laugh, “As long as you don’t forget your underwear I am sure it will be fine.”

The look of horror that crossed the tengu’s face was priceless, “Did Aki tell you about that? I am going to dump him in the pond.”

He couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore and gripped his stomach, “No, dad did.”

The open mouth of shock sent him into larger peels of laughter as he took in his older brother’s face, “Father? Really. Well, I will have you know that mom once said that he came to class one day without his hair orange from a prank. He had to have it magically fixed.”

The laughter got louder as Hibiki now joined his younger brother. The two slowly came down from their high and Harry flopped onto the other's bed avoiding the strewn clothes, “So, how can I help?”

“Just being here is a wonder Little Feather. You finished packing?”

“For the most part. I am still not sure what to bring recreational wise.”

Hibiki nodded, “well your painting and drawing have come a long way. Your potion skills put mine to shame and I am older than you.” The older flopped next to him, not bothering to avoid the clothes and his form shifted as he fully relaxed and pulled Harry against his chest before wrapping them in the large black wings. “You do know that whatever you want or need you can ask right?”

Harry nodded and curled into his older brother with a soft sigh. “I know. This is my second new school. Honestly, I am a bit nervous. I know I will have you and Aki there.”

“Yes we will be there and you have met a few of Aki’s friends and they seemed to like you.”

“I know, but what if I don't make any friends of my own? Draco says transferring a year late may cause a bit of a rift.”

“Well for wizarding schools perhaps. But this is different. Some species don't allow their children to go to school until they are older. Or they transfer from homeschooling. You won’t be the only transfer student.”

Harry nodded and tucked his face against the other’s chest, “Is it true we keep roommates for our entire stay?”

“Yes. Your roommates don’t change year to year. I have known mine since my very first year. They are my closest friends. You will have a very unique bond with them. You will see.”

“How are they picked?”

Hibiki blinked, “Mostly by random. But the headmaster will sometimes pair people up based on species or study interests. For example it is very bad to place a vampire with a fairy. Fairy blood is like crack to vampires. The temptation would be too much for them. Also Werewolves tend to be grouped together since they are pack oriented. Sometimes you get a lone wolf or two. Elves are very particular about who they will tolerate. They hate loud noises and brash personalities. You read that book right?”

“Yeah. It was really interesting. I like reading about different magical creatures. Like Yasu and you.”

“Have you thought about what you may want to specialize in? We get to pick in our fifth year but it's never too early to start thinking.”

Harry frowned and sighed, turning a little to tuck closer and reached up to trace a hand along the dark feathers enjoying the soft grinding happy sounds coming from his brother, “Magizoology. Or something like that. Maybe Potions or Healing.”

Hibiki smiled, “Those are some pretty lofty career choices but I know you would excel in any of them. Maybe you can mention that to your dorm superior. They can give you a hand in looking into each path.”

“Dorm superior. That is the teacher in charge of each dorm house right?”

“They are teacher assistants but yes. Every dorm house has one teacher assistant living in the dorm house. They are always housed in the same dorm house so you can talk to them at any time. Every dorm house has four levels. The main level is a large common room for the entire house, kitchen, and communal study or play rooms. The second, third, and fourth floor are all split into 2 dorms per level. Each dorm has 3 students. The Dorm Superior is on the first floor in their own private room and office.”

Harry nodded, “So there are about eighteen students per dorm and then the Dorm Superior.”

“That’s right. But sometimes not all the dorm rooms are taken and sometimes, though rarely, a dorm may have 2 or 4. No more than 4. Usually that's when you get a set of twins. Twins normally are never separated, especially magical creature twins. They are soul bound tightly.”

“Oh! I read about that. Its said most twins or even triplets are magical bound to the soul. It's rumored they are the same soul as well. They share everything. Magic, mates, even emotions.”

“That’s right. That's why they are so rare. You can't split a soul without severe consequences.”

“Like the Horcrux in my scar?”

Hibiki tensed and the anger and fear in his gaze was visceral. “Yes. But you have to know we will take care of it.”

Harry nodded and let his hand drop from the feathers, “but… if I can’t get it removed. Would my soulmate even want me?”

The tengu gave a vibrating growl and rolled till he fully faced him, taking the pale face into the sharp claws, “Harry, if your soulmate rejects you for something like that then they don’t deserve you. Do you understand? You are a beautiful loving soul and anyone would be lucky to have you. Don’t let that thing taint your thoughts.”

Harry felt the tears bite at the corner of his eyes and he nodded, “I won’t”

“Good” Hibiki leaned forward and kissed his head before gently wiping the tears away, “Now, I believe you were here to help your disorganized brother pack.”

Laughter bubbled up from him and he nodded, “Let’s get you packed. Can't forget your underwear.”

Chapter 2

Notes:

So I am in the market for a beta/proof reader. They would need to be comfortable with M/M romances as well as darker themed stories. I would also love someone who is willing to do more than fanfiction. I have been working on a novel lately and would love them to be involved with that as well. They would also have to be able to use Discord.

Chapter Text

Harry shifted nervously as he waited in the dining room with Aki. The two were hand in hand pressed close together. They had been sent their yearly packets and would have to open it to see their schedules, classes, and for Harry, dorm assignments.

“What if we aren't even in the same dorm house?”

Aki smiled, “Harry, it will be alright. You worry about everything. Look at me.” He took Harry’s face in his hands, “Even if our dorms are clear across the school I will still come see you every day. We may even share some of the same classes. Do you remember the aptitude tests? You have elemental aptitude so we will most likely have that class together as well.”

Harry nodded and sat down on one of the cushions, “I had aptitude for a lot of things according to them. Is it true we have to take more when we get older?”

“Yup, fifth year. That's when you can begin taking more advanced studies like Necromancy, Soul Magic, and other things that require a full grown core.” He sat next to Harry smiling, “But you said you were interested in Potions or Magizoology. You could even do both honestly.”

The younger leaned back and set his packet on the table, “Yeah. Dad already let's me explore what I want in both subjects. I heard he already forwarded a potions lab set up for me.”

“Oh Father is ecstatic that you're excelling in Potions. That was his focus in school.”

“It was?”

“Oh yeah, except he focused more on Poisons and Antidotes. He was trying to find a cure for the Zhen curse. But, there is no cure. Not really.”

“For Grandmother?”

Aki nodded, “Yeah. He was hoping to find a potion alternative to the toxic berries. One that would poison a potential mate. Or an antidote to combat it. But whatever the berries do to a Zhen’s biology can not be replicated.”

“Indeed, but maybe in the future.” The soft tones of their father spoke behind him and he stepped fully into the room and over to them. Embracing them tightly, “Hibiki has his and we are ready to begin the family tradition of opening school packets. Then tomorrow it is to the markets for books and other supplies for last minute packing.”

Hibiki grumbled as he sat at the table slapping down a larger packet, “I hope I got into the program I wanted.”

Sayuri was behind him grinning, fangs in full display as he gripped his brother's shoulders, “Well, you are having to repeat a couple classes due to last year's explosive conclusion.”

Harry and Aki snickered as the teasing as their father walked around the table and sat as well, “Alright boys. Hibiki you go first.”

The second eldest nodded and opened the packet and began pulling out the sleeves of papers. Some labeled test results and other things. There was a full campus map and lists of supplies for subjects. “Well I got passing grades in everything except potions.” He groaned and showed the failing grade. “They took the explosion into account. I have to retake it and take remedial lessons as well.”

The eldest shook his head, “Maybe they will let our little brother tutor you?”

Hibiki growled and took a swipe that was easily dodged, “He will be busy with his own schedule.”

Harry flushed and ducked his head, “Did you still get into the program?”

The elder flipped through a few packets and grinned, “I did! I got my apprenticeship!”

“That's amazing, what is it in?”

Hibiki grinned down at his youngest sibling, “I am wanting to get my mastery in the Mental Arts. I want to be a mind healer. So I can help people that have gone through trauma or other things.”

The youngest flushed, “So you will be helping people.”

“Hopefully in the future, yes. It isn’t as boring as what Aki wants to do.”

Aki glared, “Hey! Arithmancy and Runes are perfectly acceptable masteries.”

“If you like scribbling equations and making your brain hurt” Hibiki muttered, “Anyways, go ahead and open your packet Aki. Your next oldest.”

Aki rolled his eyes and opened his packet before looking it over, “I got into everything and got perfect scores in all but divination. Which I will be dropping this year.” He showed the results to his father before looking at Harry, “Your turn little brother! I can’t wait to see where you got placed.”

Harry fidgeted in his seat as he opened the packet and looked through it. The welcoming letter, map, and manual came out first and he set those to the side before pulling the schedule over, “All the basics, elemental studies, introduction to higher magics, and creature studies. I thought that was a third year course?”

His father chuckled, “I talked to the Headmaster, you are starting it a year early. He agreed you would do well in the class.”

Harry smiled and compared his classes to Aki, “We share a few, but I am in a different block for the others. I also don’t have divination. So we share a study block.”

Aki grinned and draped his arm over the other’s shoulder, “We will get to hang out and study together too! Now see what dorm you are in.”

Harry pulled out the secondary envelope and opened it, “I am in Dorm House Seven. The Cascade Room. My roommates are Adrian Havok and Aarav Mora.”

Aki jerked back, “Havok? You were put with one of the Havok brothers?”

Green eyes blinked, “Is that bad?”

Hibiki shook his head, “No, not really. Havok is a coven name. He is a vampire. But the Havok clan are known to be a bit more temperamental.”

“You mean insane. Or do you not remember what Andrew Havok did last year.”

Harry shivered, “Well, I just have to be careful right? Now to irritate him. I am sure I will be fine. Just because he is from the coven doesn't mean he is like the others right?”

“Well no, but Harry please be careful. We can teach you a ward that will not allow him to enter your room as well. I wouldn’t put it past a Havok to sneak a snack off a room mate.” Aki growled.

The other shifted nervously and looked to his father who looked to be in thought before he smiled softly at his youngest, “It will be fine Harry. The headmaster wouldn’t put you with someone who would hurt you out of spite. He isn’t the kind. If he thinks Havok is a good fit for the dorm then he most likely is. But I agree with Aki, we should teach you the warding spell. He wouldn’t be going to school if he couldn’t control his hunger. But things happen so it is best to keep accidents at bay.” Then stood and walked over, “Don’t worry Harry. You will be just fine.”

Then Sayuri spoke up, “What was the second dorm mate?”

Harry lifted the paper, “Aarav Mora.”

The eldest frowned, “Mora, where have I heard that name before.” He leaned back against the wall with a claw tapping at his knee, “Oh! Mora. That is a powerful family from India. They specialize in Herbology most of the time. It is rumored they are creature blooded but no one has been able to prove it. They normally don’t leave their home country.”

Aki snorted, “Then why is one suddenly transferring to Japan?”

Sayuri shrugged, “Who knows but Little Feather won’t have a single thing to worry about from a Mora.”

Now Harry was staring at him, “Why?”

The eldest grinned, “You will see little brother. Don’t worry.”

Harry nodded and looked through the last of the paperwork, “So many books and supplies. Wait, most of these say fresh. How are we supposed to have fresh ingredients while at school.”

Hibiki spoke up, “Some students grow their own but for those that dont the campus has its own green houses the students can harvest ingredients from. We are also allowed to the market once a month that is close to the school.”

“Oh, I like gardening. That sounds like fun, growing my own.” He set the list down and leaned back into the cushion. “So we go shopping tomorrow?”

“Indeed, and now that I know you're interested in growing your own, we can work that into it as well. Get you some books on gardening and harvest. Plant care.” Hiroto kissed the top of both his youngests’ heads, “Alright let's have dinner and then off to bed early. Even you Sayuri. You will be in charge of the morning clan meeting tomorrow while I take your brother’s shopping.”

Harry giggled as the eldest gave a long suffering sigh as he flopped onto one of the other floor cushions.

---------------

The next morning the four Changs stood at the entrance of the gate with three guards around them. Hiroto smiled down at his three children, “Alright. Hibiki, I want you to stay close to Aki. Harry you stay with me alright? We will stay together most of the time but just to be sure make sure you stay in sight of a guard. There is one for each of you.”

Harry nodded and looked at the three. They were dressed in normal clothes for the moment. Slacks, button ups, and each appeared to have no weapon but Harry knew that they did. They were all dressed similarly as they were going to a magical market. Totori Alley. He remembered his dad talking about it once before but this would be his first time seeing it.

He shifted nervously and reached up to hold his dad’s hand and got a gentle squeeze in return. Yasu was at his side panting happily with his service harness on. The pockets had some spending money and other things in it for Harry, or even for Yasu. He reached down and gripped the handle on the back of the harness as well. Then a pop and they were being squeezed and pulled at the same time before landing hard on a floor surface. Harry wavered in place groaning. His black hair turning green as he partially draped over the large canine.

A soothing hand rubbed his back, “Deep breaths Harry. It will pass.” The gentle care helped the nausea fade and slowly his hair fell back to its normal black color.

Aki smiled softly at him, “You really do have a bad reaction to magical transport. Look at Yasu, he hasn’t budged an inch while you lean on him.”

Hitori laughed softly, “Yasu is very smart and is Harry’s familiar. He will know what Harry needs and will protect him as well. That is why we have that harness on him. It helps him help Harry.”

Harry nodded and stood a little straighter, “Like a muggle service animal.”

“Exactly. But even more special as you are bonded for life.” The elder nodded and then took Harry’s hand again. “Everyone ready?”

Nods and affirmations sounded and the group set out of the room opening the door to a bright and colorful street filled with shops and vendors. Unlike Diagon Alley the shops were more open, less buildings and more stalls and tents set up in rows around a central hub for food and conversation. Harry looked around gasping at all the sights. It was easy to tell how open the community was compared to Britain. He could see creatures and wizards standing side by side. A small group of kids playing with a quaffle in the streets, kicking it about like a soccer ball.

They walked along the vendors seeing the different wares for sale, bright colors and swirls of scents in the air. It was easy to get overwhelmed. Books were found at different shops and with the help of the magical baskets, everything was paid for and tucked in. Harry gasped in awe as he watched one man breath fire into the air making it swirl and take shape. It was more like a festival than a market. The day passed so quickly Harry hardly had time to fully enjoy all the sights and sounds of it. Even as they sat for food in the central hub, his eyes watched and took in as much as it could.

“It's so amazing. So much to see, how do you catch everything in a single day?” Harry asked as he watched another group of performers.

Aki shrugged, “You get used to it eventually. But this is more performances than usual. It’s because it's the last weekend before all the students go back. They always have more of a festival set up to send the students off.”

Harry smiled brightly and watched as one of the performers came to their table and swayed to the music with a crown of flowers about his head as he swirled and smiled down at Harry. His bright translucent wings shimmered in the afternoon light and Harry clapped for the fae.

The fae smiled at him and gave a little bow of his head before blowing a small hand of petals at Harry and dancing off.

“A fae blessing. Of course Little Feather gets a fae blessing.” Hibiki mumbled.

Harry tilted his head and then caught a flash of color out of the corner of his eye, “Huh?” He reached up to feel flowers and vines weaved into his hair. He turned to his dad who waved his hand to hover a magical mirror before him. Green eyes taking in the bright vibrant flowers that now framed the hair sticks he had chosen to wear, the feathers fanned out between the two sticks now accented with the sweet scented flowers, “Oh wow.” One bloom in particular stood out just over his ear and he lifted a hand to touch it eyes going wide as he carefully pulled it off and stared at it, “It's made of glass?”

Hiroto shook his head, “No, it is a real flower. It is called Fae’s Kiss. They are an eternal blossom that only a fae can grow using their magic. It’s a high honor to receive one. A blessing. It will never break, never die. It can never be lost or stolen.”

The young wizard smiled and brought it to his nose and breathed in the gentle scent. It smelled like a mix of lemongrass and lavender. Soothing to the senses and he gave a calming sigh. “It’s beautiful.”

Aki laughed, “My little brother is the coolest.”

The others laughed and soon they were finishing up their food and rejoining the crowd to shop for the last of their things. Harry stopped to buy a couple hair pieces as he went and then again as a stall selling small mystery boxes and he found his curiosity had him buying 2 of the trinkets.

Soon though they found themselves heading home and Harry hummed the bright happy music that he had heard in the hub. It had been an experience he would remember for the rest of his life.

Harry groaned as he stared at the ticket in his hand. He was the reason why they were having to take yet another magical transportation instead of flying to school like they normally would.

Aki grinned and wrapped an arm around his shoulders, “Oh come on. It will be alright. You got this and we will be landing in a private room so no one will see how badly it affects you.”

The green eyes pinned his brother in a glare before looking at his father and smiling, “I don’t know if I am ready but… I want to make you proud.”

The man stepped forward and hugged him tight, “You already have. Now, be good. Write to me as often as you can and keep your brothers out of trouble. You're in charge, Harry.” He gave a wink as the older two spluttered for a come back. He laughed and stood before hugging both of his other sons, burrowing his face into their hair to scent them properly as he had Harry. “Protect your brother. No matter what.”

They nodded and touched foreheads gently before stepping over to Harry and laying a hand on his shoulders as Harry gripped the ticket in one hand and Yasu’s harness in the other. Their things had already been sent ahead and would be waiting in their dorms. Jerking, twisting, pulling yanked Harry from his feet and he toppled over as he became reacquainted with the ground.

His hand gripping Yasu who had caught him before he face planted. Calming hands running down over his back and he grumbled embarrassed at the reaction he had every time. It felt awful. Slowly his body stopped rebelling and he stood back up taking a few needed gulps of air.

Aki smiled and brushed the stray darkening hair behind his ear, “You alright now?”

He nodded before looking at Hibiki who was at the door speaking to someone. He patted Yasu on the head gently and got a lick to the back of his hand. “Who is Hibiki talking to?”

The other looked over his eyes narrowing a little, “I don’t know.”

They watched as the eldest talked to the person at the door before he stepped to the side and let the other in. The two stepped over and both the youngers eyed the stranger.

Hibiki smiled and gestured to the person, “This is Sarah, she is a Dorm Superior and has come to greet Harry.”

Harry flushed and waved, “Oh uhm. Hi.”

She smiled at him and gave a polite nod of her head. She was a tall woman in a moderate dress of grey and green. Her blond curls were pulled into a single tail, “Hello Harry. As one of our transfers this year I am here to escort you around the school and show you all the sights and to your dorm. I hadn’t realized that you already had older brothers to help you out.”

Green eyes blinked and he glanced to them, “Oh yeah. They were going to show me around. I’m sorry.”

She waved off the apology, “Oh honey don’t worry about it.” Her voice thick and soft, “You just saved me hiking in these heals. But look here sugar if you need any help at all you just give me a holler alright?”

Harry smiled, “Okay. Thankyou.”

She smiled and pulled out a card and handed it to him, “No sweat sugar. No finer tour guides than family. Ta ta now!” She waved to him and walked off heels clacking as she went.

Aki shivered, “She was so… cheerful.”

The younger one laughed, “I liked her. Her voice was really nice.”

Hibiki snorted, “Well then, our younger brother likes country accents.”

“Country accents?”

The eldest nodded, “She is from America in the south. Georgia I think. Her family is famous for breeding Wampus Cats. She herself is a were. Though, I can’t remember which kind.”

Harry nodded, “That’s pretty cool. So, what next?” He gripped Yasu’s harness gently and leaned a little against the large canine who took it in stride and leaned back to support him.

“Now we show you around!” Aki grabbed his hand and tugged him out of the room excitedly. “You're going to love it.”

-----

By the time they were done touring the campus Harry was exhausted. It didn’t have as many stairs as Hogwarts but the campus was a sprawling masterpiece of multiple buildings. There was even a mini market that sold standard school supplies. The gardens and hot houses took up almost an entire section that led straight to the sports pitch. Beyond that it was nothing but forest and wilderness. Which he knew had trails for students to ride or run in. They even had stables where you could take one of the many mounts provided by the school and taken care of by the students as well. Apparently students helped in the maintenance and there was a chore rotation that went by dorms. Each week different dorms were rotated around to care for the gardens, stables, kitchens, and even cleaning.

Harry followed behind Aki as they came to one of the matching dorms. Every dorm was identical. It looked like a large house, brick laid with wooden accents. Every dorm was numbered so you knew which was which. This one had a large number seven on the side and he knew that the tour was coming to an end. He smiled softly and hugged Aki, “Thank you for showing me around. I think we lost Hibiki some were.”

Aki grinned, “Yeah. He disappeared right about the time we passed those girls near the stables.” He looked at the dorm, “You sure you don’t want me to go in with you?”

He smiled and hugged his brother again, “I am sure. I need to do this myself. I have Yasu with me too.”

The other sighed and leaned into the hug, “Alright. Send me a letter tonight when you have settled down to rest so I can send you the directions to my dorm. Good luck and if your roommates try to mess with you let Yasu bite their faces off!”

Harry laughed and patted the canine’s head, “I don’t think he will need to do that. See you tomorrow morning?”

“Yeah, I will come get you for breakfast.”

The two shared one more private moment before Harry straightened up and headed into the dorm house. Stepping into the foyer he looked around at the place he would be calling home for the rest of his school life. It was simple and elegant. The main room had couches and chairs clustered in a circle around a fire. Plush rugs and a few solo chairs and tables off to the sides for those not wanting to join the main circle. The whole room was done in soft creams and browns with a splash of color here and there. He could see the arch way leading to a large rec room. Several tables and games, shelves with more gaming supplies. The other archway led off into a smaller office like room where he could see another door. Probably for the Dorm Superior.

He took a deep breath and looked down at the sheet in his hand to confirm his room number and began heading up the stairs, he was on the third floor. Then to the right, all the walls were seamless wood paneling but the names of the dorms for the level were eye level at the stair. Finally coming to a wood door labeled ‘Cascade Room’. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes a moment as he counted to five for his nerves. Looking down at Yasu he grinned, “Ready?”

The soft woof had him grinning wider as he pushed the door open. The first sight was a homey living room. Much like downstairs it was done in creams and browns with accents of green or gold. There were large windows taking up almost an entire wall leading to a balcony where he could already see pots and plants sitting out. Two couches and chairs sat in a half circle around a fireplace and low table. The floor was wood with thick carpet you could burrow your toes into. It felt like a home. The kitchen was small but equipped with all the modern fixings. Even a fridge, though he could tell they were run by magic and not electricity. He let Yasu in and shut the door softly behind him. His roommates must not be here yet. Or were getting settled into their own rooms. He rubbed behind Yasu’s ears and smiled, “Looks nice doesn’t it Yasu?” laughing at the soft woof.

He looked at the three doors and noticed two had plaque with names written on them but the third plaque was empty. Ah, so they had already claimed their rooms. Well that would make sense. He stepped over to the last unmarked door and set his hand on it. A small prick of pain and he pulled it back to watch his name carve into the metal, ‘Hadrian James Potter Chang’. It made him happy to know that his full name was getting used and that most would refer to him as a Chang not a Potter. He opened the door and let himself and Yasu in before shutting the door behind him. He sighed and leaned back against the door. It looked so much like his room at home. It was on purpose of course. All his furniture and things he had selected had all been sent ahead. The large low circular bed, vanity, dresser were all like the ones at home. The biggest change was the large table against one wall were his small potion station was set up. Another table was empty for whatever he needed it for. No fireplace but he hadn’t wanted one. His room also had its own private balcony where a couple potted plants had already been set up. His chests were sat near the door, all three. He never thought he would be someone with multiple chests for belongings. “Well guess it is time to unpack huh?” He flipped open Yasu’s first, “Well, go ahead. I know you will want to pick your own spot.” Then laughed as the inu grabbed his bed and dragged it from the chest and over to a corner near the window dropping it down and began walking back and forth unpacking his own trunk.

Harry shook his head and began to unpack his own things, clothes and things going away, books on shelves, supplies on the desk. Just unleashing everything into the perfect order his room was always kept. Some habits couldn’t be broken and his Aunt’s demands for cleanliness and order had been drilled into him to the point he couldn't handle things not being in their place. The healer had called it OCD and with help he could work to either alleviate or control the urges but he hadn’t thought he needed it. Nothing bad happened to keeping things neat and orderly. It was the panic attacks, nightmares, and touch that he was still working his way through. Yasu played a large part in helping and he was fine with his family. But being here set him on edge.

Once done he looked around and finally pulled the Fae’s Kiss from his chest and set it on his vanity with his other hair trinkets. He still didn’t know why he had gotten one. He had read up on Fae Blessings. They were oftentimes flowers, seeds, or some other piece of nature. They were given as courting gifts or as tokens of thank you. Sometimes they were given to those pure of heart, or to people on quests. But he didn’t fit any of the normal criteria. It wasn’t like he could ask a fae. He sat at the vanity and began to pull his hair free of the braids letting his hair fall to his waist. He kept it long all the time now. Much preferring it to the tangled nest it was before. Once done he settled the feathers into a long wooden box to keep them safe while he slept. He should have gotten some food but his nerves wouldn't let him eat. Opening the messenger box he pulled out his evening potions and drank them, setting the vials back in the box and pulled out the letters that were hidden within. Even on the day he went to school his friends wrote to him, Uncle Severus and Lucius too. Though his school started earlier than Hogwarts. He collected the whole stack and curled up in the large plush chair near his bookcase and settled down to read them all. He could write them in the morning or if he had spare time the next day. For now, he would take this time to himself.

Chapter Four

The next morning Harry woke to the smell of something cooking. Yasu whining softly and pacing by his door. Harry groaned and dragged himself out of bed and over to the door opening it just enough for the canine to dart out of the room and into the common room. Harry had enough sense to grab a robe and pull it on before stepping out of his room, yawning. Rubbing at his eyes. His sleep had been less than perfect. The sight that greeted him was odd to say the least. Two other boys were in the room. One looked maybe a year or two older than him and the other the same age. Both were talking in the kitchen while the older looking one was cooking something over the stove.

“What the hell there is a dog?” The younger shouted and backed up front he canine quickly. Who came up to him curiously but stopped before full approaching.

“Yasu, leave them be.” Harry called and watched the canine come trotting back to him and blushed, “I’m sorry. He is my familiar. Uhm. I’m Harry.”

The one cooking turned and smiled, “Hello Harry. I am Aarav, this harsh mouth idiot is Adrian. I hope you like bacon and eggs. Mama says food is the best way to introduce yourself.” the boy gave a bright smile and began serving up the eggs onto the plates, “Adrian why don’t you set the table.”

“Why the hell do I have to set it. I don’t even eat this stuff.”

“Because Harry is new and doesn’t know where everything is. Or will you drive this poor boy off as well?” The other shot at him.

The younger growled and flashed sharp canines. His black hair stuck up in short spikes and the red eyes clarified that he was indeed the vampire of the Havok, “Fine. Hey, kid. You watch where I am taking stuff from. I am not going to be serving you every day.”

Harry fidgeted, “Oh I can help. If you just tell me where the things are?”

Aarav gave a bright smile, “Nonsense. Ignore his sharp tongue. He has no manners but I have been working on it.”

“Hey! You can’t just insult me. I am standing right here asshole.”

Green eyes widened and he backed up a little, “Really. It’s okay.” but he stopped talking as the vampire began setting the table for the three of them but the red eyes kept glancing at Yasu suspiciously.

The other boy in the kitchen carried the plates out and smiled brightly. He wore soft brown robes over a white pair of pants and shirt. His hair was long and black pulled into a high ponytail. His eyes were a bright yellow that seemed slitted slightly down the middle. He set the plates down and went back into the kitchen to return with a couple glasses of water and one glass of a dark red liquid he guessed was blood.

He looked to Harry, “Come sit, eat. You must be starving.”

Harry nodded and stepped up to the table and sat at one of the plates with eggs. Arranging the silverware to be straight along the edge of the plate, the glass in front and to the right of the silverware. “Uhm, Thankyou.”

Aarav just kept on his smile, “Oh your welcome. So, I suppose we should all introduce ourselves. I am Aarav Mora, Naga, and I am 14. I am starting as a second year this year.”

The vampire glared at him and sat down taking a long gulp of the glass, “Adrian Havok, Vampire obviously. I’m 54 but I guess I am 12 by human standards, second year.”

Green eyes looked at them both curiously, and when they both stared back he quickly swallowed his bite, “Oh right. Harry Chang. Human Wizard and I am 12. Second year transfer.”

Adrian looked at him oddly, “Wizard, really? You don’t smell like a wizard. You smell like a bird.”

Aarav sighed and rubbed at his head, “While he isn't wrong that was rude I apologize.”

Harry gave a small smile, “I’m adopted by the Chang Clan Tengu.”

That got them both nodding like it should have been obvious before the vampire finally spoke up, “How you get adopted by a bunch of birds?”

“It's a long story. I'd rather not talk about it.” Harry answered honestly, “Oh! This is Yasu. He is an Inuyokai and my familiar.”

The vampire startled and coughed as the blood went up his nose instead of down his throat. He gasped and slapped his chest, “How did you get an Inuyokai as a familiar?'' What the hell kid.”

Aarav laughed softly and wiped up the blood that had splattered on the table, “I am sure it is a very private story, Adrian. We should not push him about it. Though if you're ever willing to share the tale.”

Harry blushed, “I found him caught in a trap. His leg had been broken. I got him out of the trap. He ran off but then I found him later in a cage. Some lady wanted to kill him and called him dangerous. But then he bit me and sealed the familiar bond and now we are best friends. Right Yasu.”

The canine looked up, his tongue lolling out of his mouth as he gave a soft woof.
Aarav smiled softly, “A beautiful bond indeed. Inuyokai are highly protective creatures. It is an honor to meet the bond of one.”

The wizard looked over, “You said you were a naga? My brother said the Mora family has never revealed their creature blood.”

The other rose a brow, “Yes I would think that correct because I am the first. The blood has always been there but it has been dormant for many generations. I am the first the blood has become active in. It is why I am starting school so late.”

Harry nodded, “That is really cool. May I ask what the difference is between a naga and a gorgon?”

The other seemed surprised, “Well many things. Naga can assume a human form, inbetween, and full snake form. Naga can also be male or female while Gorgon are only female and can only have the one form. Then there are Lamia as well. They are like naga but more akin to a basilisk than a snake like a naga is. Lamia are also increasingly rare and have to come from another Lamia or a basilisk line.”

Greene yes widened, “Oh wow. That is really cool. I want to work towards a Magizoology Mastery. So forgive me if I get a little to pushy with questions.”

“Nonsense, ask as many as you like.”

Adrian snorted and leaned back in his chair draining the rest of his glass, “Sure talk to the split tongue about what he is.”

Harry blushed, “I didn’t think you would want to answer questions.”

“Well maybe you shouldn’t assume kid. Ask away.” Then gave a grin that showed off the blood-stained fang.

The younger flinched a little and looked down at his plate, the other made him nervous. “Uhm, no I don’t want to bother you.”

Aarav sighed, “You are scaring him Adrian.”

“Wha…” The vampire groaned and stood up grumbling to himself as he grabbed empty plates and put them in the sink, “Look. I’m not going to hurt you kid. I’m not like the others in my coven. Now, what are you good at huh? We normally have a chore schedule so everyone helps out.”

Harry looked up, “I can cook, clean, normal stuff like that. “But I prefer by hand, rather than magic.” Watching as the vampire waved his hand and cleaned the dishes and floated them back to their places.

“Magic is quicker and probably cleaner too.” Adrian stepped from behind the counter, “But suit yourself. The fridge was stocked when we went shopping the other day. There is a list for things we need next to the door for the monthly market trip. The jar for the money is on the table next to the door. No parties, no wild loud nights. You can have people over just keep them to your room or the common room got it?”

The youngest nodded, “So you said you're in your fifties?”

The other laughed and nodded, “I am a born vampire. Not turned. We age slower. We remain children longer, then have a growth spurt and progress mostly normally until our twenties where our aging tends to freeze.”

“Wow. What is the difference between the two?”

Adrian came over and seemed to be thinking, “Born dont have to learn to control their thirst like a turned one does. Born have to feed from their parents for the first fifty years. That is what slows our growth. Then once we start drinking from other sources thats when the growth spurt happens and we age normally. We have stronger abilities but turned can have unique abilities that come from their previous life.” He tapped the table, “oh, eye color. Born will always have red eyes. Turned can revert to their normal eye color when well fed.”

Harry listened and nodded along with the explanation, “I never knew there are born vampires. They don’t teach that in Hogwarts.”

Aarav winced, “Of course not. Wizarding Britain is one of the most restrictive countries. They don’t allow you to learn about many things. Too dark.” He stood and stretched, “Opening Ceremonies will be starting soon, we should all get ready.”

The youngest stood up, “Oh yeah, I was supposed to have breakfast with my brother but…” He looked at the clock in confusion.

Adrian waved him off, “He won’t be able to get in. You have to get approval from the Dorm Superior. This is a hive building so you need to approve all entering and exiting visitors.”

Green eyes squinted a little, “Hive building?”

It was the other who spoke up, “Yes. Everyone in this building except a select few are all lone creatures. Even our Adrian is a lone vampire and has chosen to not be with the rest of his coven. Let's see. We have a pair of elf twins and a werewolf that share this floor. Above us is a couple veela and one other vampire as well as a hybrid. Not sure exactly what he is a hybrid of though. Then we have a demon and of course our Dorm Superior is a Seelie Fae.”

Harry blinked a couple times, “Wow. You know a lot about everyone.”

Aarav laughed, “Well I make it my business to know and most I can recognize by scent. We are one of the more diverse dorms. The misfits and the like. Which makes me wonder why you were placed here and not in one of the other dorms with some of the other bird folk. As a tengu fledgling you would have a strong bond with a nesting dorm.”

He shrugged, “I was told to trust the process and it's okay. Aki and Hibiki know where I am and they can come see me or I can go see them.”

Adrian snorted, “You're related to Hibiki Chang. Man you got the short straw. That guy is a walking disaster. I heard he blew up an entire potion wing.”

Harry frowned and crossed his arms, “Just one lab and it was an accident. He isn’t good at potions. I don’t allow him near my lab. Hibiki is a wonderful person and you shouldn’t talk bad about him”

“Chill kid, wow you are a defensive one.” The vampire held up his hands, “I'm going to go get ready , you two do what you want.”

The wizard watched the vampire before thanking Aarav and ducking into his own room with Yasu. Dressing in a pair of slacks and button up before pulling on an over robe of hunter green, dragon hide boots, gloves, before sitting in front of his vanity and brushing his hair. Twisting and braiding it up into a single bun were he fanned the feathers and used a silver and jade comb to clip them all into place. A few decorative hair pins of jade were added as well before he let a single small braid fall on the right side of his face twisting green ribbon and two beads of jade into it. He felt more put together and ready to face the world.

Standing he stepped over to help Yasu into his harness before sliding his letters, supplies, books, and other things into the pockets of the vest, took his potions and made sure he had everything he needed before stepping out with Yasu, “Let's go.” He nodded to the other two who looked at him oddly as he stepped through the living room and out the door into the main hall. He could hear the bustle from down below and took a few even breaths before heading down onto the main floor.

It was chaos. Two girls were arguing with a tall male who had a handprint bleeding his face red. Two others were playing some game in the other room and another female was perched in a chair with her nose in a book and a glass of deep red liquid in her hand. Harry blinked at the chaos and was about to make a run for it before someone was clapping for attention.

“Alright, Alright enough. Let me get a head count before we head to the assembly.” The voice was deep and carried over the den of excitement.

Harry jumped a little when he felt two people approach from behind him but as Adrian passed by him on one side he relaxed knowing the other was probably Aarav. He looked for the one that spoke and his eyes widened. A tall beautiful fae stood in the doorway to the office. His pale green skin was smooth against the charcoal gray button up and slacks he wore. His long auburn hair was braided behind him and the same bright pansy eyes glowed with playfulness. Even the bright wings that trailed behind him seemed identical to the fae dancer he had seen in the market.

The fae looked around and when he saw Harry he nodded politely and gave a little wink before facing the rest of the crowd, “Alright, I see we are all here. Now as you can see we have a few less students than most dorms but that is just fine. Now before we head the assembly I want to go ahead and go over our dorm rules and who I am for those that are new to our dorm this year!”

He gave a flourish of a bow as vines and flowers began to bloom and curl up the doorframe he stood in, “I am Olivier Lavigne and I am your Dorm Superior.”

He gave a flourish of a bow as vines and flowers began to bloom and curl up the doorframe he stood in, “I am Olivier Lavigne and I am your Dorm Superior.”
He stood straighter and looked around, “Now as you are all well aware, we have a new student joining our dorm this year. Everyone please welcome Harry Chang, he will be joining those in the Cascade Room. I expect you all to give him a warm welcome and help him with whatever he needs. Now. As we do have someone new I will go ahead and go over the rules of the dorm.”

Harry watched curiously and flushed a little when several glanced at his direction but made sure to keep his attention mostly on the Fae as he began to speak about the rules of the dorm.

“As most of you know we are a Hive Building so please make sure to have all visitors logged in and approved through me. Please keep all food and other items in your dorm or the main area. No food is allowed in the gaming room.” He looked at one of the boys in the back pointedly, “Our dorm has its own private greenhouse, if you need access to it then come get the key from me. No fighting in the dorm. Other than that try to get along and be sure that if you have any problems do not hesitate to come to me.” He grinned and clapped his hands together, “Let's head to the assembly!”

----------

Harry groaned as he stepped out into the large central auditorium. The whole school, while smaller than Hogwarts, was so spread out that it was hard to memorize and get around at times. Now with the assembly was over he was ready to retire for the day and hide away from everyone. Even though he wanted to see his brothers. He hadn’t seen them yet at all but he knew they were fine. They would have found a way to contact him if they needed to.

“Oh what a cute dog, can I pet him!”

Harry turned as a younger girl stepped up and reached a hand out to Yasu. “Oh uhm, well I’m not sure he will let you? Please be careful.” He flushed a little and gripped the harness a bit tighter.

“What are you doing can't you tell he is a service familiar. You can't just touch him.” a voice snapped out from behind him.

The girl jerked her hand back and glared, “Shut up Adrian, what do you know?”

Adrian stepped up beside Harry, “He is my roommate so I do know. What are you doing here Amelia. Shouldn’t you be with Andrew or Altair?”

The girl sneered, a small fang peeking out, “what the fuck do you know black blood. You shouldn’t talk to me like that. Father will have your head.”

Harry looked between the two, they did look a little similar and the way they spoke made Harry think they knew each other. No wait she had said Father. So they were related. Right?

Adrian rolled his eyes, “Then tell father I have been a bad childe, see if I care. Now what do you want Amelia?”

“Just saying hello to the new boy is all. He seems interesting and his puppy is adorable. I wonder if Father will get me one.”

Harry cleared his throat, “My name is Harry and this is Yasu but Adrian is right. I would rather Yasu was left alone. He is my familiar. Do you two know each other?”

The girl grinned brightly, “He is my little brother for whatever that is worth.”

Green eyes narrowed on her, “what is that supposed to mean?”

“Forget it Harry, it isn’t worth our time. I see your brothers. You should go see them.” Adrian set a hand on his shoulder to steer him away.

“But what she said.”

“Doesn’t matter. Please. I rather not talk about it here out in the open. Please, just go to your brother's. They look like they are about to come over here and pull you away.” He interrupted while softly nudging Harry towards his relatives.

Harry looked over and saw his brothers glancing over at him, he smiled and waved before looking at Adrian one more time and making sure he was alright before going over to the others and smiling, “Hey.”

Hibiki grinned and pulled him close and tucked him into his side, “Hey there Little Feather. We saw you had company and we were not sure if we should go over or let you handle it.”

“No things were fine. I think she was going after Adrian more than me. She called him something and it didn’t sound nice.”

Aki stepped closer, “Well they are both in the same clan so it is best to not get involved. See the crest they both wear. That is the Crest of Havok.” He pulled Harry from Hibiki and hugged him tightly, pressing their foreheads together lovingly. “I tried to stop by this morning but your Dorm Superior would not let me in.”

Harry laughed and nuzzled into the hug happily, “Yeah, I have to get guests approved with him. Oh! It is the fae we met at the market. The one that gave me the flower. It is the same one.”

Hibiki laughed, “He probably knew you would be in his dorm and gave you the blessing as a welcome. Fae are very serious about who they look over and protect.”

“Yeah, he seemed nice. I am hoping to talk to him today to get you both added to the approved visitor list. But I am not sure when I will be able to. There is the orientation still and the first home room. Then the meet and greet for Transfers.”

Aki laughed, “We have a similar schedule. It is going to be a busy day and we can't join you for a couple of them but you will be fine. Look at you already making friends and handling yourself.”

Hibiki nodded, “How are your roommates coming along? They nice?”

The youngest tilted his head, “Yeah they are pretty cool. Aarav made us breakfast. He is a good cook. A couple years older than me, they both are but I guess that is common with creature blooded?”

Hibiki nodded and led the other towards the direction of the mess hall so they could all get food. “You will flourish here I think Harry. To the home room we go.”

The younger laughed and hooked arms with both his brothers and they walked along the school. Harry got to meet a few of the other people that hung around the school. Including the other Tengu that were from different nests. They took him under their wing almost immediately. All day if he wasn’t near his brother another Tengu was close by and watching. It freaked him out at first but they didn’t bother him unless they noticed a problem which, luckily for him, was rare. He just knew this was the right place for him.
