And as much as Soundwave would like to think otherwise, Metroplex didn't leave enough of Megatron to rebuild from.

Try as he might, however, he can’t tell where the Nothing starts and ends. His mind—its melded itself to the walls of this lonesome state of nonbeing, making it difficult to think, to wake up. At least, he thinks—no, he’s pretty certain this isn’t how things used to be. It wouldn’t be nagging at him so badly if so, he thinks.

"He’d FINALLY convinced Optimus to let him start scouting on his own and this is how he proves himself? Bumblebee rolled for cover beneath a particularly tall rock as one of the two seekers drove a steady line of bullets into the ground. He pressed his servos over his audial horns, doing little to shield him from the droning sound of blaster fire overhead.
Bumblebee’s spark rattled within his chassis. He could still hear the static of his comm active just behind his audials. It’d be oh so easy to call Prime to save him, like Optimus always had. But it was his first solo scouting mission. He’d just gone a little too far, been a little too eager. If he had to get dragged out of this mess Bumblebee knew Optimus would have him stuck in his habsuite until he rusted over. It was just two seekers. He could handle this, Bee assured himself."
Summary: Bumblebee's first solo scouting mission goes sideways, but the eager youngling is too worried to call for the help of his caretakers. That's when he receives the timely help of a new friend... one with a strange history with the Autobots.

He placed himself before others, and for that, Metroplex found that he didn’t want to listen to his call, should it ever happen. But he would — people’s lives depended on it. No matter how much he detested Zeta’s ways, Metroplex would come to stand beside him.
But Zeta never called.
He never called, even as his spark guttered, returning to the Allspark where Metroplex cannot reach. He’s wondered many times whether Zeta ever felt him, asking to be used like the weapon he is. Whether or not Zeta ever heard his own calls.
This Prime, however… they feel loving. Stricken with grief and in need of saving, believing in something he can’t see, calling out for one last hope. His one last chance to beat the odds — not for himself, but the people he mourns.
