Staring at his poorly wrapped hands his thoughts inevitably wandered off to the annoying fucking bastard he should definitely not be thinking of right now, but the phantom feeling of the too familiar warm body pressed against him, cold limbs wrapped around his own was comforting until it was not; the harrowing thought of how easy it was for Dazai to find his place back at Chuuya’s side, even after so many years of absence, was concerning and comforting at the same time.

Leaving the mafia had been Osamu Dazai’s number one priority—after his best friend died telling to do so, and of course, he defects only a few days after that. Dazai’s almost proud of himself, until he gets trapped in a cruel twist of fate: taking care of a baby and being on the run from the mafia. “I didn’t need to be saved, asshole, I could’ve gotten myself out of the trap, and they would’ve been dead for what they did. They—”
“Enough,” Dazai interrupted. The ears atop Chuuya’s head twitched again. Despite how difficult he was being—always stubborn to the very end—Dazai smiled. Even if it killed him, Chuuya would fight until he drew his last breath. He admired that about Chuuya, throwing all sense of self-preservation out the window even when at his most vulnerable. “I see the poison didn’t weaken you as much as I thought it did. You were out for a while, but I thought you would’ve been out longer.”
Dazai frees Chuuya from a trap before special ability hunters come to claim their prize, but now he has a poisoned, angry Chuuya thrashing against him in the car, ears and tail out in a malformed transformation due to his weakened state.

The word was hard to get out as his jaw was shaky and tense now, making it hard to continue.
A hand shot up to cover his eyes. His brow line was aching.

“You’re awake,” Chuuya said, stopping at Dazai’s bedside. A small, strained smile began to play on his lips, but he looked like he was trying not to grit his teeth. “It’s been a bit. They said your coma could’ve lasted a long time, maybe months or more, considering what happened. But they also said it helps for the person unconscious to hear someone talking to them because it might wake them up sooner.”
“Awake?” Dazai echoed, his eyes darting from Chuuya’s face to the faraway wall, taking in everything again. This was a hospital. He was being kept alive. How did he survive? “That’s impossible, I had everything calculated down to the moment. From the height I fell from, I shouldn’t have survived.” His voice rose in a panic and a finger came upon his lips, gently shushing him.
“Not so loud. The walls are thinner than you think.” Chuuya leaned over to get a good look at Dazai’s face, his smile widening. It was unsettling, like he was peering into Dazai’s soul. Something was wrong. “You’re right, Dazai. You’re supposed to be dead to everyone who knows what happened. That’s why you can’t be loud.”
Beast Dazai survives his fall, but his actions still have their consequences.
