Summary
Spock studied McCoy. Despite his worn and weathered look there was an air of quiet vitality about him. He possessed a spark that couldn’t be smothered even in the most dire circumstances. A grudging feeling of strange admiration filled him. An unfortunate side-effect of his current, emotional state.
The doctor’s mouth worked silently as he continuously pushed his lower lip out into a pout and then pulled it back into a slight grimace. He was intently focused on the conversation unfolding in front of them. When he flashed Spock a curious glance he realized he’d been staring at McCoy for the better part of a minute.
The doctor raised an eyebrow. “Something on my face, Mister Spock?”
He looked away. From the corner of his eye, he saw McCoy’s mouth quirk subtly, his expression one of mild amusement. He resolutely fixed his attention on the captain. Kirk was mid-sentence. Sweat beaded his brow. His hands negotiated the air, silently interceding on Spock’s behalf and emphasizing each point in the argument he made.Or, Kirk gets a pair of pointy ears, Spock runs amok, and McCoy meets Spock’s mother, his grandmother, and his ex!

Summary
"My understanding of the subject is limited, but I would venture a guess that the good doctor is currently struggling with the primitive human emotion known as jealousy."
McCoy had been over his little academy crush on Jim Kirk for years. Or so he thought, until learning about Kirk's creative solution to Spock's "Vulcan biology" problem brought up some long-dormant feelings toward his handsome and charming captain. Now he can't stop asking himself if there's any way he might still have a chance.

Summary
Spock intoned from behind Kirk, switching quickly from giddy to formal. McCoy hadn’t stopped scanning with the whirring diagnostic tool, which Spock eyed with suspicion. “As I told James earlier–”
McCoy turned his head to Kirk and mouthed, James? Kirk dismissed the comment with a small wave of his hand.
“–the u’thet sadalau involves friends and brothers, sharing a drink and toasting new beginnings or fresh losses.”
McCoy blinked slowly. “You called me up here for a breakup party.”

A reflection on the events of Amok Time. The idiots are gay idiots in love. They’re both oblivious.

“You are aware,” she added after a moment, “that you stare.”
Spock blinked. “I do not—”
“You do,” she said, gently enough. “You always have.”
There was a long pause. Then: “You are not attempting to provoke me.”
“No,” she replied, “I am merely attempting to determine if you are aware that, of all the errors you are capable of making, this one appears to repeat.”
