“Where do you want to hang the pictures?” he asked, rummaging through the toolbox in search of the right nails - he found them when one pricked the tip of his finger, making him wince. “The map is huge, so we should probably hang it above your bed, right? There’s a lot of empty space here. And the picture… I dunno, maybe above the desk?” He stood up and put the picture up to the wall. “Right here? Maybe? What do you think?” he asked, looking over at Kabru. “It’s up to you. It’s your room, after all,” he added emphatically.
Kabru laughed, nodding lightly. “Actually, that’s exactly what I had in mind! Perfect! You have an eye for interior design,” he added fondly, sending him a wink. Laios flushed lightly, unconvinced, and put the picture down on the desk to pick up the nail and hammer instead. With the hammer in his right hand, he tried to keep the left one steady as he put the nail against the wall. He closed one eye and squinted the other and stuck out his tongue which, for some reason, always seemed to help him focus. Finally he wound up and took aim at the nail. Bang-bang-bang-bang-bang.

Kabru watched, mesmerised, as Laios and Falin brought out the desserts and spread them around the table. A large platter with different kinds of cake was placed down in the very centre of the table. Falin put a dessert plate in front of every seat, along with a fork and a spoon while Laios put down colourful bowls filled with different kinds of candy. Marcille and Falin had made way too many gingerbread cookies, kept in half a dozen plastic containers. A box of chocolates with a big red bow around it, also brought by Marcille, was opened and its contents thoroughly examined by the Toudens for the sake of matching the different chocolates to the provided list of flavours. Kabru looked around with a mixture of awe and fear. He was fairly certain that he would promptly get sick if he put a single piece of cake in his mouth, but it was still a feast for the eyes, at the very least.

Laios put a plate in front of every seat, and an extra one, seemingly not assigned to a seat. Kabru looked at him quizzically. Laios scratched the back of his head. “It's a custom where I'm from... You put down an extra plate in case somebody comes over unannounced and asks for a meal. I mean, I've never had that happen... Honestly, I'm not sure if it's ever happened to anybody before, but I always put it down just in case. You never know, right?” he mused, sending Kabru a glance.
“That is a beautiful custom.” Kabru said sincerely, thinking that this year, he was the person who came unannounced and took up an extra seat at the table, but he chose not to say so out loud. His heart squeezed in his chest. “You never know, indeed,” he added under his breath, and promptly turned towards the front door, alarmed by a series of loud thuds. What perfect timing! Kabru amused himself with guessing who the mysterious visitor could be. A ghost perhaps, of Christmas past, present, or future? Or Santa Claus? As far as Kabru was aware, that was not the way he was supposed to arrive, but since the apartment didn't have a chimney, one had to improvise...

They live in sheltered cities, far away from any actual dungeons, and the closest they’ve come to seeing an actual monster is in an Elven-made VR game. Kabru leaned closer and rested his cheek against Laios' shoulder, looking at his profile with a gentle smile on his face. His hand patted his thigh approvingly, and then moved up his side and towards his chest before finally settling on his belly. Laios closed his eyes and let out a sigh, feeling himself relax into Kabru's touch. “Good boy,” Kabru murmured softly, his lips pressed to the side of Laios' neck as he stroked his stomach, just above the waistband of the jockstrap. “You're doing so well.” Laios wagged his tail in response. Kabru kissed Laios' temple, cheek and shoulder before sitting up straight again. His hand continued to wander around Laios' lower body, careful to avoid touching the plug. Finally he withdrew his hand to take a note in his notepad. “Let's see you push it out.”

Summary
Come to think of it, when did he first have the thought of wanting to see Kabru naked? It must have been sometime before he actually did, that time in class. His reaction wouldn't have been so strong otherwise, right? Until that moment though, he buried that thought deep in his mind, along with all the other things he'd bottled up over the years. He figured that if it wasn't appropriate to say, it probably wasn't worth thinking about, either. Sure, his thoughts wouldn't hurt Kabru as long as they stayed in his head, but... it felt like that would be taking advantage of Kabru's kindness, of his willingness to spend time with him and talk to him and let him look at him. Obviously in hindsight, knowing that Kabru was trying to catch his attention and get close to him on purpose, that whole thing sounded ridiculous. It wasn't as if he knew any better back then, though.

They spent the next few minutes wandering aimlessly around the place, narrowly avoiding collisions with other prospective Christmas tree buyers. Kabru happily let himself be dragged around, delighted at the opportunity to publicly hold hands with his boyfriend. Laios was single-mindedly fixated on his hunt, walking on stiff legs, slightly hunched over, his gaze shifting around, his nostrils flared. He would occasionally stop and examine a specific tree, stroking his chin, knitting his eyebrows, and pursuing his lips, giving it serious consideration, before eventually moving on to the next one without a word. Kabru would closely study his expression in hopes of figuring out what affected his verdict . Finally, during one of his stops, after a moment of silence, Laios turned to him with a serious expression and asked what he thought about the tree. In truth, it looked just the same as all the ones before it, but Kabru, eager to affirm Laios’ choice, expressed enthusiastic approval anyway.
