In the original timeline, Fyodor writes Dazai to join the Decay of Angels instead of the Armed Detective Agency via The Book.
It's a large change for the resulting timeline, but nothing detrimental seems to occur. Atsushi still joins the ADA, Akutagawa is still the Port Mafia's mad dog, and Odasaku is still a vacant figure. Everything stays the same. Key moments still transpire. It was as if the man had never existed at all; everyone had forgotten about him. That's how it was written to be: a face torn from the pages.

He shudders.
Holding the watch in a closed fist, he transforms his claw and hears the glass shatter. He doesn’t look as he lets the watch drop to his mattress, immediately getting out of bed with the empty box to leave in Mori’s infirmary.

Atsushi and Akutagawa are sent on a mission together where Atsushi starts to learn more about his “rival” Akutagawa’s past relationship with his mentor Dazai. After discovering Dazai’s dark past Atsushi can no longer bear to look at him the same and decides to console Akutagawa with it. However something mutual blooms in them as they discover they’re not that different after all.

Takes place after the DOA arc.
It is a regular day at the ADA office. Dazai is slacking off again. Kunikida is yelling at everyone to follow the schedule and finish the papers on time. Ranpo is snacking on his favourite candies and showing off to Kyouka. Atsushi is watching all of this happen from his desk. A nervous smile on his face, as Dazai begs him for help from Kunikidas voilent book attack.
" Dazai-san, Kunikida-san, a visitor is here", announced Junichirou, throwing a worried glance toward Atsushi. Ranpo stopped eating his candy and opened his eyes. " Thank you for letting us know, who is it?" asked Kunikida fixing his glasses.
" It is the new headmaster of Atsushi's orphanage"

Atsushi Nakajima is alone in a brutal world full of people infected with some form of a "hysteria" virus causing an apocalypse, and the military is not to be trusted. Why? They're using the citizens to find a cure rather than protecting them. Of course he's going to have the worst luck and come across both many times. What happens when he's taken to the facility of the military after being caught by an eccentric officer? He would rather not find out..but here he is.

Dazai is disappointed, and in his response, he decides to 'teach him a lesson'. But before he can continue, Chuuya just so happens to walk in on their 'practice'. Even as a mafioso…the ginger is astonished and utterly disgusted at what Dazai's been putting him through because it reminds him of a certain someone…So, he decides he's not going to let this continue any longer.
And unfortunately, Akutagawa can’t either.
