The day in Brooklyn was a soggy one. After Pearl Harbor, everything had changed. Civilians like Eula Mae Jones weren’t drafted, but felt the pull all the same. Once a seamstress, she now serves as an admin clerk at Fort Hamilton, processing men headed to war. Most days are routine until a voice cuts through the monotony. Smooth. Persistent.
Private Barnes. A charming Casanova at heart, he realizes he must slow his pace if he wants to earn the heart of the most mysterious woman he's ever met.
A slow-burn story of proper courtship with a Black American life in 1940s Brooklyn on (and off of) a military base.
The story begins as Eula Mae in 1942 and takes place before & during all events in Captain America: The First Avenger.Writer’s Note: Eula Mae is a black American. Light themes of racism and Black culture will be present in the context of America in the 40's. I understand this may be hard for some to self-insert and apologize for any discomfort. This is a slow burn, full of yearning and worth the wait.

Bucky, always found himself enamoured with the man, even if he told himself it was just because he was his best friend. He knew it was wrong, especially considering the time, but who wouldn't find him even slightly attractive? His personality, even before the serum, was something to admire, awkward? yes, but definitely brave and selfless, you couldn't drive him away from doing something for the life of you and maybe that's why he is where he is, now a super soldier that is the symbol of America and a saviour. Even if you told James he was staring he'd be convinced he wasn't, but he definitely was, his eyes always constantly gazing at Steve like he was a fine piece of art, and in his eyes, he was.
Right now, the both of them are just sat talking, occasionally catching each others eyes or their hands landing on the others shoulder or hand after laughing at a joke, but nothing out of the ordinary- Apart from the fact Bucky caught himself trying to flirt but nothing hit, and he also thought it was ridiculous to do.. Steve is straight, and so is he.. Right?
Stucky get drinks and eventually make out in a bathroom stall.
