Since defeating Vecna, Eddie Munson and Steve Harrington have taken up smoking weed together. They've formed a pretty solid friendship at this point, so of course when Steve wants to try acid, he asks Eddie to be his tripsitter, and of course Eddie says yes.
Turns out, tripping kills any filter Steve had before, and the line they've been walking for months between being friends who "fake flirt" and friends who want to be something more gets a bit blurry. -

The hospital, like the city, is larger than anticipated. Steve had traveled to about every corner of the US by the age of thirteen, tried every fine wine over the price of several thousands by sixteen, followed his parents from the edge of Cancún to the center of Denmark in the summer by eighteen. And yet- he found himself staring openly at the building before him, feet planted firmly in the middle of the parking lot as if he’d never seen something so utterly huge, so daunting.
Twenty five stories, curved wide around him into what he could only describe as half an arena, towering, waiting for him to dare to come and fight for what was rightfully his- something he had never asked for in the first place. His life.
There’s cars coming and going- patients, families, doctors and nurses going home and some just starting their days paying no mind to him at all. Flowing around him like an everyday obstacle, like it was no surprise for some sick kid to be gazing upward in what might be awe, what might just be fear.

Summary
Dustin’s shoulders shuddered, and he whimpered out Eddie’s name again. He rushed forward, and Eddie didn’t have time to brace himself before he was almost tackled into the wall. The rain-soaked teen wrapped his arms so tightly around his friend’s ribs that he let out a grunt of pain - the tight scars there were still tender, and probably always would be. But Eddie didn’t complain. He bit his tongue and closed his eyes, squeezing the boy back. Dustin didn’t have to tell him why he was here anymore.
It had only been a summer since. . . well, since Eddie died. And Dustin had held him as it happened. Despite the blood loss and the pain, Eddie remembered it all vividly. Dustin wasn’t the only one who had nightmares.
“It’s okay,” Eddie said, in the steadiest voice he could. “I’m here, Henderson. I’m still here. I know. It’s craaa-zy!”

The thing was that Steve didn’t like Eddie. At least, not as far as Eddie could tell. He’d said something to Robin about it who brushed him off.

He catches Max’s shoulders square, and Christ does this kid remind him of when Eddie came round in the beginning. Closed off, self defensive, looking like she’s carrying the whole world on those small shoulders.

“What? No.” Steve threw his hand out, leaning across and almost off the couch, to grab Eddie’s wrist. “You’re staying here."... “You can’t leave.”
“Why. Not.” He ground out at the other man, his patience waning.
“Because I don’t know if I can trust you.”He felt like he should be more upset with the situation that had unfolded. If he was honest, it was absolute bullshit that Steve was trapping him in his house, but it wasn’t like he had anything better to do. He’d been wasting away in his trailer for a week now, and in classic magic eight ball reasoning, his future looked uncertain. Maybe this would be good for him? Some good old social interaction, even if it was with someone he had rather little in common with.

Eddie couldn’t remember much. At least not from before he was like… eight or so. It was all mostly shadows. Small wisps of movement and feelings that slipped through his fingers every time he tried to grasp them.
He remembered a red sky, lightning and an unnatural humanoid shape, some kind of terrible imitation of man. But he convinced himself long ago that he’d made those things up.
