Chapter 1: The Mating Contract
Chapter Text
Chapter 1
“Why the fuck must I be given to the Hell spawn?” Ciel was less than amused at what his father just told him.
Vincent's eyes narrowed. “Control your tongue Ciel. Do not forget who you are speaking to.” The King of vampires looked at the young boy in front of him.
Ciel was five feet exactly with deep blue-gray hair and brilliant sapphire eyes. Currently those eyes were a purple color, displaying his anger. Soft lily skin covered the thin frame which in turn was covered with clothes befitting his station. And when the boy of a mere 130 years scowled and opened those full lips to speak, the tips of fangs could be seen. They weren't extended, knowing better than to bare fangs at his father.
“Just because you're the King does not mean you can sell me!” Ciel Phantomhive was Prince of vampires and was just informed that in order to create a better peace treaty, the King of the demons demanded to be given Ciel as his mate. “I haven't even met him. And does he know how old I am? That's disgusting. Then again he is a demon after all.” The distaste for his kind was heavy in his voice.
Vincent looked like the full-grown version of Ciel, though his eyes were still blue. “I will admit it is unusual and a bit disconcerting.”
Ciel crossed his arms over his chest. “Isn't he like 2,000 years old? That's messed up.”
Vincent ran his hand though his hair. “The point is we need this treaty. The demons are growing in strength and numbers. We are fast approaching the point where if they claim war, we may not win. You are over 100 years so you are mature enough to mate.” His eyes narrowed. “You will do your duty to your people. You will sacrifice yourself as their Prince. This is happening. He will be here in one week to make the contract. Prepare yourself. Now leave.”
Ciel let out a frustrated growl, but he bowed low. “Yes father.” He turned and stormed out of the room. He prowled through the castle, his destination a specific set of rooms. He would do this for his people, but he will not give in. He didn't know much about the demon King, but he knew someone who did. There was his aunt who enjoyed gossip more than anything. She should know about the sulfur beings.
He entered the room and flinched at all the red. It really was too much. “Aunt Anne. I need to talk to you.” He still had a scowl on his face.
Angeline glanced up from the book she was reading and smirked. “Come to ask about the demon King, have you?” She was a lovely woman with short red hair and beautiful red eyes that could also glow purple with her power. She possessed the same pale porcelain skin as all vampires did. As usual she was dressed in all red. She was the sister of the Queen and while she had at one-point desired Ciel's father, she now happily watched Vincent and Rachel live their successful mating.
Ciel nodded and sat down across from her. “I have one week before he comes to get me. Tell me.”
A grin was given at the opportunity to let loose some gossip. “The King's name is Sebastian Michaelis. He is the oldest King with the longest rule. His interest in you is a shock as while he has had many lovers, he has refused to take a mate. Let alone a vampire.”
Ciel grit his teeth with disgust in his eyes at the ‘many lovers' part. “Great. I'm being given to a man-whore. Demons have no loyalty.”
Anne frowned. “Not true. Demons are possibly the most loyal beings. Once in a contract, they will never betray. That's why treaties with them are so coveted. If he swears to be only with you, he will have no one else.” She smirked. “Besides, demons are highly sexual beings. I'm sure your time will be spent mainly in his bed.”
Ciel blushed, his light skin turning an adorable shade of pink. “Don't say such things! I'm already annoyed at our age difference. Don't remind me why he wants me.”
She shrugged. “While I'm sure your looks factor into it I highly doubt that your age is part of it. And to tell the truth, your looks are likely not everything. He is highly intelligent and cunning. His power is unquestionable and he rules with a tight fist. Despite what you believe I have a feeling you will enjoy battling wits with him.”
The boy scoffed and stood. “I doubt that.” He turned and left the room. That had been very good information and he did feel a bit better about knowing the demon will be faithful. He got to his rooms and sighed. “This week will suck.”
xXx
Ciel glanced up as a knock came to his door. He sighed and stood up from where he was sitting. The possessions he was taking with him had already been sent to his new home. All he had now was a small suitcase. He was dressed in gothic Victorian clothes, as the vampires tend to lean towards old fashioned clothes more than other creatures. It just suits them. He picked up his suitcase and opened the door.
The servant waiting in the hallway bowed. “The King calls you to the throne room, my Prince.”
The young vampire nodded and made his way through the castle halls one last time. He paused outside the large ornate doors and after a deep breath he walked in.
Standing in front of the platform that held the thrones were three figures. Vincent and Rachael were facing him, Rachael laughing lightly at something said. Vincent glanced to Ciel and gave a small smile.
The third person turned and locked eyes on the young vampire. Ciel refused to acknowledge the gasp that left his mouth. The first thing he noticed was skin even more elegant than his own. Snug black pants hugged long legs and a black silk button up shirt was tucked in. He had shiny dress shoes and Ciel caught the light of cufflinks. His eyes moved up to the elder being's face and he swallowed. Ruby eyes that held more intensity than any others, gazed at him with barely hidden amusement. Those sinful lips quirked into a smirk that said he knew Ciel liked what he saw.
“Ah. The young Prince Ciel. So nice you accepted.” His voice was all the erotic places in the night that caressed and promised.
But Ciel definitely did not care. He frowned and walked over. “No offense, but I had no choice. I am doing this for my people. No other reason.”
Rachael frowned. “Ciel. Don't be disrespectful.”
Sebastian chuckled, the sound rolling over Ciel and causing a shiver. “Do not fear, Lady Phantomhive. I find his honesty refreshing.” He walked over to Ciel and bowed. “I am Sebastian Michaelis, King of demons. I have been interested in you for a while.”
Ciel raised a brow at that. “Really? I never would have known.” He was rather intrigued that Sebastian seemed to consider his attitude adorable. He could see it in those ruby eyes. It caused him to become more annoyed.
Sebastian shrugged. “I've been busy for the past few decades. But now we have a chance to fix that.” He took Ciel's hand and kissed it.
Ciel blushed, jerking his hand free. “Don't do that. I am not a woman.” He walked past him and over to his parents. “Goodbye mother and father. I will keep in touch.”
Rachel placed a hand on his cheek. “Be good. Don't start problems.” She kissed his forehead before hugging him tightly.
Ciel turned to his father who pulled him into a silent hug. Before releasing him, Vincent spoke in Ciel's ear. “Maintain your honor. You are still a Prince of vampires. Whether you are mated or not. You are always a Prince and forever our son.” He finally pulled away.
Ciel nodded. He turned back to the demon and walked over. “I'm ready.”
Sebastian nodded with a charming smile. “Let's be on our way then, young Lord.” He offered his arm and just waited.
Ciel was not too happy about it but decided to be polite and take it. His eyes flashed at the smirk sent his way. “Tch. Very well Sebastian.” He walked with the man outside to where a sleek car was parked. Sebastian opened the door and helped Ciel in before climbing in next to him. The driver started the trip once the door was closed. The first few minutes were in silence.
Sebastian broke the quiet, “My home won't be as big as the castle you are used to and probably a bit more modern.”
Ciel grunted. “I'm used to modern things. I have…had my rooms updated more than the rest of the castle. Also, size does not matter to me.”
Sebastian got a gleam in his eyes. “I shall keep that in mind.”
Ciel gave him a glare and mumbled out, “Pervert.” He turned his gaze out the window.
The raven watched him before speaking once more. “Now onto a different topic. How much of demon culture and traditions do you know?”
Ciel frowned. “To be honest, not much. My studies haven’t gotten that far. And even then, I doubt it would have been too detailed.” His frown turned into a scowl at the sigh given. “It’s not like I expected to suddenly be a consort to the King of demons.”
Sebastian locked eyes with him, the glowing red full of intensity. “Not a consort. You will stand beside me as my mate. Nothing less.” He saw doubt fill sapphire eyes. The other truly didn’t know much of them. “Seeing as you are unknowing to the ways of the life that you now live, I will be your personal tutor.” He raised a hand when he sensed refusal. “Hush.” A rush went through him when the boy did as he was told. “Lesson one shall be on relationships. Considering we need to build ours, this is important.” He relaxed back. “Now, young Prince. Ask your questions. Just keep it on subject.”
Ciel gathered his thoughts. It was a good idea to learn as much as he could. He would be ashamed if he messed up this treaty due to ignorance. “What would be my title?” He figured this would be a good thing to know. He wanted to know just what people would be referring to him as. Ciel wouldn’t stand something disrespectful. At the raised eyebrow he added, “Is it simply ‘King’s Mate’?” That sounded like the other owned him, which was another thing he definitely wouldn’t stand for. And he refused to be called ‘Queen’.
The demon chuckled at the forwardness. “No it’s not. The mate of the current ruler is called the ‘Ember’.” Sensing the next question he continued. “The reason behind the name is because embers are subtle yet powerful. One minute they can be close to death and the other they are starting a new fire that destroys all. The strength behind a fire, is its embers.” It was a rather poetic way to look at it.
Ciel slowly nodded. Seems there was more to the demons than he originally thought. Their species were so different. Which brought him to the next question. “Will your people even accept me?”
Sebastian blinked. “What do you mean?”
Ciel rolled his eyes at that. “I’m a vampire. Will other demons have your viewpoint?”
A chuckle was the answer. “Demons are a bit more accepting to mix species mating than others. I’m sure they’ll just be happy I finally found someone.” He enjoyed Ciel’s blush that the boy was obviously trying to deny.
The vampire cleared his throat. “Yes, I guess that makes sense. So, why did you choose me? Obviously, you could have someone older.”
Michaelis hummed in thought. “I understand how you may think age was a factor. I can assure you it’s not.” He smiled. “As for why you. Your mind is sharp and your tongue even more so. I need someone like that to keep my own thoughts fresh.” His smile turned into a smirk. “Plus, you are very beautiful.”
Ciel blushed and grumbled. “Tch. That’s such a lame comment.”
Sebastian raised a brow. “Oh? Well then I shall rephrase my description.” He sat up straighter and cleared his throat. “To look upon you is to enjoy the pristine beauty of Winter, the eternal youth of Spring, the intense heat of Summer, and the gentle promise of Autumn. I shall treasure such a sight for as long as we are together. I give my word.”
Sapphire eyes widened and a bow mouth slightly opened. The blush still on the younger’s face deepened and spread. No one had ever spoken to him like that. It was so intense yet didn’t overstep any boundaries. And it sounded so sincere too. Aunt Anne’s words flashed through his mind.
He was quiet for a minute or two before softly saying, “Just…Just as long as you promise.” He looked away in embarrassment.
Sebastian chuckled. “Now. Back to the questions. What is your next one?” The demon kingdom was a ways off so they should be able to finish this lesson before arriving.
Ciel considered for a few seconds before saying, “What is my position?” When Sebastian raised a brow he explained, realizing the man wanted him to stay on topic. “In this relationship. What is my role?”
“You will keep my mind active and help ease the stresses of ruling.” Ciel gave him a look that caused him to sigh. “I keep to myself often as not many others hold my interest. But with you, I am looking forward to sharing my personal time and my life.”
The prince frowned. “So I suppose sex will be involved?” Sebastian raised a brow, making Ciel very annoyed that the demonic man wanted him to expound on everything. “That’s my next question.”
“Of course.” He saw the annoyed look turn to…nervous? “I am to understand you are virgin?”
Ciel glared with a full on blush. “Of course I am! I only recently reached maturity.” He crossed his arms. “And to speak of such things is-“
Sebastian cut him off. “Completely normal and appropriate between mates.” He sighed at the huff given. “Taking into account your innocence I will ease you into it.” A smirk slipped onto sinful lips. “We’ll call it another lesson.” He decided to move on before truly upsetting the other. While he did enjoy teasing and taunting him, he didn’t want to start this relationship with Ciel hating him. At least not too much, as he may have already crossed that line. “Next question.”
“Don’t you want children? Because that will obviously be a problem.” Ciel was suddenly a bit worried that Sebastian would have to impregnate some woman. The prince may have come into this unwillingly but now that he was in it, he was not going to let another enter the relationship.
But it seemed that luck was on his side. Sebastian shook his head. “I have no desire to reproduce. The throne of my kingdom is taken by power. So unless I step down, someone would have to defeat me. And if I did step down there would be a competition of sorts to determine who gets the throne. Either way I do not require an heir.” He raised a brow. “How about you? Don’t you wish to add to your clan’s name?”
Ciel didn’t really consider that. He had always just assumed that he’d have kids one day as a necessity for his family. Now, though, he didn’t need to do that. “I’ll leave that to my cousin.” His parents could also have another child if they need to, but he didn’t really like the thought of being replaced. He also decided to sneak in an off-topic question. “Will I be learning more about the process to become King?”
Red eyes gleamed a bit. “Curious, hm? That’s good. And yes we will be covering that. As well as a wide array of things that you will need to know as the Ember.” Sebastian checked his pocket watch. “We have time for one more question.”
“Will I be limited to feeding from you? I’ve never had demon blood.” Ciel was worried about this. Would the other force him to feed from a source he isn’t used to? That can make a vampire ill and their body tends to reject it. You need to ease them into a new blood type.
The demon got a thoughtful look. “What type do you usually drink?”
“Werewolf.” It was one of the most powerful because of the mix of human and wolf. Though werewolves were more complicated than that.
Sebastian smirked, seeming amused by that answer. “How interesting. Well there isn’t a werewolf at our home.” He sighed. “There is however a demon dog. I’m not fond of him but he is necessary for multiple reasons. Perhaps that will work.”
Ciel was shocked that Sebastian immediately tried to accommodate his feeding needs. He also noticed, and liked, the ‘our home’ comment. He nodded. “Perhaps feeding from the dog will help my system get used to demon blood.” He shrugged and looked away. “Then I can drink from you easier.”
The smirk turned to a genuine smile, his hand going over his heart. “I will be honored.” And he meant it.
The car slowed to a stop and after a few seconds the door was opened. Sebastian exited first and after making sure he was steadied, Ciel stepped out of the car and into his new life.
Chapter 2: The Garden

Chapter 2
The manor was large. Not as large as the Phantomhive castle but still large. It looked old and yet very well taken care of. He could definitely be comfortable here.
Standing in front of the large doors with a smile was what appeared to be an old man in a butler’s outfit. “Welcome back my Lord. And welcome, Ember.” He bowed. “I am Tanaka, head butler of this estate.”
Ciel raised a brow. “Not to be rude but why do you prefer that form? Certainly, a younger one would be more suitable.” He knew demons could alter their appearance so why choose an elderly form?
“Ho, ho, ho. Not rude at all my dear Sir. I prefer this form as it throws off any who wish my King and Ember harm. Simple as that.”
Sebastian walked up to the door which Tanaka opened. “Tanaka will be your private tutor on how to live here, Ciel.” He turned to look at the young vampire prince. “I myself will also help with your education on being an Ember.” His lips twitched into a slight smirk. “So there will be no reason for you to slack off.”
Ciel scowled and stood straighter. “Phantomhives never ‘slack off’. We work hard and succeed at everything we do.”
Sebastian smiled and nodded. “Wonderful attitude. We shall have to see if it holds up.”
“You’re annoying me on purpose aren’t you?”
That made the raven shrug. “Perhaps. You are rather cute when flustered and worked up like this.” His smile turned to a smirk.
Ciel blushed but his eyes began to glow. “Am not! You take that back right now Sebastian!”
Sebastian raised a brow. “And what will you do if I don’t?” Suddenly he moved closer to Ciel. “Or better yet. What will you do to entice me to stop?”
The blush faded and eyes narrowed. “Whatever you’re thinking, not that.”
Tanaka chuckled, making Ciel start. He’d forgotten the ‘old’ butler was there. “Ho, ho, ho. Just like a true Ember. You will fit perfectly here my young Lord.”
Sebastian led Ciel into the manor where he allowed a slight pause for Ciel to take it in. He then went further in to where two servants were standing. He went over to the male first. “This is Bardaroy, head of security here.”
Bardaroy grinned, a cigarette hanging from his lips. “Well yeah, but my real passion lies in cooking. Just call me Bard.”
Sebastian sighed. “Right. Anyway, continuing on.” He then stood in front of the maid. “And this is Mey Rin, she is the head maid.”
Mey Rin bowed. “Pleasure to meet you my Ember.”
Seems Ciel will have to get used to be addressed like that. Although…he did enjoy having a title that no one else had…
After a general tour of the manor they entered a long hall with a large door at the end. Sebastian led him to door a bit down and opened it. “And this is your own.” He stepped to the side to let the other in.
Ciel was surprised when shown this. He walked in and slowly looked at it. “I didn’t think I’d get one.” The room was rather bland but he supposed it made sense currently. No way to have known his tastes.
“Well I figured that suddenly being forced to share a bed with someone would not help you accept your new home.” He gave a teasing look that put Ciel on guard. “My room is down the hall in the Master bedroom. I will have decorators come tomorrow to get your specifications. But the basics are ready.” He chuckled. “Just know my bed is always open.”
That caused the younger to scowl but also blush. “Tch. Pervert.”
Sebastian smiled. “Now to show you the grounds. Please follow me.”
Ciel nodded and followed the other outside. He heard some of the history of the grounds and while it was indeed fascinating, Ciel found his eyes locked on a thin blond carrying a heavy statue. Ciel may be strong but he wasn’t that strong. Were all demons like that or just this one?
Sebastian looked over. “Ah. That is Finnian, the gardener and animal caretaker. He also helps with the demon dog, Pluto.”
Finnian finally noticed them and set the statue down before coming over. “Hello my young Lord! You must be our Ember.” He bowed with a cheerful grin. “So nice to meet you. Just call me Finny.”
Sebastian had a kind smile. Like one you would use on a child. “I would enjoy introducing Ciel to Pluto. We will be requiring his assistance in Ciel’s feeding.”
Finny nodded. “I’ll go get him. I think I saw him sleeping a bit further-.”
But before he could finish, the sound of crackling flames was heard before a NAKED man ran to Sebastian and clung to him whining.
The demon king sighed and while obviously not pleased he didn’t bother trying to correct the behavior. He did notice the snickers coming from his mate. “This is Pluto. He tends to shift to a man when he gets excited.”
Ciel smirked, eyes glowing slightly. “Yes I can see that.” Ah. This was definitely fun.
Sebastian finally forced Pluto to face Ciel. “How about you try to feed. Just to make sure it works.”
Ciel was making sure his gaze stayed firmly on Pluto’s face. “Well, I am hungry. I’ll use his wrist.” But when he stepped close the dog growled threateningly at him. So he scowled. “Mutt.”
Sebastian tightened his grip on the other and forced his hand out. “Now now, Pluto. Be good.”
Ciel cautiously took another step further but when he didn’t get a growl he took the wrist and sank his fangs in. He was aware of red eyes on him and felt Pluto go lax. Seems the calming effect from his venom works on demon dogs too. The taste was different from a werewolf but not unpleasant. It would definitely take some getting used to. When Ciel pulled back and swiped his tongue to close the bites he looked back to Sebastian. And froze.
The demon’s own gaze looked hungry but in a different way. “That was interesting to watch. I’ve never seen Pluto relax like that around strangers so easily.” He released the demon dog and watched as he turned back into his giant form, laid down, and went straight to sleep.
Ciel did a slow nod. “Vampire saliva has a temporary sedation effect. It’s to keep our food from fighting back.”
Sebastian raised a brow at the term. “And do you enjoy real food as well?”
Ciel shrugged. “Yes. I’m most partial to sweets and tea.”
Sebastian sighed. “Well, you will be expanding your diet then. You will not be eating only sweets. It is not healthy even for your kind.” When he sensed an argument, he raised a hand to stop the boy. “Enough of that.” He held out his hand. “Come. I believe we should walk through the gardens and share some things. It is best for us to know about each other after all.”
Ciel took the hand without fuss and allowed the King to bring him to the gardens. His eyes widened and he gave a slight gasp. “Whoa…this is beautiful.”
Sebastian chuckled. “You will have to let Finny know. He takes great pride in his plants.” He’s quiet for a few moments. “Whatever one asks, they must answer as well. Sound fair?”
Ciel gave it some though and decided it sounds more like a game that way. “Deal.” This might be a more interesting way to know someone. A good start. “Since I said what I eat, you should answer that.”
Sebastian nodded. “Good point. I also enjoy tea so we have that in common. As for food I prefer meat, mainly steaks.”
Ciel rolled his eyes at that. “Of course.” He moved on to next question. “What do you do to relax? If you don’t take on the company of others then you must have hobbies.”
“Reading is a joy of mine as is cooking.”
Ciel blinked and looked up at him. “Cooking? Really?” He frowned. “So is Bard really the chef or is there another?”
Sebastian sighs. “Bard wishes for the position but he has a tendency to blow things up in his cooking process. So we have another.”
“Will I be introduced to them? I figure as an Ember I’ll need to know the staff.” At least it sounded like something that he should do.
The demon king smiles. “Very true. But it is unnecessary for you to meet them. They are under Tanaka’s watch.”
Ciel frowned but dropped the subject. “As for my hobbies. I am a fan of reading as well but my favorite thing is chess and board games.”
“Considering your aversion to others as well, who did you used to play with?”
The vampire prince shrugged. “The servants, my father, and my aunt. I may not have enjoyed socializing outside the family but I was close to them.” He chuckled. “Mother wasn’t really a fan of chess but she did play other games with me.”
Sebastian kept his eyes on his mate. “Did you consider the servants family?”
Ciel’s response was immediate. “Yes. They were trusted with our safety and our health. Only family is trusted like that. As only family won’t betray.”
Sebastian definitely enjoyed that answer. “I see them the same here.” He paused in front of a beautiful rose bush when Ciel stopped to look at it. “We do have a chess board and I’m sure it’ll be easy to get board games. I have not played in a while due to being busy. But now I can practice with you.”
“You’re going to lose.” Ciel smirked and walked on.
Sebastian raised a brow but his lip twitched into his own smirk. ‘Sparks of passion to ignite the small fire. Will it remain lit or return to the burning coals from which it started?’ “I regret the wait. My question now.” He matches pace with him again. “Do you have dancing skills?”
The boy is quiet for a somewhat awkward bit of time. “…not really…” He was blushing now and trying to ignore that fact. “I was given lessons but I’m still not good at it.”
Sebastian took a moment to consider whether to tease or to help. He decides to help. “I am skilled at most formal dances. I will help you learn the proper ways. Everyone learns at their own pace in their own way. We merely need to find which way works best for you.” He can see Ciel relax just a little at that and knew he chose the right option. “your turn.”
Ciel nodded and stopped in front of a small pond with koi in it. “I still don’t get why you chose me.”
“That may be true but I’m afraid that question can only be answered by me, and not you. Therefore it must be asked at a different time.”
That caused him to frown and look at the elder. “I can say why I didn’t want it.”
Sebastian hummed in thought, picking up that this must be important. “True. Well, as I said before I enjoy your wit and how you stand up for yourself. I saw you at a gathering once. You stepped in front of a servant when they were about to have water dumped on them by an angry guest.” He watched Ciel’s eyes widen and figured he was remembering that. “To see you immediately putting yourself in the way to help…it showed me that in crisis, you will do what it takes to keep those close to you safe. And now that I know how you truly feel about your servants I understand why you did it.” He gave a soft smile. “Not many of my kind will do that. Even if it was just water.”
Ciel blushed but again refused to acknowledge it. “Ah…well I get it now. As for my answer. I don’t like my future being decided for me. I know that it will be, as is my position but that doesn’t mean I like it. I didn’t get a choice in this and it grates on my nerves a bit.” He shrugged. “But I suppose it isn’t all bad here.” A small smirk and a side glance was given. “The view is rather nice.”
Sebastian raised a brow. “Oh? Well I’m glad you enjoy my estate’s beauty then.” He didn’t miss the joke/hint given that the estate wasn’t what he was talking about. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, he speaks again. “I must admit that I have a meeting I must attend to. So I propose I show you the library. You can entertain yourself there while I’m gone.”
Ciel blinked but offered a smile. “That sounds nice. Thank you.” He didn’t even think twice about thanking him, knowing that technically Sebastian doesn’t actually have to see that he’s occupied.
Sebastian showed the way to the library and paused in the doorway. He took Ciel’s hand and gently kissed it. “Until later.” He watched with some amusement as Ciel’s cheeks blush again and he quickly goes into the library.
When Ciel turned and actually looked at the library, he gasped at the size. “So many books…” And so he began to search for the perfect book to start with. Definitely won’t be so bad here.
Chapter 3: The Michaelis Household
Chapter Text
A few hours later, Ciel was brought out of the library by an amazing scent. He followed it to the kitchen and paused. Sebastian seemed to be finishing up making dinner. Ciel looked around the kitchen but saw no one that could have helped. “I guess you really do like cooking.”
Sebastian chuckled and finished the last dish. “I said I do. Please sit down. I was going to send Tanaka to gather you soon.”
Ciel nodded and took a seat at the kitchen table. Even though it isn’t a formal table it’s still nice. Actually, kind of cozy. Definitely different than with his parents. His eyes moved over the food. “I’m thinking maybe we just didn’t have a skilled chef.” Which made sense considering most vampires don’t eat much actual food.
“By the way. While you were in the library, your belongings were brought to your room. You can arrange it how you wish after we eat.” Sebastian began to plate the food as well as getting some tea going. “Before you ask, they weren’t brought there earlier as a precaution. There was always the chance that you would demand another room or something of that nature.”
Ciel nodded again. “Guess that makes sense. Thank you.” Wow. Everything looked and smelled fantastic! And when the tea was poured it must be a personalized blend as Ciel didn’t recognize it. And he prided himself on knowing tea scents.
He picked up the cup and took a deep sip. He sighed as contentment filled him. “This is the best tea I have ever had.” No point in lying to him. They were mated and lies had no place in relationships.
Sebastian was smiling at that. “I’m glad it pleases you.” He sat down and took a sip of his own tea. “Now, let’s continue to get to know each other.”
Ciel nodded and took a bite of the fish. “Well, who were you meeting with?”
Sebastian chuckled. “Not quite what I meant but I will still answer. I had the displeasure of meeting with one of our allies.”
Ciel frowned. “Displeasure?”
Sebastian nodded with a weary sigh. “I’m not fond of them but it’s easier to ensure peace than to risk fighting. Luckily they sent the more tolerable one.”
Ciel nodded slowly. “So, who are they?”
“The Grim Reapers. One day you will interact with them but not for a while. That might literally end up in war.” The finality of it was clear. And rather ominous.
Ciel made a face before he took another bite. “I agree with that. Father never showed interest in dealing with them. Vampires and Reapers have a ‘don’t mess with me, I won’t mess with you’ policy.”
Sebastian took a slow sip. “One of their agents has a crush on me.” He made a face. “More like an obsession actually. He will not take the news of the mating lightly. William agreed not to tell him as it may cause overtime. I will allow Grell to find out on his own.” He smirked at that.
Ciel raised a brow. “Won’t that cause even more harm? If he’s as crazy obsessive as you say then he might do something to try to stop this.”
Sebastian watched Ciel for a few moments. “If the Shinigami wish to wage war over me taking a mate, then we will crush them.” His voice was steady and his tone sure. His eyes glowed softly at the thought of violence brought about in the name of his mate. Demons did enjoy violence that had a purpose. They used to love every kind until Sebastian took over and made a few changes that had a huge effect on everyone.
Ciel’s eyes widened and the piece of food fell off his fork. Sebastian would wage war…for him? And he was absolutely confident they’d win. He did a quiet nod before continuing to eat. They had only just met and already Sebastian was proving Ciel’s previous thoughts wrong. He was more than loyal. He was on a whole different level. Were all demons like this or was it merely Sebastian? Ciel secretly hoped he was the only one to receive this intense attention.
It’s hard to know how to respond to something like that. “Will there eventually be some kind of ceremony? You know, so the other demons know about me?” He was focusing on his food now to keep any embarrassment down.
Sebastian chuckled. “Not so much a ceremony. I will make an announcement with you present. If you want you may say a few words. Then that will be that. News will spread and soon it’ll be a known fact.”
Ciel looked up, eyes slightly cautious still. “And then we’ll have to deal with this Grell I assume.”
Sebastian shrugged. “Perhaps. But as I stated, his ridiculous obsession means nothing to me. And his superiors know it.” Meaning if they can’t reel Grell in, they are simply pathetic.
Ciel nodded and was quiet for a few minutes. “So…what will be my daily obligations?” He decided it was time to change the subject.
“In the mornings you will go over the status report from Tanaka on all the staff. You will be in charge of them.” He waited for a nod before continuing. “The majority of your time will involve studying demon life and training from Tanaka on being an Ember. The time that you are not occupied, you will be with me.”
Ciel considered it all and nodded again. “That makes sense. Will I have free time?” While he didn’t mind this, he would like time to himself. Everyone needs alone time.
Sebastian smiled. “Of course. If you ever need time for yourself, simply tell me and I will do what I can to oblige.” When the meal finished, Sebastian put the dishes in the sink before turning to Ciel. “How about we stroll through the gardens? I would love to simply learn more about you as a person. I will reciprocate what you wish.”
Ciel rolled his eyes. “You talk so old fashioned. It’s really…” He paused as he thought of the correct word. He didn’t want to insult the other. “Interesting.” He was rather surprised at the fact he didn’t want to insult him. Sure he never truly mouthed off when at his parents’ home, but he didn’t have a problem with speaking his mind in situations like this.
Sebastian chuckled and nodded at the answer. “I suppose to some it is. But it is still how I talk and I see no point in changing that. So, may I assume that is a yes?”
Ciel nodded and took the offered arm. Soon they were in the garden and Ciel was almost overwhelmed by it. He’ll have to tell Finny what an amazing job he does. After a few more minutes of walking, he got his chance when he saw Finny tending some rose bushes. “Finny.”
The blond looked up and when he saw them he grinned, wiped off his hands on his pants, and came over. “My King. My Ember. How may I be of assistance?”
Ciel found his optimistic energy rather refreshing. Different than Lizzy’s which was overwhelming and annoying. “I want to tell you that you’re doing an amazing job with the plants. It’s better than even at my old home.” He then got worried when he saw tears fill the demon’s eyes. “Uh…”
Finny’s smile was watery. “Thank you, Ember! I work really hard at it and I’ll keep working hard!” He even saluted.
Sebastian had a look of mild amusement so Ciel figured this was normal behavior of the gardener. “We know you will. You may return to your work.” Finny bowed and went back to it. Ciel looked to Sebastian. “So, what’s his story?” He had a feeling that everyone here had some kind of story. And Ciel wanted to know them all. After all, it’ll help with his duties no doubt.
Sebastian watched the gardener. “Finny was a demon snatched by hunters and forced to fight other demons. They used drugs to control him.” His eyes glowed softly and the aura surrounding him was a bit darker. “I personally ended the fight rings and found Finny to be the only one redeemable. I gave him the task of gardener as he wasn’t allowed outside before.”
Ciel nodded. “It also seems to bring him peace.” He doubted the other had that before given this life. “Finny handles Pluto. Correct?”
The raven nodded an affirmative as they began to walk again. “Yes. He and I are the only ones strong enough to control him.”
Blue eyes moved over the beautiful flowers and topiary. “So, where did Pluto come from?”
“Pluto was a gift given to me about 100 years ago.” He sighed as if a trying memory came to him. Before Ciel could ask he added, “And I will not say from whom. At least not yet.” He had a teasing look which made the younger think that he was merely…well teasing him.
And even though it annoyed him a little he brushed it off. He can play this game too. He did love games after all. “So why didn’t you just refuse the gift. You obviously don’t like dogs.” Was it because he once had feelings for this person? Ciel felt a sudden shot of jealousy at that thought. It caught him slightly off guard but he tried to hide it.
Sebastian did notice but didn’t let on. He actually enjoyed knowing his mate was already possessive over him. It was a trait that demons enjoyed and most had naturally. Perhaps vampires do as well. “That would have been rude. Pluto also has his uses that makes getting rid of him a nuisance.”
Ciel raised a brow. “And what are those?” The conversation was flowing smoothly and it was peaceful. This was nothing like what he thought being mated to a demon would be.
“For one he activates the protective seal while I am away. He is also a stabilizer for so much power in one area.”
That got a look of confusion. “Stabilizer? What does that mean?” Would he learn more about it in his lessons with Tanaka?
Sebastian chuckled. “When there is too much power consistently in one place, it can cause disturbances.” He obviously anticipated the next question. “A transformation occurs that I greatly wish to avoid. You will learn more in your lessons.” Which means a change of subject. He lead Ciel to a large rose maze. “Shall we?”
Ciel rolled his eyes but smiled. “Very well. If only to amuse you.”
This made the demon King chuckle and place a hand over his heart with a nod of his head. “I am honored.”
They walked for a good few minutes before Ciel asked, “So if Finnian was once a ring fighter and Pluto is a gift from some mysterious person, what about Mei Rin and Bardaroy?”
Sebastian’s smile shows he’s glad at his Ember’s interest. “Mei Rin was originally an assassin sent to kill me, but I gave her a second option after subduing her rather easily.” He frowned. “I figured that the opponent who hired her was either an idiot or they merely wanted to inconvenience me.” He then gave a shrug. “Possibly both.”
Ciel nodded. “And Bard?”
Sebastian sighed, a somewhat sad look gracing his face. “Bard was originally in the last demonic war. When it was over, he was surrounded by nothing but death. As I was there to see how many of our side survived, I happened to notice him kneeling amongst the bodies.” His red eyes moved to Ciel. “So I offered him a different life.”
Ciel was noticing a pattern. “So what was the last war about?” He frowned at the hesitation. “I really should know about this as the Ember.” He figured that was true but there was no guarantee he’d learn about it from Sebastian.
Sebastian paused in walking. “I will tell you at some other point. Now is not the time.”
Ciel thought about it and nodded. “As long as you promise.”
Sebastian put a hand over his heart and bowed fully. “Yes, my Ember.”
This made the bluenette cough and look away to deny the blush. “Good.”
They continued talking but about more personal stuff now. Ciel’s life with his parents and the antics of Sebastian’s manor. Many times Ciel laughed at the trouble he went through. Seems he has a lot of work to do to keep everyone from causing chaos. By the time they got out of the maze, Ciel felt he would do well with another feeding.
Sebastian raised a brow. “How often do you usually feed.” He’s only really been around adult vampires after all.
Ciel shrugged. “Well, you can consider this part of my life like a growth spurt. Vampires my age feed often and burn energy fast. The more we practice balancing the two the stronger we get. Kind of like nature’s way of teaching us how to survive.”
“Fascinating. I was not aware of that.” The raven smiled. “Seems we both still have much to learn about each other’s kind.”
“I am looking forward to it, Sebastian.” Ciel then reciprocated with his own smile. Sebastian whistled and soon Pluto came bounding over. With a greeting much like before the demon dog finally looked to Ciel. He seemed to have a mix of annoyance and wary. Probably remembering the last feeding. He frowned fully when Sebastian moved his wrist further towards the young vampire.
Ciel decided not to give Pluto time to think about it, and possibly struggle or something. He fed fast and watched as Pluto again went to take a nap. “The taste is growing on me, I guess.” It definitely was powerful with a slight spice to it. Intriguing. Also that fast feeding gave him a bit of a rush. He actually felt a bit hyper suddenly.
Sebastian felt the rise in energy. “Do you play any sports or do physical activities?”
Ciel shrugged. “Well…not really. I prefer books and solitude.” He looked around curiously. “Why? Do you have something in mind?”
The demon nodded. “Yes. I believe you need to release some of this energy before relaxing. Perhaps with a book again or unpacking your room.”
The boy considered it. “Well. I will accept your offer if you assist me in unpacking.”
Sebastian gave a soft smile. “I will be delighted. So for our activity, I suggest we play football. I have a ball and we can use shrubbery as goals. If you wish to keep points that is.” There was a hint of a challenge in his voice.
Ciel’s eyes narrowed but his lips turned to a smirk. “Oh I’m going to definitely win.” He also found it amusing that the demon king had a ball. “Do you play often?”
Sebastian shrugged and made his way over to a bin. He opened and rummaged through it before pulling out a ball. “It is a way to release energy, practice strategy, and bond with the servants. Tight bonds means loyalty.” He came over with it. “Have you played before?”
Ciel glanced away for a second. “Well, not really. I know how it works but I’ve never actually tried it before. No one to do it with. My cousin Elizabeth isn’t into sports and running. Just into dresses and parties.”
Sebastian blinked. “You had no one else?” He felt a shot of sadness, which would normally be strange. But he already knew that what he felt for Ciel was anything but ‘normal’. It was an intense feeling that made him want to protect the very capable vampire prince. He will need to be careful not to accidentally insult Ciel. One wrong move can cause a helpful action to backfire. “We will have to work on it then. I will enjoy teaching you and helping you to build your physical form.”
Ciel raised a brow but gave a smirk. “Demons really are intense and loyal. My aunt was definitely correct about that.”
Sebastian bowed. “Ah. How delightful. Thank you for the compliment, my Lord.” The afternoon was spent learning the intricacies of football. Sebastian watched how Ciel was bent over and breathing heavily. “Will you be fine?”
Ciel finally managed to straighten up. “Yeah. Just haven’t run around that much in a really long time.” He saw the look and rolled his eyes. “Okay. I’ve never run around that much. But so what? I still won.” It was true. Ciel had gotten in the very last goal and beat Sebastian 15-14. So really close, but the Phantomhive still took great pleasure in knowing he’s the one that actually came out on top.
Sebastian chuckled. “Well. How about you take a soothing bath and then we can unpack your room.” He calmly walked inside with the young vampire next to him. “I can draw you one before doing some work that has come up. Merely come to my office when ready and I will join you.”
Ciel nodded. “Thank you.” Perhaps it was the mate thing that made Sebastian want to do it, but Ciel was loathe to admit that he was actually not that skilled at drawing the most comfortable bath. He always put in too much of something or the water was the wrong temperature. Probably just because he’s so picky. Oh well, can’t change what he is.
By time Ciel got to the bathroom the bath was drawn, ready, and steaming. He can smell some nice oils and smiles at the nice touch. After stripping he gets in and relaxes almost immediately. He isn’t sure how long he stayed in before finally getting out. Once dressed in the clothes he brought in, he went to Sebastian’s office and knocked
Sebastian’s voice flowed out. “Very well.” He soon opened the door and joined Ciel in the hallway. He closed it behind him and smiled. “Pleasant bath?” Once given a nod he began walking. “Let’s go to your room then.” They made their way to the bedroom and start to unpack.
Note: Hello sweeties. So hope you enjoyed this new chapter. The next chapter is when we get into being an Ember and what it really takes. Leave me some chatter!
