Chapter Text

Notorious pirate crew hailing from the North Blue, the Heart Pirates. Their name might be taken as a joke when they started but now, no one would dare even try and ridicule it. Their captain after all, Trafalgar Law is known for his sadistic acts and psychotic practices that leaves other pirate crews running with their tails between their legs at the sight of his bright yellow submarine in fear of being part of his next batch of macabre of body parts for his experiments like the mad doctor he is. Earning him the title ‘Surgeon of Death’ as he hold both life and death in his hands.

Well at least that’s what the marines want him to be viewed as and he won’t correct them because it always brings a feeling of satisfaction when rival captains cower before him. And it’s not like they were wrong... just greatly exaggerated.

Although, one thing that the marines have always missed, god knows how, is that Trafalgar Law, captain of the Heart Pirates, is Selectively mute.

If you ask any of his crewmates, for all the years they’ve been sailing together, they could count on all fingers and toes the number of times they’ve heard their captain spoke outside of surgeries. The only ones who have ever held a solid conversation with Law was Penguin, Shachi and Bepo, but even that was years ago.

New members would always ask about it but everyone just tell them to not worry about it. That’s just how the captain is and there’s really nothing they can do about it.

The one thing they can do for their captain is to at least learn the basic GSL (Grandline Sign Language) or even the NSL (Northern Sign Language). They do classes on it with Shachi and Penguin being the teachers at different days of the week. Although, they go to their captain for corrections because among them, he’s the most knowledgeable about it.

They all relish on the moments that the captain teach them sign language or anything about medicine because those are the times when Law is the most expressive. He doesn’t sign words of praises, it’s between a thumbs up for ‘pass’, a pat on a shoulder for ‘nice’, a pat on the back for ‘you can do better than that', and everyone’s favourite, a pat on the head for ‘good job’.

They have an on going competition whoever get more head pats in a year when it comes to classes. Bepo , Shachi and Penguin are not included because they already know how. So far Ikakku’s on the lead and she’s gloating about it every moment she can.

Aside from those gestures, there are some that they rarely see the captain do. Hugs are one of them and Law only gives them to convey one message

‘I’m glad you’re alright’

The first time it happened was after a bad run-in with the marines. They were just ambushed 2 days ago and some of them are still banged up and recovering in the infirmary. Among them are two of their main fighters, Penguin and Bepo who decided that they need to help on fighting off the government dogs. Overall ignoring Law’s orders of bed rest. They appeared out on deck and when Law noticed them, he lost his usual composure and dare they say showed panic for the first time since they met him. He made quick work of the captain leading the charge of the marines.

When the battle is over and they’ve fully submerged to the safety of the sea once again, they all watched as Law stomped towards the two stubborn idiots and instead of shambling them to the infirmary, he pulled them both in a hug.

It was brief but they all saw it. No matter how bizarre it was, they all understood it as his form of showing his worry.

It only happened like 4 of 5 more times during their journey.

Aside from hugs, there’s one thing the Law only did twice and the fact that it wasn’t towards any one from the crew got them all jealous at a little girl they encountered at one of the island they stopped for supplies.

It was a rather peaceful day and they’ll be damned if they didn’t take advantage of it. After all, the weather on Grandline is just plain crazy and unpredictable. Although it doesn’t really matter because they dive deep under, but when they resurface, it’s better when the weather’s clear.

Once docked, they split into teams to who handles what. Law snags Shachi, Uni and Clione, the four of them responsible for restocking their medical supplies and dragging the captain away from the book store if he stayed too long on it. Bepo is the one in charge of guarding the ship while the engineers check the Polar Tang for any problems. The rest are split up by Penguin who led the food supplies restocking and Ikakku for other necessities.

According to some local, they have to stay on the island for 5 days until the log pose has set so that leaves them plenty of time for leisure. Later that day, they check what else is needed and once everything has been set, a plan has been made who stays on the sub tomorrow because they can’t just all leave her alone defenceless and vulnerable to greedy asshole who might think they have a chance of even getting close to their submarine.

The next day is pretty much for leisure so everyone dragged their captain outside and was close to throwing him off the ship just to have fun. Ikakku, Bepo, Penguin and Uni joined their captain on the journey towards the book store. They spent about an hour browsing through the hard bound books lined up neatly on the shelves.

They were on their way back to the sub when they saw something unpleasant.

It was a guy crouched down to the level of a little girl. There’s one more standing beside him and Law could sense more inside the alleyway. They’re trying to lure and abduct a kid.1

Now look here

Law isn’t the nicest pirate out there but he has his morals and this one is going way against it

They continued watching from a considerable distance until the guy grabbed the little girl by the arm and she started to cry out loud but the man covered her mouth as he lifted her off the ground.

That’s when Law decided to open a room and shamble himself behind the two guys, giving them both a good hard chop on the side of their necks, rendering them unconscious in a second. He shambled the kid to his arms before she fell along with the guy. The girl looked up at him with tears on her eyes, and damn if it didn’t remind him of his own little sister coming to him because of a nightmare when their parents are at the hospital.

The little girl looks close to crying again so he did what he does to Lami. He smiled at her and pulled her in a hug. He patted her head as the girl clung to him, sniffling as she buried her face on his shoulder.

That’s when the other four decided to quietly approach them. Ikakku even giving the two men on the ground a good kick or two. They were about to ask Law what they’ll do with the scumbags but they all felt their heart stop when Law suddenly, kissed the girl atop of her head as the captain smooths down her hair. He leaned down closer to the girl’s head and the three of them right there, right at that moment, they could’ve sworn they heard a murmur of an unfamiliar voice.

Law looked and nodded at them, cocking his head towards the alleyway. Getting the message clearly, Ikakku, Uni and Penguin stalked towards the alley to dispose of the other guys, that are more than likely slavers, before they could get away.

Bepo who was holding the books the captain purchased closed the gap towards Law. “Captain.” He spoke up.

The little girl flinched at the sound and slowly turned around to look at the newcomer. Fear on her eyes that she might get taken away from the nice man who saved her, but instead of a scary guy, she found a huge white polar bear in front of her.

When Penguin, Ikakku and Uni came back, they found the little girl sitting on Law’s shoulder as she giggled while reaching for Bepo.

They brought the little girl to the sub who joined them for lunch. She introduced herself as Shana and in turn they introduced themselves. The crew was more than happy to tell her stories and give her a tour of the sub. By noon the crew protested when the captain signed that it’s time to bring her back. The girl was also disappointed when they told her it’s time to go back. The crew fell silent when Law suddenly spoke up.

“We’ll be here. 3 more days.” He said, reassuring the girl who smiled widely.

Ikakku was tasked to get the girl home, in civilian clothes so they don’t get misunderstood.

and No questions asked, the crew threw a party that night, just because the captain spoke.

For the next three days, the little girl visited them and they even met the girl’s mother, Naja. For some reason they didn’t know them so when introduction came, Law only signed that he’s a doctor and the rest is his team to avoid unnecessary panic.

At the fourth day, they spent the morning on last minute checks preparation for submerging. They decided to go after lunch. As expected little Shana sneaked out to see them off. She looked so sad to watch them go on board. Law signed to Woolly to get ready. The masked man gave a half assed salute and an ‘Aye Captain!’. He waved at Shana and said goodbye before going inside.

They all said their farewells to the little girl until only the captain was left. Half of them already went inside to take their places and the rest just wants to see how the captain will handle the kid.

And they weren’t disappointed

Law who still haven’t boarded along with Bepo who holds his sword, crouched down to the girl’s level and opened his arms which Shana took that as queue to give the man a hug.

They all watched from the deck of Polar Tang the interaction between the two. Law then let the girl go and ruffled her hair before giving her a kiss a top her head for the second time that week. Law then stood up and shambled him and Bepo to the deck. They waved at the little girl before one by one going inside the Tang so they can finally dive.

It was quiet as they submerged, only the sound of the machine working can be heard.

“My sister, she was Shana’s age. Reminds me of her...”

Law dropped that before retiring to his quarters.

The sub was filled with silence the rest of the day and no one even tried dragging the captain for dinner, just left the food on a trolley outside his room after knocking trice.

He had one of the most peaceful sleeps in a long time that night.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Shana stayed on there until she couldn’t see the submarine. She came back to her house right after, jumping to her mother’s arms as soon as she got there.

“Shana, there’s something I saw while at the market earlier.” Her mother said as she carried her inside living room. She was put down on a chair and was given a rolled up paper. She looked at it curiously and unrolled it. She gasped at the picture that welcomed her. It was Law-san!

How...

Then she looked at the whole paper. “Wa...nted? What’s that?”

That’s when she found out that the nice people who have been playing with her is a pirate crew. She read everything on that poster and instead of being scared, she was disappointed. Everything here except for the doctor part is wrong! Its like reading about a description with the wrong name and picture, because Law-san is one of the nicest guy she ever met!

Nonetheless, she kept that poster in her room. Her mom who have taken a liking to that crew always show her the news of there was any about the ‘Heart Pirates’.

Months have passed and then the Paramount War happened. They only got news about it when it was all over. The marines won and the son of the Pirate King is dead. Although, no matter how much information that was written on the paper, there was a piece of information that caught their attention more than the victory of justice.

A rookie pirate named Monkey D. Luffy who joined the war to save Gold Roger’s son was saved by another rookie pirate, Trafalgar Law. They escaped by a bright yellow submarine that the marines tried to sink. Nothing have been heard about them since then.

She wasn’t sure if should she tell Shana about it or not, but at the persistence of her daughter about any news, she caved and told her everything.

The little girl was saddened and shocked but after a few minutes she composed herself and with confidence stated that ‘Law-san is strong! He’ll be fine and he’s a great doctor!’

When the news came about Straw Hat Luffy returning to Marineford to give respect to his sworn brother’s death and his captain Whitebeard, her daughter whooped in joy.

A few days later she saw her daughter reading a book in her room. When she looked at it, she’s surprised that it wasn’t a story book. It was a book about the human body.

“Where did you get that?”

“Law-san gave it to me!”

She smiled. “That’s really nice of him.”

“I want to be a doctor! Like Law-san! He can save anybody!”

Naja was surprised about that, but nonetheless it was a good choice of profession. She just never thought that a pirate, of all people, would inspire her daughter to take that route.

“Oh and Ma! Do you think there are books about... what was it..?” She mulled over before remembering. “Ah! Sign language! That’s what Bepo-san called it!”

“Why?”

Shana smiled. “Because Law-san doesn’t talk.”

Silent and the Loud Ones

For some odd reason, ever since the mess that is Punk Hazard, and ever since their ally Trafalgar Law boarded the Sunny, it became a bragging right to whoever gets to have a one on one “Torao Experience”. Look, they’ve all agreed that they can’t make the other captain talk whatever they do so any attempts would be futile anyway. But the silence that Torao brought to the ship is new and refreshing compared to the crew’s loudness.

So much that they all silently, collectively agreed that they have to get at least a full sentence out of the surgeon.

So far, the only ones who have heard Law was Luffy and Nami since apparently, Torao’s forced to talk because the two of them can’t understand sign when he first proposed the alliance.

The first day, nothing really happened other than Torao signing and Robin translating the plan out to them. After that they went about their own things. At least Robin, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Brook did. Luffy pulled Torao to give him a tour around the ship with Usopp and Chopper tailing behind. Franky also with them as the proud Shipwright tour guide.

To be honest, only Franky is really showcasing the ship. Well, Usopp throws in his bit here and there but most of the time he’s with Luffy and Chopper on saying ‘cool’ and ‘awesome’ to everything.

But throughout everything, the other captain was quiet, nodding his head to show that he’s listening and even pointing at things he found interesting. Although, Franky felt challenged when he didn’t see any kind of excitement in Torao’s expression. Just understanding.

Not even the Aquarium amazed him!

But that changed when they got to showing the Shark Submerge. Drastic change dare he say.

The moment Franky showed it, Torao’s eyes widen and a smile pulled on his lips. That took the four of them aback. Franky’s spiel stopped and the other three went quiet as the Heart captain stepped close to the mini sub.

After about a minute of the surgeon circling around it, he turned back to the four of them.

They all held back their breath as the man opened and closed his mouth. He pursed his lips then... “Can I..?” The words that came out of him.

And who are they to turn him down?

They opened the dock and got the sub down on the water to let him inside and before Franky could say the instructions, Torao already flicked, pushed and pull all the right switches and buttons to start the Sub.

They all watched as it submerged and waited for a few minutes before it resurfaced again.

They closed the dock once again and placed the sub back. Also, Torao looked so satisfied.

Franky went on and on again about the sub that the other captain liked when suddenly Torao stopped in front of him.

He only smiled and gestured him to lean down. “What’s the matter Tra-br-?” before he could finish his sentence, Torao placed his hand on top of his hair and patted him.

He pulled his hand back down after a few pats and started walking out of the room.

They all stared where he disappeared to before Luffy yelled for Torao to get back there and pat him too.

-=-=-=-=-=-

That kind of started everything because the other Strawhats couldn’t believe what they said.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Later that day, Robin sat beside Nami on the mast.

“I thought you’re going to the library?”

The raven head woman chuckled. “I’m afraid the doctors on board already took residence in there. I might wake them up if I stay longer than necessary.” She said, omitting the fact that their little doctor is sleeping on Torao- lap with the surgeon hugging him as if he’s a stuffed animal. “It appears that our ally is fond of fluffy things.”

“Now that you mentioned it, doesn’t he have a polar bear on his crew?”

-=-=-=-=-=-

When Chopper told them about waking up with his head on the surgeon’s lap while Torao holding a book in one hand and the other on the reindeer’s head, Luffy whined on not getting to be there while the others looked so bewildered except for Robin.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The next one who had an unusual experience with the surgeon is surprisingly Zoro.

Kikoku, compared to its owner is way noisier. Zoro didn’t notice it at first with all the chaos that is Punk Hazard, but once they boarded the Sunny, he zeroed in on the nodachi of the other captain. He can sense that it’s cursed and he felt intrigued by it because it’s not the same with Sandai Kitetsu. Quite similar yet still different.

During their journey, one thing he discovered is that the nodachi only likes Torao. Its noisy. Way too noisier than the silent surgeon.

But it settles down when Torao picks it up.

....

It’s late at night and Zoro was gonna do some lifting before bed. He’s at the top when he heard humming then it suddenly stopped. He pulled himself up and there, sitting at the bench is Torao cleaning his blade.

Zoro just nodded at him before picking up some weights and did his lifting with his back facing the surgeon.

After a few minutes, the sword is screeching annoyingly which only stopped when the humming started again.

He didn’t question it despite being curious because he thought that the surgeon is mute. He put down the weights and called it a day. It feels like intruding.

He left quietly

-=-=-=-=-=-

Once again, Luffy threw a tantrum when Zoro mentioned it and later whined about want to have a Torao Experience.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Well, they weren’t prepared for the sudden outburst by Torao the next day when the man suddenly, out of nowhere shouts “I HATE BREAD!” when they were talking about the sandwiches for breakfast. They all stopped in their tracks and even Ceasar’s eyes widen at that. It was the gas man’s first time hearing Law’s voice and the surgeon was at Punk Hazard for about a year!

Luffy came running back down, wrapping a hand around his shoulders before swinging to his back. Grabbing on the other shoulder so he could be on Torao’s back. “Oi Torao! You have a good voice! Talk again!”

That only got him a glare. The surgeon opened up a room and switched Luffy and Chopper. He then started walking up the stairs towards the galley. The rest followed and each took a sit around the table for the said breakfast. Law was handed a plate of onigiri a few minutes after.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The plan is explained but that being said, Luffy fought in the coliseum to win Ace’s Mera Mera no mi because there’s no way he’s let anyone get it. He’s aware that he’s diverting from the plan but it didn’t prepared him for the front view seat of Torao being shot point blank by Mingo.

-=-=-=-=-=-

When Luffy finally reached Torao with the keys to his cuffs, the man looks so beat up. He tried moving his hands again but since he can’t do his ninja signs properly he groaned out in frustration and Luffy held his breath as he opened his mouth. “Go....away...alliance is done.....free me.....and I’ll kill you!”

Yes Torao spoke but this isn’t the Torao Experience Luffy was looking for!

Later when they all fell down and Mingo started doing something again, Luffy heard a chocked out sound coming from Torao so he looked down at the surgeon lying on his back. The look of terror on his eyes are enough to make Luffy taken aback as he heard his shaky voice mutter out the word “....birdcage...”

His anger towards the bird guy sky rocketed when Torao told in whispers heard only by the two of them that Mingo killed his own biological young brother. His own blood brother.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The fight is over, Doflamingo has been defeated and Dressrosa is once again free. The heroes of the country was led to a small house on top of the hill to rest and heal. Luckily Law had rested enough to take care of their injured group as the doctor he prides himself to be. Although he can’t do anything using to fasten the healing process since he won’t be using his devil fruit anytime soon. Mansherry’s healing doesn’t do that job completely after all.

They placed Luffy on the bed wrapped in bandages all over. Law sat at the edge of the bed with a chair in front of him. He signalled for one to come sit but no one voluntarily did so he just gestured for Usopp. No strength to argue, he just sat down quietly and let the doctor handle it.

When Law finished him, surprisingly quick and gentle like Chopper does, he was about to stand up but a hand suddenly fell on his head. It was Law’s. Usopp looked at the man’s face to ask if there’s something wrong but to his surprise, he’s smiling and started patting his head.

At that point, every single one person on that room is watching the scene. All in both awe and shock how genuine the smile is on the surgeon’s face. It wasn’t the typical smirk of Law, it was an actual but small smile.

It felt like seeing another side of him that they didn’t know existed.

Usopp left the chair grinning to himself, feeling as if he was just praised.

After that they lined up.

When everyone else is done except for Zoro, everyone has a mile or grin on their faces.

When Zoro was about to get his dose of headpat, he said, “You don’t have to do that on m-”

He was cut off by Law who placed a hand on his head. “I want to....just let me....” He muttered, low enough for only then to hear.

-=-=-=-=-=-

After that, the strawhats and Kinnemon who have been with Law for some time now, since punk hazard, they’ve noticed a change with the surgeon. Unlike when they were back in punk hazard and the journey towards Dressrosa, he seems more open now. It’s like something big was lifted off his shoulder and now they’re truly seeing Trafalgar Law.

He’s still quiet as ever but he’s speaking more often and not the spontaneous way he does.

Well he still does that, taking everyone by surprise when he suddenly came running towards them out of nowhere as they are facing Fujitora. Note that no one there have heard him speak other than the Strawhats, the samurais and Cavendish since he was the one with Robin when Law begged him to leave him up the plateau to watch Luffy and Doflamingo’s fight.

“HEY GUYS!” They all turned towards the unknown voice and there came Law running towards them. He stopped in front them and pointed towards their exit path. “Wherever you are...Were all at risk..! Go to the port and set sail!!”

The one who responded was Cavendish who wasn’t too surprised by the outburst but more irritated that he just up and disappeared without notifying anyone. “Where were you Trafalgar!?!?” Exclaimed by the blonde which snapped out the others. Sai ordered for the others to go on and run for the port.

Luffy came in running in a second

-=-=-=-=-=-

They managed to escape Fujitora, have a banquet and somehow got a fleet as a bonus. Right now, they are on Bartolomeo’s ship heading towards Zou.

Rooster head just finished showing them bounties. Now they’re finding things to do to past time. Robin’s reading the newspaper, Usopp and Franky are getting a tour around the boat, Zoro’s napping and the samurais are talking to themselves.

Luffy managed to find Law who found the infirmary and decided to stay there and read with whatever book they have in store. He hung himself behind the surgeon, peeking from behind him. “What are you doing Torao?”

A flip of a page then a sigh. “Reading.”

“Ne, you’ve been talking a lot more! Why don’t you just talk every time? Wouldn’t that be easier?” He asked, poking at the back of his head, well, his hat to be exact.

Torao cloaked his tongue and swatted at his hand before standing up. He turned around to face him. “its complicated.”

“Then explain it simply!”

The latter just groaned in return. He looked irritated then his eyes went down to his bandages. He further frowned so Luffy looked down at his bandages too. “This? Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt anymore! I’m fully healed!” He said but the frown didn’t leave Torao’s face.

Torao then rounded the ok infirmary bed separating the two of them and stopped in front of Luffy. He tilted his head to the side. “Hmm? What is it To-??”

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Torao pulled him to a hug. He doesn’t know why but Luffy hugs back with a grin. It’s the first Luffy have seen Torao hug someone and for that to be him... he’ll be bragging about having the best Torao Experience!!

Chapter Text

The Loudest of them all

During the course of their alliance, Luffy find out things about Torao.

Torao is cool. His powers are cool and he also have this cool sword! He has a talking bear in his crew and his ship goes underwater!

Torao is a good guy. He saved Luffy during Marineford and thanks to him, he’s still alive right now and sailing with his nakama!

Torao is smart. He makes this really complicated plans which are usually not fun, but because of that they know what to do.

Torao is really strong. He survived Punk Hazard even when he didn’t have his heart! Then at Dressrosa where they fought Mingo. Luffy’s really glad that they teamed up because Torao is a great nakama to have!

But also, Torao is weird

He hates bread, who hates bread??Or any kind of food??? Even though he keeps insisting that they aren’t friends, he still fuss about them as much as Chopper does, even more at times. He likes reading those boring books that are even thicker than what Robin reads. Torao likes holding organs hostage if they tried going against his doctor’s order. It was awful when Torao held his stomach hostage to make him stay in bed after the fight in Onigashima. But it was kind of funny when Torao took Kizao’s heart so he also stay in bed.

Although, if he listed it all down, the weirdest is that he doesn’t like talk

-=-=-=-=-=-

The first time was at the auction house at Sabaody. Kizao’s being stupid and keeps going on about handling the marines outside. As if Luffy can’t do that! He complained and proceed to say that he’ll do it himself. Alongside them is the guy with the bear, glaring at them and walking quietly with that sneer on his face.

When they were fighting, he didn’t hear anything from the guy with the bear. Only the screams of the marine from his side.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The second time was a complete blur. The only thing he knows is that Ace is dead, his friends are gone and everything hurts. He tried moving but he can’t. He tried struggling but then suddenly he felt something warm on his forehead and hands. Then a murmur of something reached his ears...

He fell back asleep again.

The next time he woke up, only Ace is what matters. He broke through whatever cage he’s being held in and ran. He needed to find Ace.

Jinbei helped him remember that he still have people loving him. He still has his friends.

When they got back to the clearing, there was Rayleigh. He gave him his hat and told him about the other pirate crew who saved him was gone and didn’t even said goodbye.

His hat is strangely warm for not being worn for a few days and he noticed some new sewn parts on it. He put it on and he knew, he needs to meet that other crew and thank them.

-=-=-=-=-=-

After two years, he finally meets the guy who saved him. Luffy called to him, waving from Brown-gator’s back.

“Oi!! It’s you!! It’s me!!! Thanks for back then!!” He yelled on the top of his lungs as they got closer to the man whose attention has been caught and looking at them.

“That’s the guy we met at the Human auction house back at Sabaody, isn’t he?” Zoro said aloud.

Robin turned her head forward to the view of the rival pirate captain. “It’s Trafalgar Law…now he’s…” She trailed off.

The straw hat captain perked up. “That’s right! Trafol- Toral- Tofra- Trafal-guy! That’s him! He helped me escape from the war and healed my wounds!”

“Wounds?”

He grinned, “That’s right! Just like Jinbei, I owe him my life!”

They reached him but Luffy hopped off the centaur halfway to run straight towards the guy.

“I didn’t think we’d meet you here! Thank you for helping me back then!!” The straw hat captain then looked around. “Huh? Where’s the talking bear?” He asked.

Torao was silent as the other was jumping on his feet and then started doing these weird ninja signs. The centaur with some of the strawhats caught up to them with Brown-gator yelling for Torao to help him.

As they stopped, Usopp pointed at their far side where a body is laying motionless. “Hey! There’s a marine lying over there!” He yelled.

Torao on the other hand stopped his ninja signing and sighed out. “A whim. We’re both pirates. Don’t forget.”

“That’s right! We’ll be enemies if you’re going after the One Piece but there’s a lot I owe for stuff two years ago!. I’m really lucky to have met you right after Jinbei!! Thanks so much!”

The other captain just kept on staring at him.

“SMOKER-SAN!!”

A yell behind alerted Luffy of their other audiences in the form of angry and worried marines running for their superior.

“Oi Luffy! This is bad! It’s the marines!!”

“Yeah.”

Tashigi ran to Smoker’s side and saw the hole in his chest where his heart, the organ that keeps one alive. Then she remembered how Trafalgar Law became a Shichibukai in the first place. By sending 100 still beating hearts to Marine HQ. She charged but then her chest throbbed and something felt like its going out of her.

the marine fell down and the entirety of the marine troop ran to them.

Torao just shot them an exasperated look and turned back to Luffy.

“Luffy! Hurry! This place is bad!”

The young captain turned and went straight for his crewmates. “Yeah! Oi Torao! I want to ask you something!”

The other strawhats sat there on the centaurs back. Usopp is panicking, Brook is just laughing, and Zoro is still wondering what the other captain did to Smoker and Tashigi.

Robin on the other hand, her eyes are trained towards Law. She saw him do something earlier and she wants to make sure that she’s not wrong.

And she wasn’t

Trafalgar Law, must be feeling the eyes focused on him, snapped his eyes towards Robin. Something flashed in his eyes because one time he’s glaring at her, and then the next second there’s almost relief as his posture sagged a bit. He then raised his hands and started moving his hands. She followed its movement and realized.

Trafalgar Law really is using sign language!

Once he stopped, Robin gave him a nod and that made the pirate captain sigh out in relief. He nodded at her before turning and walking away.

Luffy was about to follow him but Robin called him, relaying Trafalgar’s words on where to go.

“Ehh? How’d you know that Robin??”

She gave a small smile. “Because Torao-san told me.”

-=-=-=-=-=-

Well to be specific, he rarely talks. He asked about it with his crew once and they said, the most they heard from him is words or unfinished sentences outside of the operating theatre. Apparently surgeries are exceptions because Torao needs to voice out commands during it. But even then, only the select few who are part of the operation are allowed in are lucky to hear him speak for as long as the operation lasts even if it’s only because he’s giving orders.

For Luffy, somehow, the longest Torao ever spoke that he heard was when he’s proposing the alliance and when he’s telling him about Mingo’s brother.

After beating Mingo’s ass, he’s been speaking more but still only a couple words a time and never long sentences.

They’ve already kicked Kaido and Big Mom’s ass but even during their biggest banquet they ever had last night, he never heard a single word from Torao.

Also, Torao keeps doing these weird hand ninja signs! Robin said it was called sign luggage or something. During their travel to Dressrosa, Torao does those and then Robin says something. Luffy can’t understand them so he just leave that to Robin because she’s also smart like Torao.

But right now... He kinda feel jealous about not understanding it because he’s currently sitting on one of the beds in the house they made into a temporary med bay and he can’t understand what’s so funny because Torao’s crew keeps on chuckling while Torao’s doing those ninja signs.

He stood up and went to the bed where Robin is sitting with Chopper who’s changing her bandages. “Robin!” He whined. Pouting even more when someone snorted and said ‘Captain that’s bad!’.

The ravenette looked at him and scooted over so he can sit also. “What is it Luffy?” She asked.

“What are they saying?” He huffed.

She looked towards the Heart’s captain and watched the signs he made. “Hmm, I’m sorry but I don’t know. That’s not GSL. If I had to guess it’s probably Northern since they’re from that sea.” She stated.

The heart captain sensed the eyes on him and turned to the three straw hat at the far end of the room. Well there are five of them but Zoro and Usopp are asleep so only those three then. He then focused on the monkey that wasn’t supposed to be there and so he stood up from his seat. He walked to the three and flicked Luffy on the forehead. He started ninja signing again and Luffy’s pout just deepen.

Robin tapped Luffy so he looked at her. “Torao-san said you’re not supposed to be here. Go back to your bed.”

The younger captain frowned at the other. “Ehh!? But I’m fine now!!”

Torao sighed then did those weird ninja signs that only Robin and the other crew understands. Should Luffy ask Raizo or Shinobi to teach him?

“Torao-san said that he only let you out last night is because you’re too annoying and he didn’t want you throwing a tantrum inside here just because you can’t eat your fill.”

Or maybe just ask Robin or any of Torao’s crew to teach him? The bear maybe- yeah! Totally the bear!

“-ber that you popped two of your stitches last night during the banquet so you have no right to complain or whi-”

Then he can surprise Torao and maybe get him to praise him! Luffy remember hearing Torao’s crew one time that they got extra praising from Torao after the battle!

Torao wacked him on the head, hard enough to get him lie down. “Stay down or no meat.” He grumbled before walking back towards his crew.

That’s a threat if he ever heard one.

They stayed for a couple more weeks, helping out on rebuilding the capital with the help of everybody. Citizens, samurais, minks, pirates, and former beast pirates who’re under Otama’s devil fruit. Everybody are split up to help out everyone with their main focus is bring back the life on the towns that Orochi ruined. Everyone helped to restore the once thriving land of Wano.

Franky, Usopp, Shachi and Ikakku are leading the building team as Franky in an experienced shipwright, Usopp is experienced on building stuff and the other two are the leading engineers of the Polar Tang.

Law, Marco and Chopper are overseeing everyone’s health. Reminding everyone (threats when it comes to Law) that they should always come to them when they aren’t feeling well. Law’s crewmates are split into being stationed on the medical bays (temporary), their submarine repair, while Penguin and Uni assists Sanji with the food and distribution of it all across the country.

Robin took it on herself to teach Momonosuke how to read the ponygliphs so that the Kozuki tradition would continue to live on and be passed to the next generation. Yamato have made it her duty to share the contents of Oden’s logbook to the last remaining Kozukis.

The Kid Pirates decided to play guard for the meantime while they repair their ship. They’re the ones taking turns on guarding the prison where now holds the remnants of the beast pirates who refuses on a truce along with now former captain Hawkins and Apoo that Eustass’ Kidd personally wrapped with a number of seastone chains.

Zoro and Brook also helps with the construction along with the akazaya nine who take turns on who’s gonna be guarding their masters. The minks are a great help too with their strength as they build the larger projects.

Nami, Carrot and a bunch of the minks are making it their job to establish the paradise farm for everyone once again. Children also joined as this is the easiest job that they are allowed to help with. The adult won’t allow them to come anywhere near the constructions right now since it wouldn’t be safe for them .

Jinbei is helping by the docks to ensure the reconstructive and would be ready to welcome any travellers since the land of Wano will be finally open for the world.

But with all that being said, everyone’s busy and that makes Luffy antsy because he’s still not allowed to leave from the med place. It was doctor’s order and Torao is holding his stomach once again as hostage. It’s like the 4th time this week, Torao’s just being mean at this point.

“Toraoooo!!!” He whined as the allied captain got closer to his bed. “I wanna go out!!”

The man shook his head no before getting him to sit up. Changing his bandages. Luffy way he’d as the other worked. He’s really gentle at it despite working fast.

“Ne Torao....when you healed me after the war-”

Torao’s hands paused for a moment before resuming to reapply the bandages. Luffy took that as his queue to continue. “I remember waking up... you said something. It was a blur but I remember you saying something. I just can’t remember what...can you tell me what?” He asked.

Torao just kept quiet until he patted his side. Finished with the bandages then out back his kit to the side, but stayed standing there after. Luffy looked up to him as he looked down to him.

A small smile tugged on Torao’s lips then he raised a hand, placing it to his head and ruffled his hair. Luffy chuckled but then he leaned down and pressed a kiss on top of his head then a second one to his forehead. Torao pulled back, the genuine smile still there.

Luffy placed a hand to his forehead. That’s exactly how he felt when he was half conscious. So Torao kissed him back then??

Why?

He’s not really complaining because it feels so rare and special to have and now he got 3 in total from Torao.

It bring a bubbly feeling inside making him snicker.

A warm feeling crept up his chest as he pulled his hat down his head.

He feels so special suddenly

-=-=-=-=-=-

Its been approximately a month and a half after the battle. Everything’s been sailing smoothly and the citizens are now situated safely. Wano is once again thriving with their rightful Shogun sitting on the throne and his faithful samurais aiding him in every turn.

That also means it’s time for the pirates to set out

That also means that it’s the end of the line for Strawhat-Heart (Straw-Heart) Alliance and Luffy’s throwing a temper tantrum because of that.

“Toraoooo!! Don’t gooo!!!!” He whined as he clung on the now former allied captain’s pant leg.

“Oi Luffy! Give Torao a break!” Nami hissed, whacking him on the head.

“She’s right Luffy. Torao needs to go.” Chopper said despite himself being situated on top of the surgeon’s hatred head.

“You too!!” the woman yelled.

Right now they’re currently leisurely sailing away from the land of Wano. The polar Tang with their sails up and a bridge Franky made out of thin air which now connects the yellow submarine to the Sunny. Bidding their goodbyes to the crew they’ve been friends with for the past month.

Exchanging stuff and taking pictures with the cameko Law's crew has. They have 5 of and Ikakku asked Law if they can give one away which he agreed on so the woman gifted it to Nami. The woman was really thankful, even giving them a basket of her Mikans in return. Law gave them also a denden. Telling them that this is would be their private line. Only Law knows the code to it so he’s the only one who can call from it.

Speaking of exchanging, regarding with the ponygliphs, both crews have three of the copies. Law was the one who found Kaido’s road ponygliph first and even led the Strawhats to its location after the battle. They came into an agreement to share Big Mom’s ponygliph. So right now, it’s only a matter of who gets to find the last one.

But since nobody can read it except for Robin and now Momo, the Hearts have a choice on who to ask for help if they manage to find the last one first.

Law sighed and opened up a room, switching himself with Nami. Nami immediately pressed a foot on Luffy’s back to get him to stay down. “Sorry about that. So when will you depart?”

Law patted Chopper then started signing. “Torao said; ‘We’ll be off once we’re done biding our farewells’.” Chopper translated for him.

Nami soon left them and went to say her goodbye to Ikakku. Leaving Law with a reindeer and a monkey clinging to him.

A few minutes later, the heart crew started boarding the sub. It’s time to sail off and Luffy starts whining again about not agreeing on breaking off the alliance so that should mean they’re still allied.

Law just sighed exasperatedly at the monkey who’s now clinging at him by the waist. “Mugiwara-ya...let go.....I need to do something.” He muttered

Luffy reluctantly let go. Torao talking means he’s serious. Don’t want to piss him off, he might take his stomach away and that’s not good.

Law opened up a room and suddenly a box appeared on his hand. “Tony-ya.” He muttered as he put down the doctor. He knelt down and handed him the book. The reindeer looked at him and read his sign. His eyes widen and looked down at the book he’s holding. Opening it hastily and jaw dropping as he stared at the books inside “R-really You’re giving this to me??” He asked in disbelief.

Law nodded. He gently bummed his first to Chopper’s chest. “You’ll do great.” He said then gave him a head pat. He stood up and walked towards the bridge but stopped just right next to it. He turned around to face Luffy who’s now standing up.

Law opened his arms wide and Luffy without a second thought dived in for the hug. Law just smiled and pulled away after some seconds.

Then he placed a hand on top of his head, ruffling his hair

Followed by pressing a kiss on top of his head to complete it

The strawhats looked dumbfounded while the hearts' face shows interest.

It’s just like with Shana with those exact pattern

Now it clicked in. This is their captain’s, own form of saying goodbye.

Chapter Text

The Silent Heart

Quiet, don’t make any sound. Careful steps and watch the ground. Do not alert the soldiers that you’re around. Don’t be scared or you’ll be found

He ran swiftly. Leaving his sister in the safety of her closet to find their parents.

Tic tok the time is ticking. Plip plop the blood is dripping. Huff huff you’re out of breath. If you got caught then it’s only death

He should’ve expected it but it still couldn’t prepare him to the sight of his parents splayed on the ground and blood pooling around them. He tried to keep it in as much as he could but he’s just a child nonetheless. A child who wailed for his parents and shook their unmoving bodies.

Run run run little child. Run on the streets, run like wild. Don’t let them know you’re alive.

He lied low down under a bridge, covering his mouth to prevent any noise coming out. Out of air but he won’t let the sound of breathing. Not even a single peep out of his little body.

You thought it’d be over? Well then you’re in for a ride.

He fell down on his knees as he watched his safe haven burn. Regretting with every second of his existence that he left his sister alone. His innocent little sister swallowed by raging flames caused by foolish people. He only wished that she’d died from suffocation so that way, Lami won’t have to feel the pain of being burnt alive. Asking for deities that she’s kept clueless about this ugly world they live in.

Ashes are falling and the corpses are stacked. Carried and thrown to a vehicle they’re going to use for transporting the bodies to the boat or whatever sailing ships they have. He squeezed through and situated under the mountain of corpses.

Staying as still as he can and closed his eyes. He can’t sleep, that’s too risky. He just needs time to cover his eyes from the horrid show unravelling right before his very eyes. He’s afraid. I mean, who doesn’t right?

He just survived a bloodbath and he’s really tired. This nightmare lasted too long. If he can, he would gouge his eyes out because the last thing he wants right now is to be faced with the corpses of his family and friends.

Blood blood blood, he wants to kill everyone responsible. Burn burn burn, he’ll give up everything to see the world burn. Nothing will stop him as he’s only seeking justice. Justice for his sister. Justice for his parents. Justice for his friends. Justice for the whole country of white that was failed by the people that’s supposed to protect them.

There’s only lies lies lies, nobody can fault him for seeking revenge before he dies. Nobody can blame him for wanting to destroy their lives.

After all it wasn’t fair that they perished while the ones to blame got help and survived.

Pop pop pop, no one can pop this bubble of silence. Deep soothing voice that reached out to him. Black feathered coat keeping him warm from the weather. Stupid smile and comforting hands. He’s a klutz but he’s the only one left. In this wretched world, he stands tall with that blinding smile...he’s the only light left in this world. A blinding shiny light that saved him.

A light so bright yet snuffed out like a fire on a candle stick.

“He needs to be educated to die for me”

Bang bang bang, countless of shots fired he can’t keep track. He wants to reach him, wants to stay by his side. He’s the light leading his way to betterment. Yet he can’t do anything but peek out of the chest to see his saviour with his back on the ground. Snow around him turns to red as the blood seeps into the white mass.

White is an ugly color

White takes people’s live away

White lies to justify wrong doings even if it costs the loves of many

White is cold and slowly covers his light

Canons are fired, and he hears it

The sound of his voice crying out loud

Law shot up from his bed. Hands finding it’s way to his throat, clawing at it

It’s wrong. It sounds so wrong. His voice sounds so wrong.

Cora-san made him silent

He shouldn’t be able to hear himself

He doesn’t want to hear his voice

Hearing it means...

No no no no no

He doesn’t want it

They should be gone

He needs it gone

He shakily moved a hand away from his throat and flexed it open

Before he can summon up a room, a hand covered his. “Law... stop it. You’re hurting yourself.”

He tried pulling his hand away but he’s too shaken up and feel so weak at the moment. He shook his head. No! He needs it gone!!

White came into his vision and he yelled. Forcing to pry his hand out of its confines and backed up. Moving back until he hit the wall. “....way...get... away..... go away.....”

Hearing his voice, he once again started to claw at his throat. Looking up, it’s dark. Where is he?? He needs to get out

Dark

Chest

Out

OUT

He needs Cor-

The place brighten up...it’s a room

Three figures are in front of him. Penguin, Shachi and Bepo...

They slowly approached him. Concern obvious on their faces. “Law, you good?” Penguin asked softly.

“Brat, are you alright?” Law turned towards the door open wide with Wolf leaning on the frame.

He nodded shortly and the old man stepped closer to them. He sat down and handed him a glass of water. He gratefully took it and tipped it down. Law handed it back to him. “...thanks.....m’sorry.......” He muttered.

Wolf placed a hand on top of his head then ruffled his hair. “You’ll be fine.” He said in a calm manner. “You’re safe here brat.” Law looks at each of them, feeling a bubble of warmth keeps growing in his chest. The hand on his head is grounding.

He slumped back to Bepo who moved behind him. Shachi and Penguin situated themselves one on each his side while Wolf stayed in front. Law’s in the middle, accepting their pampering. Too out of it to protest.

He’s been having nightmares a lot lately since the news of Doflamingo being a Warlord appeared on the paper. He’s been managing them fine on his own but tonight’s been the worst. Three years passed with his peaceful pseudo family and just one news is gonna break him? Pathetic

“Do you need anything kid?” The old man asks.

Law reached a hand to his head. “H-hat.......my...hat...” He uttered out.

Shachi plucked it off the ground as he’s the closest. Dusting it off a bit before handing it to Law’s waiting hands.

Instead of wearing it like they thought he would, Law hugged it to his chest.

His hat. The only memento he has left from his family. His parents who bought it and his sister who stitched their initials inside. Something that he can never part with.

Wolf removed his hand from Law’s head and he almost made a reach for it. Instead he raised his hand ‘Old man, stay for a bit.’ He signed

The four of them chuckled as they read his sign. Wolf grinned. “M’not going anywhere brat.”

-=-=-=-=-=-

They all stood in front of Wolf. They’re all packed up, all that’s left is to say goodbye to their guardian. Bepo, Shaci and Penguin tackled the old man to the ground, crying all over the guy. Expressing their gratitude for taking them all in with wet sobs.

Wolf just laughed, pushing them off of him. It took them getting kicked by Wolf so they could board the submarine and prepare everything for submerging.

That only left, Law who didn’t join their tearful display. Wolf huffed. “What are you waiting for brat? Come here.” He said, spreading his arms out.

Law slowly approached and accepting the invitation for a hug. He buried his head on the crook of his neck. “Thank you....for everything...shitty scientist.”

Wolf chuckled. “No problem shitty brat.” He said, giving reassuring pats to the teenager’s back.

Law pried himself away. Stepping back before raising his hand to sign. He scoffed at the flustered look the old man shows after reading his sign.

He got into the submarine and welcomed by the three’s excited cheers.

Wolf watched as the submarine submerged, wiping away a tear rolling down his eyes. “Those shitty brats.” He grumbled.

‘You’re like the grandpa I never had.’

“Those brats better take care of themselves” or he’ll set sail once again just to hunt them down.

“Is captain mute?”

“No.”

“Then why doesn’t he talk?”

“He’s selectively mute. I heard that something happened before and Captain got uncomfortable of speaking.”

“Ooh, okay. Do we have to do something?”

“What do you mean?”

“So that I can understand captain, non verbally I mean.”

“You mean sign language?”

“Yeah! That!”

“Then you should join tonight’s session. Penguin and the others are holding a class on it.”

Law pushed away from the wall and walked away with a blooming smile on his face.

Few months after that, they found themselves with a little girl obliviously playing with pirates. Shana, such a sweet child.

It might come as a surprise for many that the known sadistic surgeon roaming the seas goes soft on fluffy things and children. Specifically little girls as they would always remind him of his sister. It’s a weakness he knows has the highest possibility of being taken advantaged once someone find out.

He just hopes, Shana grows up to be a good adult.

Something that he wished he could’ve seen his little sister be.

-=-=-=-=-=-

It makes him sick. Seeing that mark on this auction house where they sell human lives like it’s nothing. It’s disgusting.

“Captain, you alright?” Shachi muttered.

Law took a deep breath and loosen his hold on Kikoku. He held up his sword, Bepo getting the clue took it from him.

Once the auction started, he just looked down, his eyes hidden by the shade of his hat. He can’t. He feels bile rising from his stomach at the cruelty performed in front of him.

Later, he can kiss the Strawhats for ending the sick and twisted act of these disgusting people.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The navies and their fake justice. No amount of white can cover the blood of innocent people they sacrificed for their so called justice.

He turned away from the big screen. “...Let’s go.” He voiced out and his crew knows just to listen.

-=-=-=-=-=-

His heart is pounding

“-I’LL TAKE CARE OF HIM FOR NOW!!!!”

His ears are ringing

“ I’M A DOCTOR!!!!!

It’s been so long since he yelled as loud like that..

And just further in that warzone is that devil...

Just thinking of him makes his bloodlust rise

-=-=-=-=-=-

He’s still stable... that’s good.

Law sat on the chair he’s been staying on for the past few days, continuously awaiting the moment Mugiwara would wake up.

-=-=-=-=-=-

He didn’t have to wait that long. After 5 hours of reading, he heard the rustling sound of the blanket moving. The heart monitor started beeping and he placed down the book.

He’s on his bedside in a second.

Mugiwara is conscious but at the same time he’s not. Law can understand. He’s been on the same situation before.

Someone who just lost someone he loves while edging on the line of death.

He understands the pain.

He placed a hand on his head and starts carding his fingers through his hair. He leaned down, resting temple against his. “You’re not alone....” He placed a hand over one of the others. “...it’s fine.... you’re fine....I’ll take care of you......” Because that’s what Law needed and lost. Someone who’ll take care of him despite the low chance of survival. He got it but lost quickly.

At one point, he was that person. The one who’s taking care of the sick. Taking care of his sister. Staying by her side no matter what. Protecting her as much as he can. Which ended in vain.

In a moment of getting swept by memories and realizing how much this exact event happened before but with his sister in the bed instead of a broken teenager... he pressed a kiss on his forehead as he squeezed his hand. “...everything’s gonna be alright......just hang on... and live.........”

-=-=-=-=-=-

Law was reluctant on leaving his patient behind. He’s a doctor and it’s his duty to care for his patient until they get back on their feet.

But this is Silvers Rayleigh.

He carefully placed the strawhat on Rayleigh’s hand. “He needs 2 weeks rest...” He said before turning his back on him and headed for the Polar Tang.

He’ll see him again...he’ll be waiting for it.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The next time he saw him is through the newspaper on the front page. Alive and kicking, literally.

It was entertaining but he’d have appreciated more if Mugiwara wasn’t moving at all as to not waste his time and effort on fixing him.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Two years passed before the Strawhat Pirates came barging in and bringing trouble. At the very least, he’s glad that Nico-ya and Tony-ya can read sign language.

He turned to the children currently unconscious and chained...fuck.....children experimented by that sick bastard!!

He didn’t even know there are children in this place...

Sick children needing saving from their unknown abductors they gullibly believed as their saviour from a non existent illness.

Fuck

How did something like this escaped his haki??

How the fuck did he let such thing happen to children that he could have helped???

He feels like he just failed as a doctor

For a moment he felt the burning rage well up to the surface

Ill children left in this icy cold wasteland

Trapped in a never ending layers of white snow and dark lies

No help from the outside as even the government let it happen

To the point that the only salvation they have are Pirates who has the heart to care and the power to do something.

Very similar to him

But this time, he wasn’t the one dying

This time, he has the power to do something and he’ll be damned if even one kid dies under his watch.

-=-=-=-=-=-

He clutched at his chest as he feels the agonizing pain of it being squashed in someone’s hand

Law glared at the man holding his heart

White

A hell spawn masquerading with the robe of an angel and his fake halo

White is an ugly color

His vision darkened and soon he was unconscious

White is an evil color

-=-=-=-=-=-

Doflamingo’s finally defeated. The moment that demon crashed into the ground and didn’t came back up again, he felt his own cage crumble down and for the first time in 13 years...... he felt like shouting until his voice gives out.

He looked up to the sky where the birdcage slowly disappeared. They did it.

Mugi-

Luffy-ya did it

‘Cora-san...finally I’m free......’

-=-=-=-=-=-

Law woke up in the middle of the night, feeling the sting of pain at the back of his neck resulting from sleeping with using Kikoku. Something he’s not used to because he’s always had Bepo and his private quarters. Even back at Punk Hazard, he had a whole room for himself.

Also, even if he crashed somewhere in the Polar Tang, he’d always wake up with a blanket over his shoulder and a pillow supporting his neck. Then out of nowhere someone would place a cup of hot coffee on whatever surface he’s currently on. His crew consists of a bunch of mother hens. When he wakes up in the middle of the night, he’d go to the kitchen then open the fridge where they always leave him a couple of Onigiri that he just needs to reheat. He’ll go to at the control room and see who’s on night watch. Give them some of his rice balls and pour them a cup of coffee. Sometimes join them for the rest of the watch if they didn’t shoo him back to his room.

His crew...

He misses them so much....

Law carefully stood up and sneak his way out. Making sure not to step on any part or limb of the people lying down on the ground. He felt his haki pick up a presence. Looks like he woke of the green haired swordsman.

“Where are you going?” The fellow blade wielder asked.

The surgeon clutched his nodachi. “Out.” Everything still feels surreal. He needs some time to take it all in. He didn’t wait for another word and walked out. Closing the door quietly behind him.

He strolled along the flowery area then later lying down on the grass. Looking up to the night sky.

No snow

No birdcage

No lingering glint of strings

Just the sky

The starry night sky

Peaceful

Beautiful

Safe...

-=-=-=-=-=-

He pulled back from his fellow allied captain. Why he did it, he doesn’t know, but the stupidly large grin on the monkey’s face somehow makes him feel better. Mugi- Luffy is like a kid. Such a carefree spirit. Just like his little Lami. If she would’ve survived, Law can see her being like this guy. A happy go lucky person.

He also reminds him of an idiot with a similar stupidly wide grin. A big idiot who wormed his way in his heart.

Just like how this allied crew crashed into his life and forcefully squeezed their way in his heart. Making a permanent residence in his mind.

He doesn’t know why he pulled the other in an embrace but it just felt right at the moment. A small smile on his warming face. His heart pounding inside his chest from the small gesture

Huh

That was a first

-=-=-=-=-=-

White peaked out of the green bushes

“CAPTAIN!!!!”

Law smiled as Bepo literally jumped him. Crying with relief as he held unto his captain after months of being separated from him.

He held the mink and peeked behind him. Warmth filling his chest as his crew came into view. Wearing their white boiler suits proudly. It’s the only white uniform he’ll ever accept.

Amber lead, Dirty Snow, Disgusting Marines and Useless doctors have long tarnished the color white for him.

The only thing that keeps him from hating in completely is his crew’s beloved suits, Bepo’s fur, and his precious hat.

And now, a small piece of white paper with a scrawled ‘LUFFY’ adds to that list.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Wano is a beautiful country

Well, he tried envisioning the country when it was back then before the evil shogun and Kaido showed up and he can say that he’d probably buy a land here and build a house for vacation. So that when Law and his crew needs a breather from the insanity of the New World, they can stop here and take a break.

He can see himself doing that. The country is as peaceful as it can get but he’s waiting how much more that can improve once the rightful heir on the throne is seated.

He stretched his arms then folded them at the back of his head to support it as he lied down.

This has been the best week so far

No Doflamingo

No annoying fraud scientist

No Marines

No Lu-

“Captain!!! We have a problem!!!”

He peeked under his hat and saw Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin running towards him. He slowly sat up. “Captain!!!” Bepo shrieks.

Law put up his hands and signed. “What? Why are you upset?” Names, he need names. Description and everything and he’ll hunt down whoever had the gall to upset one of his people. Nope, over his dead body.

“It’s Straw hat and Roronoa!!”

That, for some reason he doesn’t want to acknowledge, brings relief and joy to his chest, even with the slightest amount. They came back. Already came back after throwing themselves on an emperor’s territory in that short amount of time. That means they succeeded. Hopefully without much loss.

“Straw Hat and Roronoa plunged themselves into Bakura Town!!!”

Law shot up from his position

'Only trouble will come out of that!!!' He aggressively signed

He’s already feeling a migraine forming

“That’s right.” Shachi huffed

He stomped forward, going past them

“Captain?”

“Captain!”

With gritted teeth and veins popping. He turned to them. Knuckles white as he gripped Kikoku’s scabbard tightly. “Let’s go stop those idiots!!”

-=-=-=-=-=-

God fucking dammit

That moron just had to-

He-

Lu- no- Mugiwara... that fool just wouldn’t listen!!

Now look what that got them at

That idiot's in a prison and him getting shot with a sea stone nail of all things. Not only that but because of Mugiwara, it wouldn’t take long before they found out about everything and ruin these 20 years of vengeance in the making. He knows how much this means to these people now. He himself spent 13 years of his life with the sole purpose of bringing down Doflamingo.

Who is he to get in another one’s way to revenge?

“Go on ahead without me!!”

Law swears... once this whole thing is over, he’ll make damn sure and cut off this alliance no matter what the straw hatted selfish captain demands. He needs a break from these people. Forever if possible.

“It’ll be fine as long as my true identity isn’t revealed...right?”

Well Law hopes he does cuz one more of them getting fucked by Kaido and his men, someone’s gonna die.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Holy shit... “Wait...I know that suit....”

There’s no way

No fucking way...but it looks so... “but... why does he have that sui!?”

Fuck, his throat is hurting but its... that’s- “... it belongs to the enemy of Sora, Warrior of the Sea!” His throat is hurting... it’s too dry but... that’s- “The no.3 member of the evil army, Germa 66! Stealth Black!!”

Ughhh, he really needs to speak more these days or he’s never gonna get used to talking... at least he’s doing better lately but talking just doesn’t feel right

“Hey, why do you know so much!!”

His throats hurting but this is the actual thing in front of him! There’s no way he can say nothing and even his crewmates know this! “Of course I do! Everyone from the North Blue knows!!”

“Whatever! Listen! Don’t ever call me Germa!! Understood?!”

He’s a legitimate fan who supported Sora, Warrior of the Sea... “Germa, those despicable villains...”

“I HATED THEM TOO!!!

-=-=-=-=-=-

He knew it.... somethings bad gonna happen soon enough. AGAIN.

He just...

He just didn’t think it would happen to his crew... his precious family.... and for it to happen to his most trusted... his most loyal friends...

“That bear and your other comrades must have leaked our plans!!! No doubt about it!!!”

And this woman! How dare she even suggest that they would do such a thing!! “Bepo and the others would rather die than betray us!! Don’t underestimate them!!” He growled at her

This is something he can’t keep quiet about.

If anything, this was their fault! Their plan has lots of faults and holes in it! Handing out those fliers and actually thinking that there’s no way it won’t get to the wrongs hands! If that thing will really be understood by the citizen of Wano then it was already a failing plan from the start!!!

And they have the audacity to blame his crew!??! REALLY!?!?

Getting even one of his crew to cough up even the tiniest secret is as impossible as a devil fruit user swimming in the sea! That’s how much tight lipped they are!

And those three

They will never betray his trust even if death himself demanded it from them

“Once we save them, you’ll believe it!!”

“Wait! We’ll be falling right into the enemy’s trap if we do that Torao!!”

He scoffed and started signing because he doesn’t care anymore and only Robin understand him anyway

‘Look at these hypocrites!

Everybody knows what happened at Enies Lobby!

YOU were there to save a crewmate, did ANY OF YOU stopped YOUR Captain from doing so?!? Nico Robin is sitting here as the living proof of that!! Did anyone managed to convince YOU LOT to let the world government take Robin from YOU!?! Obviously not!!

And now YOU’RE telling ME, A CAPTAIN OF MY OWN CREW THAT I SHOULD NOT GO THERE RIGHT NOW AND SAVE MY FRIENDS

I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THEY ARE GETTING TORTURED AS WE TALK AND YOU’RE TELLING ME TO NOT GO THERE WHEN WE ALL KNOW FOR SURE THAT THEY WILL KILL THEM IF THEY DON’T SAY ANYTHING AND THEY WON’T!!

YOU WANT ME TO LET THEM DIE!?!?’

“Torao-kun...”

‘You shut up!’

“I don’t understand what you’re doing but Prisoners should be disposed of!! They must be silenced!!”

“Shinobu –!!”

“THIS ISN’T A GAME!!! WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 20 YEARS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY!! IF WE FAIL NOW, WE’LL NEVER HAVE A CHANCE!!!”

Kanjuro stood up. “Stop it Shinobu!”

“Kan-sama...” She sobbed out

And she has the nerve to be the one crying!

He’s have enough of this

‘I won’t forgive you for doubting my comrades.... alliances without trust might as well not exist! There’s no way I can leave this in your hands!

I had faith in all of you... gave you my trust and I never thought of betraying you because I know what it’s like on the receiving end...’

“Torao – kun that’s –!”

‘I won’t betray you like I said back in Punk Hazard and I don’t want to hear anything from all of you right now... you won’t be hearing from me because no one listens to me anyway!’

He glared at each one of them, staying at Shinobu’s for the longest.

‘You're not worthy of my voice...’ my trust

He signed, one last time before walking out of there.

He arrived here, finally...

He walked closer to the mouth of the cave. The place where his beloved submarine is hidden and stayed intact.

The lookout outside are Puffin and Setsuro. The moment they saw him, they came barrelling towards Law and he did what he’s been wanting to do for the whole time he was there locked up.

He lunged at them, pulling them forward and hugging them with one arm each. As tight as he can do with his hands feeling limp resulted from tight sea stone cuffs.

“Where’s everyone?” He muttered.

“Inside.” The simultaneous short answer from the surprised men.

Law pulled away and grabbed each an arm, then started pulling them towards the cave.

When they got in, the two guided him towards the library. The room the others collectively gathered everyday. The room aside from the operating theatre and the med bay that their captain have taken care of the most even more so than his private quarters.

Ever since he exchanged himself for his friends freedom, the Hearts went back to the place that gives them the most comfort during that moment of distress. They made a small mistake and their captain paid the price. No way they’re just gonna sit there and do nothing!

The rest of the hearts are in the middle of plotting ways they could get their captain out when the door to the library opened. Come enters their beloved captain and it turned to a stampede with the need to be the first one to reach the bloodied man.

Bepo reached him first like always. The other yelling out protests that He’s hogging their captain for himself.

Law didn’t mind the noise. He embraced them like how tight he embrace his best friend. When Bepo finally let go of him, Shachi and Penguin took it as the chance to get their turn. Both of them sobbing and apologizing profusely. Law kept on comforting them in a hushed tone.

A hand came to his back, making Law turn to the side and see Ikakku, eyes tearful and gripping at his haori. “Captain... you’re injured...” She muttered in a shaky voice.

Penguin and Shachi pulled back from him in a second. Their faces filled with guilt and regret. Law smiled and pulled Ikakku to him, also hugging the usually hardened woman. In a matter of seconds, she started sobbing also, hugging him as if he would disappear if she let go. She’s the big sister of this crew but at the moment, Law just sees her just as vulnerable as his little sister.

Soon after everyone got their turn hugging their captain, he was rushed to the med bay. The room was cramped from everyone getting in and no one was willing to get out.

Law just let them

They were clingier than before and he just let them. Even when Uni was was treating his injuries, Ikkaku was holding his hand. And he let her, remembering how his little Lami liked to hold his hand when she was scared.

They all protested when he stood up from the bed. Uni pushed him back to the bed then pulled the blanket up to his chest. Telling him He’s on bedrest. They started fussing over him like the mother hens that they are.

Law couldn’t ask for better nurses.

“To set sail in such a small boat in such a storm!!! Are you idiots or what!? You underestimate the sea, Samurais!!!” He yelled

That’s it, He’s convinced that each on of them are idiots

Later that would be proven more when KInnemon started spewing that bullshit plan of his

The dawn is coming

The sun rising and peaking from the clouds and the war is coming to its end

He believes in Mugiwara and sat there, watching the straw hatted captain strike his last attack to bring down the dragon tyrant

And he wasn’t wrong to do so...

-=-=-=-=-=-

Law shook his head no at his annoying patient.

He’s still a bit pissed about some of the straw hats doubting his crew but Mugiwara wasn’t there so he can’t put fault on him about that.

Although that doesn’t mean he’s not annoyed with the man. After all, he’s the worst patient he’s ever had in his life.

“Ne Torao... when you healed me after the war –”

He paused for a moment before resuming his work. Finish reapplying his bandage fast to avoid the younger captain’s questions. He has a feeling that this has been a long time coming but he wasn’t ready to answer.

He still wasn’t sure what this feeling he enveloped for the guy. It’s a feeling of fondness mixed with annoyance. There’s also something else but he’s afraid to put a name on it.

Because the only times he felt that, aside from his family are his crew and Cora-san. And comparing them, Law won’t call it familial.

“I remember waking up... you said something. It was a blur but I remember you saying something. I just can’t remember what... can you tell me what?”

He knew it

That time, it was on pure emotional and thoughtless act. Just from a broken guy to another broken guy... but now... no, he’s not saying it and he will never

He finished reapplying the bandages, patting his side for indication. He stood up but stayed in front of him, looking down at him as Mugiwara looked at him with these eyes filled with confusion and curiosity.

Is it weird that to him... it looked so innocent and adorable at the same time?

The younger just kept looking at him expectantly and... fuck... he’s really with puppy dog eyes, isn’t he?

A small smile find its way to his lips then he placed a hand on his black messy hair, ruffling it and getting it even more messed up. The younger chuckled and Law... is weak to it.

He leaned down and pressed a kiss on top of his head then to his forehead where he kissed him the first time. He pulled back. Giving one glance at the genuine surprised look on the straw hatted captain.

He then turned his back to him and went to his table to check patient files.

Law heard a faint snicker behind him that in return made his heart pound

Yep

He’s screwed

Law pried the monkey clinging to him.

“Torao, visit us sometimes kay?”

The surgeon shrugged. Not sure when or if he even will but for the younger captain, he took it as an affirmation as he jumped and whooped. Law gave him a last pat in the head before he started walking across the detachable bridge. He detached it from the railing of the sub’s deck, letting it fall down and hit the side of the Sunny. He turned to the Straw Hat crew and waved at them before turning to his crewmates remaining on the deck. 'Prepare to submerge.' He signed and they saluted. One by one they went in with him following behind.

The moment he closed the metal door, he felt the familiar hum and vibration of the Tang under his feet.

He happily strolled down to the control room, stopping in the middle of the room, watching as they handle the controls. Wooly nodded to him from the helm and he nodded back.

Law went to his room after making sure that they have submerged safely. He knows now what He’s gonna do.

He placed down the snail wearing a mini straw hat beside his white denden and dialled the number to the snail he gave them.

He waited and as soon as it was picked up, he can already hear the ruckus on the other side of the line. Looks like they’re fighting who’s getting the call.

Soon the Snail grinned as wide as it can. Looks like their captain won. Like that’s nothing new.

“TORAO!!! Are you coming back!?”

Law chuckled.

“Mugiwara-ya...” He started, ignoring his question. “Let’s see who’s gonna get the last poneglyph... you or me... when we encounter each other again we’ll be enemies once again...”

The snail frowned. “But were friends!! You’re my friend now!!”

“... not necessarily but I’ll tell you this... when we see each other again... let’s duel...if I win, I get a copy if you find the last poneglyph first...”

“...If I win? Will you give me tons and tons of meat??!?”

Law just smirked. “...I was gonna say that if you win... let’s make a permanent alliance but if meat is what you want then–”

He heard a crash on the other line and a bit of a scuffle but Luffy’s expression returned to the snail. “REALLY!?!?”

“Anything you want... but until then... we’re enemies...” He smiled. “Let’s meet at the end of the line... see you... Luffy-ya.” He said before dropping the line. The snail sleeping once again.

Law leaned down and pressed a short kiss on the mini straw hat.

He’ll wait

The throne is not waiting for him

He’s just one of the people to help make way for the King

After all, the King of the Pirates needs hurdles to bust his way through for him to grow

Luffy is the one to bring light for the new dawn

Law is only there to silently support and push him forward even if he doesn’t know it.
