“I’m fine,” Juno protests, even as he’s bullied onto a cot pulled out from the wall. “I’ve had worse, why does nobody believe me?”
“Oh, we believe you.” Nureyev rests a long-fingered hand on Juno’s shoulder, and even though he’s what Rita would call grumpy and he would call reasonable, Juno lets himself lean into the touch. “In fact, that is why we refuse to take your diagnosis of ‘fine’”—complete with air quotes— “as the end-all-be-all.”
Juno groans, only partly because Vespa poked him in the side where he knows bruises are already starting to form. “Those guys only kicked me in the stomach a handful of times. It’ll take a lot more than that to keep me- ow!”

Juno's a fool. No, literally, he is the Fool. It was him and Benten against Mars. Him and Sasha against the big mean world. But Ben died, Sasha put on a mask to run away, and Juno stayed a fool. He saved Mars from total annihilation, lost his eye, played a pawn for the Devil, left Mars, built a family, lost his family, and now (right now) he’s trying to save them. There’s a big mean galaxy out there and Director W stands between it and Juno and his family.

Juno Steel isn't some damsel in distress or a princess locked in a tower. He's a goddamn medical marvel, and he's spent over two-thirds of his life in a Dark Matters facility by choice... mostly. Peter Nureyev is reasonably sure he can trust the other members of the Aurinko Crime Family, just as sure as he is that regardless of potential consequences he already does. He trusts he knows them well enough not to turn him in to the nearest government or shady agency if they were to know his past. But trusting someone in theory is different than putting that to the test — and actually saying the words is even more difficult than that.
It doesn’t really help that Peter still struggles to come to terms with his past, and that after all this time figuring out who he is is not as easy as he would have liked.

Nureyev was trying very hard to file away what was happening behind him as he was picking a lock. It was hard as the people behind him were yelling at each other.
“Steel, if you don't shut your trap I am going to tape your mouth shut. Thief, how much longer until you have that safe open?” Vespa growled causing Nureyev to slip. He sighed as he put his tools down and rubbed his hands on his legs, leaving behind rust-colored streaks on the fabric.
