Summary:
"So I wanted to make an angsty sort of quirkswap between Midoriya and Todoroki
Their quirks were switched and Midoriya doesn’t have a grasp on Todoroki’s quirk, and shit hits the fan real quick.
He immediately starts to burn and freeze both sides of his body without a way to stop at the moment.
This was really fun to do because it was a personal challenge to myself to incorporate brushes I don’t normally use, create believable fire and ice (the ice especially), and creating burns in cloth, which I’ve never really delved deeply into before"

When I write characters falling and being love, I write them like best friends, but also like souls being connected together, with a special attention paid to a physical/emotional need. The best way I could describe it would be like a deep warmth in just being with each other. There's a feeling in just holding each other, tightly, and the intimacy is just holding that person close, in a way that they'd stay that way forever if they could. Just a love of that person's simple existence, and a love that lets that person be their own agent, and they experience existence seperate and connectedly together.
In short, I really need Midoriya and Todoroki to hug.

Technical Breakdown:
Page 1: I was really ambitious with this project. I couldn’t get Mr. Brightside out of my head, and then I had the thought to make some Baku-angst with it!
Page 2: So, I tried a lot of different effects in this project. Overlays and lighting, as well as saturation and glow. The first page had a grunge overlay to help with the confliction feeling I was go for in it, and this one has this overlay, I tried to make it have that “old film” look in contrast to high saturation.
Page 3: I used a paint drip/grunge overlay on this one, and used the lighting effects to make a “steamy” 80′s/90′s Miami/New Wave aesthetic. The background goes along with that, as well as giving off the vibe of a heartbeat. I’ve never tried such a bold attempt at (implied) nsfw before, so I’m a little embarrassed lol
Page 4: Strong saturation and color dynamic to show the culmination of his thoughts.
Page 5: The lighting calms down, and takes on a warm, more subtle tone. There are closer shots of his face, and his eyes, and the mask is also dropped. Whereas the colors were chaotic and saturated before to portray his spiral into despair, here we’re brought back into reality. Nothing is over, there’s still a future ahead.
Story Breakdown:
Page 1: I know Mr. Brightside is a song about infidelity and cheating, but that’s not quite the story here. In this story, Bakugo liked Midoriya, but never said anything, so Midoriya was free to fall in love elsewhere, aka Todoroki. Bakugo saw them kiss one day and hasn’t been able to get the image out of his head. It’s driving him crazy! He keeps trying to play it cool, even though he’s in so much turmoil.
Page 2: All he can think about is how they’re together and they’re free to be close and intimate. He’s tearing himself apart with all this overthinking. His despair is isolating.
Page 3: Bakugo’s imagination is running wild at this point. He stuck between remembering Midoriya from the past and the Midoriya in his head. When they were young, Midoriya adored him, and as they got a little older, Midoriya developed a crush on him, but it was clear that their frayed relationship was such a conflict. Eventually, Midoriya, though timid and steadily becoming more confident, had found a new crush. This crush eventually developed into a relationship that Bakugo feels left him behind. This disonance in his head, in his picture of his childhood friend leaves him feeling out of control.
Page 4: He’s frustrated. Why does he keep thinking about this? He shouldn’t! Damn it. He’s got to get through this!
Page 5: Bakugo can’t sulk forever, so he looks ahead. And having a friend (or a little more), by his side couldn’t hurt.
I know I explained a lot of this comic from its meaning to a lot of the symbolism, but! I haven’t revealed all! If you can go back and see what other symbolism and little secrets I’ve peppered here and there are, I’d be absolutely delighted!

"Fun Fact about Catrina makeup, the colors used actually have specific meanings!
Red: Blood and Life, Yellow: Death, Purple: Pain/Mourning/Grief, White: Purity/Spirituality/Hope,Pink: Celebration, and Orange: The Sun (representing the color of the marigold flower used on Dia de Muertos to guide Spirits to the graves and ofrendas to be with their families).
Shigg’s main colors here are Red, Yellow, and Purple. I also made his with some Azteca features.
