They never covered the small pool that Peridot had created.
Lapis had brought it up once, but nothing ever came of it. Besides, it was convenient for when she needed to use her powers, though she completely avoided it aside from that. She tried to avoid water as much as possible, which was ironic given that hydrokinesis was her power. It just reminded her too much of her time fused with Jasper, so she avoided it.
This bothered Peridot. Not out of any selfish reason, of course. Sure, it was sort of disappointing that Lapis never utilized the gift she made unless it was an emergency situation, but that hadn't even been the saddest or most frustrating part of that whole debacle. No, Peridot was bothered because she wanted Lapis to be able to be at peace with it. It was an integral part of her existence as a Lapis Lazuli, and she was afraid of it.
So, Peridot decided she wanted to try to help.
