Gale lost everything when the Netherbrain was defeated...he lost Astarion to his own ambition and lust for power...He lost the Crown to his hesitance and blind faith in Mystra...He lost his freedom when he agreed to be Astarion's spawn...and then when he accepted Mystra's deal to free him from his Master in return for the crown...he lost his ability to go back to his old life. Because Mystra is cruel. Mystra doesn't forgive. She broke Astarion's chain on him and gave him the ability to walk in the light...but she punished him by keeping him a spawn...an slave to sanguine hunger. And she left the orb inside him...stopping its ability to explode...but leaving its hunger for Gale to suffer. Alone, ashamed, and afraid...Gale makes many decisions that lead him to working at the Sharess Caress as a magic-themed prostitute. He's accepted his way of life over the years...but then a familiar face reappears and once again throws his somewhat peaceful life into disarray.

Astarion’s hand rests lightly on your shoulder—a silent, steadying presence—and you relax. Hamlaith hesitates, unsure where to set the tray until you pat the platform beside you. Smiling softly, you direct, “Right here is fine, Hamlaith."
Astarion leans low, catching the footman’s eye with a wolfish grin. “Thank you, Hamlaith.” A flush sweeps over the servant’s face.

An alternate ending to my previous work "Broken Together", about what would have happened if things had played out a bit differently and Astarion had ascended. This should still be coherent if you haven't read the original work, as long as you're familiar with the game. No feel goods here though, just angst, trauma, gaslighting, and more angst. If you want fluff, read the original.
