Danny hummed to himself, the saccharine melody a stark contrast to the grimy brick walls of the Gotham alley. The sour tang of garbage and ozone from his own fried core warred along with the thick, metallic scent of blood filled the air. His hands slick with something he refused to identify.
"You look like shit, man." The voice from the helmet was mechanically distorted, but the dry tone was clear. The man’s head tilted. "Can you tell me why you are trying to dress up as a trash can?"
Danny blinked slowly, the adrenaline high finally, blessedly, beginning to ebb. The pain was becoming a distant, roaring thing. Peaceful, almost.
He met the blank gaze of the helmet, his own eyes wide and unnervingly calm. "My organs fell out…" he stated, his voice disturbingly even. He gestured weakly with a crimson-coated hand toward the ruin of his midsection. "Don't have skin anymore."

“No, that isn’t-” Bruce starts, stops himself.

I’m not important. What I thought is Not. Important. We’re here now. Focus. Save your fucking son.
“Jay, please, just tell me how to get it off. Please,” he begs as unshed tears start to blur his vision.
Please, please. Please let me fix this.
When Jason doesn’t respond, Bruce breaks and the tears finally fall.
I can’t do this again. I can’t lose him again. Not like this. Not ever. Please, please.

If Damian comes back to the League of Shadows, if he obeys and does his duty as heir, if he kills enough people, if he becomes more and more of who his Grandfather wants him to be, then maybe, just maybe, his brother can return to him. And once he does... well, kidnapping the rest of his family with Dick to give them the life they deserve is just a perfectly reasonable consequence.
