Chapter Text

You didn't think humans were the only ones to walk the earth, did you? Well to answer you're question. No, humans weren't the only intelligent lifeforms to walk the earth. Well we already knew that from our common ancestors, but what about other races. Non-human races, sentient and intelligent lifeforms with their own cultures and beliefs.

We would've have figured it out by now, wouldn't have we? Well we humans have always been a little self-centered. Always taking credit for things others have done. Quick to assume no one other then us could have done things.

And what if told you there was another race that was with us. That we weren't the only ones to gain intelligence all of a sudden.

You'd call me crazy right?

---

Long, long ago, there once was a time when two races walked the earth... Humans and Monsters. Humans with these other beings ruled over earth, each taking space up on separate lands and starting up their own civilizations.

Monsters as so they were called, were not that different from Humans when really thinking about it. They both had intelligence, sentience, the abilities to form languages, to love, and potential to do amazing things. Even their souls were similar to some extent. For Monsters had white upside down heart souls while humans would have regular rightup heart souls with different colors. These colors could range to all the colors, and shades on the color-wheel.

With all of this one would think humans and monsters got along. Well... that wasn't the case. For there was always one thing separating the two races from forming common ground.

The thing was that monsters had the ability to use magic. Pure and raw magic.

Unlike Humans where they would have to study and use books of spells, potions, staffs or wands just to be able to get close to using magic. Monsters were born with this magic and the ability to use it, and use it they could. Monsters were not just able to use magic, they could use magic on a whole different level compared to humans.

And humans being humans, couldn't let that be.

This often was the cause for many disputes between the two races. Even though Monsters we're weaker compared to humans, and Humans often had the better advantage, with stronger souls. They still thought of Monsters as threats and dangerous creatures.

Because of this, tensions grew high between the two races. Monsters were often getting dusted left and right by humans who thought of Monsters as lesser then or because of fear. Racism between the two races became a common thing, And As the years went by, the worse it got.

Monsters began to become scared of humans, to many of their kind, were being dusted left and right by humans for no reason. Innocent monsters were dying and Justice was not being served.

This kept going on and on until, eventually monsters for all their kindness and patience got fed up. They decided that they were not just going to sit back anymore. That they needed to fight back.

But clearly they couldn't just do that or least a war break out between both races so they thought...

And thought...

Until finally! they came up with the idea that they needed something... or someone to protect them....

And that's how Monsters came up with the idea for the first Royal Justice

Their original concept was that they needed to create a being powerful enough to rival the natural power a human had. This being needed to be able to spot and take down humans that wanted to cause them harm, but be able to tell if they had good intentions too or else they would be killing some innocent and a risk a war or more hatred.

The idea was tweaked there and then, until eventually they were finally able to create the perfect protecter. This being was created in a ritual by seven high skilled monster casters, each having different colored magic representing each of the seven human soul traits.

Cyan magic for Patience,

Orange magic for Bravery,

Blue magic for Integrity,

purple magic for Perseverance,

green magic for Kindness,

yellow magic for Justice,

and the most rare magic colored magic for monsters,

red for Determination All this magic was used to cast a spell where a monster with a untainted soul who had no LV or EXP was then chosen to be the upbringer of this creature

Until eventually a child was manifested from magic. And thus the first Justice was born. They looked the same as any other monster. But were given different abilities a normal monster wouldn't be able to have.

They had the power to control all different colored magic... and They had the ability to see deep inside a person's soul. they could see all the wrongdoings a person had done and if they had ill intent or not. Allowing them to cause higher damage on the amount of harm or hurt the other person has caused.

This ability was later on to be called KARMIC RETRIBUTION

With their powers and abilities they became the middle ground between both Monsters and Humans. And acted like a judge determining whether someone was guilty or innocent, thus giving them the second name The Judge.

This monster with this power was able to restore peace between the two races. This peace lasted for hundreds of years as different generation's of royal judges were reborn. Each one bringing greater things to help advance both races.

Until suddenly one day it all stopped. Monster and Human where once again at each others throats with tensions higher then ever before. They were close to the brink of war. No one knew why or how it started but before any of them knew it they where at war.

The royal judge fought on the front lines along with many other monsters. The war was cruel and brutal, Monsters and Humans could be heard crying for a loved one or friend as they died fighting, swords clashing and screams could be heard, the sickening sent of fire, ash and blood could smelled on the battle field.

The battle field was covered with dust and the blood of body's. The war lasted for decades, and as the war went on monsters were backed into a corner. Their numbers grew low and their men were tired. They surrendered, but the humans didn't care about that anymore. They wanted to exterminate the whole monster race.

In hopes of saving their race the royal judge striked a deal with the human race, and Eventually coming to an agreement. The royal judge exchanged their life in hopes that the human race would spare the rest of the monster race and instead trap them underground.

The royal judge died a hero, sacrificing their life for Monster Kind.

Over the first years monster were trapped underground they started to build their own civilization. Years went by without a royal judge being manifested, years turned into decades, and decades turned into century's.

Hope in another royal judge being manifested was lost as the war killed off many of the monsters that specialized in the different colored magic's neede to perform the ancient ritual, and the book for the ritual was written in an entangleable language no one could understand. Only they old holder of the book could have read it but they pasted away in the war before they could pass on the knowledge on how to read the book. Many tried to decifer the spell but failed miserably.

The book the ritual was written in was left sitting on the shelfs of the royal library never to be touched again and to collect dust for eternity.

And as more time went by the legacy of the royal judge was left and thought of as a myth or legend that parents and grandparents would tell their children and grandchildren to scare them into behaving.

But only the few people who were still alive and lived through the war were able to remember that the judge was in fact a very real person and know that the legend was true.

Legend has it that one day the royal judge will return, when danger is at our presence... to protect us, and conclude judgement once more.... to those who decide to cause us harm.

I'm still new to writing so expect spelling and grammar mistakes, if you find any I'll try and fix them. Thanks for reading <3

Chapter Text

Mt Ebott. everybody knows of Mt Ebott, it's impossible to not know of it if you go to the city of Ebott. Almost everybody new to the city of Ebott or even tourists know of the Great mountain called Mt Ebott.

How could anybody not to know of Mt Ebott, as the city of Ebott is quite literally named after the mountain, and the mountain is one of the city's tourism destinations attracting thousands of people to the small city every year. it would be hard to miss seeing it in all its glory as it casts a shadow on the city of Ebott.

It's quite easy to know the reason someone is going to Mt Ebott as people go to the famous mountain for simple three reasons, two of them being very well known as one; it is recommended to experienced hikers to climb for its treacherous terrain and dangerous slopes.

Two; it's tourist attraction, tourist visit for the mountains wonderful view and fresh air.

And three; where people who don't want to return go to disappear.

---

Forest of Mt Ebott 1702

Running. A small, brown haired child was Running from a mob of angry villagers. It's funny how someone can find themselves in situations like this. The child was clearly tired but didn't stop. If they were clearly tired why didn't they stop? No. They couldn't stop. The child wasn't running because they were in trouble and getting caught would mean getting reprimanded by their parents. No. They were running for their life.

Getting caught meant death for this child.

Clara Devlin was their name. She was the out of wedlock daughter of Irish woman, Margrot Devlin.

Clara Devlin was born on the winter solast of 1692, in a run down cottage doing nothing to stop the cold from getting in. Clara was blessed with brunette hair almost resembling the firey orange color of her mother's in the light and ruby red eyes as red colored as the determined soul she was born with.

Margrot counted this as a blessing, that her child would grow up to be such a determined woman. but others called it a curse. Villagers sneered and looked at red eyed child with fear.

For what did these Villagers know of Souls, for these were different times and long since had the times when the knowledge of magic was common knowledge. No that knowledge had faded when they locked the monsters underground. Only very few knew of the ancient knowledge of Souls and Soul magic. And even fewer bothered to pass it down.

So they called it the Devil

A Demon!

Lucifers spawn!

And what came of poor Margrot. They called her a witch, and made up their minds that she must have bargained with the devil.

And with the fear of witches and demons the villagers gathered together and they burnt down Margrot Devlin's little cottage with her and her child inside.

Margrot and with little Clara Devlin in hand barely escaped out of the burning house into the forest of Ebott. The villagers must had thought they died that night as they never chased after them into forest.

For the next 10 years Margrot and Clara Devlin made made their home deep into the forest of Ebott. Isolated from the village and the villagers. It was peaceful. But good things can never last.

Some villager had wander to far into the forest and caught sight of Clara Devlin's red eyes and cried witch back to the village.

The life Clara and her mother had built in that forest was burnt down that day, the same way Margrot's cottage in the village was. Only this time Margrot wasn't so lucky and Clara was left to run by herself.

And run she did.

She ran to the only other place she knew. Great Mt Ebott.

Her mother told her of the storys of that cursed mountain. Don't go there ye child, the monsters live there. But Clara had didn't care. She just needed to go up there.

By the time Clara had reached top of the mountain she had lost the angry mob of villagers. Or so she thought.

Clara weary and exhausted seeked shelter in one of the many caves in the mountain. The further she walked in she noticed a gapping hole in the caves floor. She was one step closer to her goal. It was almost as if the hole was calling her. She walked closer and closer until she was right at the edge. A dangerous decision, a stupid one. looking down the hole it seemed like an endless black abyss. Her mind seemed to have been sucked into that abyss for she stayed there, standing, looking. So engrossed she failed to pay attention to her surroundings.

And a pair of arms beat her to it and pushed her in.

---

A ruffle of grass and a nervous shift

"H-hello, are you alright...?" A timid child's voice called out.

The child lying face in the grass would have rolled their eyes in a way to convey the words do I look alright if they could have but it seemed like the observer beat them to it.

"Right... that's a stupid question, you clearly don't look so good..."

That was about right, they felt as if every bloody bone in their body had been broken. They were in agony.

"H-help... me.." their raspy voice cracked, worn out from screaming. The person must have gotten closer as they heard more shuffling. And the sounds of feet on grass.

"I dont think i can fully carry you, and you dont look like you can walk..." The boy, now that he was closer they could hear better.

"I can try and use some of my healing magic to heal your legs but I'm not as good...so we'll need to go to my mom" Huh? Magic, what-

They forced their head to lift up, only to stare up at what was a white talking goat..? Are they dead. Is this the devil himself?

Then they felt it, no they saw it too. It was as if their pain was being washed away with whatever green light the goat boy radiated from his hands and realized that this boy was no devil. They realized that they didn't mind not knowing what he was or how the rest of their life would be like.

All that mattered at moment was that they felt safe.

"Hey... I forgot to ask, what's your name?" He smiled gently at them.

They had no use for their old name they decided at that moment that boy smiled at them and "C..ch-ar..a" they croaked out.

"Nice to meet you Chara, I'm Asriel"

Chapter 3: Azara's letter

Notes:

Bet you didn't believe you were gonna get another chapter this soon.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

This war had been going on for far to long. We've been fighting this war for more then a decade and we're getting backed closer and closer into a corner by the humans each day. Our soldiers are tired and wounded, the healers are trying their best but there is only so much they can do.

Everyone is tired.

Of fighting a war we know we can't win. Out there people are losing Hope.

Our people are Falling.

I've seen friends succumb to this illness, the war has been going on for to long with no good ending for us in sight. They've lost their will to fight and hope for a peaceful end.

There is no chance of us winning. The humans showed us so.

How many casualties have we sustained because of them? How many of our people have we lost? Race killed out? Gone extinct? Before and during the war?

And yet how many have we caused them?

Not enough.

We are losing hundreds a day while they barely lose a dozen.

We as monster's already knew humans were more stronger. More powerful then us monster's but we had never seen humans as powerful as the ones on the battle fields. Crazed with murderous power hungry blood lust.

Those humans will laugh as they slaughter a mother and their child. They run straight into the the battle fields wielding their swords as swinging them around with glee on their faces as if this war was just a game.

A game to play with the lives of our people.

I've seen how those humans act. They won't just let us go without huge losses. No. They will want to exterminate us.

They've got a taste of that power that comes with harming another. And now they won't stop at anything to get more.

So I write this letter to you both my heavenly King and Queen to retreat and take as many of our troops and people and find safety.

And to inform you I will no longer sit idle watching out people die. I sitting out of this war may be important to our traditional way of life.

But to that I say, what use is tradition if there is no one left to continue it.

I will be soon be joining the big battle on the front lines.

With me now In the field, the tide will soon change.

Let me be that glimmering flame in all that darkness. Let me be their hope.

And I promise you I will make those humans pay.

- Your Royal Justice, Azara

---

Putting the feather down, Azara took in a shaky breath trying to calm herself down. It's official she's joining the war on the front lines. There is no backing out now. No. She will not back out.

She needs to do this. She will not sit back any longer as her people are being slaughtered like poultry.

Before the war she had no dislike or disgust for humans. Never seen them all as cruel, wicked evil beings.

But the war has made her see how wrong she was. They were all just-

Wait no..

No... not all humans were bad. Some were good. (Some could be good).

They could be Kind, Funny... Loving...

.

.

.

Like... Eleanor.

Oh... She could never bring herself to hate them all.

how she could never bring herself to hate Elenor.

Her sweet smiles... laugher...

The color of her long brown hair as is flowed in the wind. Them dancing in the meadows. Her eagerness to spend time together.

Back then when...

Back to before her father sent her away...

Azara took in another breath. She had to remind herself, that was in the past. She could not say the same about all humans now.

They were at war.

And now-!

She could not, can not believe the audacity of the humans.

Gone was her once collective aura of patience and solem as her face contorted Into a snarl showing her sharp teeth.

First they declared war on monster kind and now they believe they have the right to decide which races live or die. They take hostages and enslave their own kind. Declaring themselves better then the person next to them just because of 'status' as if they are any better.

Her claws dug into the table and wings twitched.

Oh don't get her started on their little crusades. Its not like she can't forget their most recent one in Egypt. Slaughtering and leaving a trail of blood in the name of their God. 'God wills it!' They say. What kind of God wills people to slaughter and murder innocent people just for having different beliefs or believing in a different god.

She wrote this letter to the monarches residing at the east set settlement. Not much further away where the war was being fought. She is warning the king and queen but this letter could not express how much fear and anger she holds.

She lossened her grip on the table. A few new dents were added to it where it splintered off.

By the time they received the letter she will be already fighting on the front lines. Hopefully they will understand her decision.

Azara was someone who took pride in her sense of moral. It was literally her duty as a royal justice. But as a dragon she also couldn't help but let her emotions such as anger and rage take control.

Azara was the 7th re manifested royal justice. And she would be bothered if she didn't listen to both her justice and dragon instincts when joining the war.

With a determined look in her eyes, she understood she must show bravery in the battle field and hold her kindness closer to her heart for both races when judging them to serve proper Justice. While also Keeping her perseverance and patience to hold onto her integrity if she wanted to get through this war.

She was The Royal Justice. But in her utter most heart she was Monster-kinds protecter.

And she would fight for them first.

Notes:

Hi! Thank you for reading! So i have some details about Azara here. I do have some are of her but I still don't know how to put images in mobile here. So ya'll will have to do with a description for now sorry!

Azara is European dragon if you didn't get that from the crusades bit. She is pretty young still compared to previous Royal Justice's and has a firey personality just a red as her scales.

She will be mentioned a bit in the story along with the other judges which you will hopefully get to know about as the story progresses.
